Solution‐processed zinc oxide nanocrystals (ZnO NCs) hybridized with insulating poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) are introduced as a cathode interlayer in bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic cells based on poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT):(6,6)‐phenyl‐C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) blends. The performance of devices with ZnO‐PEG interlayers exhibit an excellent maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 4.4% with a fill factor (FF) of 0.69 under optimized conditions. This enhanced device performance is attributed to decreased series resistance from the hole blocking properties of ZnO, as well as the facilitated electron transport due to the reduced area of ZnO domain boundaries upon addition of PEG. The addition of PEG also lowers the electron affinity of ZnO, which leads to a nearly Ohmic contact at the polymer/metal interface. Moreover, the ZnO‐PEG interlayer serves as an optical spacer that enhances light absorption and thereby increases the photocurrent. The addition of PEG permits control over layer thickness and refractive indices. Improved photon energy absorption is supported by optical simulations. Devices with highly stable metals such as Ag and Au also show dramatically enhanced performance comparable to conventional devices with Al cathode. Due to its simplicity and excellent characteristics, this multifunctional interlayer is suitable for high performance printed photovoltaic cells.  相似文献

While colloidal quantum dot photovoltaic devices (CQDPVs) can achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of ≈12%, their insufficient optical absorption in the near‐infrared (NIR) regime impairs efficient utilization of the full spectrum of visible light. Here, high‐efficiency, solution‐processed, hybrid series, tandem photovoltaic devices are developed featuring CQDs and organic bulk heterojunction (BHJ) photoactive materials for front‐ and back‐cells, respectively. The organic BHJ back‐cell efficiently harvests the transmitted NIR photons from the CQD front‐cell, which reinforces the photon‐to‐current conversion at 350–1000 nm wavelengths. Optimizing the short‐circuit current density balance of each sub‐cell and creating a near ideal series connection using an intermediate layer achieve a PCE (12.82%) that is superior to that of each single‐junction device (11.17% and 11.02% for the CQD and organic BHJ device, respectively). Notably, the PCE of the hybrid tandem device is the highest among the reported CQDPVs, including single‐junction devices and tandem devices. The hybrid tandem device also exhibits almost negligible degradation after air storage for 3 months. This study suggests a potential route to improve the performance of CQDPVs by proper hybridization with NIR‐absorbing photoactive materials.  相似文献

Solution‐processed colloidal quantum dot (CQD) solar cells harvesting the infrared part of the solar spectrum are especially interesting for future use in semitransparent windows or multilayer solar cells. To improve the device power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of the solar cells, surface passivation of the quantum dots is vital in the research of CQD solar cells. Herein, inorganic CsPbI3 perovskite (CsPbI3‐P) coating on PbS CQDs with a low‐temperature, solution‐processed approach is reported. The PbS CQD solar cell with CsPbI3‐P coating gives a high PCE of 10.5% and exhibits remarkable stability both under long‐term constant illumination and storage under ambient conditions. Detailed characterization and analysis reveal improved passivation of the PbS CQDs with the CsPbI3‐P coating, and the results suggest that the lattice coherence between CsPbI3‐P and PbS results in epitaxial induced growth of the CsPbI3‐P coating. The improved passivation significantly diminishes the sub‐bandgap trap‐state assisted recombination, leading to improved charge collection and therefore higher photovoltaic performance. This work therefore provides important insight to improve the CQD passivation by coating with an inorganic perovskite ligand for photovoltaics or other optoelectronic applications.  相似文献

For the first time, the plasmonic gold bipyramids (Au BPs) are introduced to the PbS colloidal quantum dot (CQD) solar cells for improved infrared light harvesting. The localized surface plasmon resonance peaks of Au BPs matches perfectly with the absorption peaks of conventional PbS CQDs. Owing to the geometrical novelty of Au BPs, they exhibit significantly stronger far‐field scattering effect and near‐field enhancement than conventional plasmonic Au nanospheres (NSs). Consequently, device open‐circuit voltage (Voc) and short‐circuit current (Jsc) are simultaneously enhanced, while plasmonic photovoltaic devices based on Au NSs only achieve improved Jsc. The different effects and working mechanisms of these two Au nanoparticles are systematically investigated. Moreover, to realize effective broadband light harvesting, Au BPs and Au NSs are used together to simultaneously enhance the device optical and electrical properties. As a result, a significantly increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.58% is obtained compared to the PCE of 8.09% for the control devices due to the synergistic effect of the two plasmonic Au nanoparticles. Thus, this work reveals the intriguing plasmonic effect of Au BPs in CQD solar cells and may provide insight into the future plasmonic enhancement for solution‐processed new‐generation solar cells.  相似文献

Cascade heterojunction (CHJ) organic solar cells have recently emerged as an alternative to conventional bulk heterojunctions and series‐connected tandems due to their significant promise for high internal quantum efficiency (IQE) and broad spectral coverage. However, CHJ devices thus far have also exhibited poor fill factor (FF), resulting in minimal enhancements (or even decreases) in power conversion efficiency (PCE) when compared with single heterojunction (SHJ) cells. In this study, the major variables controlling the CHJ maximum power point and FF are determined using a combinatorial approach. By matching the maximum power point voltage (VMPP) of the constituent parallel‐connected heterojunctions (subjunctions) and minimizing the injection barriers intrinsic to CHJs, high FF and PCE can be achieved. Optimized CHJ devices are demonstrated with >99% IQE in the interlayer and a 46% increase in PCE compared to a SHJ reference (4.1% versus 2.8%). Devices with a transparent exciton dissociation layer (EDL)/interlayer/acceptor structure are employed, such that each CHJ has absorption efficiency identical to its interlayer/acceptor SHJ counterpart. Using these results, a clear map of performance as a function of material parameters is developed, providing straightforward, universal design rules to guide future engineering of molecules and layer architectures for CHJ organic photovoltaic devices.  相似文献

Enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) is reported in inverted polymer solar cells when an electron‐rich polymer nanolayer (poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI)) is placed on the surface of an electron‐collecting buffer layer (ZnO). The active layer is made with bulk heterojunction films of poly[[4,8‐bis[(2‐ethylhexyl)oxy]benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐2,6‐diyl][3‐fluoro‐2‐[(2‐ethylhexyl)carbonyl]thieno[3,4‐b]thiophenediyl]] (PTB7) and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM). The thickness of the PEI nanolayer is controlled to be 2 nm to minimize its insulating effect, which is confirmed by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and optical absorption measurements. The Kelvin probe and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy measurements demonstrate that the enhanced PCE by introducing the PEI nanolayer is attributed to the lowered conduction band energy of the ZnO layer via the formation of an interfacial dipole layer at the interfaces between the ZnO layer and the PEI nanolayer. The PEI nanolayer also improves the surface roughness of the ZnO layer so that the device series resistance can be noticeably decreased. As a result, all solar cell parameters including short circuit current density, open circuit voltage, fill factor, and shunt resistance are improved, leading to the PCE increase up to ≈8.9%, which is close to the best PCE reported using conjugated polymer electrolyte films.  相似文献

Currently, one main challenge in organic solar cells (OSCs) is to achieve both good stability and high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). Here, highly efficient and long‐term stable inverted OSCs are fabricated by combining controllable ZnMgO (ZMO) cathode interfacial materials with a polymer:fullerene bulk‐heterojunction. The resulting devices based on the nanocolloid/nanoridge ZMO electron‐transporting layers (ETLs) show greatly enhanced performance compared to that of the conventional devices or control devices without ZMO or with ZnO ETLs. The ZMO‐based OSCs maintain 84%–93% of their original PCEs over 1‐year storage under ambient conditions. An initial PCE of 9.39% is achieved for the best device, and it still retains a high PCE of 8.06% after 1‐year storage, which represents a record high value for long‐term stable OSCs. The excellent performance is attributed to the enhanced electron transportation/collection, reduced interfacial energy losses, and improved stability of the nanocolloid ZMO ETL. These findings provide a promising way to develop OSCs with high efficiencies and long device lifetime towards practical applications.  相似文献

In the past few decades, some novel low‐cost nanostructured devices have been explored for converting solar energy into electrical or chemical energy, such as organic photovoltaic cells, photoelectrochemical solar cells, and solar water splitting cells. Generally, higher light absorption and/or charge separation efficiency are considered as the main reasons for improved performance in a nanostructured device versus a planar structure. However, quantitative analysis and definite experimental evidence remain elusive. Here, using BiVO4 as an example, comparable samples with porous and dense structures have been prepared by a simple method. The porous and dense films are assembled into a solid‐electrolyte bulk and planar heterojunction, respectively. Some quantitative results are obtained by decoupling photon absorption, interfacial charge transfer, and charge separation processes. These results suggest that higher charge separation efficiency is mainly responsible for enhanced performance in a solid‐electrolyte bulk heterojunction. Moreover, we also present visualized evidence to show higher charge separation efficiency comes from a shorter photo‐generated hole diffusion distance in a bulk heterojunction. These results can deepen understanding charge transfer in a bulk heterojunction and offer guidance to design a more efficient low‐cost device for solar conversion and storage.  相似文献

High‐efficiency solid‐state‐ligand‐exchange (SSE) step‐free colloidal quantum dot photovoltaic (CQDPV) devices are developed by employing CQD ink based active layers and organic (Polythieno[3,4‐b]‐thiophene‐co‐benzodithiophene (PTB7) and poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT)) based hole transport layers (HTLs). The device using PTB7 as an HTL exhibits superior performance to that using the current leading organic HTL, P3HT, because of favorable energy levels, higher hole mobility, and facilitated interfacial charge transfer. The PTB7 based device achieves power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.60%, which is the highest among reported CQDPVs using organic HTLs. This result is also comparable to the PCE of an optimized device based on a thiol‐exchanged p‐type CQD, the current‐state‐of‐the‐art HTL. From the viewpoint of device processing, the fabrication of CQDPVs is achieved by direct single‐coating of CQD active layers and organic HTLs at low temperature without SSE steps. The experimental results and device simulation results in this work suggest that further engineering of organic HTL materials can open new doors to improve the performance and processing of CQDPVs.  相似文献

This study reports the fabrication of stable, high‐performance, simple structured tandem solar cells based on PbS colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) under ambient air. This study also reveals detailed device engineering to deposit each functional layer in the subcells at low temperature to avoid damage to the PbS CQDs and meanwhile makes the fabrication process compatible to flexible plastic substrate. Two efficient recombination layers (RLs) are rationally designed to connect the two subcells in series. The use of solution‐processed RL with an organic PEDOT:PSS (poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulfonate) interlayer leads to the fabrication of the tandem devices in solution process. The use of robust inorganic RL containing an ultrathin Au interlayer results in more efficient device performance and remarkably improved device lifetime. The optimal PbS CQDs tandem cells based on inorganic RL demonstrate a high power conversion efficiency approaching 9%. This efficiency is more than two times higher than the previous record of 4.2%, which has been kept for more than five years. The remarkable stability, high performance, and low‐temperature processing of these tandem devices may provide insight into the commercialization of flexible and large‐area CQDs tandem solar cells in the near future.  相似文献

Atomistic simulations and experimental investigations are combined to study heterojunction interfaces of hybrid polymer solar cells, with the aim to better understand and precisely predict their photovoltaic properties. The focus is on a hybrid ternary model system based on a poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT)/zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc)/ZnO interface, in which a ZnPc interlayer is applied to improve the performance of the hybrid interface. Theoretical predictions of the ternary system are validated against the properties of a concrete P3HT/ZnPc/ZnO planar heterojunction device. The theoretical predictions closely agree with the photovoltaic properties obtained in P3HT/ZnPc/ZnO solar cells, indicating the strength of the method for modeling hybrid heterojunction interfaces. The theoretical and experimental results reveal that: i) ZnPc molecules in direct contact with a ZnO surface insert new energy levels due to a strong ZnPc/ZnO coupling, ii) electron injection from these new energy levels of ZnPc into ZnO is highly efficient, iii) the ZnPc/ZnO coupling strongly influences the energy levels of the ZnO and P3HT leading to a reduction of the open circuit voltage, and iv) charge carrier recombination at the P3HT/ZnO interface is reduced by the ZnPc interlayer. The intercalation of ZnPc leads to an increase in photocurrent as well as to an overall increase in power conversion.  相似文献

An original set of experimental and modeling tools is used to quantify the yield of each of the physical processes leading to photocurrent generation in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells, enabling evaluation of materials and processing condition beyond the trivial comparison of device performances. Transient absorption spectroscopy, “the” technique to monitor all intermediate states over the entire relevant timescale, is combined with time‐delayed collection field experiments, transfer matrix simulations, spectral deconvolution, and parametrization of the charge carrier recombination by a two‐pool model, allowing quantification of densities of excitons and charges and extrapolation of their kinetics to device‐relevant conditions. Photon absorption, charge transfer, charge separation, and charge extraction are all quantified for two recently developed wide‐bandgap donor polymers: poly(4,8‐bis((2‐ethylhexyl)oxy)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐3,4‐difluorothiophene) (PBDT[2F]T) and its nonfluorinated counterpart poly(4,8‐bis((2‐ethylhexyl)oxy)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐3,4‐thiophene) (PBDT[2H]T) combined with PC71BM in bulk heterojunctions. The product of these yields is shown to agree well with the devices' external quantum efficiency. This methodology elucidates in the specific case studied here the origin of improved photocurrents obtained when using PBDT[2F]T instead of PBDT[2H]T as well as upon using solvent additives. Furthermore, a higher charge transfer (CT)‐state energy is shown to lead to significantly lower energy losses (resulting in higher VOC) during charge generation compared to P3HT:PCBM.  相似文献

An encapsulation system comprising of a UV‐curable epoxy, a solution processed polymer interlayer, and a glass cover‐slip, is used to increase the stability of methylammonium lead triiodide (CH3NH3PbI3) perovskite planar inverted architecture photovoltaic (PV) devices. It is found this encapsulation system acts as an efficient barrier to extrinsic degradation processes (ingress of moisture and oxygen), and that the polymer acts as a barrier that protects the PV device from the epoxy before it is fully cured. This results in devices that maintain 80% of their initial power conversion efficiency after 1000 h of AM1.5 irradiation. Such devices are used as a benchmark and are compared with devices having initially enhanced efficiency as a result of a solvent annealing process. It is found that such solvent‐annealed devices undergo enhanced burn‐in and have a reduced long‐term efficiency, a result demonstrating that initially enhanced device efficiency does not necessarily result in long‐term stability.  相似文献

A universal strategy for efficient light trapping through the incorporation of gold nanorods on the electron transport layer (rear) of organic photovoltaic devices is demonstrated. Utilizing the photons that are transmitted through the active layer of a bulk heterojunction photovoltaic device and would otherwise be lost, a significant enhancement in power conversion efficiency (PCE) of poly[N‐9′‐heptadecanyl‐2,7‐carbazole‐alt‐5,5‐(4′,7′‐di‐2‐thienyl‐2′,1′,3′‐benzothiadiazole)]:phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCDTBT:PC71BM) and poly[[4,8‐bis[(2‐ethylhexyl)oxy]benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐2,6‐diyl][3‐fluoro‐2‐[(2‐ethylhexyl)carbonyl]thieno[3,4‐b] thiophenediyl]] (PTB7):PC71BM by ≈13% and ≈8%, respectively. PCEs over 8% are reported for devices based on the PTB7:PC71BM blend. A comprehensive optical and electrical characterization of our devices to clarify the influence of gold nanorods on exciton generation, dissociation, charge recombination, and transport inside the thin film devices is performed. By correlating the experimental data with detailed numerical simulations, the near‐field and far‐field scattering effects are separated of gold nanorods (Au NRs), and confidently attribute part of the performance enhancement to the enhanced absorption caused by backscattering. While, a secondary contribution from the Au NRs that partially protrude inside the active layer and exhibit strong near‐fields due to localized surface plasmon resonance effects is also observed but is minor in magnitude. Furthermore, another important contribution to the enhanced performance is electrical in nature and comes from the increased charge collection probability.  相似文献

Organic solar cells based on two benzodithiophene‐based polymers (PTB7 and PTB7‐Th) processed at square centimeter‐size under inert atmosphere and ambient air, respectively, are investigated. It is demonstrated that the performance of solar cells processed under inert atmosphere is not limited by the upscaling of photoactive layer and the interfacial layers. Thorough morphological and electrical characterizations of optimized layers and corresponding devices reveal that performance losses due to area enlargement are only caused by the sheet resistance of the transparent electrode reducing the efficiency from 9.3% of 7.8% for PTB7‐Th in the condition that both photoactive layer and the interfacial layers are of high layer quality. Air processing of photoactive layer and the interfacial layers into centimeter‐sized solar cells lead to additional, but only slight, losses (<10%) in all photovoltaic parameters, which can be addressed to changes in the electronic properties of both active layer and ZnO layers rather than changes in layer morphology. The demonstrated compatibility of polymer solar cells using solution‐processed photoactive layer and interfacial layers with large area indicates that the introduction of a standard active area of 1 cm² for measuring efficiency of organic record solar cells is feasible. However electric standards for indium tin oxides (ITO) or alternative transparent electrodes need to be developed so that performance of new photovoltaic materials can be compared at square centimeter‐size.  相似文献

The surface defects of solution‐processed ZnO films lead to various intragap states. When the solution‐processed ZnO films are used as electron transport interlayers (ETLs) in inverted organic solar cells, the intragap states act as interfacial recombination centers for photogenerated charges and thereby degrade the device performance. Here, a simple passivation method based on ethanedithiol (EDT) treatment is demonstrated, which effectively removes the surface defects of the ZnO nanocrystal films by forming zinc ethanedithiolates. The passivation by EDT treatment modulates the intragap states of the ZnO films and introduces a new intragap band. When the EDT‐treated ZnO nanocrystal films are used as ETLs in inverted organic solar cells, both the power conversion efficiency and stability of the devices are improved. The control studies show that the solar cells with EDT‐treated ZnO films exhibit reduced charge recombination rates and enhanced charge extraction properties. These features are consistent with the fact that the modulation of the intragap states results in reduction of interfacial recombination as well as the improved charge selectivity and electron transport properties of the ETLs. It is further demonstrated that the EDT treatment‐based passivation method can be extended to ZnO films deposited from sol–gel precursors.  相似文献

Environmental friendly aqueous‐processed solar cells have become one of the most promising candidates for the next‐generation photovoltaic devices. Researchers have made lots of progress in designing active materials with novel structures, manipulating the defects in active materials, optimizing device architecture, etc. However, it has long been a challenge to control the width of the depletion region and enhance carrier extraction ability. Fabrication of a thick bulk heterojunction (BHJ) film is an effective strategy to address these issues but difficult to realize. Herein, the thicker BHJ film of ZnO:CdTe is successfully fabricated and incorporated into CdTe‐poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) hybrid solar cells. As expected, this BHJ film enhances light absorption, extends the width of the depletion region, prolongs carrier lifetime, and promotes carrier extraction ability. Moreover, the electron transport layer of sol–gel ZnO with excellent transmittance and electrical conductivity boosts electron generation, transport, and injection, which further improves the device performance. As a result, the highest short current density (Jsc) of 19.5 mA cm?2, power conversion efficiency of 6.51%, and the widest depletion region (177 nm) are obtained in aqueous‐processed hybrid solar cells.  相似文献

The high thermal stability and facile synthesis of CsPbI2Br all‐inorganic perovskite solar cells (AI‐PSCs) have attracted tremendous attention. As far as electron‐transporting layers (ETLs) are concerned, low temperature processing and reduced interfacial recombination centers through tunable energy levels determine the feasibility of the perovskite devices. Although the TiO2 is the most popular ETL used in PSCs, its processing temperature and moderate electron mobility hamper the performance and feasibility. Herein, the highly stable, low‐temperature processed MgZnO nanocrystal‐based ETLs for dynamic hot‐air processed Mn2+ incorporated CsPbI2Br AI‐PSCs are reported. By holding its regular planar “n–i–p” type device architecture, the MgZnO ETL and poly(3‐hexylthiophene‐2,5‐diyl) hole transporting layer, 15.52% power conversion efficiency (PCE) is demonstrated. The thermal‐stability analysis reveals that the conventional ZnO ETL‐based AI‐PSCs show a serious instability and poor efficiency than the Mg2+ modified MgZnO ETLs. The photovoltaic and stability analysis of this improved photovoltaic performance is attributed to the suitable wide‐bandgap, low ETL/perovskite interface recombination, and interface stability by Mg2+ doping. Interestingly, the thermal stability analysis of the unencapsulated AI‐PSCs maintains >95% of initial PCE more than 400 h at 85 °C for MgZnO ETL, revealing the suitability against thermal degradation than conventional ZnO ETL.  相似文献

Aqueous‐solution‐processed solar cells (ASCs) are promising candidates of the next‐generation large‐area, low‐cost, and flexible photovoltaic conversion equipment because of their unique environmental friendly property. Aqueous‐solution‐processed polymer/nanocrystals (NCs) hybrid solar cells (AHSCs) can effectively integrate the advantages of the polymer (e.g., flexibility and lightweight) and the inorganic NCs (e.g., high mobility and broad absorption), and therefore be considered as an ideal system to further improve the performance of ASCs. In this work, double‐side bulk heterojunction (BHJ), in which one BHJ combines the active material with electron transport material and the other combines the active material with hole transport material, is developed in the AHSCs. Through comparing with the single‐side BHJ device, promoted carrier extraction, enhanced internal quantum efficiency, extended width of the depletion region, and prolonged carrier lifetime are achieved in double‐side BHJ devices. As a result, power conversion efficiency exceeding 6% is obtained, which breaks the bottleneck efficiency around ≈5.5%. This work demonstrates a device architecture which is more remarkable compared with the traditional only donor–acceptor blended BHJ. Under conservative estimation, it provides instructive architecture not only in the ASCs, but also in the organic solar cells (SCs), quantum dot SCs, and perovskite SCs.  相似文献

Nanofibers consisting of the bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic (BHJ–OPV) electron donor–electron acceptor pair poly(3‐hexylthiophene):phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:PCBM) are produced through a coaxial electrospinning process. While P3HT:PCBM blends are not directly electrospinnable, P3HT:PCBM‐containing fibers are produced in a coaxial fashion by utilizing polycaprolactone (PCL) as an electrospinnable sheath material. Pure P3HT:PCBM fibers are easily obtained after electrospinning by selectively removing the PCL sheath with cyclopentanone (average diameter 120 ± 30 nm). These fibers are then incorporated into the active layer of a BHJ–OPV device, which results in improved short‐circuit current densities, fill factors, and power‐conversion efficiencies (PCE) as compared to thin‐film devices of identical chemical composition. The best‐performing fiber‐based devices exhibit a PCE of 4.0%, while the best thin‐film devices have a PCE of 3.2%. This increase in device performance is attributed to the increased in‐plane alignment of P3HT polymer chains on the nanoscale, caused by the electrospun fibers, which leads to increased optical absorption and subsequent exciton generation. This methodology for improving device performance of BHJ–OPVs could also be implemented for other electron donor–electron acceptor systems, as nanofiber formation is largely independent of the PV material.  相似文献
