First late Tremadocian (Early Ordovician) ostracodes were found in cherts of the Burubaital Formation near the “Burultas” deposit in southern Kazakhstan. The preservation of carbonate ostracode shellshells in siliceous environment is discussed. The monotypic ostracode assemblage includes the newly described form, Burultalina nikitinae gen. et sp. nov.  相似文献

Qualitative and quantitative benthic samples were collected monthly between December 1986 and December 1987 from several stations at various depths and basins in the karstic Lake Banyoles (Catalonia, Spain), to study the spatial distribution and seasonality of ostracodes. A total of eight ostracode species were found in the lake. Of these, Candona neglecta Sars, Isocypris beauchampi Paris and Cypria ophtalmica Jurine were the most common ostracodes at all depth stations. Darwinula stevensoni Brady & Robertson, Ilyocypris species (I. bradyi Sars and I. gibba (Ramdohr)), Cyprideis torosa (Jones) and Cyclocypris ovum Jurine, on the other hand, were confined to sublittoral and littoral areas of the lake.Substrate and organic matter content appeared to be relevant factors determining the distribution of ostracode species at the different stations. The highest abundance of ostracodes were in the sublittoral (Basin IV–7 m and Basin I-5 m) where the substrate was coarse and sediment had a high organic matter content (>35% LOI). Low oxygen levels in the hypolimnetic waters (i.e. < 1 mg l–1) may explain the absence of ostracodes at deeper zones in stations where the anoxic period lasts more than four months. On the other hand, low temperatures seem to favour the development of C. neglecta and D. stevensoni, while with higher temperatures I. beauchampi, C. torosa and C. ovum increased their abundances. However, no clear pattern can be observed, so ostracode species in Lake Banyoles, apparently, have non-seasonal life histories.  相似文献

Relations between modern ostracode assemblages and environmental variables from lakes in the southwest Yukon and northern British Columbia were explored. A total of 29 freshwater species representing 8 genera were identified from the sediments of 36 lakes, with the number of species ranging between 3 and 8 per lake. Species widespread throughout the study area include Cyclocypris ampla, Candona candida, Cypria turneri, Cypria ophtalmica, and Candona protzi. The Mg/Ca ratio is an important factor determining the ostracode species composition of a lake. Species richness is at a maximum when the lake water has intermediate values of conductivity. Lakes in which one species clearly dominates the assemblage (‰>‰70% relative abundance) have water saturated with respect to CaCO3. Mg/Ca ratio, depth and Sr are the environmental factors that are most highly correlated with species distributions in this region.  相似文献

Andersson, A. 1980. The fine structure of a sensory organ of a cladocop ostracode (Crustacea) belonging to the organ of Bellonci (sensory pore) complex. (Department of Zoology, University of Lund, Sweden.) — Acta zool. (Stockh.) 61(1): 51–58. The organ of Bellonci, a complex of cephalic receptors, has previously been reported from two ostracode groups. On morphologic grounds, a cephalic receptor of a third ostracode group (Cladocopa) is believed to be an organ of Bellonci. The organ is situated on the forehead above the first pair of antennae and consists of two feathered hairs. Two nerves, each formed by one dendrite, run from the protocerebrum into the hairs where they terminate with ramose cilia. The dendrites, as well as the cilia and ciliary branches, are enveloped by glial cells. Distally, these cells form cavities around the ciliary branches. The ciliated neuronal connection and the glial cavities, together with other morphologic characteristics of the organ, support a homologization with the organ of Bellonci of other myodocopid ostracodes.  相似文献

Lower Callovian deposits (subpatruus and koenigi ammonite zones) in the Mikhailovskii Mine section (Central Russia, Kursk Region) yielded 13 ostracode species (two of them are new) belonging to ten genera. This ostracode assemblage corresponds to ostracode beds with Praeschuleridea wartae-Pleurocythere kurskensis. The stratigraphic range of these beds corresponds to three ammonite biohorizons: Chamoussetia crobyloides, Kepplerites gowerianus gowerianus, and K. indigestus. Three distinct ostracode assemblages have been defined in the section based on their taxonomy and occurrence pattern. Two new species, Pleurocythere kurskensis sp. nov. and Pseudohutsonia wienholzae sp. nov., are described.  相似文献

Rocky intertidal algae harbor a diverse invertebrate meiofauna of arthropods, nematodes and other invertebrates. Despite its ecological importance, relatively little is known about the diversity and composition of this important component of intertidal biodiversity. In this study, we quantified species composition, abundance and distribution of ostracodes, an important group of phytal meiofauna, at two different intertidal areas in southern California. In total, we recovered 22 ostracode species from three different orders (16 podocopids, five myodocopids and one platycopid), nearly a quarter of which could not be assigned to existing taxa. The abundance of ostracodes differed significantly among algal types, with structurally complex algae bearing many more ostracodes per gram of algae than simple forms (blade-like algae and the surfgrass Phyllospadix). Although most ostracode species were recovered from multiple kinds of algae, different algae harbored distinct assemblages that could be discriminated statistically on the basis of relative abundances of ostracode species. This segregation of the ostracode fauna according to algal species is evident even over very short spatial scales (<1 m). Finally, ostracode samples from turf-forming algae were more species rich than samples from other kinds of macroalgae. Since turf-forming algae are easily damaged by human trampling, this component of ostracode biodiversity may be particularly vulnerable to anthropogenic impacts on the intertidal habitat. Ostracodes from the Tuloi (Floian, Dapingian and the lower Darriwilian) and Karasu (Darriwilian and Sandbian) formations of the northeastern Gorny Altai are discussed and several ostracode localities are briefly described. Most existing studies of lacustrine ostracodes have been focused on species composition, and little attention has been paid to population structure. In this study, 39 surface-sediment samples from Hulun Lake, Inner Mongolia, were analyzed for ostracode species composition and 17 of them also for population structure of Limnocythere inopinata, which is the dominant ostracode in the lake. A total of nine ostracode species were recovered, most of which show high abundances at sites with rich plant detritus, implying the possible control of food supply on ostracode species occurrence in the lake. On the other hand, both the subfossil and the living populations of L. inopinata have greater numbers of early instars in deeper waters, while middle and late instars occur mostly in shallower waters, which is related to the grainsize composition of the substrate, denoting a hydraulic control on population structure. Pre- and post-mortem transport of ostracodes may be responsible for the observed within-lake changes in the population structure, although other factors such as migration, intrinsic population dynamics, and life cycle could also be involved. Our data provide insights into the interpretation of lake conditions when using ostracodes in paleolimnological research of lakes with similar natural settings.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the lithostratigraphic features and the ostracode associations of the Tortonian deposits located in the western and central sectors of the Guadalquivir basin (S Spain). Eight facies associations are defined (FA-1 to FA-8), being deposited in fluvial to upper bathyal paleoenvironments. The ostracofaune confirms the Tortonian age of these deposits, where three ostracode associations are defined: (a) infralittoral (i.e. Urocythereis favosa, Cytheretta orthezensis, Callistocythere spp.); (b) circalittoral (i.e. Costa batei, Celtia quadridentata, Echinocythereis scabra, Pterygocythereis ceratoptera/jonesii); and (c) outer platform/talus (Henryhowella asperima; Cytherella spp.; Krithe spp.). A comparison with the Tortonian associations of southwestern France and Portugal permits to define a common ostracod zonation for southwestern Europe for this period.  相似文献

The evolutionary issues of taxonomic significance of the shell sculpture in Ostracoda are addressed. This is a comparative ontogenetic study of three types of lateral sculpture (fossa-mural reticulation, punctation, and foveolation), as well as flanges, ridges, and tubercles is made in different age stages and morphological variations of three ostracode species with different strengths of the expression of sculpture: Hemicythere borealis (Brady, 1868), H. villosa (Sars, 1866), and H. nana (Schornikov, 1974). It is shown that the development of each sculpture type proceeds relatively independently and represents a mosaic; developmental stages are accompanied by numerous heterochronies. This results in many parallelisms, and even the trend of the evolution of a structure can change. The pathways of morphological evolution of Hemicythere species are discussed.  相似文献

New data are provided on the ostracode fauna of the Middle Neopleistocene to Holocene of the southeastern West Siberian Plain. Several species are recorded for the first time in the West Siberian Plain: Fabaeformiscandona aff. hyalina (Brady et Robertson), F. harmsworthi Scott, F. holzkampfi Hartwig, Pseudocandona insculpta Müller, Candona weltneri Hartwig, C. inaequivalvis Sars, and C. muelleri jacutica Pietrzeniuk. New evidence is presented on the distribution of the species Pseudocandona stagnalis Sars, Eucypris pigra (Fischer), Dolerocypris fasciata Fischer, Cyclocypris ovum Müller, and C. triangula Negadaev. New species, Candona kazminae sp. nov. and Ilyocypris pustulata sp. nov., are described. The study resulted in establishing the Late Karginian ostracode association.  相似文献

It remains unclear why the majority of parthenogenetic lineages persist for only brief periods of evolutionary time. However, by characterizing their patterns of genetic variation, it is possible to gain insights regarding their evolutionary origin and potential. We examined clonal diversity patterns in high arctic populations of freshwater ostracodes with the goal of clarifying the factors promoting genotypic diversity. Allozyme electrophoresis showed that the three dominant ostracode species in high arctic ponds reproduce via apomictic parthenogenesis that two of these species (Prionocypris glacialis, Candona rectangulata) were both highly clonally diverse, and had allozyme phenotypes suggestive of polyploidy. Scanning microdensitometry confirmed that many clones of P. glacialis at Igloolik were polyploid. In contrast to most other polyploids, clones of P. glacialis seem to be autopolyploids. Although clonal variation in P. glacialis may reflect multiple transitions to parthenogenesis in an undetected sexual population, it seems likely that genomic recombination associated with polyploidy has also played a role in generating local diversity following the transition to parthenogenesis.  相似文献

Prior allozyme studies have indicated that populations of the asexual ostracode, Cypridopsis vidua (Müller), show extraordinary clonal diversity. Based on a joint examination of allozyme variation and sequence divergence at the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene, the present analysis provides new insights concerning the origins of this variation. The results establish that populations of C. vidua in one recently deglaciated region of North America are not only allozymically diverse, but also include several divergent mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) lineages. The extent of sequence divergence among these lineages is so large as to suggest their diversification over the past 7–8 million years. The patterning of genetic divergence among co-occurring clones makes it apparent that much of the mtDNA and allozyme diversity in local populations owes its origins to recurrent colonization events. However, in situ mutational diversification also appears to explain some variation. The mechanisms enabling the sustained coexistence of such a large array of closely allied genotypes remain unclear, but there is an apparent difference in equilibrium diversity between benthic and planktonic asexual organisms.  相似文献

The genetic basis of plant tolerance to parasites is poorly understood. We have previously shown that tolerance of Arabidopsis thaliana to its pathogen cucumber mosaic virus is achieved through changes in host life-history traits on infection that result in delaying flowering and reallocating resources from vegetative growth to reproduction. In this system we analyse here genetic determinants of tolerance using a recombinant inbred line family derived from a cross of two accessions with extreme phenotypes. Three major quantitative trait loci for tolerance were identified, which co-located with three flowering repressor genes, FLC, FRI, and HUA2. The role of these genes in tolerance was further examined in genotypes carrying functional or nonfunctional alleles. Functional alleles of FLC together with FRI and/or HUA2 were required for both tolerance and resource reallocation from growth to reproduction. Analyses of FLC alleles from wild accessions that differentially modulate flowering time showed that they ranked differently for their effects on tolerance and flowering. These results pinpoint a role of FLC in A. thaliana tolerance to cucmber mosaic virus, which is a novel major finding, as FLC has not been recognized previously to be involved in plant defence. Although tolerance is associated with a delay in flowering that allows resource reallocation, our results indicate that FLC regulates tolerance and flowering initiation by different mechanisms. Thus, we open a new avenue of research on the interplay between defence and development in plants.  相似文献

Summary Three nuclear mutations that affect tolerance to the herbicide paraquat have been selected in the fern Ceratopteris richardii. Two of the mutations, pq2 and pq45 are allelic and confer low and moderate tolerance, respectively. A third mutation, pqa6, is not linked to the other two and significantly enhances the level of tolerance when in combination with either pq2 or pq45. Life history traits and stress tolerance were studied in four domestic species of DrosophilaD. melanogaster, D. simulans, D. auraria and D. immigrans– to understand how they adapt to their environments. In all species, larval weight approximately doubled in 1 day. The relative egg weight (egg weight : pupal weight) was smaller and the larval period was longer in D. immigrans than in the other three species. The pupal period was the longest in D. auraria. However, the adaptive significance of these differences in larval and pupal periods was not clear. The pupal case was generally thicker in the larger species, probably to support the larger pupal body. The start of oviposition was earliest and reproductive effort was greatest in female D. simulans, followed by female D. melanogaster. In contrast, starvation tolerance and the increase in bodyweight after eclosion was greater in D. immigrans and D. auraria than in the other two species. Pupal desiccation tolerance was greatest in D. melanogaster and lowest in D. auraria, and the less tolerant species seemed to select more humid sites for pupation. Adult tolerance to desiccation was greatest in D. melanogaster and lowest in D. simulans. In contrast, adult cold tolerance was greater in D. auraria and adult heat tolerance was lower in D. immigrans than in the other species. These differences in life history traits and stress tolerance represent the Drosophila species differential adaptations, and are assumed to allow coexistence of the species.  相似文献

To investigate the molecular mechanisms controlling the process of cold acclimation and to identify genes involved in plant freezing tolerance, mutations that impaired the cold acclimation capability of Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. were screened for. A new mutation, frs1 (freezing sensitive 1), that reduced both the constitutive freezing tolerance as well as the freezing tolerance of Arabidopsis after cold acclimation was characterized. This mutation also produced a wilty phenotype and excessive water loss. Plants with the frs1 mutation recovered their wild-type phenotype, their capability to tolerate freezing temperatures and their capability to retain water after an exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) treatment. Measurements of ABA revealed that frs1 mutants were ABA deficient, and complementation tests indicated that frs1 mutation was a new allele of the ABA3 locus showing that a mutation in this locus leads to an impairment of freezing tolerance. These results constitute the first report showing that a mutation in ABA3 leads to an impairment of freezing tolerance, and not only strengthen the conclusion that ABA is required for full development of freezing tolerance in cold-acclimated plants, but also demonstrate that ABA mediates the constitutive freezing tolerance of Arabidopsis. Gene expression in frs1 mutants was altered in response to dehydration, suggesting that freezing tolerance in Arabidopsis depends on ABA-regulated proteins that allow plants to survive the challenges imposed by subzero temperatures, mainly freeze-induced cellular dehydration.
