Summary Genetic variation in disease resistance to vascular-streak dieback (Vsd) was studied in 54 cocoa hybrid progenies from Trinitario x Amazonian crosses. The disease was assessed by the number of Vsd infected branches per tree, total length of infected branches, average depth of disease penetration within branches and percentages of infected and dead plants. Highly significant differences due to general combining ability for both Trinitario female parents and Amazonian male parents were obtained for all characters. Percent of dead plants was the only character where specific combining ability was also important. Gene effects were predominantly additive for most characters, indicating that selection for progenies resistant to Vsd is effective in the present breeding population. There is strong evidence that resistance to Vsd is in the form of horizontal resistance. It is polygenic and largely inherited as additive genes. Therefore, breeding for resistance is an effective means of controlling Vsd in Papua New Guinea.  相似文献

The inheritance of resistance in cocoa to infection with cocoa swollen-shoot virus was studied in seed inoculation experiments with progenies of Upper Amazon, Trinitario and West African Amelonado parents. In an eight parent diallel cross grown in two seasons and in six male × female factorial experiments, general combining abilities were much more important than specific combining abilities. The diallel cross revealed significant maternal effects but there was little evidence of specific reciprocal differences. Estimates of general combining abilities corresponded with expectation and were positively correlated with maternal effects, the latter indicating that tester parents should be used as males. The results from scaling tests with hybrids between selections from the River Nanay (a Peruvian tributary of the River Amazon) and Amelonado fitted a model with additive resistance; there was no evidence of dominance. Attempts to obtain stronger sources of resistance by hybridisation and selection were unsuccessful. In three crosses the resistance of individual seedlings was compared with that of the parents using test crosses but no evidence of transgressive segregation was obtained. In further experiments seedings of two hybrids between contrasting parents were heavily inoculated with virus so that few healthy survivors remained. Test crosses showed that these survivors and randomly selected seedlings of the same parentage did not differ as resistance sources.  相似文献

Summary The genetic basis of seed setting was evaluated in seven clones of alfalfa selected under predominantly self-pollinating conditions. They were hand crossed in all possible combinations. Their compatibility was studied by the percentage of flowers forming pods and number of seeds per pod during crossing. The variances for GCA, SCA and reciprocal effects were significant for percentage of pod set with a narrow sense héritability of 64 %. This suggested maternal influence of clones on percent pod set, controlled primarily by additive genetic components. GCA was the only significant component for number of seeds per pod with a narrow sense heritability of 71%. There were wide differences between the clones in their relative magnitude of GCA, SCA and reciprocal effects for both traits used as compatibility indexes. Performance of the diallel crosses was judged by studying seed yield and its related characters, namely seeds per pod, dry matter per plant, frost resistance, plant vigor and plant height. Although GCA and SCA variances were significant for all characters, reciprocal differences in general were absent. The SCA values were very high as compared to GCA. Narrow sense heritability values were very low while broad sense heritability were much higher. This suggested that almost none of the variation was due to additive genetic components and all the variability is controlled by interactions of a digenic, trigenic and quadrigenic nature and heterzozygosity. Heterosis was evaluated by comparing the seed yield of single crosses with their mid-parent and high-parent, and very high values were observed. Thus selection of better genes may not be feasible and further improvement in selected clones may have to be brought about by utilization of various interactions and heterosis. An attempt was made to find combinations of characters that may be used for the selection of seed yield but none were found to be satisfactory.  相似文献

The black pod disease caused by Phytophthora megakarya is responsible for 80% of the cocoa production loss in Cameroon. To assess the resistance of cocoa plants against this pathogen, necrotic lesions, phenolic content and qualitative alteration of phenolics were conducted in ICS84 and ICS95 clones (two Trinitario introduced from Trinidad) and their hybrids (families F30 and F25) derived from reciprocal cross breeding between these two parental clones after inoculation. The existence of strong hybrid vigour has been shown. Ninety percentage of the hybrid's genotypes manifested a positive heterosis effect for the development of lesion size. This suggests the existence of hybrid vigour with a genetic additive effect. F3086, F2509, F2552 and F2586 hybrids were characterized by localized lesions. Those hybrids genotypes can be considered as elite clones. In relation to analysis of total phenolics and lesion size, no maternal effect was detected in the transmission of these characters. A significant and negative correlation (r = −0.683) (P < 0.01) has been observed between necrosis evolution and phenolics accumulation. The values of the heritability of lesion size and the total phenolic content in offsprings did not permit to show the maternal effect. Qualitative analyses of phenolics showed high flavonones content in cocoa leaves. Qualitative analyses of phenolics in ICS84, ICS95 clones and their hybrids showed a modification of the phenolics profiles, notably concerning apigenin and luteolin derivatives due to the inoculation. These compounds, along with others that were not identified, could have a role in the reaction and mechanism of defence of cocoa against P. megakarya.  相似文献

The combining abilities of field resistance to peanut bud necrosis disease (PBND) caused by Peanut bud necrosis tospovirus (PBNV) were examined to understand the type of gene action governing resistance to the disease, and to identify peanut lines suitable for use as parents in a PBND‐resistance breeding programme. The Ft and F2 progenies from a six‐parent diallel cross and their parents were evaluated under field conditions. They were assessed for disease incidence at 30, 40, 50 and 60 days after planting (DAP), and reactions of the lines to the disease could be best differentiated at 50 and 60 DAP. Results indicated highly significant general combining ability (GCA) effects for PBND incidence in F1 and F2 generations. Specific combining ability (SCA) and reciprocal effects were also found to be significant, but their relative contributions to variation among crosses were much less than those of GCA effects. These results suggested that the type of gene action governing resistance to PBND was mainly additive, and selection for PBND resistance in these populations should be effective. Strong correlation coefficients between parental means and GCA effects for disease incidence were seen in both Ft and F2 generations, suggesting that per se performance of the parental line could be used as a predictor of the capability of the line to transmit its PBND‐resistant attribute to progenies. The reciprocal effects were in favour of using resistant lines as female parents. The peanut lines ICGV 86388, 1C 10 and 1C 34 were found to be suitable for use in a PBND–resistance breeding programme.  相似文献

采用7×7不完全双列杂交设计,对反映杂交水稻苗瘟抗性的5个指标进行了配合力和遗传力分析.结果表明,杂交水稻苗瘟抗性遗传力高,受加性和非加性基因效应共同控制,但以加性效应为主;恢复系的苗瘟抗性一般配合力效应明显相对重要于不育系,不育系苗瘟抗性一般配合力效应对F1代的抗性有显著的影响;14个供试亲本中,多恢1号、成恢149、K42A、K40A具有较好的苗瘟抗性一般配合力效应.因此,在杂交水稻抗苗瘟育种中,对恢复系的抗性GCA选择和对亲本的抗性GCA评鉴至关重要,但不应忽视不育系对组合的抗性贡献和对组合的抗性评鉴;多恢1号、成恢149、K42A和K40A可作为优良抗苗瘟亲本加以利用.  相似文献

In order to evaluate twelve doubled haploids (DHs) of Theobroma cacao L. used as parents, a trial was set up in C?te d'Ivoire. Several traits were observed, such as yield, vigour, yield/vigour ratios, resistance to the black pod disease caused by Phytophthora, percentage of flat beans and mean weight of 100 cocoa beans. Out of the three progenies derived from crosses between two DHs, two showed severe drawbacks. A reduction of the heterogeneity within these progenies was occasionally observed for some of the traits, but failed to be consistent. When tested as female parents in combination with diploid testers, some of the DHs showea significantly higher combining value than their parents for traits such as the mean weight of 100 beans and the yield/canopy surface ratio. The results showed the potential of DHs to improve selected parents in only one cycle of selection but more crosses between two DHs need to be tested in order to evaluate potential of the resulting F(1) progenies.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of the components of partial resistance to Cercospora arachidicola Hori in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) was examined in two five-parent diallels and in the six generations of two single crosses in greenhouse tests. The Griffing (1956) analysis indicated general combining ability (GCA) to be of most importance, yet large ratios of SCA/GCA sum of squares suggested nonadditive genetic variance as well. Reciprocal effects were found for lesion area and lesion number/10 cm2 leaf area. The importance of nonadditive genetic variance was substantiated by the lack of fit for the additive-dominance model in the Hayman's analysis (1954 a, b). Further evidence from the Hayman's analysis indicated that epistasis may be important in determining the inheritance of some of the components of resistance. Additive gene effects alone accounted for the genetic variability observed among the generation means from two single crosses for all components of resistance except latent period. Malus sieboldii Rehd. exhibits high levels of resistance to Valsa canker caused by Valsa ceratosperma (Tode ex Fr.) Maire while cultivated apples (Malus domestica Borkh.) are susceptible to the disease. In this study, progenies from 23 full-sib families derived from both inter- and intra-specific hybridization among 16 Malus genotypes as parents were assessed for resistance to V. ceratosperma (Vc) for two seasons using an excised shoot assay to determine the pattern of inheritance of the resistance and to also estimate the variance components, narrow-sense heritability, and breeding values of parental genotypes. Generally, M. sieboldii × M. domestica and its reciprocal crosses had more resistant progenies to Vc than intra-specific crosses of M. domestica. Resistance to Vc expressed as the relative lesion length among progenies showed continuous variation irrespective of cross, suggesting the quantitative nature of the resistance to the three virulent isolates of Vc that were tested. Resistance to Vc using the progeny population was analyzed using a mixed linear model based on restricted maximum likelihood. The parental effect (general combining ability (GCA)) was significant while the interaction effect between parents (specific combining ability (SCA)) was relatively small and non-significant. The ratio of SCA/GCA variance was about 32%, suggesting that additive genetic variance had a major contribution to the total genetic variance for resistance to Vc. There was a positive correlation (r = 0.49, p < 0.01) between mid-parental GCA and SCA predictions among 23 full-sib families for the resistance. Narrow-sense heritability estimated by sib analysis was moderate ( [^(h)]2 = 0.29 ) \left( {{{\hat{h}}^2} = 0.29} \right) . The predicted breeding values (BV) of the 16 parents indicated that M. sieboldii “Sanashi 63” and “Hayanarisanashi 1” would be useful for breeding for high levels of resistance to Vc.  相似文献

Resistant genotypes of the diploid tuber-bearing South American species Solarium arnezii x hondelmannii, S. berthaultii, S. leptophyes and S. microdontum were crossed with three diploid genotypes of S. tuberosum that varied in resistance and maturity type. The progenies were field tested for 2 years for resistance to a complex race of Phytophthora infestans. A wealth of genetic variation for resistance was found in most of the progenies. At least two susceptibility groups could be distinguished in some progenies of S. microdontum. This could be explained by the presence of several major resistance genes in the wild parent and, unexpectedly, in the susceptible parent SH 82-44-111. In most of the wild parents and in the susceptible parent SH 77-114-2988 there appeared to be minor resistance genes. General combining ability effects were predominant; small specific combining ability effects were detected in some crosses of S. microdontum. Gene action appeared dominant in some crosses.  相似文献

A diallel set of crosses, including selfs and some reciprocal crosses, was made between 15 parents chosen for their male fertility from those included in a tetraploid potato (Solanum tuberosum subsp. tuberosum) breeding programme at the Scottish Crop Research Institute. Seedling progeny tests were used to evaluate the progenies for non-race-specific resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans) in both foliage and tubers, quantitative resistance to the white potato cystnematode (PCN) (Globodera pallida) and the commercial worth of their tubers as judged by breeders' visual preference. No reciprocal differences were found. Comparisons of the selfs and crosses revealed inbreeding depression for breeders' preference, which varied among the parents from negligible to severe, whilst there were also statistically significant differences for foliage and tuber blight, but not for PCN. When the selfs were omitted from the combining ability analyses, large differences in general combining ability (GCA) were found for all four traits, and smaller differences in specific combining ability for tuber blight and breeders' preference. The only statistically significant correlation between GCAs for different traits was a favourable one of r = 0.56 between foliage and tuber resistance to late blight. It was concluded that prospects were good for simultaneously improving all four traits by multitrait genotypic recurrent selection.  相似文献

Selection of parents based on their combining ability is an effective approach in hybrid breeding. In this study, eight maintainer lines and nine restorer lines were used to obtain 72 crosses for analyzing the general combining ability (GCA) and special combining ability (SCA) for seven agronomic and yield characters including plant height (PH), spike length excluding awns (SL), inter-node length (IL), spikes per plant (SP), thousand kernel weight (TKW), kernel weight per plant (KWP) and dry matter weight per plant (DWP). The results showed that GCA was significantly different among parents and SCA was also significantly different among crosses. The performance of hybrid was significantly correlated with the sum of female and male GCA (TGCA), SCA and heterosis. Hu1154 A, Mian684 A, 86F098 A, 8036 R and 8041 R were excellent parents with greater general combining ability. Five crosses, Hu1154 A×8032 R, Humai10 A×8040 R, Mian684 A×8037 R, Mian684 A×8041 R and 86F098 A×8037 R, showed superior heterosis for most characters.  相似文献

The resistance and tolerance to infection with cocoa swollen-shoot virus (virulent strain A) of forty-five and thirty-eight cocoa progenies respectively was estimated using a manual inoculation method. Resistance was estimated from the proportion of inoculated seedlings which developed symptoms, and tolerance from the severity of these symptoms during a 4-month period. Resistance was found among Nanay, Iquitos and Scavina, all Upper Amazon types; and an inter-Nanay cross was outstandingly resistant and offers scope for improvement by breeding. Some Amazon-Amazon and Trinitario-Amazon progenies snowed tolerance, especially those with Trinitario T9/21 as a parent. Some progenies seem sufficiently promising for field testing to select varieties suitable for planting in those areas in Ghana where swollen-shoot disease is epidemic.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the reciprocal effects for anther culture response in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) using a set of 4 × 4 full diallel crosses. Both reciprocal and nuclear genetic effects were highly significant for anther culture response and useful for selection and breeding purposes. General combining ability (GCA) effects were predominant for all investigated anther culture traits. Also, significant differences for specific combining ability (SCA) effects were detected between reciprocal crosses. Although significant reciprocal differences for responding anther, callus number and green plant regeneration were recorded in some reciprocal crosses, there were no significant reciprocal differences for albino plant regeneration. The use of one parent as male or female could lead to change at the production of green plants from the F1 hybrids and screening of inbred lines for response to anther culture, without reciprocal effects, could decrease the utilization of breeding material.  相似文献

Summary The means of half-sib progenies have been indicated as selection criteria for intra-population improvement while the average of the means of full-sib progenies in diallel analyses have been proposed as predictors, in part, of the means of untested synthetic varieties. When these measures based on progeny means are expressed as deviations from a defined greater population of crosses, they are often termed the general combining ability (GCA). In this study the GCA estimates or a facsimile were theoretically investigated for the one locus, digene, autotetraploid model to verify the genetic basis and its value for selection and prediction in the presence of a naturally occurring phenomena of autopolyploids called gametic disequilibrium with three types of non-additive inheritance. Two breeding objectives were envisioned, the selection of best parents with recurrent selection based on GCA in the continued development of elite populations and the prediction of advanced generation synthetic variety performance. The first generation means of progenies with a potential bias due to gametic disequilibrium were compared to GCA estimation of same progenies in the absence of gametic disequilibrium. The results indicated that testcrossing plants to a population without gametic disequilibrium could be used for selection of best parents. The gametic disequilibrium in the cross may increase or depress selection response dependent on the array of genotypes which happen to be evaluated, on the type of genic action at the locus, and on the frequency of the desirable allele in the testor population. The GCA estimates for prediction of synthetic performance were potentially biased by gametic disequilibrium. An assumption of pollination by the same array of gametes was made for all plants, but obviously was unrealistic for GCA estimation with partial diallels, or with no selfing, and in other situations. The GCA estimate was shown to be an unreliable predictor of synthetic variety performance. Inheritance of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) was examined in F1 progenies derived from three crosses and three corresponding reciprocal crosses betweenStellaria porsildii andS. longifolia. Chloroplast DNA restriction fragments were analyzed using methods of nonradioactive digoxigenin-11-dUTP labeling and chemiluminescent detection with Lumi-Phos 530. Distinct interspecific restriction fragment polymorphisms were identified and used to demonstrate the mode of cpDNA inheritance. Mode of cpDNA inheritance differed among crosses. Two crosses in whichS. porsildii, SP2920-21, was the maternal parent exhibited three different types of plastids, maternal, paternal and biparental, among the F1 hybrids, suggesting a biparental cpDNA inheritance and plastid sorting-out inStellaria.  相似文献

Quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping for bean traits and the number of ovules per ovary was carried out in cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) using three test-cross progenies derived from crosses between a lower Amazon Forastero male parent (Catongo) and three female parents: one upper Amazon Forastero (IMC78) and two Trinitario (DR1 and S52). RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism), microsatellite, and AFLP (amplified fragment lengthpolymorphism) markers were used for mapping. Between one and six QTL for bean traits (length, weight, and shape index) and one and four QTL for the number of ovules per ovary were detected using composite interval mapping (CIM). Individual QTL explained between 5 and 24% of the phenotypic variation. QTL clusters were identified on several chromosomes, but particularly on chromosome 4. QTL related to bean traits were detected in the same region in both Trinitario parents and in a close region in the upper Amazon Forastero parent. In reference to a previous diversity study where alleles specific to Criollo and Forastero genotypes were identified, it was possible to speculate on the putative origin (Criollo or Forastero) of favorable QTL alleles segregating in both Trinitario studied.  相似文献

Genetic mapping of resistance factors to Phytophthora palmivora in cocoa.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Phytophthora palmivora causes pod rot, a serious disease on cocoa widespread throughout the producing regions. In order to ascertain the genetic determination of cocoa resistance to P. palmivora, a study was carried out on two progenies derived from crosses between a heterozygous, moderately resistant Forastero clone, T60/887, and two closely related and highly susceptible Forastero clones, one completely homozygous, IFC2, and one partially heterozygous, IFC5. The cumulative size of both progenies was 112 individuals. Plants were subjected to natural and artificial inoculation of P. palmivora in C te d'Ivoire. The genetic maps of T60/887 and of IFC5 were constructed using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers and microsatellites. The map of T60/887 comprised 198 markers assembled in 11 linkage groups and representing a total length of 793 cM. The map of IFC5 comprised 55 AFLP markers that were assembled into six linkage groups for a total length of 244 cM. Ratio of rotten over total number of fruit under natural infection was measured for each tree over two harvests. Artificial inoculations were performed on leaves and pods. These tests were weakly correlated with the pod rot rate in the field. Five quantitative trait loci (QTLs) of resistance were detected for T60/887 but none were common between the three traits measured. Stability and reliability of the experimental procedures are discussed and revealed the difficult use of these artificial tests on adult trees for a good prediction of field resistance.  相似文献

Progenies from crosses between different Upper Amazon cocoa types and between Upper Amazon and Amelonado were compared for their field resistance to infection with cocoa swollen-shoot virus (CSSV) virulent strain A. Among the intra-Amazon progenies, those from crosses of Scavina, Iquitos and Nanay groups showed most resistance. Progenies from crosses within these groups may have sufficient resistance to be of immediate practical value in reducing crop losses in areas where CSSV is widespread. Some Nanay progenies were more resistant than others and this provides scope for improvement by breeding. Progeny of crosses between Upper Amazon and Amelonado parents were less resistant than those from intra-Amazon crosses. The present results confirm those previously obtained in gauze-house tests on young plants.  相似文献

Aerides vandarum and Vanda stangeana are two rare and endangered vandaceous orchids with immense floricultural traits. The intergeneric hybrids were synthesized by performing reciprocal crosses between them. In vitro germination response of the immature hybrid embryos was found to be best on half-strength Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 20% (v/v) coconut water/liquid endosperm from tender coconut. Determination of hybridity was made as early as the immature seeds or embryos germinated in vitro, using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Out of 15 arbitrarily chosen decamer RAPD primers, two were found to be useful in amplification of polymorphic bands specific to the parental species and their presence in the reciprocal crosses. However, a decisive profile that can identify the reciprocal crosses could not be provided by RAPD. Amplification of the trnL-F non-coding regions of chloroplast DNA of the parent species and hybrids aided easy identification of the reciprocal crosses from the fact that maternal inheritance of chloroplast DNA held true for these intergeneric hybrids. Subsequent restriction digestion of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplified trnL-F non-coding regions of chloroplast DNA also consolidated the finding. Such PCR-based molecular markers could be used for early determination of hybridity and easy identification of the reciprocal crosses.  相似文献
