A pilot study with regard to the distribution and expression of isovitexin glycosylation genes in Silene dioica showed that in this species, like in S. pratensis, a large variation in expression and substrate specificty exists for these genes. From S. dioica populations from Finland, Poland, Czechoslovakia, W. Germany, France and England a single plant was tested for allelic variation on the isovitexin glycosylation loci g, f and gl. In the English population a new allele of the g-locus, gA, with a different substrate specificity was identified. In the plant taken from the population in Poland a new allele glR1 was identified which was hypostatic to the allele glR known from S. pratensis. In Germany, a new allele gX1 was identified which is hypostatic over gX from S. pratensis. With regard to the isovitexin-glycoside phenotype the populations from Finland, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and England were homogeneous, whereas the populations of W. Germany and France showed variation. The mechanisms leading to this variation and their significance were discussed.  相似文献

Three of the loci controlling isovitexin glycosylation inSilene pratensis are polymorphic and show geographic trends which are compared with geographic trends in seed morphology (and other phenotypic characters) as demonstrated by multivariate analysis. Various lines of evidence support the hypothesis thatS. pratensis spread into Europe from at least two genetically differentiated sources.S. dioica, by contrast, shows little interpretable geographic variation in morphology or flavonoid content.  相似文献

Summary The concerted action of two flavone-skeleton modifying genes, P and Me, and the alleles of three independently segregating loci g, gl and fg involved in flavone-glycosylation lead to the 33 different flavones so far identified in Silene. The alleles of the different loci involved in flavone-glycosylation control enzymes which differ in substrate specificity, a phenomenon not often described in higher organisms. The alleles of the different loci are variously distributed over the different species. The possible evolutionary implications of these distributions are discussed.  相似文献

Variation in coat colour genotypes of archaeological cattle samples from Finland was studied by sequencing 69 base pairs of the extension locus (melanocortin 1‐receptor, MC1R) targeting both a transition and a deletion defining the three main alleles, such as dominant black (ED), wild type (E+) and recessive red (e). The 69‐bp MC1R sequence was successfully analysed from 23 ancient (1000–1800 AD) samples. All three main alleles and genotype combinations were detected with allele frequencies of 0.26, 0.17 and 0.57 for ED, E+ and e respectively. Recessive red and dominant black alleles were detected in both sexes. According to the best of our knowledge, this is the first ancient DNA study defining all three main MC1R alleles. Observed MC1R alleles are in agreement with calculated phenotype frequencies from historical sources. The division of ancient Finnish cattle population into modern Finnish breeds with settled colours was dated to the 20th century. From the existing genotyped populations in Europe (43 breeds, = 2360), the closest match to ancient MC1R genotype frequencies was with the Norwegian native multicoloured breeds. In combined published genotype data of ancient (= 147) and genotypes and phenotypes of modern Nordic cattle (= 738), MC1R allele frequencies showed temporal changes similar to neutral mitochondrial DNA and Y‐chromosomal haplotypes analysed earlier. All three markers indicate major change in genotypes in Nordic cattle from the Late Iron Age to the Medieval period followed by slower change through the historical periods until the present.  相似文献

Summary Genetic variation in the C1R subcomponent of the first complement component C1 was investigated in U.S. whites by isoelectric focusing and immunoblotting. In addition to the previously described two alleles, the products of a new and rare third allele designated C1R *3 were detected. The expression of the new allele is consistent with autosomal codominant inheritance, which is confirmed by family data. The frequencies of the C1R *1, C1R *2 and C1R *3 alleles in 201 randomly selected U.S. whites are: 0.908, 0.090, and 0.002, respectively.  相似文献

Paris tetraphylla has a greater diversity of pollen exine sculpture than was previously thought. On the basis of 357 plants from 52 localities of Japan, we distinguished seven sculpture types that are tentatively referred to here as G1, G2, G3, R1, R2, R3 and S. G1, G2 and G3 have gemmate sculpture in which the gemmae are characteristically large, medium and small in size, respectively; likewise, R1, R2 and R3, have coarsely to finely ruglate sculpture; and S, scrobiculate sculpture. In general, any one of the seven types always or predominantly occurs in each plant, thus allowing us to make comparisons among plants and further among local populations. We thus found that G2 and G3, respectively, are the most and the second most widespread and occur in plants of 41 and 22 respectively, of the localities examined, although their frequencies differ with locality. Generally R3 occurs in plants distributed at higher latitudes, while R2 is rather widespread and common to plants growing on high mountains. G1 and R1 are restricted to plants occurring south of Ibaraki Pref. and north of Gunma Pref., respectively. Such localized distributional patterns of some types may reflect the reproductive nature and the history of geographical isolation inParis tetraphylla over the Japanese Islands.  相似文献

Serpentine soils are rich in heavy metals and have a distinctive flora. Silene dioica is a member of the Scandinavian serpentine plant community but is also widespread outside serpentine soils. To study the population genetic consequences of serpentine stress and the origin and evolution of serpentine populations we analyzed the isozyme genetic structure of S. dioica. Seventeen populations located in the mountains of Västerbotten and Jämtland, central Sweden, were investigated by starch gel enzyme electrophoresis. About one half of the populations grow in serpentine soils and the rest on adjacent non-serpentine sites. Analyses of allele frequencies show that both serpentine and non-serpentine populations in the northern part of the studied area (Västerbotten) are genetically similar. Evidently serpentine does not exert strong selection acting upon isozyme loci. In the south (Jämtland), however, the serpentine populations exhibit genetic differentiation. This allozyme divergence is probably not due to direct selection but rather represents the effects of isolation and genetic drift. The results suggest that S. dioica has colonized serpentine repeatedly and that the tolerant populations have a multiple origin.  相似文献

Background: Apolipoprotein E (apoE) with three major alleles E2, E3 and E4 is one of the critical genes in lipid metabolism. Common apoE alleles are in association with an increase in risk for central nervous and cardiovascular diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, hyperlipoproteinemia and stroke. ApoE3 is known as the most frequent allele in all populations, while association of apoE gene polymorphism with reported diseases have mostly been related to other two major alleles especially apoE4. Objective: To determine of apoE alleles frequencies in Southern Iran and comparison of those frequencies with other populations. Methods: DNA was extracted from the whole blood of 198 healthy unrelated candidates from population of Fars Province, Southern Iran, for apoE genotyping who were checked up by a physician. The frequencies of apoE alleles were compared with other populations by χ2 test. Results: The frequencies of E2, E3 and E4 were 0.063, 0.886 and 0.051 respectively. These values were similar to those reported from populations of Kuwait, Oman, Lebanon, India, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Sardinia Islands of Italy and two Iranian populations but were different from South of Italy and Caucasians in other Europe regions, American, American-Indian, African, East Asian and Saudi populations (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The frequency of E4 allele as a genetic risk factor for some multifactorial diseases in the population of Southern Iran is in the lowest reported amounts in the world. Iranian population has Caucasoid origin but differs from some Caucasian populations in Europe and America. The results of present study are in agreement with the historical evidences which show admixture of Iranian population with other populations and some studies based on genetic polymorphisms in the population of Southern Iran.  相似文献

Sea trout (Salmo trutta) is an anadromous form of brown trout, a commercially important salmonid species in Europe. Stocking has been used to compensate for the decrease of natural populations and maintenance of fishery and angling catches. Over 1.5 million smolts and 4.5 million alevins are released to Polish coastal rivers each year. Variation at 7 microsatellite loci (Ssa197, Ssa171, Ssa85, Str15, Str73, Str591, and Str543) was used to study genetic polymorphism of spawners returning to 6 rivers. Application of distance method for comparison of pairs of populations based on number of different alleles (F ST) revealed significant differences between Vistula and Wieprza, and Parseta as well as between Drweca and Wieprza, and Slupia. The level of heterozygosity was similar between most of the studied sea trout populations; considerable differences were found only for Str591. Differences in frequencies of a few alleles between populations were observed. An exact test of sample differentiation based on allele frequencies confirmed lack of significance of differentiation between the 6 pairs of populations (F ST and R ST). No admixture was observed in the studied populations. Possible effects of stocking on the genetic polymorphism of the sea trout populations in wild with implications for biotechnology are discussed.  相似文献

The closely related dioecious herbs Silene latifolia and Silene dioica are widespread and predominantly sympatric in Europe. The species are interfertile, but morphologically and ecologically distinct. A study of large‐scale patterns of plastid DNA (polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism) haplotypes in a sample of 198 populations from most of the European ranges of both species revealed extensive interspecific haplotype sharing. Four of the 28 detected haplotypes were frequent (found in > 40 populations) and widespread. Three of these frequent haplotypes occurred in both species and the geographic distribution of each haplotype was broadly congruent in both species. Each of these three, shared and widespread haplotypes is likely to have colonized central and/or northern Europe after the last glaciation from one or more of refugial areas in southern Europe. Interspecific hybridization and plastid introgression within refugial regions and/or during the early stages of postglacial expansion is the most plausible explanation for the broadly similar distribution patterns of the shared, frequent chloroplast haplotypes in the two species. The fourth frequent, widespread haplotype was absent from S. latifolia and almost entirely restricted to Nordic S. dioica. It is most likely that this haplotype spread into the Nordic countries from a central or northern European source or from a refugial area in Russia. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 161 , 153–170.  相似文献

Summary The octanol dehydrogenase (Odh) and acid phosphatase (Acph) loci of Drosophila melanogaster are each polymorphic for two electrophoretically detectable alleles. The frequencies of the Odh and Acph alleles have been analysed in populations sampled from up to a 40 ° latitudinal range in each of Australasia, North America and Europe/Asia. Odh S frequency is found to be significantly negatively associated with distance from the equator in all three zones. The relationship of Acph S frequency to distance from the equator is significant and negative in Australasia but neither significant nor consistent in sign in North America and Europe/Asia.  相似文献

Mielichhoferia elongata, one of the so-called “copper mosses,” has a broad but highly disjunctive geographic distribution and is rare throughout its range. A genetic analysis of 30 populations based on a survey of 21 allozyme loci reveals the following. 1) Total gene diversity at the specific level is high (0.41). 2) Within-population diversity is low, and over 90% of all genetic variation is among rather than within populations (mean GST = 0.93). 3) There is little differentiation in allele frequencies between North American and European populations. 4) Populations consist of one to six multilocus genotypes; 13 of the populations appear to consist of a single clone. 5) Colorado populations contain a tremendous reservoir of genetic variation (88% of all alleles found in the species in North America and Europe occur in one or more Colorado populations). 6) Populations in the eastern and western United States, and in Europe, contain subsets of the allelic diversity found in Colorado. The genetic structure of M. elongata suggests repeated dispersal and founding of populations.  相似文献

Allele and genotype frequencies of the ?174G/C polymorphism (rs1800795) in the regulatory region of the IL6 gene, which encode anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin 6, were determined in seven populations representing five ethnic groups from the European part of Russia (440 individuals), as well as in small cohorts that represent populations from 24 countries of Africa and Eurasia (365 individuals). The maps of the geographic distribution of the ?174G/C allele frequencies were constructed based on personal (22 populations) and the literature data (66 populations), and the data from dbSNP database obtained by the HapMap project (10 populations). The frequency of the ?174G allele varied from 45 to 100% and was characterized by nonrandom geographic distribution. These data could reflect the adaptive load of the alleles examined, which was different in different regions of the world. It is suggested that the level of pathogen prevalence is one of the environmental factors that determine different adaptive values of the IL6*-174G/C alleles. This suggestion is supported by a positive correlation between the ?174G allele frequency and level of pathogen prevalence calculated based on historical data (R = 0.768; p < 0.0001).  相似文献

Multilocus outcrossing rates were estimated in natural and experimental populations of Salvia pratensis, an entomophilous, gynodioecious, protandrous perennial. Male steriles were used to check the estimation procedure of outcrossing rates in hermaphrodites. Estimates of outcrossing rates in hermaphroditic plants ranged from 38.2% to 81.8% in natural populations and from 71.5% to 95.5% in experimental populations. No correlations were found between outcrossing rates and population size. However, outcrossing in hermaphrodites was promoted by high plant densities and low frequencies of male steriles. It is argued that effective management to preserve genetic variation in populations of S. pratensis should provide for the maintenance of high plant densities.  相似文献

The relative importance of floral versus ecological isolation in preventing introgression remains unclear. This study examines whether ecological isolation can explain the continuing integrity of Silene dioica and S. latifolia where floral isolation is weak and hybrids are fully viable. Eighteen small replicate founder populations of 6 individuals (3 males and 3 females) of either S. latifolia, S. dioica or hybrids were created in woodland and in open sites in southern UK. Survival, reproduction and introgression of these populations were examined over 9 years. S. latifolia and hybrid plants suffered higher mortality than S. dioica in woodland. In open sites, there was extensive introgression, with few or no pure S. latifolia or S. dioica surviving by the end of the experiment. The experiment suggests that the integrity of S. dioica is maintained by its ability to survive in shaded habitats where S. latifolia and hybrids cannot persist. However, how S. latifolia survives as a distinct species in the study area remains a puzzle. Immigration from regions where S. latifolia occurs in isolation (i.e. large-scale ecological isolation) may balance introgression in the study area.  相似文献

This seventh and last paper in a series on the distribution of blood groups among Indians in South America reports the findings among Amerinds in Argentina. Blood specimens were procured from putative full-bloods of the following tribes: 38 Diaguita (Calchaqui), 230 Mataco, 90 Chiriguano, 142 Choroti, 51 Toba, 120 Chané, 96 Chulupi (Ashluslay), and 178 Araucano (Mapuche). These 945 samples were tested for blood factors in the A-B-O, M-N-S-s, P, Rh-Hr, K-k, Lewis, Duffy, Kidd, and Diego systems. Serum samples were tested for haptoglobins and transferrins. Hemolysates prepared from whole blood were tested for hemoglobin types. The results are presented in tables as phenotype distribution and calculated allele frequencies. Locations of the populations from which blood samples were procured are shown on a map of North and Central Argentina. High frequencies are reported for the O allele. Allele frequencies are high also for M, s, R1 (CDe), R2 (cDE), k, LeH and Fy. They are usually low or absent for alleles B, N, S, Mia, Vw, Ro (cDe), r (cde), K, Le1, and fy. The Di allele ranged from 0.013 in the Araucano (Mapuche) to 0.192 in the Toba. Allele frequencies aberrant for Indians were observed more often in the Araucano (Mapuche) and Diaguita tribes, due probably to greater inflow of non-Indian genes into their gene pool and perhaps also to genetic drift in small inbred populations. Hp1 allele frequencies varied from 0.43 in the Choroti to 0.80 in the Diaguita. All samples tested for transferrins except six contained the variant Tf C; the six were B1 C present in samples from one Mataco and six Araucano persons. All the specimens tested electrophoretically for hemoglobin types contained only (A) as a major component.  相似文献

The chromosome O of Drosophila subobscura was studied with respect to genetic variability at three enzyme loci (Odh, Me, and Lap-4) and with respect to inversion polymorphism. Population samples were taken from seven localities along a north-south gradient from Sweden and Scotland to Tunisia. The chromosomal analysis revealed clinal frequency changes for gene arrangements from north to south. With the enzyme loci Odh and Me allele frequencies are similar throughout the distribution range. Both loci are located outside the common inversion complex O3+4. On the other hand, frequency changes parallel to those of the gene arrangements were observed for the alleles of the Lap-locus. Nonrandom associations between Lap-alleles and the superimposed gene arrangements OST, O3+4, O3+4+8, and O3+4+23 were found. These gene arrangements differ from each other with respect to allele frequencies at the Lap-locus but for a given gene arrangement the relative frequencies of Lap-alleles remain relatively constant along the north-south gradient. Thus allele frequencies at the Lap-locus can be predicted from inversion frequencies. These observations can be interpreted in such a way that the pattern of allozyme variation within gene arrangements is due to founder effects caused by the unique origin of inversions. The gene blocks in the different inversions seem to represent more or less separated gene pools. In polymorphic populations the coexistence of genetically differentiated inversions presumably gives rise to heterotic interaction.  相似文献

New G-banded karyotypes from populations of the common shrew Sorex araneus Linnaeus, 1758 provide a clearer picture of the distribution of chromosome races in central Europe. As expected according to their occurrence in neighbouring countries, the Jutland (kq, no), Laska (k/o) and Drnholec (ko, nr) races are also found in Germany. A new chromosome race “Rügen” (kq) is described from this Baltic Island. Together with the previously recorded races Ulm and Mooswald (kr), six chromosome races are now known from Germany. The resulting distribution pattern is characterized by high frequencies of different race-specific metacentrics at the periphery of the country and clines with decreasing frequencies towards the centre which is occupied by the Ulm race. This race is acrocentric for all chromosome arms involved in the observed race-specific fusions and represents a buffer between the surrounding, more metacentric races. According to the present distribution of these metacentrics, a scenario for the postglacial recolonization of central Europe by S.araneus populations on three different routes is proposed: from the east along the northern slopes of the Carpathian Arc, from the south-east along the Danube Valley and from the south-west through the Upper Rhine Valley.  相似文献

The dissemination of stolbur phytoplasma (16Sr‐XIIA group)‐induced yellows diseases depends on the dispersal biology and host plant fidelity of the planthopper vector Hyalesthes obsoletus (Hemiptera: Cixiidae). We analysed the degree of these two properties in H. obsoletus by studying its population genetic structure and stolbur infection rates relative to the two major host plants, Convolvolus arvensis and Urtica dioica, in order to infer relevant divisions for stolbur epidemiology in Swiss viticultural regions. Three regional populations with the potential to determine stolbur epidemiology in distinct ways were identified. First, populations associated with U. dioica in northern Switzerland were most related to genetically distinct U. dioica host race populations identified previously in Germany. Second, populations in central and southwest Switzerland were undifferentiated relative to host plant and likely have wider stolbur transmission breadths than the northern specialized populations. Third, populations in south of the Alps (Ticino) were undifferentiated relative to host plant but geographically isolated from other Swiss regions, thus implying separate population dynamics in this area. The knowledge of these three distinct epidemiological cycles will help to adapt management programmes against stolbur diseases in Swiss vineyards.  相似文献

To study the degree of interpopulational differentiation and racial admixture in Africanized honeybees, we collected worker bees from three regions of Brazil (the northeast, the state of Sao Paulo, and Porto Alegre) and from Uruguay and determined their genotypes for 10 enzyme loci. We also performed a morphometric analysis on forewing measurements of worker bees from the northeast and Porto Alegre regions of Brazil and from Paysandu, Uruguay. Comparative analysis of interpopulational heterogeneity snowed that there are significant differences, especially at the Mdh locus, among the populations from different regions. An increase in the frequency of the MdhB allele was observed from north to south, with predominance in the Uruguayan populations. A small component of interpopulational variability was detected in the populations studied. Racial admixture was calculated from information obtained for Mdh in Africa and Europe. The percentages of racial admixture differed slightly but significantly among Brazilian regions. The morphometric study based on canonical variables exhibited a similar pattern. The greater proportions of Apis mellifera adansonii alleles in the admixture may be explained by selection during the initial stage of migration of Africanized bees and by preferential mating between individuals of the same race. Differences in the proportions of A. m. adansonii alleles between regions indicate incipient populational differentiation of Africanized bees. We suggest that greater gene flow from the European races in the south of Brazil could be one of the causes of this phenomenon.  相似文献
