Despite the intensive use of the Leptopilina genus and its drosophilid hosts as model systems in the study of host–parasitoid interactions, the diversity and distribution of the species occurring in the Asian region remain elusive. Here we report the phylogeny of Japanese Leptopilina species attacking frugivorous drosophilid flies, based on COI, ITS1 and ITS2 sequences. Consistent with molecular data, hybridization experiments and morphological examination, five species were recorded in Japan: Leptopilina heterotoma, L. victoriae and three new species, two occurring in the Ryukyu archipelago, L. ryukyuensis and L. pacifica, and another species, L. japonica, distributed in Honshu and Hokkaido. Leptopilina japonica is further divided into two subspecies, L. j. japonica occurring in Japan, and L. j. formosana occurring in Taiwan. According to these results, we discuss the evolution, speciation and colonization history of Japanese Leptopilina species.  相似文献

Four new species of the ostracod genus Gomphocythere are described from Lake Tanganyika (East Africa): Gomphocythere downingi n. sp. G. coheni n. sp., G. wilsoni n. sp., and G. woutersi n. sp. All species are endemic to the lake and are found within a variety of substrates and depths. The addition of these four new species brings the total number of endemic Gomphocythere species in Lake Tanganyika to nine. Other Gomphocythere species are known from water bodies throughout East and South Africa and in the Levant. Brooding is an important, but not a unique, preadaptation for the persistence and taxic prolific speciation of this lineage in Lake Tanganyika.  相似文献

Two populations of Epistylis wuhanensis n. sp., a new freshwater peritrich ciliate, were isolated from different freshwater ponds located in Hubei, China. Their morphological characteristics were investigated using live observation, protargol impregnation, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Specimens from the two populations showed identical arrangement of the infraciliature and identical small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene and ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2 sequences. The zooids present bell‐shaped and 90–175 × 27–54 μm in vivo. Macronucleus is variable in shape and located in the middle of cell. Pellicle is usually smooth with 139–154 and 97–105 striations above and below the trochal band, respectively. SSU rRNA gene and ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2 sequences of E. wuhanensis n. sp. did not match any available sequences in GenBank. Phylogenetically, E. wuhanensis n. sp. clusters with the other Epistylis within the family Epistylididae, but is distinct from the major clades of Epistylis. Above all, the morphological characteristics and molecular analyses support that the present Epistylis is a new species. Expanded phylogenetic analyses of sessilids based on both SSU rRNA gene sequences and ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2 sequences reveal that the genus Epistylis consists of Epistylis morphospecies and taxonomic revision of the genus is needed.  相似文献

New genus Doryctoproctus n. gen. (type species D. africanus n. sp.) from South Africa, and new subgenus of the genus Pedinotus Szépligeti (Eopedinotus n. subgen. Thirty-three collections of Leotia were used to investigate inter-and infra-specific relationships in the genus. Collections were obtained from various parts of the world and represent the ascomatal color forms typical in species of the genus. The ITS rDNA and a variable region of the RNA polymerase II (RPB2) gene were sequenced and analyzed using parsimony and maximum likelihood methods. Although ITS and RPB2 tree topologies differed in regard to the position of two clades of L. lubrica and L. atrovirens, no significant conflict between ITS and RPB2 data or trees was found as determined by the partition homogeneity test. RPB2 sequences in general gave results comparable to ITS; the RPB2 sequences were more easily aligned. Phylogenetic analysis of the sequence data indicates that L. viscosa, L. lubrica and L. atrovirens are polyphyletic species. This suggests that ascomatal color in fresh specimens is not a reliable character alone for determining species in this group. Four major well-supported groups were found; these do not fully correspond to the commonly recognized species. Stipe color, in both fresh and dry condition, seems to correlate with the major recognized groups but features of the ascospores, asci and paraphyses prove too variable to be informative. The most basal group of Leotia species, identified as L. atrovirens, differ from all others by having stipes without gel tissue in their outer layers.  相似文献

A high diversity of pleurostomatid ciliates has been discovered in the last decade, and their systematics needs to be improved in the light of new findings concerning their morphology and molecular phylogeny. In this work, a new genus, Protolitonotus gen. n., and two new species, Protolitonotus magnus sp. n. and Protolitonotus longus sp. n., were studied. Furthermore, 19 novel nucleotide sequences of SSU rDNA, LSU rDNA and ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2 were collected to determine the phylogenetic relationships and systematic positions of the pleurostomatid ciliates in this study. Based on both molecular and morphological data, the results demonstrated that: (i) as disclosed by the sequence analysis of SSU rDNA, LSU rDNA and ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2, Protolitonotus gen. n. is sister to all other pleurostomatids and thus represents an independent lineage and a separate family, Protolitonotidae fam. n., which is defined by the presence of a semi‐suture formed by the right somatic kineties near the dorsal margin of the body; (ii) the families Litonotidae and Kentrophyllidae are both monophyletic based on both SSU rDNA and LSU rDNA sequences, whereas Amphileptidae are non‐monophyletic in trees inferred from SSU rDNA sequences; and (iii) the genera Loxophyllum and Kentrophyllum are both monophyletic, whereas Litonotus is non‐monophyletic based on SSU rDNA analyses. ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2 sequence data were used for the phylogenetic analyses of pleurostomatids for the first time; however, species relationships were less well resolved than in the SSU rDNA and LSU rDNA trees. In addition, a major revision to the classification of the order Pleurostomatida is suggested and a key to its families and genera is provided.  相似文献

A verticillium-like fungus forming a whitish colony and mainly solitary phialides that produced fusiform to cylindrical conidia in chains was isolated from uredinia of Phakopsora pachyrhizi, a causal agent of soybean rust. In addition, two similar looking isolates were obtained from Prostigmata mites. Our taxonomic study based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis using ITS rDNA and LSU rDNA D1/D2 region sequences revealed that the three isolates were the same species and assigned to the genus Leptobacillium. These isolates represent a new species, morphologically and phylogenetically distinguished from the type species, L. leptobactrum, and we propose L. symbioticum sp. nov. In addition, Simplicillium chinense and S. coffeanum are assigned to the genus Leptobacillium.  相似文献

Four yeast strains (APSS 805, APSS 806, APSS 815 and AP-18) belonging to a novel Torulaspora species were isolated from coal mine soils of Singareni in Andhra Pradesh state, India. Another strain (PBA-22) was isolated from agricultural field soil from Gujarat state, India. The vegetative cells of all these strains were round, haploid and produced asci by conjugation between independent cells or mother cell and bud, with rough ascospores, suggesting their possible relation to ascomycetous yeast genus Torulaspora. Phylogenetic analysis of the D1/D2 domain of the large subunit (LSU) rRNA gene and Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) regions revealed that, among the five strains, three viz. APSS 805, APSS 806 and APSS 815 have identical sequences. The other two strains (AP-18 and PBA-22) differed from the other three strains in less than 1% nucleotide substitutions in the combined D1/D2 domain and ITS sequences, indicating that all of them (five strains) may belong to the same species. These five strains were closely related to Torulaspora globosa, but showed more than 3–7% sequence divergence from T. globosa and all other species in the genus Torulaspora in the combined sequence analysis of D1/D2 domain and ITS region of rRNA gene. In addition, these strains also showed distinct microsatellite finger-printing pattern from related species and differed in several physiological responses suggesting that these strains belong to a novel species of Torulaspora. We propose to name these strains as Torulaspora indica sp. nov., and designate APSS 805T = MTCC 9772 T = CBS 12408 T as the type strain of this novel species. Euathlus

Ausserer, 1875 is a South American genus of spiders of the family Theraphosidae known from Chile and Argentina. Three new species from Argentina: Euathlus mauryi sp. n. (from San Juan province), Euathlus grismadoi sp. n. (from La Rioja province), and Euathlus pampa sp. n. (from Salta province) are described here. New records of the previous species Euathlus diamante and Euathlus tenebrarum are contributed. The distribution of these new species expands the geographical distribution of the genus along the Andean hills, with Salta province as the northernmost record of the genus. A key is provided for identification of Euathlus species as well as a map with all the records in Argentina.  相似文献

A rare find of the elusive genus Vanbenedenia off the south-eastern coast of South Africa on a Hydrolagus sp. proved to be an as yet undescribed species. Vanbenedenia hydrolagae n. sp. differs from the three other species of the genus by virtue of the relative length of the second maxillae, the absence of multiple setae on the exopod of the first maxilla and the bifid nature of the sclerotised hook and sub-terminal seta of the maxilliped. The phylogenetic relationship among Geosmithia argillacea, Talaromyces emersonii, Talaromyces byssochlamydoides and other members of the Trichocomaceae was studied using partial RPB2 (RNA polymerase II gene, encoding the second largest protein subunit), Tsr1 (putative ribosome biogenesis protein) and Cct8 (putative chaperonin complex component TCP-1) gene sequences. The results showed that these species form a distinct clade within the Trichocomaceae and Trichocoma paradoxa is phylogenetically most closely related. Based on phenotypic and physiological characters and molecular data, we propose Rasamsonia gen. nov. to accommodate these species. This new genus is distinct from other genera of the Trichocomaceae in being thermotolerant or thermophilic and having conidiophores with distinctly rough walled stipes, olive-brown conidia and ascomata, if present, with a scanty covering. Species within the genus Rasamsonia were distinguished using a combination of phenotypic characters, extrolite patterns, ITS and partial calmodulin and β-tubulin sequences. Rasamsonia brevistipitata sp. nov. is described and five new combinations are proposed.  相似文献

Sclerocypris dayae n.sp., S. dedeckkeri n.sp., S. dumonti n.sp., S. zelaznyi n.sp. and S. zelaznyi etoshensis n.ssp. are described from South — West Africa (Namibia). S. exserta makarikarensis n.ssp. originates from the endorheic pan system Makarikari in Botswana. S. woutersi n.sp. was described from Lake Albert where it is quite common. S. virungensis n.sp. is known from the Virunga National Park, south of Lake Edward (Zaire). The latter two species are closely related and from part of the flabella-species group. ABSTRACT

By employing comparative morphology and anatomy as well as mitochondrial phylogenetics, we have identified three species of Landouria Godwin-Austen, 1918 in Timor-Leste. One of these species is identified as L. cf winteriana (Pfeiffer, 1842), a species originally described from Java, but considered widespread throughout the Indonesian archipelago. The two other species are newly described as L. timorensis n. sp. and L. montana n. sp., respectively. Landouria timorensis n. sp. is similar to L. winteriana, but differs by a smaller shell and details of its penial morphology. Landouria montana n. sp. is only found at higher altitudes and is readily distinguishable by its distinctive shell. A mitochondrial phylogeny reveals L. omphalostoma from Yunnan as the sister lineage of all Sunda Islands species. Based on this observation, we maintain the systematic placement of the Sunda Islands species in Landouria despite some minor differences in their genital anatomy. Furthermore, our phylogeny demonstrates that the East Asian genus Aegista Albers, 1850 is the probable sister taxon of Landouria. However, we reject the proposal by Hirano et al. ([2014] Substantial incongruence among the morphology, taxonomy, and molecular phylogeny of the land snails Aegista, Landouria, Trishoplita, and Pseudobuliminus (Pulmonata: Bradybaenidae) occurring in East Asia. Five species are described from fishes in deep waters of the northwestern Atlantic Ocean: Lepidapedon gaevskayae n. sp. from Coryphaenoides (Nematonurus) armatus; L. merretti n. sp. from Phycis chesteri; L. zubchenkoi n. sp. from Coryphaenoides (Chalinura) leptolepis; L. beveridgei n. sp. from C. (N.) armatus; and Lepidapedon sp. innom. from Antimora rostrata. The genus Lepidapedon is discussed and divided into groups of species distinguished by the vitelline distribution and the extent of excretory vesicle. The new species are placed in their appropriate groups and differentiated from the other species in the group.  相似文献

Three new species of the family Bucephalidae Poche, 1907 (Trematoda: Digenea) are described from the yellowtail pike, Sphyraena obtusata Cuvier (Sphyraenidae), from Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. The three species are morphologically consistent with the present broad concept of the genus Bucephalus Baer, 1827, but significant phylogenetic and ecological differences relative to the type-species of Bucephalus require the proposal of a new genus. Aenigmatrema n. g. is proposed for A. undecimtentaculatum n. sp. (type-species), A. inopinatum n. sp. and A. grandiovum n. sp. In addition, based on morphological, ecological and biogeographical similarities, we recombine two existing species of Bucephalus as Aenigmatrema kaku (Yamaguti, 1970) n. comb. and Aenigmatrema sphyraenae (Yamaguti, 1952) n. comb. Although the three species described in this study are extremely morphologically similar, they can be differentiated from each other, and from A. kaku and A. sphyraenae, morphometrically on the basis of egg size, tentacle number and a combination of the caecum and vitelline field lengths. Complete ITS2 rDNA, partial 28S rDNA and partial cox1 mtDNA sequence data were generated for the three new species, which formed a well-supported clade in all 28S phylogenetic analyses. An expanded phylogenetic tree for the subfamily Bucephalinae Poche, 1907 is presented, demonstrating unresolved issues with the morphology-based taxonomy of the subfamily. The three largest genera, Bucephalus, Rhipidocotyle Diesing, 1858 and Prosorhynchoides Dollfus, 1929 remain extensively polyphyletic, indicating the need for significant further systematic revision.

The Quadrifoliovariinae is revised and three new species of Quadrifoliovarium Yamaguit, 1965 from acanthurid fishes of the genus Naso from waters of the Indo-Pacific are described: Q, maceria n. sp. from N.␣tonganus, N. annulatus, N. fageni and N. brevirostris; Q. simplex n. sp. from N. tonganus and N.␣annulatus; and Q. quattuordecim n. sp. from N. tonganus. Amendments are made to the characterisation of the Quadrifoliovariinae, Quadrifoliovarium, Bilacinia Manter, 1969 and Unilacinia Manter, 1969 in light of observations on type and new material. A molecular phylogeny based on ITS2 and 28S regions of the ribosomal DNA is proposed. The phylogeny suggests that U. asymmetrica is the most basal taxon and Q.␣simplex n. sp. and Q. quattuordecim n. sp. the most derived. Evolution of morphological traits within the Quadrifoliovariinae are discussed in light of the molecular phylogeny. Molecular sequences of the ITS2 rDNA were identical between specimens of Q. pritchardae collected off Exmouth (Indian Ocean), Heron Island and Lizard Island (Western Pacific) and Moorea (far Eastern Indo-Pacific), indicating a broad Indo-Pacific distribution. All members of the subfamily are recorded only from the acanthurid genus Naso, with the exception of B. lobatum (Yamaguti, 1970), which has been recorded from a pomacanthid. The restricted host range of the group is discussed in the light of the phylogeny of the host genus Naso.  相似文献

The genus Gyrodactylus von Nordmann, 1832 is one of the most diverse within the class Monogenea; it contains mainly parasites of freshwater and marine teleost fishes. Around 40 species of Gyrodactylus have been described from gobiid fishes; mainly in Europe, as only two species are known from the Americas. In this study, we describe three new gyrodactylids from the body surface and fins of the goby Sicydium salvini (Gobiidae, Sycydiinae), which has a wide distribution on the Pacific coast, from Mexico to Panama. We describe Gyrodactylus oaxacae n. sp., G. atoyacensis n. sp. and G. salvini n. sp. collected from rivers draining to the eastern Pacific in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Morphologically, G. atoyacensis n. sp. and G. salvini n. sp. are very similar, and both are easily differentiated from G. oaxacae n. sp. Phylogenetic hypotheses based on sequences of the Internal Transcribed Spacers (ITS1–5.8S-ITS2 rDNA) and the D2 + D3 domains of the large ribosomal subunit (28S rDNA) support the erection of the three new taxa; and suggest that G. atoyacensis n. sp. and G. salvini n. sp. are sister species. These gyrodactylids are the first monogeneans described from gobies of the genus Sicydium in Mexico.  相似文献
