Semi-natural grassland soils are frequently fertilised for agricultural improvement. This practice often comes at a loss of the indigenous flora while fast-growing nitrogen-responsive species, such as Lolium perenne, take over. Since soil microbial communities depend on plant root exudates for carbon and nitrogen sources, this shift in vegetation is thought to influence soil microbial community structure. In this study, we investigated the influence of different plant species, fertilisation and L. perenne ingression on microbial communities in soils from three semi-natural Irish grasslands. Bacterial and fungal community compositions were determined by automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis, and community changes were linked to environmental factors by multivariate statistical analysis. Soil type had a strong effect on bacterial and fungal communities, mainly correlated to soil pH, as well as soil carbon and nitrogen status. Within each soil type, plant species composition was the main influencing factor followed by nitrogen fertilisation and finally Lolium ingression in the acidic upland and mesotrophic grassland. In the alkaline grassland, however, Lolium ingression had a stronger effect than fertilisation. Our results suggest that a change in plant species diversity strongly influences the microbial community structure, which may subsequently lead to significant changes in ecosystem functioning.  相似文献

Guadalupe is an oceanic island located in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico's northwest coast. Its flora is composed of many plant species with more northern affinities and disjunctions from the California Floristic Province. Almost 16% of the native plant species are endemic, including two monospecific genera. However, the activities of feral goats released in the early 19th century have devastated most of the island. At present, at least 26 native plant species have disappeared from Guadalupe and many more seem to be on the threshold. To add to the problem, 61 exotic plant species have been documented on the island, many of which are aggressive weeds. In this paper, we propose eight types of environmental conditions for the island where different species assemblages of the pristine flora probably existed before their demise. It is of obvious urgency that the island needs a recovery plan and the first step should include the eradication of the feral goats. Only after this process can subsequent conservation measures be applied to ensure any restoration of this natural heritage. The recovery plan will need to address both spontaneous and human-induced plant repopulation processes from the main island's three southern islets, which have never been impacted by goats. Also, it may be necessary to reintroduce non-endemic, native plant taxa from the nearest Californian islands and the Mexican coast in order to reestablish some of the island's original diversity of plant species and communities. However, it should be noted that the forested communities do not have great hopes of recovering in the short term, since the ground water and soil conditions have been significantly altered. Furthermore, the eradication of an estimated 4000 goats still living on the island (year 2000) depends upon the vacillating motivation and will of Mexican authorities.  相似文献

Basidiomycota constitute a group of fungi with highly diverse ecological strategies from ectomycorrhizas and plant pathogens to saprotrophic fungi. We used 454 sequencing to obtain sequences of Basidiomycota from a cultivated and an adjacent fallow field, to investigate the influence of soil cultivation on the species composition and distribution patterns. Nonparametric multidimensional scaling (NMS) clearly segregated the basidiomycetes communities in the two fields, though some species were shared. Axis 1 and 2 of the ordination correlated with soil organic matter content and pH respectively. Most OTUs had affinity to known species, but some unknown clades were seen in both fields. Spatial analysis demonstrated higher spatial autocorrelation (up to 50 m) in the managed field in comparison with the fallow field. The study showed that agricultural soils have considerable species richness, and that community composition and turn-over potentially is influenced both by land use and spatial scale.  相似文献

新疆奇台荒漠植物群落的数量分类及土壤环境解释   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
为阐明古尔班通古特沙漠南缘荒漠植物群落的分类及与土壤因子的相关关系, 作者于2005年6–7月在新疆奇台县采用机械布设样线和样线上随机布设样地的方法进行了野外调查。共设置48块20 m×10 m的样方, 每个样方中又梅花状设置5个1 m×1 m的草本样方进行植被调查。植被调查结束后, 选择群落外貌上差异显著的样地进行土壤取样(取土深度分别为0 cm、10 cm、30 cm、50 cm、80 cm), 共获得20个样方的土壤样本。以植物重要值作为衡量植物组成相似性的指标, 应用逐步聚类的方法将调查区域植被划分为4种类型: 芦苇(Phragmites australis)+芨芨草(Achnatherum splendens)群落, 梭梭(Haloxylon ammodendron)–枇杷柴(Reaumuria songarica)+西伯利亚白刺群落(Nitraria sibirica), 梭梭–心叶驼绒藜(Ceratoides ewersmanniana)–白茎绢蒿(Seriphidium terrae-albae)群落和心叶驼绒藜–骆驼刺(Alhagi sparsifolia)群落。不同群落类型土壤因子的主成分分析的结果表明: 提取3个主分量能够解释85.65%的群落间土壤因子差异, 第1主分量与土壤平均pH值和深层土壤pH值相关, 第2主分量与平均有机质含量和土壤浅层有机质含量相关, 而第3主分量与平均土壤含盐量和土壤浅层含盐量相关。  相似文献

植物群落的数量分类和排序可以客观地揭示植物群落与环境之间的关系,从而能为植被恢复与重建、森林经营与管理和生物多样性保护等提供理论依据。基于群落学调查和环境因子测定数据,采用Ward聚类、双向指示种分析(TWINSPAN)和多元回归树(MRT)对桂林岩溶石山青冈群落进行数量分类,选用冗余分析(RDA)进行排序,分析其与环境因子之间的关系。结果表明:(1)3种分类方法所得结果基本一致,可将桂林岩溶石山青冈群落划分为3个群丛类型,分别为青冈-粗糠柴+龙须藤+红背山麻杆-三穗薹草群丛(Ass.Cyclobalanopsis glauca-Mallotus philippensis+Bauhinia championi+Alchornea trewioides-Carex tristachya)、青冈-龙须藤+红背山麻杆+干花豆-宽叶沿阶草+三穗薹草群丛(Ass.Cyclobalanopsis glauca-Bauhinia championi+Alchornea trewioides+Fordia cauliflora-Ophiopogon platyphyllus+Carex tristachya)、青冈-粗糠柴+干花豆-三穗薹草群丛(Ass.Cyclobalanopsis glauca-Mallotus philippensis+Fordia cauliflora-Carex tristachya);(2)冗余分析结果较好地反映出各群丛类型的分布格局及其与环境梯度的相互关系,在10个环境因子中,岩石裸露率、土壤含水量、pH值、全氮、全磷、全钾、速效钾这7个环境因子对群落的分布影响显著。土壤含水量和全钾含量可能是影响该植物群落物种组成与分布的重要生态因子。  相似文献

The vascular plant flora of open land on superficial bedrock in southem Sweden (northwards to 59°N) is described and related to soil chemical properties. including soil acidity (pH), exchangeable Al, Ca, Fe, Mn, Mg, and phosphate, as well as to soil solution pH and concentrations of Al, Ca and Mg, and to the contents of soil organic matter, soil depth and bedrock types (sandstone, gneiss, granites, various dark igneous rocks and limestones). About 120 localities with totally 652 sites (4 m2) have been examined. Experimental evidence for the toxicity of acid soils and mineral nutrient deficiency of neutral and alkaline soils is related to field data. Hydrogen and Al ion toxicity in acid soils and low phosphate solubility in neutral - alkaline soils are identified as major factors limiting the field distributions of rock habitat plants. Some species (e.g., Rumex acetosella and Sedum telephium ) were limited by phosphate also in acid soils. The relative importance of H and Al ion concentrations to plant performance under variously acid soil conditions is discussed, and strong evidence is given for a decisive influence of Al ion toxicity on species diversity at pH-KCI > 4.5. The importance of grazing and former land use is considered briefly and the floristic differences between the western and the eastern half of the study area are discussed originating from differences in general distribution patterns of species and soil chemical properties.  相似文献

Woody species encroachment of grasslands globally causes many socioecological impacts, including loss of grazing pastures and decreased biodiversity. Soil microbial communities may partially regulate the pace of shrub encroachment, as plant-microbial interactions can strongly influence plant success. We measured fungal composition and activity under dominant plant species across a grassland to shrubland transition to determine if shrubs cultivate soil microbial communities as they invade. Specifically, soil microbial communities, abiotic soil properties, and extracellular enzyme activities were quantified for soils under four common Chihuahuan Desert plant species (three grasses, one shrub) in central New Mexico, U.S.A. Extracellular enzyme activity levels were fairly consistent under different plant species across the grassland to shrubland transition. Activity levels of two enzymes (alkaline phosphatase and beta-N-acetyl-glucosaminidase) were lower in the ecotone, presumably because soil organic matter content was also lower in ecotone soils. Community composition of soil fungi mirrored patterns in the plant community, with distinct plant and fungal communities in the shrubland and grassland, while grassland-shrubland ecotone soils hosted a mix of taxa from both habitats. We show that shrubs cultivate a distinct microbial community on the leading edge of the invasion, which may be necessary for shrub colonization, establishment, and persistence.  相似文献

Plant communities as a tool in temporary ponds conservation in SW Portugal   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Temporary ponds are seasonal wetlands annually subjected to extreme and unstable ecological conditions, neither truly aquatic nor truly terrestrial. This habitat and its flora have been poorly studied and documented because of the ephemeral character of the flora, the changeable annual weather that has a great effect on the small, herbaceous taxa and the declining abundance of temporary ponds. The objectives of this study are: (a) to define plant community diversity in terms of floristic composition of ephemeral wetlands in SW Portugal, (b) to identify temporary pond types according to their vegetation composition and (c) to identify those ponds that configure the European community priority habitat (3170* – Mediterranean temporary ponds). Vegetation sampling was conducted in 29 ponds, identifying 168 species grouped among 15 plant communities. Soil texture, pH, organic C and N content were measured, but only N and percent of clay appear to be related with the distribution of each community type. The results showed that ephemeral wetlands could be classified into four type: vernal pools, marshlands, deep ponds and disturbed wetlands. Vernal pools correspond to the Mediterranean temporary ponds (3170*), protected as priority habitat under the EU Habitats Directive. Submersed Isoetes species (Isoetes setaceum and Isoetes velatum) represents, together with Eryngium corniculatum, the indicator species for vernal pools. We identify also indicator plant communities of this priority habitat, namely I. setaceum and E. corniculatumBaldellia ranunculoides plant communities. In this region, the conservation of temporary ponds has so far been compatible with traditional agricultural activities, but today these ponds are endangered by the intensification of agriculture and the loss of traditional land use practices and by the development of tourism. Questions

Our study focused on spontaneous vegetation in urban greenspaces in a Mediterranean city with the aim of relating plant community properties with ecological services along soil disturbance gradients. We asked which plant communities have the greatest plant biodiversity and soil carbon storage and the best-performing nutrient cycles and water regulation.

Location

Madrid City (Central Spain).

Methods

We studied four types of plant communities following soil disturbance gradients: vegetation on trampled soils, roadside vegetation, annual grasslands and perennial forbs. Regarding vegetation, we studied plant composition and productivity, plant diversity, plant growth forms and functional groups. Regarding soils, we determined soil organic carbon (TOC), available nutrients, the activity of seven enzymes relating to the main macronutrient cycles, and physical properties such as bulk density (BD) and soil water-holding capacity (WHC). We used one-way ANOVA to determine the influence of the plant community type on both soil and vegetation variables. Canonical correspondence analysis was performed to interpret the relationships between plant species assemblages with environmental gradients.

Results

Perennial forbs showed greater biomass and developed on soils with the greatest TOC and available phosphorus. Annual grasslands displayed the highest plant diversity. Roadside vegetation developed on soils with higher phenoloxidase activity when compared to vegetation on trampled soils and annual grasslands. Vegetation on trampled soils developed on soils with lower WHC, lower beta-glucosidase, arylamidase and phosphatase activities and higher BD when compared to perennial forbs. Plant community distribution followed gradients most significantly associated with soil organic matter content, soil compaction and nutrient cycling performance.

Conclusions

We conclude that plant communities are good indicators of ecosystem function and services which are unevenly distributed throughout urban habitats. The management in Mediterranean unmaintained urban greenspaces should be aimed at avoiding soil compaction to promote biodiversity, carbon storage and water regulation.  相似文献

Small headwater fens at high elevations exist in the dry climatic regime of western Colorado, despite increasing demands for water development since the 1800’s. Fens on Grand Mesa have accumulated plant material as peat for thousands of years due to cold temperatures and consistently saturated soils. The peatlands maintain unique plant communities, wildlife habitat, biodiversity, and carbon storage. We located and differentiated 88 fens from 15 wet meadows and 2 marshes on Grand Mesa. Field work included determining vegetation, soils, moisture regimes, and impacts from human activities. All fens were groundwater-supported systems that occurred in depressions and slopes within sedimentary landslide and volcanic glacial till landscapes. Fens occupied 400 ha or less than 1 % of the 46,845 ha research area and ranged in size from 1 to 46 ha. Peat water pH in undisturbed sites ranged from 4.3 to 7.1. Most fens had plant communities dominated by sedges (Carex) with an understory of brown mosses. Variation in vegetation was controlled by stand wetness, water table level, organic C, conductivity (EC), and temperature °C. Fen soils ranged from 13.6 to 44.1 % organic C with a mean of 30.3 %. Species diversity in fens was restricted by cold short growing seasons, stressful anaerobic conditions, and disturbance. Multivariate analysis was used to analyze relationships between vegetation, environmental, and impact variables. Stand wetness, water table level, OC, electrical conductivity (EC), and temperature were used to analyze vegetation variance in undisturbed fens, wet meadows, and marshes. Vegetation composition in impacted fens was influenced by flooding, sedimentation, stand wetness, water table level, OC, EC, and temperature. Hydrologically modified fens supported 58 plant species compared to 101 species in undisturbed fens. Analysis of historical 1936–2007 aerial photographs and condition scalars helped quantify impacts of human activities in fens as well as vegetation changes. Fourteen fens had evidence of peat subsidence, from organic soil collapse, blocks of peat in the margins, soil instability, and differences in surface peat height between the fen soil surface and the annually flooded soil surface. Of 374 ha of fens in the Grand Mesa study area, 294 ha (79 %) have been impacted by human activities such as ditching, drainage, flooding, or vehicular rutting. Many fens had little restoration potential due to severe hydrological and peat mass impacts, water rights, or the cost of restoration.  相似文献

Bacteria colonize reactive minerals in soils where they contribute to mineral weathering and transformation. So far, the specificity, patterns and dynamics of mineral colonization have rarely been assessed under natural conditions. High throughput Illumina sequencing was employed to investigate the bacterial communities assembling on illite and goethite during exposure to natural grassland soils. Two different types of organic carbon sources, simple carbon compounds representing root exudates and detritus of two dominant grassland plant species were applied, and their effects on the temporal dynamics of bacterial communities were investigated. The observed temporal patterns suggest that the surfaces of de novo exposed minerals in soils drive the establishment of bacterial communities and override the effect of the type of carbon sources and of other environmental properties. Mineral colonization was selective and specific bacterial sequence variants exhibited distinct colonization patterns, among which early, intermittent, and late colonizers could be distinguished. Based on our results, soil minerals are not only colonized by specific bacterial communities but enable a succession of different bacterial communities. Our results thereby expand the concept of the mineralosphere and provide novel insights into mechanisms of community assembly in the soil ecosystem.  相似文献

Fungi and vascular plant interactions are necessary components of natural community establishment, productivity and degradation. While many fungal species serve as decomposers of organic matter, others have evolved mutualistic or parasitic relationships with vascular plants. This research focused on characterizing associations among macrofungi, vascular plant communities and soils. Ha Ha Tonka State Park is in central Missouri and has a varying landscape with numerous natural community types that provide diverse habitats and microhabitats that are ideally suited to the investigation of fungal, floral and soil associations. Five communities sampled within the park included glades, open woodlands, flatwoods, closed-canopy forests and karst sinks. Permanent 0.01 ha. plots were surveyed in the 2006 and 2007 growing seasons. Surveys of plots and entire communities yielded 249 fungal taxa and approximately 265 floral taxa. Soils were analyzed to help define specific edaphic components of each community and used to associate soil attributes with plant and fungal communities. Forest communities contained the most ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi species. Karst sinks and glades had higher soil pH and phosphorus and fewer ectomycorrhizal fungi. Statistical analyses included non-metric multidimensional scaling, multiresponse permutation procedure and indicator species analysis. Indicator species were identified for flatwood, forest and karst communities, but results were inconclusive for glades and open woodlands.  相似文献

Abstract. In this paper we analyse six communities with seven Mimosa species in the Tehuacán‐Cuicatlán valley, Mexico. All species are endemic to Mexico and four are endemic to the valley. Mimosa species are found in (1) the ‘matorral xerófilo’ (arid tropical scrub): Mimosa calcicola, M. lacerata, M. luisana, M. polyantha and M. purpusii, and (2) the ‘selva baja caducifolia’ (tropical deciduous forest): M. adenantheroides, Mimosa texana var. filipes. Most of them occur in similar soil environments, while M. polyantha and M. calcicola establish in particular soil conditions and only M. luisana establishes in two different sites showing a wider range of adaptation to soil characteristics. The communities studied include 24 plant families, 51 genera and ca. 70 species (5% of the total flora estimated in the valley). Heterogeneity was found among the communities. Our results point to the replacement of ‘matorral xerófilo’ and ‘selva baja caducifolia’ by ‘matorral espinoso’ (thorny scrub). Thorny species (e.g. Acacia cochliacantha, Mimosa spp.) are becoming the dominant/codominant elements in the communities. Within the communities, Mimosa species have a significant influence on soil pH, organic matter and electrical conductivity values. These species contribute to ameliorate soil nutrient conditions (OM, Ntot, P, Ca, Mg, Na and K contents) as well as other environmental factors (e.g. temperature, shade) under their canopy in degraded plant communities and may serve as ‘resource islands’.  相似文献

Abstract. Succession was studied on plots with the upper soil horizon removed in an area affected by acidic air pollution in the Kru?né Hory Mts., Czech Republic. 10 permanent 1‐m2 plots were marked and vegetation recorded annually using a grid of 100 subplots from 1989 to 1995. Constrained ordination analyses showed that soil texture is the most important environmental factor influencing the course of succession. Its effect on species composition increases with successional age of the plant community. On fine‐grained soils species‐poor communities dominated by grasses (Calamagrostis villosa, Deschampsiaflexuosa) and on coarse‐grained soils species‐rich communities dominated by heather (Calluna vulgaris) developed. Succession proceeded from communities where species composition was determined by diaspore availability towards communities where species composition depended on environmental conditions. Successional communities after 10 yr are more dependent on soil characteristics and consequently environmental determination increases over the course of succession and causes the communities to diverge.  相似文献

The seasonal variation and distribution of microfungi in four soil types collected from two districts of Andhra Pradesh (India) were studied.Besides soil type and surface vegetation, it appears from the present study that soil moisture, organic matter, potassium, calcium, iron and phosphorus contents also may affect the fungal numbers favourably, while chlorides, total soluble salts, total nitrogen and manganese contents may have an adverse effect.Even alkaline soils harbour greater numbers of fungi, but small fluctuations in the pH seem to influence the fungal numbers in soils inversely.A total of 101 species representing 43 genera were isolated. These included 18 Phycomycetes, 5 Ascomycetes, 72 Fungi Imperfecti, 5 Mycelia Sterilia and a single Myxomycete. The order of occurrence of the chief genera of fungi isolated wasAspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Pythium, Curvularia, Phoma, Cunninghamella, Rhizopus, Alternaria andTrichoderma.A large number of genera and species were found common to the forest, maize field, garden and uncultivated soils; and the fungal flora was also not very much different from those recorded from various parts of the world.  相似文献

为了加快汶川地震滑坡迹地人工恢复植被的进程,探讨地震诱发的滑坡迹地植物群落与环境的关系。在5·12地震重灾区北川境内选取29个样地进行植被调查,采用10个环境指标刻画植物群落的地形、空间位置和土壤养分特征;利用TWINSPAN、CCA、DCA和DCCA,分析植物种、植物群落和植物生活型与环境的关系。结果显示:1)研究区的植物群落可划分为9个类型。2)研究区环境变量对植物种的解释量为21.96%,第一排序轴与pH值、海拔、土壤质地相关,反映的是植物种从次生植物群落向原生植物群落变化。通过DCCA分析得出,环境变量对植物群落的排序解释了25.7%,第一排序轴与pH值、海拔、土壤质地的相关较强,反映植物群落按照耐旱、耐贫瘠→人工或先锋植物→未受损的植被变化;第二排序轴与土壤有机质、全氮含量、坡向的相关,反映的是植物群落从草本植物→乔灌草或者灌草植物变化。3)滑坡迹地的植物群落与未受损林地的植物群落物种存在较大差异。  相似文献

生物多样性沿环境梯度的变化是生物多样性研究的重要内容,环境梯度包含了多种环境因子(海拔高度、水热条件、人类扰动等)的综合。以伊洛河流域草本植物群落为对象,沿河从入黄河口到河源地选取典型样地调查研究伊洛河流域草本植物群落物种多样性及其分布格局。结果表明:物种丰富度和Shannon-Wiener多样性指数沿河均稍呈"S"型曲线变化,不同群落类型中分布格局差别不大,各群落类型中的物种丰富度和多样性均呈现出中游丘陵山地交界区最高,上游河源区次之,下游平原地区最低的趋势;β多样性指数的变化趋势与α多样性较一致,总体上呈现出中游丘陵山地区物种更替速率较快,平原区更替较慢;在流域内上游河源地属于自然植被区,人为干扰较轻,具有较高的物种多样性,物种替代主要受物种的竞争扩散能力和生境条件的制约;在下游平原农业区,人类活动强烈,区域内以人工生态系统为主,物种组成简单,物种替代具有跳跃性的特征,主要受人类活动的制约;在中游从自然生态系统向农业生态系统的过渡区域,人类活动的扰动有一定的强度,导致该区域内自然分布种和伴人种混合生长,具有较高的物种多样性和较快的物种替代速率。总体上伊洛河流域草本植物群落物种多样性分布格局强烈的受到人类活动的影响,物种替代速率较高。  相似文献

Biological invasions are regarded as one of the main drivers of habitat degradation in island ecosystems. Mediterranean islands have been subjected to a high degree of land conversion over the past 60 years, resulting in a massive reduction in the amount of rural land and the sprawl of tourist activities. The aims of this paper are to evaluate the current level of invasion of alien plant species in semi-natural vegetation types that have developed after the abandonment of agriculture and to analyze the relationships between non-native species, native flora, and environmental characteristics. Two Italian islands (Ponza and Ventotene) were surveyed using a random-stratified sampling. The occurrence and relative cover of alien plant species were compared and separate analyses were performed for the native flora. Abundance patterns of both native and alien species were then studied in the light of the environmental and anthropogenic features. Although we found that some non-native species are extremely widespread, their relative cover at the plot level is low. Permutational Multivariate Analysis of Variance and Indicator Species Analysis revealed dissimilarities in the native species composition, while Mann–Whitney and Kruskal–Wallis tests showed differences in the ecological requirements (moisture, soil reaction, and nitrogen) of the native species pool. Canonical Correspondence Analysis pointed to the importance of the proximity to agricultural areas, human disturbance, and past land management, particularly residual terraces, in determining the difference between plant communities on the two islands. The results of our study suggest that traditional forms of agriculture may represent a key element for countering the establishment and spread of non-native plants in Mediterranean areas.  相似文献

Question: What is the influence of hydrological regime, soils and management on the plant community composition and species richness of Skealoghan turlough (groundwater dependent calcareous wetland). Location: Skealoghan turlough, County Mayo, Ireland. Methods: Percentage cover of vascular plants and bryophytes were recorded, and data on hydrological regimes, soils and management were collected. Data were analysed using multivariate statistical techniques. Results: A total of 69 species of vascular plants and mosses were recorded. Cluster analysis grouped the samples into two separate communities, the Cirsio‐Molinietum and the Ranunculo‐Potentilletum anserinae plant communities. The plant community composition and species richness followed a main gradient down into the turlough basin, but also varied with microtopography, resulting in a mosaic of vegetation types. Conclusions: The biodiversity and conservation value of the site is linked to the heterogeneity in its physical environment in which hydrology, soils and grazing management all play critical roles.  相似文献
