This study investigated biceps brachii oxygenation and myoelectrical activity during and following maximal eccentric exercise to better understand the repeated-bout effect. Ten men performed two bouts of eccentric exercise (ECC1, ECC2), consisting of 10 sets of 6 maximal lengthening contractions of the elbow flexors separated by 4 wk. Tissue oxygenation index minimum amplitude (TOI(min)), mean and maximum total hemoglobin volume by near-infrared spectroscopy, torque, and surface electromyography root mean square (EMG(RMS)) during exercise were compared between ECC1 and ECC2. Changes in maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) torque, range of motion, plasma creatine kinase activity, muscle soreness, TOI(min), and EMG(RMS) during sustained (10-s) and 30-repeated isometric contraction tasks at 30% (same absolute force) and 100% MVC (same relative force) for 4 days postexercise were compared between ECC1 and ECC2. No significant differences between ECC1 and ECC2 were evident for changes in torque, TOI(min), mean total hemoglobin volume, maximum total hemoglobin volume, and EMG(RMS) during exercise. Smaller (P < 0.05) changes and faster recovery of muscle damage markers were evident following ECC2 than ECC1. During 30% MVC tasks, TOI(min) did not change, but EMG(RMS) increased 1-4 days following ECC1 and ECC2. During 100% MVC tasks, EMG(RMS) did not change, but torque and TOI(min) decreased 1-4 days following ECC1 and ECC2. TOI(min) during 100% MVC tasks and EMG(RMS) during 30% MVC tasks recovered faster (P < 0.05) following ECC2 than ECC1. We conclude that the repeated-bout effect cannot be explained by altered muscle activation or metabolic/hemodynamic changes, and the faster recovery in muscle oxygenation and activation was mainly due to faster recovery of force.  相似文献

This study investigated whether the second eccentric exercise performed 3 days after the initial bout would exacerbate muscle damage and retard the recovery. Fifty-one athletes performed 30 eccentric actions of the elbow flexors using a dumbbell weighted 100% of the maximal isometric force (MIF) at the elbow joint angle of 90 degrees (ECC1). Three days after ECC1, all subjects except those in the control group (n = 12) performed the second bout (ECC2) with the same (100%) intensity (n = 12), 90% (n = 13), or 80% (n = 14) of the ECC1. Some subjects, especially in the 100% group, required spotting for ECC2 but made maximal effort to complete the exercise. MIF, range of motion, upper-arm circumference, muscle soreness, muscle proteins in the blood, and ultrasound images were used to assess muscle damage. Changes in these measures for 9 days following ECC1 were compared among groups by 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measures. All criterion measures changed significantly after ECC1; however, no significant differences between the groups were evident for any of the changes in the measures. These results suggest that it is possible for athletes to complete the second bout if the intensity is reduced 10-20% from the initial bout. No significant differences between the control group and other groups indicate that the second eccentric exercise performed 3 days after the initial bout does not exacerbate muscle damage and retard the recovery regardless of the intensity of the second bout. It is concluded that the elbow flexors can perform high-intensity eccentric exercise in the early stage of recovery from the initial bout and are not damaged further by performing a subsequent bout 3 days after the first.  相似文献

Five men performed submaximal isometric, concentric or eccentric contractions until exhaustion with the left arm elbow flexors at respectively 50%, 40% and 40% of the prefatigued maximal voluntary contraction force (MVC). Subsequently, and at regular intervals, the surface electromyogram (EMG) during 30-s isometric test contractions at 40% of the prefatigued MVC and the muscle performance parameters (MVC and the endurance time of an isometric endurance test at 40% prefatigued MVC) were recorded. Large differences in the surface EMG response were found after isometric or concentric exercise on the one hand and eccentric exercise on the other. Eccentric exercise evoked in two of the three EMG parameters [the EMG amplitude (root mean square) and the rate of shift of the EMG mean power frequency (MPF)] the greatest (P less than 0.001) and longest lasting (up to 7 days) response. The EMG response after isometric or concentric exercise was smaller and of shorter duration (1-2 days). The third EMG parameter, the initial MPF, had already returned to its prefatigued value at the time of the first measurement, 0.75 h after exercise. The responses of EMG amplitude and of rate of MPF shift were similar to the responses observed in the muscle performance parameters (MVC and the endurance time). Complaints of muscle soreness were most frequent and severe after the eccentric contractions. Thus, eccentric exercise evoked the greatest and longest lasting response both in the surface EMG signal and in the muscle performance parameters.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the early-phase muscular performance adaptations to 5 weeks of traditional (TRAD) and eccentric-enhanced (ECC+) progressive resistance training and to compare the acute postexercise total testosterone (TT), bioavailable testosterone (BT), growth hormone (GH), and lactate responses in TRAD- and ECC+-trained individuals. Twenty-two previously untrained men (22.1 +/- 0.8 years) completed 1 familiarization and 2 baseline bouts, 15 exercise bouts (i.e., 3 times per week for 5 weeks), and 2 postintervention testing bouts. Anthropometric and 1 repetition maximum (1RM) measurements (i.e., bench press and squat) were assessed during both baseline and postintervention testing. Following baseline testing, participants were randomized into TRAD (4 sets of 6 repetitions at 52.5% 1RM) or ECC+ (3 sets of 6 repetitions at 40% 1RM concentric and 100% 1RM eccentric) groups and completed the 5-week progressive resistance training protocols. During the final exercise bout, blood samples acquired at rest and following exercise were assessed for serum TT, BT, GH, and blood lactate. Both groups experienced similar increases in bench press (approximately 10%) and squat (approximately 22%) strength during the exercise intervention. At the conclusion of training, postexercise TT and BT concentrations increased (approximately 13% and 21%, respectively, p < 0.05) and GH concentrations increased (approximately 750-1200%, p < 0.05) acutely following exercise in both protocols. Postexercise lactate accumulation was similar between the TRAD (5.4 +/- 0.4) and ECC+ (5.6 +/- 0.4) groups; however, the ECC+ group's lactate concentrations were significantly lower than those of the TRAD group 30 to 60 minutes into recovery. In conclusion, TRAD training and ECC+ training appear to result in similar muscular strength adaptations and neuroendocrine responses, while postexercise lactate clearance is enhanced following ECC+ training.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of eccentric contractions (ECC) on the biceps (BB) and triceps brachii (TB) muscles during maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) of elbow flexors using electrical (EMG) and mechanomyographical activities (MMG). Each of 18 male students performed 25 submaximal contractions (50% MVC) of the elbow flexors. Root mean square amplitude (RMS) and median frequency (MDF) were calculated for the EMG and MMG signals recorded during MVC. All measurements were taken before, immediately after, 24, 48, 72, and 120 h post-ECC from the BB and TB muscles. MVC was reduced by 34% immediately after exercise and did not return to the resting value within 120 h (P0.05). The EMG MDF decreased significantly (P< or =0.05) in both muscles after ECC. The MMG RMS at 24h, 48, 72 and 120 h post-ECC was significantly lower compared to that recorded immediately after ECC in both muscles (P< or =0.05). The present research showed that (i) there were similar changes in electrical and mechanical activities during MVC after submaximal ECC in agonist and antagonist muscles suggesting a common drive controlling the agonist and antagonist motoneuron pool, (ii) the ECC induced different changes in EMG than in MMG immediately after ECC and during 120 h of recovery that suggested an increased tremor and contractile impairments, i.e., reduced rate of calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum (acute effect), and changes in motor control mechanisms of agonist and antagonist muscles, and increased muscle stiffness (chronic effect).  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to use paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to examine the effect of eccentric exercise on short-interval intracortical inhibition (SICI) after damage to elbow flexor muscles. Nine young (22.5 ± 0.6 yr; mean ± SD) male subjects performed maximal eccentric exercise of the elbow flexor muscles until maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) force was reduced by ~40%. TMS was performed before, 2 h after, and 2 days after exercise under Rest and Active (5% MVC) conditions with motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) recorded from the biceps brachii (BB) muscle. Peripheral electrical stimulation of the brachial plexus was used to assess maximal M-waves, and paired-pulse TMS with a 3-ms interstimulus interval was used to assess changes in SICI at each time point. The eccentric exercise resulted in a 34% decline in strength (P < 0.001), a 41% decline in resting M-wave (P = 0.01), changes in resting elbow joint angle (10°, P < 0.001), and a shift in the optimal elbow joint angle for force production (18°, P < 0.05) 2 h after exercise. This was accompanied by impaired muscle strength (27%, P < 0.001) and increased muscle soreness (P < 0.001) 2 days after exercise, which is indicative of muscle damage. When the test MEP amplitudes were matched between sessions, we found that SICI was reduced by 27% in resting and 23% in active BB muscle 2 h after exercise. SICI recovered 2 days after exercise when muscle pain and soreness were present, suggesting that delayed onset muscle soreness from eccentric exercise does not influence SICI. The change in SICI observed 2 h after exercise suggests that eccentric muscle damage has widespread effects throughout the motor system that likely includes changes in motor cortex.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in pressure pain sensitivity maps in untrained subjects over 2 subsequent sessions of eccentric exercise (ECC) expected to result in (a) delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and (b) adaptation/recovery, respectively. Eleven healthy male subjects participated in this study. Pressure pain threshold (PPT), rate of perceived exertion (RPE), pain intensity, soreness area drawing, maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), and shoulder range of motion were assessed in session 1 before, immediately after, and 24 hours after ECC. The ECC protocol that was used to induce DOMS consisted of 50 eccentric contractions of the right shoulder that were divided into 5 bouts, including 10 contractions at MVC level separated by a 2-minute resting period. Session 2 was identical to session 1 and performed exactly 1 week later. There was only a significant increase in the RPE assessed before the exercise and 24 hours after the exercise in session 1 (p = 0.001). The average PPT only decreased significantly from before the exercise (660.2 ± 76.2 kPa) to 24 hours after the exercise (435.6 ± 59.3 kPa) in session 1 (p = 0.016). The present study confirmed a heterogeneous distribution of mechanical sensitivity before and after sessions of ECC. The first session of ECC underlined increased mechanical sensitivity because of DOMS, whereas the second session reflected an adaptation process. Our results support the potential role of ECC bouts in training regimens.  相似文献

为探讨人体进行最大等速离心运动(ECC)诱发血液肌酸激酶(CK)水平变化、血清肌酸激酶水平与肌肉损伤(EIMD)的关系,本研究筛选出150名"缺乏运动"的健康大学生为受试者,进行血样采集,进行前测包括血清肌酸激酶(CK)、最大等长肌力(MVC)、肘关节活动角度(ROM)、上臂围(CIR)、肌肉感受(VAS)。受试者进行5组×12次最大等速离心运动,运动后恢复期,将全部受试者血清肌酸激酶值进行排序:血清肌酸激酶值最高和最低20%样本,高肌酸激酶水平组(HCK组)和低肌酸激酶水平组(low LCK组),利用SPSS18.0统计学软件,以方差分析和多元回归分析进行统计分析。本研究发现全部受试者、高肌酸激酶水平组、低肌酸激酶水平组在最大等速离心运动后各评估指标均显著高于比前测结果,p<0.05。全部受试者、高肌酸激酶水平组受试者在最大等速离心运动后各指标变化皆明显大于低肌酸激酶水平组受试者,p<0.05。受试者血清肌酸激酶峰值与最大等长肌力、肘关节活动角度、上臂围、肌肉感受最大变化值有相关,p<0.05。本研究认为肌肉损伤程度与肌酸激酶水平具有显著相关,尤其高血清肌酸激酶水平者肌酸激酶水平较大程度反映肌肉损伤程度趋势。本研究表明,肘关节活动角度、上臂围具有预测肌酸激酶峰值的效果。  相似文献

The effects of sustained and rhythmically performed isometric contractions on electrically evoked twitch and tetanic force generation of the triceps surae have been investigated in 4 healthy male subjects. The isometric contractions were performed separately and on different occasions at 30%, 60% and 100% of the force of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). The area under the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) force/time curve during the rhythmic and sustained contractions was the same for each experiment. The results showed that following rhythmic isometric exercise there was a small decrease in low (10 and 20 Hz) and high (40 Hz) frequency tetanic tension which was associated with % MVC. However, there was no change in the 20/40 ratio of tetanic forces, MVC or the contraction times and force of the maximal twitch. In contrast, following sustained isometric exercise tetanic forces were markedly reduced, particularly at low frequencies of stimulation. The 20/40 ratio decreased and the induced muscle weakness was greater at 30% than 60% or 100% MVC. The performance of sustained isometric contractions also effected a decrease in contraction time of the twitch and MVC. The results are in accord with previous findings for dynamic work (Davies and White 1982), and show that if isometric exercise is performed rhythmically the effect on tetanic tensions is small and there is no evidence of a preferential loss of electrically evoked force at either high or low frequencies of stimulation following the contractions. For sustained contractions, however, the opposite is true, the ratio of 20/40 Hz forces is markedly reduced and following 30% sustained MVC there is a significant (p less than 0.05) change in the time to peak tension (TPT) of the maximal twitch.  相似文献

This study examined the time course of glycogen accumulation in skeletal muscle depleted by concentric work and subsequently subjected to eccentric exercise. Eight men exercised to exhaustion on a cycle ergometer [70% of maximal O2 consumption (VO2max)] and were placed on a carbohydrate-restricted diet. Approximately 12 h later they exercised one leg to subjective failure by repeated eccentric action of the knee extensors against a resistance equal to 120% of their one-repetition maximum concentric knee extension force (ECC leg). The contralateral leg was not exercised and served as a control (CON leg). During the 72-h recovery period, subjects consumed 7 g carbohydrate.kg body wt-1.day-1. Moderate soreness was experienced in the ECC leg 24-72 h after eccentric exercise. Muscle biopsies from the vastus lateralis of the ECC and CON legs revealed similar glycogen levels immediately after eccentric exercise (40.2 +/- 5.2 and 47.6 +/- 6.4 mmol/kg wet wt, respectively; P greater than 0.05). There was no difference in the glycogen content of ECC and CON legs after 6 h of recovery (77.7 +/- 7.9 and 85.1 +/- 4.9 mmol/kg wet wt, respectively; P greater than 0.05), but 18 h later, the ECC leg contained 15% less glycogen than the CON leg (90.2 +/- 8.2 vs. 105.8 +/- 8.9 mmol/kg wet wt; P less than 0.05). After 72 h of recovery, this difference had increased to 24% (115.8 +/- 8.0 vs. 153.0 +/- 12.2 mmol/kg wet wt; P less than 0.05). To investigate how the sweating response to a sustained handgrip exercise depends on changes in the exercise intensity, the sweating response to exercise was measured in eight healthy male subjects. Each subject lay in the supine position in a climatic chamber (35 degrees C and 50% relative humidity) for approximately 60 min. This exposure caused sudomotor activation by increasing skin temperature without a marked change in internal temperature. After this period, each subject performed isometric handgrip exercise [15, 30, 45, and 60% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC)] for 60 s. Although esophageal and mean skin temperatures did not change with a rise in exercise intensity and were similar at all exercise intensities, the sweating rate (SR) on the forearm increased significantly (P < 0.05) from baseline (0.094 +/- 0.021 mg. cm(-2). min(-1) at 30% MVC, 0.102 +/- 0.022 mg. cm(-2). min(-1) at 45% MVC, 0.059 +/- 0.009 mg. cm(-2). min(-1) at 60% MVC) in parallel with exercise intensity above exercise intensity at 30% MVC (0.121 +/- 0.023 mg. cm(-2). min(-1) at 30% MVC, 0.242 +/- 0.051 mg. cm(-2). min(-1) at 45% MVC, 0.290 +/- 0.056 mg. cm(-2). min(-1) at 60% MVC). Above 45% MVC, SR on the palm increased significantly from baseline (P < 0.05). Although SR on the forearm and palm tended to increase with a rise in exercise intensity, there was a difference in the time courses of SR between sites. SR on the palm showed a plateau after abrupt increase, whereas SR on the forearm increased progressively during exercise. These results suggest that the increase in SR with the increase in sustained handgrip exercise intensity is due to nonthermal factors and that the magnitude of these factors during the exercise may be responsible for the magnitude of SR.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of antioxidant vitamin supplementation upon muscle contractile function following eccentric exercise and was performed double blind. Twenty-four physically active young subjects ingested either placebo (400 mg; n = 8), vitamin E (400 mg; n=8) or vitamin C (400 mg; n = 8) for 21 days prior to and for 7 days after performing 60 min of box-stepping exercise. Contractile function of the triceps surae was assessed by the measurement of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) and the ratio of the force generated at 20 Hz and 50 Hz tetanic stimulation before and after eccentric exercise and for 7 days during recovery. Following eccentric exercise, MVC decreased to 75 (4) % [mean (SE); n = 24; P < 0.05] of the preexercise values and the 20/50 Hz ratio of tetanic tension from 0.76 (0.01) to 0.49 (0.03) [mean (SE); n = 24; P<0.05). Compared to the placebo group no significant changes in MVC were observed immediately post-exercise, though recovery of MVC in the first 24 h post-exercise was greater in the group supplemented with vitamin C. The decrease in 20/50 Hz ratio of tetanic tension was significantly less (P < 0.05) post-exercise and in the initial phase of recovery in subjects supplemented with vitamin C but not with vitamin E. These data suggest that prior vitamin C supplementation may exert a protective effect against eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage.  相似文献

Previous research has demonstrated that prior exercise may reduce the magnitude of muscle soreness and impaired function (i.e., repeated bout effect [RBE]) observed during subsequent eccentric exercise. Previous investigations have predominantly used research designs that include single-joint exercise performed by untrained individuals. It is unknown how resistance trained individuals respond to novel multi-joint eccentric actions of the upper body and whether prior exercise offers protection. Thirty-one resistance trained men (23.4 +/- 3.5 y, 177.2 +/- 5.1 cm, 86.4 +/- 16.5 kg, mean +/- SD) were randomly assigned to repeated bout ([RB] N = 15) or single bout ([CON] N = 16) conditions. Both groups performed 100 eccentric actions of the bench press ([ECC] at 70% concentric 1 repetition maximum) to induce muscle injury. Bilateral maximal isometric force, dynamic exercise performance (e.g., bench press throws), and muscle soreness were measured before, immediately after, and at 24 and 48 hours post-ECC. Total work, percent fatigue, and rating of perceived exertion (ECC) data were collected during ECC. Those assigned to RB condition exhibited less fatigue (9.5 vs. 22.6%) and lower RPE (14.8 vs. 17.1) during ECC. A significant interaction (p < 0.05) was found such that RB individuals experienced less soreness at 24 (6.5 vs. 4.9) and 48 (6.6 vs. 3.9) hours postexercise than the CON condition. No significant group differences (p < 0.05) were found for any measured performance variable. Although soreness, fatigue, and RPE suggest a RBE, this was not found in regards to exercise performance. It appears that in trained men, performing a strenuous high-volume eccentric exercise bout 2 weeks prior to an identical future bout offers no additional amelioration of impaired exercise performance.  相似文献

Physiological stress associated with muscle damage results in systemic insulin resistance. However, the mechanisms responsible for the insulin resistance are not known; therefore, the present study was conducted to elucidate the molecular mechanisms associated with insulin resistance after muscle damage. Muscle biopsies were obtained before (base) and at 1 h during a hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp (40 mU x kg(-1) x min(-1)) in eight young (age 24+/-1 yr) healthy sedentary (maximal O(2) consumption, 49.7+/-2.4 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) males before and 24 h after eccentric exercise (ECC)-induced muscle damage. To determine the role of cytokines in ECC-induced insulin resistance, venous blood samples were obtained before (control) and 24 h after ECC to evaluate ex vivo endotoxin-induced mononuclear cell secretion of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1beta. Glucose disposal was 19% lower after ECC (P<0.05). Insulin-stimulated insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-1 tyrosine phosphorylation was 45% lower after ECC (P<0.05). Insulin-stimulated phosphatidylinositol (PI) 3-kinase, Akt (protein kinase B) serine phosphorylation, and Akt activity were reduced 34, 65, and 20%, respectively, after ECC (P < 0.05). TNF-alpha, but not IL-6 or IL-1beta production, increased 2.4-fold 24 h after ECC (P<0.05). TNF-alpha production was positively correlated with reduced insulin action on PI 3-kinase (r = 0.77, P = 0.04). In summary, the physiological stress associated with muscle damage impairs insulin stimulation of IRS-1, PI 3-kinase, and Akt-kinase, presumably leading to decreased insulin-mediated glucose uptake. Although more research is needed on the potential role for TNF-alpha inhibition of insulin action, elevated TNF-alpha production after muscle damage may impair insulin signal transduction.  相似文献

Although research has demonstrated that isokinetic eccentric (ECC) strength is 20-60% greater than isokinetic concentric (CON) strength, few data exist comparing these strength differences in standard dynamic resistance exercises. The purpose of the study was to determine the difference in maximal dynamic ECC and CON strength for 6 different resistance exercises in young men and women. Ten healthy young men (mean +/- SE, 25.30 +/- 1.34 years), and 10 healthy young women (mean +/- SE, 23.40 +/- 1.37 years) who were regular exercisers with resistance training experience participated in the study. Two sessions were performed to determine CON and ECC 1 repetitions maximum for latissimus pull-down (LTP), leg press (LP), bench press (BP), leg extension (LE), seated military press (MP), and leg curl (LC) exercises. Maximal ECC and maximal CON strength were determined on weight stack machines modified to isolate ECC and CON contractions using steel bars and pulleys such that only 1 type of contraction was performed. Within 2 weeks, participants returned and completed a retest trial in a counterbalanced fashioned. Test-retest reliability was excellent (r = 0.99) for all resistance exercise trials. Men demonstrated 20-60% greater ECC than CON strength (LTP = 32%, LP = 44%, BP = 40%, LE = 35%, MP = 49%, LC = 27%). Women's strength exceeded the proposed parameters for greater ECC strength in 4 exercises, p < 0.05 (LP = 66%, BP = 146%, MP = 161%, LC = 82%). The ECC/CON assessment could help coaches capitalize on muscle strength differences in young men and women during training to aid in program design and injury prevention and to enhance strength development.  相似文献

This study examined whether performing repeated bouts of eccentric exercise 2 and 4 days after an initial damaging bout would exacerbate muscle damage. One arm performed 3 sets of 10 eccentric actions of the elbow flexors (ECC1) using a dumbbell set at 50% of the maximal isometric force at 90 degrees (SINGLE). Two weeks later the same exercise was performed by the opposite arm with the exception that subsequent bouts were performed 2 (ECC2) and 4 (ECC3) days after ECC1 (REPEATED). In the REPEATED condition, maximal isometric force (MIF) decreased to the same level immediately after ECC1-3, and the decreases in range of motion (ROM) and increases in upper arm circumference immediately postexercise were similar among the bouts. However, no significant differences in changes in MIF, ROM, muscle soreness, and plasma creatine kinase activity were evident between the SINGLE and REPEATED conditions when excluding the changes immediately after ECC2 and ECC3. These results suggest that ECC2 and ECC3 did not exacerbate muscle damage or affect the recovery process.  相似文献

The role of muscle potentiation in overcoming low-frequency fatigue (LFF) as it developed during submaximal voluntary exercise was investigated in eight males (age 26.4 +/- 0.7 years, mean +/- SE) performing isometric leg extension at approximately 30% of maximal voluntary contraction for 60 min using a 0.5-duty cycle (1 s contraction, 1 s rest). At 5, 20, 40, and 60 min, exercise was interrupted for 3 min, and the maximum positive rate of force development (+dF/dtmax) and maximal twitch force (Pt) were measured in maximal twitch contractions at 0, 1, 2, and 3 min of rest (R0, R1, R2, R3); they were also measured at 15 min of recovery following the entire 60-min exercise period. These measures were compared with pre-exercise (PRE) as an indicator of potentiation. Force at low frequency (10 Hz) was also measured at R0, R1, R2, and R3, and at 15 min of recovery, while force at high frequency (100 Hz) was measured only at R0 and R3 and in recovery. Voluntary exercise increased twitch +dF/dtmax at R0 following 5, 20, 40, and 60 min of exercise, from 2553 +/- 150 N/s at PRE to 39%, 41%, 42%, and 36% above PRE, respectively (P<0.005). Twitch +dF/dtmax decayed at brief rest (R3) following 20, 40, and 60 min of exercise (P<0.05). Pt at R0 following 5 and 20 min of exercise was above that at PRE (P<0.05), indicating that during the early phase of moderate-intensity repetitive exercise, potentiation occurs in the relative absence of LFF. At 40 and 60 min of exercise, Pt at R0 was unchanged from PRE. The LFF (10 Hz) induced by the protocol was evident at 40 and 60 min (R0-R3; P<0.05) and at 15 min following exercise (P<0.05). High-frequency force was not significantly compromised by the protocol. Since twitch force was maintained, these results suggest that as exercise progresses, LFF develops, which can be compensated for by potentiation.  相似文献

Using (31)P magnetic resonance spectroscopy, creatine kinase (CK) reaction kinetics was assessed in the forearm flexor digitorum profundus muscle of healthy young (n = 11, age 34.7 +/- 5 yr) and older (n = 20, age 73.5 +/- 8 yr) subjects at rest, intermittent exercise at 20% maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), and 40% MVC. Exercise resulted in a significant increase in the average ratio of inorganic phosphate (P(i)) to phosphocreatine (PCr) from resting values of 0.073 +/- 0.031 (young) and 0.082 +/- 0.037 (older) to 0. 268 +/- 0.140 (young, P < 0.01) and 0.452 +/- 0.387 (older, P < 0. 01) at 40% MVC. At 40% MVC, intracellular pH decreased significantly, from resting values of 7.08 +/- 0.08 (young) and 7.08 +/- 0.11 (older) to 6.84 +/- 0.19 (young, P < 0.05) and to 6.75 +/- 0.25 (older, P < 0.05). Average values of the pseudo-first-order reaction rate k((PCr-->ATP)) at rest were 0.07 +/- 0.04 s(-1) in the young and 0.07 +/- 0.03 s(-1) in the older group. At both exercise levels, the reaction rate constant increased compared with the resting value, but only the difference between the resting value and the 20% MVC value, which showed an 86% higher reaction rate constant in both groups, reached statistical significance (P < 0.05). No difference in the reaction rate constant between the young and older groups was observed at either exercise level. As with k((PCr-->ATP)), the average phosphorus flux through the CK reaction increased during exercise at 20% MVC (P < 0.05 in the older group) but decreased toward resting values at 40% MVC in both groups. The data in our study suggest that normal aging does not significantly affect the metabolic processes associated with the CK reaction.  相似文献

We sought to determine whether common genetic variations at the beta2 (beta2-AR, Gln27Glu) and beta3 (beta3-AR, Trp64Arg) adrenergic receptor gene loci were associated with cardiovascular (CV) hemodynamics during maximal and submaximal exercise. CV hemodynamics were assessed in 62 healthy postmenopausal women (20 sedentary, 22 physically active, and 20 endurance athletes) during treadmill exercise at 40, 60, 80, and 100% maximal O2 uptake using acetylene rebreathing to quantify cardiac output. The beta2-AR genotype and habitual physical activity (PA) levels interacted to significantly associate with arteriovenous O2 difference (a-vDO2) during submaximal exercise (P = 0.05), with the highest submaximal exercise a-vDO2 in sedentary women homozygous for the beta2-AR Gln allele and no genotype-dependent differences in submaximal exercise a-vDO2 in physically active and athletic women. The beta2-AR genotype also was independently associated with a-vDO2 during submaximal (P = 0.004) and approximately 100% maximal O2 uptake exercise (P = 0.006), with a 1.2-2 ml/100 ml greater a-vDO2 in the Gln/Gln than in the Glu/Glu genotype women. The beta3-AR genotype, independently or interacting with habitual PA levels, was not significantly associated with any CV hemodynamic variables during submaximal or maximal exercise. Thus it appears that the beta2-AR genotype, both independently and interacting with habitual PA levels, is significantly associated with a-vDO2 during exercise in postmenopausal women, whereas the beta3-AR genotype does not appear to be associated with any maximal or submaximal exercise CV hemodynamic responses in postmenopausal women.  相似文献

Lower body eccentric exercise is well known to elicit high levels of muscular force with relatively low cardiovascular and metabolic strain. As a result, eccentric exercise has been successfully utilised as an adaptive stressor to improve lower body muscle function in populations ranging from the frail and debilitated, to highly-trained individuals. Here we investigate the metabolic, cardiorespiratory, and energy costs of upper body eccentric exercise in a healthy population. Seven men and seven women performed 4-min efforts of eccentric (ECC) or concentric (CON) arm cycling on a novel arm ergometer at workloads corresponding to 40, 60, and 80% of their peak workload as assessed in an incremental concentric trial. The heart rate, ventilation, cardiac output, respiratory exchange ratio, and blood lactate concentrations were all clearly greater in CON condition at all of the relative workloads (all p<0.003). Effect size calculations demonstrated that the magnitude of the differences in VO2 and work economy between the ECC and CON exercise ranged from very large to extremely large; however, in no case did mechanical efficiency (ηMECH) differ between the conditions (all p>0.05). In contrast, delta efficiency (ηΔ), as previously defined by Coyle and colleagues in 1992, demonstrated a sex difference (men>women; p<0.05). Sex differences were also apparent in arteriovenous oxygen difference and heart rate during CON. Here, we reinforce the high-force, low cost attributes of eccentric exercise which can be generalised to the muscles of the upper body. Upper body eccentric exercise is likely to form a useful adjunct in debilitative, rehabilitative, and adaptive clinical exercise programs; however, reports of a shift towards an oxidative phenotype should be taken into consideration by power athletes. We suggest delta efficiency as a sensitive measure of efficiency that allowed the identification of sex differences.  相似文献
