The parakeet (or budgerigar) has been transported to many regions of the world. Two species of feather mites, Protolichus lunula (Robin) (Pterolichoidea: Pterolichidae) and Dubininia melopsittaci n. sp. (Analgoidea: Xolalgidae), are specific to this host; from distribution records, these ectoparasites probably have been distributed worldwide with their hosts.  相似文献

The greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood), (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) was found to disperse the broad mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) (Heterostigmata: Tarsonemidae). Mite presence on whiteflies was highly aggregated. This is the second whitefly species reported to disperse the broad mite, suggesting some recognition of the insects by P. latus.  相似文献

Reconstructing the phylogeographic patterns of widely distributedand common freshwater mussel species (Bivalvia: Unionidae) mayprovide insight into unionid evolution and speciation. The Wabashpigtoe, Fusconaia flava, is currently recognized as a single, polytypic species that is widely distributed and common throughoutthe Mississippi River drainage and parts of the Canadian Interior,Great Lakes and Gulf Coast drainages. Sequence analysis of themitochondrial COI gene revealed two divergent (3.43%) clades.Clade A consisted of specimens located throughout the upperand lower Mississippi River drainage and in the Red River (Canada)and Lake Erie drainages and all F. cerina specimens. All haplotypeswithin clade A differed by three (0.55%) or fewer nucleotidesubstitutions from the most widely distributed and abundanthaplotype, F1. Clade B, consisting of specimens located in thefar western portion of the species' range, may comprise an undescribedspecies. There was no evidence of genetic differentiation amongF. flava inhabiting headwater and intermediate-sized river localitiesof the Muskingum River system and large river localities ofthe nearby Ohio River. The divergence among F. flava haplotypescomprising clade A (0.18–1.10%) was similar to the divergencebetween the F. cerina haplotypes and the F. flava haplotypescomprising clade A (0–1.10%). This study illustrates theimportance of accessing genetic diversity across the distributionof a polytypic species. Additional analyses based on a combinationof morphology and genetics are needed to determine the taxonomicstatus of clade B and to strengthen our understanding of therelationship between F. flava and F. cerina. The chromosome number in the caddis-fly,Glyphotaelius pellucidus (Retz.) is: 2n =60, =59; n =30, =29, 30. The sex determining mechanism is XX-XO, the female being the heterogametic sex. The sex element is heteropycnotic at oogonial prometaphase and at oocyte pachytene. There are no chiasmata at oocyte diakinesis, whereas one or two of these occur per bivalent in the male. The smallest bivalent has a delayed pairing at spermatocyte diakinesis.  相似文献

Abstract  Ambrosia beetles have an obligate relationship with the ambrosia fungi that they feed on. This requires that the beetles have means to transport those fungi when they colonise new hosts. Some ambrosia beetles have special structures called mycangia to transport fungi in. This paper describes the mycangia of the ambrosia beetle Austroplatypus incompertus and illustrates how the mycangical hairs are probably used by the beetle to acquire fungal spores for transport. The mycangia and probable method of fungal acquisition of this species are compared with those of other ambrosia beetles.  相似文献

Efficacy of Diaeretiella rapae (McIntosh) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) was determined by studying its biological and behavioural attributes on the aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae). Total developmental duration of the parasitoid was longer in younger instars compared to that in older instars of aphid. Host age negatively affected the oviposition period and fecundity of the ovipositing parasitoid. Survival of the immatures was higher in older than the younger instars of the aphid. Sex ratio for the parasitoid was female-biased. Longevity of female parasitoid was higher while parasitizing aphid nymphs of younger age groups (1–2 days old) compared to that of older age groups (4–5 days old). Parasitoid showed a higher preference towards second instar of M. persicae both in choice and no-choice tests. Results on mutual interference revealed that per capita searching efficiency decreased from 0.91 to 0.07 as parasitoid densities increased from 1 to 8. Logistic regression exhibited a type II functional response for D. rapae. The estimated values of search-efficiency (a) and handling time (Th) were 0.038 h−1 and 1.59 h, respectively. The maximum parasitization rate was 15.08. This investigation suggests that D. rapae could be an effective candidate for augmentative biological control of M. persicae which infests several plant species of economic importance.  相似文献

Three species in the genus Rhytidelasma Gaud (Pterolichoidea: Pterolichidae) are known from the Green Conure, Aratinga holochlora (Sclater): R. cornigera n. sp., R. urophila n. sp. and R. mesomexicana Atyeo et al. The new species are described, and the microhabitat(s) for each species discussed.  相似文献
