Fifteen Awassi lambs and 15 Baladi kids (males, averaging 14.3 kg) were used to study the differences in feeding behavior and performance of sheep and goats fed a concentrate finishing diet (CP = 16 kg/100 kg DM, ME = 2.85 Mcal/kg DM) in a complete randomized design experiment lasting 60 days. Dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) intakes were significantly (P < 0.05) higher in lambs. Kids had higher (P < 0.05) apparent OM, crude protein (CP) and gross energy digestibilities. No significant (P > 0.05) differences were observed in apparent neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibility, eating, chewing and ruminating times. However, eating and ruminating times (as min/kg NDF intake) was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in kids. Final body weight and average daily weight gain were significantly (P < 0.05) higher in lambs while kids had significantly (P < 0.05) lower feed to gain ratio. Feed cost per kilogram weight gain for kids was better than that for lambs. Results demonstrated that Awassi lambs consumed more feed and grew faster than Baladi kids. However, kids were more efficient feed converters than lambs.  相似文献

Effects of partial substitution of barley grain and soybean meal with fleabane (FB) Conyza bonariensis on growth performances and body compositions of 24 male local Awassi lambs were studied. All lambs were male with an average BW of 20.3 kg (s.d. = 2.0 kg) at the beginning of the experiment. Animals were randomly divided into four groups of six lambs each. Lambs in each group received individually their cereal–soybean-based total mixed rations with levels of FB: 0, 50, 100 and 150 g/kg dry matter (DM) diet, which replaced similar values of barley and soybean meal. All rations were isonitrogenous and isocaloric. The fattening experiment lasted 9 weeks, after which all lambs were slaughtered. The composition of nutrients in the C. bonariensis were 89.6%, 15.0%, 28.0%, 30.0% and 10% for organic matter, CP, NDF, ADF and lignin, respectively. At the end of the experiment, lambs fed 100 and 150 g FB/kg DM diets gained more weight (P < 0.05) than those fed the control and 50 g FB/kg DM diets. The DM intake was lower in lambs fed the highest level of FB compared with intakes of lambs in other treatments. Diet content of FB had significant effect (P < 0.05) on weights of empty body, carcass, gut and external (hide, head and feet) among all animals. However, FB had no effects on lambs’ thoracic organs (lungs and heart) and liver. Muscle, bone, omental and mesenteric fat, subcutaneous, intermuscular, pelvic and kidney fat weights (g/kg empty BW) were not affected by FB feeding. Carcass fat was decreased (P < 0.05) by the increase of FB. Total body fat was the same in all animals of the experiment.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the nutritional quality of cattle manure silage for ruminants. In experiment 1 a silage containing 50% cattle manure, 20% cane molasses (containing 0.4% urea) mixed with water in a 1:1.5 ratio, and 30% corn stover replaced 0, 50, 75 and 100% of corn stover in isonitrogenous diets (1.92% N) containing 70 or 80% corn stover (dry matter (DM) basis) in a 4×2 factorial arrangement. Forty lambs (34.5±3.2 kg body weight (BW)) were used to measure apparent digestibility and nitrogen balance in a completely randomized design with factorial arrangement (4×2) with five lambs per treatment. The cattle manure silage was also evaluated in growing Holstein heifers (212±32 kg BW) replacing 0, 25 or 37.5% of corn stover with cattle manure silage in isonitrogenous diets (2.24% N). Apparent digestibility of DM, organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) were not affected. According to these results, digestibility is not affected by the level of cattle manure silage; however, intake was depressed at the highest levels of silage in lambs. Cattle manure silage may be considered as a potential by-product to be included in heifer's diet up to 37.5%, apparently without affecting performance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different inclusion levels of semi-purified glycerine in the diet of feedlot lambs on feeding behaviour, nutrient intake and digestibility, carcass characteristics, meat quality and in vitro degradability. Thirty-two Dorper × (Texel × Suffolk) crossbred intact male lambs (22.2 ± 5.51 kg) were fed glycerine (90% purity) at 0, 120, 240 or 360 g/kg dry matter (DM) in a total mixed ration with a roughage to concentrate ratio of 40:60 for 84 d. In vitro degradability was not affected by glycerine supplementation. Feeding behaviour and digestibility of DM, crude protein and fibre and production performance were similar among treatments. Ether extract digestibility was lower at the highest inclusion level. Glycerine level had no effect on ruminal pH, carcass characteristics and meat quality, except for subcutaneous fat thickness which was lower for lambs fed glycerine at 240 and 360 g/kg DM. Scores for unpleasant taste, unpleasant odour, succulence and softness of meat were not affected by dietary glycerine level. These data suggest that there are no adverse effects on carcass quality and performance when semi-purified glycerine is provided up to 360 g/kg DM in the diet of growing lambs fed a forage to concentrate ratio of 40:60.  相似文献

Exercise and physical training are known to affect gastrointestinal function and digestibility in horses and can lead to inaccurate estimates of nutrient and energy digestibility when markers are used. The effect of exercise on apparent nutrient digestibility and faecal recoveries of ADL and TiO2 was studied in six Welsh pony geldings subjected to either a low- (LI) or high-intensity (HI) exercise regime according to a cross-over design. Ponies performing LI exercise were walked once per day for 45 min in a horse walker (5 km/h) for 47 consecutive days. Ponies submitted to HI exercise were gradually trained for the same 47 days according a standardized protocol. Throughout the experiment, the ponies received a fixed level of feed and the daily rations consisted of 4.7 kg DM of grass hay and 0.95 kg DM of concentrate. The diet was supplemented with minerals, vitamins and TiO2 (3.0 g Ti/day). Total tract digestibility of DM, organic matter (OM), CP, crude fat, NDF, ADF, starch, sugar and energy was determined with the total faeces collection (TFC) method. In addition, DM and OM digestibility was estimated using internal ADL and the externally supplemented Ti as markers. Urine was collected on the final 2 days of each experimental period. Exercise did not affect apparent digestibility of CP, crude fat, starch and sugar. Digestibility of DM (DMD), OM (OMD), ADF and NDF tended to be lower and DE was decreased when ponies received the HI exercise regime. For all treatments combined, mean faecal recoveries of ADL and Ti were 87.8±1.7% and 99.3±1.7%, respectively. Ti was not detected in the urine, indicating that intestinal integrity was maintained with exercise. Dry matter digestibility estimated with the TFC, ADL and Ti for ponies subjected to LI exercise were 66.3%, 60.3% and 64.8%, respectively, while DMD for HI ponies were 64.2%, 60.3% and 65.2%, respectively. In conclusion, physical exercise has an influence on the GE digestibility of the feed in ponies provided with equivalent levels of feed intake. In addition, the two markers used for estimating apparent DMD and OMD indicate that externally supplemented Ti is a suitable marker to determine digestibility of nutrients in horses performing exercise unlike dietary ADL.  相似文献

Cashew nut meal (CNM) is widely used in tropical countries due to the high protein and energy levels; therefore, it has potential to be an alternative feed supplementation for livestock. Our objective was to evaluate the use of CNM as feed supplement for lambs. Twenty-four lambs were divided into a randomized block design with four treatments, starting with a diet control of Tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.) hay and CNM as a supplement at three different levels representing 6, 12, and 18% of the total mixed ration (TMR) provided. There were evaluated intake (g/day and g/kgBW0.75); the digestibility of DM and nutrients; nitrogen balance; and ingestive behavior. The CP and ether extract (EE) intake (g/day) as well as DM, and organic matter (OM) intake (g/kgBW0.75) were influenced by supplementation with CNM in a positive linear increase (P < 0.05). The digestibility of DM, OM and NDF increased according to the levels of CNM up to 12% and markedly decreased at the higher level (P < 0.05). The EE and CP digestibility raised according to the CNM levels (P < 0.05) and consequently increased the nitrogen retention resulting in a positive nitrogen balance. The protein and energetic characteristics of CNM show that it can be used as an alternative supplementation to low-quality forages for lambs. However, its use as a single supplement ingredient above 7% on total mixed ration may reduce fiber digestibility.  相似文献

This study compared the effect of supplementing maize stover (MS) with cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) haulms or commercial concentrate (CC) on feed intake, nutrient digestibility, live weight gain and carcass yield of male Ethiopian Highland sheep. Two cowpea genotypes, 12688 (forage) and IT96D-774 (dual-purpose), were used. A randomised block design was applied with groups of eight sheep, blocked by weight, allocated to one of six treatments; MS ad libitum either unsupplemented or supplemented daily with 150 or 300 g dry matter (DM) of either cowpea or CC. MS contained more neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and lignin than either cowpeas or CC. Crude protein (CP) content of the forage-type cowpeas was higher than either dual-purpose or CC, while MS had the lowest CP content. Relative to the negative control group, cowpea at either level significantly (P < 0.01) increased both MS intake and total NDF and lignin. Supplementation significantly (P < 0.01) increased nitrogen (N) intakes relative to the negative control, with N intake for CC and dual-purpose cowpea (high level) being similar to the intakes for cowpeas at 150 g. N intake with the forage-type cowpea offered at higher levels was significantly (P < 0.01) greater than the other groups. No significant differences (P > 0.01) in MS intake were identified between cowpeas at either level or CC and, although intake level of CC increased, it did not differ significantly from the negative control group. Supplementation significantly (P < 0.01) improved average daily gain, with the negative control group losing weight over the experimental period, and increased final live weight, carcass cold weight and dressing percentage. Supplementation significantly improved the apparent digestibility of DM, organic matter and NDF, with no significant difference found between cowpeas at either level. N retention was negative for sheep offered only MS, but positive with all supplements, with cowpeas improving N retention to a greater extent than CC. Interestingly, N retention/N intake was higher with cowpeas offered at the lower level suggesting an improvement in utilisation efficiency. The results indicate that the supplementation of MS with cowpea enhanced ruminant production through improvements in digestibility and intake. Further, as production improvements associated with the two levels of supplementation did not differ significantly, it is suggested that where limited quantities of cowpea are available, it may be of greater nutritional benefit to offer smaller quantities over an increased number of animal days.  相似文献

Thirty-six 2.5-year-old wether Inner Mongolian White Cashmere Goats (IMWG) (BW = 42.7 ± 3.44 kg) were used to determine the effects of dietary copper (Cu) concentration on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and fiber characteristics during the cashmere slow-growing period. Wethers were stratified by weight and randomly assigned to four dietary treatments, which included a control diet containing 5.60 mg Cu/kg DM, the control diet supplied, respectively, with 10, 20 and 30 mg Cu/kg DM (total dietary Cu level of 5.60, 15.6, 25.6 and 35.6 mg/kg DM). The experiment lasted 50 days including a 10-day preliminary trial and 10-day metabolism trial. Average daily feed intake (ADFI) did not differ among treatment groups (P > 0.05), except that the supplement providing 30 mg Cu/kg DM decreased average daily gain and gain efficiency (P < 0.05). Copper supplementation had no influence on digestibility of DM, CP and ADF (P > 0.05), however, NDF digestibility of the treatment group supplemented with 30 mg Cu/kg DM was lower compared with that of other groups (P < 0.05). Length and growth rate of cashmere fiber were higher in the treatment group supplemented with 20 mg Cu/kg DM compared with other groups (P < 0.05), but cashmere diameter was not affected by Cu supplementation (P > 0.05). In conclusion, supplementation of Cu at the levels of 10, 20 and 30 mg/kg DM to the basal diet containing 5.60 mg Cu/kg DM had no influence on ADFI or nutrient digestibility of DM, CP and ADF in cashmere goats, while 30 mg Cu/kg DM supplementation had a negative effect on growth performance and NDF digestibility. However, 20 mg Cu/kg DM supplementation of the basal diet enhanced cashmere growth. Hence, the appropriate supplemental level during the cashmere slow-growing period is deemed to be 20 mg Cu/kg DM (total dietary Cu level of 25.6 mg/kg DM).  相似文献

A study was conducted to assess the effect of feeding graded levels of tannin-containing Prosopis cineraria leaves in a complete feed mixture (CFM) on the performance of lambs and kids. Eighteen lambs and 18 kids of Malpura and Marwari breed, respectively of similar age (90 days) and body weight (11.0 kg), were randomly distributed in to three groups of six each. Each group was offered complete feed mixtures ad libitum in feeding troughs under group feeding system for 90 days. The concentrate component of CFM was from the commercial feed in mash form containing corn, soybean meal, wheat bran and de-oiled rice bran. Prosopis leaves were ground to pass through a 4 mm sieve before being thoroughly mixed with required quantity of concentrate mash. CFMs contained graded levels of P. cineraria leaves. In, CFM-1, ratio of P. cineraria to concentrate mixture was 25: 75 (T1), whereas in CFM-2 and CFM-3, it was 50:50 (T2) and 75:25 (T3), respectively. The lambs in L1, L2 and L3 and kids in K1, K2 and K3, groups received CFM-1, CFM-2 and CFM-3, respectively. CP (g kg−1) was 182 in CFM-1, 162 in CFM-2 and 140 in CFM-3. P. cineraria leaves contained (g kg−1) CP 159, neutral detergent fibre (NDF) 567, acid detergent fibre (ADF) 360 and acid detergent lignin (ADL) 189 on dry matter (DM) basis. The extractable condensed tannin (CT; leucocyanidin equivalent), hydrolysable tannin (HT) and protein precipitation capacity (PPC) of the leaves (g kg−1) were 90.7, 3.4 and 111.5, respectively. DMI in L1 and L2 lambs were higher than their corresponding groups in kids, whereas it was reverse in L3 (more in kids than lambs). Significant difference in digestible crude protein (DCP) intake was recorded among the groups in both lambs and kids. In lambs, highest DCPI (g day−1) was recorded in L1 (93.3), as compared to L2 (82.2) and L3 (37.2), whereas in kids it was K2 (73.4), followed by K1 (69.2) and K3 (43.8). Significant difference in the digestibility of DM, CP and NDF were recorded among three groups in both species. Maximum nutrient digestibility was recorded in T1 followed by T2 and T3 in both lambs and kids. However, digestibility of all the nutrients was more in kids than that of lambs. Maximum ammonia-N, total N and trichloro acetic acid (TCA) precipitable N was recorded in T1 followed by T2 and T3 in both the species. However, there was no typical trend between the two species in rumen parameters. Blood haemoglobin (Hb) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) values were highest in T1 followed by T2 and T3 in both lambs and kids. After 90 days of intensive feeding, maximum weight gain was recorded in T2 as compared to that of T1 and T3 in both lambs and kids. Although L1 lambs performed better under high concentrate diet compared to K1 kids, weight gain in K2 and K3 kids were significantly higher compared to their counter part lambs. Similar was the trend in ADG also. It was concluded that performance of lambs and kids differed with the level of CT in their diet and kids performed better on high tannin diet as compared to that of lambs.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of malic acid (MA) supplementation on rumen fermentation, urinary excretion of purine derivatives (PDs) and whole gastro-intestinal tract feed digestibility in steers. Eight ruminally cannulated Simmental steers (465 ± 13 kg) were used in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design. The treatments were: control (without MA), LMA (MA-low), MMA (MA-medium) and HMA (MA-high) with 0.0, 7.8, 15.6 and 23.4 g MA per kg dry matter (DM), respectively. Diets consisted of corn stover and concentrate (60/40, DM basis). DM intake was approximately 9 kg per day, which was 90% of ad libitum intake including 5.4 kg corn stover and 3.6 kg concentrate. Ruminal pH (range of 6.91 to 6.56), ratio of acetate to propionate (range of 3.88 to 3.25), ammonia N (range of 9.03 to 6.42 mg/100 ml) and lactate (range of 91.25 to 76.31 mg/100 ml) decreased linearly as MA supplementation increased, whereas total volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration (range of 55.68 to 61.49 mM) linearly (P < 0.05) increased with increase in MA supplementation. In situ ruminal neutral detergent fiber (aNDF) degradation of corn stover was improved but the crude protein (CP) degradability of concentrate mix was decreased with increasing the dose of MA. Urinary excretion of PDs was quadratically (P < 0.01) changed with altering MA supplementation (67.88, 72.74, 75.81 and 73.78 mmol/day for control, LMA, MMA and HMA, respectively). Similarly, digestibilities of DM, organic matter (OM), NDF and acid detergent fiber (ADF) in the total tract were also quadratically increased with increasing MA, and no differences in terms of CP and ether extract digestibility were observed. The results indicate that MA supplementation has the potential to improve rumen fermentation and feed digestion in beef cattle. The MA stimulates the digestive microorganisms or enzymes in a quadratic response. In the experimental conditions of this trial, the optimum MA dose was 15.6 g MA per kg DM.  相似文献

The aim of the present dose response study was to examine the long-term effects of increasing the amounts of rare earth elements (REE) in the diet on growth and slaughtering performance of fattening bulls. A total of 48 bulls of German Holstein with an average initial live weight (LW) of 119 + 13 kg were divided into four dietary treatment groups (n = 12): a control group and three REE-treated groups, which were fed a supplement of 100, 200 and 300 mg REE-citrate per kg dry matter (DM) containing mainly cerium (57.9%), lanthanum (34.0%) and praseodymium (6.5%). The feeding trial was divided into a growing period for 8 weeks and a fattening period for 39 weeks. The growing diet consisted of concentrate, grass silage and grass hay, while the fattening diet consisted of concentrate and maize silage. The animals were slaughtered at approximately 556 kg LW. The intake of grass hay and maize silage (0.55-0.31 kg/d and 6.09-5.44 kg/d, respectively) decreased linearly (p < 0.05) with increasing REE-citrate supplementation, while LW gain showed only a numerical decrease during the growing (2-4%) and the fattening period (4-5%). The feed-to-gain ratio and ME-to-gain ratio were not significantly affected by REE treatment during the whole feeding trial. The most striking effect of REE on carcass characteristics was a significantly higher dressing percentage in Group C (200 mg REE citrate kg/DM) compared to the other groups, while no effects were found on liver, kidneys, heart, thymus, pancreas, spleen and thyroid gland weights. The digestibility trials with wethers indicate that a supplementation of 300 mg REE-citrate per kg DM to a ration consisting of concentrate and straw does not enhance the digestibility of nutrients. These results suggest that, under the conditions of the present study, the supplementation of fattening bull diets with REE cannot be recommended.  相似文献

Studies were conducted to determine the rumen degradable nitrogen (RDN) requirement levels for optimum microbial protein synthesis and nutrient utilization in Nellore rams fed on finger millet straw (FMS) based diet. Thirty six Nellore sheep were randomly divided into four groups of nine animals each using the balanced completely randomized design. Animals in all the groups were fed finger millet straw as a basal roughage and groundnut cake (GNC) was offered daily in two equal halves in the morning (8.00 AM) and evening (4.00 PM) as RDN source. The animals in group I (GI) were fed with ad libitum FMS. Animals in group II, III and IV (GII, GIII, and IV) were offered GNC @ 12.4, 16.6, and 21.1 g RDN/kg digestible organic matter (DOM) along with FMS. The daily total dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) intakes linearly increased (P<0.05) with increasing level of RDN supplementation while there was no difference in total DM and OM intake/kg W0.75 among different experimental groups. The digestibility coefficients of DM (P<0.001), OM (P<0.001), crude protein (CP) (P<0.001), ether extract (EE) (P<0.001), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) (P<0.01) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) (P<0.03) increased quadratically with increasing level of RDN supplementation from GI to GIV. The purine derivatives (PD) excretion, microbial purine absorption and microbial nitrogen supply (MNS g/day) linearly increased (P<0.001) as the level of RDN supplementation increased. There was no difference in nitrogen capture efficiency (NCE) and microbial nitrogen to total urinary nitrogen ratio (MN:UN) among the RDN supplemented groups. This study indicated that 12 g RDN/kg digestible organic matter intake (RDN g/kg DOMI) or 18 g RDN/kg OM apparently digested in the rumen (RDN g/kg DOMR) may be adequate for optimum microbial protein synthesis and digestibility of nutrients, there by improved plane of nutrition in sheep fed on finger millet straw based diet.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of adding yeast culture and sodium bicarbonate to the finishing diets for lambs on intake, digestibility, rumina1 parameters and nitrogen retention. Twenty Pelibuey male lambs, weighing an average of 23 kg, were assigned to one of four treatment groups according to a completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. Treatments were: (1) no additive (NA); (2) 0.12% yeast culture (YC); (3) 0.5% sodium bicarbonate (SB); and (4) 0.12% YC and 0.5% SB. During the 7-day collection period, SB increased DM intake (P < 0.05), while YC had no effect (P > 0.05) on intake. Intake of non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) was increased (P < 0.05) with SB in the ration, but not by supplementing YC (P > 0.05). The YC had no effect (P > 0.05) on dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) or non-fibrous carbohydrates digestibility. A higher intake of NFC with the SB treatments was associated with a lower (P < 0.05) digestibility. SB increased excretion of NDF (P < 0.05), which reduced its digestibility (P < 0.05) by more than 9 percentage units. Lambs consuming diets with SB had 27% more N retained, in contrast with those fed the basal diet without additives. Rumen pH was greater than the minimum considered to cause acidosis (≤pH 5.5). The SB reduced (P < 0.05) percent molar acetate and increased (P < 0.05) percent molar propionate, which is in contrast to what has been normally observed with dairy cattle research. A lower acetate to propionate ratio with the SB rations may be a result of a lower digestibility and a higher intake of NDF, which may have increased the rate of passage of fiber particles through the gastrointestinal tract.  相似文献

Twenty healthy growing male kids (Sannen × Beetal and Alpine × Beetal) of 2–3 months of age, weighing 12 ± 0.61 kg, were randomly assigned to one to four dietary treatments in a 2 × 2 factorial design. Two types of isonitrogenous and isocaloric concentrate mixtures were fed to kids in four treatments being: untreated mustard cake, untreated mustard cake with molasses, formaldehyde treated mustard cake and formaldehyde treated mustard cake with molasses. Both concentrate mixtures were similar in composition with the only difference in RDP and UDP due to replacement of untreated mustard cake by formaldehyde (FA) treated mustard cake. Kids were fed concentrate and forage (berseem hay:wheat straw = 2:1) in a 50:50 ratio. A metabolism experiment of 7 days duration was conducted before the end of the experiment. Kids were housed in individual pens and fed experimental diets for 120 days. No differences occurred in digestibility of DM, OM, CP and NDFom, but ether extract digestion in kids fed FA treated mustard cake was higher (P<0.05). Supplementation of molasses increased apparent nutrient digestibility, without influencing digestion of CP and NDFom. Intake of DM, CP and ME did not differ among treatments. The CP content of the diet actually consumed that was supplemented with molasses was lower (P<0.01), with a higher (P<0.01) ME content, without influence of FA treatment on nutritive level of the diet consumed. N balance was higher (P<0.01) in kids fed FA treated MC and supplemental molasses. Microbial protein yield, calculated from purine derivatives excreted in urine, was similar among treatments. The DM intake in the growth experiment was higher by feeding both FA treated MC and molasses. Average daily gain was influenced by feeding FA treated MC, without any effect of supplemental molasses on growth rate of the kids. The higher DM intake and improved growth rate in kids fed FA treated MC resulted better feed efficiency. Higher UDP intake improved growth performance in kids and supplementation of molasses, with or without ruminal escape CP, has no added advantage.  相似文献

This study was carried out to evaluate intake, digestibility, ruminal fermentation, nitrogen (N) retention and ruminal microbial protein synthesis in lambs fed dwarf elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum. cv. Mott) hay or hay supplemented with urea and 0, 5, 10 or 15 g/kg of live weight (LW) of cracked corn grain. Ten lambs (mean LW of 28 ± 0.9 kg), housed in metabolic cages, were used in a double 5 × 5 Latin Square experiment. Except fibre intake and digestibility, which was higher, the intake and digestibility of the others feed components, as well as ruminal microbial protein synthesis and N retention were lower in non-supplemented lambs. Corn supplementation increased total dry matter (DM) (P<0.05), organic matter (OM), non-structural carbohydrate (NSC) and energy intake (P<0.01) but decreased total neutral detergent fibre (aNDFom) (P<0.01) intake, as well as OM and aNDFom intake from the hay (P<0.01). Apparent DM, OM and energy digestibility, as well as OM true digestibility (OMTD) increased (P<0.01), and aNDFom digestibility decreased linearly (P<0.01) as corn supplementation increased. Total N intake was not influenced but, apparent and true N digestibility, as well as urinary N excretion decreased (P<0.01), and ruminal microbial N entering the small intestine increased linearly (P<0.01) as corn supplementation increased. However, the efficiency of ruminal microbial protein synthesis was similar for all treatments. Mean ruminal pH values and ammonia N concentrations decreased linearly (P<0.01) with level of corn supplementation. Ammonia N and amino acid, as well as peptide concentrations in ruminal fluid were quadratically related (P<0.01) with the time after feeding. Corn supplementation had a linear additive effect on total dry matter and digestible energy intake, as well as on N retention, but a linear negative effect on hay intake and on fibre digestibility. However, decreased forage digestibility by animals was probably neither related to lower ruminal pH, which values were always higher than 7.0, nor related to ruminal sugar concentrations, which were similar for all treatments.  相似文献

Total tract apparent digestibility of dietary fibrous components and parameters of the faecal digestive ecosystem were compared at immediate and late post-weaning periods using five foals. The foals were abruptly weaned (day 0) from their mares at 6 months of age. Immediately (day 0 to day 14) and later (day 131 to day 194) after weaning, foals received the same basal diet consisting of hay and pellets. Pellets were fed at 0.36% BW. Hay was offered ad libitum and corresponded to 120% of the average voluntary hay intake measured individually during the immediate (days 1 to 4) and late (days 180 to 183) post-weaning periods. Total feed intake was measured during the two post-weaning periods (from days 7 to 10 and from days 187 to 190). Total tract apparent digestibility of DM, organic matter (OM), NDF and ADF was assessed using a 4-day partial collection of faeces (from days 8 to 11 and from days 188 to 191). Major bacterial groups in faeces, Fibrobacter succinogenes, DM, pH and volatile fatty acids were quantified at days −1, 1, 3, 7, 14 and 180. During the post-weaning period, minor changes were observed in the composition and activity of the faecal microbiota. The amylolytic count in faeces decreased immediately after weaning (between days 1 and 7) (P<0.05). Later (from days 14 to 180), the molar proportion of propionate decreased (P=0.03). The limited alteration seen in the hindgut ecosystem was probably due to the fact that the foals had undergone a gradual dietary transition from milk to solid feed before weaning. Such conclusions have also been reported in other animal species. Between the immediate and late post-weaning periods, the average daily feed intake and the digestibility coefficients of DM, OM, NDF and ADF increased (P<0.05). These results could suggest an increase in the fibre-degrading capacity of foals after weaning.  相似文献

Plantain sheath (Musa sapientum) contained 6.4% dry matter and 3.4% crude protein, 31.4% crude fibre, 34.6% cellulose, 15.5% hemicellulose and 6% lignin in dry matter.

Digestibility in vitro studies with fistulated bucks revealed a dry matter disappearance of 53.3% after 24 h incubation. The digestibility of neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and cellulose after 24 h fermentation was 32.2, 21.5 and 30.3%, respectively. After 48 h fermentation, the dry matter digestibility increased to 63.4%, NDF to 47.0%, ADF to 32.2% and cellulose to 42.3%.

A 45-day feeding trial was conducted with 16 crossbred lambs. Plantain sheath replaced paragrass hay dry matter at 32.6, 54.7 and 76.6% levels. Dried plantain sheath, which contributed 14.1, 25 and 34.5% of total dry matter intake, helped a daily gain of 31.1, 28.9 and 37.8 g when fed mixed with concentrate feed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to determine effects of a complex of fibre-degrading enzymes (xylanase, cellulase and β-glucanase) on nutrient digestibility, fibre fermentation and concentrations of short chain fatty acids (SCFA) at different parts of digestive tract in pigs fed different fibre-rich ingredients. A total of 36 barrows fitted with T-cannulas in the distal ileum (initial body weight of 41.1 ± 2.7 kg) were randomly allotted to six dietary treatments with three different high-fibre diets including maize bran (MB), sugar beet pulp (SBP) and soybean hulls (SH) with or without supplementation of fibre-degrading enzymes. Enzyme supplementation improved (p < 0.05) apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of dietary gross energy (GE), crude protein, dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), total dietary fibre (TDF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dietary GE, DM, OM, TDF, insoluble dietary fibre (IDF) when pigs were fed MB, SBP or SH diets. When compared to the SBP and SH diets, the AID of GE, DM, ash, OM and NDF in diet MB was higher (p < 0.05), but the hindgut disappearance and ATTD of nutrients, except for ether extract and crude ash, were lower (p < 0.05). Enzyme supplementation increased acetate and total SCFA concentrations in ileal digesta and faeces of pigs. In conclusion, enzyme addition improved IDF fermentation and SCFA concentration in the whole intestine of pigs, and there was a large variation of digestibility of fibre components among MB, SH and SBP owing to their different fibre composition. Therefore, fibre-degrading enzymes should be applied to fibrous diets to improve efficient production of swine, especially considering low fibre digestibility of fibre-rich ingredients.  相似文献

Cannulated beef cattle (four cows: 556 kg initial weight; four steers: 504 kg initial weight) were used in an experiment with two simultaneous Latin squares to determine effects of substituting alfalfa and(or) corn for vegetative bermudagrass (BER; 77% neutral detergent fibre and 5.5% acid detergent lignin) or mature bromegrass (BRO; 70% neutral detergent fibre and 6.6% acid detergent lignin) hay on digestion characteristics. For Controls, BER or BRO was fed at 1.32 or 1.54% body weight of cows and steers, respectively; other treatments entailed substitution for hay DM of alfalfa cubes (17%) or ground corn (33%). A protein supplement was given to all animals. In vitro neutral detergent fibre (NDF) digestion was slightly greater for BER than BRO. Supplement treatments did not affect the concentration of total volatile fatty acids or the molar proportion of propionate in ruminai fluid. True ruminai organic matter (OM) digestion was similar among diets; greater duodenal microbial OM flow and postruminal NDF digestion for BRO than BER diets were responsible for higher (P < 0.05) postruminal OM digestion for BRO diets. Supplement treatment did not affect duodenal microbial nitrogen flow or efficiency of microbial growth. Corn supplementation increased total tract OM digestion (P < 0.05). Alfalfa addition depressed total tract OM and NDF digestibilities more when added to BER than BRO; depressions in total tract NDF digestion with alfalfa and corn substitutions were additive. With constant DM intake, slightly less than ad libitum, alfalfa or corn substituted alone or together for hay did not improve characteristics of digestion by cattle consuming vegetative bermudagrass or mature bromegrass other than increased postruminal and total tract OM digestiblities with corn.  相似文献

Effects of supplementing tree foliage mixtures on voluntary intake, apparent digestibility and N balance was evaluated using Pelibuey sheep fed low quality diets. Five treatments were examined in a 5 × 5 Latin square design, which consisted of a basal diet of grass (Sorghum halepense) hay supplemented with Brosimum alicastrum (B) and Lysiloma latisiliquum (L) at the following rates (g DM/kg diet): B264, L0; B198, L66; B132, L132; B66, L198 and B0, L264. Additionally, an in situ degradability evaluation was completed with two ruminally cannulated cows. Neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent insoluble N (ADIN), lignin(sa) and total phenols (TP) were higher (P<0.01) in L. latisiliquum versus B. alicastrum. Daily intake (g/kg LW0.75/day) of DM (from 98 to 73) and OM (from 88 to 66) decreased quadratically (P<0.01), whereas CP (from 8.0 to 5.6) and ME (from 7.7 to 5.2, MJ/sheep/day) reduced linearly (P<0.01), as L. latisiliquum increased in the diet. Apparent digestibility of DM (from 0.486 to 0.445), OM (from 0.511 to 0.458) and CP (from 0.417 to 0.198) decreased linearly (P<0.01) and was associated with a low ruminal in situ CP degradability of L. latisiliquum. The decrease in N intake and digestibility induced lower (P<0.01) N retention (from 2.7 to 0.1 g/sheep/day). Although the incremental substitution of B. alicastrum with L. latisiliquum negatively affected intake, rumen degradation, digestibility and N balance, results indicate that this foliage mixture, but with no more than 132 g DM/kg diet of L. latisiliquum, could be used as a supplementation strategy to sheep fed low quality forage without negative effects on voluntary intake.  相似文献
