To examine the effects of selective timber extraction on fish communities in Sabah, Malaysia, quantitative samples of fishes were taken from thirteen streams running through undisturbed rainforest or through forest that had been selectively logged 3–18 years previously. Multivariate analysis (canonical discriminant analysis and cluster analysis) indicated that mesohabitats within streams (riffles and pools) and differences in stream size were more important in determining community structure than logging history. Riffles in streams running through logged or undisturbed forest were indistinguishable using relative biomass or abundance data, as were pools from small streams (approximate order 2). Fish communities from pools in larger streams showed some separation in multivariate space corresponding to a complex set of relative changes in abundance and/or biomass between species. However it was difficult to unambiguously assign such changes to logging regime alone. There appeared to be some differences in fish communities between streams in recently-logged (3–7 years) and old-logged (17–18 years) areas related to abundance or biomass of three cyprinids (Garra borneensis, Lobocheilos bo and Osteochilus chini). Only one species, Pangio mariarum, was not found in streams in logged forest, but it was only found at one location in undisturbed forest. A number of other species showed significant differences in abundance or biomass between sites but most of these were only present at some sites and in low abundance. Principal components analysis of habitat data showed that riffle sites were homogeneous whatever their logging history as were pools in unlogged large streams. Pools in logged large streams were significantly more heterogeneous but in a random rather than systematic manner. It is concluded that the type of selective logging practices used locally have low impact on fish communities through mechanisms of persistence and/or rapid recolonisation. 相似文献

Tree species diversity of four tropical forest vegetation types was investigated in Xishuangbanna, southwestern China. These are: tropical seasonal rain forest, tropical montane rain forest, evergreen broad-leaved forest and monsoon forest over limestone. A total of 17 samples were taken and four species diversity indices were calculated: Shannon-Wiener's H, the complement of Simpson's index, d, Fisher's and evenness index E. The results reveal the long-tailed rank/abundance diagrams of these forests. However, this feature is greatly reduced in the samples of monsoon forest over limestone. Tropical seasonal rain forest shows the highest tree species diversity of all four vegetation types. Owing to the variation of microenvironment, diversity values within the same vegetation type vary between the samples from different patches. The tree species diversity of single-dominant rain forest is not significantly lower than that of mixed rain forest, because the dominant species of some single-dominant rain forests are principally in the emergent layer. This is composed of sparse and huge trees of one species and, consequently, creates a unique canopy architecture and more heterogeneous microenvironments for the more diversified species composition under the emergent layer. The occurrence of tree species with small population sizes, particularly of species represented by only one individual, is highly correlated with the tree species diversity of the local forest vegetation. The encroachment of tall grass species in open dune vegetation, as observed in the Dutch dry dune area, is considered unfavourable for nature conservation. The effects of grass-encroachment on the vegetation and the availability of light and its relation to nutrients were investigated through a comparative study of grass-dominated and open dune grassland plots at ten locations along the Dutch coast.Grass-dominated plots have a low species diversity and number of species, especially of mosses and lichens. This is associated with a high biomass and a low availability of light at soil surface. In addition, nutrient availability seems to be important. Root biomass and the amounts of both ectorganic and endorganic matter are significantly higher in grass-dominated plots, which may account for the higher nutrient uptake in the vegetation.It is likely that a grass-dominated system can maintain and consolidate itself because of the better competition for light and nutrients. The relevance of these results for restoration management is briefly discussed. 相似文献

Influence of rainfall and grazing on herbage dynamics in a seasonally dry tropical savanna 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Species composition and herbage dynamics in relation to rainfall variability and cattle grazing were studied in permanently protected, grazed, and temporarily fenced treatments on three sites in a seasonally dry tropical savanna. Permanently protected sites, established between 1979 and 1984, were 55–79% similar with each other in species composition, and 14–25% similar with grazed sites during the period 1986–1988. Similarity among grazed sites was only 36–43%. Number of species was greater in the grazed treatment than in the permanently protected treatment. The percentages of annual grasses and non-leguminous forbs were greater in grazed savanna than in permanently protected savanna. Species diversity was higher in grazed savanna than in the corresponding permanently protected savanna. Species the two annual cycles studied, peak live shoot biomass was 614 g m-2 in permanently protected savanna, 109 g m-2 in grazed savanna, and 724 g m-2 in temporarily fenced savanna. Live shoot biomass in temporarily fenced savanna was 18 to 44% greater than in permanently protected savanna. Peak canopy biomass ranged from 342 to 700 g m-2 in permanently protected savanna. It was related with total rainy season rainfall, and was particularly sensitive to late rainy season rainfall. On the other hand, peak canopy biomass in grazed savanna ranged from 59 to 169 g m-2 and was related to grazing intensity rather than either total rainy season rainfall or late rainy season rainfall. Coefficient of variation of green biomass in permanently protected savanna was related with rainfall variability indicating it to be a pulsed system which responds quickly to rainfall events. Biomass of woody species ranged from 2466 to 5298 g m-2 in permanently protected savanna and from 744 to 1433 g m–2 in the grazed savanna. Green foliage biomass was 3.7 to 6.4% of the woody biomass in permanently protected and 5.6 to 5.9% in grazed savanna, and supplements substantially the fodder resource during the dry periods of the year. 相似文献

群落谱系结构包含群落发育的历史信息,能从新的角度反映群落形成的生态过程.作者在浙江古田山自然保护区亚热带常绿阔叶林中选择了人为干扰强度不同的4种群落类型,以20 m×20 m为研究尺度探讨了不同干扰程度对群落谱系结构的影响.结果表明,人工林(类型Ⅰ)谱系结构发散;但间伐林(类型Ⅱ)、自然恢复林(类型Ⅲ)以及自然老龄林(类型Ⅳ)谱系结构聚集,且以类型Ⅱ和Ⅳ聚集度最高.进一步分析不同径级谱系结构发现,在中小径级(DBH≤5 cm和5 cm10 cm时,除了类型Ⅳ,其他3种群落都是谱系结构发散,这反映了在恢复早期种子扩散对这些林型群落构建影响较大:而皆伐后的演替和间伐增加了群落生境异质性,生境过滤作用增强,使类型Ⅱ、Ⅲ群落中小径级谱系结构表现为聚集;类型Ⅳ群落不同径级谱系结构均表现为聚集,可能与其稳定的生境过滤作用有关. 相似文献

We provide the first account of the effects of forest disturbance on species richness of nematodes in tropical forest soils,
from 24 sites along gradients of disturbance and regeneration in the Mbalmayo Forest Reserve, Cameroon. Species richness was
very high. Samples of 200 nematodes from individual soil cores contained a maximum of 89 and an average of 61 species; in
total we recorded 431 species and approximately 194 genera. The model of Siemann et al. (1996), predicting that species richness
scales as the number of individuals I
0.5, underestimates nematode diversity 4–6 fold in these samples. Over 90% of specimens cannot be assigned to known species.
Although nematode species richness declined with forest disturbance, statistically significant effects were detectable only
under the most extreme conditions (active slash-and-burn agriculture and complete mechanical forest clearance) and even here
remained at 40% of the richness of near primary sites. Impacts on trophic structure were also small, and there were no significant
changes in the maturity index (MI) (Bongers 1990) with disturbance (mean MI across all treatments was very high, at 3.58).
In the light of this study, the problems of completing reliable all-taxon inventories in tropical forests are briefly discussed.

We analyzed the differences in species richness, community composition, population structure and within-tree location of epiphytic bromeliads in contiguous secondary and mature forests in a premontane area in Costa Rica. Diversity in the mature forest was highest, and the communities differed in their composition as well as in the recruitment rates of the dominant species. Guzmania monostachia and Catopsis nutans dominated the secondary forests, whereas Tillandsia fasciculata and T. tricolor were more abundant in the mature forest. The secondary forest species showed high rates of seedling recruitment while the opposite was found for the mature forest species. Species presence and abundance among and within habitats did not correlate with their physiological (i.e. CAM vs. C3 photosynthesis) or morphological attributes. The spatial distribution patterns were similar among habitats; bromeliads tended to aggregate on a few relatively large phorophytes. The species shared a similar vertical stratification within habitats, except for the two dominant species in the early and mid-successional stages, although its ecological implication is not clear. With some exceptions, conspecifics of different ages were located on similar substrate types (i.e. stems, primary, secondary, or tertiary branches) within the tree-crowns, which suggests limited within-tree dispersion. Differences in species composition and rates of seedling recruitment among secondary and mature forest may arise from ecophysiological differences among species; however, the combined effect of seed availability and dispersal differences may have a larger influence. Thus, epiphyte community assembly can only be understood when the differences in habitat conditions, the availability of propagules, their dispersal characteristics and requirements for seedling establishment are known. 相似文献

Leaf litter samples of 12 dicotyledonous tree species (belonging to eight families) growing in a dry tropical forest and in early stages of decomposition were studied for the presence of litter fungi. Equal-sized segments of the leaves incubated in moist chambers were observed every day for 30 d for the presence of fungi. Invariably, the fungal assemblage on the litter of each tree species was dominated by a given fungal species. The diversity of fungi present in the litter varied with the tree species although many species of fungi occurred in the litter of all 12 species. A Pestalotiopsis species dominated the litter fungal assemblage of five trees and was common in the litter of all tree species. The present study and earlier studies from our lab indicate that fungi have evolved traits such as thermotolerant spores, ability to utilize toxic furaldehydes, ability to produce cell wall destructuring enzymes and an endophyte-litter fungus life style to survive and establish themselves in fire-prone forests such as the one studied here. This study shows that in the dry tropical forest, the leaf litter fungal assemblage is governed more by the environment than by the plant species. 相似文献

In this data paper, a dataset of passerine bird communities is described in Sierra Nevada, a Mediterranean high mountain located in southern Spain. The dataset includes occurrence data from bird surveys conducted in four representative ecosystem types of Sierra Nevada from 2008 to 2015. For each visit, bird species numbers as well as distance to the transect line were recorded. A total of 27847 occurrence records were compiled with accompanying measurements on distance to the transect and animal counts. All records are of species in the order Passeriformes. Records of 16 different families and 44 genera were collected. Some of the taxa in the dataset are included in the European Red List. This dataset belongs to the Sierra Nevada Global-Change Observatory (OBSNEV), a long-term research project designed to compile socio-ecological information on the major ecosystem types in order to identify the impacts of global change in this area. 相似文献

We document spatial changes in species diversity, composition, community structure, and mortality of trees across a gradient
of water availability in a tropical dry forest in western Mexico. This gradient occurs along the main stream of a small watershed
of less than 1 km in length. Four 30 × 80 m plots were established systematically to include the driest (ridge top of the
watershed) to the wettest sites (watershed bottom) within this watershed. All stems larger than 5 cm were identified, and
measured for diameter and height. Dead stems larger than 5 cm were measured and classified as: a) found on live or dead trees,
and b) standing (“snags”) or lying (“downlogs”) on the ground. The number of recorded species per plot declined from 73 to
44 species as water availability decreased. A decline in estimated total richness, and in Shannon-Wiener and Simpson diversity
indices was also observed in the drier plots. Species composition strongly changed along the gradient, with the two ends of
the gradient sharing only 11% of the species. Stem density and percentage of dead stems and trees increased in abundance and
basal area from the wetter to the drier sites. Tree and stem size (basal area, height and stem diameter) showed the opposite
trend. Nonetheless, total basal area of live trees was largest at the two end gradient locations and oscillated between 12.22
m2 ha−1 and 7.93 m2 ha−1. Proportion of snags increased towards the driest site (from 46 to 72%), while that of down logs decreased. Overall, our
results suggest that small-scale gradients of water availability play a paramount role in the spatial organization of tree
communities in seasonal tropical environments.

We investigated changes in species composition and structure of tree and liana communities along a successional gradient in
a seasonally dry tropical forest. There was a progressive increase in tree richness and all tree structural traits from early
to late stages, as well as marked changes in tree species composition and dominance. This pattern is probably related to pasture
management practices such as ploughing, which remove tree roots and preclude regeneration by resprouting. On the other hand,
liana density decreased from intermediate to late stages, showing a negative correlation with tree density. The higher liana
abundance in intermediate stage is probably due to a balanced availability of support and light availability, since these
variables may show opposite trends during forest growth. Predicted succession models may represent extremes in a continuum
of possible successional pathways strongly influenced by land use history, climate, soil type, and by the outcomes of tree–liana

幕阜山地处中亚热带-北亚热带过渡地带,物种资源丰富.通过对其典型样地的调查,分别采用Shannon-Wiener指数、Simpson指数和Pielou均匀度指数作为测度指标,研究了幕阜山地区森林群落结构及其物种多样性特征.结果表明,该地区主要有21个森林群落类型.其中常绿阔叶林中,物种丰富度指数与多样性指数在群落梯度上的总体趋势均为灌木层相对高于乔木层,乔木层相对高于草本层;在落叶阔叶林中,其丰富度指数的趋势为灌木层>草本层和乔木层,而在草本层与乔木层间是波动的,多样性指数的趋势为灌木层>草本层>乔木层;在针叶林中,物种丰富度、多样性指数表现的总趋势基本一致,即灌木层的丰富度相对较高,其次为草本层,乔木层的相对较小.在其他群落类型中,多样性指数、均匀度指数在乔木层、灌木层和草本层则表现出多样化的趋势;另外,从总体上看,各种指数在海拔梯度上并未表现出明显的规律性. 相似文献

The effect of disturbance on local communities may operate within the context of the spatial landscape. We examined the scale-dependent effects of windthrow disturbance caused by a large typhoon on three arthropod communities in a temperate forest of Japan. Canopy arthropods were collected by beating foliage, forest-floor arthropods were collected by sweeping the vegetation, and flying arthropods were collected in Malaise traps. To assess the “functional spatial scale” at which arthropods responded to tree-fall disturbance, the gap rate was quantified at different spatial scales by sequentially enlarging the radius of a circular landscape sector in 10-m increments from 10 to 500 m. We then analyzed the responses of order richness and abundance to the gap rate for each arthropod community. The spatial scale of the significant best-fitting model, which was selected from the models fitted to the gap rate at stepwise spatial scales, was regarded as the arthropod-specific functional spatial scale. Arthropod order richness was not dependent on the gap rate. In contrast, arthropod order abundance depended significantly on the gap rate in many orders, but varied in the response direction and functional spatial scale. These order-specific, scale-dependent responses to tree-fall gaps could complicate interactions among organisms, leading to complex community organization. An understanding of the spatial processes that link the use of space by organisms with the spatial scale at which ecological processes are experienced is required to elucidate the responses of populations, communities, and biotic interactions to disturbances in a spatial landscape context. 相似文献

Determinants of bird species richness: role of climate and vegetation structure at a regional scale 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We examined the respective roles of climate and vegetation structure on geographical variation in bird species richness. The Province of Buenos Aires (central-eastern Argentina) was divided into 146 squares of 50 km on a side. For each square we evaluated the number of bird species, the value of thirteen climatic variables, and the value of a vegetation strata index. The climatic matrix was analyzed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and the first factors resulting from PCA were considered as multifactorial climatic gradients. Simple and Partial Correlation Analysis among bird species richness, vegetation strata, and the first two factors derived from PCA (65% of total variation) indicated that bird richness distribution was determined by the availability of vegetation strata, associated with different vegetation types that, at the same time, were influenced by the climatic conditions summarized in the first climatic factor (a gradient of precipitation, relative humidity, annual termical amplitude, and frost occurrence). This relationships reflect the complexity of factors that can act directly as well as indirectly on the geographical patterns in species richness. Also, we evaluated the importance of study scale comparing our results with previous studies at macrogeographic and local scales, found out that the vegetation structure was the principal determinant of bird species richness at this three geographical scales. 相似文献

林窗主要指由森林中老龄树死亡或其他偶然因素导致的成熟阶段优势树种死亡,从而造成在林冠层形成空隙的现象。2011年11月—2012年2月,于广西防城金花茶国家级自然保护区,采用定点观察法,就北热带季雨林冬季鸟类对林窗的响应特征及鸟类在林窗和非林窗的分布特征等进行了研究。在林窗记录到鸟类45种,占所有鸟类的84.9%,平均种数为9.6种;在非林窗记录到鸟类39种,占所有鸟类的73.6%,平均种数为5.3种。多元回归表明林窗面积、林窗外10m乔木平均高度、林窗外10m乔木数量、林窗外10m灌木数量、林窗外1m草本平均盖度和裸地比例是林窗影响鸟类多样性的关键因子。总体上,林窗鸟类多样性大于非林窗。另外,林窗对鸟类空间分布影响主要表现在:鸟类的垂直分布以林窗中层和林冠层为主,水平分布以近离和较近离为主,而这种空间分布格局主要是由鸟类取食生态位分化所造成。 相似文献
