Intensive transformation and sedimentation of suspended matter from riverine runoff occur in estuarine frontal zones. The mesozooplankton community plays an important role in these processes. In the Ob Estuary, the dominant copepods Limnocalanus macrurus and Senecella siberica form dense local aggregations, but only scarce data on the ecology of these species in the estuarine environment are available. We aimed at analyzing the main aspects of the ecology of the two species including their grazing impact on phytoplankton. The distribution (net tows), ingestion rates (gut fluorescence analysis), respiration and excretion rates (incubation experiments), diet composition, gonad development and size of the lipid sacs of these copepods in a high-gradient area of the Ob Estuary were studied during a cruise of the R/V Professor Stockman in September 2013. S. siberica predominantly inhabited the freshwater zone; L. macrurus was more abundant in the estuarine frontal zone. In L. macrurus, adult females and males dominated the population, the herbivorous feeding hardly met the metabolic demands, the specific lipid content was high, and the gonads were developed. In S. siberica, the fifth copepodite stage (CV) dominated. The feeding rate considerably exceeded the metabolic requirements, and the lipid content was variable. The gonads were undeveloped. The two species grazed one-fifth of the phytoplankton biomass and more than 100 % of primary production, with S. siberica responsible for the main part of the total grazing impact (up to 90 %). These results are discussed in connection with the hydrophysical parameters and phase of the population’s life cycle. The obtained results contribute to the knowledge about zooplankton ecology and the transformation of suspended matter in an estuarine high-gradient environment.  相似文献

Quantified C-band karyograms are presented for the related speciesScilla siberica, S. mordakiae, S. ingridae, S. amoena, andS. mischtschenkoana. Chromosome structure, banding style, and heterochromatin characters suggest a systematic grouping of two more closely related species pairs:S. siberica andS. mordakiae, S. ingridae andS. amoena; they are part of a larger aggregate, well separated fromS. mischtschenkoana. Four different heterochromatin fractions can be recognized inS. siberica and its relatives, but only two inS. mischtschenkoana. C-bands do not replace, but they are added to euchromatin. The particular origin and history of the cultivatedS. amoena and the triploidS. siberica cv. Spring Beauty appear to be responsible for their karyotype constancy, but chromosome conservatism obviously is genuine inS. mischtschenkoana. The banding data support the systematic grouping proposed on a morphological basis, and provide additional evolutionary evidence.Evolution ofScilla and Related Genera, IV.  相似文献

A new species of Boeckella from limnetic samples of Laguna del Diamante, a high lake in the Andes (34°10 S) is described and illustrated. The species is defined by the characters of the male fifth leg: the right two segmented endopod bears four peculiar, short, claw-like spines, the left endopod is a simple finger-like projection. This species is related to B. gibbosa, also a species from the Andes and B. vallentini from Malvinas (Falkland Islands) and other subantarctic islands. It is distinguished from them by diagnostic features of the fifth legs of the male and abdominal structure and fifth legs of the female. Some current views on the features used in the taxonomy of the genus Boeckella are discussed.  相似文献

S. cilicica Siehe andS. morrisii Meikle are two little known sibling species of theScilla siberica alliance with previously difficult taxonomy, especially with regard to specific delimitation and geographic distribution. Quantitative C-band karyotyping and DNA content determinations were performed in four provenances, including the type localities. Both species (2n = 12) differ strikingly in their banding patterns despite of similar DNA content. Karyotype diversification involved changes in eu- and heterochromatin quantities and resulted in some changes of chromosome form. Despite this, actual phylogenetic relatedness is indicated by a chromosomal marker (NOR-position) of rare occurrence in the alliance. Karyological results and circumstantial evidence from the literature suggest thatS. morrisii is an endemic, exclusive to Cyprus as a member of theS. siberica alliance.S. cilicica seems to be restricted to continental S. Anatolia opposite to Cyprus. Its occurrence on Cyprus is questionable. The authors dedicate this paper respectfully to emer. O. Scilla persica and 5 species of the so-calledS. hohenackeri group, namely,S. furseorum, S. puschkinioides, S. vvedenskyi, S. hohenackeri, andS. greilhuberi, have been investigated embryologically with special reference to embryo sac and endosperm development.Polygonum-type embryo sac development was stated inS. puschkinioides andS. greilhuberi. 8-nucleate, normally structured embryo sacs, which could not be specified further due to sparse availability of the material, were stated inS. furseorum, S. vvedenskyi, andS. hohenackeri. InS. persica the embryo sac develops according to the bisporicAllium-type. In most species endosperm development was stated to be nuclear, exceptS. hohenackeri, where the type could not be specified. Other traits of possible taxonomic significance are the number of layers in the outer integument, which is mostly 4, or 5–6 inS. furseorum, and the occurrence of polyploid versus haploid and early degenerating antipodal nuclei, the latter occurring only inS. persica andS. furseorum. These embryological characters may be useful for assessing taxonomic relationship of the present species with other allied groups withinScilla, in particular, theS. siberica alliance,S. messeniaca, and theS. bifolia alliance. TheAllium-type embryo sac, which occurs inS. persica, is also characteristic for theS. siberica alliance, and may be a common derived character. Lack of antipodal polyploidization, as characteristic forS. persica andS. furseorum, occurs also in theS. siberica alliance, and is perhaps another common derived trait indicating phylogenetic relationship. Nuclear endosperm development is more frequent in spring-flowering squills than helobial development, which has previously been stated inS. messeniaca, some species of theS. siberica alliance, and inS. litardierei. While helobial endosperm may be primitive forHyacinthaceae in general, it may, by reversal, also occur as a derived character, at least in some species of theS. siberica alliance.  相似文献

In taxonomic studies (in preparation) of the genus Botryllophilus from the eastern and western coastal waters of the Pacific and from the northern Gulf of California, we have found that the females are morphologically divided into 2 types. The 2 morpho-types in our material, which includes 10 species, are characterized by features of the urosome including anal segment and caudal rami, rostrum, antennule, antenna, mandible, maxillule, maxilla, maxilliped, 1st to 5th legs, and the apparatus at the oviducal aperture. These characters are described and the significance of the recognition of the 2 morpho-types is discussed for the purpose of solving taxonomic problems in Botryllophilus.  相似文献

Synopsis The ways in which the distributions of six species of whiting (Sillaginidae) in the coastal marine waters of south-western Australia are related to the type of substrate (bare sand vs. seagrass), degree of exposure of habitat, water depth and body size have been investigated. Whiting in near shore waters (< 1.5 m) were sampled using a fine-meshed seine net, while those in shallow (5–15 m) and deep (20–35 m) waters of the inner continental shelf were sampled with a trawl net. Shallow nearshore waters are shown to provide nursery habitats for five of the six whiting species. In these waters, Sillaginodes punctata, Sillago burrus, Sillago schomburgkii and Sillago vittata mainly occur in protected areas, while Sillago bassensis predominantly occupies areas that are more exposed to wave and swell activity. The first three of these species also use estuaries as nursery areas. In nearshore waters, whiting were captured almost exclusively over bare sand, rather than in interpersed beds of the seagrass Posidonia spp., presumably reflecting the fact that the dense canopies produced by the wide blades of Posidonia spp. must inhibit penetration by the benthic whiting species. As 0 + S. punctata increase in size, they tend to move offshore during the day and inshore at night. Many mature representatives of S. schomburgkii are present in nearshore areas, whereas the other four species move offshore into inner-shelf waters as they increase in length. Sillago burrus and S. vittata remain in shallow inner-shelf waters, whereas the larger S. bassensis subsequently migrate into deeper inner-shelf waters. Large Sillago bassensis thus co-occurs with Sillago robusta, which is mainly found in those deeper waters, but does not reach as large a size. The larger S. punctata occupy areas near reefs which could not be sampled by trawl netting. There are thus interspecific differences in (i) the times of recruitment of the 0 + age class into nearshore areas, (ii) the types of habitat occupied during juvenile and adult life, and (iii) the degree to which fish move into more offshore waters as they increase in length, and one species is restricted to deeper waters. The resultant partial segregation among habitats of the coastal waters of south-western Australia by different size groups of these relatively abundant whiting species presumably reduces the potential for intra- and interspecific competition amongst these species.  相似文献

Prymnesium parvum has been known to cause mass mortality of fish in PR of China since 1963. It usually occurs in brackish waters and inland high-mineral waters. The fish-breeding industry (mainly species of carp) in these regions of the PRC has been threatened by this microalga. Electron microscopic examination of isolates from Dalian and Tianjin revealed that the isolates wereP. parvum, based on specific scale patterns and two kinds of scales. The symptoms of the poisoned fish and the control of this toxic alga are also discussed. The addition of ammonium sulfate, copper sulfate, mud, reduced salinity and organic fertilizer to fish ponds has been partially successful in controlling blooms of this toxic alga. Adding 50–70 kg ha–1 day–1 manure (dry weight) to the fish pond to inhibitP. parvum from becoming the dominant species in the fish pond is recommended. A reduction in salinity to less than 2 is the easiest way to save freshwater fish from being poisoned byP. parvum. Use of ammonium sulfate is an efficient, economical and safer method to controlP. parvum than copper sulfate or mud.  相似文献

The DNA base compositions of 60 strains ofScenedesmus were determined and found to be a valuable indicator for the differentiation within this genus (except for the very closely related species of the subsect.Desmodesmus). The range for allScenedesmus species was 49.9–69.3 mol% GC for nuclear DNA and 36.8–39.9 mol% GC for chloroplast DNA. The separation of the genusTetradesmus cannot be verified by GC values, becauseS. obliquus andS. (Tetradesmus)wisconsinensis have a similar GC content.S. (Chlorella)ultrasquamata, S. costato-granulatus (sect.Costato-granulati) andS. lunatus are separated clearly from all other species of the genus because of their high GC content.  相似文献

Summary As a result of the reconstruction of a dike on the Dutch island of Texel two small areas of the Wadden Sea were embanked in 1977 and 1978. In 1981 both by now blocked brackish waters were investigated for macrofauna and macroflora. The vegetation on these former parts of the Wadden Sea was still in a colonizing state. Many small patches ofRuppia spp. were found, contrary to older brackish waters with more extendedRuppia beds. The striking dominance ofR.maritima agrees with its large seed production enabling to colonize quickly new areas. In one of the ponds, where the maximum salinity of 23 Cl exceeded far the tolerance limit of this species given in the literature (15 Cl),R.maritima was still more numerous thanR.cirrhosa, a species which is more tolerant to salinity fluctuations. Several years after isolation these areas are still inhabited by a few Wadden Sea macrofauna species (e.g. Carcinus maenas, Hydrobia ulvae andCapitella capitata) who managed to survive the drastic environmental changes. In addition, a large number of species characteristic for blocked brackish waters has already colonized the new ponds. One of the two, that has always completely been isolated from other inland water, was inhabited in 1981 by 13 brackish water species. In the future the two new ponds on Texel are expected to loose their pioneer characteristics. There are reasons to expect that most of the Wadden Sea macrofauna relics will soon become extinct. A more extendedRuppia vegetation will probably develop together with a relative increase ofRuppia cirrhosa.  相似文献

Summary As neighboring plants flower sequentially, do flower feeders preferentially remain in the area, rather than move to another area with flowering plants? I examined the movements of the meloid beetle Epicauta pennsylvanica, a flower predator specializing on Solidago, in four types of replicated experimental plots — monocultures of Solidago altissima, or S. altissima interplanted with members of the same genus, same family, or different taxonomic orders. I released marked beetles only in the genus plots, which contained four species of Solidago, two that bloom before S. altissima. The number of beetles in the genus plots declined steadily as S. altissima came into flower in all the plots; the total number of beetles in all the plots remained fairly constant. I found no evidence that plant neighborhoods affected beetle distribution. Beetles foraging on the early blooming Solidago species did not remain in the genus plots as S. altissima came into flower. In addition, beetles that left the genus plots did not differentially accumulate in any of the other plot types, even though one type of plot was a monoculture with four times the density of S. altissima than the other plots.  相似文献

Two new species of parasitic copepods, Sagum gurukun n. sp. and S. bitaro n. sp. (Siphonostomatoida: Lernanthropidae), are described based on specimens collected from the gill filaments of the double-lined fusilier Pterocaesio digramma (Bleeker) (Actinopterygii: Perciformes: Caesionidae) and the five-lined snapper Lutjanus quinquelineatus (Bloch) (Actinopterygii: Perciformes: Lutjanidae), respectively, caught off Iriomote-jima Island, the Ryukyu Islands, East China Sea, Japan. The findings bring the number of species of Sagum to 14. The two new species are similar in the morphology of the head and the legs 3 and 4 to the three congeners, S. folium Ho, Liu & Liu, 2011, S. paracaesionis Izawa, 2014 and S. vietnamiensis Kazachenko, Kovaleva, Nguyen & Ngo, 2017. Sagum gurukun n. sp. is differentiated from the three congeners by the proportions of the caudal rami, the absence of leg 5, and the shape of the legs 1 and 2. Sagum bitaro n. sp. differs from the three congeners and S. gurukun n. sp. by the presence of the conical leg 5 armed with an apical seta. A key to the species of the genus Sagum, based on the available information on female morphology in previous publications and the present study, is provided. To date, a total of 19 species of lernanthropid copepods considered valid are known in Japanese waters.  相似文献

Chloroplast (cp) DNA from 32 genotypes representing eight genera and 19 species from the Andropogoneae tribe was analyzed using 15 restriction enzymes and Southern hybridization with 12 cpDNA probes that span the complete rice chloroplast genome. Six of the genera, Saccharum, Miscanthus, Erianthus, Narenga, Eccoilopus, and Sclerostachya, are part of the Saccharinae subtribe, whereas the other two, Zea and Sorghum, were used as outgroups. Narenga, Miscanthus, Erianthus, and Sclerostachya are presumed to have been involved in the evolution of Saccharum officinarum (noble or high sucrose sugarcane) via S. spontaneum and S. robustum. Southern hybridization with the rice cpDNA probes surveyed approximately 3% of the S. officinarum Black Cheribon genome and yielded 62 restriction site mutations (18 informative) that were analyzed using cladistic parsimony and maximum likelihood. These site mutations placed the 32 genotypes into nine different chloroplast groups; seven from within the Saccharinae subtribe and the two outgroups (maize and Sorghum). Phylogenetic inferrence under various assumptions showed that the maternal lineages of Narenga, Miscanthus, Sclerostachya, and Saccharum formed a monophyletic group. This group displayed little variation. On the other hand, 5 of 6 Erianthus species and Eccoilopus longisetosus formed a separate group. The Old World Erianthus/Eccoilopus chloroplast was very different from that of the rest of the Saccharum complex members and was slightly more related to that of Sorghum bicolor. Placement of these Erianthus/Eccoilopus genotypes was, therefore, in conflict with analyses based on morphology. Surprisingly, Erianthus trinii, a New World species, had the same restriction sites as did one Miscanthus sinensis. One Miscanthus sp. from New Guinea that has a very high chromosome number (2n=192) had the same restriction sites as the majority of the Saccharum genus, suggesting that introgression between these genera occurs in the wild. The Saccharum genus was separated into two clades by single site mutation: one containing S. spontaneum, and the other containing all of the remaining Saccharum species and all 8 commerical hybrids (from various regions of the world). A physical map of the chloroplast of Saccharum officinarum Black Cheribon was constructed using 5 restriction enzymes.  相似文献

Tasmanomysis oculata n.g. n.sp. belonging to the Tribe Mysini is described from the coastal waters of southern Tasmania. This new genus superficially resembles the monospecific genus Arthromysis Colosi,1924 known only from the Straits of Magellan. The form of the pleopods in the male together with the segmentation of the thoracic legs and shape of the telson clearly distinguish the two genera.  相似文献

A long-rod-shaped thermophilic microorganism, strain KW11, was isolated from a hot springs located in the Kawarayu, Gunma, Japan. Cloning and preliminary sequence analysis of 16S rDNA showed that this isolate belongs to the genus Thermus. The cells were 10–20 m long, about 0.8 m in diameter, and produced no pigment in contrast with most of the Thermus species previously reported. KW11 was an aerobic heterotroph and grew at temperatures ranging from 40–73°C, with optimal growth occurring at 68°C. The pH range for growth was from 5.8–8.9, with optimal growth around pH 7. KW11 was sensitive to ampicillin, penicillin G, kanamycin, and streptomycin. The G+C content of DNA was 69 mol%. The main fatty acids were 16:0 (52.9%), iso-15:0 (22.1%), and iso-17:0 (15.6%). The 16S rDNA sequence of KW11 showed 96.0, 95.8, and 95.4% similarity with the sequences of T. aquaticus, T. igniterrae, and T. thermophilus, respectively, and less than 95% with other Thermus species. The physiological differences and phylogenetic evidence indicated that strain KW11 represents T. kawarayensis, a novel species of the genus Thermus. The type strain is isolate KW11T (JCM12314, DSM16200).  相似文献

An ammonia-oxidizing bacterium was isolated from a sample of brackish water (North Sea, Harbour of Husum). It is a motile large coccus 1.5–1.7 m in diameter. The extensive cytomembrane system occurring as flattened vesicles in the peripheral region of the cytoplasm and as intrusions into the center of the cytoplasm is to be emphasized as a characteristic mark of identification. The lithoauto-trophically growing bacterium turned out to be an obligate halophile. Because of its physiological and morphological properties, we assigned it to the genus Nitrosoccus and propose the name Nitrosococcus mobilis.  相似文献

A new rust fungus,Spumula serispora, is described. The morphology of the teliospores and the telia was studied. In the teliospores ofS. serispora andS. quadrifida, the type species of the genus, sterile cells could be found, which are comparable to apical cells of otherRaveneliaceae. Similar sterile cells were also present in the telial heads ofRavenelia texensis. The ontogeny of the teliospores ofS. serispora and the teliospore heads ofRavenelia texensis was studied and compared. In both species the ontogeny of the spores heads was similar. InR. texensis hygroscopic cysts sustaining the spore heads were produced by division and not by conversion of basal sterile cells of the teliospore heads.Part 114 of the series Studies inHeterobasidiomycetes.  相似文献

The genus Hartaetosiga Carr, Richter and Nitsche, 2017 comprised up to now only three species, H. gracilis (Kent) Carr, Richter, Nitsche, 2017, Hbalthica (Wylezich and Karpov) Carr, Richter and Nitsche, 2017 and H. minima (Wylezich and Karpov) Carr, Richter and Nitsche, 2017. Based on distinct molecular data these species were relocated from the strictly freshwater genus Codosiga (Ehrenberg) Bütschli, 1878 to a new genus comprising brackish and marine species. During the cruise MSM82/2 across the Atlantic Ocean in 2019, surface water samples were taken from 15 stations along a transect ranging from 35°S to 23°N. We were able to isolate and cultivate 14 strains of the genus Hartaetosiga. Morphometric data showed no distinct morphological traits allowing for a species delineation, indicating a cryptic species complex within the genus. Based on cultivation, morphological data, and molecular analyses, we recorded H. gracilis for the first time from off-shelf waters of the Atlantic Ocean and could describe a new species, H. australis n. sp. This new species was recorded from sampling stations in the Southern Hemisphere only, which may indicate a potential biogeographic restriction likely caused by the Equatorial Counter Current (ECC), dividing the northern and southern surface waters.  相似文献

Between 1995 and 2006, manned submersible fish surveys were conducted on the sea floor throughout the Southern California Bight. A total of 401 dives (comprising 1,015 transects and 14,373 habitat patches) were made in waters between 19 and 365 m deep. All natural habitat types were included, although both soft sea floors and rocky reefs were surveyed more than any other type. A total of 717,526 fishes, representing a minimum of 137 species and 47 families, were observed. Rockfishes (genus Sebastes), with a minimum of 50 species and 647,495 individuals (90.2% of all fishes observed), dominated most of the habitats. The most abundant species, squarespot (Sebastes hopkinsi), halfbanded (Sebastes semicinctus), shortbelly (Sebastes jordani), and pygmy rockfishes (Sebastes wilsoni), are dwarf taxa that either school or aggregate. The most abundant non-rockfish species was the benthic and territorial blackeye goby (Rhinogobiops nicholsii). Both species richness and overall fish densities were highest in the shallowest sites. Most of the fishes in all habitats were small (≤20 cm TL long) and economically important species were generally uncommon. Forty-four species were found to be characteristic of the study area (occurring in at least 5% of the transects) and these species formed three faunal associations centered around depths of 62, 105, and 168 m. Based on size frequency distributions, at least 18 of the characteristic species exhibited ontogenetic movements, with young-of-the-year and older juveniles living in relatively shallow waters and larger individuals generally in deeper depths. In this study, the abundance of juvenile widow rockfish (Sebastes entomelas), and the virtual absence of adults, in southern California waters may demonstrate an ontogenetic northward movement of this species. This research implies that substantial harvesting of larger species by commercial and recreational fishers has helped alter some fish assemblages, allowing small and “weedy” species to thrive.
