Swimming has evolved in only a few orders of Bivalves. In this study, the behavior, morphometry, and mechanics of swimming in the file shell Limaria fragilis were characterized and compared to the better understood scallops. Absolute swimming speed (cm?sec?1) increased with increasing shell height, although relative swimming speed (body lengths?sec?1) did not covary with shell height. The increase in absolute swimming speed was due to an increase in the distance covered during each valve clap as clap distance (cm?clap?1) also increased with shell height while clapping frequency (claps?sec?1) did not covary with animal size. Limaria fragilis displayed a variety of morphological changes related to size. Shell length was negatively allometric with shell height indicating the shell became proportionately slimmer in larger animals. Dry shell mass was negatively allometric with shell height, while both dry adductor muscle mass and dry mantle + tentacle mass were positively allometric. Autotomy of mantle tentacles significantly decreased clap distance by 13% without affecting clapping frequency or swimming speed.  相似文献

Swimming dynamics of the giant Australian cuttlefish, Sepia apama, were investigated using swimtunnel respirometry. Relationships between jet pressure, fin frequency, swimming speed and oxygen consumption were defined. Laboratory calibration of swimming parameters is necessary to allow estimates of swimming costs in the field.

Jet pressure was the best predictor of oxygen consumption with an averaged equation of MO2 = 722 (jet pressure) + 107 r2 = 0.51. Individually, fin frequency and jet pressure correlated highly to swimming speed, but due to the complicated usage of finning and jetting, the correlation between swimming speed and oxygen consumption was weaker. Cuttlefish were not optimal swimtunnel subjects and could not swim at high speeds for extended periods. At 15°C and a swimming speed of 0.06 m s-1, the gross cost of transport was calculated to be 10.1 kg-1 m -1, with a net cost of 4.1 kg-1 m-1.  相似文献

为探究雅砻江两种裂腹鱼的游泳能力,给过鱼设施设计和鱼类游泳行为学研究提供基础参数,本研究采用递增流速法对长丝裂腹鱼、齐口裂腹鱼的感应流速、临界游泳速度、突进游泳速度进行测试,采用固定流速法对长丝裂腹鱼的耐久游泳速度进行测试。结果表明: 长丝裂腹鱼与齐口裂腹鱼的感应流速随着体长的增加均出现了先增加后平稳的趋势,但最大感应流速均小于0.2 m·s-1;长丝裂腹鱼的临界游泳速度与突进游泳速度分别为(0.81±0.20)和(1.49±0.26) m·s-1,相对临界游泳速度为(4.90±1.73) BL·s-1,相对突进游泳速度为(9.77±1.72) BL·s-1(BL为体长);齐口裂腹鱼的临界游泳速度与突进游泳速度分别为(0.73±0.24)和(1.17±0.39) m·s-1,相对临界游泳速度为(6.88±2.82) BL·s-1,相对突进游泳速度为(11.75±2.77) BL·s-1。耐久测试发现,随着流速增加(0.7~1.5) m·s-1,长丝裂腹鱼持续游泳时间与水流速度呈负相关,疲劳时间(T)与水流速度(V)的关系可以拟合为lgT=-2.52V+5.59,预测鱼道长度(d)与鱼道内可通过的最大平均水流速度(Vfmax)的关系式为Vf max=-0.17lnd+1.74。根据试验结果,当以长丝裂腹鱼和齐口裂腹鱼为主要过鱼对象时,建议鱼道内最小水流速度应大于0.2 m·s-1,进口及竖缝处水流速度为0.73~1.67 m·s-1,休息池主流水流速度为0.2~0.7 m·s-1。  相似文献

Aims Anthropogenic pollutants cause an increase in ground-level ozone concentration, which is a known threat to plant growth and yield and has been extensively observed worldwide. Since ozone is only slightly soluble in water, it is deposited mainly through dry deposition in terrestrial ecosystem. The object of this study was to analyze the characteristics of ozone dry deposition and to estimate the contribution of stomatal and non-stomatal ozone deposition pathways to total ozone deposition in a winter wheat field.Methods The research site was a winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) field located in Yongfeng experimental station of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology. The data used in this study were collected from March 16, 2016 to May 30, 2016. We observed ozone dry deposition with an eddy-covariance system. This system mainly included a 3D sonic anemometer, an open-path infrared absorption spectrometer, a fast-response ozone chemiluminescent analyzer and a slow-response ozone monitor. We simultaneously measured meteorological data including solar radiation (SR), air temperature (T), air relativity humidity (RH), wind speed, net radiation, and rainfall. All raw data were recorded with data-logger and averaged every 30 min.Important findings Half hourly means of ozone concentrations (CO3), ozone flux (FO3) and ozone dry deposition velocity (Vd) in the winter wheat field were 32.9 nL·L-1, -5.09 nmol·m-2·s-1, 0.39 cm·s-1, and the ranges of them were 16-58 nL·L-1, -2.9- -11.7 nmol·m-2·s-1, 0.17-0.63 cm·s-1, respectively. FO3 and CO3/Vd were found to be mismatched with phase peaks occurring at different time intervals. The ecosystem was more effective on ozone dry deposition, under conditions of moderate to high SR (SR ≥ 400 W·m-2), moderate T and humility (T = 18 °C and RH > 40%). The relationship between Vdmax and SR was this function (y = 1.06 -exp (-0.0094 - x)). Vdmax increased with SR When SR < 400 W·m-2, and Vdmax reached its maximum when SR =400 W·m-2. Vdmax maintained its maximum when SR ≥ 400 W·m-2. The relationship between Vdmax and T was “bell” curve (y = 1.06 - (x - 18)2/169). Vdmax reached its maximum when T = 18 °C. Vdmax decreased with RH when RH < 40 % (y = 0.030x - 0.106). The variation of Vd might uncertainty when RH was high. There was a liner positive relationship between friction velocity (u*) and Vd, but this relationship was not significant. The mean day-to-day and daytime contributions of stomatal and non-stomatal ozone deposition pathway to total ozone deposition were 32%, 68% and 42%, 58%, respectively, during the whole experimental period.  相似文献

Circadian periodicity of swimming activity was investigated in two fish species, the zebrafish (Danio rerio) and the sunbleak (Leucaspius delineatus) under sublethal long-term exposure to the cyanobacteria toxin microcystin-LR (nominal concentrations of 0.5 μg l - 1, 5 μg l - 1, 15 μg l - 1, 50 μg l - 1) in 15-litre tanks. Swimming activity of fish was monitored continuously by using an automated video-monitoring and object-tracing system over a period of 17 days. Influenced by long-term exposure to microcystin-LR, Leucaspius delineatus reversed their significant diurnal swimming activity and the fish became statistically significant nocturnal. Danio rerio remained diurnal active, but a significant phase shift was registered. In both Danio rerio and Leucaspius delineatus analysis of time series by cosinor regression revealed microcystin-LR induced dose-dependent alterations of the mean of oscillation, amplitude, acrophase and period length in a different extent. For Danio rerio the periodogram analysis revealed a significant circadian component of swimming activity for control as well as exposure groups, whereby the spectral amplitude clearly decreased at microcystin-LR concentrations of 15 and 50 μg l - 1. For Leucaspius delineatus the amplitude of circadian rhythm was decreased at all exposure concentrations of MC-LR. Furthermore the dominance of circadian rhythm was clearly reduced, whereas the rate of ultradian rhythms increased at elevated MC-LR concentrations of 5 μg l - 1, 15 μg l - 1 and 50 μg l - 1. The studied temporal aspects of behaviour clearly indicated stress symptoms in both fish species, therefore it proved to be a relevant method to characterise the impact of toxic substances in the environment and for biomonitoring.  相似文献

Kinematic data of high spatial and temporal resolution, acquired from image sequences of adult long-finned squid, Loligo pealei, during steady swimming in a flume, were used to examine the role of fins and the coordination between fin and jet propulsion in squid locomotion. Fin shape and body outlines were digitized and used to calculate fin wave speed, amplitude, frequency, angle of attack, body deformation, speed, and acceleration. L. pealei were observed to have two fin gait patterns with a transition at 1.4-1.8 mantle lengths per second (Lm s-1) marked by alternation between the two patterns. Fin motion in L. pealei exhibited characteristics of both traveling waves and flapping wings. At low speeds, fin motion was more wave-like; at high speeds, fin motion was more flap-like and was marked by regular periods during which the fins were wrapped tightly against the mantle. Fin cycle frequencies were dependent on swimming speed and gait, and obvious coordination between the fins and jet were observed. Fin wave speed, angle of attack, and body acceleration confirmed the role of fins in thrust production and revealed a role of fins at all swimming speeds by a transition from drag-based to lift-based thrust when fin wave speed dropped below swimming speed. Estimates of peak fin thrust were as high as 0.44-0.96 times peak jet thrust in steady swimming over the range of swimming speeds observed. Fin downstrokes generally contributed more to thrust than did upstrokes, especially at high speeds.  相似文献

The prolonged swimming speed and metabolic rate of 0+ year Arctic grayling Thymallus articus were examined with respect to current velocity, water temperature and fish size, and compared to conditions fish occupy in the river. Oxygen consumption (mg O2 h−1) increased with fish mass and temperature (6–23° C), with a steep increase in metabolic rate between 12 and 16° C. Absolute prolonged swimming speed (cm s−1) increased rapidly with fish size (total length, L T, and mass), however, fish in the natural stream habitat occupied current velocities between 15 and 25 cm s−1 or 4  L T s−1, approximately half their potential prolonged swimming speed (10  L T s−1).  相似文献

Sustained swimming of bluefin tuna was analysed from video recordings made of a captive patrolling fish school [lengths (L) 1.7–3.3 m, body mass (M) 54–433 kg]. Speeds ranged from 0.6 to 1.2 L s−1 (86–260 km day−1) while stride length during steady speed swimming varied between 0.54 and 0.93 L. Maximum swimming speed was estimated by measuring twitch contraction of the anaerobic swimming muscle in pithed fish 5 min after death. Muscle contraction time increased from the shortest just behind the head (30–50 ms at 20% L) to the longest at the tail peduncle (80–90 ms at 80% L) (all at 28°C). A fish (L = 2.26 m) with a muscle contraction time of 50 ms at 25% L can have a maximum tail beat frequency of 10 Hz and maximum swimming speed of 15m s−1 (54km h−1) with a stride length of 0.65L. With a stride length of 1 L a speed of 22.6 m s−1 (81.4 km h−1) is possible. Power used at maximum speed was estimated for this fish at between 10 and 40 kW, with corresponding values for the drag coefficient at a Reynolds number of 4.43 × 107 of 0.0007 and 0.0027.  相似文献

丛枝菌根真菌(AMF)具有促进植物生长、增强植物耐重金属毒害及修复重金属污染生境的作用.本试验于模拟湿地系统中设0、5、10和20 mg·L-1镉浓度,对芦苇和狼尾草分别进行接种和不接种摩西斗管囊霉(Fm)、根内根孢囊霉(Ri)处理.结果表明: 镉污染降低了AMF侵染;接种AMF提高了芦苇和狼尾草的株高、干质量、叶绿素含量、地上部与根内的氮和镉含量,增强了根系对镉的富集能力,降低了镉转移系数.在5 mg·L-1镉处理下,接种Fm的芦苇处理的各项指标均高于其他处理,其AMF侵染率为60.6%,每毫米根长的侵入点和泡囊数分别为2.3和3.7;与不接种对照相比,接种Fm的芦苇地上部与根系干质量分别提高69.1%和75.0%,地上部与根系氮含量分别提高38.7%和27.8%,叶绿素含量和株高分别增加3.8%和11.1%.湿地系统镉浓度与植株地上部和根内的镉含量呈显著正相关.在20 mg·L-1镉处理下,接种Fm的芦苇地上部和根内镉含量达到最大值182.4和663.3 mg·kg-1,镉转移系数最低,为0.27,而富集系数最高,为0.55.Fm+芦苇是本试验条件下吸收富集污染水体中镉的最佳组合.  相似文献

The number of microorganisms in the hindgut of dugongs (Dugong dugon) were estimated and their in vitro volatile fatty acid (VFA) production and degradation of eelgrass measured. Scanning electron microscopy showed that some rod bacteria attached to the surface of plant tissue degraded and eroded the cell walls. Number of starch-, lactate-, cellobiose-, pectin-, xylan- and cellulose-utilizing bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria and methane-producing bacteria were estimated at 109 ∼ 1010 colony forming units g-1. Microorganisms degraded the cellulose and noncellulolytic components of the eelgrass, and about 47.3% of dry matter was degraded after 36 h in vitro incubation. The total VFA concentration was 10.5 mmol dL-1 at 36 h incubation, which included 55.7 mol% acetate, 18.0 mol% n-butyrate and 15.1 mol% propionate. The gas composition of in vitro fermentation was 68.4% carbon dioxide, 22.2% methane and 9.4% hydrogen.  相似文献

利用标准地法对八达岭林场人工林主要树种的生物量进行了测定,建立了油松(Pinus tabulaeformis)、黑桦(Betula dahurica Pall)、槺椴(Tilia mandshurica)、五角枫(Acer mono Maxim)及华北落叶松(Larix principis-rupprechtii)的生物量相对生长模型。结果表明,八达岭林场各主要树种生物量分配比例的大小顺序为:五角枫>油松>槺椴>黑桦>落叶松。各树种的生物量值为五角枫93.28 t/hm2>油松86.40 t/hm2>槺椴50.24 t/hm2>黑桦 36.05 t/hm2>落叶松20.21 t/hm2。5 个树种的总生物量为286.17 t/hm2。利用IPCC 模型计算结果表明不同树种在相同的时间下产生的生物量是不同的,并用实际数据指出生长模型的建立方法不同可能带来的生物量计算的差异。此研究结果可用于建立广泛适用的生长模型及在不同树种的生物量计算方面起到重要作用。  相似文献

The cost of swimming is a key component in the energy budgets of marine mammals. Unfortunately, data to derive predictive allometric equations are limited, and estimates exist for only one other species of otariid. Our study measured the oxygen consumption of three juvenile Steller sea lions ( Eumetopias jubatus ) swimming in a flume tank at velocities up to 2.2 m sec−1. Minimum measured cost of transport ranged from 3.5–5.3 J kg−1 m−1, and was reached at swimming speeds of 1.7–2.1 m s−1. These cost-of-transport values are higher than those reported for other marine mammals. However, once differences in stationary metabolic rate were accounted for, the locomotor costs (LC) for the Steller sea lions were commensurate with those of other marine mammals. Locomotor costs (LC in J m−1) appeared to be directly proportional to body mass (M in kg) such that LC = 1.651M1.01. These estimates for the cost of locomotion can be incorporated into bioenergetic models and used to determine the energetic consequences of observed swimming behavior in wild marine mammals.  相似文献

An annual nitrogen budget was established for a temperate back barrier salt-marsh system along a productivity gradient at low and high marsh elevation. We measured plant biomass and nitrogen content in three plant compartments to deduce plant N-allocation patterns. Measurements were done along a successional sequence in a salt-marsh system. In addition, N-mineralization, wet and dry atmospheric N-deposition and sediment N-deposition were measured.

Plant-species dominance changed along the successional sequence. In early stages, Elymus farctus and Spergularia media formed a large part of total plant biomass. Festuca rubra and Puccinellia maritima were dominant at intermediate stages, whereas Elymus pycnanthus and Limonium vulgare were dominant at late stages of succession. Shoot biomass was highest in June, whereas litter biomass was highest in September and December. Root biomass formed by far the largest fraction of total plant biomass, especially at a low-marsh elevation.

Wet deposition of nitrate and ammonium was 1.7 g N m−2 yr−1, whereas throughfall deposition (dry and wet deposition) amounted to 2.1–3.6 g N m−2 yr−1, and was positively related to the height of an artificial plant canopy. Sediment organic nitrogen deposition rate was 0.3–5.4 g N m−2 yr−1, and negatively related to marsh elevation. Nitrogen mineralization rate increased from 2.5–2.8 g N m−2 yr−1 in young marshes towards 8.0–12.7 g N m−2 yr−1 at older marshes, depending on marsh elevation.

At a low-marsh elevation, plant N-availability depended equally on tidal N, atmospheric N and mineralized N, especially in young marshes, whereas the decomposition pathway became more important in older marshes. Tidal N contributed most to ecoystem N-accumulation rate at early successional stages, whereas atmospheric N was more important at later stages. Tidal influence was low at high-marsh elevation sites. Here, atmospheric deposition was the dominant exogenous nitrogen source both in young and old marshes.  相似文献

Saithe Pollachius virens , tracked diurnally with a split-beam echosounder, showed no relationship between size and swimming speed. The average and the median swimming speeds were 1·05 m s−1(±0·09 m s−1) and 0·93 m s−1, respectively. However, ping-to-ping speeds up to 3·34 m s−1 were measured for 25–29 cm fish, whose swimming speeds were significantly higher at night (1·08 m s−1) than during the day (0·72 m s−1). The high average swimming speed could be related to the foraging or streaming part of the population and not to potential weakness of the methodology. However, the uncertainty of target location increased with depth and resulted in calculated average swimming speeds of 0·15 m s−1 even for a stationary target. With increasing swimming speed the average error decreased to 0 m s−1 for speeds >0·34 m s−1. Species identity was verified by trawling in a pelagic layer and on the bottom.  相似文献

1. We tested the hypothesis that the net partitioning of dry mass and dry mass:area relationships is unaltered when plants are grown at elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations.
2. The total dry mass of Dactylis glomerata, Bellis perennis and Trifolium repens was higher for plants in 700 compared to 350 μmol CO2 mol–1 when grown hydroponically in controlled-environment cabinets.
3. Shoot:root ratios were higher and leaf area ratios and specific leaf areas lower in all species grown at elevated CO2. Leaf mass ratio was higher in plants of B. perennis and D. glomerata grown at elevated CO2.
4. Whilst these data suggest that CO2 alters the net partitioning of dry mass and dry mass:leaf area relationships, allometric comparisons of the components of dry mass and leaf area suggest at most a small effect of CO2. CO2 changed only two of a total of 12 allometric coefficients we calculated for the three species: ν relating shoot to root dry mass was higher in D. glomerata , whilst ν relating leaf area to total dry mass was lower in T. repens .

于2015年8月末在陕西神木县六道沟小流域采集200个柠条和210个沙柳枝条,测定枝条的基径(D)、长度(H)、含水量(W0)、鲜质量(WF)和干质量(W),选用指数函数和异速生长方程建立了4种由枝条形态指标估算枝条生物量的简易模型,并对模型的拟合效果进行验证. 结果表明: 对于柠条和沙柳灌丛,基于DH二者组合变量(D2H)的异速生长方程是估算枝条生物量的最优模型,该模型经线性转化后可以消除生物量数据的异方差性,且拟合效果最优,决定系数(R2)最大,平均误差(ME)、平均绝对误差(MAE)、总相对误差(TRE)、平均系统误差(MSE)和平均绝对百分误差(MPSE)整体上最小,基本满足生态学研究的精度要求.  相似文献

In Lake Constance from September 1986 to May 1988 13 adult lake dwelling brown trout ( Sulmo trutta L.) were tagged with ultrasonic transmitters and tracked almost continuously for up to 13 days. Two behaviour types were observed: (a) random movement in locally restricted areas and (b) excursions of up to 40 km distance. Swimming activity during the day was significantly higher than at night in most experiments. In summer swimming depth ranged between 8 and 16 m, and in winter between 0 and 3m. The preferred water temperature was about 14°C in the thermally stratified waterbody. During the experiments mean swimming speed ranged between 0.3 km h−1 (0.1 bodylengths s−1) and 0.9 km h−1 (0.6 bodylengths s−1).  相似文献

The initial rate and enantioselectivity of enzymatic asymmetric hydrolysis of amino acid esters were examined in methylimidazolium-based ionic liquids with anions including tetrafluoroborate, chloride, bromide and bisulfate and in typical organic solvents. Papain displayed much higher enantioselectivity but lower activity in phosphate buffer solution of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate BMIM·BF4 than in other media tested (i.e. E=100, V 0=0.21 mM min-1 in BMIM·BF4, E=2, V 0=0.43 mM min-1 in phosphate buffer, E=14-92, V 0=0.22-0.25 mM min-1 in organic solvents for D,L-phenylglycine methyl ester). The influence of BMIM·BF4 on enzyme activity and enantioselectivity also varied with the substrate and the enzyme used. All of the enzymes assayed showed no activity or low enantioselectivity in the ILs with anions including chloride, bromide and bisulfate.  相似文献
