The clock gene machinery controls cellular metabolism, proliferation, and key functions, such as DNA damage recognition and repair. Dysfunction of the circadian clock is involved in tumorigenesis, and altered expression of some clock genes has been found in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression levels of core clock genes in colorectal cancer (CRC). Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to examine ARNTL1, CLOCK, PER1, PER2, PER3, CRY1, CRY2, Timeless (TIM), TIPIN, and CSNK1Ε expression levels in the tumor tissue and matched apparently healthy mucosa of CRC patients. In the tumor tissue of CRC patients, compared to their matched healthy mucosa, expression levels of ARNTL1 (p?=?.002), PER1 (p?=?.002), PER2 (p?=?.011), PER3 (p?=?.003), and CRY2 (p?=?.012) were lower, whereas the expression level of TIM (p?=?.044) was higher. No significant difference was observed in the expression levels of CLOCK (p?=?.778), CRY1 (p?=?.600), CSNK1Ε (p?=?.903), and TIPIN (p?=?.136). As to the clinical and pathological features, a significant association was found between low CRY1 expression levels in tumor mucosa and age (p?=?.026), and female sex (p?=?.005), whereas high CRY1 expression levels in tumor mucosa were associated with cancer location in the distal colon (p?=?.015). Moreover, high TIM mRNA levels in the tumor mucosa were prevalent whenever proximal lymph nodes were involved (p?= .013) and associated with TNM stages III–IV (p?=?.005) and microsatellite instability (p?=?.015). Significantly poorer survival rates were evidenced for CRC patients with lower expression in the tumor tissue of PER1 (p?=?.010), PER3 (p?= .010), and CSNKIE (p?=?.024). In conclusion, abnormal expression levels of core clock genes in CRC tissue may be related to the process of tumorigenesis and exert an influence on host/tumor interactions. Three tropical range grasses (Cenchrus ciliaris, Dichanthium annulatum, and Panicum antidotale) and two range legumes [Macroptilium atropurpureum (siratro) and Stylosanthes hamata (stylo)] were grown under four irradiances, i.e. 100 (I 100, control), 75 (I 75), 50 (I 50), and 25 (I 25) % of full sunlight. Accumulation of chlorophyll (Chl) b increased but that of Chl a decreased under low irradiances. The greater accumulation of Chl (a+b) in grasses (particularly in D. annulatum and P. antidotale) under shade predicted their shade adaptability. Among legumes Stylosanthes was more adaptive to the shade than Macroptilium due to its higher accumulation of Chl (a+b). Significant difference in the accumulation of carotenoids under I 25 over I 100 was observed in all the species, which shows the increase in quality of the fodder under limited irradiance. There was a significant decrease in soluble protein content in C. ciliaris under I 75, however, no significant difference in protein content was observed under I 50 and I 25, which was also reflected in the SDS pattern with the reduction in content of polypeptides at I 75 and following increase at I 50 and I 25. This was possibly due to reduction of light-induced protein at I 75 and then expression of the stress-induced protein at further reduction of irradiance. Peroxidase activity in C. ciliaris increased with the decrease in irradiance and its isozyme pattern showed differences among all treatments, which indicated the role of different peroxidase isoforms at different irradiances.  相似文献

Wolbachia and Cardinium are widely distributed and are considered important for their ability to disturb reproduction and affect other fitness‐related traits of their hosts. By using multilocus sequence typing (MLST), RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) and 16S ribosomal DNA gene sequencing methods, we extensively surveyed Wolbachia and Cardinium infection status of four predominant rice planthoppers and one kind of leafhopper in different rice fields. The results demonstrated that Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) and Laodelphax striatellus (Fallén) were infected with the same Wolbachia strain (wStri), while Nilaparvata lugens (Stål) and its closely related species Nilaparvata muiri China were infected with two phylogeneticlly distant strains, wLug and wMui, respectively. Three new Wolbachia strains (provisionally named wMfas1, wMfas2 and wMfas3) were detected in the leafhopper Macrosteles fascifrons (Stål). Only S. furcifera was co‐infected with Cardinium, which indicated that the distribution of Cardinium in these rice planthoppers was narrower than that of Wolbachia. Unambiguous intragenic recombination events among these Wolbachia strains and incongruent phylogenetic relationships show that the connections between different Wolbachia strains and hosts were more complex than we expected. These results suggest that horizontal transmission and host associated specialization are two factors affecting Wolbachia and Cardinium infections among planthoppers and their related species.  相似文献

The taxonomy of, and phylogenetic relationships among, African canaries typically assigned to the genus Serinus sensu lato (including the putative genera Alario, Pseudochloroptila, Serinops, Ochrospiza, Dendrospiza and Crithagra) were investigated, based on 823bp of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. Two clades emerged: (1) Palaearctic and Afrotropical taxa, including Serinus serinus, S. canaria, A. alario and the S. canicollis complex (S. c. canicollis, thompsonae and flavivertex), and (2) taxa endemic to the Afrotropics comprising Pseudochloroptila, Serinops, Ochrospiza, Poliospiza, Dendrospiza, Poliospiza and Crithagra spp. However, only clade one has jackknife and bootstrap support values above 50. The two clades were separated by Carduelis taxa, suggesting that Serinus sensu lato is not monophyletic. As it stands, the phylogeny does not support the recognition of Alario and Serinops and possibly Ochrospiza, Dendrospiza and Pseudochloroptila (Cape siskins) as distinct genera. Alario is sister to Serinus canicollis whereas the others are intermingled in a clade comprised primarily by Crithagra spp. The use of Serinus is confined to the Palaearctic canaries and allied species, and Crithagra for the strictly Afrotropical clade. Since the cytochrome b sequence divergence between the allopatric Cape (S. [c.] canicollis) and Yellow-crowned (S. [c.] flavivertex) canaries (2.8%) was similar to differences between other closely-related species and there are marked plumage differences between these taxa, we suggest that they be elevated to full species rank.  相似文献

C3 photosynthesis is often limited by CO2 diffusivity or stomatal (gs) and mesophyll (gm) conductances. To characterize effects of stomatal closure induced by either high CO2 or abscisic acid (ABA) application on gm, we examined gs and gm in the wild type (Col‐0) and ost1 and slac1‐2 mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana grown at 390 or 780 μmol mol?1 CO2. Stomata of these mutants were reported to be insensitive to both high CO2 and ABA. When the ambient CO2 increased instantaneously, gm decreased in all these plants, whereas gs in ost1 and slac1‐2 was unchanged. Therefore, the decrease in gm in response to high CO2 occurred irrespective of the responses of gs. gm was mainly determined by the instantaneous CO2 concentration during the measurement and not markedly by the CO2 concentration during the growth. Exogenous application of ABA to Col‐0 caused the decrease in the intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci). With the decrease in Ci, gm did not increase but decreased, indicating that the response of gm to CO2 and that to ABA are differently regulated and that ABA content in the leaves plays an important role in the regulation of gm.  相似文献

The prevalence of selected tetracycline and streptomycin resistance genes and class 1 integrons in Enterobacteriaceae (n = 80) isolated from dairy farm soil and nondairy soils was evaluated. Among 56 bacteria isolated from dairy farm soils, 36 (64.3%) were resistant to tetracycline, and 17 (30.4%) were resistant to streptomycin. Lower frequencies of tetracycline (9 of 24 or 37.5%) and streptomycin (1 of 24 or 4.2%) resistance were observed in bacteria isolated from nondairy soils. Bacteria (n = 56) isolated from dairy farm soil had a higher frequency of tetracycline resistance genes including tetM (28.6%), tetA (21.4%), tetW (8.9%), tetB (5.4%), tetS (5.4%), tetG (3.6%), and tetO (1.8%). Among 24 bacteria isolated from nondairy soils, four isolates carried tetM, tetO, tetS, and tetW in different combinations; whereas tetA, tetB, and tetG were not detected. Similarly, a higher prevalence of streptomycin resistance genes including strA (12.5%), strB (12.5%), ant(3″) (12.5), aph(6)-1c (12.5%), aph(3″) (10.8%), and addA (5.4%) was detected in bacteria isolated from dairy farm soils than in nondairy soils. None of the nondairy soil isolates carried aadA gene. Other tetracycline (tetC, tetD, tetE, tetK, tetL, tetQ, and tetT) and streptomycin (aph(6)-1c and ant(6)) resistance genes were not detected in both dairy and nondairy soil isolates. A higher distribution of multiple resistance genes was observed in bacteria isolated from dairy farm soil than in nondairy soil. Among 36 tetracycline- and 17 streptomycin-resistant isolates from dairy farm soils, 11 (30.6%) and 9 (52.9%) isolates carried multiple resistance genes encoding resistance to tetracycline and streptomycin, respectively, which was higher than in bacteria isolated from nondairy soils. One strain each of Citrobacter freundii and C. youngae isolated from dairy farm soils carried class 1 integrons with different inserted gene cassettes. Results of this small study suggest that the presence of multiple resistance genes and class 1 integrons in Enterobacteriaceae in dairy farm soil may act as a reservoir of antimicrobial resistance genes and could play a role in the dissemination of these antimicrobial resistance genes to other commensal and indigenous microbial communities in soil. However, additional longer-term studies conducted in more locations are needed to validate this hypothesis.  相似文献

为了合理利用和保护天敌进行卵形短须螨、双斑长跗萤叶甲和假眼小绿叶蝉的综合防治,用灰色系统分析方法和生态位分析法对合肥地区白毫早茶园3种主要害虫与其捕食性天敌在数量、时间、空间等方面关系进行分析,利用害虫与天敌关系密切指数之和综合评判9种天敌与3种害虫关系密切的前四位天敌。2015年卵形短须螨的前四位天敌是鳞纹肖蛸(5.3079)、三突花蟹蛛(5.1716)、锥腹肖蛸(4.8367)和草间小黑蛛(4.7869);2016年前四位天敌依次是三突花蟹蛛(5.3975)、鳞纹肖蛸(4.9414)、茶色新圆蛛(4.8757)、锥腹肖蛸(4.6815)。对两年结果综合分析,卵形短须螨的前四位天敌依次是三突花蟹蛛(10.5691)、鳞纹肖蛸(10.2493)、茶色新圆蛛(9.6353)和锥腹肖蛸(9.5182)。2015年双斑长跗萤叶甲的前四位天敌依次是锥腹肖蛸(5.6926)、异色瓢虫(5.6976)、八斑球腹蛛(5.5101)和斜纹猫蛛(5.4552);2016年依次是茶色新圆蛛(5.2909)、锥腹肖蛸(5.2710)、鳞纹肖蛸(5.1063)和斜纹猫蛛(5.0703)。对两年结果综合评判,双斑长跗萤叶甲的前四位天敌是锥腹肖蛸(10.9636)、茶色新圆蛛(10.6578)、异色瓢虫(10.7580)和鳞纹肖蛸(10.5437)。2015年假眼小绿叶蝉的前四位天敌依次是锥腹肖蛸(5.3614)、粽管巢蛛(5.2259)、斜纹猫蛛(5.1300)和茶色新圆蛛(4.7472);2016年是锥腹肖蛸(5.2666)、粽管巢蛛(5.2561)、草间小黑蛛(4.9376)和斜纹猫蛛(4.8335)。对两年结果综合评判,假眼小绿叶蝉的前四位天敌依次是锥腹肖蛸(10.6280)、粽管巢蛛(10.4820)、斜纹猫蛛(9.9635)和茶色新圆蛛(8.6137)。该研究结果为白毫早茶园3种害虫防治时合理保护和利用自然界的天敌的种类提供了科学依据。  相似文献

Aim: To examine surface water from a pond in the northeastern part of the Czech Republic and young black‐headed gulls (Larus ridibundus) nesting on the same pond for the presence of antibiotic‐resistant Salmonella and Escherichia coli. Methods and Results: A total of 16% (n = 87) of water and 24% (n = 216) of gull samples yielded Salmonella. Salmonella Enteritidis PT8 and PT4 were the most prevalent. Antibiotic resistance was found in 12% (n = 14) of water and 28% (n = 51) of gull salmonellae. Escherichia coli were found in 83 (95%) and 213 (99%) of pond water and gull samples, respectively. Totals of 18% (n = 83) of water and 28% (n = 213) of gull E. coli isolates were resistant to antimicrobial agents tested. Class 1 integrons were found in 21% (n = 14) of water and 15% (n = 60) of gull antibiotic‐resistant E. coli isolates. Class 2 integrons and extended‐spectrum beta‐lactamase‐producing E. coli isolates (with blaCTX‐M‐1, blaCTX‐M‐15‐like, blaSHV‐2 and blaSHV‐12) were found in 13% (eight positive, n = 60 gull‐resistant E. coli isolates) and 3% (seven positive, n = 216 gull E. coli isolates) of gull isolates, respectively. Antibiotic‐resistant E. coli isolates with identical pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns were found in either gulls or water, but not both. Salmonellae of the same serotype and PFGE profile were found in both gulls and water. Conclusion: A high prevalence of antibiotic‐resistant salmonellae and E. coli were found in both pond water and in sympatric black‐headed gulls. Significance and Impact of the Study: Intensive contamination of pond surface water by antibiotic‐resistant E. coli and salmonellae was documented. Black‐headed gulls were identified as important reservoirs of antibiotic‐resistant salmonellae and E. coli, including extended‐spectrum beta‐lactamase‐producing isolates.  相似文献

The activating or inhibiting actions of a variety of anion species and of oligomycin, aurovertin and Dio-9 on the ATPase of a sonic particle preparation of rat liver mitochondria have been characterized by measurements of the relevantV max,K i andK m values.The normalV max was increased by a factor near 7 by the anions: dichromate, chromate, pyrophosphate, orthophosphate, orthoarsenate and sulphate. The fully activating concentration varied from about 2 mM for dichromate to 150 mM for sulphate. The increase inV max was accompanied by a time-dependent decrease in (K i)ADP, but there was no change in (K m)ATP. The increase inV max by the activating anions was abolished by aurovertin; but in presence of oligomycin, the lowV max was increased by the activating anions by the same factor as theV max in absence of oligomycin.Certain anions, notably azide, decreasedV max, but did not affect (K i)ADP or (K m)ATP. The decrease inV max by azide and oligomycin were approximately additive. Even at high concentration, Dio-9 was without detectable effect on the ATPase, but it had a gramicidinlike effect on the intact mitochondria.The specificity of the ATPase for ATP relative to GTP was found to be attributable to the high value of (V max)ATP compared with (V max)GTP. The values of (K m)ATP and (K m)GTP were virtually the same.Some rationalization of these and other supporting observations is attempted in terms of present knowledge of the constitution of the ATPase complex.  相似文献

We quantified the effect of stand age and tree species composition on canopy transpiration (EC) by analysing transpiration per unit leaf area (EL) and canopy stomatal conductance (GS) for boreal trees comprising a five stand wildfire chronosequence. A total of 196 sap flux sensors were used on 90 trees consisting of Betula papyrifera Marsh (paper birch; present in the youngest stand), Populus tremuloides Michx (quaking aspen), Pinus banksiana Lamb. (jack pine), and Picea mariana (Mill.) (black spruce). While fine roots were positively correlated with stand EC; leaf area index, basal area, and sapwood area were not. Stands less than 70 years old were dominated by Populus tremuloides and Pinus banksiana and stands greater than 70 years old were composed almost entirely of Picea mariana. As Populus tremuloides and Pinus banksiana increased in size and age, they displayed an increasing sapwood to leaf area ratio (AS : AL), a constant minimum leaf water potential (ΨL), and a constant proportionality between GS at low vapour pressure deficit (Dj GSref) and the sensitivity of GS to D (–δ). In contrast, AS : AL, minimum ΨL, and the proportionally between –δ and GSref decreased with height and age in Picea mariana. A GS model that included the effects of D, AS : AL, tree height, and for Picea mariana an increasing soil to leaf water potential gradient with stand age, was able to capture the effects of contrasting hydraulic properties of Picea mariana, Populus tremuloides and Pinus banksiana during stand development after wildfire.  相似文献

Objective: African Americans (AAs) have less visceral and more subcutaneous fat than whites, thus the relationship of adiponectin and leptin to body fat and insulin sensitivity in AA may be different from that in whites. Methods and Procedures: Sixty‐nine non‐diabetic AA (37 men and 32 women), aged 33 ± 1 year participated. The percent fat was determined by dual‐energy X‐ray absorptiometry, abdominal visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) volume by computerized tomography (CT), and insulin sensitivity by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA). Results: VAT was greater in men (1,619 ± 177 cm3 vs. 1,022 ± 149 cm3; P = 0.01); women had a higher percentage of body fat (34.1 ± 1.4 vs. 24.0 ± 1.2; P < 0.0001), adiponectin (15.8 ± 1.2 μg/ml vs. 10.4 ± 0.8 μg/ml; P = 0.0004) and leptin (23.2 ± 15.8 ng/ml vs. 9.2 ± 7.2 ng/ml; P < 0.0001). SAT and HOMA did not differ because of the sex. Adiponectin negatively correlated with VAT (r = ?0.41, P < 0.05) in men, and with VAT (r = ?0.55, P < 0.01), and SAT (r = ?0.35, P < 0.05) in women. Adiponectin negatively correlated with HOMA in men (r = ?0.38, P < 0.05) and women (r = ?0.44, P < 0.05). In multiple regression, sex (P = 0.02), HOMA (P = 0.03) and VAT (P = 0.003) were significant predictors of adiponectin (adj R 2 = 0.38, P < 0.0001). Leptin positively correlated with VAT, SAT, percent fat and HOMA in men (r = 0.79, r = 0.86, r = 0.89, and r = 0.53; P < 0.001) and women (r = 0.62, r = 0.75, r = 0.83, and r = 0.55; P < 0.01). In multiple regression VAT (P = 0.04), percent body fat (P < 0.0001) and sex (P = 0.01), but not HOMA were significant predictors of serum leptin (adj R 2= 0.82, P < 0.0001). Discussion: The relationship of adiponectin and leptin to body fat content and distribution in AA is dependent on sex. Although VAT and insulin sensitivity are significant determinants of adiponectin, VAT and percent body fat determine leptin.  相似文献

Abstract

Context: Stroke and/or white matter lesions (WMLs) are significant in Fabry disease. Polymorphisms of angiotensinogen (AGT), AGT Promoter and angiotensinogen II receptor type 1 (AGTR1) are correlated with WMLs.

Objectives: We compared AGT. AGT Promoter and AGTR1 genotypes to stroke incidence, Fabry-specific [Mainz Severity Score Index (MSSI)] severity score, and neurologic sub-score (n-MSSI).

Methods: Sixty-three Fabry patients and 49 matched controls plus historic controls were genotyped. Institutional Review Board approval was received.

Results. C and/or CC alleles of AGT Promoter and AGTR1 were significantly correlated with stroke and n-MSSI.

Discussion/conclusion: Findings are suggestive of role of AGT Promoter and AGTR1 genotypes in Fabry phenotypes.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers and analyses of meiotic metaphase I are reported for the following taxa: Agropyron cristatum subsp. incanum (2n= 42), A. cristatum subsp. pecttnatum (2n=28 – 33), Elymus elongatus subsp. ponticus (2n= 69, 70), E. hispidus var. hispidus (2n= 41 43), var. podperae (2n= 42) and var. villosus (2n= 41, 42), E. libanoticus (2n= 14), E. pertenuis (2n= 28, 28+1B), E. repens (2n= 42), E. transhyrcanus (2n= 40–42), E. hispidus var. villosus x E. cf. repens (2n= 42). Chromosome numbers only are reported for the following taxa: E. gentri (2n= 41, 42), E. nodosus subsp. dorudicus (2n= 28), and E. elongatiformis (2n= 56, 57). The haploid genomic constitution SP is reported for Elymus pertenuis. Variable chromosome numbers (2n= 28–32) were observed in the meiotic metaphase I within single anthers of Agropyron cristatum subsp. pectinatum, and the supernumerary chromosomes in this taxon are assumed to have originated from crosses with hexaploids. Partial elimination of these supernumerary chromosomes probably occurs during archesporial mitotic divisions or at an early stage in the meiotic cycle. A hybrid, morphologically intermediate between E. hispidus and E. repens, was obtained from a seed of E. hispidus collected in the field. The meiotic metaphase I configuration in this E. hispidus hybrid suggests that the pollen parent may itself be a hybrid or hybrid derivative of E. repens x E. hispidus.  相似文献

(L -Cys)n + N-base systems and (L -Cys)n + (L -Lys)n systems were studied by ir spectroscopy. It is shown that in the water-free systems, SH ?N ? S? ?H+N hydrogen bonds are formed. With the (L -Cys)n + N-base systems, both proton-limiting structures in the SH ?N ? S? ?H+N bonds have equal weight when the pKa of the protonated N-base is 2 pKa units larger than that of (L -Cys)n. The same is true with the water-free (L -Cys)n + (L -Lys)n system. Thus, with regard to the type of proton potentials present, these hydrogen bonds are proton-transfer hydrogen bonds showing very large proton polarizabilities. This is confirmed by the occurrence of continua in the ir spectra. Small amounts of water open these hydrogen bonds and increase the transfer of the proton to (L -Lys)n. In the (L -Lys)n + N-base systems, with increasing proton transfer the backbone of (L -Cys)n changes from antiparallel β-structure to coil. In (L -Cys)n + (L -Lys)n, the conformation is determined by the (L -Lys)n conformation and changes depending on the chain length of (L -Lys)n. Finally, the reactivity increase in the active center of fatty acid synthetase, which should be caused by the shift of a proton, is discussed on the basis of the great proton polarizability of the cysteine–lysine hydrogen bonds.  相似文献

Neuroprotective potential of V. teucrium and V. jacquinii methanol extracts was analyzed. Chemical analysis of investigated extracts showed the presence of phenolic acid derivatives, flavonoids and one secoiridoid. The detected flavonoids derived from flavones (luteolin and isoscutellarein in V. jacquinii ; apigenin, isoscutellarein and luteolin in V. teucrium ) and flavonol (quercetin in V. jacquinii ). Acteoside was the dominant compound in V. jacquinii , while plantamajoside and isoscutellarein 7‐O ‐(6?‐O ‐acetyl)‐β ‐allosyl (1?→2?)‐β ‐glucoside were the major phenolics in V. teucrium . Additionally, the antineurodegenerative activity was tested at concentrations of 25, 50, and 100 μg/ml using acetylcholinesterase (AC hE) and tyrosinase (TYR ) assays. The inhibition of both enzymes was achieved with the investigated extracts, ranging from 22.78 to 35.40% for AC hE and from 9.57 to 16.38% for TYR . There was no statistical difference between the activities of the analyzed extracts. Our data indicate that V. teucrium and V. jacquinii may have beneficial effects against Alzheimer 's and Parkinson 's disease.  相似文献

We used a common garden experiment to evaluate the isolated and combined effects of a biocontrol agent, the insect (Agapeta zoegana, Lepidoptera), and a native North American fungal pathogen (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) on competition between the noxious weed Centaurea maculosa and the native Festuca idahoensis. In 0.5-m2 plots with 24 plants per plot, competition between Centaurea and Festuca was highly asymmetrical, with Centaurea strongly reducing the final biomass and reproduction of Festuca, and Festuca having no effect, or possibly a positive effect, on Centaurea. The direct effects of the biological control agents differed entirely. All Centaurea individuals died in plots receiving Sclerotinia, but Agapeta did not significantly reduce the growth of Centaurea, and apparently stimulated a compensatory reproductive response in the weed. Individual Centaurea plants that had been damaged by Agapeta produced more flowerheads, and the number of Centaurea plants with Agapeta root damage in a plot was positively correlated with total Centaurea biomass. These differences in the direct effects of the consumers were reflected in their indirect effects. In plots where Sclerotinia killed Centaurea (strong direct effects) Festuca growth and reproduction was equal to that in Festuca plots without Centaurea and the reproductive output of Festuca increased substantially (strong indirect effects). However, in the absence of Sclerotinia, the application of Agapeta did not significantly decrease Centaurea biomass (weak direct effects) and actually stimulated small, but significant decreases in Festuca reproduction and trends towards lower Festuca biomass (weak and opposite indirect effects –Agapeta does not eat Festuca). If the direct effects of biocontrol agents on Centaurea are weak, as suggested by our results, natives are unlikely to be released from the competitive effects of Centaurea, and natives may suffer from Centaurea's compensatory response to herbivory. Wild killer yeasts have been identified as inhibitory to strains used as starters in the production of alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine; therefore, killer or killer-resistant strains have been sought for use in alcoholic fermentations. In the current paper a total of 16 strains belonging to six species were isolated. From two samples of Agave sap (aguamiel) the following yeast strains were isolated: Candida lusitaneae (1), Kluyveromyces marxianus var. bulgaricus (2), and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (capensis) (1). Additionally, in seven samples of pulque (the fermented product), the species C. valida (six strains), S. cerevisiae (chevalieri) (4), S. cerevisiae (capensis) (1), and K. marxianus var. lactis (1) were found. The killer strains were C. valida and K. marxianus var. lactis from pulque and K. marxianus var. bulgaricus from aguamiel. One strain of S. cerevisiae (chevalieri) isolated from pulque which did not show killer activity was, on the other hand, resistant to other killer strains and it had a remarkable ethanol tolerance, suggesting that this strain could be used for alcohol production.  相似文献

Mothers vary in duration of breastfeeding. These individual differences are related to a variety of demographic and individual maternal factors including maternal hormones, mood and early experiences. However, little is known about the role of genetic factors. We studied single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the OXT peptide gene (rs2740210; rs4813627) and the OXT receptor gene (OXTR rs237885) in two samples of mothers from the Maternal adversity, Vulnerability and Neurodevelopment study (MAVAN), a multicenter (Hamilton and Montreal, Canada) study following mothers and their children from pregnancy until 7 years of age. Data from the Hamilton site was the primary sample (n = 201) and data from Montreal was the replication sample (n = 151). Breastfeeding duration, maternal mood (measured by the CES‐D scale) and early life adversity (measured by the CTQ scale) were established during 12 months postpartum. In our primary sample, polymorphisms in OXT rs2740210, but not the other SNPs, interacted with early life adversity to predict variation in breastfeeding duration (overall F8,125 = 2.361, P = 0.021; interaction effect b = ?8.12, t = ?2.3, P = 0.023) and depression (overall F8,118 = 5.751, P ≤ 0.001; interaction effect b = 6.06, t = 3.13, P = 0.002). A moderated mediation model showed that higher levels of depression mediated the inverse relation of high levels of early life adversity to breastfeeding duration, but only in women possessing the CC genotype [effect a′ = ?3.3401, 95% confidence interval (CI) = ?7.9466 to ?0.0015] of the OXT SNP and not in women with the AA/AC genotype (a′ = ?1.2942, ns). The latter findings (moderated mediation model) were replicated in our Montreal sample (a′ = ?0.277, 95% CI = ?0.7987 to ?0.0348 for CC; a′ = ?0.1820, ns for AA/AC) .  相似文献
