长江口滨岸带河蚬的时空分布特征及其指示作用   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
以长江口滨岸湿地生态系统习见的大型底栖动物河蚬为对象,研究了河蚬种群密度、生物量的时空分布特征,分析了河蚬及环境中悬浮颗粒物和沉积物中的重金属含量.结果表明,不同季节、不同采样点以及相同采样点的不同断面河蚬的分布都有差异.河蚬种群密度、生物量的季节分布趋势是春、秋两季>夏季;其中,浒浦河蚬的年度平均种群密度与平均生物量最高;河蚬在崇明中潮滩的种群密度、生物量高于低潮滩和高潮滩.研究表明,河蚬对沉积物中的重金属元素Cu、Zn富集能力强,对Pb、Cr的富集能力弱,其中,河蚬体内Pb含量与沉积物中Pb含量呈显著负相关(R=-0.924,P<0.01).  相似文献

利用柱状沉积物采样器和Peeper间隙水采集器,分别于夏冬两季获取山东省南四湖不同湖区原位柱状沉积物和间隙水,分析沉积物磷形态和间隙水磷分布特征,探讨沉积物和间隙水磷之间的相关性.结果表明:南四湖沉积物含有较丰富的磷,空间差异性显著,总体呈北高南低的趋势.这与南四湖北部距离济宁市区较近、受污染较重有关.各磷形态组分中以无机磷(IP)含量最高,夏冬两季IP含量分别占总磷(TP)的52.3%~87.2%和60.6%~88.3%.4个湖区表层沉积物TP含量(5 cm内)均呈现夏季>冬季的特征,可能与夏季水产品养殖旺盛、湖区周围耕地大量施用化肥,以及旅游活动频繁等有关.间隙水磷(PO43--P)浓度夏冬两季在垂直方向上均呈先增加后降低的趋势,夏季含量明显高于冬季,说明沉积物中的磷在夏季具有更大的向上覆水释放的潜力.夏季沉积物有机磷(OP)和IP相关性显著,冬季相关性不显著,说明夏季IP与OP间的形态转化较冬季活跃.沉积物铁铝结合态磷(Fe/A1-P)和IP与间隙水磷含量具有显著正相关关系.夏冬两季Peeper法获取间隙水磷的平均含量比传统离心法高出20% ~50%,前者可能更精确.  相似文献

海南东寨港红树林沉积物中重金属的分布及其生物有效性   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
对东寨港红树林湿地沉积物中7种典型重金属元素(Cr、Ni、Cu、Zn、As、Cd 和Pb)的有效态含量和全量进行测定,并讨论了红树林湿地沉积物中重金属元素的分布特征及其生物有效性.结果表明: 7种重金属在东寨港红树林湿地的含量大于亚龙湾和三亚湾的红树林湿地,但与中国南方和世界各地的典型红树林湿地相比仍处于中等偏低水平.东寨港红树林湿地光滩、林缘、林内表层沉积物的重金属含量存在差异;在柱状沉积物中重金属伴随沉积明显,表现出较强的同源性.经EDTA萃取出的有效态金属在表层沉积物中含量依次为Cu>Cr>Zn>Ni>As>Pb>Cd;垂直梯度重金属有效态含量占总量的比例的最大值(除Ni外)均出现在表层或中上层;目标重金属元素有效态和总量在空间分布上具有明显正相关性,元素总量指标能较好地评估该元素的生物有效性  相似文献

以青岛太平湾第二海水浴场(简称“二浴”)和石老人海水浴场(简称“石浴”)沙滩为研究对象,2008年1、4、7、10月采集小型底栖动物样品,开展砂质潮间带的小型底栖动物数量分布和类群组成的季节变化特征研究.结果表明:青岛两个砂质沙滩沉积环境具有显著的季节差异,可分为冬春组(1和4月)和夏秋组(7和10月).二浴小型底栖动物年平均丰度为(1167.3+768.3) ind·10 cm-2,线虫是主要类群,占总丰度的91%.不同潮带的类群组成和丰度分布不均匀,其丰度为高潮带<中潮带<低潮带.且类群组成与丰度具有明显的季节差异,其丰度冬春高、夏秋低,总趋势为春季>冬季>秋季>夏季.二浴高、中潮带的小型底栖动物垂直分布也具有明显的季节变化,小型底栖动物随温度升高向深层移动,冬季集中在表层,夏季向深处迁移.石浴小型底栖动物的年平均丰度为(1130.2±1419.1) ind·10 cm-2,线虫占总丰度的85%,与二浴中潮带沉积环境相似,所支持的小型底栖动物类群组成及数量基本一致,属于相近沙滩.但石浴中潮带小型底栖动物垂直分布随温度的降低呈向下迁移的趋势.ANOVA和BIOENV分析表明,中值粒径和有机质含量是产生小型底栖动物潮带分布差异的主要原因,沉积物间隙水温度、中值粒径、有机质含量是产生丰度季节差异的主要原因,垂直迁移则受沉积物Chl a含量的影响.此外,沙滩人类活动是另一个影响小型底栖动物数量及分布的因素.  相似文献

本文于2007年的7月(夏季)、11月(秋季) 与2008年的1月(冬季)、4月(春季)用高保真、无扰动重力柱状取样器替代常规抓斗式采样,首次系统研究了象山港海域的水样(表层海水和上覆水)及沉积物中细菌丰度的时空分布特征,并采用主成分分析及多元逐步回归分析方法研究了影响细菌丰度时空分布的主要环境因素,结果表明:调查期间象山港海域的细菌的丰度较高,象山港海域的富营养化较严重。调查期间象山港海域水样及沉积物样品中细菌丰度实测值的变化范围为1.50105 ― 9.781010cells/ml (cells/g),总均值为2.76109cells/ml(cells/g);季节分布特征为夏季(7月)极显著高于其他季节,赤潮的暴发导致春季(4月)的调查结果最低。浮游细菌丰度表现为底层均大于表层的垂直分布特征;平面分布特征均为从港顶到港口递减、养殖区高于非养殖区、电厂附近海域出现较高值的趋势,近岸人类的工农业活动造成的陆源污染及海水增养殖活动造成的养殖污染是造成此分布特征的主要原因。多元统计结果表明:溶解氧、水温、营养盐(N、P)、pH以及有机质污染等是影响该海域细菌丰度的最主要因素。  相似文献

惠州市3座供水水库沉积物重金属污染特征   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
为了解惠州市供水水库沉积物重金属(Cr、Cu、Zn、Cd、Pb和Hg)污染状况和垂直分布特征,于2008年5月在惠州市3座具代表性的水库湖泊区采集柱状沉积物样品,运用ICPMS法检测沉积物中重金属含量,并采用地积累指数法(Igen)和潜在生态风险指数法(RI)进行污染评价,同时运用主成分分析(PCA)对沉积物中重金属的可能来源进行分析.结果表明:3座水库沉积物重金属含量随沉积深度的变化差异明显,一些重金属含量的垂直变化不明显,而另一些垂直变化明显(降低或升高),但各种重金属在不同水库沉积物中呈现特有的垂直分布特征.根据地积累指数可知,3座水库中沉积物主要以Zn和Pb污染最为严重,达到轻度至强度污染(含量分别为Zn:49.98 ~ 640.29 mg·kg-1;Pb:21.94~300.66 mg· kg-1),同时沉积物中部或底部受到轻度的Cu污染(含量为16.85 ~45.46 mg·kg-1),基本未受Cr、Cd和Hg污染.据6种重金属潜在生态风险系数[Er(i)]及潜在生态风险指数(RI)可知,3座水库沉积物的重金属潜在风险均处于较低水平.据PCA分析和相关资料可知,矿山开采与冶炼、城市化和农林业快速发展等人类活动影响了3座水库沉积物重金属的分布特征和污染.其中,Zn主要来源于矿产开采与冶炼;除矿产开采与冶炼导致沙田水库Pb污染外,机动车尾气排放和生活垃圾等是3座水库沉积物Pb污染的主要途径;Cu污染主要来源于农业和林业污染.  相似文献

采集了泉州湾红树林湿地表层沉积物样品,测定了沉积物中不同形态汞的含量,研究了汞的分布特征、赋存形态及其生物有效性.泉州湾红树林湿地表层沉积物中总汞含量范围0.03~0.22 mg·kg-1,除14#采样点外,其余各采样点均符合海洋沉积物质量(GB 18668-2002) Ⅰ类标准;沉积物中不同形态汞占总汞的比例为可氧化态(84.0%)>残渣态(14.0%)>可还原态(1.8%)>弱酸溶态(0.2%);沉积物中汞的生物有效性较高,对红树林生态系统存在一定的潜在危害.  相似文献

为揭示河口埋栖性双壳贝类优势种类在水层——底栖系统中的生态耦合作用,利用生物沉积物捕集器和封闭式代谢瓶,于双台子河口现场研究了文蛤主要生理生态过程如生物沉积速率、耗氧率、排氨率和排磷率的季节变化。结果表明,文蛤的生物沉积速率、耗氧率、排氨率及排磷率均具有明显的季节变化:夏季最高,冬季最低。二龄及三龄文蛤个体的生物沉积速率周年变化分别为0.02—0.30 g-1个-1d-1、0.06—0.60 g-1个-1d-1;耗氧率变化分别为0.45—16.64 mg-1个-1d-1、1.03—30.51 mg-1个-1d-1;排氨率季节变化分别为0.001—0.14 mg-1个-1d-1、0.002—0.28 mg-1个-1d-1;排磷率季节变化分别为0.002—0.069 mg-1个-1d-1、0.003—0.16 mg-1个-1d-1。文蛤的生物沉积速率及呼吸排泄速率均受龄期制约:在同一季节,文蛤的单位个体生物沉积速率及呼吸和排泄速率均表现为二龄三龄。方差分析显示,季节、龄期及两者交互作用对文蛤生物沉积速率、耗氧率、排氨率及排磷率均有显著影响。基于不同季节双台子河口文蛤生物量(0.67个/m2、2.4 g/m2),估算出文蛤种群每年向该河口排放大约5321.90 t生物沉积物(干重)、1.43 t NH+4-N和0.93 t PO3-4-P,并且消耗大约221.59 t O2。研究结果表明,文蛤通过生物沉积及呼吸排泄作用,大大加强了双台子河口沉积物-水界面的物质交换通量,在双台子河口水层-底栖系统耦合作用中扮演着重要生态角色。  相似文献

分别于2007年的7月(夏季)、11月(秋季)与2008年的1月(冬季)、4月(春季)采用高保真、无扰动重力柱状取样器替代常规抓斗式采样,研究了象山港海域表层海水、上覆水及沉积物中N素转化细菌(硝化细菌与反硝化细菌)丰度的时空分布特征,并采用主成分分析及多元逐步回归分析方法研究了影响该海域N素转化细菌时空分布的主要因素.调查期间,象山港海域水样和沉积物样品中N素转化细菌数量的变化范围分别为30×104~2.4×104 cells·ml-1和30×104~2.4×104 cells·g-1.表层海水、上覆水和沉积物中的硝化细菌数量均值分别2.24×103cells·ml-1、3.61×103 cells·ml-1和6.45×103 cells·g-1,表层海水、上覆水和沉积物中的反硝化细菌数量均值分别为4.84×103 cells·ml-1、5.31×103 cells·ml-1和3.12×103 cells·g-1.表层海水和上覆水硝化细菌数量均值冬季明显高于其他季节,而沉积物中硝化细菌数量均值为秋季、冬季高于其他季节;冬季、春季的反硝化细菌数量高于秋季、夏季.调查期间,象山港海域的硝化细菌及反硝化细菌的空间分布特征明显:垂直分布特征,反硝化细菌表现为表层海水高于上覆水及沉积物,而硝化细菌则表现为沉积物及上覆水高于表层海水;平面分布特征,象山港中部及支港与主港交汇处的站点N素转化细菌数量较高,近岸工农业活动造成的陆源污染及海水增养殖活动造成的养殖污染是造成此空间分布特征的主要因为.多元统计分析表明,N、P营养盐、DO、水温、盐度、有机质污染及初级生产力等是影响象山港海域N素转化细菌分布的主要因素.  相似文献

通过采集北里湖不同季节的柱状芯样,在实验室静态模拟沉积物氨氮(NH+4-N)和可溶解性磷酸盐(PO3-4-P)的释放,同时研究了沉积物间隙水中NH+4-N及PO3-4-P的垂直分布特征.结果表明,沉积物间隙水NH+4-N随深度的增加有上升的趋势,PO3-4-P随深度的增加呈先升后降的趋势.氮、磷营养盐在沉积物—水界面均存在浓度梯度,表明存在自间隙水向上覆水扩散的趋势.沉积物NH+4-N在春季、夏季、秋季、冬季的释放速率分别为0.074 mg·m-2· d-1、0.340mg· m-2· d-1、0.087 mg· m-2· d-1、0.0004 mg·m-2·d-1,pO3-4-P的释放速率则分别为0.340 mg·m-2·d-1、0.518 mg·m-2·d-1、0.094 mg·m-2·d-1、-0.037 mg· m-2·d-1.不同采样点表现出明显的季节和空间差异性,释放速率表现为夏季>春季、秋季>冬季.根据静态模拟出的不同季节下内源氮、磷释放速率计算,全湖内源氮、磷营养盐的贡献分别为0.0037、0.0057t/a.该研究可为北里湖富营养化及内源污染的治理提供基础数据.  相似文献

The pathological condition of the short-neck clam Ruditapes philippinarum was surveyed along the coast of Kumamoto, Japan, in June 2004. DNA sequences of the non-transcribed spacer region and internal transcribed spacer region flanking 5.8S rRNA identified Perkinsus olseni among the clams. Ray’s fluid thioglycollate medium assay indicated that 96.7% of the clams surveyed from the Kiguchi River tidal flat (native clams, Stn KR-N) and 96.7% of the clams surveyed from the Midori River tidal flat (Stn MR) were infected with P. olseni with an infection intensity of 464,278 and 199,937 Perkinsus cells/gram tissue wet weight (gWW), respectively. In contrast, 66.7% of the clams imported from China and stored along the Kiguchi River tidal flat (Stn KR-I) and 20.2% of clams from the Arao tidal flat (Stn AT) were infected with P. olseni with an infection intensity of 37,547 and 3382 Perkinsus cells/gWW, respectively. Brown ring disease was detected in the clam population from Stn KR-I at a prevalence of 90.0%. Polymerase chain reaction and the 16S rRNA sequence suggested that the agents of brown ring disease observed at Stn KR-I were Vibrio tapetis-like bacteria. Sporocysts and metacercariae of unidentified trematodes were also observed in the gonads and mantle of the clams from Stn KR-I, Stn MR, and Stn AT, at prevalences of 7.1-42.9%. Metacestodes (larval tapeworms) were found in the foot and digestive gland at a prevalence of 52.5%, 30.0%, and 14.3% in clams from Stns MR, AT, and KR-N, respectively. Histology also showed massive hemocyte infiltration and inflammation among clams heavily infected with P. olseni. Castration of the follicle was typical among clams infected with the trematode. The data indicate that most of the clams along the coast of Kumamoto are infected with various pathogens at various rates of infection, and these pathogens could have negative effects on the clam population in the long term.  相似文献

Summary A petroleum-degrading bacterial strain Acinetobacter sp. SG06-02 in the oil-polluted intestine of shellfish clam was previously isolated in our laboratory. In this study, the effectiveness of using its cleaning performance on petroleum pollution was investigated. The accumulation of petroleum in the intestine of Ruditapes philippinarum was determined by a UV spectrophotometer. The survival and growth of the SG06-02 strain in the intestine of Ruditapes philippinarum after oil pollution were examined. The concentration of oil accumulated in the Ruditapes philippinarum intestine quickly rises to 254.97 mg/kg within 12 h after placing the clam in the petroleum-polluted seawater tank. After decontaminating using Acinetaobacter we found that the concentration of petroleum inside the Ruditapes philippinarum declined significantly. The results of the cleaning experiments showed that the degradation activity by using bioremediation method of the strain SG06-02 increased 12.8∼30.2% compared to using clean seawater in 4 days. This research indicated that the petroleum degrading bacteria could survive and was effective in cleaning oily pollutants in the seashell.  相似文献

Abstract Successful stimulation of N2 fixation and petroleum hydrocarbon degradation in indigenous microbial consortia may decrease exogenous N requirements and reduce environmental impacts of bioremediation following petroleum pollution. This study explored the biodegradation of petroleum pollution by indigenous N2 fixing marine microbial consortia. Particulate organic carbon (POC) in the form of ground, sterile corn-slash (post-harvest leaves and stems) was added to diesel fuel amended coastal water samples to stimulate biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons by native microorganisms capable of supplying a portion of their own N. It was hypothesized that addition of POC to petroleum amended water samples from N-limited coastal waters would promote the growth of N2 fixing consortia and enhance biodegradation of petroleum. Manipulative experiments were conducted using samples from coastal waters (marinas and less polluted control site) to determine the effects of POC amendment on biodegradation of petroleum pollution by native microbial consortia. Structure and function of the microbial consortia were determined by measurement of N2 fixation (acetylene reduction), hydrocarbon biodegradation (14C hexadecane mineralization), bacterial biomass (AODC), number of hydrocarbon degrading bacteria (MPN), and bacterial productivity (3H-thymidine incorporation). Throughout this study there was a consistent enhancement of petroleum hydrocarbon degradation in response to the addition of POC. Stimulation of diesel fuel biodegradation following the addition of POC was likely attributable to increases in bacterial N2 fixation, diesel fuel bioavailability, bacterial biomass, and metabolic activity. Toxicity of the bulk phase water did not appear to be a factor affecting biodegradation of diesel fuel following POC addition. These results indicate that the addition of POC to diesel-fuel-polluted systems stimulated indigenous N2 fixing microbial consortia to degrade petroleum hydrocarbons. Coastal ecosystem modifications have contributed to the spread of introduced species through alterations of historic disturbance regimes and resource availability, and increased propagule pressure. Frequency of occurrence of the Manila clam (Venerupis phillipinarum, Veneridae) in Southern California estuaries has increased from absent or sparse to common since the mid-1990s. Potential invasion vectors include seafood sales and aquaculture, and spread from established northern populations over decades. The clam’s post-settlement habitat preferences are, however, uncertain in this region. Our project aimed to identify factors associated with established patches of the clam within a bay toward the southern end of this introduced range. During summer 2013, we sampled 10 tidal flat sites in Mission Bay, San Diego; each containing an area with and without hard structure (e.g., riprap, boulders). We measured likely environmental influences (e.g., sediment variables, distance to ocean). Manila clam densities across the bay were most strongly associated with site, where highest densities were located in the northern and/or back halves of the bay; and weakly correlated with lower porewater salinities. Within sites, Manila clam density was enhanced in the presence of hard structure in most sites. Prevailing currents and salinity regimes likely contribute to bay wide distributions, while hard structures may provide suitable microhabitats (refuge from predators and physical stress) and larval entrapment within sites. Results provide insights into decisions about future shoreline management efforts. Finally, we identify directions for future study to better understand and therefore predict patterns of establishment of the Manila clam in the southern portion of its introduced range.  相似文献

This study employed simulated spills of weathered diesel fuel and measured the initial effects on the intertidal sand flat microphytobenthic (MPB) communities. The goals were to examine the impacts of short-term (hours) and longer-term (days) exposure to petroleum on the native sand flat MPB in coastal North Carolina and to assess recovery of the community following the exposure. We assessed changes in biomass (chlorophyll a), primary productivity (14C bicarbonate incorporation), photophysiology (P vs. I curves) and species composition (microscopy) and compared diesel exposed samples to unamended controls. We found that short-term impacts of diesel fuel pollution were confined to primary productivity and photophysiology of sand flat MPB. Short-term effects were only detected at relatively high concentrations that are not common outside of a major spill event. In the longer term, diesel fuel was again found to have effects on primary productivity, but at higher concentrations than would be likely to occur in industrialized coastal areas. However, negative impacts on photophysiology were detected at diesel fuel concentrations slightly above typical ambient conditions in coastal waters in industrialized areas. Biomass as measured by chlorophyll a was not affected by any concentration in the longer-term exposure to diesel fuel. Cell counts in the longer-term experiments found cyanobacteria had larger negative impacts from diesel fuel exposure than did diatoms. The recovery portion of this study showed the sand flat MPB communities were fairly resilient following both additions of diesel fuel. However, photophysiology and cell counts did not return to conditions equivalent to the control. Data from this study indicate that the effects of petroleum pollution on the MPB community of tidal sand flats should be considered alongside effects on other coastal microalgae in ecological and damage assessments.  相似文献

Based on the investigation data from 48 sampling stations in the sea area of Jiaozhou Bay wetland in 2009, and by using Nemerow index, eutrophication index (EI), and Hakanson potential ecological risk index, an assessment was conducted on the environmental quality of water body and surface sediment in the sea area. According to the assessment on the 16 indicators including pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved inorganic phosphorous (DIP), chemical oxygen demand (COD(Mn)), petroleum hydrocarbons, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Hg, As, hexachlorocyolohexane (HCH), dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), coliform, and faecal coliform, the water quality was at moderate and serious pollution level in the tidal reach of Dagu River, at slight and moderate pollution level in the intertidal zone, and at slight pollution level in the shallow sea. The eutrophication level differed markedly with the regions, being very serious in the tidal reach of Dagu River (EI value 58.13-327.89), serious in the intertidal zone (EI value 1.34-19.96), and slight in the shallow sea (EI value 0.65-2.10). The surface sediments in the sea area were basically at slight pollution level. The sediment quality was at slight pollution level in the tidal reach of Dagu River, at slight and moderate pollution level in the intertidal zone, and at cleaner and slight pollution level in the shallow sea. The pollution parameter (C(f)(i)) and contamination index (Cd) of the heavy metals in the surface sediments were low, suggesting that the pollution degree was at a lower level. The Cu and Zn were the primary pollution factors in the sediments. The potential ecological risk parameter (E(r)(i)) and risk index (RI) of the heavy metals in the surface sediments were lower, indicating a slight ecological risk of heavy metals pollution.  相似文献

Throughout their range, giant clams (family Tridacnidae) are increasingly threatened by anthropogenic impacts and natural disasters, but little is known about their population status. In this first assessment of the tridacnid population at Abu Sauatir in the northern Red Sea, a total of 491 m2 were surveyed and >200 clams recorded. Tridacna maxima was the only species found. The population's live:dead ratio was 3:1. Overall clam density was 0.08?±?0.008 live and 0.02?±?0.007 dead individuals per 0.25 m2. Greatest densities occurred on the reef flat in 1 m depth (live), and on the northern reef slope in deeper waters (dead). On the slope, live clam density decreased significantly, whereas dead clam density increased significantly with depth. Sizes of live and dead individuals differed significantly. Live clams ranged from 1 to 30 cm (median 5 cm). Juveniles ≤2 cm (8.2% of the population) and individuals >11 cm occurred on the reef slope but not on the reef flat. Live clam sizes did not differ significantly between reef sites. Dead clam size ranged from 2 to 15 cm (median 6.5 cm). 2.1% of the empty shells were ≤2 cm long. Dead clam sizes differed significantly between 5 and 10 m depth on the northern reef slope. 【目的】挖掘高效烷烃降解菌,为后续石油烃污染修复工程提供优良菌种资源。【方法】以正十六烷为唯一碳源,将大庆石油污染土样中分离筛选到的高效烷烃降解菌经形态观察、生理生化试验、细胞化学组分及16SrRNA基因序列分析等方法进行初步鉴定与系统分类;同时通过单因素试验研究环境因素(温度、pH、接种量和转速)以及不同初始浓度的正十六烷(0.1%、0.3%、0.5%、1.0%、1.5%、2.0%,体积比)对菌株降解效率的影响。【结果】筛选到一株高效烷烃降解菌LAM1007,经初步鉴定该菌株为不动杆菌属(Acinetobacter)。该菌株在添加正十六烷的无机盐培养基中的最适降解条件为:30°C,pH 7.0,接种量1%(体积比),转速180 r/min,在该条件下浓度为0.3%(体积比)的正十六烷60 h内降解率高达90%。【结论】菌株LAM1007是一株在石油烃污染修复方面极具应用潜力的高效烷烃降解菌。  相似文献

Distribution of benthic communities in the estuarine portion of the James River was controlled mainly by salinity. Pollution effects were localized and difficult to assess because of a rigorous physical environment. Mesohaline and oligohaline communities were very similar to those in other estuaries of the eastern United States. Macrobenthic densities were most severely depressed in tidal freshwater habitats near Richmond & Hopewell, where the major portion of the pollution load enters the river. Cluster analysis of species distributional patterns and ordination of pollution and physical parameters produced similar results, dividing the river into mesohaline, oligohaline, and upper and lower tidal freshwater zones. Further analysis of only the tidal freshwater portion indicated the distribution of benthic communities reflected the location and concentration of pollution sources along the river. Tidal freshwater communities were dominated by the Asiatic clam, Corbicula fluminea, tubificid oligochaetes of the genus Limnodrilus and the chironomid insect larva Coelotanypus scapularis. The fauna of the freshwater zones was very eurytopic with respect to sediment type and has a great resemblance to the fauna of eutrophic lakes. The classical concept of a sharp increase in number of species occurring from oligohaline to freshwater zones was found to be misleading. This increase does not occur until free flowing (or lotic) freshwater areas of greater habitat diversity are reached.  相似文献
