A preliminary survey of the Chironomidae (Diptera) of Costa Rica, with emphasis on the lotic fauna 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Extensive collections of Chironomidae were made in Costa Rica, Central America, during 1986 and 1987. Fifty-five genera and at least 148 species belonging to the subfamilies Podonominae, Tanypodinae, Orthocladiinae and Chironomidae were found. Chironominae and Orthocladiinae predominated. Only one species of Podonominae was collected. Tanypodinae was represented by many genera, but species richness was low.Cricotopus was the most widespread and diverse genus of Orthocladiinae. Among the Chironominae the generaPolypedilum, Pseudochironomus, Tanytarsus andRheotanytarsus showed high species richness. Several species were collected that could not be assigned to genus. A number of range extensions were recorded for taxa found in the Neotropical region for the first time and for Neotropical taxa recorded outside of South America for the first time. The Costa Rican chironomid fauna consists of cosmopolitan, holarctic and neotropical components. There is probably an endemic Central American chironomid fauna at the species level. 相似文献

Cardiocladius moreloensis sp. n. is described and figured based on adult males collected in Morelos State in Mexico. Males of C. brasiliensis Oliveira, 1949 and C. travassosi Oliveira, 1951 are redescribed and figured based on new material from São Paulo State in Brazil. The generic diagnosis is expanded, and a key to the males of the Neotropical Cardiocladius species is presented.

Drift collections of pupal exuviae from 2nd–5th order streams of the Guanacaste National Park in Northwest Costa Rica and from 3rd–6th order streams of the West African countries of Guinea, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Togo have revealed high community (alpha) and regional (beta) levels of species diversity.Samples have been processed from 13 streams of the Guanacaste N. P. including two, Quebrada Las Yeguitas (2 stations) and Rio Tempisquito, for which year-long series were available. A total of 266 species level taxa have been recognized from these streams and are distributed over the higher taxa as follows: Chironomini-73, Pseudochironomini-4, Tanytarsini-55, Orthocladiinae-92, Macropelopiini-5 and Pentaneurini-37. The two sites on the Q. Las Yeguitas have a combined total of 216 species, and together with R. Tempisquito a total of 238 species. The single richest sample (Q. Las Yeguitas, Orosi station, 1990-Jan.-9) contained 102 species.Samples have been processed from 31 West African Streams which, for the most part, are represented by single samples. A total of 299 species level taxa have been recognized from these streams which are distributed over the higher taxa as follows: Chrinomini-139, Tanytarsini-62, Orthocladiinae-56, Coelotanypodini-2, Macropelopiini-3 and Pentaneurini-37. The single largest collection, containing 175 species, was taken from the Upper Dion River, a 6th order stream in the Upper Niger basin of the Guinean highlands. The compositions of the two regional faunas show similarities in two general features: they are both taxonomically narrow (few subfamilies and tribes) and taxonomically deep (many closely related genera, often with a relatively large number of closely related species). The high alpha diversity values require an ecological explanation, most probably along the axes of resources (time, space and food). The high regional diversities require an historical explanation. It is proposed that great climatic variation during the Pleistocene coupled with great geographic alteration of the connection between North and South America may be responsible for both the taxonomic narrowness and depth seen in the chironomid faunas of West Africa and Costa Rica. 相似文献

The new species Rhopalosiphum chusqueae Pérez Hidalgo & Villalobos Muller, is described from apterous viviparous females caught on Chusquea tomentosa in Cerro de la Muerte (Costa Rica). The identity of the species is supported both by the morphological features and by a molecular phylogenetic analysis based on a fragment of the mitochondrial DNA containing the 5' region of the cytochrome c oxidase 1 (COI) and on the nuclear gene coding for the Elongation factor-1 alpha (EF1α). The taxonomic position of the new species is discussed. An identification key to the Aphidinae species living on plants of Bambusoideae (Poaceae) is presented. 相似文献

Rheocricotopus (Psilocricotopus) calviculus sp. n. and R. (P.) villiculus sp. n. from China are described as male imagines. The species are closely related to the previously described R. (P.) orientalis Wang forming a new group, the orientalis group, which eventually may deserve the rank of subgenus or even genus. The group is distinguished by lacking a humeral pit, numerous sensilla clavata on third palpomere, cuneiform wings, no or few setae on squama, long legs, banded abdomen, very long inferior volsella, gonocoxite with apical extensions, and gonostylus with a median triangular projection. 相似文献

Two new species of chironomid midges (Rheosmittia arcuata n.sp. and Mesocricotopus loticus n.sp.) are recognized. They may easily be missed in collections due to their small size, and difficulty in collecting from the larval microhabitat (sand substrates for R. arcuata n.sp., low order streams with depositional substrates including gravel, sand, and silt for M. loticus n.sp.). Some morphological features are given to distinguish the new species from similar congeneric forms. The distribution and some ecological information for each species are also briefly discussed. 相似文献

Titimbera n. gen. is erected based on the males of three new species from South and Central America: T. amazonica n. sp. from the Amazon region, Brazil; T. titi n. sp. from Venezuela and T. laselvensis n. sp. from Costa Rica. The combination of bare eyes and wing membrane; antenna without strong apical seta; scalpellate acrostichals in mid scutum; costa strongly extended; R4+5 ending opposite to M3+4; Cu1 strongly curved to slightly sinuous; anal point sitting high on tergite IX, nearly parallel-sided with bluntly rounded apex; and club-shaped to subtriangular gonostylus with distinct heel will separate the genus from all other orthoclads. 相似文献

Examination of the lectotype (here designated) reveals that Hagnagora anicata (Felder & Rogenhofer) does not occur in Costa Rica. Instead two new species are described, Hagnagora eliannesp. n. and Hagnagora unniasp. n., and their distribution is discussed. The previous treatment of Hagnagora anicata as a single widespread species ranging from Jamaica and Mexico to Bolivia needs to be critically evaluated. 相似文献

The geographical distribution of the parasitoid species associated with fruit flies in Costa Rica is presented. In a study of 319 fruit samples infested with larvae of fruit flies, collected from 135 localities, 8 parasitoid species were recovered from 11.0% of the fruit samples. Two species are considered to be indigenous, two were introduced for the biological control ofCeratitis capitata (Wiedemann) in this country, at least 3 unidentified species of eucoiline cynipoids and one species of uncertain origin was found for the first time. The identified parasitoids were:Doryctobracon crawfordi (Viereck) (indigenous),D. areolatus (Szépligeti) (indigenous),Biosteres longicaudatus Ashmead (introduced),Aceratoneuromyia indica (Silvestri) (introduced) andTrichopria sp. (indigenous?). The introduced species were more frequently associated withAnastrepha spp. than withC. capitata. The need for systematic monitoring of populations of released parasitoid species is suggested. 相似文献

Sixteen species of Copepoda were recorded in this first detailed study of Costa Rican zooplankton. Two of these species are halophile. Notes are given on some of the species and their distribution. One new species found will be described elsewhere. The Costa Rican fauna resembles in composition the fauna of other Central American and Caribbean regions. Relatively few species were recorded. This is partly due to a low intensity of sampling but also to the paucity of lentic habitats. The occurrence of two circumtropical species of Mesocyclops is interesting.

Aristolochia gorgona (Aristolochiaceae), a new species with giant flowers from Costa Rica and Panama
Mario A. Blanco 《Brittonia》2002,54(1):30-39
Aristolochia gorgona is described from the Atlantic watershed of Costa Rica and central and eastern Panama. It is similar toA. grandiflora Sw., with which it has been confused in the past. The extensive reported synonymy ofA. grandiflora is reviewed and compared with the new entity. Some new terms are proposed for better describing floral structure in this
species complex, and suggestions are made for its collection and study.Aristolochia gorgona is one of the largest-flowered plant species (in terms of perianth area) in the Neotropics.

Sparganocosma docsturnerorum Brown, new genus and new species, is described and illustrated from Área de Conservación (ACG) in northwestern Costa Rica. The new genus shares a long, crescent- or ribbon-shaped signum in the corpus bursae of the female genitalia with Aesiocopa Zeller, 1877, Amorbia Clemens, 1860, Amorbimorpha Kruse, 2011, Coelostathma Clemens, 1860, Lambertiodes Diakonoff, 1959, Paramorbia Powell & Lambert, 1986, Rhynchophyllus Meyrick, 1932, Sparganopseustis Powell & Lambert, 1986, Sparganothina Powell, 1986, and Sparganothoides Lambert & Powell, 1986. Putative autapomorphies for Sparganocosma include the extremely short uncus; the smooth (unspined) transtilla; and the upturned, free, distal rod of the sacculus. Adults of Sparganocosma docsturnerorum have been reared numerous times (>50) from larvae collected feeding on rain forest Asplundia utilis (Oerst.) Harling and Asplundia microphylla (Oerst.) Harling (Cyclanthaceae) at intermediate elevations (375–500 m) in ACG. Whereas most Sparganothini are generalists, typically feeding on two or more plant families, Sparganocosma docsturnerorum appears to be a specialist on Asplundia, at least in ACG. The solitary parasitoid wasp Sphelodon wardae Godoy & Gauld (Ichneumonidae; Banchinae) has been reared only from the larvae of Sparganocosma docsturnerorum. 相似文献
