Post-storage gas exchange parameters like CO2 assimilation, stomatal conductance, transpiration, water use efficiency and intercellular CO2 concentrations, together with several chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters: Fo, Fv, Fv/Fm, Fm/Fo and Fv/Fo were examined in radiata pine (Pinus radiata D. Don) seedlings that were stored for 1, 8 or 15 days at 4° or 10°C with or without soil around the roots. Results were analysed in relation to post-storage water potential and electrolyte leakage in order to forecast their vitality (root growth potential) following cold storage, and post-planting survival potential under optimal conditions. During storage at 4° and 10°C, photosynthesis was reduced, being more pronounced in bare-root seedlings than in seedlings with soil around the roots. The depletion of CO2 assimilation seemed not to be solely a stomatal effect as effects on chloroplasts contributed to this photosynthetic inhibition. Thus, the fall in the ratios Fv/Fm, Fv/Fo and Fm/Fo indicated photochemical apparatus damage during storage. Photosynthetic rate was positively correlated with the root growth index and new root length showing that new root growth is dependent primarily on current photosynthesis. Pre-planting exposure of bare-root radiata pine seedlings to temperatures of 10°C for more than 24 h during transportation or storage is not recommended.  相似文献

Seasonal variability of maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) was studied in needles of Taxus baccata seedlings acclimated to full light (HL, 100% solar irradiance), medium light (ML, 18% irradiance) or low light (LL, 5% irradiance). In HL plants, Fv/Fm was below 0.8 (i.e. state of photoinhibition) throughout the whole experimental period from November to May, with the greatest decline in January and February (when Fv/Fm value reached 0.37). In ML seedlings, significant declines of Fv/Fm occurred in January (with the lowest level at 0.666), whereas the decline in LL seedlings (down to 0.750) was not significant. Full recovery of Fv/Fm in HL seedlings was delayed until the end of May, in contrast to ML and LL seedlings. Fv/Fm was significantly correlated with daily mean (T mean), maximal (T max) and minimal (T min) temperature and T min was consistently the best predictor of Fv/Fm in HL and ML needles. Temperature averages obtained over 3 or 5 days prior to measurement were better predictors of Fv/Fm than 1- or 30-day averages. Thus our results indicate a strong light-dependent seasonal photoinhibition in needles of T. baccata as well as suggest a coupling of Fv/Fm to cumulative temperature from several preceding days. The dependence of sustained winter photoinhibition on light level to which the plants are acclimated was further demonstrated when plants from the three light environments were exposed to full daylight over single days in December, February and April and Fv/Fm was followed throughout the day to determine residual sensitivity of electron transport to ambient irradiance. In February, the treatment revealed a considerable midday increase in photoinhibition in ML plants, much less in HL (already downregulated) and none in LL plants. This suggested a greater capacity for photosynthetic utilization of electrons in LL plants and a readiness for rapid induction of photoinhibition in ML plants. Further differences between plants acclimated to contrasting light regimes were revealed during springtime de-acclimation, when short term regeneration dynamics of Fv/Fm and the relaxation of nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) indicated a stronger persistent thermal mechanism for energy dissipation in HL plants. The ability of Taxus baccata to sustain winter photoinhibition from autumn until late spring can be beneficial for protection against an excessive light occurring together with frosts but may also restrict photosynthetic carbon gain by this shade-tolerant species when growing in well illuminated sites.  相似文献

The effects of shade on the growth, leaf photosynthetic characteristics, and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters of Lycoris radiata var. radiata were determined under differing irradiances (15, 65, and 100% of full irradiance) within pots. The HI plants exhibited a typical decline in net photosynthetic rate (P N) during midday, which was not observed in MI- and LI plants. This indicated a possible photoinhibition in HI plants as the ratio of variable to maximum fluorescence (Fv/Fm) value was higher and the minimal fluorescence (F0) was lower in the, and LI plants. Diurnal patterns of stomatal conductance (g s) and transpiration rate (E) were remarkably similar to those of P N at each shade treatments, and the intercellular CO2 concentration (C i) had the opposite change trend. Under both shading conditions, the light saturation point, light compensation point and photon-saturated photosynthetic rate (P max) became lower than those under full sunlight, and it was the opposite for the apparent quantum yield (AQY). The higher the level of shade, the lower the integrated daytime carbon gain, stomatal and epidermis cell densities, specific leaf mass (SLM), bulb mass ratio (BMR), leaf thickness, and Chl a/b ratio. In contrast, contents of Chls per dry mass (DM), leaf area ratio (LAR), leaf mass ratio (LMR), leaf length, leaf area and total leaf area per plant increased under the same shade levels to promote photon absorption and to compensate for the lower radiant energy. Therefore, when the integrated daytime carbon gain, leaf area and total leaf area per plant, which are the main factors determining the productivity of L. radiata var. radiata plant, were taken into account together, this species may be cultivated at about 60∼70% of ambient irradiance to promote its growth.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate acclimation of micropropagated plants of Rhododendron ponticum subsp. baeticum to different irradiances and recovery after exposure to high irradiance. Plants grown under high (HL) or intermediate (IL) irradiances displayed higher values of maximum electron transport rate (ETRmax) and light saturation coefficient (Ek) than plants grown under low irradiance (LL). The capacity of tolerance to photoinhibition (as assessed by the response of photochemical quenching, qp) varied as follows: HL > IL > LL. Thermal energy dissipation (qN) was also affected by growth irradiance, with higher saturating values being observed in HL plants. Light-response curves suggested a gradual replacement of qp by qN with increasing irradiance. Following exposure to irradiance higher than 1500 μmol m−2 s−1, a prolonged reduction of the maximal photochemical efficiency of PS 2 (Fv/Fm) was observed in LL plants, indicating the occurrence of chronic photoinhibition. In contrary, the decrease in Fv/Fm was quickly reverted in HL plants, pointing to a reversible photoinhibition.  相似文献

Calycanthus chinensis is an endangered plant of the national second-grade protection of China restricted in a small area in Zhejiang Province. We studied parameters of photosynthesis, chlorophyll (Chl) contents, and Chl fluorescence (minimum fluorescence, F0, maximum fluorescence, Fm, variable fluorescence, Fv, and Fv/Fm) of C. chinensis and Chimonanthus praecox. C. chinensis had lower compensation irradiance but higher saturation irradiance than C. praecox. Hence C. chinensis has more advantage in obtaining and utilizing photon energy and higher Chl content, and is more adaptive to higher temperature and propitious to thermal dissipation than C. praecox. In addition, C. chinensis produces abundant, well-preserved seed with a higher germination rate and a wider adaptability to temperature than C. praecox. Thus C. chinensis is prone to survival and viability, and gets rid of the endangered plant species of the national second-grade protection of China.  相似文献

An earliness per se gene, designated Eps-Am1, was mapped in diploid wheat in F2 and single-seed descent mapping populations from the cross between cultivated (DV92) and wild (G3116) Triticum monococcum accessions. A QTL with a peak on RFLP loci Xcdo393 and Xwg241, the most distal markers on the long arm of chromosome 1Am, explained 47% of the variation in heading date (LOD score 8.3). Progeny tests for the two F2:3 families with critical recombination events between Xcdo393 and Xwg241 showed that the gene was distal to Xcdo393 and linked to Xwg241. Progeny tests and replicated experiments with line #3 suggested that Eps-Am1 was distal to Xwg241. This gene showed a large effect on heading date in the controlled environment experiments, and a smaller, but significant, effect under natural conditions. Eps-Am1 showed significant epistatic interactions with photoperiod and vernalization treatments, suggesting that the different classes of genes affecting heading date interact as part of a complex network that controls the timing of flowering induction. Besides its interactions with other genes affecting heading date, Eps-Am1 showed a significant interaction with temperature. The effect of temperature was larger in plants carrying the DV92 allele for late flowering than in those carrying the G3116 allele for early flowering. Average differences in heading date between the experiments performed at 16 °C and 23 °C were approximately 11 days (P < 0.001) for the lines carrying the Eps-Am1 allele for early flowering but approximately 50 days (P < 0.0001) for the lines carrying the allele for late flowering. The large differences in heading time (average 80 days) observed between plants carrying the G3116 and DV92 alleles when grown at 16 °C, suggest that it would be possible to produce very detailed maps for this gene to facilitate its future positional cloning.  相似文献

Abstract Gas exchange and growth of beech seedlings planted in the understory of a recently thinned pinewood were recorded for 2 years. Relative irradiance was assessed by hemispherical photographs taken just after the thinning. Predawn water potential (pd), daily gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence were measured several times during the two growing seasons. Maximum values of photosynthesis (A max) and stomatal conductance to water vapour (g wvmax) were established from daily data. Maximum quantum efficiency of PS II was recorded at dawn by taking the variable to maximum chlorophyll fluorescence ratio on dark adapted leaves (F v/F m). In the middle of each summer, leaf nitrogen content and leaf mass per area were evaluated, and height growth and basal area increment were recorded at the end of the season. The thinning treatment removed half the trees and generated around 10% more available relative irradiance (GLF). This was followed by an increase in net photosynthesis at saturating PPFD (A sat) and in maximum stomatal conductance to water vapour (g wvmax). Moreover, specific leaf mass (SLM) and mass based nitrogen content (Nm) showed higher values for seedlings in the thinned stand. In both years, a positive relationship was established between the area based nitrogen content (Na) and maximum net photosynthesis (A max). In 1998, a year with a dry summer, seedlings suffered a significant drop in daily A max irrespective of the thinning regime. This was a response to an increase in stomatal limitation to net photosynthesis, g wvmax reaching the lowest value on dates with the highest drought. A lack of decrease of Fv/Fm confirmed the absence of significant non-stomatal limitation to A as a consequence of photoinhibition after opening the pinewood. A higher maximum quantum efficiency of open PS II centres (Fv/Fm) was registered in seedlings in the thinned stand. The significance of the differences between the treatments was stronger in the second year after thinning. In 1999, a year with frequent summer storms, water availability increased for seedlings growing under the thinned pinewood. Overall, the reduced pine overstory had a positive effect on physiological responses of beech seedlings, which was translated into improved seedling growth.  相似文献

Photosynthetic parameters were measured in two invasive weeds, Mikania micrantha and Chromolaena odorata, grown in soil under full, medium, and low irradiance and full, medium, and low water supply. Both species showed significantly higher net photosynthetic rate, quantum yield of PS 2 photochemistry and photochemical quenching coefficient under high than low irradiance. For M. micrantha, low irradiance caused decreased chlorophyll content (Chl), Chl a/b ratio and maximum photochemical efficiency of PS 2 (Fv/Fm), while drought decreased Chl content and Fv/Fm and increased nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ). However, these parameters were much less affected in C. odorata except that Chl content and NPQ slightly increased under drought and high irradiance. High irradiance increased xanthophyll pools in both species, especially M. micrantha under combination with drought.  相似文献

The epiphytic fern Platycerium bifurcatum grows in different habitats characterized by drought and high irradiance stress. The plant shows diurnal malate oscillations, indicative for CAM expression only in cover leaves, but not in sporotrophophyll. In P. bifurcatum cover leaves exposed to high irradiance and desiccation, the decrease in both CO2 assimilation (P N) and stomatal conductance (g s) was accompanied with occurrence of diurnal malate oscillations. Exogenously applied abscisic acid (ABA) induced the decrease in P N and g s, but no clear change in malate oscillations. The measurements of the maximum quantum efficiency of photosystem 2 (Fv/Fm) under high irradiance showed distinct photoinhibition, but no clear changes in Fv/Fm due to desiccation and ABA-treatment were found.  相似文献

Photosynthetic induction times and photoinhibition in relation to simulated sunflecks (sudden increase of irradiance from 20 to 1,500 μmol m−2 s−1) were examined in leaves of co-occurring Fagus lucida (a deciduous tree) and Castanopsis lamontii (an evergreen tree) saplings grown either in a beech forest understory or in an adjacent open site during a late rainy season. Two hypotheses were tested: (1) understory leaves would display faster photosynthetic induction times and greater photoinhibition than open-grown leaves; and (2) evergreen species would have slower photosynthetic induction times and lighter photoinhibition than deciduous species. Times to reach 90% of maximal CO2 assimilation rate (t 90%A ) and stomatal conductance did not differ between species, but showed faster by 3–5 min in open-grown leaves than understory leaves due to higher initial stomatal conductance (g s initial) and induction state 1 min into simulated sunflecks (IS1min) in the former. Our analysis across the published data on photosynthetic induction of 48 broad-leaved woody species again revealed the negative correlations between t 90%A and either g s initial or IS1min, and the similarity of t 90%A and between evergreen and deciduous species. Measurements of maximum PSII photochemical efficiency (F v/F m) indicated that photoinhibition occurred in saplings in any of the growth habitats during sunfleck-induced photosynthetic induction. Despite no interspecific differences in the degree of photoinhibition, understory leaves of both species suffered heavier photoinhibition than open-grown leaves, as indicated by a stronger decrease of F v/F m in the former. Dynamic changes in the quantum yields of PSII photochemistry and ΔpH- and xanthophyll-regulated thermal dissipation and adjustments in the partitioning of electron flow between assimilative and non-assimilative processes were functional to resist photoinhibition. However, such photoinhibition, together with stomatal and biochemical limitations, would decrease carbon gain during simulated sunflecks, particularly in understory leaves.  相似文献

Seeds of Suaeda salsa were cultured in dark for 3 d and betacyanin accumulation in seedlings was promoted significantly. Then the seedlings with accumulated betacyanin (C+B) were transferred to 14/10 h light/dark and used for chilling treatment 15 d later. Photosystem 2 (PS2) photochemistry, D1 protein content, and xanthophyll cycle during the chilling-induced photoinhibition (exposed to 5 °C at a moderate photon flux density of 500 μmol m−2 s−1 for 3 h) and the subsequent restoration were compared between the C+B seedlings and the control (C) ones. The maximal efficiency of PS2 photochemistry (Fv/Fm), the efficiency of excitation energy capture by open PS2 centres (Fv′/Fm′), and the yield of PS2 electron transport (ΦPS2) of the C+B and C leaves both decreased during photoinhibition. However, smaller decreases in Fv/Fm, Fv′/Fm′, and ΦPS2 were observed in the C+B leaves than in C ones. At the same time, the deepoxidation state of xanthophyll cycle, indicated by (A+Z)/(V+A+Z) ratio, increased rapidly but the D1 protein content decreased considerably during the photoinhibition. The increase in rate of (A+Z)/(V+A+Z) was higher but the D1 protein turnover was slower in C+B than C leaves. After photoinhibition treatment, the plants were transferred to a dim irradiation (10 μmol m−2 s−1) at 25 °C for restoration. During restoration, the chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters, D1 protein content, and xanthophyll cycle components relaxed gradually, but the rate and level of restoration in the C+B leaves was greater than those in the C leaves. The addition of betacyanins to the thylakoid solution in vitro resulted in similar changes of Fv/Fm, D1 protein content, and (A+Z)/(V+A+Z) ratio during the chilling process. Therefore, betacyanin accumulation in S. salsa seedlings may result in higher resistance to photoinhibition, larger slowing down of D1 protein turnover, and enhancement of non-radiative energy dissipation associated with xanthophyll cycle, as well as in greater restoration after photoinhibition than in the control when subjected to chilling at moderate irradiance.  相似文献

Commercial farming of the intertidal brown alga Hizikia fusiformis (Harvey) Okamura in China and South Korea in the sea depends on three sources of seedlings: holdfast-derived regenerated seedlings, young plants from wild population and zygote-derived seedlings. Like many successfully farmed seaweed species, the sustainable development of Hizikia farming will rely on a stable supply of artificial seedlings via sexual reproduction under controlled conditions. However, the high rate of detachment of seedlings after transfer to open sea is one of the main obstacles, and has limited large-scale application of zygote-derived seedlings. To seek the optimal condition for growing seedlings on substratum in land-based tanks for avoidance of detachment in this investigation, young seedlings were grown in both outdoor tanks exposed directly to sunlight and in indoor raceway tanks in reduced, filtered sunlight. Results showed that young seedlings, immediately after fertilization, could withstand a daily fluctuation of direct solar irradiance up to a level of 1800 μmol photons m−2 s−1, and maintained a faster growth rate than seedlings grown in indoor tanks. Detailed experiments by use of chlorophyll fluorescence measurements further demonstrated that the overnight (12 h) recovery of optimal fluorescence quantum yield (Fv/Fm) of seedlings after 1 h treatment at 40°C was 98%, and the 48 h recovery of Fv/Fm of seedlings after 1 h exposure to 1800 μmol m−2 s−1 was 92%. Forty-one-day-old seedlings showed no significant decrease of optimal fluorescence quantum yield at salinity ranging from 30 to 5 ppt for a treatment up to 17 h. Six-hour desiccation treatment did not have any influence on the optimal fluorescence quantum yield. Exposure to 18 mmol L−1 sodium hypochlorite for 10 min did not damage the PSII efficiency, and thus could be used to remove epiphytic algae. The strong tolerance of young seedlings to high temperature, high irradiance, low salinity and desiccation found in this investigation supports the view that mass production of Hizikia seedlings should be performed in ambient light and temperature instead of in shaded greenhouse tanks.  相似文献

Photosynthetic rates of green leaves (GL) and green flower petals (GFP) of the CAM plant Dendrobium cv. Burana Jade and their sensitivities to different growth irradiances were studied in shade-grown plants over a period of 4 weeks. Maximal photosynthetic O2 evolution rates and CAM acidities [dawn/dusk fluctuations in titratable acidity] were higher in leaves exposed to intermediate sunlight [a maximal photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of 500–600 μmol m−2 s−1] than in leaves grown under full sunlight (a maximal PPFD of 1 000–1 200 μmol m−2 s−1) and shade (a maximal PPFD of 200–250 μmol m−2 s−1). However, these two parameters of GFP were highest in plants grown under the shade and lowest in full sun-grown plants. Both GL and GFP of plants exposed to full sunlight had lower predawn Fv/Fm [dark adapted ratio of variable to maximal fluorescence (the maximal photosystem 2 yield without actinic irradiation)] than those of shade-grown plants. When exposed to intermediate sunlight, however, there were no significant changes in predawn Fv/Fm in GL whereas a significant decrease in predawn Fv/Fm was found in GFP of the same plant. GFP exposed to full sunlight exhibited a greater decrease in predawn Fv/Fm compared to those exposed to intermediate sunlight. The patterns of changes in total chlorophyll (Chl) content of GL and GFP were similar to those of Fv/Fm. Although midday Fv/Fm fluctuated with prevailing irradiance, changes of midday Fv/Fm after exposure to different growth irradiances were similar to those of predawn Fv/Fm in both GL and GFP. The decreases in predawn and midday Fv/Fm were much more pronounced in GFP than in GL under full sunlight, indicating greater sensitivity in GFP to high irradiance (HI). In the laboratory, electron transport rate and photochemical and non-photochemical quenching of Chl fluorescence were also determined under different irradiances. All results indicated that GFP are more susceptible to HI than GL. Although the GFP of Dendrobium cv. Burana Jade require a lower amount of radiant energy for photosynthesis and this plant is usually grown in the shade, is not necessarily a shade plant.  相似文献

Leaves under stressful conditions usually show downregulated maximum quantum efficiency of photosystem II [inferred from variable to maximum chlorophyll (Chl) a fluorescence (Fv/Fm), usually lower than 0.8], indicating photoinhibition. The usual method to evaluate the degree of photoinhibition in winter red leaves is generally by measuring the Fv/Fm on the red adaxial surface. Two phenotypes of overwintering Buxus microphylla ‘Wintergreen’ red leaves, with different measuring site and leaf thickness, were investigated in order to elucidate how red pigments in the outer leaf layer affected the Chl a fluorescence (Fv/Fm) and photochemical reflectance index. Our results showed that the Fv/Fm measured on leaves with the same red surface, but different leaf thickness, exhibited a slightly lower value in half leaf (separated upper and lower layers of leaves by removing the leaf edge similarly as affected by winter freezing and thawing) than that in the intact leaf (without removing the leaf edge), and the Fv/Fm measured on the red surface was significantly lower than that on the inner or backlighted green surface of the same thickness. Our results suggest that the usual measurement of Fv/Fm on red adaxial surface overestimates the actual degree of photoinhibition compared with that of the whole leaf in the winter.  相似文献

Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) is a biennial species. Shoot elongation (bolting) starts after a period of low temperature. The dominant allele of locus B causes early bolting without cold treatment. This allele is abundant in wild beets whereas cultivated beets carry the recessive allele. Fifteen AFLP markers, tightly linked to the bolting locus, have been identified using bulked segregant analysis. The F2-population consisted of 2,134 individuals derived after selfing a single F1-plant (Bb). In a first step, a linkage map was established with 249 markers based on 775 F2-individuals with a coverage of 822.3 cM. The loci are dispersed over nine linkage groups corresponding to the haploid chromosome number of Beta species. Seventeen marker loci were placed at a distance less than 3.2 cM around the bolting gene. In a second step, four of those markers most closely linked to B were mapped with the entire F2-population. Two of the markers were mapped flanking the B gene at distances of 0.14 and 0.23 cM. The other two markers were mapped at a distance of 0.5 cM from the gene. The tight linkage could be verified by testing 88 unrelated plants from a breeding program. The closely linked markers will enable breeders to select for the non-bolting character without laborious test crossings. Moreover, these markers are being used for map-based cloning of the bolting gene.  相似文献

Ten-year-old trees from four Italian populations of Pinus leucodermis (populations A, B, C and D), which were collected from different sites at different altitudes, were grown near Florence, Italy. Needle CO2 gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence response to increasing light intensities were evaluated; gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence variation between April and July were also monitored. Populations A, B and C showed a similar photosynthetic response to increasing photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) intensities, while at various light intensities population D, which originated from the highest altitude, showed the highest photosynthetic rates. In this population photosynthesis was saturated at PPFDs higher than 900 µmol m-2s-1 and a slow decrease of effective photosystem II quantum yield and F'V/F'M in response to increasing PPFDs were found. The same trees also showed a faster recovery in photosynthesis from limitations induced by winter temperatures than the other three populations. This work showed that photosynthetic response to light in population D was different from the other populations; trees from this population were probably naturally selected to prevent photoinhibition due to excess light.  相似文献

Photoinhibition is a significant constraint for improvement of radiation-use efficiency and yield potential in cereal crops. In this work, attached fully expanded leaves of seedlings were used to assay the factors determining photoinhibition and for evaluation of tolerance to photoinhibition in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Our results showed that even 1 h under PPFD of 600 µmol(photon) m?2 s?1 could significantly reduce maximal quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) and performance index (PI) compared to low light [300 µmol(photon) m?2 s?1]. The decrease of Fv/Fm and PI was more noticeable with the increase of light intensity; irradiance higher than 800 µmol(photon) m?2 s?1 resulted in photoinhibition. Compared to 25°C, lower (20°C) or higher temperature (≥ 35°C) aggravated photoinhibition, while slightly high temperature (28°) alleviated photoinhibition. At 25°C, irradiance of 1,000 µmol(photon) m–2 s–1 for 1 h was enough to cause photoinhibition and a significant decrease of Fv/Fm, PI, trapped energy flux, electron transport flux, and density of reaction center as well as increase of dissipated energy flux per cross section were observed. In addition, seedlings at 21–32 days after planting showed a relatively stable phenotype, while the younger or older seedlings indicated an increased susceptibility to photoinhibition, especially in senescing leaves. Finally, six wheat varieties with relative tolerance to photoinhibition were identified from 22 Chinese winter wheat varieties by exposing attached leaves of the 25-d old seedlings for 1 h to 1,000 µmol(photon) m–2 s–1 at 25°C. Therefore, our work established a possible method for development of new wheat varieties with enhanced tolerance to photoinhibition.  相似文献

Morphology, biomass accumulation and allocation, gas exchange, and chlorophyll fluorescence were compared for one-year-old seedlings of Salix psammophila and Artemisia ordosica, two dominant desert species, in response to two water supplies (equivalent to 315.0 mm for present precipitation in growing season and to 157.5 mm for future decreasing precipitation) during 105 d. For both species, photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2 (Fv/Fm), net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, biomass accumulation in different organs, tree height, number of leaves, and leaf area were reduced in response to the decrease in water supply. For both species, instantaneous water use efficiency was not affected by the water deficit. However, diurnal patterns of gas exchange and biomass allocation were affected in different ways for the two species, with notably a decrease in specific leaf area and an increase in root : shoot ratio for S. psammophila only. Overall, S. psammophila was more responsive to the decreasing precipitation than A. ordosica.  相似文献

A coastal Roseobacter strain of marine aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria (AAnPB) was isolated and phylogenetically determined. The strain OBYS 0001 was characterized by its physiological and biochemical properties with reference to the Erythrobacter longus type strain NBRC 14126. When grown in batch cultures, the growth curves of the both strains were similar. Cellular bacteriochlorophyll a concentrations of the strains reached the maxima in the stationary growth conditions. In vivo fluorescence excitation/optical density spectra between 470 and 600 nm for OBYS 0001 represented higher values than NBRC 14126. Variable fluorescence measurements revealed that the functional absorption cross section (σ) of the bacterial photosynthetic complexes for OBYS 0001 was significantly higher than that for NBRC 14126 under green excitation. These results suggest that Roseobacter can capture green light more efficiently than Erythrobacter for photosynthesis. The photochemical quantum efficiencies (F v/F m) of the bacterial photosynthetic complexes for OBYS 0001 were consistently lower than those for NBRC 14126. A relationship between the growth rate and F v/F m was significant for OBYS 0001, but that was not found for NBRC 14126. These results suggested that F v/F m for AAnPB could not be used as a proxy of the growth rate which is consistent with their mostly heterotrophic characters.  相似文献

The interactive effects of light intensity and controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer (CRNF) supply on growth, gas exchange, and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters of two species of potted Hosta seedlings, original species of the genus Hosta in China, were studied. N4 (4 g of CRNF per pot), N8 (8 g of CRNF per pot), and sometimes N12 (12 g of CRNF per pot), significantly increased total dry weights, net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g s), transpiration rate (E), the maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (F v/F m), the maximum ratio of quantum yields of photochemical and concurrent nonphotochemical processes in PSII (F v/F 0), actual efficiency of photochemical energy conversion in PSII under light (ΦPSII), and photochemical quenching coefficient (qP), but significantly decreased internal CO2 concentration (C i) and nonphotochemical Chl fluorescence quenching (NPQ) compared to control plants at different growth stages of the two Hosta species in two levels of light intensities (50% of natural light (L50) and 70% of natural light (L70)). Based on the available data, we concluded that the increments in total dry weights of Hosta clausa var. ensata and Hosta ventricosa by appropriate amount of CRNF supply treatments under L50 and/or L70 light conditions are directly related to the increments in the P N, which may be due to both stomatal and nonstomatal improvements for a longer growing time. Furthermore, there was an interaction between light intensity and CRNF supply treatments on growth and photosynthetic characteristics of the two Hosta species. The adaptability of Hosta plants with obvious stoloniferous rootstock to stronger light was higher than that of Hosta plants without obvious stoloniferous rootstock.  相似文献
