To characterise the physiology of development and senescence for Grevillea Sylvia floral organs, respiration, ethylene production and ACC concentrations in harvested flowers and flower parts were measured. The respiration rate of harvested inflorescences decreased over time during senescence. In contrast, both ethylene production and ACC concentration increased. Individual flowers, either detached from cut inflorescences held in vases at 20 °C or detached from in planta inflorescences at various stages of development, had similar patterns of change in ACC concentration and rates of respiration and ethylene production as whole inflorescences. The correlation between ACC concentration and ethylene production by individual flowers detached from cut inflorescences held in vases was poor (r2 = 0.03). The isolated complete gynoecium (inclusive of the pedicel) produced increasing amounts of ethylene during development. Further sub-division of flower parts and measurement of their ethylene production at various stages of development revealed that the distal part of the gynoecium (inclusive of the stigma) had the highest rate of ethylene production. In turn, anthers had higher rates of ethylene production and also higher ACC concentrations than the proximal part of the gynoecium (inclusive of the ovary). Rates of ethylene production and ACC concentrations for tepal abscission zone tissue and adjacent central tepal zone tissue were similar. ACC concentration in pollen was similar to that in senescing perianth tissue. Overall, respiration, ethylene and ACC content measurements suggest that senescence of G. Sylvia is non-climacteric in character. Nonetheless, the phytohormone ethylene is produced and evidently mediates normal flower development and non-climacteric senescence processes.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted during the summer of 1988 to test the hypothesis that water deficit affects the abscisic acid (ABA) and indole acetic acid (IAA) concentrations in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) flower buds in ways that predispose young fruits (bolls) that subsequently develop from them to increased abscission rates. Water deficit had little effect on the ABA content of flower buds but increased the ABA content of flowers as much as 66%. Water deficit decreased the concentrations of free and conjugated IAA in flower buds during the first irrigation cycle but increased them during the second cycle. Flowers contained much less IAA than buds. Water deficit slightly increased the conjugated IAA content of flowers but had no effect on the concentration of free IAA in flowers. Because water deficit slightly increased the ABA content but did not decrease the IAA content of flowers, any carry-over effect of water deficit on young boll shedding might have been caused by changes in ABA but not from changes in IAA.  相似文献

The activity of peroxidases in the proximal part of the flower peduncle of rose cv. Nubia was promoted by exogenous application of auxin but not by gibberellin or cytokinin. In cv. Mercedes the activity was promoted also by gibberellin and cytokinin. In the distal parts of the peduncles of both cultivars, peroxidase activity was not affected by any of the applied growth regulators. In young flowers of cv. Nubia the protein content of the penduncles was affected only by cytokinin, and in aged flowers only by auxin, while in Mercedes peduncles the content of protein was not affected by any of the applied growth regulators. The specific activity of peroxidases was promoted by auxin in peduncles of Nubia and by both auxin and cytokinin in peduncles of Mercedes flowers.  相似文献

Seed weights at specific positions within inflorescences of field bean plants (Vicia faba L.) were varied by removal of flowers. The inflorescences of two regions (nodes 3+4 and nodes 5+6, counted from the bottom of the plant) were used for manipulations and investigations. The two proximal flowers of the manipulated inflorescence were removed in order to vary the development and seed weights of distal pods (see Fig. 1). Dry matter accumulation and IAA- and ABA-concentrations in seeds were investigated during the filling period. Treatment effects in both regions were similar during two seasons. The removal of proximal flowers prevented the usually observed drop of distal pods and favoured the accumulation of dry matter and IAA in seeds, whereas the variation of ABA-concentrations partly depended on interaction with season. Whether these effects contribute to a signal leading to the establishment of processes preceeding dry matter accumulation or are a consequence of such processes is questionable.  相似文献

Abscission of flowers in Lupinus luteus L. (var. Weiko II) withoutgrowth of ovaries is followed by abscission of small pods (15–20mm. long). Normally flower abscission is much more pronouncedthan pod abscission. Abscission was delayed on plants from which laterals or theirterminal and axifliary buds were removed. Flower abscissionwas not affected, but pod abscission increased as a result ofdefoliation. When flowers at the base of the main inflorescence were replacedby auxins and anti-auxins flower abscission was induced in eitheran auxin pattern in which most of the flowers near the siteof application dropped, and pods developed on the apical whorls,or an anti-auxin pattern in which pods developed on basal whorlsnear the site of application but not higher up. The anti-auxinpattern was similar to the pattern of abscission normally inducedby developing pods on basal whorls. -Naphthylacetic acid (NAA) was much more effective in inducingabscission than ß-indolylacetic acid (IAA). 2:3:5-triiodobenzoicacid (TIBA), NAA, and IAA applied in mixtures at various concentrationsacted mainly antagonistically, i.e. the abscission-inducingeffect of NAA and LAA was depressed in basal whorls, and inapical whorls the effect of TIBA was less prevalent. Consequentlythe effect of the mixtures on the total number of pods was aboutequal to that of the most active component by itself. All growth substances seemed to move much more efficiently inacropetal direction than in basipetal direction in the flowerstalk. Transport in lateral direction was very limited. The effect of growth substances applied on laterals was enhancedby defoliating the main 8tem. The influence of assimilates on flower and pod abscission andtransport of growth substances is discussed.  相似文献

Factors Affecting Shedding of Flowers in Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Flower shedding in soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill, was studiedusing cultivar ‘Clark’, isoline E1t, which has relativelylong racemes for convenient identification and observation ofindividual flowers. On each raceme studied, pod set was greatestat the proximal (basal) positions, whereas shedding was greatestat the most distal positions. When proximal flowers were removedas they reached anthesis, pod set increased at the more distalpositions. Pod set was increased in some instances by applicationof water directly to the ovaries as a drop in the calyx cup.Peroxidase activity changed in parallel with ovary development,increasing rapidly in growing pods but not in shedding flowers.Increases in flower peroxidase was mainly in ovary walls. Flowerstaken at or near anthesis from positions with high percent podset could be grown in vitro with especially good ovary enlargement,whereas ovaries in flowers taken from positions of low pod setdid not enlarge in culture. Unidentified substances were extracted from young pods which,when incorporated into lanolin and tested in an in situ bioassay,could mimic the effect of proximal flowers in inducing sheddingof distal flowers. Indole-3-acetic acid resembled the extractedmaterials in inducing shedding, but differed by eliciting side-effectsthat extracts did not. The growth substances abscisic acid,gibberellic acid, and benzyladenine did not promote sheddingin the in situ test. The evidence was taken to indicate that soybean flower sheddingis induced in distal flowers by substances from the more proximal,fertilized ovaries, and that this is possibly due to interferencewith some of the intense metabolic changes that follow pollinationand fertilization.  相似文献

One of the hypotheses proposed for the abscission of flowersand fruits from the cowpea was that the oldest fruits at raceme1 on the peduncle monopolize the mobile nutrients availableto the whole inflorescence. Consequently, the distal young fruitsand flowers starve, abort, and are shed. This hypothesis wastested through autoradiographic studies of the distributionof 14C-assimilates on the cowpea inflorescence and the comparativegrowth of ovaries from persisting and abscising open flowersand young fruits. 14C-asaimilates were distributed to the fruits at raceme 1 andto flower buds, open flowers, and young fruits distal to raceme1. Therefore, the hypothesis that the fruits at raceme 1 monopolizethe mobile assimilates cannot be maintained. At the time of opening the persisting flowers of raceme 1 hadheavier ovaries than the aborting flowers of raceme 3 althoughboth types of flowers were visually alike. During the initial12 h following opening, the difference in ovary size was maintainedand often accentuated. The ovary of the persisting flower increasedin both fresh and dry weights. The growth of the ovary of theaborting flower was variable; the fresh weight often decreased,although it also increased in some experiments; the dry weightremained unchanged or decreased or increased remarkably. The availability of nutrients was considered to be of secondaryimportance in the chain of events leading to fruit abscission.Other internal factors which may control vital processes relatedto embryo development appear to be of primary, underlying importance.  相似文献

The effect of temperature on production and abscission of flowerbuds, flowers and pods was studied in a determinate snap-beancultivar (cv. Tenderette). Under moderate temperature (e.g.27/17°C) the onset of pod development was associated withcessation of flower bud production and with enhanced abscissionof flower buds. Raising night temperature from 17°C to 27°Cstrongly reduced pod production, mature pod size and seeds perpod, while an increase in day temperature from 22°C to 32°Chad smaller and less consistent effects. Pod production underhigh night temperature was not constrained by flower productionsince 27°C at night promoted branching and flower bud appearance.Under 32/27°C day/night temperature the large reductionin pod set was due to enhanced abscission of flower buds, flowersand young pods ( 3 cm). Flowers had the highest relative abscissionfollowed by young pods and flower buds. Therefore, the onsetof anthesis and of pod development were the plant stages mostsensitive to night temperature. Pods larger than 3 cm did notabscise but usually aborted and shrivelled under high nighttemperature. The effects of 32/27°C were not due to transientwater stresses and were observed even under continuous irrigationand mist-spraying. A decline in growth, flowering, and boll (fruit) retention is referred to as cutout in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Fruit load affects cutout, possibly through hormonal effects. Experiments were conducted to test the hypothesis that fruits are a source of abscisic acid (ABA) that moves into fruiting branches and growing points where it inhibits growth, flowering, and boll retention. Removal of the flower or young boll at the first node of fruiting branches did not decrease the ABA content of fruiting branches or the abscission zone at the second node. Effects on ABA content of the boll at the second node varied. In one field test, ABA content of bolls at the second node decreased with successive harvests as bolls were removed from first node positions of several fruiting branches. Thus, the effect was cumulative and was not limited to individual branches. Removal of the flower or boll at the first node increased boll retention at the second node. Removal of all flowers during the first 3 weeks of flowering delayed the decreases in growth, flowering, and boll retention that occurred as fruit load increased. But, the ABA content of fruiting branches and mainstem apices was not decreased by early defruiting and did not increase with increasing fruit load. The results do not support the hypothesis that fruits are a source of ABA that moves into fruiting branches and growing points where it then inhibits growth, flowering, and boll retention.  相似文献

A large number of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.)flowers and young pods abscise rather than develop into mature pods. Flower andpod drop or abortion accounts for the majority of total reproductive abscissionand influences potential soybean yield. The objectives of this study were todetermine the patterns of flower, pod and seed development under treatmentswiththe growth regulators, 2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) propanoic acid (2,4-DP) and6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), applied at the early reproductive stages, and toexamine the association of reproductive abscission with growth characteristicsand agronomic traits, including seed yield and seed weight. Small seeded [cvPungsan (11.1±0.4 g100-seed–1)] and large seeded [cv Manlee(21.0±0.5 g 100-seed–1)]genotypes were separately planted in the greenhouse and field, and treated witheither 2,4-DP or BAP. 2,4-DP (a synthetic auxin) and BAP (a syntheticcytokinin)were each applied at three concentrations (i.e. high, intermediate or low):0.12mM, 0.08 mM, 0.04 mM, and 1.5mM, 1 mM, 0.5 mM respectively. High andlow concentrations were employed for greenhouse experiments to examine thenumber of flowers per plant in pots. With the exception of low BAP (0.5mM) treatment in Pungsan, all treatments increased total podnumberwith various numbers of seeds per pod. Low 2,4-DP (0.04 mM) inbothgenotypes or BAP (0.5 mM) in Manlee significantly reduced flowerabortion and delayed abscission of pods in both genotypes, resulting inincreased pod setting rates. Under field conditions using intermediateconcentrations, 1 mM BAP significantly increased 100-seed weightto22.3 g at R1 in Manlee and 11.9 g at R3 in Pungsan.BAP (1 mM) at R3 in Pungsan significantly improved seed yield(40.1g plant–1). Maturity was not significantlyaffected by either application in Manlee, but was significantly affected by BAPin Pungsan. In Pungsan, 2,4-DP increased pod number, plant height and nodenumber, but decreased 100-seed weight in Pungsan treated at R1, causing nosignificant change of seed yield. This study suggested that exogenousregulatorssignificantly influenced reproductive and growth characteristics, andconsequently seed yield, but increase of pod number was not always beneficialfor seed yield.  相似文献

Three new species of BrazilianDendropanax from the rain forests of Bahia state are described and illustrated.Dendropanax amorimii, endemic to the rain forests near Boa Nova, in southern Bahia, is characterized by compound umbellate inflorescences with elongated primary branches each having a proximal whorl of bracts, and by leaves with well-developed tertiary venation.Dendropanax bahiensis, endemic to the Atlantic rain forests of southern Bahia, is distinguished by its large and membranous leaves with reddish schizogenous glands on the abaxial surface and by the reduced and branched inflorescences with short-pedicellate flowers and large fruits.Dendropanax geniculatus, an endemic species from the “matas de grotão” of Serra da Chapadinha, Chapada Diamantina, is characterized by simple and usually geniculate inflorescences bearing long-pedicellate flowers and fruits.  相似文献

In vitro cultivated pear, Pyrus communis L. cv. Beurré Hardy, pedicels cut above their primary abscission layer can form a secondary abscission layer, especially under the influence of auxins or cytokinins in the culture medium. The maximum percentage of abscission reached by auxin application was always higher than that by cytokinin. The presence of the flower was of no consequence to the abscission. Characteristic differences in abscission were observed between pear and apple pedicels. In contrast to apple (1) secondary abscission in pear could also be induced by cytokinins, and (2) the site of abscission in pear was dependent on the auxin concentration. At lower auxin concentrations abscission was induced in the basal parts of the pedicels inserted in the medium, whereas at higher auxin concentrations the abscission layer was formed in the terminal parts of the pedicels above the culture medium. A clear effect of gibberellins, ABA and CEPA could not be detected.  相似文献

Overproduction of flowers increases the attractiveness of a plant to pollinators, but results in increased geitonogamy. In general, flower abscission has been considered to be an event subsequent to the overproduction of flowers. We observed pollinator behavior in Tilia, a self-incompatible, insect-pollinated tree. We found that pollinators sequentially visited inflorescences within a tree; however, when they met with flower abortion by abscission, they were apt to move long distances and leave the tree. We propose that plants may utilize flower abscission as a method for regulating the movements of pollinators by disturbing them in order to prevent geitonogamy.  相似文献

Effects of exogenous application of auxin, GA3, abscisic acid, ethrel, methionine and α-alanine to the cut ends of the pedicels of flower buds, flowers and fruits on their abscission behaviour were studied. Fruit pedicels required more time for abscission compared with flower and flower bud pedicels. NAA inhibited abscission of all types of pedicels and the inhibition was maximum in matured fruit pedicels and minimum in flower bud pedicels. Flower pedicels were more sensitive towards the abscission promotive effects of GA3, abscisic acid and ±-alanine and the flower bud pedicels towards ethrel and methionine. The duration of Stage-I of abscission was maximum in cut pedicels of fruit and minimum in those of flower buds. Biochemical analyses revealed greater quantities of endogenous amino acids in the epicalyx of flowers with the exception of methionine and aspartic acid which were found to be present in higher quantities in the epicalyx of flower buds. Levels of IAA-like compounds were maximum in the epioalyx of flower buds and minimum in the epicalyx of flowers. Higher levels of abscisic acid were found in the epicalyx of matured fruits and the epicalyx of flower buds showed a minimum amount of abscisic acid-like compound.  相似文献

Summary Diffusates from flower buds, flower fruits, and scape segments, and extracts of flower stalks of Narcissus pseudonarcissus contain an auxin active in the Avena geo-curvature test. The auxin behaved like indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with neutral and basic solvents on different adsorbents. After TLC, the auxin of the extracts showed chromogenic reactions identical with those of IAA; in gas-liquid chromatography on two different columns, the purified substance, after methylation, appeared at the retention time of IAA methyl ester. The auxin content of the extracts has been estimated to be equivalent to ca. 10 g IAA kg–1 fresh weight. Diffusates, collected at the basal end of excised flowering apices and of scape segments at different developmental stages, showed highest auxin activity when collected from old buds and young flowers, and from the basal, rapidly elongating scape regions. The diffusible auxin obtained from scape segments was very likely produced by the segments themselves. 大豆开花结荚期,不同发育阶段的幼蕾与花荚的脱落率不同,其中以花后5d内的幼荚脱落最严重。与败育花荚相比,正常花荚中的干物质积累量均较高。细胞分裂素(DHZRs,ZRs,iPA)含量也较高,花后3~5d的幼荚中表现更明显。脱落酸(ABA)则是以败育幼蕾及花后3~5d的幼荚中含量较高。不同发育阶段的大豆生殖器官中,正常开放花中的玉米赤霉烯酮(ZEN)含量最高。  相似文献

Cocoa flowers have a limited period of longevity; more than 90% of unpollinated flowers abscised within 32 h after anthesis. Abscisic acid (ABA) levels increased significantly prior to abscission. By 21 h after anthesis, ABA levels had increased almost 10-fold, and by 32 h flowers had 20-fold higher levels of ABA than at anthesis. Fluridone completely inhibited both the increase in ABA, the formation of an abscission zone, and the abscission and senescence of flowers. In contrast, ethylene production increased only slightly 21 h after anthesis and was only 2-fold higher after 32 h. Aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) delayed but did not prevent abscission. In cocoa flowers, ABA is the primary regulator of abscission; ethylene accelerates abscission but only in the presence of ABA. Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) treatment of flowers at anthesis prevented abscission zone formation and flower abscission, but did not induce fruit set. All parts of the NAA-treated flower except the pedicel senesced after 6 days. NAA+AVG treatment only delayed, whereas fluridone treatment completely prevented flower senescence.  相似文献

The Gewurztraminer (GW) and the Pinot noir (PN) cultivars of grapevine differ in their sensitivity to environmental factors that can cause flower abscission, cv. GW being the most sensitive. In order to further define the mechanisms leading to abscission, and owing to the importance of sugars in the achievement of sexual organ ontogenesis, we attempted to correlate the chronology of flower ontogenesis with the variations of carbohydrates in the inflorescence. In the vineyard, under optimal climatic conditions, fruit set of cv. GW and cv. PN was 82% and 65%, respectively. The sugar distribution was different in their inflorescences during the entire duration of flower development. Between stages 15 and 17, flowers of GW and PN reached the crucial meiosis stage. At that time, the inflorescences of cv. GW exhibited higher concentrations of starch and sucrose, whereas those of PN presented higher levels of glucose and fructose. Despite higher starch concentrations in GW inflorescences, starch reserves were present in the ovules and anthers of PN but not in those of GW. These results suggest that the higher content of reserve and transport carbohydrates in the inflorescences of GW favour flower development and fruit set under optimal environmental conditions. Furthermore, since meiosis represents a key step of female development, the different sugar concentrations in the inflorescences of the two cultivars at stages 15 and 17 could be related to the sensitivity to flower abscission under climatic stress. In particular, the presence of starch granules in PN ovules and anthers might explain the higher resistance of this cultivar to flower abscission.  相似文献

连续2a采用野外记录的方式对荒漠植物准噶尔无叶豆的结实、结籽格局进行了比较研究。结果表明:植株内花序生成格局表现为不同大小的花序在总花序中的比重与其结实率存在显著正相关,其中含有中等花数目的花序所占的比重及其结实率均最高,此种分布格局能够最大程度的保证繁殖成功;果序内果实生成格局表现为单花着生位置(从近柄端算起)与其结实量占总结实量的比例成线性负相关,花序基部的结实比例最高,顶部结实比例近为0;荚果内种子生成格局表现为:中间位置的胚珠败育率最低。另外,年际间荚果内仅有(1.08±0.03)粒和(1.07±0.03)粒种子能够完全成熟,此种结籽格局是准噶尔无叶豆保证后代质量的最佳策略。  相似文献
