Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) of the brain describes the neuroprotection induced by a short, conditioning ischemic episode (CIE) to a subsequent severe (test) ischemic episode (TIE). Most of the supporting evidence for IPC is based on histological assessment, several days after TIE. The aim of this study is to investigate if changes induced by IPC can be detected within 30 min of reperfusion following the ischemic episode. A rat model of "four-vessel occlusion" transient global cerebral ischemia and parametric analysis of electrocorticogram were used. A control group was subjected directly to a 10 min TIE, and in a preconditioned group TIE was induced 48 h after a 3 min CIE. Quantitative histology was performed 48 h after TIE. Our key finding is that, 30 min after reperfusion, there is a significant increase in the electrocortical slow activity in the control group but not in the preconditioned group. Moreover the increase inversely correlates with the degree of electrocortical suppression during seconds 10 to 15 after the onset of the ischemic episode.  相似文献

This paper reports on the first test of the value of an online curriculum in social intelligence (SI). Built from current social and cognitive neuroscience research findings, the 50 session SI program was administered, with facilitation in Spanish by classroom instructors, to 207 students from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid as part of their undergraduate classes. All materials were translated into Castilian Spanish, including outcome measures of SI that have been used in prior studies to provide valid estimates of two key components of social intelligence: 1) Sensitivity to others and 2) confidence in one’s capacity to manage social situations. Pre- and Posttest were administered to participants in the SI training, and also to 87 students in similar classes who did not receive the program who served as the control group. Gender and emotional intelligence levels at pretest also were examined as potential individual differences that might affect the impact of the program on study outcomes. Repeated measures ANOVAs on study outcomes revealed significant increases, from pre to post, in most measures of social intelligence for program participants in comparison to controls, with no effects of gender or age on program effectiveness. Prior scores on emotional intelligence were not a prerequisite for learning from the program. Some findings suggest ways the program may be improved to have stronger effects. Nonetheless, the findings indicate that the SI program tested here shows considerable promise as a means to increase the willingness of young adults to take the perspective of others and enhance their efficacy for initiating and sustaining positive social connections.  相似文献

Background

Regulation of emotions in others is distinct from other activities related to trait emotional intelligence in that only such behavior can directly change other people''s psychological states. Although emotional intelligence has generally been associated with prosociality, emotionally intelligent people may manipulate others'' behaviors to suit their own interests using high-level capabilities to read and manage the emotions of others. This study investigated how trait emotional intelligence was related to interacting with ostracized others who attempt retaliation.

Method

We experimentally manipulated whether two people were simultaneously ostracized or not by using an online ball-tossing game called Cyberball. Eighty university students participated in Cyberball for manipulating ostracism and a “recommendation game,” a variation of the ultimatum game for assessing how to interact with others who attempt retaliation, with four participants. After the recommendation game, participants rated their intention to retaliate during the game.

Results

People with higher interpersonal emotional intelligence were more likely to recommend that the ostracized other should inhibit retaliation and maximize additional rewards when they have a weaker intention to retaliate. However, they were more likely to recommend that the ostracized other should retaliate against the ostracizers when they have a stronger intention to retaliate.

Conclusion

This is the first laboratory study that empirically reveals that people with high interpersonal emotional intelligence influence others'' emotions based on their own goals contrary to the general view. Trait emotional intelligence itself is neither positive nor negative, but it can facilitate interpersonal behaviors for achieving goals. Our study offers valuable contributions for the refinement of the trait emotional intelligence concept in the respect of its social function.  相似文献

Tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin and epidermal growth factor homology domains 2 (TIE2), the receptor for angiopoietins, has been found highly expressed in cervical cancer and associated with poor prognosis. However, the potential role of tumoral TIE2 in cervical cancer angiogenesis and the underlying mechanisms remain unexplored. Here, based on multicolor immunofluorescence of 64 cervical cancer tissues, we found that TIE2 level in cervical cancer cells was positively related to shorter survival and higher microvessel density in tumor. In vitro and in vivo experiments verified that TIE2-high cervical cancer cells could promote tumor angiogenesis. TIE2-high tumor cells induced an amplified expression of TIE2 and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2(VEGFR2) in HUVECs to promote angiogenesis via TIE2 -AKT/MAPK signals, which could be reversed or partially reversed by TIE2, AKT or MAPK inhibitors and activated by angiopoietin-1 and angiopoietin-2. In conclusion, TIE2-high cervical cancer cells promote tumor angiogenesis by upregulating TIE2 and VEGFR2 in endothelial cells via TIE2-AKT/MAPK axis inside tumor cells.  相似文献

Studies on personality traits conducted during the past decade indicate that there is a set of emotion-related traits on which individuals differ. Moreover, other studies showed that there are some abilities related to the processing of both emotions and emotional information, referred to as the concept of emotional intelligence. The authors of the article evaluated one hundred adults (ranging in age from 20–50) using the French version of a series of scales to measure stable emotionrelated traits and emotional intelligence. The results showed that these instruments provide accurate internal consistency and reliability, and that there are significant relationships between the individual emotional characteristics observed. A factorial analysis conducted with varimax rotation underlined five primary factors identified as: Clear-sightedness of emotions, Emotional richness, Identification, Understanding and Emotional control. The average emotional profiles based on these five primary factors depend on gender and age. In particular, the female and the oldest participants showed a greater emotional richness. The examination of these five factors should lead to a better understanding of the relationships which exist between these emotional characteristics and cognitive performances, and their involvement in clinical syndromes.  相似文献

Laboratory bioassays can provide an integrated assessment of the potential toxicity of contaminated sediments to aquatic organisms; however, toxicity as a sole endpoint is not particularly useful in terms of identifying remedial options. To focus possible remediation (e.g., source control), it is essential to know which contaminants are responsible for toxicity. Unfortunately, contaminated sediments can contain literally thousands of potentially toxic compounds. Methods which rely solely on correlation to identify contaminants responsible for toxicity are limited in several aspects: (a) actual compounds causing toxicity might not be measured, (b) concentrations of potentially toxic compounds may covary, (c) it may be difficult to assess the bioavailability of contaminants measured in a sediment, and (d) interactions may not be accounted for among potential toxicants (e.g., additivity). Toxicity identification evaluation (TIE) procedures attempt to circumvent these problems by using toxicity-based fractionation procedures to implicate specific contaminants as causative toxicants. Phase I of TIE characterizes the general physio-chemical nature of sample toxicants. Phase II employs methods to measure toxicants via different analytical methods, and Phase III consists of techniques to confirm that the suspect toxicants identified in Phases I and II of the TIE actually are responsible for toxicity. These TIE procedures have been used to investigate the toxicity of a variety of samples, including sediments. Herein we present a brief conceptual overview of the TIE process, and discuss specific considerations associated with sediment TIE research. Points addressed include: (a) selection and preparation of appropriate test fractions, (b) use of benthic organisms for sediment TIE work, and (c) methods for the identification of common sediment contaminants.  相似文献

Emotional intelligence (EI) is a promising concept in our understanding of emotional regulation, related behaviors and pathologies. However, research linking EI to underlying physiological and biological structure and responses is meager. This study explored potential associations of EI with electro-dermal activity (EDA) responses to emotionally arousing visual stimuli. It was hypothesized that higher levels of EI will associate with more efficient emotional regulation as reflected by EDA. Eighty-four healthy participants were exposed to stimuli consisting of a series of 12 images designed to evoke positive or negative emotional responses, presented in a counterbalanced order. A self-report questionnaire and a computer based test of EI were administered along with a demographic questionnaire. Several aspects related to health, such as satisfaction with life, perceived well-being, and psychopathological symptomatology have been associated with circadian typology and with emotional intelligence. Nevertheless, the relationships between circadian typology and emotional intelligence have not been explored yet. The purpose of the present study is to examine the relationships between circadian typology and emotional intelligence, taking into account the possible interactions between sex and physical exercise, and controlling for age. A sample of 1011 participants (649 women), aged between 18 and 50 yrs (26.92?±?6.53) completed the reduced Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (rMEQ) and the Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24 (TMMS-24). The TMMS-24 considers three dimensions of emotional intelligence: emotional attention, emotional clarity, and emotional repair. Women showed higher values for emotional attention, whereas men showed higher values for emotional repair (p?<?0.035, in both cases). Subjects who do physical exercise weekly showed higher values for emotional repair (p?=?0.001) regardless of circadian typology or sex. Circadian typology presents differences in all scores of emotional intelligence dimensions. Morning-type had lower emotional attention than evening- and neither-type; neither-type had lower emotional repair than morning-type, and lower emotional clarity than both evening- and morning-type (p?<?0.046, in all cases). Moreover, circadian typology modulated the sex differences in emotional attention, and only morning-type men showed a low emotional attention score. From the results of emotional intelligence we can conclude that morning typology may be a protective factor in terms of general health, whereas we should be aware that the neither-type may present a possible vulnerability to develop psychological problems.  相似文献

The effects of spatial task performance on heart rate characteristics were studied taking into account nonverbal intelligence and autonomic balance. Males and females with low nonverbal intelligence according to the Raven test were mostly sympathicotonics, while subjects with high intelligence were mostly vagotonics. A specific emotional response was observed in females with low and high nonverbal IQs immediately after the task completion and increased the stress index (SI). This clearly suggested that the task was stressful for them. To investigate the behavior of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in cord blood (CB), we analyzed the expression and function of TIE2, a tyrosine kinase receptor. A subpopulation of Lineage (Lin)(-/low)CD34(+) cells in CB expressed TIE2 (18.8%). Assays for long-term culture-initiating cells (LTC-IC) and cobble-stone formation revealed that Lin(-/low)CD34(+)TIE2(+) cells showed to have a capacity of primitive hematopoietic precursor cells in vitro. When Lin(-/low)CD34(+)TIE2(+) cells were cultured on the stromal cells, they transmigrated under the stromal layers and kept an immature character for a few weeks. By contrast, Lin(-/low)CD34(+)TIE2(-) cells differentiated immediately within a few weeks. Finally, we confirmed that 1x10(4)Lin(-/low)CD34(+)TIE2(+) cells were engrafted in non-obese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficiency (NOD/SCID) mice, while 1x10(4)Lin(-/low)CD34(+)TIE2(-) cells were not. Taken together, we conclude that TIE2 is a marker of HSCs in CB. A ligand for TIE2, Ang-1 promoted the adhesion of sorted primary Lin(-/low)CD34(+)TIE2(+) cells to fibronectin (FN), and this adhesion may play a critical role in keeping HSCs in an immature status under the stromal cells.  相似文献

目的 通过考察医务人员工作倦怠与特质情绪智力的相关关系,为探索改善医务人员工作倦怠状况的方法提供依据。方法 采用随机抽样的方式对552名医务人员进行工作倦怠和特质情绪智力问卷的调查。结果 (1)工作倦怠与特质情绪智力负性相关关系显著;(2)总体上,特质情绪智力对工作倦怠具有一定的负向预测作用。结论 可以通过对医务人员特质情绪智力的培养改善其工作倦怠感,培训方案的设计要注意整体性和全面性。

The purpose of this study was to obtain basic data necessary to design Korean folk clothes with comfortable thermal properties by carrying out the human wearing test under various ambient-temperature environments, by calculating the thermal insulation effect (TIE) of the Korean men's folk clothes (KMFC) on the basis of both material (silk, ramie and polyester) and season and by performing a comparative study with western style clothes.

2. 2. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: (i) the factor having an effect of the KMFC on the TIE is the air layer rather than the performance of materials, and (ii) the TIE of the Korean folk clothes confers a greater thermal resistance of the lower part of the body as compared with western style clothes.

Background

GWAS owe their popularity to the expectation that they will make a major impact on diagnosis, prognosis and management of disease by uncovering genetics underlying clinical phenotypes. The dominant paradigm in GWAS data analysis so far consists of extensive reliance on methods that emphasize contribution of individual SNPs to statistical association with phenotypes. Multivariate methods, however, can extract more information by considering associations of multiple SNPs simultaneously. Recent advances in other genomics domains pinpoint multivariate causal graph-based inference as a promising principled analysis framework for high-throughput data. Designed to discover biomarkers in the local causal pathway of the phenotype, these methods lead to accurate and highly parsimonious multivariate predictive models. In this paper, we investigate the applicability of causal graph-based method TIE* to analysis of GWAS data. To test the utility of TIE*, we focus on anti-CCP positive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) GWAS datasets, where there is a general consensus in the community about the major genetic determinants of the disease.

Results

Application of TIE* to the North American Rheumatoid Arthritis Cohort (NARAC) GWAS data results in six SNPs, mostly from the MHC locus. Using these SNPs we develop two predictive models that can classify cases and disease-free controls with an accuracy of 0.81 area under the ROC curve, as verified in independent testing data from the same cohort. The predictive performance of these models generalizes reasonably well to Swedish subjects from the closely related but not identical Epidemiological Investigation of Rheumatoid Arthritis (EIRA) cohort with 0.71-0.78 area under the ROC curve. Moreover, the SNPs identified by the TIE* method render many other previously known SNP associations conditionally independent of the phenotype.

Conclusions

Our experiments demonstrate that application of TIE* captures maximum amount of genetic information about RA in the data and recapitulates the major consensus findings about the genetic factors of this disease. In addition, TIE* yields reproducible markers and signatures of RA. This suggests that principled multivariate causal and predictive framework for GWAS analysis empowers the community with a new tool for high-quality and more efficient discovery.

To screen the receptor genes in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) associated with angiogenesis, we performed differential hybridization of the cDNA library of membrane-type protein tyrosine kinases (mPTKs). Three thousand plaques of a mPTKs-enriched cDNA library were screened with mPTKs mixture probes produced from hypervascular RCC tissues and RCC cell lines. Six different cDNA fragments of the PTK genes were isolated, and the sequence analysis showed that these represented cDNAs for TIE1, KDR, FMS, FGFR-4, JAK1 and HCK. Of these genes, the expression of TIE1, KDR, and FGFR-4 was studied in RCC tissue and cell lines by Northern blot analysis. We also investigated the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), placenta growth factor (PlGF) and their receptor FLT-1. In all the hypervascular RCC tissues, the amounts of mRNAs for KDR and FLT-1 were increased compared to adjacent normal tissues. The TIE1 and FGFR-4 genes were also overexpressed in most of the hypervascular RCC tissues, while no mRNA of KDR, FLT-1, or TIE1 could be detected in any of the four human RCC cell lines. The amounts of the VEGF and PlGF mRNAs were increased in hypervascular RCC tissues, while VEGF mRNA was detected in the four cell lines but PlGF mRNA was not. FGFR-4 mRNA was expressed in three of the four cell lines. These results suggest that KDR, FLT-1, PlGF and TIE1 mRNAs are present in the mesenchymal cells of RCC, while VEGF and FGFR-4 genes are expressed in RCC cells themselves in vivo.  相似文献

It is important to understand potential sources of group differences in the heritability of intelligence test scores. On the basis of a basic item response model we argue that heritabilities which are based on dichotomous item scores normally do not generalize from one sample to the next. If groups differ in mean ability, the functioning of items at different ability levels may result in group differences in the heritability of items, even when these items function equivalently across groups and the heritability of the underlying ability is equal across groups. We illustrate this graphically, by computer simulation, and by focusing on several problems associated with a recent study by Rushton et al. who argued that the heritability estimates of items of Raven''s Progressive Matrices test in North-American twin samples generalized to other population groups, and hence that the population group differences on this test of general mental ability (or intelligence) had a substantial genetic component. Our results show that item heritabilities are strongly dependent on the group on which the heritabilities were based. Rushton et al.''s results were artefactual and do not speak to the nature of population group differences in intelligence test performance.  相似文献

The aim of the present article is to determine whether recently shown positive relationships between self-reported emotional intelligence (EI) and morningess preference exist when EI is measured with an ability-based test. In two studies (study 1: N = 206 and study 2: N = 184), we applied two different morningness–eveningness questionnaires and a performance test of EI consisting of four dimensions (perception, understanding, assimilation, managing). The two studies provided similar results indicating that “night owls” have higher EI than “larks”; specifically, evening-oriented subjects showed greater ability in emotion perception and understanding, as compared to morning-oriented individuals. The obtained results were in line with hitherto existing research on chronotype and general intelligence. The results provide further evidence for a cognitive character of ability-based EI and accentuate its different nature when compared to self-reported EI. The main findings are discussed in terms of evolutionary theories of circadian preferences, EI and mental abilities.  相似文献
