Tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) modified sugarcane bagasse (SB), a novel biosorbent (TEPA-MSB), was proved to be an effective adsorbent for anionic dyes due to the introduced functional amino groups. FTIR, TG and DSC analysis were employed to characterize the sorbent. The effects of pH, temperature, contact time and initial concentration of dye on the adsorption of eosin Y were investigated. The experimental data fit very well to the Langmuir model, giving a maximum sorption capacity of 399.04 mg/g at 25 °C. And the kinetic data were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. pH 6 was the optimal pH for eosin Y adsorption, and the maximum adsorption capacity of TEPA-MSB calculated by Langmuir model was 18 times higher than that of SB.  相似文献

Chitosan (CTS) is a good adsorbent for dyes but lacks the ability to adsorb cationic dyes. In this study, chitosan was modified to possess the ability to adsorb cationic dyes from water. Four kinds of phenol derivatives: 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (BA), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DBA), 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-acetic acid (PA), hydrocaffeic acid (CA) were used individually as substrates of tyrosinase to graft onto chitosan. FTIR analysis provided supporting evidence of phenol derivatives being grafted. The grafting amounts of these phenol derivatives onto chitosan were examined by the adsorption of an anionic dye (amaranth) and reached a plateau value. The final contents of carboxyl groups in chitosan (mmol carboxyl groups per kg chitosan) were measured as 46.36 for BA, 70.32 for DBA, 106.44 for PA, and 113.15 for CA. These modified chitosans were used in experiments on uptake of the cationic dyes crystal violet (CV) and bismarck brown Y (BB) by a batch adsorption technique at pH 7 for CV and at pH 9 for BB and 30 degrees C. Langmuir type adsorption was found, and the maximum adsorption capacities for both dyes were increased with the following order CTS-CA>CTS-PA>CTS-DBA>CTS-BA.  相似文献

N,O-carboxymethyl-chitosans (N,O-CMC) with different degree of substitution (DS) were synthesized under heterogeneous conditions by controlling the reaction temperature. The factors influencing adsorption capacity of N,O-CMC such as the DS of N,O-CMC, initial pH value of the dye solution and adsorption temperature for anionic dye congo red (CR) were investigated. Compared with chitosan (78.90 mg/g), N,O-CMC with the DS of 0.35 exhibited much higher adsorption capacity (330.62 mg/g) for CR at the same adsorption conditions. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms showed that the sorption processes were better fitted by pseudo-second-order equation and the Langmuir equation, respectively. The adsorption mechanism of N,O-CMC was also discussed by means of IR and XPS spectra. The results in this study indicated that N,O-CMC was an attractive candidate for removing CR from the dye wastewater.  相似文献

Sodium alginate/Na(+)-rectorite (SA/Na(+)REC) intercalated nano-composite microspheres were prepared in an inverse suspension system. The effect of the preparation conditions of SA/Na(+)REC composite microspheres on adsorption capacity for Basic Blue 9 was investigated. The structure and morphology were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that the optimal condition was that the amount of Na(+)-rectorite was 2wt%, the amount of cross-linker was 0.384% and the amount of the initiator was 8%. SEM showed that it is porous products with spherical particulate surface. XRD showed that intercalation is formed between Na(+)-rectorite and sodium alginate. The adsorption capacity of SA/Na(+)REC was investigated in comparison with Na(+)-rectorite and sodium alginate using different cationic dyes. The SA/Na(+)REC composite microspheres showed the highest adsorption capacity. The reason lies in the existence of intercalated sodium alginate. It could enlarge the pore structure of microspheres, facilitating the penetration of macromolecular dyes.  相似文献

Abstract

In the present work, Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) tree seed pod fibers (STSPF) and nano-scale zero valent iron particles (nZVI) immobilized in Sycamore tree seed pod fibers (nZVI?STSPF) were produced. This biosorbent has been utilized as a viable effective biosorbent in the removing of methylene blue hydrate (MB), malachite green oxalate(MG), methyl violet 2B(MV) dyes from synthetic wastewater. The biosorbents were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Various parameters such as contact time, solution concentration, pH and amount of biosorbent were investigated in order to evaluate the potential of the nanomaterials immobilized on natural wastes as sorbing biomaterials for the cationic dyes. Study on sorption kinetic and the sorption isotherm was carried out and best fitting models for the rate kinetics and isotherms were suggested. Langmuir isotherm was observed to be compatible with the isotherm models. The STSPF in the raw form showed the best dye sorption capacity of 43.67?mg/g for MG, 25.32?mg/g for MV, and 126.60?mg/g for MB. The magnetic nZVI?STSPF showed the best dye sorption capacity 92.59?mg/g for MG, 92.59?mg/g for MV, and 140.80?mg/g for MB. The iron nanoparticles immobilized biosorbent exhibited a higher removal capacity for all dyes compared to the raw biosorbent.  相似文献

Abstract

The removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution using grape stalks wastes encapsulated in calcium alginate (GS–CA) beads was investigated. Cr(VI) sorption kinetics were evaluated as a function of chromium initial concentration and grape stalks (GS) content in the calcium alginate (CA) beads. The process follows pseudo second-order kinetics. Transport properties of hexavalent chromium on GS–CA beads was characterised by calculating chromium diffusion coefficient using the Linear Absorption Model (LAM). Langmuir isotherms, at pH 3.0 were used to describe sorption equilibrium data as a function of GS percentage in the CAbeads. Maximum uptake obtained was 86.42 mmol of Cr(VI) per L of wet sorbent volume. Results indicated that both kinetic and equilibrium models describe adequately the adsorption process.  相似文献

We investigated the use of solid residues from Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom production in adsorbing and decolorizing different dyes. The solid residue used in this study was composed of hemicellulose and cellulose (52.81 %), acid-insoluble lignin (25.42%), chitin (6.5%), and water extractives (14.82%). After incubating 14% (wt/vol) solid residue in distilled water for 4 h, laccase and manganese peroxidase (MnP) activities were 0.5 U/g and 12 mU/g, respectively. Enzymatic decolorization percentages were up to 100 for azure B (heterocyclic dye) and indigo carmine (indigoid dye), 74.5 for malachite green (MG) (triphenylmethane dye), and zero for xylidine (azoic dye). The optimum temperature for decolorization was in the range of 26 ∼ 36°C for all dyes. Data obtained on adsorption (enzymatic decolorization was prevented with sodium azide) at different dye concentrations and in a pH range of 3 ∼ 7 were used to plot Freundlich isotherms. The spent fungal substrate (SFS) displayed large differences in adsorption capacity, depending on the dye tested. The highest adsorption capacity was observed at pH 3 for MG, while xylidine was slightly adsorbed at pH 3 and 4 and not adsorbed at higher pH values. Laccase and MnP production were affected by the presence of the dyes. The highest enzyme levels were observed in the presence of MG, when laccase and MnP increased 1.39- and 2.13-fold, respectively. Decolorization and adsorption to SFS are both important processes in removing dyes from aqueous solutions. The application of this spent substrate for wastewater treatment will be able to take advantage of both of these dye removal processes. An important problem in bioremediation processes involving microorganisms is the amount of time required for their growth. In this report, we used the spent substrates from mushroom cultivation in wastewater treatment, thus solving the problem of waiting for microorganisms to grow.  相似文献

Chitosan can be used as adsorbent in the treatment of effluents from the textile industry, especially for negatively charged dyes, due to its cationic polyelectrolyte nature. In this work, the sorption of a model dye, methyl orange, on chitosan hydrobeads is analyzed in terms of equilibrium and kinetic approaches. Equilibrium studies showed that dye adsorption had a mixed Freundlich-Langmuir behavior that had its Langmuir character increased as the pH was increased. In terms of adsorption kinetics, it was found to be of nth-pseudo-order, with fractional n increasing from approximately 2 to approximately 2.5 as pH and initial dye concentration in the continuous phase were increased. The increase in the apparent pseudo-order was related to changes in mathematical approximation for the solution of the sorption rate equation, which were the result of the decrease in the ratio (number of active sites for adsorption)/(number of adsorbate molecules).  相似文献

A new, low cost, locally available biomaterial was tested for its ability to remove cationic dyes from aqueous solution. Granules prepared from kohlrabi peel had been utilized as a sorbent for uptake of three cationic dyes, methylene blue (MB), neutral red (NR) and acridine orange (AO). The effects of various experimental parameters (e.g., dye concentration, particle size, initial pH, contact time and other factors) were investigated and optimal experimental conditions were ascertained. Above the value of initial pH 4, three dyes studied could be removed effectively. The isothermal data fitted the Langmuir model in the case of NR sorption and the Freundlich model for all three dyes sorption. The biosorption processes followed the pseudo-first-order rate kinetics. The results in this study indicated that kohlrabi peel was an attractive candidate for removing cationic dyes from the dye wastewater.  相似文献

Abstract

The unique property of biochar, synthesized from a green seaweed (Ulva lactuca), to remediate complex Remazol dye bearing wastewater was investigated. Preliminary trials were targeted to explore the remediation capacity of biochar towards each of Remazol dyes (Remazol brilliant blue R (RBBR), Remazol brilliant orange 3R (RBO3R), Remazol brilliant violet 5R (RBV5R), and Remazol Black B (RBB)) in single-solute system. The results show that equilibrium pH played a vital part with maximum sorption observed at pH 2.0. The isotherm experiments confirmed that biochar exhibited high uptakes of 0.301, 0.292, 0.265, and 0.224?mmol/g for RBO3R, RBBR, RBV5R, and RBB, respectively. Due to the presence of multiple dyes as well as high concentration of auxiliary chemicals, the performance of biochar to remediate Remazol effluent was inhibited markedly compared to single solute systems. Nevertheless, the dye removal efficiency was above 77.5% and the decolorization rate was high with more than 95% of total dye decolorization completed within 240?min. Our results provide novel insights into the potential of biochar to remove Remazol dyes from complex dye wastewaters.  相似文献

An untried, low cost, locally available biosorbent for its anionic dye removal capacity from aqueous solution was investigated. Powder prepared from peanut hull had been used for hiosorption of three anionic dyes, amaranth (Am), sunset yellow (SY) and fast green FCF (FG). The effects of various experimental parameters (e.g.initial pH and dye concentration, sorbent dosage, particle size, ion strength, contact time etc.) were examined and optimal experimental conditions were decided. At initial pH 2.0, three dyes studied could be removed effectively. When the dye concentration was 50 mg" L-1 the percentages of dyes sorbed was 95.5 % in Am, 91.3 % in SY and 94.98 % in FG, respectively. The ratios of dyes sorbed had neared maximum values in all three dyes whensorbent dose of 5.0 g·L^-1 and the sorbent particle size in 80—100 mesh was used. The increasing the ion strength of solution caused the decrease in biosorption percentages of dyes. The equilibrium values arrived at about 36 hour for all three dyes. The isothermal data of biosorption followed the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The biosorption processes conformed the pseudo-first-order rate kinetics. The results indicated that powdered peanut hull was an attractive candidate for removing anionic dyes from dye wastewater.  相似文献

A new and inexpensive lignocellulose/montmorillonite (LNC/MMT) nanocomposite was prepared by a chemical intercalation of LNC into MMT and was subsequently investigated as an adsorbent in batch systems for the adsorption-desorption of Ni(II) ions in an aqueous solution. The optimum conditions for the Ni(II) ion adsorption capacity of the LNC/MMT nanocomposite were studied in detail by varying parameters such as the initial Ni(II) concentration, the solution pH value, the adsorption temperature and time. The results indicated that the maximum adsorption capacity of Ni(II) reached 94.86 mg/g at an initial Ni(II) concentration of 0.0032 mol/L, a solution pH of 6.8, an adsorption temperature of 70°C, and adsorption time of 40 min. The represented adsorption kinetics model exhibited good agreement between the experimental data and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The Langmuir isotherm equation best fit the experimental data. The structure of the LNC/MMT nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), whereas the adsorption mechanism was discussed in combination with the results obtained from scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analyses (FTIR). The desorption capacity of the LNC/MMT nanocomposite depended on parameters such as HNO3 concentration, desorption temperature, and desorption time. The satisfactory desorption capacity of 81.34 mg/g was obtained at a HNO3 concentration, desorption temperature, and desorption time of 0.2 mol/L, 60 ºC, and 30 min, respectively. The regeneration studies showed that the adsorption capacity of the LNC/MMT nanocomposite was consistent for five cycles without any appreciable loss in the batch process and confirmed that the LNC/MMT nanocomposite was reusable. The overall study revealed that the LNC/MMT nanocomposite functioned as an effective adsorbent in the detoxification of Ni(II)-contaminated wastewater.  相似文献

Biosorbents prepared from dead macro fungi, namely Fomes fomentarius and Phellinus igniarius, were applied for the uptake of Methylene Blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RB). Equilibrium isotherm data could be well described by the Langmuir and Freundlich models. Methylene Blue was found to be more adsorbable than Rhodamine B. Langmuir monolayer coverage was determined as 204.38-232.73 mg/g and 25.12-36.82 mg/g for MB and RB, respectively. Molecular structure and ionic radius of dyes were found to be responsible for differences in their uptakes. Results showed that sorption of MB increased while that of RB decreased as pH of respective dye solutions changed from 3 to 11. An increase in ionic strength also exhibited an adverse effect on dye sorption capacity. Ionic strength and pH affected the sorption of MB more as compared to the sorption of RB. The presence of carboxylic (-ve) and amino (+ve) groups in RB could explain the lower sorption of RB compared to MB.  相似文献

CarAlg/MMt nanocomposite hydrogels composed of kappa-carrageenan (Car) and sodium alginate (Alg) biopolymers were synthesized by incorporation of sodium montmorillonite (Na-MMt) nanoclay. Acrylamide (AAm), methylenebisacrylamide (MBA), and ammonium persulfate (APS) were used as monomer, crosslinker, and initiator, respectively. The structure and morphology of nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, SEM, and TEM techniques. The XRD results showed exfoliated MMt nanoclay and exfoliation of MMt was confirmed by TEM graph. The resulting nanocomposites were evaluated to remove cationic crystal violet (CV) dye from water. According to data, the adsorption capacity of nanocomposites was enhanced as the clay content was increased. The experimental data were analyzed according to both Langmuir and Freundlich models and experimental maximum adsorption capacity was obtained 88.8 mg g−1. By studying the effect of pH on the dye adsorption capacity of nanocomposites, it was revealed that the adsorption capacity of nanocomposites was enhanced at acidic pHs as the Na-MMt nanoclay and kappa-carrageenan components were increased.  相似文献

The kinetic, thermodynamic and isotherm modeling studies were carried out on adsorptive removal of Victoria blue (VB) dye using activated carbon, Ba/alginate and modified carbon/Ba/alginate polymer beads. The feasibility of sorption process was determined by varying the experimental parameters viz., dye concentration (4–20 mg L−1), contact time (10–90 min), pH (3–10), adsorbent dose (0.5–2.5 g) and temperature (303–343 K). Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms were determined and ascertained with the dimensionless separation factor (RL). Lagergren's pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion model equations were used to analyze the kinetics of the adsorption process. The thermodynamic consistency of adsorption was found with Gibbs free energy (ΔG°), changes in enthalpy (ΔH°) and entropy (ΔS°) were calculated using the Van’t Hoff plot. The polymer beads were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and their morphology was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).  相似文献

Summary Chitosan is an amino-polysaccharide with highly efficient properties for the binding of metal ions and anionic dyes. Uptake may occur through chelation on free amino functions (at near-neutral pH) or by electrostatic attraction on protonated amino groups (in acidic solutions). The polymer is soluble in acidic solutions and its binding properties can be used in both solid form (sorption) and liquid form (ultrafiltration coupled with chelation, coagulation–flocculation). These properties have been used for the recovery of mercury from dilute solutions at initial pH 5 (which reveals the most efficient pH in the range pH 4–6) and for the recovery of Reactive Black 5 (RB5, anionic dye) at pH 3. While in the case of mercury binding saturation of the biopolymer is only slightly higher when chitosan is used in the liquid form compared to solid-state adsorption, in the case of the coagulation–flocculation of RB5 (using the liquid-form of chitosan) the saturation of the polymer (calculated on the basis of molar ratio of dye vs. amino groups of the polymer) is reached at a significantly greater value than when the polymer is used for the solid-state binding of the dye. There is a much more efficient use of amino groups when chitosan is used in the liquid-form due to a better availability of amino groups (less hydrogen bonds between the chains of the polymer) and to a better accessibility to internal sorption sites (lower diffusion control).  相似文献

The sorption capacity of cadmium (Cd (II)) on three new generated nanocomposite beads sodium alginate (SA) based; SA-Clay (SA-C) beads, SA-Phosphate (SA-P) beads, and SA- Activated Charcoal (SA-Ch) beads was investigated in a batch scale, then a continuous flow reactor. The highest adsorption capacity (137 mg/g) was obtained for SA-Ch using 1000 mg/L of initial Cd (II). The isotherm results showed that the adsorption equilibrium is compatible with the Langmuir isotherm and the sorption capacity of SA-Nano-adsorbent beads is very high. The models used for representing kinetic data was given that the removal of Cd (II) be well-fitted by second-order reaction kinetics. For the fixed bed column treatment, the maximum breakthrough times were 30, 38, and 48  h respectively for the SA-C, SA-P, and SA-Ch.According to the obtained results, it was concluded that SA-Nano-adsorbent bead is an excellent designed material as a nanocomposite for cadmium elimination from wastewater in a continuous treatment process.  相似文献

In the current paper, a novel amphoteric straw-based adsorbent was prepared and applied to adsorb various dyes from aqueous solutions. The amphoteric adsorbent was proven effective in eliminating both cationic and anionic dyes (methylene blue and acid green 25), especially at corresponding favored pH conditions. The fundamental adsorption behavior of the adsorbent on removing various dyes was also investigated at different temperatures. The adsorption isotherms were all best-fitted by the Langmuir equation, whereas the adsorption kinetics was well-described by both the pseudo-second order model and the Elovich model. The experimental result revealed that the adsorption mechanism followed the monolayer chemical adsorption with an ion-exchange process.  相似文献

Summary Dye pairs of contrasting colours were selected from acid dyes of varied chemical characteristics. The 44 dye pairs were investigated in a one-bath trichrome staining system in which the dye-baths were strongly acid. Dye concentrations, concentration ratios and staining times were varied for each dye pair. Thirty dye pairs stained collagen fibres distinctly different colours to muscle cytoplasm, while 14 dye pairs gave muddy, non-selective staining. Comparison of dye structures showed that in selective pairs the larger dye always stained the collagen fibres, with cytoplasm being coloured by the smaller species. With 28/30 of the selective dye pairs the differences in anionic weights of the dyes was > 200. However, in dye pairs giving non-selective staining, the anionic weights of the members of 13/14 of the dye pairs differed by < 200. As no other structural feature correlated so clearly with selectivity, it was concluded that the selectivity of one-bath trichromes is diffusion-rate controlled, involving the interaction of differentially permeable tissue sites (collagen being more permeable than muscle cytoplasm) with dyes diffusing at different rates (large dyes slower than small). In keeping with this, lengthening staining times reduced staining selectivity. The rate control mechanism suggested a rational trouble-shooting guide for one-bath trichromes, encompassing such practical factors as dye concentration, embedding medium, fixative, dye-bath pH, section thickness and staining time.  相似文献
