Adult oribatid mites are thought to live functionally in ‘enemy-free space’ due to numerous morphological and chemical defensive strategies. Most juvenile oribatid mites, however, lack hardened cuticles and are thus thought to be under stronger predation pressure. On the other hand, the majority of oribatids have exocrine oil glands in all developmental stages, possibly rendering chemical defense the crucial survival strategy in juvenile Oribatida. We manipulated tritonymphs of the model oribatid mite Archegozetes longisetosus to completely discharge their oil glands and offered these chemically disarmed specimens to the polyphagous rove beetle Stenus juno. Disarmed specimens were easily consumed. By contrast, specimens with filled oil glands were significantly protected, being rejected by the beetles. This is the first direct evidence that oil gland secretions provide soft-bodied juvenile oribatids with chemical protection against large arthropod predators.  相似文献

Astigmata comprise a diverse group of acariform mite species with a remarkable range of life histories, most of which involve parasitic or commensal relationships with other organisms. Several authors have suggested that Astigmata evolved as a paedomorphic clade from within Oribatida, and both morphology and gland-chemistry strongly suggest that their sister-clade is within the oribatid subgroup Desmonomata. The biologies of these groups contrast greatly, since oribatid mites are mostly soil-living detritivores and fungivores, and have life cycles that are much longer than those in Astigmata. We tested the hypothesis that Astigmata evolved from within Desmonomata using two molecular markers, the ribosomal 18S region (18S) and the nuclear elongation factor 1 alpha (ef1α) gene. Representative acariform mites included 28 species of Oribatida, eight of Astigmata, two of Prostigmata and two of Endeostigmata; outgroups included members of Opilioacariformes, Parasitiformes and Ricinulei. To minimize the possibility of long-branch attraction artifacts, we limited highly variable sites by removing gaps (18S) and third codon positions (ef1α) from the sequences. Maximum parsimony, neighbor-joining and Bayesian algorithms formed trees that consistently placed Astigmata outside monophyletic Oribatida, usually as sister-group of the endeostigmatid mite Alicorhagia sp. Analyses with and without outgroups resulted in similar topologies, showing no evidence for long-branch artifacts and leaving the conflict with morphological and biochemical data unexplained.  相似文献

Most oribatid mites are well known for their exocrine oil gland secretions, from which more than a hundred different chemical components (hydrocarbons, terpenes, aromatics and alkaloids) have been described. The biological functions of these secretions have remained enigmatic for most species, but alarm-pheromonal and allomonal functions have been hypothesized, and demonstrated in some cases. Here, we tested different experimental stimuli to induce the release of defensive secretions in the model oribatid mite Archegozetes longisetosus Aoki. Whereas various mechanical stimuli did not result in a reproducible and complete expulsion of oil gland secretions, repeated treatments with hexane led to complete discharge. Life history parameters such as survival, development and reproduction were not influenced by the hexane treatment. Repeated hexane treatments also resulted in a complete depletion of oil glands in Euphthiracarus cribrarius Berlese.  相似文献

Recent phylogenetic research suggests that Malvaceae s.l. comprises formerly Tiliaceae, Byttneriaceae, Bombacaceae, and Sterculiaceae. Corchoropsis is traditionally included in Tiliaceae or Sterculiaceae and is distributed in China, Korea, and Japan. One to three species have been recognized for this genus. Phylogenetic relationships among the Malvacean taxa have been intensively studied with molecular data, and the evolution of their morphological characteristics has been re-interpreted accordingly. However, no Corchoropsis species have been included for their phylogenetic position. Here, three chloroplast coding regions—rbcL, atpB, and ndhF, from Corchoropsis psilocarpa and Corchoropsis crenata—were amplified and sequenced, then compared with other Malvacean taxa. This analysis of the three plastid gene sequences now places Corchoropsis species in Dombeyoideae, as previously proposed by Takeda (Bull Misc Inform Kew 365, 1912), Tang (Cathaya 4:131–150, 1992), and Bayer and Kubitzki (2003). Within Dombeyoideae, Corchoropsis forms a strongly supported sister relationship with the DombeyaRuizia clade.  相似文献

The multicomponent oil gland secretion of Collohmannia gigantea, a middle-derivative mixonomatan oribatid mite, is demonstrated to possess alarm pheromonal and allomonal properties. Four components of the secretion, namely the monoterpenes neryl formate, neral, geranial and the aromatic 2-hydroxy- 6-methyl-benzaldehyde (2,6-HMBD), showed moderate to strong alarm pheromonal activity in adult mites. Naturally elicited response is due to neral (about 50% of the secretion) and probably 2,6-HMBD (only 5% of the secretion, but strong alarm pheromonal activity). This is the second report of an alarm pheromone in Oribatida. Tridecane and pentadecane (=the hydrocarbon fraction of the secretion) did not evoke evident behavioural reactions, and most likely serve as solvents and spreading agents for the pheromonal-active components. Alarm reactions were characterized by a short recognition phase (waving movements with legs I), followed by shrinking back and panic escape from the scent source. In addition, all six components of the oil gland secretion, including the hydrocarbons, exhibited strong allomonal properties against a model oribatid predator, the scydmaenid beetle, Euconnus (Tetramelus) oblongus. Considering the widespread semiochemical properties of oil gland secretions in astigmatid mites (=a highly derivative oribatid group), these results furnish evidence for a phylogenetically early origin of defensive and communicative roles of oil gland secretions in oribatids. These roles include alarm communication, defence and the production of anti-fungal compounds.  相似文献

Giambattista Brocchi’s (1814) monograph (see Dominici, Evo Edu Outreach, this issue, 2010) on the Tertiary fossils of the Subappenines in Italy—and their relation to the living molluscan fauna—contains a theoretical, transmutational perspective (“Brocchian transmutation”). Unlike Lamarck (1809), Brocchi saw species as discrete and fundamentally stable entities. Explicitly analogizing the births and deaths of species with those of individual organisms (“Brocchi’s analogy”), Brocchi proposed that species have inherent longevities, eventually dying of old age unless driven to extinction by external forces. As for individuals, births and deaths of species are understood to have natural causes; sequences of births and deaths of species produce genealogical lineages of descent, and faunas become increasingly modernized through time. Brocchi calculated that over 50% of his fossil species are still alive in the modern fauna. Brocchi’s work was reviewed by Horner (1816) in Edinburgh. Brocchi’s influence as a transmutational thinker is clear in Jameson’s (1827) “geological illustrations” in his fifth edition of his translation of Cuvier’s Theory of the Earth (read by his student Charles Darwin) and in the anonymous essays of 1826 and 1827 published in the Edinburgh New Philosophical Journal—which also carried a notice of Brocchi’s death in 1827. The notion that new species replace older, extinct ones—in what today would be called an explicitly phylogenetic context—permeates these essays. Herschel’s (1830) discussion of temporal replacement of species and the modernization of faunas closely mirrors these prior discussions. His book, dedicated to the search for natural causes of natural phenomena, was read by Charles Darwin while a student at Cambridge. Darwin’s work on HMS Beagle was in large measure an exploration of replacement patterns of “allied forms” of endemic species in time and in space. His earliest discussions of transmutation, in his essay February 1835, as well as the Red Notebook and the early pages of Notebook B (the latter two written in 1837 back in England), contain Brocchi’s analogy, including the idea of inherent species longevities. Darwin’s first theory of the origin of species was explicitly saltational, invoking geographic isolation as the main cause of the abrupt appearance of new species. We conclude that Darwin was testing the predicted patterns of both Brocchian and Lamarckian transmutation as early as 1832 at the outset of his work on the Beagle.  相似文献

A two-step concerted mechanism for the conversion of methane to methanol catalyzed by soluble methane monooxygenase (sMMO) is discussed. We propose that the enzymatic reaction mechanism is essentially the same as that of the gas-phase methane-methanol conversion by the bare FeO+ complex. In the initial stage of our mechanism, the ferryl (Fe—O) "iron" active site of intermediate Q and substrate methane come into contact to form the initial Q (CH4) complex with an OFe—CH4 bond. The C—H bonds of methane are significantly weakened by the formation of a five-coordinate carbon species, through orbital interactions between a C 3v - or D 2d -distorted methane and the Fe—O active site. The important transition state for an H atom abstraction exhibits a four-centered structure. The generated intermediate involves an HO—Fe—CH3 moiety, and it is then converted into the final product complex including methanol as a ligand through a methyl migration that occurs via a three-centered transition state. The two-step concerted mechanism is consistent with recent experiments on regioselectivity of enzyme-catalyzed alkane hydroxylations. A simple procedure has been described for simultaneous determination and improved yield of three pentacyclic triterpenoids—betulinic, oleanolic, and ursolic acids—from callus cultures of Lantana camara. Cell biomass was obtained from leaf disk explants cultured on Murashige and Skoog (Physiol Plant 15:473–497, 1962) medium supplemented with 5 μM 6-benzylaminopurine, 1 μM 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, and 1 μM α-naphthaleneacetic acid. Optimum separation of the three compounds was achieved by reverse-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography on a C18 column with 80:20 (v/v) acetonitrile/water as mobile phase. With this route, a yield of 3.1% betulinic acid, 1.88% oleanolic acid, and 4.12% ursolic acid per gram dry weight was obtained from cultures. Leaves from the parent plant, used as control, showed total absence of betulinic acid, and the quantities of oleanolic and ursolic acids present in them were only marginally higher than that found in in vitro-raised cultures. Presence of the three compounds was further confirmed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.  相似文献

The essential oils from the aerial parts of catmint (Nepeta meyeri Benth.) were analyzed by hydrodistillation with GC–MS. Fourteen compounds were identified in the yellowish essential oil of the plant, representing more than 99.07% of the oil, of which the major components were found to be 4aα,7α,7aβ-nepetalactone (83.4%) and 4aα,7α,7aα-nepetalactone (8.83%). The oils were characterized by relatively high content of oxygenated monoterpenes, and were tested on the germination and antioxidative systems in early seedlings of seven weed species (Amaranthus retroflexus L., Bromus danthoniae Trin., Bromus intermedius Guss., Chenopodium album L., Cynodon dactylon L., Lactuca serriola L., and Portulaca oleracea L.) and autotoxicity. The essential oil of N. meyeri inhibited seed germination by more than 50% in three weed species (B. danthoniae, B. intermedius, and L. serriola) when applied at a concentration of 0.01%. When the same oils were applied at 0.02% concentration, the inhibition of germination was more than 70% in two weeds (C. album and C. dactylon) and was 100% in four weeds (A. retroflexus, B. danthoniae, B. intermedius, and L. serriola). The essential oils increased CAT activity in all the weed species and decreased SOD activity, except in A. retroflexus. POX activity did not exhibit a revealing situation in the weed species tested. The essential oils increased the level of lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration in all the weeds studied. Our results show that the essential oils of N. meyeri have an important phytotoxic effect on seed germination and, consequently, seedling growth by exhausting antioxidative system of the weeds. The phytotoxic activity of the essential oils may be attributed to their relatively high content of oxygenated monoterpenes, especially 4aα,7α,7aβ-nepetalactone. It can be suggest that the essential oils of N. meyeri have the potential to be used as a bioherbicide.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to analyze the differences in profiles of RNase activities from triticale embryos (Triticosecale, cv. Ugo) between dormant and non-dormant caryopses and to determine the influence of exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) on the activities of these enzymes. The major RNase from the examined tissue was detected following SDS-PAGE, with substrate-based gel assay, described by Yen and Green (Plant Physiol 97:1487–1493, 1991). The activities of enzymes were characterized according to their pH optima, ion dependence, EDTA sensitivity and DNase activity. In embryos with arrested growth (in a natural way by dormancy or artificially by ABA treatment), the activity of two enzymes—24 and 27 kDa—belonging to class I RNases was completely inhibited, whereas that of two other RNases of this family—23 and 25 kDa—was detectable. However, the activity of the class I ribonucleases (enzymes responsible for cellular Pi release) was very low. Moreover, in contrast with non-dormant caryopses, imbibing embryos of dormant or ABA-treated seeds contained 13- and 14-kDa enzymes. These enzymes have not been classified so far, and their specific properties are different from the generally accepted properties of ribonucleolytic enzymes. In addition to the above results, the Pi content in the analyzed samples was determined by the Ames (Methods Enzymol 8:115–118, 1966) method. The results suggest a very low and constant level of inorganic phosphate in dormant samples as well as an evidently decreasing Pi content in embryos under the influence of ABA treatment. The inhibition of the class I RNases activity induced by abscisic acid implies that one of the roles of ABA in seed dormancy may consist in arresting the catabolic release of Pi, which results in retarding the embryo’s growth.  相似文献

Many lizards produce chemical secretions that may be used as pheromones in reproductive behavior, but only a few studies have identified chemical compounds in secretions. By using GC–MS, we found only 20 lipophilic compounds in femoral glands secretion of male lizards, Psammodromus hispanicus. Main compounds were six steroids (mainly cholesterol and campesterol) and seven n-C9 to n-C18 carboxylic acids (especially dodecanoic acid), and minor components were six alcohols between C16 and C29 and squalene. We compared these chemicals with those previously found in secretions of the closely related sister species Psammodromus algirus and other lizard species.  相似文献

The composition of oil gland exudates from two oribatid mites, Trhypochthoniellus sp. and Trhypochthonius japonicus, was studied with reference to the related species Trhypochthoniellus crassus. Trhypochthoniellus sp. contained a mixture of seven compounds; (Z,Z)-6,9-heptadecadiene, geranial, 3-hydroxybenzene-1,2-dicarbaldehyde (γ-acaridial), neryl formate, neral, (Z)-8-heptadecene and geranyl formate in decreasing order of abundance. The profile of the components from T. japonicus consisted of two types depending on the locality of sampling with unknown reason; one possessing a mixture of eight compounds [(Z,E)-farnesal, γ-acaridial, (Z,Z)-6,9-heptadecadiene, (E,E)-farnesal, (Z)-8-heptadecene and geranial in decreasing order] together with two unknown compounds, and the other composed of the same set of compounds together with 2-hydroxy-6-methylbenzaldehyde as the most abundant component. Relative abundance among common components was consistent between the two types of T. japonicus. Profiles of components differed among three species including T. crasus. The phylogenetic relationship between Oribatida and Astigmata was discussed based on secretory compounds commonly distributed between these two suborders. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The morphological and mitochondrial genetic differentiation in the cyprinid genus, Opsariichthys Bleeker (Nederlandsch Tijdschrift voor de Dierkunde 1:187–218, 1863) have been surveyed in Taiwan. Among them, there are three valid species can be recognized in Taiwan including Opsariichthys pachycephalus Günther (1868) distributed in northern and western Taiwan, Opsariichthys evolans (Jordan and Evermann Proc US Nat Mus 25:315–368, 1902) in northern Taiwan and an unnamed species from southern Taiwan described herein as Opsariichthys kaopingensis Chen and Wu, new species which can be well distinguished from the related O. pachycaphalus by their body proportions, scale counts, and specific coloration patterns. We utilized mitochondrial complete D-loop sequence data to infer phylogenetic relationships within a subset of related genera of opsariichthines, and to examine evidence for genetic differentiation in these two sibling species formerly assigned to “Zaccopachycephalus and their genetic relationship with other congeneric species around nearby regions. The clade of O. pachycephalus and O. kaopingensis in genetically were recovered as more closely related to Opsariichthys uncirostris (Temminck and Schlegel 1846) species complex including both O. uncirostris and O. bidens Günther (1868) from Japan and mainland China than to typical Zacco from Japan. This molecular phylogenetic insight strongly supports the assignment for both so-called “Zaccopachycephalus and this new species described herein as the typical monophyletic members of Opsariichthys and the type species of Zacco as Zacco platypus (Temminck and Schlegel 1846) from Japan is sister clade for all species groups in Opsariichthys. Opsariichthys pachycephalus and O. kaopingensis were strongly differentiated by large mitogenetic distances and phylogenetic support from distance and discrete method and Bayesian inference based on complete mtDNA D-loop sequences, with an average mitogenetic divergence of 3.3%, which may suggest that the separation of the two species happened much earlier than the last glacial period. Opsariichthys evolans seems to share the close genetic relationship with O. acutipinnis (Bleeker Nederlandsch Tijdschrift voor de Dierkunde 1:187–218, 1863) from the Yangtsi River basin.  相似文献

Ecdysial cleavage lines of acariform mites (Arachnida, Acari)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Among mites the ancestral ecdysial cleavage line, or line of dehiscence (a), is inferred by outgroup comparison to be prodehiscent: U-shaped, passing around the front of the mite just above the insertions of the appendages, such that the mite ecloses anteriorly. From preserved and living individuals and exuviae, we found prodehiscence (or its slight variations) to be widespread in Acariformes. It appears to be pervasive in endeostigmatic mites, eupodine Prostigmata, and basal taxa in the Oribatida (Enarthronota, Palaeosomata); it is dominant in cleutherengone Prostigmata and is present in at least one anystine family (Caeculidae). Three general modes of dehiscence are considered to be derived within acariform mites. (1) Merodehiscence is a transverse splitting of the dorsal cuticle at or near the juncture of proterosoma and hysterosoma; it evolved separately in thrcc groups of Prostigmata (Tetranychidae, an undefined subgroup within Cheylctidae, and active instars of Parasitengona) and in a genus of Astigmata (Histiogaster). (2) Trarnsdehiscence is a transverse splitting of the dorsal hysterosomal cuticle anterior to the opisthosomal glands; it occurs in middle-derivative oribatid mites (the paraphyletic Desmonomata), and new observations show it to be widespread in Astigmata, lending support to the hypothesis that the latter group evolved from within Desmonomata. (3) Circumdehiscence is a circumferential splitting of the hysterosomal cuticle that may be incomplete anteriorly; it has long been known to characterize the monophyletic oribatid taxon Brachypylina, but it is convergent with a similar dehiscence in an unrelated family, Lohmanniidae. Transdehiscent and circumdehiscent mites eclose posteriorly. Astigmata exhibit the greatest variety of modes of dehiscence, including the three derived modes and a probable reversal to prodehiscence in Algophagidae. Furthermore, heteromorphic deutonymphs (hypopi) may ecdyse differently from other immature instars of the same species.  相似文献

The effects of salinity (sea water at 0 ‰ versus 30 ‰) on gross rates of O2 evolution (J O2) and net rates of CO2 uptake (P N) were measured in the halotolerant estuarine C4 grasses Spartina patens, S. alterniflora, S. densiflora, and Distichlis spicata in controlled growth environments. Under high irradiance, salinity had no significant effect on the intercellular to ambient CO2 concentration ratio (C i/C a). However, during photosynthesis under limiting irradiance, the maximum quantum efficiency of CO2 fixation decreased under salinity across species, suggesting there is increased leakage of the CO2 delivered to the bundle sheath cells by the C4 pump. Growth under salinity did not affect the maximum intrinsic efficiency of photosystem 2, PS2 (FV/FM) in these species, suggesting salinity had no effect on photosynthesis by inactivation of PS2 reaction centers. Under saline conditions and high irradiance, P N was reduced by 75 % in Spartina patens and S. alterniflora, whereas salinity had no effect on P N in S. densiflora or D. spicata. This inhibition of P N in S. patens and S. alterniflora was not due to an effect on stomatal conductance since the ratio of C i/C a did not decrease under saline conditions. In growth with and without salt, P N was saturated at ∼500 μmol(quantum) m−2 s−1 while J O2 continued to increase up to full sunlight, indicating that carbon assimilation was not tightly coupled to photochemistry in these halophytic species. This increase in alternative electron flow under high irradiance might be an inherent function in these halophytes for dissipating excess energy.  相似文献

Described here is a set of three-dimensional (3D) NMR experiments that rely on CACA-TOCSY magnetization transfer via the weak 3 \textJ\textCa\textCa ^{ 3} {\text{J}}_{{{\text{C}}\alpha {\text{C}}\alpha }} coupling. These pulse sequences, which resemble recently described 13C detected CACA-TOCSY (Takeuchi et al. 2010) experiments, are recorded in 1H2O, and use 1H excitation and detection. These experiments require alternate 13C-12C labeling together with perdeuteration, which allows utilizing the small 3 \textJ\textCa\textCa ^{ 3} {\text{J}}_{{{\text{C}}\alpha {\text{C}}\alpha }} scalar coupling that is otherwise masked by the stronger 1JCC couplings in uniformly 13C labeled samples. These new experiments provide a unique assignment ladder-mark that yields bidirectional supra-sequential information and can readily straddle proline residues. Unlike the conventional HNCA experiment, which contains only sequential information to the 1 3 \textCa ^{ 1 3} {\text{C}}^{\alpha } of the preceding residue, the 3D hnCA-TOCSY-caNH experiment can yield sequential correlations to alpha carbons in positions i1, i + 1 and i2. Furthermore, the 3D hNca-TOCSY-caNH and Hnca-TOCSY-caNH experiments, which share the same magnetization pathway but use a different chemical shift encoding, directly couple the 15N-1H spin pair of residue i to adjacent amide protons and nitrogens at positions i2, i1, i + 1 and i + 2, respectively. These new experimental features make protein backbone assignments more robust by reducing the degeneracy problem associated with the conventional 3D NMR experiments.  相似文献

Plastome is thought to be a very conservative part of plant genome but little is known about the evolution of plastome promoters. It was previously shown that one light-regulated promoter (LRPpsbD) is highly conserved in different flowering plant species and in black pine. We have undertaken search and demonstrated that gene ndhF is located in a plastome region that rarely underwent substantial rearrangements in terrestrial plants. However, alignment of sequences upstream ndhF suggests that promoters of this gene underwent comparatively rapid evolution in flowering plants. Probably, the ancestor of two basal Magnoliophyta branches (magnoliids and eudicotyledons) had the promoter PA-ndhF, which was substituted with other promoters—PB-ndhF and PC-ndhF—in some phylogenetic lineages of dicots. We failed to reveal conservative sequences with potential promoters of −10/−35 type upstream ndhF genes of monocotyledonous plants, including nine representatives of the grass family (Poaceae). Multiple alignments of sequences from related taxa showed that the predicted ndhF promoters (A–C) underwent frequent mutations and these mutations are not only nucleotide substitutions but also small insertions and deletions. Thus, we can assume that at least some plastome promoters evolve rapidly.  相似文献

Mucins are the major glycoprotein secretions of mucous glands and display important functions in amphibian skin such as regulation of water homeostasis and mechanical and chemical protection. In the present study, we evaluated the glycoconjugate contents of developing mucous glands on dorsal regions of metamorphosing Bufo viridis (Amphibia: Anura) tadpoles using an alcian blue-PAS panel and lectin histochemistry. All the conical cells of mucous glands showed weak positivity for alcian blue in 0.025 M MgCl2 at pH 5.7 but only a few cells were positive for 0.3 M MgCl2 at the same pH. In addition, all the conical cells of mucous glands were negative for alcian blue at pH 2.5. In lectin histochemistry, conical cells reacted strongly with Galanthus nivalis agglutinin (GNA), Datura stramonium agglutinin (DSA) and peanut agglutinin (PNA), weakly with Maackia amurensis leucoagglutinin (MAL). These results suggest that they express predominantly mannose, galactose and partially α(2→3)-linked sialic acid containing glycoconjugates. We concluded that dorsal mucous glands of metamorphosing Bufo viridis tadpoles contain at least two different conical cell types and glycoconjugate heterogeneity of mucous glands may be related with different functions of mucins.  相似文献

In the cells of Haemanthus albiflos leaf epidermis there are structures containing lipids analogous to “elaioplasts” (Wakker in Jahrb F Wiss Bot 19:423–496, 1888). Ultrastructural analysis has shown that they are cytoplasmic domains—lipotubuloids, since they exhibit all the features of Ornithogalum umbellatum lipotubuloids. They are composed of numerous lipid bodies surrounded by microtubules, ER cisternae and vesicles, some mitochondria, Golgi structures, and microbodies. In the center of some lipotubuloids there are also autolytic vacuoles. Microtubules adjacent to H. albiflos lipid bodies were revealed only when taxol preincubation was used before fixing the epidermis in the mixture of glutaraldehyde and OsO4. The presence of tubulin in H. albiflos and O. umbellatum lipotubuloids was confirmed with use of the immunogold method involving antibodies against tubulin α. It is possible that the association of microtubules with lipid bodies may be more common than originally thought, but it is difficult to reveal due to the methodological problems.  相似文献

A new species of Litomosoides Chandler, 1931 was collected from the abdominal cavity of Oxymycterus nasutus Waterhouse (Rodentia: Cricetidae) in the grassland of the Departamento Rocha, Uruguay. Litomosoides nasuti n. sp. belongs to the ‘sigmodontis group’, and is characterised by: salient amphids; two ventral and one dorsal labial papillae, but no cephalic papillae; a buccal capsule with a transparent anterior segment and an annular asymmetrical thickening; a muscular oesophagus; a bottle-shaped buccal cavity; the male with symmetrically situated cloacal papillae (one pair ad-cloacal and three pairs post-cloacal); phasmids displaced laterally to the longitudinal axis; and microfilariae without terminal nuclei in the tail tip. It resembles five known species; three of which have been recovered from Oxymycterus spp. in neighbouring countries. However, the new species can be differentiated from L. sigmodontis Chandler, 1931 by the shape and size of the buccal capsule; from L. navonae Notarnicola, 2005 by the muscular oesophagus; from L. legerae Bain, Petit & Berteaux, 1980 by the length of the oesophagus and the cephalic papillae; from L. anguyai Notarnicola, Bain & Navone, 2002 by the absence of lappets in the female tail; and from L. oxymycteri Notarnicola, Bain & Navone, 2000 by absence of pre-cloacal papillae. L. legerae from O. quaestor and L. sigmodontis from Sigmodon hispidus in North America are closely related species, as indicated by Brant & Gardner’s phylogenetic tree based on morphological characters. However, a new analysis is needed to include the recently described Argentinean species for a better understanding of the diversification of this genus.  相似文献
