The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in motor unit firing behavior during prolonged contractions in young and older adults. Motor unit activity was recorded from the tibialis anterior of 16 subjects (8 young and 8 older), while they performed isometric dorsiflexion at 50% MVC until task failure. Mean motor unit firing rate, the standard deviation (SD), and coefficient of variation (CV) of the interspike intervals, and number of doublet discharges were calculated for a total of 52 motor units, tracked for an average of 92.9 ± 68.6 s. There was no age-related difference in the time to task failure. A modest decline in firing rate was observed in 71% of the motor units, with no significant age-related difference. The SD and CV of the interspike interval had a positive slope in 65% and 69% of the motor units, respectively, with no significant age-related differences. The number of doublet discharges remained stable throughout the contraction. Both groups exhibited motor unit dropout (discharge cessation) during the contraction. Thus, a fatiguing task producing modest changes in firing rate in young and older adults is accompanied by an appreciable increase in firing rate variability. The incidence of doublet discharges is not increased during fatiguing contractions.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to explore the role of visual and proprioceptive feedback in upper limb posture control in fibromyalgia (FM) and to assess the coherence between acceleration measurements of upper limb micro movements and surface electromyography (sEMG) of shoulder muscle activity (upper trapezius and deltoid). Twenty-five female FM patients and 25 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) performed three precision motor tasks: (1) maintain a steady shoulder abduction angle of 45° while receiving visual feedback about upper arm position and supporting external loads (0.5, 1, or 2 kg), (2) maintain the same shoulder abduction angle without visual feedback (eyes closed) and no external loading, and (3) a joint position sense test (i.e., assessment of proprioceptive accuracy). Patients had more extensive increase in movement variance than HCs when visual feedback was removed (P < 0.03). Proprioceptive accuracy was related to movement variance in HCs (R  0.59, P  0.002), but not in patients (R  0.25, P  0.24). There was no difference between patients and HCs in coherence between sEMG and acceleration data. These results may indicate that FM patients are more dependent on visual feedback and less reliant on proprioceptive information for upper limb posture control compared to HCs.  相似文献

Interhemispheric connections have been demonstrated between the motor cortex controlling muscle pairs. However, these investigations have tended to concentrate upon hand muscles. We have extended these investigations to proximal muscles that control the scapula upon the trunk and help to move and stabilise the shoulder. Using a paired pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation protocol, the interhemispheric interactions between different shoulder girdle muscle pairs, serratus anterior, upper trapezius and lower trapezius were investigated. Test motor evoked potentials were conditioned using conditioning pulse intensities of 80% and 120% of active motor threshold at three different condition-test intervals, during three different tasks. Interhemispheric inhibition was observed in upper trapezius using a conditioning intensity of 120% and condition-test interval of 8 ms (17 ± 18%, p < 0.007). A trend towards inhibition was observed in lower trapezius and serratus anterior using a conditioning intensity of 120% and a condition-test interval of 8 ms (13 ± 22%; p < 0.07 and 10 ± 19% respectively; p < 0.07). No interhemispheric facilitation was evoked. The study demonstrates that a low level of interhemispheric inhibition rather than interhemispheric facilitation could be evoked between these muscle pairs.  相似文献

The contractile properties of motor units (MUs) were electrophysiologically investigated in the medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle in 17 Wistar three-month-old female rats: 14, 30, 90 and 180 days after the total transection of the thoracic spinal cord and compared to those in intact (control) rats. A sag phenomenon, regularly observed in unfused tetani of fast units in intact animals at 40 Hz stimulation, almost completely disappeared in spinal rats. Therefore, the MUs of intact and spinal rats were classified as fast or slow types basing on 20 Hz tetanus index, the value of which was lower or equal 2.0 for fast and higher than 2.0 for slow MUs. The MUs composition of MG muscle changed with time after the spinal cord transection: an increasing proportion of fast fatigable (FF) units starting one month after injury and a disappearance of slow (S) units within the three months were observed. In all MUs investigated the twitch contraction and half-relaxation time were significantly prolonged after injury (p < 0.01, Mann–Whitney U-test). Moreover, a decrease of the fatigue index for fast resistant (FR) and slow MUs was observed in subsequent groups of spinal rats. No significant changes were found between twitch forces in all MU types of spinal animals (p > 0.05). However, due to a decrease of the maximal tetanic force, a significant rise of the twitch-to-tetanus ratio of all MUs in spinal rats was detected (p < 0.01). The considerable reduction of ability to potentiate the force was noticed for fast, especially FF type MUs. In conclusion, the spinal cord transection leads to changes in the proportion of the three MU types in rat MG muscle. The majority of changes in MUs’ contractile properties were developed progressively with time after the spinal cord injury. However, the most intensive alterations of twitch-time parameters were observed in rats one month after the transection.  相似文献

Introduction: This prospectively designed study analyzed the correlation of a new, non-invasive neurophysiological method (Motor Unit Number Index – MUNIX) with two established Motor Unit Number Estimation (MUNE) methods. Methods: MUNIX and incremental stimulation MUNE (IS-MUNE) were done in the abductor digiti minimi muscle (ADM), while MUNIX and spike-triggered averaging MUNE (STA-MUNE) were tested in the trapezius muscle. Twenty healthy subjects and 17 patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) were examined. Results: MUNIX and MUNE values correlated significantly (ADM: n = 108; Spearman-Rho; r = 0.88; p < 0.01; trapezius muscle: n = 49; Spearman-Rho; r = 0.46; p < 0.01). Discussion: MUNIX indeed reflects the number of motor units in a muscle, and may sensibly be recorded from the trapezius muscle. With MUNIX being both much more patient friendly and much more rapid to assess than MUNE, the results support the use of MUNIX when motor unit number assessment is desired.  相似文献

To examine the effects of maternal supranutritional selenium (Se) and nutrient restriction during mid and late gestation on placental characteristics and fetal liver glycogen, ewes received either adequate Se (ASe) or high Se (HSe) prior to breeding. On d 64 of gestation, ASe and HSe ewes remained at 100% of requirements (controls; CON) or were restricted (RES; 60% of requirements). On d 135 of gestation, fetal weight (P  0.08) was greatest in both HSe and CON ewes. Placentome number, mass, and caruncular and cotyledonary weight were not different (P  0.17) among treatments. Fetal mass:placental mass ratio was less (P = 0.06) in RES compared to CON ewes. Compared to ASe, HSe exhibited increased (P  0.08) cellular proliferation and DNA concentration and decreased (P = 0.07) cellular size in cotyledonary tissue. Nutritional restriction decreased (P  0.08) cotyledonary protein concentration and cellular size. VEGF receptor 1 (Flt) mRNA in cotyledonary tissue was greater in HSe compared with ASe ewes (P = 0.06) and in RES compared with CON ewes (P = 0.08). There was no effect of diet on caruncular growth variables (P  0.13) or on placental vascularity (P  0.11). Progesterone was greater (P  0.08) in ASe–RES ewes compared to all groups at d 90 and ASe–CON and HSe–CON at d 104. Although fetal glucose and cortisol concentrations were not affected by diet, fetal liver glycogen was greater (P = 0.04) in ASe–RES compared to ASe–CON and HSe–RES ewes with HSe–CON being intermediate. Both Se and nutritional plane may impact placental function and fetal growth, as fetal weight and liver glycogen are altered despite similar placental vascularity measurements.  相似文献

Stimulation of motor units (MUs) with repeated pulses evokes tetanic contractions, which consist of overlapping mechanical responses. The summation of these responses into tetanus is a nonlinear process due to the dynamic changes in the amplitudes and time parameters of the successive components. In order to study these changes, two MUs (one fast and one slow) of rat medial gastrocnemius muscle were stimulated with a progressively increasing number of pulses, from one (i = 1) to sixteen (i = 16) at a frequency of 15 Hz for the slow MU and 60 Hz for the fast MU. The individual responses were calculated by subtracting the (i)th from the (i + 1)th tetanus recording. The contractions obtained following subtraction were modeled using a novel 6-parameter analytical function. The main conclusions of this study are (1) the newly presented analytical function is able to precisely describe the variable shape of all subtracted experimental contractions; (2) the shapes of successive contractions are variable and the subtracted contractions differ from the individual twitches; (3) as the pulse number increases, the parameters of the subtracted contractions change in a different manner for the slow and fast MUs: for the slow MU, the maximal forces and the time parameters increase considerably up to the 4th response, after which they remain nearly constant or show only a slight increase; for the fast MU, the maximal forces and durations also increase, whereas the remaining time parameters initially increase and then maintain a constant level or decrease, which explains the sag phenomenon visible in the unfused tetanus of fast MUs.  相似文献

Purpose: To indirectly evaluate the effect of androgens on neuromuscular system in humans we analyzed if an induced short-term hypogonadal state (serum total testosterone-TT < 2.3 ng/ml) may affect central drive to skeletal muscle and/or muscle neuro-mechanical performance. Methods: We compared voluntary and electrically evoked muscle sEMG signals from biceps brachii in nine hypogonadal male volunteers (Hypo) and in ten healthy controls (Cont). Serum TT and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) were assayed. Results: With respect to Hypo, Cont exhibited significantly higher median frequency content (MDF) at any angular velocity; normalized MDF [95.9% (SD = 23.3) vs 73.8% (SD = 9.3)]; muscle fiber conduction velocity (CV) from lowest to highest angular velocities; initial MDF at fatigue test [91.78 Hz (SD = 22.03) vs 70.94 Hz (SD = 11.06)] as well as was the normalized slope [−0.64 (SD = 0.14 vs −0.5 (SD = 0.11)]. In the non-fatigued state, Hypo showed a slower single twitches time to peak (TTP). In Cont, half relaxation time (HRT) decreased after fatigue while increased in Hypo (p < 0.05 between groups). A significant correlation between both TT and dihydrotestosterone with MDF and CV was found during voluntary contractions only. Conclusions: A brief exposure to very low serum TT concentration in males seem to determine a reduced excitability of the NM system which, in turn, would favor a predominant recruitment of slow twitch MUs.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown an association of visual demands during near work and increased activity of the trapezius muscle. Those studies were conducted under stationary postural conditions with fixed gaze and artificial visual load. The present study investigated the relationship between ciliary muscle contraction force and trapezius muscle activity across individuals during performance of a natural dynamic motor task under free gaze conditions. Participants (N = 11) tracked a moving visual target with a digital pen on a computer screen. Tracking performance, eye refraction and trapezius muscle activity were continuously measured. Ciliary muscle contraction force was computed from eye accommodative response. There was a significant Pearson correlation between ciliary muscle contraction force and trapezius muscle activity on the tracking side (0.78, p < 0.01) and passive side (0.64, p < 0.05). The study supports the hypothesis that high visual demands, leading to an increased ciliary muscle contraction during continuous eye–hand coordination, may increase trapezius muscle tension and thus contribute to the development of musculoskeletal complaints in the neck–shoulder area. Further experimental studies are required to clarify whether the relationship is valid within each individual or may represent a general personal trait, when individuals with higher eye accommodative response tend to have higher trapezius muscle activity.  相似文献

The current study aimed to investigate differences in activity of neck flexor and extensor muscles in women with migraine considering the chronicity of their condition. Thirty-one subjects with episodic migraine, 21 with chronic migraine and 31 healthy controls participated. Surface electromyography signals were recorded bilaterally from the sternocleidomastoid, anterior scalene, splenius capitis and upper trapezius muscles as subjects performed 5 stages of cranio-cervical flexion (CCF), representing a progressive increase in range of CCF motion. Comparison of normalized root-mean-square among groups was conducted with 3 × 5 ANCOVA with task level as the within-subject variable, group as the between-subject variable, and the presence of neck pain and disability as co-variates. The group with chronic migraine exhibited increased activity of their extensor muscles compared to the control and episodic migraine groups (splenius capitis: F = 3.149, P = 0.045; upper trapezius: F = 3.369, P = 0.041). No significant between-group differences were found for the superficial neck flexors (sternocleidomastoid: F = 1.161, P = 0.320; anterior scalene: F = 0.135, P = 0.874). In conclusion, women with chronic migraine exhibit increased activity of their superficial neck extensor muscles when acting as antagonists during low-load isometric CCF contractions in comparison to non-headache subjects.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether age-related changes in motor unit (MU) contractile properties are reflected in parameters of motor unit action potentials (MUAPs). MUs of the medial gastrocnemius muscle were functionally isolated in anaesthetized Wistar rats. A control group of young animals (5–10 mo) was compared to two groups of old rats (24–25 mo and 28–30 mo). The basic contractile properties of MUs as well as the amplitude, total duration, peak-to-peak time, and number of turns within MUAPs were measured. Effects of aging were mainly observed for fast fatigable MUs (a prolongation of MUAPs and increased number of turns). The MUAP amplitude did not change significantly with aging in either MU type, but it correlated to the twitch or tetanic forces, which tended to increase with age, especially for slow MUs. We concluded that the prolongation of MUAPs and the greater incidence of signal turns was probably a result of a decrease in muscle fiber conduction velocity and/or an increase in their dispersion, and enlargement of MU territories – presumably caused by axonal sprouting of surviving motoneurons. The latter might also be responsible for the observed age-related tendency for a increase in MUAP amplitudes in slow MUs.  相似文献

Motor unit behavior differs between contraction types at submaximal contraction levels, however is challenging to study during maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs). With multi-channel surface electromyography (sEMG), mean physiological characteristics of the active motor units can be extracted. Two 8-electrode sEMG arrays were attached on biceps brachii muscle (one on each head) to examine behavior of sEMG variables during isometric, eccentric and concentric MVCs of elbow flexors in 36 volunteers.On average, isometric (364 ± 88 N) and eccentric (353 ± 74 N) MVCs were higher than concentric (290 ± 73 N) MVC (p < 0.001). Mean muscle fiber conduction velocity (CV) was highest during eccentric MVC (4.42 ± 0.49 m/s) than concentric (4.25 ± 0.49 m/s, p < 0.01) and isometric (4.14 ± 0.45 m/s, p < 0.001) MVCs. Furthermore, eccentric MVC showed lower sEMG amplitude at the largest elbow joint angles (120–170°) and higher CV at the smallest (70–150°) elbow joint angles (p < 0.05–0.001) than concentric MVC.The differences in CV and sEMG amplitude between the MVCs suggest that the control strategy of motor units differs between the contraction types during MVCs, and is dependent on the muscle length between the dynamic MVCs.  相似文献

The contractile properties of motor units (MUs) were investigated in the medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle in rats after the spinal cord hemisection at a low thoracic level. Hemisected animals were divided into 4 groups: 14, 30, 90 and 180 days after injury. Intact rats formed a control group. The mass of the MG muscle did not change significantly after spinal cord hemisection, hind limb locomotor pattern was almost unchanged starting from two weeks after injury, but contractile properties of MUs were however altered. Contraction time (CT) and half-relaxation time (HRT) of MUs were prolonged in all investigated groups of hemisected rats. The twitch-to-tetanus ratio (Tw/Tet) of fast MUs after the spinal cord hemisection increased. For slow MUs Tw/Tet values did not change in the early stage after the injury, but significantly decreased in rats 90 and 180 days after hemisection. As a result of hemisection the fatigue resistance especially of slow and fast resistant MU types was reduced, as well as fatigue index (Fat I) calculated for the whole examined population of MUs decreased progressively with the time. After spinal cord hemisection a reduced number of fast MUs presented the sag at frequencies 30 and 40 Hz, however more of them revealed sag in 20 Hz tetanus in comparison to control group. Due to considerable changes in twitch contraction time and disappearance of sag effect in unfused tetani of some MUs in hemisected animals, the classification of MUs in all groups of rats was based on the 20 Hz tetanus index (20 Hz Tet I) but not on the standard criteria usually applied for MUs classification. MU type differentiations demonstrated some clear changes in MG muscle composition in hemisected animals consisting of an increase in the proportion of slow MUs (likely due to an increased participation of the studied muscle in tonic antigravity activity) together with an increase in the percentage of fast fatigable MUs.  相似文献

Surface electromyography parameters such as root-mean-square value (RMS) and median power frequency (FMED) are commonly used to assess the input of the central nervous system (CNS) to a muscle. However, RMS and FMED are influenced not only by CNS input, but also by peripheral muscle properties. The number of motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) per second, or MUAP Rate (MR), being the sum of the firing rates of the active motor units, would reflect CNS input solely. This study explored MR behaviour in relation to force and during a fatiguing contraction in comparison to RMS and FMED.In the first experiment (n = 10) a step contraction of shoulder elevation force (20–100 N) was performed while multi-channel array EMG was recorded from the upper trapezius muscle. The sensitivity of MR for changes in force (1.8%/N) was almost twice as high as that of RMS (0.97%/N), indicating that MR may be more suitable for monitoring muscle force. The second experiment (n = 6) consisted of a 15-min isometric contraction of the biceps brachii. MR increased considerably less than RMS (0.9% vs. 4.1%), suggesting that MR selectively reflects central motor control whereas RMS also reflects peripheral changes. These results support that, at relatively low force levels, MR is a suitable parameter for non-invasive assessment of the input of the CNS to the muscle.  相似文献

Work related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are common among dentists and possibly caused by prolonged static load. The aim of this study was to assess the contraction pattern of neck and shoulder muscles of orthodontists in natural environments.Electromyographic (EMG) activity of right sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles were recorded by means of portable recorders in eight orthodontists during working conditions, and both active and resting non-working conditions. Recordings were analysed in terms of contraction episode (CE) count, amplitude, and duration. The sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles contracted about 40–70 times per hour in the natural environment. Their EMG activity pattern mainly consisted of short-lasting, low-amplitude CEs. The counts and amplitude of sternocleidomastoid CEs did not differ across vocational and non-vocational conditions. The number and amplitude of trapezius CEs were slightly but significantly higher during the vocational condition. There were highly significant (p < 0.001) differences in duration of CEs across conditions, with two to threefold increase in the average duration of trapezius muscle contractions found in the vocational setting.During orthodontic work, operators commonly hold muscular contractions for significantly longer periods than are encountered in non-vocational settings. This behaviour may be associated causally with the increases seen in WMSDs through proposed pathophysiological mechanisms occurring at the motor unit level. Our findings may also be valid for other occupations characterised by seated static postures with precision hand and wrist movements.  相似文献

This study aimed at investigating two aspects of neuromuscular control around the hip and knee joint while executing the roundhouse kick (RK) using two techniques: Impact RK (IRK) at trunk level and No-Impact RK at face level (NIRK). The influence of technical skill level was also investigated by comparing two groups: elite Karateka and Amateurs. Surface electromyographic (sEMG) signals have been recorded from the Vastus Lateralis (VL), Biceps Femoris (BF), Rectus Femoris (RF), Gluteus Maximum (GM) and Gastrocnemious (GA) muscles of the kicking leg in six Karateka and six Amateurs performing the RKs. Hip and knee kinematics were also assessed. EMG data were rectified, filtered and normalized to the maximal value obtained for each muscle over all trials; co-activation (CI) indexes of antagonist vs. overall (agonist and antagonist) activity were computed for hip and knee flexion and extension. Muscle Fiber Conduction Velocity (CV) obtained from VL and BF muscles was assessed as well. The effect of group and kick on angular velocity, CIs, and CVs was tested through a two-way ANOVA (p < 0.05). An effect of group was showed in both kicks. Karateka presented higher knee and hip angular velocity; higher BF-CV (IRK: 5.1 ± 1.0 vs. 3.5 ± 0.5 m/s; NIRK: 5.7 ± 1.3 vs. 4.1 ± 0.5 m/s), higher CIs for hip movements and knee flexion and lower CI for knee extension. The results obtained suggest the presence of a skill-dependent activation strategy in the execution of the two kicks. CV results are suggestive of an improved ability of elite Karateka to recruit fast MUs as a part of training induced neuromuscular adaptation.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to examine the patterns of responses for torque, electromyographic (EMG) amplitude, EMG mean power frequency (MPF), mechanomyographic (MMG) amplitude, and MMG MPF across 30 repeated maximal isometric (ISO) and concentric (CON) muscle actions of the leg extensors. Twelve female subjects (21.1 ± 1.4 yrs; 63.3 ± 7.4 kg) performed ISO and CON fatigue protocols with EMG and MMG signals recorded from the vastus lateralis. The relationships for torque, EMG amplitude, EMG MPF, MMG amplitude, and MMG MPF versus repetition number were examined using polynomial regression. The results indicated there were decreases (p < 0.05) across the ISO muscle actions for torque (r2 = 0.95), EMG amplitude (R2 = 0.44), EMG MPF (r2 = 0.62), and MMG MPF (r2 = 0.48), but no change in MMG amplitude (r2 = 0.07). In addition, there were decreases across the CON muscle actions for torque (R2 = 0.97), EMG amplitude (R2 = 0.46), EMG MPF (R2 = 0.86), MMG amplitude (R2 = 0.44), and MMG MPF (R2 = 0.80). Thus, the current findings suggested that the mechanisms of fatigue and motor control strategies used to modulate torque production were similar between maximal ISO and CON muscle actions.  相似文献

Tension-type headache (TTH) is a prototypical disorder in which muscular factors play a key role in the pathogenesis. This study was designed to understand muscular dysfunction in patients with episodic (ETTH) and chronic TTH (CTTH) using surface electromyography analysis (SEMG). Women with frequent ETTH (n = 14), CTTH (n = 14) and age-matched controls (n = 13) were recruited. SEMG data were recorded from the masseter, sternocleidomastoid, and upper trapezius muscles during maximum voluntary contraction and sustained voluntary isometric clenching, the neck flexion endurance test and shoulder elevation for 30 s. The root mean square (RMS) and median frequency (MDF) of the SEMG signal were measured throughout the test. The fatigue index, which is the MDF slope during sustained muscle contraction, decreased significantly faster in the ETTH and CTTH groups compared with that in the control (p < 0.05). The mean absolute RMS and relative percentage values at the initial and final period during sustained isometric contraction decreased significantly in the CTTH group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, headache clinical parameters (frequency and duration) were negatively correlated with the amplitude values (p < 0.05). A different muscle firing pattern or some muscle modifications in patients with CTTH may reflect reorganization of the motor-control strategy.  相似文献

The first aim of this investigation was to quantify the distribution of trapezius muscle activity with different scapular postures while seated. The second aim of this investigation was to examine the association between changes in cervical and scapular posture when attempting to recruit different subdivisions of the trapezius muscle. Cervical posture, scapular posture, and trapezius muscle activity were recorded from 20 healthy participants during three directed shoulder postures. Planar angles formed by reflective markers placed on the acromion process, C7, and tragus were used to quantify cervical and scapular posture. Distribution of trapezius muscle activity was recorded using two high-density surface electromyography (HDsEMG) electrodes positioned over the upper, middle, and lower trapezius. Results validated the assumption that directed scapular postures preferentially activate different subdivisions of the trapezius muscle. In particular, scapular depression was associated with a more inferior location of trapezius muscle activity (r = 0.53). Scapular elevation was coupled with scapular abduction (r = 0.52). Scapular adduction was coupled with cervical extension (r = 0.35); all other changes in cervical posture were independent of changes in scapular posture. This investigation provides empirical support for reductions in static loading of the upper trapezius and improvements in neck posture through verbal cueing of scapular posture.  相似文献

Eight Boer (75%) × Spanish (BS) and eight Spanish (S) wether goats (155 ± 8 days of age and 19.2 ± 2.3 kg BW, initial) were used in a replicated crossover design experiment with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments to determine the effects of genotype and diet quality on heat production with ad libitum, near maintenance and fasting levels of feed intake. Diets were 65% concentrate (CON 15% CP, DM basis) and coarsely ground alfalfa hay (FOR 23% CP). There were no significant interactions between genotype and diet. ME intake was similar between genotypes and greater (P < 0.05) for CON versus FOR both when intake was ad libitum (7.60 versus 5.43 MJ/day) and near maintenance (4.31 versus 4.09 MJ/day). DE concentration was greater (P < 0.05) for CON than for FOR with ad libitum (74.4 versus 55.5%) and restricted intake (77.0 versus 59.6%). Energy expenditure (EE), determined by respiration calorimetry, at all levels of intake was similar between genotypes. EE was greater (P < 0.05) for CON than for FOR at each of the three levels of intake, ad libitum (573 and 521 kJ/kg BW0.75 while fasting), near maintenance (426 and 400 kJ/kg BW0.75) and fasting (280 and 255 kJ/kg BW0.75). Efficiencies of ME utilization for maintenance (km) and gain (kg) and the ME requirement for maintenance (MEm) were similar between genotypes. km was similar between diets (0.705 and 0.690 for CON and FOR, respectively), although kg was greater (P < 0.05) for CON than for FOR (0.603 versus 0.387). MEm was numerically greater (P < 0.17) for CON than for FOR (407 versus 379 kJ/kg BW0.75), which may have involved higher ME intake with CON. In conclusion, under the conditions of this experiment energy requirements and efficiency of utilization were not different between growing Boer crossbred and Spanish goats regardless of diet quality.  相似文献
