A perianal tick and the surrounding skin were surgically excised from a 73-year-old man residing in a southwestern costal area of the Korean Peninsula. Microscopically a deep penetrating lesion was formed beneath the attachment site. Dense and mixed inflammatory cell infiltrations occurred in the dermis and subcutaneous tissues around the feeding lesion. Amorphous eosinophilic cement was abundant in the center of the lesion. The tick had Y-shaped anal groove, long mouthparts, ornate scutum, comma-shaped spiracular plate, distinct eyes, and fastoons. It was morphologically identified as a fully engorged female Amblyomma testudinarium. This is the third human case of Amblyomma tick infection in Korea.  相似文献

We report two human cases of tick bite. A 63-year-old male had a pruritic pea-sized brownish nodule on the left popliteal area. Another 41-year-old male had an asymptomatic bean-sized black nodule in the pubic area. The ticks were identified as Ixodes nipponensis, which are the 18th and the 19th cases in Korea.  相似文献

A human case of tick bite on the scalp was found at a local hospital on June, 1984. The patient, 63-year old female, was attacked by a tick while working in a farm forest which located in the suburbs of Seoul. The clinical complaint was a (worm) mass on the scalp which she thought as a tumor. On admission the patient complained of facial edema and general malaise. After removal of the mass (tick), small bleeding and discoloration were observed around the biting site. The tick was morphologically examined and identified as Ixodes nipponensis. This is the 4th human case of tick bite reported in the literature of Korea.  相似文献

The present study was designed to investigate polymorphism in Duffy binding protein (DBP) gene of Plasmodium vivax isolates of Korea. Thirty samples were obtained from P. vivax patients in Yonchon-gun, Kyonggi-do in 1998. The PCR products of the samples were subjected to sequencing and hybridization analyses of the regions II and IV of P. vivax DBP gene. Two genotypes, SK-1 and SK-2, were identified on the basis of amino acid substitution and deletion. The genotype of 10 isolates was SK-1 and that of 20 isolates was SK-2. Most of the predicted amino acids in the region II of DBP gene were conserved between the Korean isolates and Belem strain except for 4-5 amino acid substitutions. In the region IV of DBP, a 6-bp insert that was shown in the Sal-1 allele type was found in SK-1, and a 27-bp insert that was shown in the Papua New Guinea allele type was found in SK-2. In conclusion, the present findings suggest that two genotypes of P. vivax coexist in the endemic area of Korea.  相似文献

The tick fauna of Brazil is currently composed by 72 species. The state of Amazonas is the largest of Brazil, with an area of ≈ 19% of the Brazilian land. Besides its vast geographic area, only 19 tick species have been reported for Amazonas. Herein, lots containing ticks from the state of Amazonas were examined in three major tick collections from Brazil. A total of 5933 tick specimens were examined and recorded, comprising 2693 males, 1247 females, 1509 nymphs, and 484 larvae. These ticks were identified into the following 22 species: Amblyomma cajennense sensu lato, Amblyomma calcaratum, Amblyomma coelebs, Amblyomma dissimile, Amblyomma dubitatum, Amblyomma geayi, Amblyomma goeldii, Amblyomma humerale, Amblyomma latepunctatun, Amblyomma longirostre, Amblyomma naponense, Amblyomma oblongoguttatum, Amblyomma ovale, Amblyomma rotundatum, Amblyomma scalpturatum, Amblyomma varium, Dermacentor nitens, Haemaphysalis juxtakochi, Ixodes cf. Ixodes fuscipes, Ixodes luciae, Rhipicephalus microplus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato. Ticks were collected from 17 (27.4%) out of the 62 municipalities that currently compose the state of Amazonas. The following four species are reported for the first time in the state of Amazonas: A. coelebs, A. dubitatum, H. juxtakochi, and Ixodes cf. I. fuscipes. The only tick species previously reported for Amazonas and not found in the present study is Amblyomma parvum. This study provides a great expansion of geographical and host records of ticks for the state of Amazonas, which is now considered to have a tick fauna composed by 23 species. It is noteworthy that we report 1391 Amblyomma nymphs that were identified to 13 different species.  相似文献

Scanning-electron-microscopic investigations of Haller's organ in larvae, nymphs I, II, III and IV, and male and female adultArgas (Persicargas) walkerae ticks showed that morphology and structural organization change during postembryonic development. Stage-dependent differences existed regarding setal numbers of the anterior pit as well as formation and reticulation of cuticular projections in the capsule cavity. The anterior pit increased in size in the course of postembryonic development. It contained only seven setae in larvae, one conical, setiform and grooved seta each as well as two porose and fine setae. Nymphs I, II, III and IV and adult ticks had equal numbers of setae; however, one additional unilaterally serrate and grooved seta each were present. Setal length increased continuously during postembryonic development and attained maximum values in adult ticks. The capsule consisted of roof and cavity and was located distinctly lateral in larvae, slightly lateral in nymphs I and II, and in all other stages directly on the longitudinal axis of tarsus. The capsule roof showed a reticular structure. The slit-like main aperture was located peripherally and arranged transversally to the longitudinal axis of tarsus I in larvae. Nymphs and adult ticks had a central, circular main aperture. Stage-dependent cuticular projections of varying form protruded into the capsule cavity. Larvae had only single, free-standing projections which ramified slightly and communicated with each other. Projections were more heavily reticulated in nymphs I and II. In nymphs III and IV as well as male and female adult ticks, a long centrally situated tube of reticular appearance was seen, which was supported by a large number of radially organized and interlocking pillars and communicated with the capsule roof. In all tick stages there were always four porose setae present, arranged on the capsule floor.  相似文献

Clinical characteristics associated with isolation of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato from skin have not been fully evaluated. To gain insight into predictors for a positive EM skin culture, we compared basic demographic, epidemiologic, and clinical data in 608 culture-proven and 501 culture-negative adult patients with solitary EM. A positive Borrelia spp. skin culture was associated with older age, a time interval of >2 days between tick bite and onset of the skin lesion, EM ≥5 cm in diameter, and location of the lesion on the extremities, whereas several other characteristics used as clinical case definition criteria for the diagnosis of EM (such as tick bite at the site of later EM, information on expansion of the skin lesion, central clearing) were not. A patient with a 15-cm EM lesion had almost 3-fold greater odds for a positive skin culture than patients with a 5-cm lesion. Patients with a free time interval between the tick bite and onset of EM had the same probability of a positive skin culture as those who did not recall a tick bite (OR=1.02); however, the two groups had >3-fold greater odds for EM positivity than patients who reported a tick bite with no interval between the bite and onset of the lesion. In conclusion, several yet not all clinical characteristics used in EM case definitions were associated with positive Borrelia spp. skin culture. The findings are limited to European patients with solitary EM caused predominantly by B. afzelii but may not be valid for other situations.  相似文献

A survey was conducted of natural populations of the sleepy lizard Tiliqua rugosa in South Australia to determine whether infestation by ectoparasitic ticks reduced their fitness. Between 1982 and 1990, 2183 captures of 824 individual lizards were made in an area where they were infested by the tick Aponomma hydrosauri, and 3668 captures of 586 individual lizards were made in an area where they were infested with the tick Amblyomma limbatum. Lizards with high tick loads in one year tended to have high loads the next year. Longevity of lizards in the study was either not correlated with tick load, or positively correlated. Size achieved was greater amongst lizards with greatest tick load, and lizards in mating pairs had higher tick loads than those never found in pairs. The data do not support the hypothesis that tick load diminishes host fitness.  相似文献

The present study presents the morphology, histology, and the dynamics of vitellogenesis in females of the tick Amblyomma triste. The ovary in this species is of the panoistic type, therefore it lacks nurse cells. It is composed of a layer of epithelial cells that outwardly form the wall of the ovary, but also originate the pedicel, the structure that attaches the oocytes to its external margin, as well the oocytes themselves. In Amblyomma triste, the oocytes develop in four synchronic stages, which differs from the process in other tick species. The classification of the stages of the oocytes was carried out based on the presence of four morphologic characteristics: cytoplasm appearance; site of the germ vesicle; presence, quantity, and constitution of the yolk granules and presence of chorium.  相似文献

Attempts were made to isolate and identify Korean bovine Babesia parasite. Blood samples were collected from Holstein cows in Korea, and Babesia parasites were propagated in SCID mice with circulating bovine red blood cells for isolation. The isolate was then antigenically and genotypically compared with several Japanese isolates. The Korean parasite was found to be nearly identical to the Oshima strain isolated from Japanese cattle, which was recently designated as Babesia ovata oshimensis n. var. Haemaphysalis longicornis was the most probable tick species that transmitted the parasite.  相似文献

In the present work features of tick-bite lesions were evaluated in capybaras naturally infested with Amblyomma cajennense and Amblyomma dubitatum ticks. Gross appearance of tick bite site was characterized by a mild swelling and erythema. Microscopic examination revealed the cement cone, a tube-like homogenous eosinophilic mass penetrating deep into the dermis. This structure was surrounded in the dermis by a cellular infiltrate and free eosinophilic granules and was associated to edema of variable intensity. Necrosis was a common feature deep in the dermis particularly at the far end of the eosinophilic tube. Hyperplasia, cellular edema and occasionally necrosis of keratinocytes could be seen at both sides of the ruptured epidermis. Cellular infiltrate was constituted overwhelmingly by polymorphonuclear leukocytes with eosinophilic granules. In capybaras cells with such features can be either eosinophils or heterophils (pseudoeosinophils), the latter being the equivalent of neutrophils of other mammals. Ultrastructural analysis of the cellular infiltrate revealed the predominance of heterophils over eosinophils. Mononuclear cells and mast cells and, in lesser numbers, basophils were also seen at skin attachment sites. The presence of heterophils in the reaction of capybaras against Amblyomma ticks is an outstanding feature but its role in the reaction to the tick is not known. It is however speculated that capybara heterophils might be associated with a more permissive environment for tick feeding and pathogen transmission as already shown for the equivalent cell type, the neutrophil, in the reaction of the dog against the Rhipicephalus sanguineus tick.  相似文献

The occurrence of ixodid ticks on N'Dama cattle was studied in the Republic of Guinea between June 1994 and May 1995. Monthly tick collections were performed on 80 animals from 14 villages located in Dabola, Kouroussa and Dinguiraye prefectures. A total of 19,804 ticks was collected and classified using standard taxonomic keys. The following tick species were identified: Amblyomma variegatum, Hyalomma marginatum rufipes, Hyalomma trunctum, Hyalomma nitidum, Rhipicephalus lunulatus, Rhipicephalus muhsamae, Rhipicephalus senegalensis, Rhipicephalus sulcatus, Rhipicephalus turanicus, Boophilus annulatus, Boophilus geigyi. Boophilus spp. were the most numerous adult ticks (57.1%), Am. variegatum adults constituted 27.4%, while 12.4% were Rhipicephalus spp. and 2.5% Hyalomma spp. Rhipicephalus turanicus and Hyalomma nitidum were recorded for the first time in the country. Am. variegatum and Boophilus spp. were present throughout the year, whereas Am. variegatum adults showed a peak during the rainy season between April and September. Immature stages collected belonged exclusively to the genera Amblyomma and Boophilus. Am. variegatum larvae and nymphs showed a peak during the dry season (October-March); no significant variation between seasons was observed for Boophilus immatures. A significantly higher infestation of cattle by Rhipicephalus spp. was found in Dabola and Kouroussa prefectures, located in the southern part of the study area, with similar climatic, vegetation and rainfall characteristics. Possible options for the control of ticks in the study area are briefly discussed.  相似文献

A 59-year-old Korean man complained of a painless scrotal hard nodule and weak urine stream. The ultrasound scan revealed a 2.2-cm sized round heteroechogenic nodule located in the extratesticular area. Microscopic hematuria was detected in routine laboratory examinations. On scrotal exploration, multiple spargana were incidentally found in the mass and along the left spermatic cord. On cystoscopy, a 10-mm sized mucosal elevation was found in the right side of the bladder dome. After transurethral resection of the covered mucosa, larval tapeworms were removed from inside of the nodule by forceps. Plerocercoids of Spirometra erinacei was confirmed morphologically and also by PCR-sequencing analysis from the extracted tissue of the urinary bladder. So far as the literature is concerned, this is the first worm (PCR)-proven case of sparganosis in the urinary bladder.  相似文献

Ticks were collected from 35 animals from 5 provinces and 3 metropolitan cities during 2012. Ticks also were collected by tick drag from 4 sites in Gyeonggi-do (2) and Jeollabuk-do (2) Provinces. A total of 612 ticks belonging to 6 species and 3 genera were collected from mammals and a bird (n=573) and by tick drag (n=39). Haemaphyalis longicornis (n=434) was the most commonly collected tick, followed by H. flava (158), Ixodes nipponensis (11), Amblyomma testudinarium (7), H. japonica (1), and H. formosensis (1). H. longicornis and H. flava were collected from all animal hosts examined. For animal hosts (n>1), the highest Tick Index (TI) was observed for domestic dogs (29.6), followed by Siberian roe deer (17.4), water deer (14.4), and raccoon dogs (1.3). A total of 402 H. longicornis (adults 86, 21.4%; nymphs 160, 39.8%; larvae 156, 38.9%) were collected from wild and domestic animals. A total of 158 H. flava (n=158) were collected from wild and domestic animals and 1 ring-necked pheasant, with a higher proportion of adults (103, 65.2%), while nymphs and larvae only accounted for 12.7% (20) and 22.2% (35), respectively. Only 7 A. testudinarium were collected from the wild boar (6 adults) and Eurasian badger (1 nymph), while only 5 I. nipponensis were collected from the water deer (4 adults) and a raccoon dog (1 adult). One adult female H. formosensis was first collected from vegetation by tick drag from Mara Island, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do Province.  相似文献

The ovary of the tick Amblyomma triste is classified as panoistic, which is characterized by the presence of oogonia without nurse and follicular cells. The present study has demonstrated that the oocytes in all developmental stages (I-IV) are attached to the ovary through a pedicel, a cellular structure that synthesizes and provides carbohydrate, lipids and proteins supplies for the oocytes during the vitellogenesis process. The lipids are deposited during all oocyte stages; they are freely distributed as observed in stages II, III and IV or they form complexes with other elements. The proteins are also deposited in all stages of the oocytes, however, in lower concentration in the stage IV. There is carbohydrate deposition from oocytes in the stage II as well as in stages III and IV. In addition, the present work has demonstrated that the oocyte yolk of A. triste has a glycolipoprotein nature and the elements are deposited in the following sequence: firstly the lipids and proteins, and finally the carbohydrates.  相似文献

The macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) has been identified from some vertebrates and invertebrates. MIF is related to inflammation, tumor growth, and angiogenesis in vertebrates. Here, we report the molecular characterization of a homologue of MIF from partially fed Haemaphysalis longicornis. The sequence analysis of the H. longicornis MIF (HlMIF) indicated that its deduced amino acid sequence has an identity of 77% with the MIF of the tick Amblyomma americanum. Western blot analysis using the anti-His-HlMIF antibody showed that HlMIF was up-regulated during blood feeding. Immunohistochemistry showed that the endogenous HlMIF in partially fed ticks was localized to the midgut and epidermal cells. Moreover, the functional assay revealed that the GST-HlMIF inhibited the migration of human monocytes. In conclusion, we consider that HlMIF may facilitate blood feeding by inhibiting host macrophage migration to the feeding lesion or may participate in the proliferation and differentiation of cells in the tick body.  相似文献

A 69-year-old Korean man was admitted to emergency room with complaints of abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Laboratory tests revealed eosinophilia, anemia, hypoproteinemia, and hyponatremia. The gastric mucosa showed whitish mottled and slightly elevated lesions on the body angle of antrum. Microscopically, chronic gastritis with incomplete intestinal metaplasia was observed. Many adult worms, larvae, and eggs in cross sections were located in the crypts. Furthermore, the filariform larvae of Strongyloides stercoralis with a notched tail were detected through the culture.  相似文献

Tick species density and diversity on Aldabran tortoises was investigated in relation to the habitat range and size of each tortoise. Identification of tick infestation patterns forms an important aspect of effective tick control. Ten Aldabran tortoises were de‐ticked and monitored over the course of 2 months. Tick species found were Amblyomma sparsum, Amblyomma nuttalli, Amblyomma hebraeum and Boophilus decoloratus, with the most prevalent species found being A. sparsum. Tick loads varied considerably from 20 to 214 ticks per tortoise, with most ticks collected from the head/neck region. Tortoises ranging outside Haller Park had higher tick loads (70–214) compared with tortoises ranging within Haller Park (20–99). Tick load was not correlated with tortoise size. Results indicate that tick loads are related to the habitat range of the tortoises and may indirectly also be related to food preference and host food availability. Implications of the findings and appropriate tick control measures are discussed.  相似文献
