This study assessed the interactive effect of selenium (Se) and farmyard manure (FYM) on soil microbial activities, growth, yield, and Se accumulation by wheat grains. Preliminarily, the effect of Se (0–250 µg kg?1 soil) and FYM (0–12.5 g kg?1 soil) was assessed on soil microflora. Selenium exhibited an adverse impact on soil microflora; respiration was decreased at?≥?10 µg kg?1 soil while dehydrogenase and urease activities were decreased at?≥?125 µg kg?1 soil. At 250 µg Se kg?1 soil, respiration, dehydrogenase and urease activities were decreased by 81, 40 and 35%, respectively, on unamended soil, and by 9, 47 and 22%, respectively, on FYM-amended soil. The subsequent plant experiments were conducted with same Se and FYM rates; one was harvested 42 days after sowing and other at crop maturity. The application of 125 µg Se kg?1 and 12.5 g FYM kg?1 soil improved seedling biomass by 12.6 and 22%, respectively, while their combined use lacked synergistic effect. Similarly, at maturity Se and FYM increased grain yield while their combined effect was not synergistic. The Se-induced suppression in microbial activities was not related to yield which was improved (11% at the highest rate in unamended soil) by Se application. Selenium application increased grain Se content in a rate-dependent manner, it increased from 0 to 1025 µg kg?1 by applying 250 µg Se kg?1 soil. Moreover, FYM application decreased Se accumulation in grains. It is concluded that FYM application increased soil microbial activities and yield but reduced grain Se accumulation in wheat on Se-applied soil.

Cadmium (Cd) concentration in field-grown tobacco leaves usually ranges from < 0.5 to 5 mg Cd kg–1 dry matter (DM). Reducing bioavailability of soil Cd by adding amendments to the soil could be suitable to mitigate Cd uptake by tobacco plants. However, little is known on the effect of inorganic amendments on agricultural soils with low Cd concentrations. Therefore, we performed a pot experiment with tobacco plants that were grown during 56 days in two neutral to alkaline agricultural soils with low total Cd concentrations (soil 1 = 0.4, soil 2 = 0.7 mg kg–1). Both soils were amended or not with 1 or 5% of sepiolite, zeolite, hydroxyapatite and apatite II™. Major and trace elements were measured in mid-stalk position leaves. Soil metals were measured in a DTPA soil extraction to assess the effect of the amendments on metal bioavailability. Some amendments significantly reduced Cd concentration in tobacco leaves, but the effect differed between the two soils tested. In soil 1, the use of zeolite at the 1% dose was the most efficient, reducing the average Cd concentration from 0.6 to 0.4 mg kg–1. In soil 2, the 5% hydroxyapatite treatment led to the maximal reduction in Cd concentration (50%), with an average final Cd concentration in leaves of 0.7 mg kg–1 (control: 1.5 mg kg–1). There was a dose effect for some amendments in soil 2 (containing more Cd), suggesting a reduced efficiency of the amendment at the lowest addition rate. DTPA extractable Cd and Zn measured at the end of the pot experiment were correlated to the metal concentrations in tobacco leaves suggesting that (1) the reduction in leaf Cd concentration was due to a reduction in metal availability to tobacco and (2) DTPA may be a suitable extractant to estimate Cd availability to tobacco plants in these two soils. In addition, a batch experiment was performed with the same soils to test a larger number of amendments, including the four tested in the pot experiment. Results were compared to those of the pot experiment to assess whether a batch experiment may predict the efficiency of an amendment on a given soil. It gave results compatible with those from the pot experiment except for the sepiolite and highlighted the broad range of potential amendments available for heavy metal remediation in crop plants.  相似文献

In soil biota, higher and enduring concentration of heavy metals like cadmium (Cd) is hazardous and associated with great loss in growth, yield, and quality parameters of most of the crop plants. Recently, in-situ applications of eco-friendly stabilizing agents in the form of organic modifications have been utilized to mitigate the adverse effects of Cd-toxicity. This controlled experiment was laid down to appraise the imprints of various applied organic amendments namely poultry manure (PM), farmyard manure (FYM), and sugarcane press mud (PS) to immobilize Cd in polluted soil. Moreover, phytoavailability of Cd in wheat was also accessed under an alkaline environment. Results revealed that the addition of FYM (5–10 ton ha-1 ) in Cd-contaminated soil significantly increased germination rate, leaf chlorophyll content, plant height, spike length, biological and grain yield amongst all applied organic amendments. Moreover, the addition of FYM (5–10 ton ha-1 ) also reduced the phytoavailability of Cd by 73–85% in the roots, 57–83% in the shoots, and 81–90% in grains of wheat crop. Thus, it is affirmed that incorporation of FYM (5–10 ton ha-1 ) performed better to enhance wheat growth and yield by remediating Cd. Thus, the application of FYM (5–10 ton ha-1 ) reduced the toxicity induced by Cd to plants by declining its uptake and translocation as compared to all other applied organic amendments to immobilize Cd under sandy alkaline polluted soil.  相似文献

The present research study evaluate and identify the most suitable and high yielding genotypes of Lens culinaris for the salt marsh habitat of Swat in moist temperate sort of agro climatic environment of Pakistan. A total of fourteen genotypes were cultivated and analyzed through Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). These genotypes were AZRC-4, NL-2, NL4, NL-5, NL-6, NARC-11-1, NARC-11-2, NARC-11-3, NARC-11-4, 09503, 09505, 09506, P.Masoor-09 and Markaz-09. Different parameters i.e., germination rate, flowering, physiological maturity, plant height, biological grain yield, seed weight, pods formation and its height, pods per plants and protein content were focused specially throughout the study. Preliminary the Lentil genotypes have significant variability in all the major morpho-agronomic traits. The days to germination, 50% flowering and 100 seed weight ranged from 7 to 9, 110 to 116 days, and from 5.4 to 7.3 gm respectively. Biological yield and grain yield ranged from 5333 to 9777 kg ha−1 and 1933 to 3655 kg ha−1 respectively. Whereas, protein contents ranged from 23.21% to 28.45%. It was concluded that the genotype AZRC-4 is better varity in terms of grain yield plus in 100 seed weight and moreover, 09506 genotype was significant under salt marsh habitat in early maturing for the Swat Valley, Pakistan.  相似文献

The ability of selected plants and amendments to treat Pb, Cd and Zn accumulations from a metalliferous waste disposal site was studied both in the greenhouse and field. Spinach (Spinacea oleracea), cabbage (Brassica oleracea), and a grass-legume mix (red fescue, Festuca rubra; ryegrass, Lolium perenne); and bean (Vicia faba) were grown in the greenhouse on blast furnace slag or baghouse dust amended with composted peat (CP). All plant species accumulated Pb, Cd and Zn to varying degrees. Total soil metal concentrations had a marked influence on plant uptake. Topdressing versus incorporating CP had a significant (p<0.05) effect on spinach and cabbage tissue metal concentrations. Soil Pb and Zn tended to shift towards less bioavailable forms after treatment with CP. Field plots were treated with CP, farmyard manure (FYM), or inorganic fertilizer. Dry matter production of spinach, cabbage and a grass-legume mix was greatest on either the CP or FYM treatments. Phytostabilization in combination with organic amendments may be the most appropriate technology to ensure stabilization of soil metals at this site.  相似文献

Capture of male lesser peachtree borer, Synanthedon pictipes (Grote & Robinson), and peachtree borer, S. exitiosa (Say) (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae), in pheromone traps positioned from 0 m to 6 m above ground was affected by surrounding tree height. In a peach orchard with a 3 m canopy height, more S. pictipes were captured within the canopy zone at 1.8 m than above at 5.5 m. Trap capture was similar for S. pictipes in a mating disruption orchard with more caught at 2 m than at 4 m or 6 m. Capture at 1.8–5.5 m in mixed deciduous woods, with an average canopy height of 22 m, was not significantly different. In orchards, more S. exitiosa were captured at 1.8 m rather than at 5.5 m but no difference was detected in numbers captured from 0 m to 5.5 m in mixed deciduous woods. In a peach-pecan interplanted orchard, where pecan trees were three times taller but only one-ninth the density of peach, capture of both species was similar to capture in peach orchards when traps were entirely surrounded by peach. However, when traps were adjacent to a single, taller non-host pecan tree, capture was similar to mixed deciduous woods. These data suggest that habitat structure supersedes presence/absence of host plants affecting vertical flight activity of male S. pictipes and S. exitiosa.  相似文献

For control of the Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae), the attract‐and‐kill or attracticide technique is an alternative to the spraying of traditional organophosphate pesticides. In this study, the effectiveness of Ceranock and AAL&K attract‐and‐kill bait stations was assessed for control of C. capitata in Tunisian peach (Prunus persica) orchards. Our results showed that, in orchards with early‐ripening varieties, the numbers of C. capitata males and fruit damage were significantly lower in plots treated with Ceranock and AAL&K bait stations than in plots treated with conventional organophosphate and pyrethroid insecticides. In addition, the abundances of non‐target insects in the Chrysopidae, Coccinellidae and Miridae were significantly greater in plots treated with the bait stations than in plots treated with the conventional pesticides; that is, the use of attract‐and‐kill bait stations had fewer negative effects than the application of conventional pesticides on the biological diversity in Tunisian peach orchards. Overall, the results indicate that Ceranock and AAL&K attract‐and‐kill bait stations are useful alternatives for the control of C. capitata in Tunisian peach orchards planted with early‐ripening varieties.  相似文献

The efficacy of pheromone‐based mating disruption for control of the peachtree borer Synanthedon exitiosa (Say) in small‐scale peach orchards (<0.1 ha) was evaluated in a total of six blocks at two locations in New Mexico, USA, from 2010 to 2015. In treated orchards, commercial pheromone dispensers were deployed at rates of approximately 500 or 600 per ha. Pheromone‐based monitoring traps were installed in each block (treated and untreated), and catches of male moths were recorded throughout each growing season to assess the effectiveness of pheromone treatments and to determine the pest's seasonal flight activity. Levels of larval trunk infestation were assessed twice yearly by inspecting all trees at and below soil level. Infestation levels in an unreplicated block of mature peaches at one site (Los Lunas) declined from 57.5% to 8.4% while under pheromone treatment (2010–2011). Pheromone treatments in this block were discontinued in 2012, and infestation levels subsequently increased to 16.9% by spring 2015. In a replicated study in four other peach blocks at the same site, annual application of pheromones from 2012 to 2014 resulted in a significant difference in larval infestations in treated blocks compared to untreated blocks. In addition, when a single block of infested peaches at a second site (Alcalde) was treated with pheromone dispensers for three consecutive years, trunk infestation levels declined significantly, but were not completely eliminated. These results indicate that mating disruption can help protect even very small orchards from damage by S. exitiosa. However, the technique is likely to be more effective where such orchards are relatively isolated and/or where the surrounding pest pressure is moderate or low.  相似文献

Macaranga peltata (Roxb.) Mull. Arg. is a disturbance tolerant plant species with potential in mine wasteland reclamation. Our study aims at studying the phyto-extraction potential of M. peltata and determining plant-soil interaction factors effecting plant growth in iron ore mine spoils. Plants were grown in pure mine spoil and spoil amended with Farm Yard Manure (FYM) and Vermicompost (VC) along with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) species Rhizophagus irregularis. Pure and amended mine spoils were evaluated for nutrient status. Plant growth parameters and foliar nutrient contents were determined at the end of one year. FYM amendment in spoil significantly increased plant biomass compared to pure mine spoil and VC amended spoil. Foliar Fe accumulation was recorded highest (594.67μg/g) in pure spoil with no mortality but considerably affecting plant growth, thus proving to exhibit phyto-extraction potential. FYM and VC amendments reduced AM colonization (30.4% and 37% resp.) and plants showed a negative mycorrhizal dependency (–30.35 and –39.83 resp.). Soil pH and P levels and, foliar Fe accumulation are major factors determining plant growth in spoil. FYM amendment was found to be superior to VC as a spoil amendment for hastening plant growth and establishment in iron ore mine spoil  相似文献

Beach Ridges Interspersed with Swales (BRIS) is a sandy soil and in Malaysia it is found exclusively in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is a marginal soil because of its low nutrient and water-holding capacity. However, with proper management and organic matter amendments some areas with BRIS soil are cultivated. Napropamide is a selective herbicide widely used to control weeds in BRIS soil. No previous studies have been reported on the effects of organic matter amendments on napropamide sorption in BRIS soil. This study was conducted to determine sorption and desorption of napropamide in BRIS soil amended with chicken dung (CD) and palm oil mill effluent (POME) at 0, 20, 40, and 80 Mg ha?1. Potential interaction of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) with napropamide and their competition for sorption sites were also determined. Sorption isotherm data were fitted to the log-transformed Freundlich's equation. Sorption of napropamide was higher in soils amended with CD and POME as compared to non-amended soil. At the same rates of application, sorption was higher in soil amended with CD than POME. The Freundlich's coefficient (Kf) values were 0.22, 3.96, and 41.6 for nonamended soil, soil amended with 80 Mg ha?1 POME, and soil amended with 80 Mg ha?1 CD, respectively. Desorption of napropamide showed positive hysteresis and the hysteresis were greater with higher rates of CD and POME. There was no association between napropamide and DOC extracted from BRIS soil amended with either CD or POME and also there were no competitions between napropamide and DOC extracted from either CD or POME for sorption sites of the soil samples.  相似文献

An organophosphorus pesticide malathion biodegradation was investigated by using the bacteria Ochrobactrum sp. M1D isolated from a soil sample of peach orchards in Palampur, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh (India). The bacterium was able to utilize malathion as the sole source of carbon and energy. The isolated bacterium was found psychrotolerant and could degrade 100% of 100 mg l−1 malathion in minimal salt medium at 20°C, pH 7·0 within 12 days with no major significant metabolites left at the end of the study. Through GCMS analysis, methyl phosphate, diethyl maleate, and diethyl 2-mercaptosuccinate were detected and identified as the major pathway metabolites. Based on the GCMS profile, three probable degradation pathways were interpreted. The present study is the first report of malathion biodegradation at both the psychrophilic and mesophilic conditions by any psychrotolerant strain and also through multiple degradation pathways. In the future, the strain can be explored to bio-remediate the malathion contaminated soil in the cold climatic region and to utilize the enzymatic systems for advanced biotechnology applications.  相似文献

The microbial dynamics expressed in terms of culturable microbial populations i.e. bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes and Azotobacter were measured after 33 years of continuous application of mineral fertilizers and amendments to an acid alfisol. The bacterial, fungal and Azotobacter populations were maximum in plots treated with mineral fertilizers and FYM (100%NPK+FYM) while actinomycetes population was maximum in mineral fertilizes and lime treated plots (100%NPK+Lime). The bacterial population decreased and fungal population increased with increasing levels of NPK i.e. from 50% to 150%NPK. Bacillus species of bacteria and Gliocladium, Aspergillus and Rhizopus species of fungi were the main dominating culturable microorganisms in all the treatments. The FYM and lime amended plots sustained crop productivity and microbial populations at higher levels than rest of the mineral fertilizer treatments. The nitrogenous fertilizers alone had the most deleterious effect on crop productivity and the biological soil environment.  相似文献

BackgroundPrimary open angle glaucoma (POAG) occurs due to the discrepancies in the angle of anterior chamber characterized by the alterations in intraocular pressure, optic nerves head changes and central loss of visual field. In molecular research, CYP1B1 mutations modulates an integral role in association with glaucoma. Current study was undertaken to reveal the homozygous and heterozygous patterns of CYP1B1 c.1169 G > A variant (rs56010818) in POAG patients of Pakistan.MethodsAfter consent, total n = 88 POAG patients undergone through standard ophthalmological investigations before their recruitment in this study. The blood samples were utilized for DNA isolation. The genotyping of CYP1B1 c.1169 G > A variant was carried out by Sanger sequencing. The mutational patterns and its association with clinical variables were demonstrated by statistical and bioinformatic tools.ResultsIt was evident that the frequencies of heterozygous G/A and homozygous mutants A/A genotypes were higher in males (36.5%, 7.7%) than females (30.6%, 2.8%) of POAG population. Furthermore, the juvenile patients exhibit high manifestation of carrier genotype (66.6%) in comparison to adult patients (31.7%). The results also indicated the significant relationship of intraocular pressure with homozygous mutant A/A genotype of CYP1B1 variant in POAG patients (p < 0.05).ConclusionsOur study provided the mutational data of CYP1B1 R390H variant and the patterns of homozygosity and heterozygosity along with clinical associations. Overall, this study revealed the genetic predisposition of CYP1B1 c.1169 G > A variant in the patients of POAG in Pakistan. The findings could be helpful for genetic screening and in-depth understanding of underlying causes in the pathogenesis of POAG.  相似文献

Degradation of organic matter (OM) from organic amendments used in the remediation of metal contaminated soils leads to changes in soil chemical properties shortly after their addition, which may affect the soil metal distribution. The effects of two differing organic amendments on OM mineralisation and fractionation of heavy metals in a contaminated soil were investigated in an incubation experiment. The treatments were: control unamended soil, soil amended with fresh cow manure, and soil amended with a compost having a high maturity degree. The soil used was characteristic of the mining area at La Unión (Murcia, Spain) with 28% CaCO(3) and sandy-loam texture (pH 7.7; 2602 mg kg(-1)Zn; 1572 mg kg(-1)Pb). Manure and compost C-mineralisation after 56 days (24% and 3.8%, respectively) were below values reported previously for uncontaminated soils. Both amendments favoured Zn and Pb fixation, particularly the manure. Mn solubility increased at the beginning of the experiment due to a pH effect, and only Cu solubility increased through organic matter chelation in both amended soils.  相似文献

Sodic soil remediation is an expensive, lengthy process during which producers need tools to demonstrate that sodium (Na+) remediation practices are improving soil health. The objective of this study was to determine if soil biological indicators can provide a short term assessment of the effectiveness of chemical management strategies used to remediate northern Great Plains sodium affected soils. This randomized complete block split-plot research experiment was conducted in a grassland which was converted to annual row crops. The soil at the site was an Exline (fine, smectitic, frigid Leptic Natrudolls). The experiment contained two drainage treatments (tile drained and no-drainage) and four chemical amendments (4.5 Mg ha−1 of gypsum, 9.1 Mg ha−1 of gypsum, 9.1 Mg ha−1 spent sugar beet lime, and a no amendment control). Base-line soil samples for biological assessment were collected in the fall of 2012 after tile drainage was installed. The sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) ranged from 0.4 to 16.7 with a range of electrical conductivity (EC) of 0.4–0.8 dS m−1. Gypsum and lime amendments were applied in 2013. Soil samples were collected for assessing soil health before and after application of amendments and throughout the growing season. This study utilizes a novel application of successional vector trajectories to compare shifts in measured soil health parameters associated with land use change and remediation of sodicity. Soil samples were analyzed for percent total soil carbon (C), nitrifier and denitrifier gene copies, soil enzyme assays (nitrate reductase, ammonia monooxegenase, urease, β glucosidase, alkaline phosphatase, arylsulfatase and fluorescein diacetate hydrolysis), EC, pH, SAR, and soil texture. Gene copies and enzyme activities were successfully used to differentiate between land uses and amendment applications. Ammonia oxidizing bacterial gene copies were higher where cropland was amended with gypsum. Successional vectors verified a significant shift in soil health due to land use change and amendment application. Gypsum applications reduced SAR, but increased soil EC. This work demonstrates that soil enzyme activities and gene copy numbers can be used to detect improvements in soil health.  相似文献

The 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) degrading pseudomonad, Pseudomonas cepacia DBO1(pRO101), was inoculated at approximately 107 CFU/g into sterile and non-sterile soil amended with 0, 5 or 500 ppm 2,4-D and the survival of the strain was studied for a period of 44 days. In general, the strain survived best in sterile soil. When the sterile soil was amended with 2,4-D, the strain survived at a significantly higher level than in non-amended sterile soil. In non-sterile soil either non-amended or amended with 5 ppm 2,4-D the strain died out, whereas with 500 ppm 2,4-D the strain only declined one order of magnitude through the 44 days. The influence of 0,0.06, 12 and 600 ppm 2,4-D on short-term (48 h) survival of P. cepacia DBO1(pRO101) inoculated to a level of 6×104, 6×106 or 1×108 CFU/g soil was studied in non-sterile soil. Both inoculum level and 2,4-D concentration were found to have a positive influence on numbers of P. cepacia DBO1(pRO101). At 600 ppm 2,4-D growth was significant irrespective of the inoculation level, and at 12 ppm growth was stimulated at the two lowest inocula levels. P. cepacia DBO1(pRO101) was able to survive for 15 months in sterile buffers kept at room temperature. During this starvation, cells shrunk to about one third the volume of exponentially growing cells.Abbreviations AODC acridine orange direct count - CFU colony forming units - PTYG-Agar peptone, tryptone, yeast & glucose agar - TET tetracycline - LB Luria Bertani medium  相似文献

Mushrooms are a rich source of protein and vitamins as human food. In view of the growing importance of mushroom in Pakistan, a research study was initiated with the objective to examine the suitability of Oyster mushroom cultivation and to compare the growth and yield of Oyster mushroom in two different areas (Peshawar and Swat, North-West region of Pakistan) with different ecological conditions. Spawn running time, number of crops, stalk height, stalk diameter, cap size, fresh weight, number of production days, and the interval in days between the time of bag opening and the time of starting fruiting bodies formation were among the important parameters investigated in the current study. Stalk height, stalk diameter, cap size and fresh weight of mushrooms were found higher in Peshawar region as compared to those growing in Swat region. On the other side, the spawn running time, formation of fruiting bodies and the number of productions were higher in Swat region as compared to the mushroom under study in Peshawar region. Mild winter temperatures of Peshawar region, and low summer temperatures in Swat, were found most suitable for growth and yield of Pleurotus ostreatus.  相似文献

Peach is an important stone fruit crop cultivated at commercial scale in Pakistan. While, appropriate selection of rootstock has significant impact on the quality of peach fruit. Therefore, in the current study the influence of three rootstocks viz. ‘GF-677′, ‘Peshawar Local’ and ‘Swat Local’ were evaluated on the quality of ‘Flordaking’ peaches following cold storage during two consecutive years. The fruit from these rootstocks were kept at 0 °C for five weeks were studied for various fruit physical (weight loss, colour, firmness) and biochemical (pH, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), SSC:TA ratio, fruit juice pH, sugars (total, reducing and non-reducing sugars), ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and free radicals scavenging activities) were evaluated. During both years, fruit harvested form trees grafted on ‘GF-677′ exhibited reduced fruit weight loss, changes in Chroma (C*) and highest fruit firmness, Lightness (L*), ascorbic acid contents and radical scavenging activities as compared to fruit harvested from tree grafted on other rootstocks. In conclusion, the post-harvest quality of scion ‘Flordaking’ peach fruit was significantly influenced and best quality can be obtained when it is grafted on ‘GF-677′ rootstock.  相似文献

Applying biochar to agricultural soils has been proposed as a means of sequestering carbon (C) while simultaneously enhancing soil health and agricultural sustainability. However, our understanding of the long‐term effects of biochar and annual versus perennial cropping systems and their interactions on soil properties under field conditions is limited. We quantified changes in soil C concentration and stocks, and other soil properties 6 years after biochar applications to corn (Zea mays L.) and dedicated bioenergy crops on a Midwestern US soil. Treatments were as follows: no‐till continuous corn, Liberty switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.), and low‐diversity prairie grasses, 45% big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), 45% Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans), and 10% sideoats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula), as main plots, and wood biochar (9.3 Mg/ha with 63% total C) and no biochar applications as subplots. Biochar‐amended plots accumulated more C (14.07 Mg soil C/ha vs. 2.25 Mg soil C/ha) than non‐biochar‐amended plots in the 0–30 cm soil depth but other soil properties were not significantly affected by the biochar amendments. The total increase in C stocks in the biochar‐amended plots was nearly twice (14.07 Mg soil C/ha) the amount of C added with biochar 6 years earlier (7.25 Mg biochar C/ha), suggesting a negative priming effect of biochar on formation and/or mineralization of native soil organic C. Dedicated bioenergy crops increased soil C concentration by 79% and improved both aggregation and plant available water in the 0–5 cm soil depth. Biochar did not interact with the cropping systems. Overall, biochar has the potential to increase soil C stocks both directly and through negative priming, but, in this study, it had limited effects on other soil properties after 6 years.  相似文献

Two papaya (Carica papaya L.) seedlings growing in one planting hole often results in angular or non-vertical growth of the trees. Data on trunk angularity, or leaning, (deviation from the vertical line of reference) and white peach scale, Pseudaulacaspis pentagona Targioni-Tozzetti (Hemiptera: Diaspididae), densities on paired papaya trees were collected approximately 1 year after infestation of a papaya field was discovered. Paired trees showed a significantly higher degree of leaning than single trees. White peach scale densities were significantly higher on tree trunks with a greater departure from vertical in paired comparisons. Therefore, paired tree planting practices may facilitate the development of economic infestations of white peach scale populations in papaya orchards.  相似文献
