Li[Ni0.9Co0.1]O2 (NC90), Li[Ni0.9Co0.05Mn0.05]O2 (NCM90), and Li[Ni0.9Mn0.1]O2 (NM90) cathodes are synthesized for the development of a Co‐free high‐energy‐density cathode. NM90 maintains better cycling stability than the two Co‐containing cathodes, particularly under harsh cycling conditions (a discharge capacity of 236 mAh g?1 with a capacity retention of 88% when cycled at 4.4 V under 30 °C and 93% retention when cycled at 4.3 V under 60 °C after 100 cycles). The reason for the enhanced stability is mainly the ability of NM90 to absorb the strain associated with the abrupt anisotropic lattice contraction/extraction and to suppress the formation of microcracks, in addition to enhanced chemical stability from the increased presence of stable Mn4+. Although the absence of Co deteriorates the rate capability, this can be overcome as the rate capability of the NM90 approaches that of the NCM90 when cycled at 60 °C. The long‐term cycling stability of NM90 is confirmed in a full cell, demonstrating that it is one of the most promising Co‐free cathodes for high‐energy‐density applications. This study not only provides insight into redefining the role of Mn in a Ni‐rich cathode, it also represents a clear breakthrough in achieving a commercially viable Co‐free Ni‐rich layered cathode.  相似文献

Li and Mn‐rich layered cathodes, despite their high specific capacity, suffer from capacity fading and discharge voltage decay upon cycling. Both specific capacity and discharge voltage of Li and Mn‐rich cathodes are stabilized upon cycling by optimized Al doping. Doping Li and Mn‐rich cathode materials Li1.2Ni0.16Mn0.56Co0.08O2 by Al on the account of manganese (as reflected by their stoichiometry) results in a decrease in their specific capacity but increases pronouncedly their stability upon cycling. Li1.2Ni0.16Mn0.51Al0.05Co0.08O2 exhibits 96% capacity retention as compared to 68% capacity retention for Li1.2Ni0.16Mn0.56Co0.08O2 after 100 cycles. This doping also reduces the decrease in the average discharge voltage upon cycling, which is the longstanding fatal drawback of these Li and Mn‐rich cathode materials. The electrochemical impedance study indicates that doping by Al has a surface stabilization effect on these cathode materials. The structural analysis of cycled electrodes by Raman spectroscopy suggests that Al doping also has a bulk stabilizing effect on the layered LiMO2 phase resulting in the better electrochemical performance of Al doped cathode materials as compared to the undoped counterpart. Results from a prolonged systematic work on these cathode materials are presented and the best results that have ever been obtained are reported.  相似文献

Sodium‐based dual ion full batteries (NDIBs) are reported with soft carbon as anode and graphite as cathode for the first time. The NDIBs operate at high discharge voltage plateau of 3.58 V, with superior discharge capacity of 103 mA h g?1, excellent rate performance, and long‐term cycling stability over 800 cycles with capacity retention of 81.8%. The mechanism of Na+ and PF6? insertion/desertion during the charging/discharging processes is proposed and discussed in detail, with the support of various spectroscopies.  相似文献

Herein, a new P2‐type layered oxide is proposed as an outstanding intercalation cathode material for high energy density sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). On the basis of the stoichiometry of sodium and transition metals, the P2‐type Na0.55[Ni0.1Fe0.1Mn0.8]O2 cathode is synthesized without impurities phase by partially substituting Ni and Fe into the Mn sites. The partial substitution results in a smoothing of the electrochemical charge/discharge profiles and thus greatly improves the battery performance. The P2‐type Na0.55[Ni0.1Fe0.1Mn0.8]O2 cathode delivers an extremely high discharge capacity of 221.5 mAh g?1 with a high average potential of ≈2.9 V (vs Na/Na+) for SIBs. In addition, the fast Na‐ion transport in the P2‐type Na0.55[Ni0.1Fe0.1Mn0.8]O2 cathode structure enables good power capability with an extremely high current density of 2400 mA g?1 (full charge/discharge in 12 min) and long‐term cycling stability with ≈80% capacity retention after 500 cycles at 600 mA g?1. A combination of electrochemical profiles, in operando synchrotron X‐ray diffraction analysis, and first‐principles calculations are used to understand the overall Na storage mechanism of P2‐type Na0.55[Ni0.1Fe0.1Mn0.8]O2.  相似文献

While Ni‐rich cathode materials combined with highly conductive and mechanically sinterable sulfide solid electrolytes are imperative for practical all‐solid‐state Li batteries (ASLBs), they suffer from poor performance. Moreover, the prevailing wisdom regarding the use of Li[Ni,Co,Mn]O2 in conventional liquid electrolyte cells, that is, increased capacity upon increased Ni content, at the expense of degraded cycling stability, has not been applied in ASLBs. In this work, the effect of overlooked but dominant electrochemo‐mechanical on the performance of Ni‐rich cathodes in ASLBs are elucidated by complementary analysis. While conventional Li[Ni0.80Co0.16Al0.04]O2 (NCA80) with randomly oriented grains is prone to severe particle disintegration even at the initial cycle, the radially oriented rod‐shaped grains in full‐concentration gradient Li[Ni0.75Co0.10Mn0.15]O2 (FCG75) accommodate volume changes, maintaining mechanical integrity. This accounts for their different performance in terms of reversible capacity (156 vs 196 mA h g?1), initial Coulombic efficiency (71.2 vs 84.9%), and capacity retention (46.9 vs 79.1% after 200 cycles) at 30 °C. The superior interfacial stability for FCG75/Li6PS5Cl to for NCA80/Li6PS5Cl is also probed. Finally, the reversible operation of FCG75/Li ASLBs is demonstrated. The excellent performance of FCG75 ranks at the highest level in the ASLB field.  相似文献

A series of F‐substituted Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2?xFx (x = 0, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07) cathode materials have been synthesized and characterized by solid‐state 19F and 23Na NMR, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and neutron diffraction. The underlying charge compensation mechanism is systematically unraveled by X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) techniques, revealing partial reduction from Mn4+ to Mn3+ upon F‐substitution. It is revealed that not only Ni but also Mn participates in the redox reaction process, which is confirmed for the first time by EELS techniques, contributing to an increase in discharge specific capacity. The detailed structural transformations are also revealed by operando X‐ray diffraction experiments during the intercalation and deintercalation process of Na+, demonstrating that the biphasic reaction is obviously suppressed in the low voltage region via F‐substitution. Hence, the optimized sample with 0.05 mol f.u.?1 fluorine substitution delivers an ultrahigh specific capacity of 61 mAh g?1 at 10 C after 2000 cycles at 30 °C, an extraordinary cycling stability with a capacity retention of 75.6% after 2000 cycles at 10 C and 55 °C, an outstanding full battery performance with 89.5% capacity retention after 300 cycles at 1 C. This research provides a crucial understanding of the influence of F‐substitution on the crystal structure of the P2‐type materials and opens a new avenue for sodium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Substituting W for Al in the Ni‐rich cathode Li[Ni0.885Co0.10Al0.015]O2 (NCA89) produces Li[Ni0.9Co0.09W0.01]O2 (NCW90) with markedly reduced primary particle size. Particle size refinement considerably improves the cathode's cycling stability such that the NCW90 cathode retains 92% of its initial capacity after 1000 cycles (compared to 63% for NCA89), while the cathode produces a high initial discharge capacity of 231.2 mAh g?1 (at 0.1 C). Thus, the proposed NCW90 can deliver high energy density and a long battery lifetime simultaneously, unlike other Ni‐rich layered oxide cathodes. This unprecedented cycling stability is mainly attributed to a series of interparticular microfractures that absorb the anisotropic lattice strain caused by a deleterious phase transition near the charge end, thereby improving the cathode's resistance to fracture. Microcrack suppression preserves the mechanical integrity of the cathode particles during cycling and protects the particle interior from detrimental electrolyte attack. The proposed NCW90 cathode provides an improved material from which a new series of Ni‐rich layered cathode can be developed for next‐generation electric vehicles.  相似文献

Na‐based batteries have long been regarded as an inexpensive, sustainable candidate for large‐scale stationary energy storage applications. Unfortunately, the market penetration of conventional Na‐NiCl2 batteries is approaching its limit for several reasons, including limited rate capability and high Ni cost. Herein, a Na‐FeCl2 battery operating at 190 °C is reported that allows a capacity output of 116 mAh g?1 at an extremely high current density of 33.3 mA cm?2 (≈0.6C). The superior rate performance is rooted in the intrinsically fast kinetics of the Fe/Fe2+ redox reaction. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that a small amount of Ni additive (10 mol%) effectively mitigates capacity fading of the Fe/NaCl cathode caused by Fe particle pulverization during long‐term cycling. The modified Fe/Ni cathode exhibits excellent cycling stability, maintaining a discharge energy density of over 295 Wh kg?1 for 200 cycles at 10 mA cm?2 (≈C/5).  相似文献

Fiber‐shaped aqueous rechargeable Zn batteries (FARZBs) show flexibility, good reliability, cost‐effectiveness, high energy/power densities, and high safety that have attracted increasing attention as promising energy storage devices for future wearable applications. However, the development of FARZB is limited by its poor cycling life and inferior charge–discharge performance, mainly suffering from zinc dendrite growth and increasing electrode irreversibility. In this work, dendrite‐free fiber‐shaped Zn//Co3O4 rechargeable batteries with a long cycle life tested in water and air, are obtained via tuning the surface binding energy of Zn on the anode using the zincophilic N,O‐functional carbon fiber, as well as engineering the Co3O4 cathode with a nanowire array structure. The fiber‐shaped Zn//Co3O4 full battery demonstrates remarkable long cycle life in water and air with high energy density, impressive flexibility, and excellent waterproof ability (fully immersed and charged/discharged under water for more than 33 h for 3000 cycles with capacity retention of ≈80%). The reversible electrochemical mechanisms of the FARZBs, without obvious zinc dendrite deposits and structural change of Co3O4 nanowires, are confirmed by a series of characterizations. These results demonstrate that the FARZBs are promising power sources for emerging wearable electronics.  相似文献

The Li‐rich layer‐structured oxides are regarded one of the most promising candidates of cathode materials for high energy‐density Li‐ion batteries. However, the uninterrupted migration of the transition metal (TM) ions during cycling and the resultant continuous fading of their discharge potentials bring challenges to the battery design and impede their commercial applications. Various efforts have been taken to suppress the migration of the TM ions such as surface modification and elemental substitution, but no success has been achieved to date. Another strategy hereby is proposed to address these issues, in which the TM migration is promoted and the layered material is transformed to a rocksalt in the first few charge/discharge cycles by specially designing a novel Li‐rich layer‐structured Li1.2Mo0.6Fe0.2O2 on the basis of density functional theory calculations. With such, the continuous falling of the discharge potential is detoured due to enhanced completion of the cation mixing. In‐depth studies such as aberration‐corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy confirm the drastic structural change at the atomic scale, and in situ X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy clarify its charge compensation mechanism. This new strategy provides revelation for the development of the Li‐rich layered oxides with mitigated potential decay and a longer lifespan.  相似文献

A rechargeable battery that uses sulfur at the cathode and a metal (e.g., Li, Na, Mg, or Al) at the anode provides perhaps the most promising path to a solid‐state, rechargeable electrochemical storage device capable of high charge storage capacity. It is understood that solubilization in the electrolyte and loss of sulfur in the form of long‐chain lithium polysulfides (Li2Sx, 2 < x < 8) has hindered development of the most studied of these devices, the rechargeable Li‐S battery. Beginning with density‐functional calculations of the structure and interactions of a generic lithium polysulfide species with nitrile containing molecules, it is shown that it is possible to design nitrile‐rich molecular sorbents that anchor to other components in a sulfur cathode and which exert high‐enough binding affinity to Li2Sx to limit its loss to the electrolyte. It is found that sorbents based on amines and imidazolium chloride present barriers to dissolution of long‐chain Li2Sx and that introduction of as little as 2 wt% of these molecules to a physical sulfur‐carbon blend leads to Li‐S battery cathodes that exhibit stable long‐term cycling behaviors at high and low charge/discharge rates.  相似文献

A Ni‐rich concentration‐gradient Li[Ni0.865Co0.120Al0.015]O2 (NCA) cathode is prepared with a Ni‐rich core to maximize the discharge capacity and a Co‐rich particle surface to provide structural and chemical stability. Compared to the conventional NCA cathode with a uniform composition, the gradient NCA cathode exhibits improved capacity retention and better thermal stability. Even more remarkably, the gradient NCA cathode maintains 90% of its initial capacity after 100 cycles when cycled at 60 °C, whereas the conventional cathode exhibits poor capacity retention and suffers severe structural deterioration. The superior cycling stability of the gradient NCA cathode largely stemmed from the gradient structure combines with the Co‐rich surface, which provides chemical stability against electrolyte attack and reduces the inherent internal strain observed in all Ni‐rich layered cathodes in their charged state, thus providing structural stability against the repeated anisotropic volume changes during cycling. The high discharge capacity of the proposed gradient NCA cathode extends the driving range of electric vehicles and reduces battery costs. Furthermore, its excellent capacity retention guarantees a long battery life. Therefore, gradient NCA cathodes represent one of the best classes of cathode materials for electric vehicle applications that should satisfy the demands of future electric vehicles.  相似文献

Silicon anodes are regarded as one of the most promising alternatives to graphite for high energy‐density lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs), but their practical applications have been hindered by high volume change, limited cycle life, and safety concerns. In this work, nonflammable localized high‐concentration electrolytes (LHCEs) are developed for Si‐based anodes. The LHCEs enable the Si anodes with significantly enhanced electrochemical performances comparing to conventional carbonate electrolytes with a high content of fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC). The LHCE with only 1.2 wt% FEC can further improve the long‐term cycling stability of Si‐based anodes. When coupled with a LiNi0.3Mn0.3Co0.3O2 cathode, the full cells using this nonflammable LHCE can maintain >90% capacity after 600 cycles at C/2 rate, demonstrating excellent rate capability and cycling stability at elevated temperatures and high loadings. This work casts new insights in electrolyte development from the perspective of in situ Si/electrolyte interphase protection for high energy‐density LIBs with Si anodes.  相似文献

Li‐rich layered metal oxides have attracted much attention for their high energy density but still endure severe capacity fading and voltage decay during cycling, especially at elevated temperature. Here, facile surface treatment of Li1.17Ni0.17Co0.17Mn0.5O2 (0.4Li2MnO3·0.6LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2) spherical cathode material is designed to address these drawbacks by hybrid surface protection layers composed of Mg2+ pillar and Li‐Mg‐PO4 layer. As a result, the surface coated Li‐rich cathode material exhibits much enhanced cycling stability at 60 °C, maintaining 72.6% capacity retention (180 mAh g?1) between 3.0 and 4.7 V after 250 cycles. More importantly, 88.7% average discharge voltage retention can be obtained after the rigorous cycle test. The strategy developed here with novel hydrid surface protection effect can provide a vital approach to inhibit the undesired side reactions and structural deterioration of Li‐rich cathode materials and may also be useful for other layered oxides to increase their cycling stability at elevated temperature.  相似文献

As one of the most promising cathode candidates for room‐temperature sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs), P2‐type layered oxides face the challenge of simultaneously realizing high‐rate performance while achieving long cycle life. Here, a stable Na2/3Ni1/6Mn2/3Cu1/9Mg1/18O2 cathode material is proposed that consists of multiple‐layer oriented stacking nanoflakes, in which the nickel sites are partially substituted by copper and magnesium, a characteristic of the material that is confirmed by multiscale scanning transmission electron microscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy techniques. Owing to the optimal morphology structure modulation and chemical element substitution strategy, the electrode displays remarkable rate performance (73% capacity retention at 30C compared to 0.5C) and outstanding cycling stability in Na half‐cell system couple with unprecedented full battery performance. The underlying thermal stability, phase stability, and Na+ storage mechanisms are clearly elucidated through the systematical characterizations of electrochemical behaviors, in situ X‐ray diffraction at different temperatures, and operando X‐ray diffraction upon Na+ deintercalation/intercalation. Surprisingly, a quasi‐solid‐solution reaction is switched to an absolute solid‐solution reaction and a capacitive Na+ storage mechanism is demonstrated via quantitative electrochemical kinetics calculation during charge/discharge process. Such a simple and effective strategy might reveal a new avenue into the rational design of excellent rate capability and long cycle stability cathode materials for practical SIBs.  相似文献

A series of non‐aqueous electrolytes were prepared by dissolving lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide (LiTFSA) in triglyme and tetraglyme (Gx, x = 3 and 4), respectively, with varied molar ratios. With the electrolytes the cycling performance of Li‐O2 batteries showed a strong dependence on the molar ratios between LiTFSA and Gx. It was found that the molar ratio of 1 to 5 was critical for the cycling‐performance of Li‐O2 batteries. High stability over 20 discharge–recharge cycles at 500 mA/gcarbon and in an O2 flow was obtained in LiTFSA‐(Gx)5 (x = 3 and 4). The discharge product at cathode could be directly detected and identified as the dominant crystalline product Li2O2 on the 1st and 20th discharged electrodes using X‐ray diffraction technique (XRD), which indicates rechargeability and feasibility of the electrolytes LiTFSA‐(Gx)5 (x = 3 and 4) for Li‐O2 batteries. At 1000 mA/gcarbon their capacities could be stabilized for 10 cycles. To our knowledge, this behavior of dependence of cycling performance of Li‐O2 batteries on the concentration of Li salts is presented here for the first time, and it may be extended to other Li salts and solvents and suggest a new route for screening cycling‐stable electrolytes for Li‐O2 batteries.  相似文献

Rechargeable aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (ZIBs) have been emerging as potential large‐scale energy storage devices due to their high energy density, low cost, high safety, and environmental friendliness. However, the commonly used cathode materials in ZIBs exhibit poor electrochemical performance, such as significant capacity fading during long‐term cycling and poor performance at high current rates, which significantly hinder the further development of ZIBs. Herein, a new and highly reversible Mn‐based cathode material with porous framework and N‐doping (MnOx@N‐C) is prepared through a metal–organic framework template strategy. Benefiting from the unique porous structure, conductive carbon network, and the synergetic effect of Zn2+ and Mn2+ in electrolyte, the MnOx@N‐C shows excellent cycling stability, good rate performance, and high reversibility for aqueous ZIBs. Specifically, it exhibits high capacity of 305 mAh g?1 after 600 cycles at 500 mA g?1 and maintains achievable capacity of 100 mAh g?1 at a quite high rate of 2000 mA g?1 with long‐term cycling of up to 1600 cycles, which are superior to most reported ZIB cathode materials. Furthermore, insight into the Zn‐storage mechanism in MnOx@N‐C is systematically studied and discussed via multiple analytical methods. This study opens new opportunities for designing low‐cost and high‐performance rechargeable aqueous ZIBs.  相似文献

Layered lithium nickel oxide (LiNiO2) can provide very high energy density among intercalation cathode materials for lithium‐ion batteries, but suffers from poor cycle life and thermal‐abuse tolerance with large lithium utilization. In addition to stabilization of the active cathode material, a concurrent development of electrolyte systems of better compatibility is critical to overcome these limitations for practical applications. Here, with nonaqueous electrolytes based on exclusively aprotic acyclic carbonates free of ethylene carbonate (EC), superior electrochemical and thermal characteristics are obtained with an ultrahigh‐nickel cathode (LiNi0.94Co0.06O2), capable of reaching a 235 mA h g?1 specific capacity. Pouch‐type graphite|LiNi0.94Co0.06O2 cells in EC‐free electrolytes withstand several hundred charge–discharge cycles with minor degradation at both ambient and elevated temperatures. In thermal‐abuse tests, the cathode at full charge, while reacting aggressively with EC‐based electrolytes below 200 °C, shows suppressed self‐heating without EC. Through 3D chemical and structural analyses, the intriguing impact of EC is visualized in aggravating unwanted surface parasitic reactions and irreversible bulk structural degradation of the cathode at high voltages. These results provide important insights in designing high‐energy electrodes for long‐lasting and reliable lithium‐ion batteries.  相似文献

The traditional Zn/MnO2 battery has attracted great interest due to its low cost, high safety, high output voltage, and environmental friendliness. However, it remains a big challenge to achieve long‐term stability, mainly owing to the poor reversibility of the cathode reaction. Different from previous studies where the cathode redox reaction of MnO2/MnOOH is in solid state with limited reversibility, here a new aqueous rechargeable Zn/MnO2 flow battery is constructed with dissolution–precipitation reactions in both cathodes (Mn2+/MnO2) and anodes (Zn2+/Zn), which allow mixing of anolyte and catholyte into only one electrolyte and remove the requirement for an ion selective membrane for cost reduction. Impressively, this new battery exhibits a high discharge voltage of ≈1.78 V, good rate capability (10C discharge), and excellent cycling stability (1000 cycles without decay) at the areal capacity ranging from 0.5 to 2 mAh cm‐2. More importantly, this battery can be readily enlarged to a bench scale flow cell of 1.2 Ah with good capacity retention of 89.7% at the 500th cycle, displaying great potential for large‐scale energy storage.  相似文献

Narrow electrochemical stability window (1.23 V) of aqueous electrolytes is always considered the key obstacle preventing aqueous sodium‐ion chemistry of practical energy density and cycle life. The sodium‐ion water‐in‐salt electrolyte (NaWiSE) eliminates this barrier by offering a 2.5 V window through suppressing hydrogen evolution on anode with the formation of a Na+‐conducting solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) and reducing the overall electrochemical activity of water on cathode. A full aqueous Na‐ion battery constructed on Na0.66[Mn0.66Ti0.34]O2 as cathode and NaTi2(PO4)3 as anode exhibits superior performance at both low and high rates, as exemplified by extraordinarily high Coulombic efficiency (>99.2%) at a low rate (0.2 C) for >350 cycles, and excellent cycling stability with negligible capacity losses (0.006% per cycle) at a high rate (1 C) for >1200 cycles. Molecular modeling reveals some key differences between Li‐ion and Na‐ion WiSE, and identifies a more pronounced ion aggregation with frequent contacts between the sodium cation and fluorine of anion in the latter as one main factor responsible for the formation of a dense SEI at lower salt concentration than its Li cousin.  相似文献
