Pseudempleurosoma gibsoni n. sp. (Monogenea: Ancyrocephalidae) is described from the oesophagus of Paralonchurus brasiliensis (Steindachner) from off the coast of Brazil. The type-species of Pseudempleurosoma Yamaguti, 1965, P. carangis Yamaguti, 1965, is redescribed and the diagnosis of the genus is amended. Metadiplectanotrema Gerasev et al. 1987 is considered synonym of Pseudempleurosoma. This genus now contains four species, including P. carangis, P. caranxi Gerasev et al., 1987 n. comb., P. myripristi Gerasev et al., 1987 n. comb. and the one new species.  相似文献

Littorellicola billhawkinsi n. gen., n. sp. infects the myocardial lacunae of the ventricle and atrium of Florida pompano, Trachinotus carolinus in the northern Gulf of Mexico. It differs from other aporocotylid genera by the combination of having a body 10–30× longer than wide, a posterolateral body protuberance, lateral spine rows, an aspinous anterior sucker comprising a slightly muscular rim circumscribing the mouth, asymmetrical posterior ceca 14–20× length of the anterior ceca and lacking diverticula or secondary rami, tens of testes distributing in a cobblestone-like field anterior and posterior to the distal ends of the posterior ceca, an oviducal seminal receptacle comprising the distal portion of the oviduct, and a post-cecal ovary plus by lacking rosethorn-shaped spines, a pharynx, and a Laurer's canal. The new species appears host specific to Florida pompano because no conspecific infection was detected in 134 carangids of 8 species in 4 genera captured nearby the type locality. Psettarium sebastodorum Holmes, 1971 is transferred to the new genus, as Littorellicola sebastodorum (Holmes, 1971) n. comb., because it and the new species differ from species of Psettarium by the combination of having multiple testes plus 8 other features detailed herein. This report brings the number of nominal Gulf of Mexico aporocotylids to 12 species of 8 genera, represents only the second record of an aporocotylid from a carangid there, and supports the notion that elongated, “thread-like” aporocotylids with lateral spine rows are seemingly well-adapted for infecting myocardial lacunae or embedding in the myocardium of their definitive fish hosts.  相似文献

The mangrove oyster Saccostrea palmula coexists with the pleasure oyster Crassostrea corteziensis in coastal lagoons of northwest Mexico. Recent discovery of Perkinsus marinus infecting the pleasure oyster in the region prompted evaluation of S. palmula as an alternative P. marinus host. An analysis to determine the possible presence of P. marinus in natural and cultured populations of S. palmula at four coastal lagoons in Sinaloa, Mexico was carried out during October-November 2010. Tissues from apparently healthy S. palmula were evaluated using Ray's fluid thioglycollate method (RFTM), which revealed a Perkinsus sp. to be present in all four locations at 6.7-20.0% prevalence. Histopathological analysis of these specimens showed tissue alterations and parasite forms consistent with moderate P. marinus infection, which was confirmed by ribosomal non-transcribed spacer (NTS)-based PCR assays on DNA samples from oysters positive by RFTM and histology. DNA sequencing of amplified NTS fragments (307 bp) produced a sequence 98-100% similar to GenBank-deposited sequences of the NTS from P. marinus. Fluorescent in situ hybridization for Perkinsus spp. and P. marinus corroborated the PCR results, showing clear hybridization of P. marinus in host tissues. This is the first record of P. marinus infecting a species from genus Saccostrea and the first record of the parasite from coastal lagoons in Sinaloa, Mexico.  相似文献

The distribution of free sterols, polyhydroxysteroids and steroid glycosides in different body components of the Far-eastern starfish Patiria (=Asterina) pectinifera has been studied. It was shown that free sterol fractions from aboral and oral body walls, gonads, stomach and pyloric ceca contained Delta(7) sterols with a preponderance of 5alpha-cholest-7-en-3beta-ol. All these body components had also toxic steroid oligoglycosides. However, polyhydroxysteroids and related low molecular weight steroid glycosides were found in stomach and pyloric ceca only. In pyloric ceca, the sulfated monoside 'asterosaponin' P(1) was identified as a main polar steroid, whereas 6-sodium sulfate of cholestane-3beta,4beta,6alpha,7alpha,8,15beta,16beta,26-octaol predominated in the stomach. Probable biological functions of polar steroids and free sterols in this starfish were discussed. It was suggested that some polyhydroxysteroids and related monoglycosides play the same biological role as bile alcohols and bile acids do in vertebrates.  相似文献

The diet and feeding mechanism in Cottus gobio and Parenophrys bubalis are described, together with the morphology and histology of the alimentary tract. Both species are sluggish bottom dwelling, carnivorous fish, and are capable of catching and swallowing relatively large prey. The gut is fully differentiated into esophagus, stomach, intestine with pyloric ceca, and rectum. The liver is morphologically separate from the pancreas, and separate bile and pancreatic ducts open into the base of one of the pyloric ceca. The organisation of the gut is well suited to the fishes' mode of life, showing adaptations for taking large meals which may be at irregular intervals.  相似文献

We describe a new species of Plagioporus Stafford, 1904 infecting the intestine of two catostomids in the eastern USA. We emend Plagioporus to account for Nearctic congeners having ceca terminating at the level of the testes (previously diagnosed as having ceca terminating in the post-testicular space only) and testes in the posterior body extremity (a feature not previously considered as having generic importance). Of the accepted Nearctic species, Plagioporus wataugaensis n. sp. resembles Plagioporus serotinus Stafford, 1904, Plagioporus hypentelii Hendrix, 1973, and Plagioporus hageli Fayton and Andres, 2016 but differs from them by the distribution of the vitellarium and proportional length and relative extent of the excretory vesicle. Plagioporus wataugaensis has vitelline fields that are discontinuous at the level of the ventral sucker (vs. continuous in P. serotinus and P. hypentelii) and follicles that surround the ceca (vs. wholly ventral to the ceca in P. hageli) and that span the midline dorsal to the testes (vs. slightly overlapping the lateral margins of the testes). The excretory vesicle of P. wataugaensis is wholly post-testicular and short (6–9% of the body length) (vs. reaching the level of the posterior testis, 14–24% of the body length). Phylogenetic analyses of the 28S, ITS1, 5.8S, and ITS2 rDNA recovered P. wataugaensis sister to Plagioporus sinitsini Mueller, 1934. A key to the Nearctic Plagioporus spp. is provided. We regard Plagioporus shawi (McIntosh, 1939) Margolis, 1970, Plagioporus serratus Miller, 1940, and Plagioporus loboides (Curran, Overstreet, and Tkach, 2007) Fayton and Andres, 2016 as incertae sedis.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Examination of littoral fish Blennius pholis and Cottus bubalis caught at Aberystwyth and Porth Cwyfan, Wales. U.K., revealed 2 species of coccidia.
Eimeria dingleyi sp. n. Oocysts spherical (16.1–19.2) to subspherical (13.9–14.2 × 18.8–20.0) μm, with thin walls; sporulation outside the host to produce ellipsoid sporocysts; endogenous phases in epithelial cells throughout intestine; 26 of 58 B. pholis infected.
Eimeria variabilis (Thélohan) Reichenow. Oocysts spherical (11.9–14.6) to subspherical (9.2–10.9 × 13.9–14.3) μm; sporulation in lining of pyloric ceca and rectum; previously unrecorded schizonts and gametocytes present; 21 of 25 C. bubalis infected.
Electron microscopy revealed that the oocyst wall of E. variabilis consists of a thin membrane whereas the sporocyst wall is thick and 3-layered. Typical oocyst wall-forming bodies were absent from the macrogamete. Cytochemical tests on the endogenous stages of E. dingleyi and E. variabilis indicated that in general they resembled other coccidia in their chemical constitution.  相似文献

Lobosorchis tibaldiae n. gen. and n. sp. (Digenea: Cryptogonimidae) is described from the intestine, pyloric ceca, and rectum of 2 species of Lutjanus (Pisces: Lutjanidae), Lutjanus carponotatus and Lutjanus fulviflamma, from the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia, and New Caledonia. The genus is tentatively placed in the Neochasminae and is distinguished within the Cryptogonimidae by the combination of follicular testes, oral spines, and vitelline follicles restricted to the anterior region of the body not extending posteriorly to the ventral sucker.  相似文献

Nystatin is a membrane-active polyene macrolide antibiotic and a channel-forming ionophore. Nystatin exhibits in vitro activity against Babesia gibsoni infecting normal canine erythrocytes containing low potassium (LK) and high sodium concentrations, i.e., LK erythrocytes. The calculated IC(50) value of nystatin against B. gibsoni infecting LK erythrocytes was 31.96 μg/ml. The anti-babesial activity of nystatin disappeared when B. gibsoni in LK erythrocytes were incubated in culture media containing high potassium concentrations (HK). Moreover, when the parasites were harbored in canine HK erythrocytes, which contained high potassium and low sodium concentrations as a result of high Na-K-ATPase activity, the in vitro anti-babesial activities of nystatin also disappeared, apparently due to protection by HK erythrocytes. This suggested that nystatin could show in vitro anti-babesial activity against B. gibsoni by its ionophorous activity, the same as other ionophores such as valinomycin. Subsequently, the effects of nystatin on the host cells were observed. Nystatin could not modify the intracellular concentrations of potassium, sodium, adenosine triphosphate, or glucose in either LK or HK erythrocytes, although it caused weak hemolysis in HK erythrocytes. In addition, nystatin did not affect the survival of canine peripheral polymorphonuclear leukocytes. In conclusion, nystatin destroyed B. gibsoni by ionophorous activity but did not affect either canine erythrocytes or leukocytes in vitro.  相似文献

The pyloric region in the alimentary tract of Tetrodontophora bielanensis consists of three parts, of which the first (P1) belongs to the midgut and the others (P2, P3) to the hindgut. Behind the pyloric region in the hindgut, sphincter (S), rectum (R1, R2) and rectal ampulla (AR) follow. Morphologically, the cells of part P1 differ in structure from the midgut epithelial cells described by Kazysztofowicz et al. [11], both by presence of microtubular bodies in an apical region and by the lack of the mitochondrial region. The cytoplasm of the cells of part P3 is filled with lysosome-like bodies with an unknown function. The authors suggest that they are connected with a secretion of the pheromons. The structure of rectum epithelial cells is typical of insects.  相似文献

Two new species of Cardicola (Digenea: Sanguinicolidae) are described from the heart of drums (Perciformes: Sciaenidae) in and off Mississippi and Louisiana. Cardicola palmeri n. sp. infects the black drum, Pogonias cromis, and, in mature individuals, is distinguished from its congeners by the combination of a body 1.9-2.9 times longer than wide, an esophagus 44-52% of the body length, posterior ceca 1.0-1.8 times longer than the anterior ones, a gland encircling the seminal vesicle that is 30-37% of maximum body width in diameter, and a sinistral and nearly medial male pore. Cardicola currani n. sp. infects the red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus, and is distinguished from its congeners by the combination of posterior ceca 1.8-4.2 times longer than anterior ones, a male pore located well posterior to the ootype, a female pore and transverse metraterm located just anterior to the level of the ootype, and a medial and posttesticular ovary located at the level of the terminal ends of the posterior ceca. No adult blood fluke had been described previously from the northern Gulf of Mexico west of Florida. Each of the 2 flukes infected only 1 host species despite the hosts being sympatric.  相似文献

Heteromyoxyuris otomii n. sp., which inhabits the intestinal caecum of Perognathus flavus (Heteromyidae), in Zaragoza, Hidalgo, Mexico, is described. This new species differs from the 2 other congeneric species in the morphology and length of lateral alae in males. Heteromyoxyuris deserti has simple lateral alae located at both sides of the body, whereas in the new species, these structures are double at both sides; in contrast, lateral alae of Heteromyoxyuris longejector begin at the posterior half of the body, whereas they arise in the first third in the new species. Heteromyoxyuris longejector was found in 2 new host species, i.e., Perognathus amplus and Chaetodipus hispidus. This record represents the first record for the species in Mexico, increasing its geographic distribution.  相似文献

The morphological development of larval cobia Rachycentron canadum from 3 days post hatch (dph) until weaning (27 dph) was examined using S.E.M. Two groups of fish were studied: a control group (CF), reared under standard feeding protocol, and a group in which prey items were enriched with supplemental taurine (4 g l(-1) day(-1) ; TF). TF fish grew faster (P < 0·001), attained greater size (mean ±s.e. 55·1 ± 1·5 v. 33·9 ± 1·0 mm total length) and had better survival (mean ±s.e. 29·3 ± 0·4 v. 7·1 ± 1·2 %) than CF fish. Canonical variance analysis confirmed findings with respect to differences in growth between the treatment groups with separation being explained by two cranial measurements. S.E.M. revealed that 3 dph larvae of R. canadum (in both groups) possess preopercular spines, superficial neuromasts on the head and body, taste buds in the mouth, an olfactory epithelium which takes the form of simple concave depressions, and primordial gill arches. Gill filaments start to form as early as 6 dph and lamellae buds are visible at 8 dph in both groups. In CF fish, the cephalic lateral line system continues its development at 12-14 dph with invagination of both supra- and infraorbital canals. At the same time, a thorn-like or acanthoid crest forms above the eye. At 14 dph, invaginations of the mandibular and preopercular canals are visible and around 22 dph enclosure of all cranial canals nears completion. In CF larvae, however, completely enclosed cranial canals were not observed within the course of the trial, i.e. 27 dph. In TF larvae, grooves of the cephalic lateral line system form 4 days earlier than observed in CF larvae of R. canadum (i.e. at 8 dph), with enclosure commencing at 16 dph, and completed by 27 dph. Along the flanks of 6 dph larvae of either treatment, four to five equally spaced neuromasts delineate the future position of the trunk lateral line. As myomeres are added to the growing larvae, new neuromasts appear such that at 16 dph a neuromast is associated with each myomere. By 27 dph, the trunk lateral line starts to invaginate in CF larvae, while it initiates closure in TF larvae. These findings elucidate important features of the larval development of R. canadum and show that dietary taurine supplementation benefits larval development, growth and survival in this species. Moreover, they suggest a conditional requirement for taurine in larval R. canadum.  相似文献

Parabrachycoelium longicaecum n. gen., n. sp. (Digenea: Brachycoeliidae) is described from the intestine of a plethodontid salamander Chiropterotriton sp. Hosts were collected in bromeliads at the cloud forest of Tlaquilpa, Veracruz, Mexico. Members of the Brachycoeliidae Looss, 1899 (sensu Yamaguti, 1971) are characterized by having a spined tegument; ceca usually short, not passing level of gonads, but longer in some species; gonads posterior to, or in region of, acetabulum, with ovary anterior to testes; a well developed cirrus pouch containing a bipartite seminal vesicle; and uterus occupying entire hind-body posterior to testes. However, this combination of morphological traits prevents the inclusion of the new taxon in any of the genera in that family; a new genus was, therefore, erected to accommodate the new species. The new taxon is readily distinguished from members belonging to Brachycoelium Dujardin, 1845, Mesocoelium Odhner, 1910, and Tremiorchis Mehra and Negi, 1925, by having long ceca extending into the posterior third of the body, slightly surpassing the testes, and vitellaria extending along the body. The new species morphologically resembles Caudouterina rhyacotritoni Martin, 1966, a digenean parasitizing a plethodontid salamander; however, the latter species lacks spines in the tegument and is actually placed within the Allocreadiidae. To demonstrate further the phylogenetic position of the new taxon, we sequenced the D1-D3 regions of 28S rRNA gene and conducted a phylogenetic analysis of available sequences for the order to which brachycoeliids belong (Plagiorchiida). Sequence divergence of the partial 28S rRNA gene confirms its distinction from the aforementioned brachycoeliids, and the phylogenetic position within the Plagiorchiida places the new species as closely related to a clade formed by Brachycoelium + Mesocoelium. Divergence levels and phylogenetic position within the Plagiorchiida verifies the validity of the new genus and its inclusion in Brachycoeliidae.  相似文献

A procedure was developed for introducing the coliphage Mu d1 (Apr lac) into Salmonella typhimurium in order to construct gene fusions that place the structural genes of the lac operon under the control of the promoter-regulatory region of other genes. To introduce Mu d1 from Escherichia coli K-12 into S. typhimurium, which is normally not a host for Mu, we first constructed an E. coli double lysogen carrying the defective Mu d1 phage and a Mu-P1 hybrid helper phage (MuhP1) that confers the P1 host range. A lysate prepared from this strain was used to infect a P1-sensitive (i.e., galE), restriction-deficient, modification-proficient strain of S. typhimurium, and a double lysogen carrying Mu d1 and MuhP1 was isolated. Induction of the latter strain produced lysates capable of infecting and generating gene fusions in P1-sensitive strains of S. typhimurium. In this paper we describe the construction of pyr::lac fusions by this technique.  相似文献

Caballerolecythus ibunami n. gen., n. sp. is described from the intestine of 2 species of rodents (Liomys irroratus [Gray, 1868] and Peromyscus difficilis [Allen, 1891]) from Pi?onal, El Carmen Tequexquitla, Tlaxcala state, Mexico. These specimens represent a new genus and a new species of Dicrocoeliinae by possession of an extremely short ceca (ending at equatorial level of ovary); vitelline follicles that begin posterior to these structures, without overlapping; and a body that is long and slender (length/width ratio 1:17-21). To the best of our knowledge, this combination of characters has not been reported in other genera of this subfamily (Athesmia Looss, 1899; Unilaterilecithum Oshmarin in Skrjabin and Evranova, 1952; and Pseudathesmia Travassos, 1942).  相似文献

Malawitrema staufferi n. gen., n. sp., an unusual digenean, is described from Clarias mossambicus (type host) and Bagrus meridionalis from Lake Malawi. It has a small, pyriform body, with a spinous tegument. The ceca are relative short, not reaching to the testes. The 2 testes are symmetrical in the middle hind body. The cirrus sac is long and narrow, reaching into hind body. The genital pore is median, immediately anterior to the ventral sucker. The ovary is pretesticular, and a canalicular seminal vesicle and Laurer's canal are present. The uterus usually reaches distinctly posteriorly to testes. The eggs are small. The follicular vitellarium is in 2 small fields just anterior to testes. The ventrally subterminal excretory pore leads to a claviform vesicle. This species does not fit clearly into any known family of digeneans and is placed in the Macroderoididae as a temporary measure. Other digeneans reported from Lake Malawi include Haplorchoides cahirinus (Looss, 1896) in C. mossambicus and B. meridionalis; Astiotrema turneri Bray, van Oosterhout, Blais & Cable, 2006 in Protomelas annectens, P. cf. taeniolatus, Labeotropheus fuelleborni, Ctenopharynx (Otopharynx) pictus, and Pseudotropheus zebra; Glossidium pedatum Looss, 1899 in C. mossambicus and B. meridionalis; and an unidentifiable sanguinicolid from Bathyclarias nyasensis.  相似文献

The monogene Dactylogyrus eucalius Mizelle and Regensberger, 1945 and its ability to maintain a population from year to year on the annual fish Culaea inconstans Kirkland was examined in a small lake in central Ontario. Fish were sampled toward the end of their annual breeding season, at a time when the host population consisted of 2 cohorts, i.e., young-of-the-year (0+) and mature adults (1+). Prevalence of infection was 94%, with a mean intensity of 8.8 +/- 9.6; neither measure varied significantly with host length or between cohorts (P > 0.05). At necropsy, parasites were characterized as juveniles that included postoncomiracidia (immature, with a ventrally directed haptor) as well as developing protandrous males (body with a near-complete haptor and with little or no pigmented vitellaria), or as adults (with testis, ovarium, darkened vitellaria, and occasionally bearing a tanned egg). The proportion of juvenile to adult parasites differed significantly between cohorts (P < 0.05), with 0+ fish infected with a mixture of juveniles and adults, whereas 1+ fish had almost exclusively adult parasites. Since adult (1+) brook stickleback typically die after spawning, the increased frequency of juvenile parasites exploiting juvenile hosts may represent an evolutionary adaptation, maximizing the chances of parasites infecting hosts that will enter winter. It is suspected that 0+ fish can be infected in the nest within 2 wk of hatching and persist by effectively infecting new host recruits when they are sympatric with their parents.  相似文献
