This study examined the effect of K (as K2SO4) supply on acid production under N2-fixing plants of lupin (Lupinus angustifolius L. cv. Gungurru) and clover (Trifolium subterraneum L. cv. Dalkeith) grown in a K-deficient soil with a low pH buffer capacity for 55 days in the glasshouse at 20/12 °C (day/night). Increasing K supply up to 240 mg K kg-1 soil markedly increased plant growth of both species but clover growth was more responsive than lupin. Growing plants for 55 days decreased soil pH by 0.65–0.85 units under lupin and 0.45–0.83 units under clover. The amounts of H+ produced per kg biomass (specific acid production) were the highest at the nil K supply, generally decreased with increasing K level up to 30 mg K kg-1 under lupin and up to 120 mg K kg-1 soil under clover and only slightly increased with further increasing K under lupin. Increasing K2SO4 supply proportionally increased plant uptake of K and SO 4 2- but generally decreased concentrations of Ca, Mg, Na, P and Cl. Specific acid production correlated well with concentrations of excess cations and ash alkalinity, and total acid production was strongly correlated with total excess cations and total ash alkalinity in plants. These relationships were not affected by K treatment and species. Specific acid production also correlated with plant Ca concentration but not with K concentration. In addition, lupin and clover extruded similar amounts of H+ per kg biomass produced. It is suggested that application of K2SO4 does not have a significant impact on acid production by lupin and clover.  相似文献

The hypothesis of this study was that cumulative P fertilization decreases the contribution of arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) to crop growth and nutrient uptake in Northern European field conditions. The modes of action of P fertilization were evaluated through effects on mycorrhization, crop dependence on AM, and AM fungal (AMF) community. Field studies were carried out within long-term experiments on soils with low and intermediate initial content of extractable P, where no P fertilization and 45 kg ha–1 a–1 P were applied for 20 years. AM effectiveness in terms of growth and nutrient uptake of flax, red clover and barley, percentage root length colonized by AMF, P response of flax, and spore densities and species composition of the AMF communities, were assessed. In the soil with low initial P supply, cumulative P fertilization decreased AM contribution to crop growth and nutrient uptake. The higher AM effectiveness in soil with no added P compensated the cumulative P fertilization (soil PH2O 2.5 v. 9.5 mg kg–1) for flax, but not completely for clover. In contrast, barley obtained no benefit from AM at harvest and only a slight benefit from cumulated P. In the soil with intermediate initial P supply, AM reduced growth of flax and barley, especially with no added P, and no response to AM was obtained on clover due to retarded mycorrhization. Cumulative P fertilization reduced yield losses of flax by AM (PH2O 18.8 v. 5.4 mg kg–1), because fertilization inhibited mycorrhization. In both soils, root colonization and spore density were decreased by cumulative P fertilization, but no changes in AMF species composition were observed.  相似文献

The effect of long-term (1983–1988) applications of crop residues (millet straw, 2–4 t ha-1 yr–1) and/or mineral fertilizer (30 kg N, 13 kg P and 25 kg K ha-1 yr-1) on uptake of phosphorus (P) and other nutrients, root growth and mycorrhizal colonization of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) was examined for two seasons (1987 and 1988) on an acid sandy soil in Niger. Treatments of the long-term field experiment were: control (–CR–F), mineral fertilizer only (–CR+F), crop residues only (+CR–F), and crop residues plus mineral fertilizer (+CR+F).In both years, total P uptake was similar for +CR–F and –CR+F treatments (1.6–3.5 kg P ha-1), although available soil P concentration (Bray I P) was considerably lower in +CR–F (3.2 mg P kg-1 soil) than in –CR+F (7.4) soil. In the treatments with mineral fertilizers (–CR+F; +CR+F), crop residues increased available soil P concentrations (Bray I P) from 7.4 to 8.9 mg kg-1 soil, while total P uptake increased from 3.6 to 10.6 kg P ha-1. In 1987 (with 450 mm of rainfall), leaf P concentrations of 30-day-old millet plants were in the deficiency range, but highest in the +CR+F treatment. In 1988 (699 mm), leaf P concentrations were distinctly higher, and again highest in the +CR+F treatment. In the treatments without crop residues (–CR–F; –CR+F), potassium (K) concentrations in the leaves indicated K deficiency, while application of crop residues (+CR–F; +CR+F) substantially raised leaf K concentrations and total K uptake. Leaf concentrations of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) were hardly affected by the different treatments. In the topsoil (0–30 cm), root length density of millet plants was greater for +CR+F (6.5 cm cm-3) than for +CR–F (4.5 cm cm-3) and –CR+F (4.2 cm cm-3) treatments. Below 30 cm soil depth, root length density of all treatments declined rapidly from about 0.6 cm cm-3 (30–60 cm soil depth) to 0.2 cm cm-3 (120–180 cm soil depth). During the period of high uptake rates of P (42–80 DAP), root colonization with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi was low in 1987 (15–20%), but distinctly higher in 1988 (55–60%). Higher P uptake of +CR+F plants was related to a greater total root length in 0–30 cm and also to a higher P uptake rate per unit root length (P influx). Beneficial effects of crop residues on P uptake were primarily attributed to higher P mobility in the soil due to decreased concentrations of exchangeable Al, and enhancement of root growth. In contrast, the beneficial effect of crop residues on K uptake was caused by direct K supply with the millet straw.  相似文献

Application of phosphorus (P) fertilizers to P-deficient soils can also result in P accumulation. In this study, soil P status and P uptake by apple trees were investigated in 5-, 10-, and 15-year-old orchards in the semi-arid Loess Plateau, China, and subset soils with different soil P statuses (14–90 Olsen-P mg kg−1) were selected to evaluate the characteristic P adsorption. Due to the low P-use efficiency (4–6%), total soil P increased from 540 mg kg−1 to 904 mg kg−1, Olsen-P ranged from 3.4 mg kg−1 to 30.7 mg kg−1, and CaCl2-P increased from less than 0.1 mg kg−1 to 0.66 mg kg−1 under continuous P fertilization. The P sorption isotherms for each apple orchard were found to fit the Langmuir isotherm model (R 2 = 0.91–0.98). K (binding energy) and Q m (P sorption maximum) decreased, whereas DPS (degree of phosphorus sorption) increased with increasing P concentration. CaCl2-P increased significantly with the increase of Olsen-P, especially above the change point of 46.1 mg kg−1. Application of surplus P could result in P enrichment in P-deficient soil which has high P fixation capacity, thus posing a significant environmental risk.  相似文献

The effects of soil acidity on the growth and N2-fixing activity of white clover in seven acid topsoils and subsoils of New Zealand were investigated using a glasshouse experiment. The application of phosphate (Ca(H2PO4)2) to the soils resulted in very large increases in white clover growth on all soils. The application of phosphate, as well as increasing P supply, also decreased 0.02M CaCl2-extractable Al levels, but had little effect on exchangeable Al levels.Where adequate phosphate was applied, increasing rates of lime (CaCO3) resulted in increased plant growth on most soils. N2[C2H2]-fixing activity was increased by the first level of lime for one soil, but generally remained approximately constant or declined slightly at higher rates of lime. Up to the point of maximum yield, white clover top weight was more highly correlated with 0.02M CaCl2-extractable soil Al than with exchangeable Al or pH. At pH values greater than 5.5, plant yield declined on some soils, apparently because of Zn deficiency. The data suggest that white clover is unlikely to be affected by Al toxicity at 0.02M CaCl2-extractable Al levels of less than about 3.3 g g–1. However, there were differences between soils in apparent plant tolerance to 0.02M CaCl2-extractable Al, which appeared to be caused by differing C levels in the 0.02M CaCl2 extracts.  相似文献

We used the buried bag incubation method to study temporal patterns of net N mineralization and net nitrification in soils at Ta-Ta-Chia forest in central Taiwan. The site included a grassland zone, (dominant vegetation consists of Yushania niitakayamensis and Miscanthus transmorrisonensis Hayata) and a forest zone (Tsuga chinensis var. formosana and Yushania niitakamensis). In the grassland, soil concentration NH4 + in the organic horizon (0.1–0.2 m) ranged from 1.0 to 12.4 mg N kg–1 soil and that of NO3 varied from 0.2 to 2.1 mg N kg–1 soil. In the forest zone, NH4 + concentration was between 2.8 and 25.0 mg N kg–1 soil and NO3 varied from 0.2 to 1.3 mg N kg–1 soil. There were lower soil NH4 + concentrations during the summer than other seasons. Net N mineralization was higher during the summer while net nitrification rates did not show a distinct seasonal pattern. In the grassland, net N mineralization and net nitrification rates were between –0.1 and 0.24 and from –0.04 to 0.04 mg N kg–1 soil day–1, respectively. In the forest zone, net N mineralization rates were between –0.03 and 0.45 mg N kg–1 soil day–1 and net nitrification rates were between –0.01 and 0.03 mg N kg–1 soil day–1. These differences likely result from differing vegetation communities (C3 versus C4 plant type) and soil characteristics.  相似文献

Eight forest sites representing a large range of climate, vegetation, and productivity were sampled in a transect across Oregon to study the relationships between aboveground stand characteristics and soil microbial properties. These sites had a range in leaf area index of 0.6 to 16 m2 m–2 and net primary productivity of 0.3 to 14 Mg ha–1 yr–1.Measurements of soil and forest floor inorganic N concentrations and in situ net N mineralization, nitrification, denitrification, and soil respiration were made monthly for one year. Microbial biomass C and anaerobic N mineralization, an index of N availability, were also measured. Annual mean concentrations of NH 4 + ranged from 37 to 96 mg N kg–1 in the forest floor and from 1.7 to 10.7 mg N kg–1 in the mineral soil. Concentrations of NO 3 were low ( < 1 mg N kg–1) at all sites. Net N mineralization and nitrification, as measured by the buried bag technique, were low on most sites and denitrification was not detected at any site. Available N varied from 17 to 101 mg N kg–1, microbial biomass C ranged from 190 to 1230 mg Ckg–1, and soil respiration rates varied from 1.3 to 49 mg C kg–1 day–1 across these sites. Seasonal peaks in NH 4 + concentrations and soil respiration rates were usually observed in the spring and fall. The soils data were positively correlated with several aboveground variables, including leaf area index and net primary productivity, and the near infrared-to-red reflectance ratio obtained from the airborne simulator of the Thematic Mapper satellite. The data suggest that close relationships between aboveground productivity and soil microbial processes exist in forests approaching semi-equilibrium conditions.Abbreviations IR infrared - LAI leaf area index - k c proportion of microbial biomass C mineralized to CO2 - NPP net primary productivity - TM Thematic Mapper  相似文献

Summary This paper reviews the evidence for impacts of metals on the growth of selected plants and on the effects of metals on soil microbial activity and soil fertility in the long-term. Less is known about adverse long-term effects of metals on soil microorganisms than on crop yields and metal uptake. This is not surprising, since the effects of metals added to soils in sewage sludge are difficult to assess, and few long-term experiments exist. Controlled field experiments with sewage sludges exist in the UK, Sweden, Germany and the USA and the data presented here are from these long-term field experiments only. Microbial activity and populations of cyanobacteria,Rhizobium leguminosarum bv.trifolii, mycorrhizae and the total microbial biomass have been adversely affected by metal concentrations which, in some cases, are below the European Community's maximum allowable concentration limits for metals in sludge-treated soils. For example, N2-fixation by free living heterotrophic bacteria was found to be inhibited at soil metal concentrations of (mg kg–1): 127 Zn, 37 Cu, 21 Ni, 3.4 Cd, 52 Cr and 71 Pb. N2-fixation by free-living cyanobacteria was reduced by 50% at metal concentrations of (mg kg–1): 114 Zn, 33 Cu, 17 Ni, 2.9 Cd, 80 Cr and 40 Pb.Rhizobium leguminosarum bv.trifolii numbers decreased by several orders of magnitude at soil metal concentrations of (mg kg–1): 130–200 Zn, 27–48 Cu, 11–15 Ni, and 0.8–1.0 Cd. Soil texture and pH were found to influence the concentrations at which toxicity occurred to both microorganisms and plants. Higher pH, and increased contents of clay and organic carbon reduced metal toxicity considerably. The evidence suggests that adverse effects on soil microbial parameters were generally found at surpringly modest concentrations of metals in soils. It is concluded that prevention of adverse effects on soil microbial processes and ultimately soil fertility, should be a factor which influences soil protection legislation.  相似文献

Effects of liming and boron fertilization on boron uptake of Picea abies   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effects of liming on concentrations of boron and other elements in Norway spruce [Picea abies (L) Karst.] needles and in the mor humus layer were studied in long-term field experiments with and without B fertilizer on podzolic soils in Finland. Liming (2000+4000 kg ha-1 last applied 12 years before sampling) decreased needle B concentrations in the four youngest needle age classes from 6–10 mg kg-1 to 5 mg kg-1. In boron fertilized plots the corresponding concentrations were 23–35 mg kg-1 in control plots and 21–29 mg kg-1 in limed plots. Both liming and B fertilizer decreased the Mn concentrations of needles. In the humus layer, total B concentration was increased by both lime and B fertilizer, and Ca and Mg concentrations and pH were still considerably higher in the limed plots than controls. Liming decreased the organic matter concentration in humus layer, whilst B fertilizer increased it.The results about B uptake were confirmed in a pot experiment, in which additionally the roles of increased soil pH and increased soil Ca concentration were separated by means of comparing the effects of CaCO3 and CaSO4. Two-year-old bare-rooted Norway spruce seedlings were grown in mor humus during the extension growth of the new shoot. The two doses of lime increased the pH of soil from 4.1 to 5.6 to 6.1, and correspondingly decreased the B concentrations in new needles from 22 to 12 to 9 mg kg-1. However, CaSO4 did not affect the pH of the soil or needle B concentrations. Hence the liming effect on boron availability in these soils appeared to be caused by the increased pH rather than increased calcium concentration.  相似文献

Phosphorus (P) loss from land can impair surface water quality. Losses can occur from soil and plant components. While it is known that P losses increase with soil P concentration, it is not known how losses from pasture plants vary with soil P concentration or between different forages. We examined total P and filterable reactive P (FRP) in water extracts of plant shoots, used as a measure of potential P loss to surface runoff, in different forage species relative to soil P concentration in field trials and a glasshouse experiment. The mean total P concentration of 16 forage species in grazed field plots was greater (P?<?0.01; LSD05?=?117 mg kg?1) in legumes (3,480 mg kg?1) than for grasses (3,210 mg kg?1). Total plant P concentrations of grasses and legumes increased with soil Mehlich-3 P concentrations in both glasshouse and field trials with concentrations close to 6,000 mg kg?1 in arrowleaf clover at 680 mg kg?1 Mehlich-3 soil P. FRP in water extracts of plant shoots increased relative to plant total P as soil Mehlich-3 P increased, with the greatest concentrations shown by crimson clover and arrowleaf clover. Analysis of water extracts of ryegrass and clover herbage from a field trial showed that while FRP was increasing, phytase-available-P decreased significantly from about 70% of filterable unreactive P at the lowest Mehlich-3 P concentrations, to close to zero at 200 mg kg?1 Mehlich-3 P. The wide variation, and enrichment of FRP in water extracts and total P with increasing Mehlich-3 P among species, indicates that cultivar and site selection and sward management provide a potential option to mitigate P loss to surface waters.  相似文献

The Catskill Mountains of southeastern New York receive among the highest rates of atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition in eastern North America, and ecosystems in the region may be sensitive to human disturbances that affect the N cycle. We studied the effects of a clearcut in a northern hardwood forest within a 24-ha Catskill watershed on the net rates of N mineralization and nitrification in soil plots during 6 years (1994–1999) that encompassed 3-year pre- and post-harvesting periods. Despite stream NO3 concentrations that increased by more than 1400 mol l–1 within 5 months after the clearcut, and three measures of NO3 availability in soil that increased 6- to 8-fold during the 1st year after harvest, the net rates of N mineralization and nitrification as measured by in situ incubation in the soil remained unchanged. The net N-mineralization rate in O-horizon soil was 1– 2 mg N kg–1 day–1 and the net nitrification rate was about 1 mg N kg–1 day–1, and rates in B-horizon soil were only one-fifth to one-tenth those of the O-horizon. These rates were obtained in single 625 m2 plots in the clearcut watershed and reference area, and were confirmed by rate measurements at 6 plots in 1999 that showed little difference in N-mineralization and nitrification rates between the treatment and reference areas. Soil temperature increased 1 ± 0.8 °C in a clearcut study plot relative to a reference plot during the post-harvest period, and soil moisture in the clearcut plot was indistinguishable from that in the reference plot. These results are contrary to the initial hypothesis that the clearcut would cause net rates of these N-cycling processes to increase sharply. The in situ incubation method used in this study isolated the samples from ambient roots and thereby prevented plant N uptake; therefore, the increases in stream NO3 concentrations and export following harvest largely reflect diminished uptake. Changes in temperature and moisture after the clearcut were insufficient to measurably affect the net rates of N mineralization and nitrification in the absence of plant uptake. Soil acidification resulting from the harvest may have acted in part to inhibit the rates of these processes. Fluoride is a potentially toxic element, with a narrow range of tolerable amounts taken up via food or drinking water. To evaluate F content in surface soils, 255 topsoil samples (0–20 cm) in an area of 6800 km2 in Isfahan province of central Iran were collected. Crop plants and randomly sampled water samples from wells were evaluated during the spring and summer seasons. Total F concentration in 96% of soil samples was lower than the global suggested average of 200 mg kg?1. The mean F concentration of water samples in the study area was 0.05 and 0.3 mg L?1 in summer and spring, respectively. Fluoride concentrations in different plant species were in the range of normal values. The total hazard quotient (HQ) for both population groups via consumption of cereals, vegetables, and water; incidental ingestion of soil; inhalation of soil particulates; and dermal contact with water and soil was less than 1.0, resembling no obvious risk. It is suggested that neither age group in Isfahan province will experience a significant potential health risk through their dietary intake of cereals, vegetables, and water; ingestion of soil; inhalation of particulates; and dermal contact.  相似文献

The effects of different cadmium concentrations [17 mg(Cd) kg−1(soil) and 72 mg(Cd) kg− 1(soil)] on Cannabis sativa L. growth and photosynthesis were examined. Hemp roots showed a high tolerance to Cd, i.e. more than 800 mg(Cd) kg−1(d.m.) in roots had no major effect on hemp growth, whereas in leaves and stems concentrations of 50 – 100 mg(Cd) kg−1(d.m.) had a strong effect on plant viability and vitality. For control of heavy metal uptake and xylem loading in hemp roots, the soil pH plays a central role. Photosynthetic performance and regulation of light energy consumption were analysed using chlorophyll fluorescence analysis. Seasonal changes in photosynthetic performance were visible in control plants and plants growing on soil with 17 mg(Cd) kg−1(soil). Energy distribution in photosystem 2 is regulated in low and high energy phases that allow optimal use of light and protect photosystem 2 from overexcitation, respectively. Photosynthesis and energy dissipation were negatively influenced by 72 mg(Cd) kg−1(soil). Cd had detrimental effects on chlorophyll synthesis, water splitting apparatus, reaction centre, antenna and energy distribution of PS 2. Under moderate cadmium concentrations, i.e. 17 mg(Cd) kg−1(soil), hemp could preserve growth as well as the photosynthesis apparatus, and long-term acclimation to chronically Cd stress occurred.  相似文献

Brief pre- and post-irrigation sprinkling treatments using freshwater were tested to determine if these practices could reduce the uptake of salts through leaves when saline water is used to sprinkler irrigate crops. Maize and barley were sprinkler irrigated 2 to 3 times per week for 30 min with saline water (4.2 dS m–1, 30 mmol L–1 NaCl and 2.8 mmoles L–1 CaCl2 for maize and 9.6 dS m–1, 47 mmoles L–1 NaCl and 23.5 mmoles L–1 CaCl2 for barley) in separate experiments with plants grown in pots outdoors. The soil surface of all pots was covered to prevent salinization of the soil by the sprinkling water. One half of the sprinkled plants was grown in nonsaline soil to study the effects of pre-wetting and post-washing when ion uptake was primarily through leaves. The other half of the sprinkled plants was grown in soil salinized by drip irrigation, in order to evaluate the effects of pre-wetting and post-washing when Na+ and Cl- uptake was through both leaves and roots.Post-washing with freshwater (5 min) reduced the leaf sap concentrations of Cl- in saline-sprinkled plants from 56 to 43 mmol L–1 in maize and from 358 to 225 mmol L–1 in barley (averages for plants grown in nonsaline and saline soil). Na+ concentrations in leaf sap were reduced from 93 to 65 mmoles L–1 (maize) and from 177 to 97 mmoles L–1 (barley) by the post-washing. Pre-wetting had a small effect on ion uptake through leaves, the only significant reduction in seasonal means being in leaf Na+ concentrations for plants grown in nonsaline soil. Pre-wetting and post-washing, when combined, reduced leaf Cl- concentrations to levels similar to those of nonsprinkled plants grown in saline soil; however, Na+ concentrations in leaves remained 3.5 times (maize) and 1.5 times (barley) higher than those of nonsprinkled plants. When pre-wetting and post-washing were not applied, sprinkled barley plants grown in saline soil had grain yields which were 58% lower than nonsprinkled plants grown in saline soil, but the reduction in grain yield was only 17% when the freshwater treatments were given. We conclude that a brief period of post-washing with freshwater is essential when saline water is employed in sprinkler irrigation. By comparison, the benefits from pre-wetting were small in these experiments. ei]T J Flowers  相似文献

Glasshouse experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of L-TRP in comparison with indole-3-acetamide (IAM), tryptophol (TOL) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) on the growth of Zea mays L. var. Early Sunglow. L-TRP (25 to 2.5×10–5 mg kg–1 soil), IAM (22 to 2.2×10–5 mg kg–1 soil), TOL (20 to 2.0×10–5 mg kg–1 soil), and IAA (22 to 2.2×10–5 mg kg–1 soil) were applied as a soil drench to established uniform seedlings. All treatments were applied in a completely randomized design with 10 replicates. IAM had no significant effect on the plant growth parameters. Shoot height, uppermost leaf collar base distance, internodal distance, and shoot dry and fresh weights were significantly improved upon the addition of TOL (2.0×10–2 mg kg–1 soil), however, the highest concentration (20 mg kg–1 soil) caused a 14.6% reduction in leaf width. L-TRP (2.5×10–3 mg kg-1 soil) also had a significant influence on shoot height, uppermost leaf collar base distance, internodal distance and fresh weight of shoot compared with the control. The highest concentration of L-TRP (25=mg kg–1 soil) had a negative effect on leaf width and dry weight of the shoot. The most pronounced response on the corn growth parameters was observed with the application of IAA at lower concentrations (2.2×10–5 to 2.2×10–2 mg kg–1 soil) specifically improving root growth. The highest concentration (22 mg kg–1 soil) of IAA had a significant negative effect on plant height, leaf width, stem diameter, shoot fresh and dry weight. These findings indicate that L-TRP applied at the appropriate concentrations can have positive effects on corn growth comparable to pure auxins (TOL and IAA).  相似文献

Heavy metal pollution of the soils around an abandoned Pb-Zn mine site located in the Alcudia Valley (South Central Spain) have been characterized by analysis of extractable and total metal concentrations in 60 samples of arable, pasture, and mine lands. The samples showed a broad range of size-particle distribution, cation exchange capacity, and pH values as well as high levels of total metal concentrations (up to 98510 mg kg?1 of Pb, up to 20912 mg kg?1 of Zn, and up to 61 mg kg?1 of Cd). In order to assess the potential availability of metals the metal partitioning in two different soil size fractions (<2 mm and <63 μm) was determined using EDTA and CaCl2 as sequestering reagents. The average contents of Pb, Zn, and Cd in the <63 μm particle size fraction for both extractions were higher than those of the <2 mm fraction due to the high metal adsorption capacity of the fine soil particles. Concentrations of heavy metals extracted by CaCl2 were up to three orders of magnitude lower than those extracted by EDTA, because CaCl2 only extracts the easily mobile fraction. Metal concentrations extracted by both procedures in the two granulometric fractions increased with total metal concentrations, thus increasing the potential environmental risk associated to heavy metal pollution.  相似文献

Precipitation of Ca phosphates negatively affects recovery by plants of P fertilizer applied to calcareous soils, but organic matter slows the precipitation of poorly soluble Ca phosphates. To study the effect of high molecular weight organic compounds on the recovery of applied P, a mixture of humic and fulvic acids was applied to calcareous soils with different levels of salinity and Na saturation which were fertilized with 200 and 2000 mg P kg–1 as NH4H2PO4. Recovery was measured as the ratio of increment in Olsen P-to-applied P after 30, 60 and 150 days, and associated P forms were studied using sequential chemical fractionation and 31P NMR spectroscopy. Application of the humic-fulvic acid mixture (HFA) increased the amount of applied P recovered as Olsen P in all the soils except in one soil with the highest Na saturation. In soils with high Ca saturation and high Olsen P, recovery increased from < 15% in the absence of amendment to > 40% at a 5 g HFA kg–1 amendment rate (30 days incubation and 200 mg P kg–1 fertilizer rate). This is ascribed to inhibition of the precipitation of poorly soluble Ca phosphates, consistent with the sequential chemical extraction (reduction of the HCl extractable P) and P concentration in 0.01 M CaCl2 (1:10 soil:solution ratio) extracts. 31P NMR spectra revealed that in non-amended samples, most spectral shifts were due to poorly soluble P compounds (carbonate apatite); on the other hand, at the 5 g HFA kg–1 rate, significant amounts of amorphous Ca phosphate and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCDP) were identified. The increase in the recovery of applied P due to HFA reveals a positive effect of the application of organic matter as soil amendments on the efficiency of P fertilizers and also explains that manures and other organic sources of P were more efficient increasing available P than inorganic P fertilizers in calcareous soils.  相似文献

The dynamics of inorganic N are important in soil, and this applies particularly to the saline–alkaline soils of the former lake Texcoco in Mexico with high pH and salinity where a forestation program was started in the 1970s. In soils of lake Texcoco, in Mexico, more than 50% of applied N could not be accounted for one day after application of 200 mg kg–1 soil along with glucose amendment. It was not clear whether this was due to abiotic or biotic processes, the form of inorganic N applied or the result of applying an easily decomposable substrate. We investigated this by adding glucose and 200 mg kg–1 soil as (NH4)2SO4-N or KNO3-N to sterilized and unsterilized soil. The changes in inorganic and ninhydrin N, microbial biomass C and production of CO2 were then monitored. Between the time of applying N and extraction with 0.5 M K2SO4, i.e., after ca 2 h, approximately 110 mg NH4 +-N kg–1 dry soil could not be accounted for in the unsterilized and sterilized soil and that remained so for the entire incubation in the sterilized soil. After 1 day this increased to 140 mg NH4 +-N kg–1 dry soil in the unsterilized control and 170 mg NH4 +-N kg–1 dry soil in C amended soil. Volatilization of NH3 accounted for 56 mg NH4 +-N kg–1 so the rest appeared to be adsorbed on the soil matrix. The NH3 volatilization and NH4 + fixed in the soil matrix remained constant over time and no oxidation to NO2 or NO3 had occurred, so unaccounted N in unsterilized soil was probably incorporated into the microbial biomass in excess of what was required for metabolic activity. The unaccounted N was ca 70 mg NO3 –N in nitrate amended soil after 3 days and 138 NO3 –N when glucose was additionally added. Losses through abiotic processes were absent as inferred from changes in sterilized soil and the aerobic incubation inhibited possible losses through denitrification. It was inferred that NO3 that could not be accounted for was taken up by micro-organisms in excess of what was required for metabolic activity.  相似文献

Effect of high boron application on boron content and growth of melons   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Synthetic chelates, such as ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), have been shown to enhance phytoextraction of Pb from contaminated soil but also cause leaching of heavy metal-chelate complexes, posing a groundwater contamination threat. In a soil column study, we examined the effect of EDTA and a biodegradable chelate [S,S] isomere of ethylene diamine disuccinate ([S,S]-EDDS), newly introduced in phytoextraction research, on the uptake of Pb by the Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa) and Pb leaching through the soil profile. Soil water sorption characteristics were modified by acrylamide hydrogel. The addition of 0.1 and 0.2% (w/w) of hydrogel amendments increased soil field water capacity from initial 24.6% to 28.5% and 31.3%, respectively. The additions of 2.5, 5 and 10 mmol EDTA kg–1 soil were more effective in enhancing Pb plant uptake than comparable [S,S]-EDDS treatments, but caused (as also 10 mmol kg–1 [S,S]-EDDS additions) unacceptably high Pb leaching in treatments with any soil water sorption conditions tested. The most efficient level of EDTA (10 mmol kg–1) enhanced plant Pb uptake by 97 times compared to the control. Shoots Pb concentrations reached 500 mg kg–1 of dry biomass. However, in this treatment 36.2% of total initial Pb was leached from the soil during the first four weeks after chelate addition. Hydrogel soil amendments were more effective in treatments with [S,S]-EDDS than with EDTA. In treatments with 10 mmol kg–1[S,S]-EDDS hydrogel amended soils, plant Pb uptake was significantly reduced and Pb leach was as high as 44.2% of total initial soil Pb. At lower [S,S]-EDDS concentrations, the effect of hydrogel soil amendment on Pb leaching was the opposite. The addition of 5 mmol kg–1 [S,S]-EDDS soil to the soil amended with 0.2% hydrogel increased Pb uptake by 18 times while only 0.2% of total initial Pb was leached. In all treatments, the concentrations of Pb in dry plant biomass were far from concentrations required for efficient soil remediation within a reasonable time span.  相似文献

Although common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) has good potential for N2 fixation, some additional N provided through fertilizer usually is required for a maximum yield. In this study the suppressive effect of N on nodulation and N2 fixation was evaluated in an unfertile soil under greenhouse conditions with different levels of soil fertility (low=no P, K and S additions; medium = 50, 63 and 10 mg kg–1 soil and high = 200, 256 and 40 mg kg–1 soil, respectively) and combined with 5, 15, 60 and 120 mg N kg–1 soil of 15N-labelled urea. The overall average nodule number and weight increased under high fertility levels. At low N applications, nitrogen had a synergistic effect on N2 fixation, by stimulating nodule formation, nitrogenase activity and plant growth. At high fertility and at the highest N rate (120 mg kg–1 soil), the stimulatory effect of N fertilizer on N2 fixation was still observed, increasing the amounts of N2 fixed from 88 up to 375 mg N plant–1. These results indicate that a suitable balance of soil nutrients is essential to obtain high N2 fixation rates and yield in common beans.  相似文献
