We examined the effects of (-)-Hydroxycitrate (HCA) ingestion on fat oxidation during moderate intensity exercise in untrained men. Six subjects ingested 500 mg of HCA or a placebo for 5 days and did endurance exercise. Blood FFA concentrations were significantly increased and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) decreased by HCA ingestion. These results suggested short-term HCA ingestion increases fat oxidation in untrained men. 相似文献

Jeukendrup, A. E., M. Mensink, W. H. M. Saris, and A. J. M. Wagenmakers. Exogenous glucose oxidation during exercise in endurance-trained and untrained subjects. J. Appl.Physiol. 82(3): 835-840, 1997.To investigate theeffect of training status on the fuel mixture used during exercise withglucose ingestion, seven endurance-trained cyclists (Tr; maximumO2 uptake 67 ± 2.3 ml · kg1 · min1)and eight untrained subjects (UTr; 48 ± 2 ml · kg1 · min1)were studied during 120 min of exercise at ~60% maximumO2 uptake. At the onset of exercise, 8 ml · kg1 · min1of an 8% naturally enriched[13C]glucose solutionwas ingested and 2 ml/kg every 15 min thereafter. Energy expenditurewas higher in Tr subjects compared with UTr subjects (3,404 vs. 2,630 kJ; P < 0.01). During the secondhour, fat oxidation was higher in Tr subjects (37 ± 2 g) comparedwith UTr subjects (23 ± 1 g), whereas carbohydrateoxidation was similar (116 ± 8 g in Tr subjects vs. 114 ± 4 g in UTr subjects). No differences were observed in exogenousglucose oxidation (50 ± 2 g in Tr subjects and 45 ± 3 g in UTr subjects, respectively). Peak exogenous glucose oxidationrates were similar in the two groups (0.95 ± 0.07 g/min in Trsubjects and 0.96 ± 0.03 g/min in UTr subjects). It is concluded that the higher energy expenditure in Tr subjects during exercise atthe same relative exercise intensity is entirely met by a higher rateof fat oxidation without changes in the rates of exogenous andendogenous carbohydrates. 相似文献

The effects of carbohydrate and fat intake on exercise-induced fatigue was investigated in 30 untrained--(VO2max of 40.6 +/- 2.7 ml X kg-1 X min-1) and 24 trained-subjects (VO2max of 52.3 +/- 2.7 ml X kg-1 X min-1) performing a 34 km march with a 25 kg backpack. Marching time was 8 1/2 h and 6 1/3 h in the untrained and trained-subjects respectively. The subjects were divided into 3 dietary groups. One group had free access to sugar cubes, the second group was offered almonds and the third one served as a control. Triglyceride levels decreased by 65 mg X dl-1 in untrained, and by 115 mg X dl-1 in trained subjects, while blood glucose remained at normal levels. In the untrained subjects, ingestion of almonds delayed the subjective sensation of exhaustion, while 50% of the controls and the sugar consuming subjects complained of exhaustion. The data suggest that ingestion of food containing fat delays exercise induced exhaustion or fatigue to a greater extent than does carbohydrate ingestion. 相似文献

The kinetics underlying plasma epinephrine concentrations were studied. Six athletes (T) and six sedentary males (C) were given intravenous infusions of 3H-labeled epinephrine, after which arterial blood was drawn. They rested sitting and bicycled continuously to exhaustion (60 min at 125 W, 60 min at 160 W, 40 min at 200 W, and 240 W to the end). Work time was 154 +/- 13 (SE) (T) and 75 +/- 6 (C) min. At rest, epinephrine clearance was identical [28.4 +/- 1.3 (T) vs. 29.2 +/- 1.8 (C) ml . kg-1 . min-1], but plasma concentration [1.42 +/- 0.27 (T) vs. 0.71 +/- 0.16 (C) nmol . l-1] and, accordingly, secretion [2.9 +/- 0.7 vs. 1.5 +/- 0.4 nmol . min-1] were higher (P less than 0.05) in T than C subjects. Epinephrine clearance was closely related to relative work load, decreasing from 15% above the basal level at 30% of maximal O2 uptake (VO2 max) to 22% below at 76% of VO2 max. Epinephrine concentrations increased much more with work intensity than could be accounted for by changes in clearance and were, at exhaustion, higher (P less than 0.05) in T (7.2 +/- 1.6) than in C (2.5 +/- 0.7 nmol . l-1) subjects despite similar glucose, heart rate, and hematocrit values. At a given load, epinephrine clearance rapidly became constant, whereas concentration increased continuously. Forearm extraction of epinephrine invalidated use of blood from a cubital vein or a hand vein arterialized by hot water in turnover measurements. During exercise, changes in epinephrine concentrations reflect changes in secretion rather than in clearance. Training may increase adrenal medullary secretory capacity. 相似文献

These studies investigated the effects of 2 weeks of either a high-fat (HIGH-FAT: 70% fat, 7% CHO) or a high-carbohydrate (HIGH-CHO: 74% CHO, 12% fat) diet on exercise performance in trained cyclists (n = 5) during consecutive periods of cycle exercise including a Wingate test of muscle power, cycle exercise to exhaustion at 85% of peak power output [90% maximal oxygen uptake (
O2max), high-intensity exercise (HIE)] and 50% of peak power output [60%
O2max, moderate intensity exercise (MIE)]. Exercise time to exhaustion during HIE was not significantly different between trials: nor were the rates of muscle glycogen utilization during HIE different between trials, although starting muscle glycogen content was lower [68.1 (SEM 3.9) vs 120.6 (SEM 3.8) mmol · kg –1 wet mass, P < 0.01] after the HIGH-FAT diet. Despite a lower muscle glycogen content at the onset of MIE [32 (SEM 7) vs 73 (SEM 6) mmol · kg –1 wet mass, HIGH-FAT vs HIGH-CHO, P < 0.01], exercise time to exhaustion during subsequent MIE was significantly longer after the HIGH-FAT diet [79.7 (SEM 7.6) vs 42.5 (SEM 6.8) min, HIGH-FAT vs HIGH-CHO, P<0.01]. Enhanced endurance during MIE after the HIGH-FAT diet was associated with a lower respiratory exchange ratio [0.87 (SEM 0.03) vs 0.92 (SEM 0.02), P<0.05], and a decreased rate of carbohydrate oxidation [1.41 (SEM 0.70) vs 2.23 (SEM 0.40) g CHO · min–1, P<0.05]. These results would suggest that 2 weeks of adaptation to a high-fat diet would result in an enhanced resistance to fatigue and a significant sparing of endogenous carbohydrate during low to moderate intensity exercise in a relatively glycogen-depleted state and unimpaired performance during high intensity exercise. 相似文献

There has been recent interest in the potential performance and metabolic effects of carbohydrate ingestion during exercise lasting approximately 1 h. In this study, 13 well-trained men ingested in randomized order either a 6% glucose solution (CHO trial) or a placebo (Con trial) during exercise to exhaustion at 83+/-1% peak oxygen uptake. In six subjects, vastus lateralis muscle was sampled at rest, at 32 min, and at exhaustion, and in six subjects, glucose kinetics was determined by infusion of [6,6-(2)H]glucose in both trials and ingestion of [6-(3)H]glucose in the CHO trial. Of the 84 g of glucose ingested during exercise in the CHO trial, only 22 g appeared in the peripheral circulation. This resulted in a small (12 g) but significant (P<0.05) increase in glucose uptake without influencing carbohydrate oxidation, muscle glycogen use, or time to exhaustion (CHO: 68.1+/-4.1 min; Con: 69.6+/-5.5 min). Decreases in muscle phosphocreatine content and increases in muscle inosine monophosphate and lactate content during exercise were similar in the two trials. Although endogenous glucose production during exercise was partially suppressed in the CHO trial, it remained significantly above preexercise levels throughout exercise. In conclusion, only 26% of the ingested glucose appeared in the peripheral circulation. Glucose ingestion increased glucose uptake and partially reduced endogenous glucose production but had no effect on carbohydrate oxidation, muscle metabolism, or time to exhaustion during exercise at 83% peak oxygen uptake. 相似文献

The aim of the study was to examine whether a moderate exercise increases the utilization of fatty acids during the recovery period in obese men. Six healthy obese participated in a randomized crossover investigation, one with exercise and one without exercise. At 8 a. m., the subjects had a standardized breakfast and they rested in a sitting position for 3 hours. The subjects were maintained in the sitting position for 4 additional hours in one session. In a second session, they exercised for 60 min at 50 % of their VO(2) max and then returned to the sitting position for 3 hours. Respiratory exchange ratio (RER) values were calculated by indirect calorimetry. During the resting session, plasma non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) and glycerol concentrations rose progressively, whereas RER progressively decreased. During the exercise, plasma catecholamines, NEFA, glycerol, growth hormone and cortisol levels and RER increased while insulin decreased. During the recovery, plasma NEFA increased and glycerol decreased. During the first hour of recovery, RER values were lower and fatty acid utilization higher than during the same period of the resting session. The study shows that exercise induces modifications in hormonal factors promoting lipid mobilization and suggests that exercise provide substantial amounts of NEFA for muscle oxidation during recovery from an exercise bout in obese subjects. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that bicycle training may improve the relationship between the global SEMG energy and VO2. We already showed close adjustment of the root mean square (RMS) of the surface electromyogram (SEMG) to the oxygen uptake (VO2) during cycling exercise in untrained subjects. Because in these circumstances an altered neuromuscular transmission which could affect SEMG measurement occurred in untrained individuals only, we searched for differences in the SEMG vs. VO2 relationship between untrained subjects and well-trained cyclists. Each subject first performed an incremental exercise to determine VO2max and the ventilatory threshold, and second a constant-load threshold cycling exercise, continued until exhaustion. SEMG from both vastus lateralis muscles was continuously recorded. RMS was computed. M-Wave was periodically recorded. During incremental exercise: (1) a significant non-linear positive correlation was found between RMS increase and VO2 increase in untrained subjects, whereas the relationship was best fitted by a straight line in trained cyclists; (2) the RMS/VO2 ratio decreased progressively throughout the incremental exercise, its decline being significantly and markedly accentuated in trained cyclists; (3) in untrained subjects, significant M-wave alterations occurred at the end of the trial. These M-wave alterations could explain the non-linear RMS increase in these individuals. During constant-load exercise: (1) after an initial increase, the VO2 ratio decreased progressively to reach a plateau after 2 min of exercise, but no significant inter-group differences were noted; (2) no M-wave changes were measured in the two groups. We concluded that the global SEMG energy recorded from the vastus lateralis muscle is a good estimate of metabolic energy expenditure during incremental cycling exercise only in well-trained cyclists. 相似文献

We investigated the effect of training and racing at moderate altitude (MA) on oxidative stress by assessment of serum diene
conjugation (DC) and serum antioxidant potential (TRAP). Nine male top level skiers were studied during a national race (20–30
km) at sea level (SL). Thereafter, the athletes trained for 2 weeks at MA, after which they participated in a 20–30 km race
at MA. Venous blood samples were taken before and after the race. The DC, indicating early events of lipid peroxi dation,
did not change during the race at SL (16 850 vs 15 900 ΔAbsorbance · l−1) or at MA (19 870 vs. 20 630 ΔAbs · l−1). At MA serum DC was higher than at SL both before (25%) and after (30%) the race, the postrace difference being statistically
significant (P < 0.05). The TRAP increased during the race at MA (from 1387 to 1943 μmol · 1−1, P = 0.016), but not at SL (1713 vs 1582 μmol · l−1). These observations would suggest that the level of oxidative stress might be greater during living, training and racing
at MA (higher DC levels). Increased TRAP during the race at MA may indicate that the physiological adaptation to extreme acute
oxidative stress was altered. The physiological significance of this observation remains to be investigated.

Hickner, R. C., J. S. Fisher, P. A. Hansen, S. B. Racette,C. M. Mier, M. J. Turner, and J. O. Holloszy. Muscle glycogen accumulation after endurance exercise in trained and untrained individuals. J. Appl. Physiol. 83(3):897-903, 1997.Muscle glycogen accumulation was determined in sixtrained cyclists (Trn) and six untrained subjects (UT) at 6 and either48 or 72 h after 2 h of cycling exercise at ~75% peakO2 uptake(O2 peak), which terminated with five 1-min sprints. Subjects ate 10 gcarbohydrate · kg1 · day1for 48-72 h postexercise. Muscle glycogen accumulation averaged 71 ± 9 (SE) mmol/kg (Trn) and 31 ± 9 mmol/kg (UT) during the first 6 h postexercise (P < 0.01) and 79 ± 22 mmol/kg (Trn) and 60 ± 9 mmol/kg (UT) between 6 and 48 or 72 h postexercise (not significant). Muscle glycogenconcentration was 164 ± 21 mmol/kg (Trn) and 99 ± 16 mmol/kg(UT) 48-72 h postexercise (P < 0.05). Muscle GLUT-4 content immediately postexercise was threefoldhigher in Trn than in UT (P < 0.05)and correlated with glycogen accumulation rates (r = 0.66, P < 0.05). Glycogen synthase in theactive I form was 2.5 ± 0.5, 3.3 ± 0.5, and 1.0 ± 0.3 µmol · g1 · min1in Trn at 0, 6, and 48 or 72 h postexercise, respectively;corresponding values were 1.2 ± 0.3, 2.7 ± 0.5, and 1.6 ± 0.3 µmol · g1 · min1in UT (P < 0.05 at 0 h). Plasmainsulin and plasma C-peptide area under the curve were lower in Trnthan in UT over the first 6 h postexercise(P < 0.05). Plasma creatine kinaseconcentrations were 125 ± 25 IU/l (Trn) and 91 ± 9 IU/l (UT)preexercise and 112 ± 14 IU/l (Trn) and 144 ± 22 IU/l(UT; P < 0.05 vs.preexercise) at 48-72 h postexercise (normal: 30-200 IU/l).We conclude that endurance exercise training results in an increasedability to accumulate muscle glycogen after exercise. 相似文献

Eleven laboratory-pretrained subjects (initial VO2max = 54 ml.kg-1.min-1) took part in a study to evaluate the effect of a short endurance training programme [8-12 sessions, 1 h per session, with an intensity varying from 60% to 90% maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max)] on the responses of blood ammonia (b[NH+4]) and lactate (b[la]) concentrations during progressive and constant exercise intensities. After training, during which VO2max did not increase, significant decreases in b[NH+4], b[la] and muscle proton concentration were observed at the end of the 80% VO2max constant exercise intensity, although b[NH+4] and b[la] during progressive exercise were unchanged. On the other hand, no correlations were found between muscle fibre composition and b[NH+4] in any of the exercise procedures. This study demonstrated that a constant exercise intensity was necessary to reveal the effect of training on muscle metabolic changes inducing the decrease in b[NH+4] and b[la]. At a relative power of exercise of 80% VO2max, there was no effect of muscle fibre composition on b[NH+4] accumulation. 相似文献

We hypothesized that a period of endurance training would result in a speeding of muscle phosphocreatine concentration ([PCr]) kinetics over the fundamental phase of the response and a reduction in the amplitude of the [PCr] slow component during high-intensity exercise. Six male subjects (age 26 +/- 5 yr) completed 5 wk of single-legged knee-extension exercise training with the alternate leg serving as a control. Before and after the intervention period, the subjects completed incremental and high-intensity step exercise tests of 6-min duration with both legs separately inside the bore of a whole-body magnetic resonance spectrometer. The time-to-exhaustion during incremental exercise was not changed in the control leg [preintervention group (PRE): 19.4 +/- 2.3 min vs. postintervention group (POST): 19.4 +/- 1.9 min] but was significantly increased in the trained leg (PRE: 19.6 +/- 1.6 min vs. POST: 22.0 +/- 2.2 min; P < 0.05). During step exercise, there were no significant changes in the control leg, but end-exercise pH and [PCr] were higher after vs. before training. The time constant for the [PCr] kinetics over the fundamental exponential region of the response was not significantly altered in either the control leg (PRE: 40 +/- 13 s vs. POST: 43 +/- 10 s) or the trained leg (PRE: 38 +/- 8 s vs. POST: 40 +/- 12 s). However, the amplitude of the [PCr] slow component was significantly reduced in the trained leg (PRE: 15 +/- 7 vs. POST: 7 +/- 7% change in [PCr]; P < 0.05) with there being no change in the control leg (PRE: 13 +/- 8 vs. POST: 12 +/- 10% change in [PCr]). The attenuation of the [PCr] slow component might be mechanistically linked with enhanced exercise tolerance following endurance training. 相似文献

The effects of 8 weeks of bicycle endurance training (5 X /week for 30 min) on maximal oxygen uptake capacity (VO2max) during arm and leg ergometry, and on the ultrastructure of an untrained arm muscle (m. deltoideus), and a trained leg muscle (m. vastus lateralis) were studied. With the training, leg-VO2max for bicycling increased by +13%, while the capillary per fiber ratio and the volume density of mitochondria in m. vastus lateralis increased by +15% and +40%, respectively. In contrast, the untrained m. deltoideus showed an unchanged capillary per fiber ratio and a decreased mitochondrial volume density (-17%). Despite this decrease of mitochondrial volume arm-VO2max increased by +9%. It seems unlikely that the observed discrepancy can be explained by cardiovascular adaptations, since arm cranking did not fully tax the cardiovascular system (arm-VO2max/leg-VO2max: 0.74 and 0.71 before and after training, respectively). Thus neither cardiovascular adaptations nor local structural changes in the untrained muscles could explain the increased arm-VO2max. However, the enhanced capacity for lactate clearance after endurance training could be sufficient to account for the larger VO2max during arm cranking. We propose that an increased net oxidation of lactate might be responsible for the increased arm-VO2max found after bicycle endurance training. 相似文献

Langsetmo, I., G. E. Weigle, M. R. Fedde, H. H. Erickson, T. J. Barstow, and D. C. Poole.O2 kinetics in thehorse during moderate and heavy exercise. J. Appl.Physiol. 83(4): 1235-1241, 1997.The horse is asuperb athlete, achieving a maximalO2 uptake (~160ml · min1 · kg1)approaching twice that of the fittest humans. Although equine O2 uptake(O2) kinetics arereportedly fast, they have not been precisely characterized, nor hastheir exercise intensity dependence been elucidated. To addressthese issues, adult male horses underwent incremental treadmill testingto determine their lactate threshold (Tlac) and peakO2(O2 peak),and kinetic features of their O2 response to"square-wave" work forcings were resolved using exercisetransitions from 3 m/s to abelow-Tlac speed of 7 m/s or anabove-Tlac speed of 12.3 ± 0.7 m/s (i.e., between Tlac and O2 peak) sustainedfor 6 min. O2 andCO2 output were measured using anopen-flow system: pulmonary artery temperature was monitored, and mixedvenous blood was sampled for plasma lactate.O2 kinetics at work levelsbelow Tlac were well fit by atwo-phase exponential model, with a phase2 time constant(1 = 10.0 ± 0.9 s) thatfollowed a time delay (TD1 = 18.9 ± 1.9 s). TD1 was similar tothat found in humans performing leg cycling exercise, but the timeconstant was substantially faster. For speeds aboveTlac,TD1 was unchanged (20.3 ± 1.2 s); however, the phase 2 time constantwas significantly slower (1 = 20.7 ± 3.4 s, P < 0.05) than for exercise belowTlac. Furthermore, in four of fivehorses, a secondary, delayed increase inO2 became evident135.7 ± 28.5 s after the exercise transition. This "slowcomponent" accounted for ~12% (5.8 ± 2.7 l/min) of the netincrease in exercise O2. Weconclude that, at exercise intensities below and aboveTlac, qualitative features ofO2 kinetics in the horseare similar to those in humans. However, at speeds belowTlac the fast component of theresponse is more rapid than that reported for humans, likely reflectingdifferent energetics of O2utilization within equine muscle fibers. 相似文献

We compared the effect of endurance exercise training on gross energy expenditure (GEE) during steady-state exercise in 20 younger men (31.2 +/- 0.6 years) and 20 middle-aged men (49.2 +/- 1.1 years). The subjects trained for eight months. The training program consisted of three 45-min walking and jogging exercise sessions per week at an intensity of approximately 60-85% of the heart rate at peak VO2. We administered bicycle ergometer tests at 0, 4, and 8 months into training. Participants exercised at a power output of 100 W for 10 min using a pedaling frequency of 50 rpm. We determined GEE (kcal/min) by measuring the oxygen consumption and respiratory exchange ratio. We found a significant reduction (p less than 0.05) in GEE (0.7-1.3 kcal/min) following 4 months of endurance training in both age groups, with a further reduction (p less than 0.05) noted in only the middle-aged group at month 8. We found no difference (p greater than 0.05) in GEE between the younger and middle-aged men. We conclude that chronic exercise may modify GEE during a submaximal exercise bout and that this adaptation is similar in magnitude in younger and middle-aged men. 相似文献
