Carnations (Dianthus) cultivar White Sim, were grown under photoperiodiccycles comprising 8 h of natural daylight followed by 16-h ‘nights’during which different lighting treatments were given. Irradiationwith tungsten-filament lamps throughout the night was the mosteffective treatment for the promotion of flower initiation.Irrespective of the timing or duration of the lighting, tungstenfilamentlamps were more effective than ‘daylight’ fluorescentlamps. Promotion of flower initiation due to radiation from a far-redsource was greatest when irradiation followed immediately afterthe period of natural daylight and was least when it immediatelypreceded the period of daylight. Promotion of flowering dueto a red source was least when the effect of far-red was greatest.Red and far-red radiations were synergistic in their promotionof flower initiation when given simultaneously for a periodof 4 h in the middle of the night. It is suggested that in thepromotion of flower initiation in long-day plants, a requirementfor a relatively long duration of irradiation is related physiologicallyto a requirement for a relatively high proportion of far-redradiant energy.  相似文献

Plants of two cultivars of Callistephus chinensis (Queen ofthe Market and Johannistag) were grown in 8 h of daylight perday with one of the following treatments given during the 16h dark period: (a) darkness—‘uninterrupted night’,(b) I h of light in the middle of the dark period—a ‘nightbreak’, (c) I min of light in every hour of the dark period—‘cycliclighting’, (d) light throughout—‘continuouslight’. The plants receiving uninterrupted dark periods remained compactand rosetted in habit with small leaves, while leaf expansion,stem extension, and flower initiation were promoted in all threeillumination treatments (b, c, d). Although these three treatmentsproduced similar increases in leaf area, continuous light wasthe most effective for the promotion of both stem growth andflower initiation while cyclic lighting was generally more effectivethan a I-h night break. Continuous light also caused more dry matter to be divertedto stems at any given vegetative dry weight and it was shownthat the stem weight ratio of both varieties was correlatedwith stem length.  相似文献

Forty 28-wk-old ring-necked pheasant hens were equally distributed among 5 treatment groups and exposed to the following light schedules for 36 wk: Treatment 1 - 16L:8D; Treatment 2 - 1L:11D:4L:8D; Treatment 3 - 1L:13D:2L:8D; Treatment 4 - 1L:14D:1L:8D; and Treatment 5 - 1L:14.5D:0.5L:8D. The number of days from stimulatory lighting to the first egg was significantly (P<0.05) greater under the intermittent schedules (20.3, 29.5, 40.3, 44.4, and 57.7 d, respectively) when the subjective daylength was shorter than 13 h. Despite the delay in initiation of laying, average egg production was higher under intermittent lighting (23.0, 36.0, 48.6, 43.8, and 42.3% or 58.0, 93.0, 122.5, 110.4, and 106.6 eggs). Patterns of oviposition indicated a tendency in the birds exposed to intermittent lighting to have synchronized laying, with the period opposite the longest scotoperiod provided by their light schedule; thus subjective daylengths of 13, 11, 10 and 9.5 h, respectively, were created. Fertility was significantly (P<0.05) lower under intermittent lighting and was apparently associated with a high proportion of eggs in the late stages of oviducal development at the time of insemination.  相似文献

The specific growth rate of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Chlorella sorokiniana decreased under square-wave light/dark cycles of medium duration, 13–87 s, in comparison to continuous illumination. Three experiments were done in three different turbidostats at saturating and sub-saturating light intensities during the light period, 240–630 μmol m−2 s−1. Within each experiment the light intensity during the light periods of the intermittent light regimes was equal and this intensity was also applied under continuous illumination. The specific growth rate decreased proportional or more than proportional to the fraction of time the algae were exposed to light; this light fraction ranged from 0.32 to 0.88. We conclude that under these light regimes the chlorophyta C. reinhardtii and C. sorokiniana are not able to store light energy in the light period to sustain growth in the dark period at the same rate as under continuous illumination. C. reinhardtii increased its specific light absorbing surface by increasing its chloropyll-a content under light/dark cycles of 13 s duration and a light fraction of 0.67 at 240 μmol m−2 s−1; the chloropyll-a content was twice as high under intermittent illumination in comparison to continuous illumination. The combination of a higher specific light absorption together with a lower specific growth rate led to a decrease of the yield of biomass on light energy under intermittent illumination.  相似文献

The long-term responses of the green microalga, Scenedesmusbicellularis, to a 100 Hz quasi-square wave (intermittent light,IL) were assessed after a 4 week acclimatization period. Atthe end of this period, the photosynthetic pigments, carboxylatingenzyme activities and biochemical composition of algae grownunder IL were compared to those of algae acclimatized to a lightflux without fluctuations (continuous light, CL). Differencesbetween IL and CL treatments were small. IL cells grown underlimiting irradiance had characteristics close to CL cells grownat the same daily irradiance. At saturating irradiance, thecharacteristics of IL cells resembled those of CL cells at thesame instantaneous irradiance, mostly because of the flattenedresponse of microalgae to increased irradiance. The flickeringof any artificial lighting system (100–120 Hz) can thusbe neglected when such light is used to grow algae.  相似文献

In humans, experimental studies of circadian resetting typically have been limited to lengthy episodes of exposure to continuous bright light. To evaluate the time course of the human endogenous circadian pacemaker's resetting response to brief episodes of intermittent bright light, we studied 16 subjects assigned to one of two intermittent lighting conditions in which the subjects were presented with intermittent episodes of bright-light exposure at 25- or 90-min intervals. The effective duration of bright-light exposure was 31% or 63% compared with a continuous 5-h bright-light stimulus. Exposure to intermittent bright light elicited almost as great a resetting response compared with 5 h of continuous bright light. We conclude that exposure to intermittent bright light produces robust phase shifts of the endogenous circadian pacemaker. Furthermore, these results demonstrate that humans, like other species, exhibit an enhanced sensitivity to the initial minutes of bright-light exposure.  相似文献

The photoperiodic reactions of spring rye and vernalised andunvernalised winter rye have been studied in detail and interpretedin terms of a schema presented in earlier papers. Vernalisationtreatments ranging from 0 to 13 weeks were used and three daylengths(continuous light, C.L.; normal days, L.D.; 10-hr. days, S.D.),and the interaction effects of these factors were studied onthe following developmental features: time to initiation offlowering and to ‘double-ridge’ formation; progressof differentiation and growth rate of the apex of the main shootbefore and after initiation. Systematic dissections of the apexwere carried out to obtain data for this study. The validityof the concept of ‘minimal leaf number’ was re-examinedand confirmed by using dwarf embryos with subnormal numbersof primordia at germination. Unvernalised winter rye was shownto behave as a short-day plant before flower initiation sincephotoperiodic induction by short days is annulled by interruptingthe dark period by a short light period at low intensity. Theeffect of exposure of a single leaf to continuous light, whilethe remainder of the plant was kept in short days, has beenshown to be transmitted to the apex and hastens both flowerinduction and spikelet development in fully vernalised rye.Vernalised winter rye and spring rye thus behave as long-dayplants.  相似文献

 Flower doubleness as a breeding characteristic is of major importance in carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus), one of the major cut-flowers sold worldwide, since flower architecture is of the utmost value in ornamentals. Based on the number of petals per flower, carnations are grouped into “single”, “semi-double” and “double” flower types. The first have five petals and are easily distinguishable, but of no economic value to the carnation industry. Flowers of standard and spray varieties, which constitute the largest market share, are usually of the double and semi-double type, respectively. These flower types are not easily distinguishable due to phenotypic overlaps caused by environmental conditions. To study the inheritance of this trait, several progeny segregating for flower type were prepared. Based on the number of single-flower type fullsibs among the offspring, we found that this phenotype is expressed only in plants homozygous for the recessive allele and that a dominant mutation in this allele causes an increase in petal number. Using random decamer primers, we identified a random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) marker which is tightly linked to this recessive allele. The RAPD marker was cloned and used to generate a restriction fragment length polymorphic (RFLP) marker. This RFLP marker could discriminate with 100% accuracy between the semi-double and double- flower phenotypes in carnations of both Mediterranean and American groups. The growth of the flower and its constituent parts was measuredin Silene coeli-rosa plants, induced at 13, 20 and 27 °C,in order to try and identify those processes which consistentlyoccurred and would therefore be more likely to be essentialfor flower formation. The increased growth rate of the apical dome just before orabout the time of sepal initiation was not maintained in theflower, the growth rate of which was comparable to that of avegetative apex until all the carpels had been initiated, whenit decreased further. The primordia of the same whorl all hadsimilar growth rates so that the relative sizes of the primordiareflected their relative ages since their initiation. The relativegrowth rate of the stamens was the same (13 and 20 °C) orless (27 °C) than that of the sepals, but the relative growthrate of the petals was lower than either. The growth rate ofthe flower axis was least at the sepal node and increased bothdistally and proximally from this region. The plastochron during sepal initiation was shorter than forleaf initiation and tended to be shorter still during initiationof stamens and petals. Increasing temperature increased therate of primordial initiation but at 27 °C the growth ratesof the primordia were lowest although the rates of primordiainitiation were highest. The form of the flower, as exemplifiedby the relative sizes of the primordia at the moment when allcarpels had been initiated, was constant despite the differinggrowth rates and sizes of the primordia on initiation in differenttemperatures. It is concluded that neither the initiation ofthe primordia in the flower nor the form of the flower is determinedprimarily by the relative growth rates of its component parts. 为探讨夜间补充光照对大棚火龙果冬季植株促花的效应,以2年生‘短芯’红肉(心)火龙果植株为试材,每天夜间补光6 h,以不补光为对照,观测火龙果枝条抽蕾状况。结果显示,在平均光强500 lx、每天补充光照6 h、连续补光45 d条件下,第一批次植株抽生花蕾率达83.3%,老枝(枝龄≥12个月)抽生花蕾率为15.2%,青枝(枝龄<12个月)抽生花蕾率为28.0%,抽生花蕾枝条占植株总枝条数的21.4%;枝条花蕾数占枝条上芽点数的比率,老枝为2.7%、青枝为2.9%。而对照植株没有抽生花蕾,抽蕾率为0。表明夜间补充光照可有效地促进大棚火龙果冬季植株抽花。  相似文献

Effects of different conditions of environmental lighting on the appearance of the muricidal behaviour in male Wistar rats have been studied. The animals were kept under different conditions of environmental lighting: 1) natural day light alternated with the dark of the night; 2) sodium, continuous light emitted by a sodium steam lamp; 3) neon, continuous light emitted by fluorescent neon tubes. The continuous sodium steam light increased the percentage of animals becoming muricide when compared to animals bred in a natural environment with a normal succession of day-night lighting. On the contrary, this percentage decreased if the rats of the same group are exposed to continuous light emitted by fluorescent neon tubes. As the exposure of rats to an environment under continuous light causes a reduction of the cerebral content of serotonin, the muricidal behaviour provoked in naturally non-muricide rats by this type of lighting could be related to this depletion.  相似文献

Rooted chrysanthemum cuttings were raised in growth cabinetsat a ‘standard’, constant light level of 125 J cm–2day–1 and were induced to flower by giving daily cyclesof 8 h light followed by 16 h of uninterrupted darkness. Sampleswere transferred at weekly intervals to either a higher lightlevel of 375 J cm–2 day–1 or a lower light levelof 31 J cm–2 day–1 where they remained for 2 weeksbefore they were returned. It was shown that receptacle formationnormally began in the second week of inductive short-days (short-days8–14) and floret initiation in the third week (short-days15–21) when plants were grown throughout in the standardenvironment Receptacle formation was delayed and significantlymore leaves were formed below the flower if short-days 8–14were spent in low light. Transfer to high light for this periodhad no apparent effect Transfer to low light at the onset offloret formation retarded their further development and reducedthe total number of florets formed Transfer to high light atthis stage slightly increased the number of florets formed butdid not appear to affect their development. The data for stageof flower development after 11 weeks of growth reflected theseeffects of light level on the early development of the apex The total and flower dry weights of plants transferred to lowlight for 2 weeks were generally smaller than those of plantswhich had remained throughout in the standard condition Highlight only produced lasting increases in weight when the transferswere made during the later stages of growth. Most of the additionaldry matter formed at this time was accounted for in increasedflower weight The correlation between flower development andflower weight ratio previously found under constant environmentsalso applied to transferred plants except when the light levelwas changed for the last 2 weeks of growth; relatively highvalues of flower weight ratio were then obtained by transferto high light and relatively low values by transfer to low light.  相似文献

To examine flower opening and closing of aPortulacahybrid, flowerbuds were placed in darkness for 12 h (2030–0830 h) at20 °C and then exposed to various light-temperature conditions.Flower buds exposed to light at 25, 30 or 35 °C opened within1 h, and wilted 10–14 h later. Flower buds exposed tolight at 20 °C started to open after 4 h but opened slowlyand not completely. Flower buds subjected to 25, 30 or 35 °Cin darkness also opened rapidly, but did not reach full opening.Flowers opened at 30 °C in light, and partially closed andopened repeatedly in response to cycles of a 2-h exposure to20 °C and a 2-h exposure to 30 °C at any time between1000 to 1600 h. Similar phenomena were observed when the flowersopened at 30 °C in light and then were subjected to darknessand light alternately at 30 °C, although the effect of lightwas less obvious than that of alternating temperature. Floweropening and closing were not affected by relative humidity.These results indicate that a rise in temperature is requiredfor rapid flower opening in the buds kept at 20 °C, andthat light intensifies the effect of high temperature. Exposureto light without a temperature change delayed and slowed floweropening which was never complete. The involvement of an endogenousrhythm in flower opening byPortulacais indicated. We have reproduced in vitro the diurnal cycles in levels of serotonin acetyltransferase activity found in the chick pineal gland in vivo. The more closely the lighting conditions of culture matched those under which the birds were raised, the closer was the similarity between cycles in levels of enzyme activity in vitro and in vivo. Repetitive cycles in levels of acetyltransferase activity persisted in culture for at least 4 days under a diurnal cycle of illumination, and at least 2 days in continuous darkness. When glands were explanted into culture in the light phase of a cycle, short periods of further exposure to light markedly stimulated subsequent increase of acetyltransferase in the dark (after a short lag). Prolonged exposure to light in culture markedly inhibited increase of enzyme activity. Cycles in the levels of enzyme activity in glands cultured under altered light cycles were regulated primarily by changes in illumination. However, the endogenous biological 'clock' remained at least partly entrained to the original light cycle. Increase of acetyltransferase activity in vitro was markedly stimulated by theophylline plus compound Ro. 20.1724 (4-(3-butoxy-4-methoxybenzyl)-2-imidazolidinone) under all lighting conditions. Kinetics (to the time of attaining maximum levels in situ) of the increase under diurnal lighting and in constant darkness were indistinguishable from those in vivo. A high concentration of dl-propranolol markedly stimulated an increase in acetyltransferase activity in glands cultured in constant darkness but had little effect on glands under diurnal lighting or continuous illumination.  相似文献

在离体条件下,利用不同的培养基对麝香石竹顶芽外植体的花芽发育进行了阶段控制的研究.结果表明,麝香石竹的顶芽外植体在MS+KT1.0mg/L+IAA1.0mg/L+蔗糖3.0%+琼脂0.8%的Ⅰ级培养基上能被诱导花芽发育的启动;然后,将已诱导花芽发育启动的顶芽外植体,转接到MS+KT1.0mg/L+IAA0.5mg/L+蔗糖1.5%+葡萄糖1.5%+琼脂0.8%的Ⅱ级培养基上能进行花芽的进一步发育形成花蕾,且能从一个花蕾继续分化发育重新产生2—3个花蕾;把花蕾再转接到改良的MS+BA2.0mg/L+NAA0.2mg/L+蔗糖1.5%+葡萄糖1.5%+琼脂0.8%的Ⅲ级培养基上,培养一周后花蕾的花瓣张开,花朵全部开放.不同麝香石竹品种,诱导花芽发育启动的效果不同,Scania品种诱导效果最好.花芽发育初期可溶性蛋白含量较高,但随着花芽发育的进程而迅速下降,不同花芽发育时期的过氧化物酶活性均强于营养器官.本文为花芽分化发育机理的研究创造了条件,也为鲜花生产探索了新路子.  相似文献

A low temperature (5 ?C) given either continuously or at nightpromoted the formation of secondary growing centres within theflower of carnation. Additional petals were produced from thesecentres and hence the total petal number was markedly increased.The formation of secondary growing centres and additional petalscould also be promoted by application of GA3or IAA to the shoottip during flower initiation. Increases in the number of petalsarising directly from the receptacle were produced by a localizedhigh temperature treatment of the shoot tip or by applicationof kinetin. Effects of temperature on petal number were exertedin the early stages of flower development before the flowerbud became visible between the leaves.  相似文献

Comparisons were conducted of flea catches of four commercially available flea traps in the laboratory and under field conditions, in both rural and urban locations. The results clearly showed the My Flea Trap?, which utilizes an intermittent light to attract fleas, to be far superior in trapping ability to the three continuous light traps; it caught up to 23 times as many fleas as the other traps. Altering the lighting mechanism to provide continuous rather than intermittent light significantly decreased the number of fleas captured. In addition, the use of a green filter significantly increased trapping efficiency, whereas the addition of a heat source had no apparent effect.  相似文献

Chlorella kessleri was cultivated in artificial wastewater using diurnal illumination of 12 h light/12 h dark (L/D) cycles. The inoculum density was 105 cells/mL and the irradiance in light cycle was 45 μmol m2 s−1 at the culture surface. As a control culture, another set of flasks was cultivated under continuous illumination. Regardless of the illumination scheme, the total organic carbon (TOC) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) was reduced below 20% of the initial concentration within a day. However, cell concentration under the L/D lighting scheme was lower than that under the continuous illuminating scheme. Thus the specific removal rate of organic carbon under L/D cycles was higher than that under continuous illumination. This result suggested thatC. kessleri grew chemoorganotrophically in the dark periods. After 3 days, nitrate was reduced to 136.5 and 154.1 mg NO3 -N/L from 168.1 mg NO3 -N/L under continuous illumination and under diurnal cycles, respectively. These results indicate nitrate removal efficiency under continuous light was better than that under diurnal cycles. High-density algal cultures using optimized photobioreactors with diurnal cycles will save energy and improve organic carbon sources removal.  相似文献

Seedlings of Pharbitis nil, Strains Violet, Tendan and Kidachi,initiated floral buds under Continuous light when exposed totemperatures lower than 15, 15 and 21?C, respectively, throughoutthe experimental period, or to 13–14?C for a minimum durationof 10, 8 and 4 days, respectively. Cotyledons were necessaryfor floral initiation when the seedlings at the start of coldtreatment were 8 days old (10 days old for Kidachi) or younger,although neither cotyledons nor foliage leaves were necessarywhen the plants were older. When the cotyledons in young seedlingswere removed immediately after exposure to cold temperature(13–14?C) for 14 (Violet), 12 (Tendan) or 8 (Kidachi)days (cold treatment begun when the cotyledons had just unfolded),only a few plants initiated floral buds under continuous light.However, when the cotyledons were left attached for 2 more daysat 23?C, the plants produced as many flower buds as those withintact cotyledons, suggesting that cotyledons exposed to coldtemperature produce a floral stimulus which can be translocatedto buds even after the end of the cold treatment. The intermittent light irradiation with an hour-scale period is used for producing caffeine by Coffea arabica cells. Three factors concerning the light/dark cycle operation such as light intensity, the length of the cycle (period), and the ratio of the illumination time to the dark time (light/dark ratio) were investigated to optimize the caffeine production efficiency regarding light consumption. The light/dark ratio of 1/1 enhanced caffeine production, reaching the same level as continuous light; thus, the intermittent light irradiation improved the production efficiency twofold. The production was not influenced by the period, but was determined by light intensity regardless of intermittent or continuous light irradiation.  相似文献
