Attempts are described to 'normalize' germfree mice by association with 3, 21 and 71 different intestinal bacterial cultures isolated from mice with an SPF flora. Germfree mice associated naturally with an SPF flora served as controls. Vital bacterial counts were determined by aerobic and anaerobic culture. Stomach and small intestine contained fewer bacteria per gram than caecum and large intestine. Aerobic vital counts from caecum and large intestine were higher in the experimental groups than in control mice. The aerobic and anaerobic flora in stomach and small intestine comprised mainly Gram-positive non-fusiform shaped rods. In the caecum and colon Gram-positive cocci predominated in the aerobic culture while in the anaerobic culture fusiform-shaped rods were prominent. Scanning electron microscopy of oesophagus, ileum, caecum and faeces demonstrated colonization of the oesophageal epithelium only after association with 71 bacterial strains; the filamentous bacteria present in the ileum of SPF mice were not found in the experimental groups and caecum and faeces contained mainly fusiform-shaped bacteria. Non-bacterial matter decreased in the caecum and faeces with increase in the complexity of the flora.  相似文献

The morphology of the gastrointestinal tract (GI) is a strong indicator of the dietary habits of a species. The goal of this study was to describe the gross and microanatomy of the digestive tract of the neo-tropical opossum (Didelphis marsupialis insularis) and relate them to the animals’ food habits. GI tracts from 12 adult animals were used for this study. Results found the small intestine made up 65.9% of the GI tract, and the stomach was simple with a prominent caecum. Histologically, the oesophageal mucosa was non-keratinized and glands were found throughout the oesophagus. The large intestine showed a great number of goblet cells, the jejunum possessed well-developed villi, and Peyer's patches were absent in the ileum. The absence of keratinization of the epithelial lining of the oesophagus and stomach and a high lymphocytic infiltration throughout the small and large intestine reflected a more carnivorous diet, whereas the presence of a well-developed caecum in the large intestine indicated the ability to digest plant matter. Overall, the morphology of GI tract of D. m. insularis displayed both carnivorous and herbivorous features, allowing us to conclude that it is an omnivorous animal.  相似文献

The composition of faecal flora of NC mice was compared with that of CF #1 mice. NC- and CF #1-germfree (GF) mice were cage-mated with NC- or CF #1-conventional (CV) mice in an isolator. The faecal flora of these ex-GF mice was dependent on the recipient mouse strain modifying colonization by the donor mouse bacteria. Although NC- and CF #1-pups removed by hysterectomy were fostered to different strains, almost all these mice at 8 weeks old had a strain characteristic pattern of faecal flora regardless of the foster strains. In GF mice mono-associated with a Lactobacillus strain or a Bifidobacterium strain isolated from faeces of CV mice, the numbers of these bacteria in the stomach and small intestine of NC mice were lower than those of CF #1 mice. In GF mice associated with chloroform-treated faeces of CV mice, and a Lactobacillus strain or a Bifidobacterium strain, the numbers of these bacteria in the stomach and all parts of the intestine of NC mice were considerably lower than those of CF #1 mice. These results suggested that the composition of faecal flora of NC mice were characteristic, i.e. the fact that the numbers of lactobacilli were low compared with CF #1 mice with ordinary faecal flora and the colonization of bifidobacteria, peptococcaceae and eubacteria on ES agar in NC mice intestine differed, was due to genetic factors.  相似文献

Keeping mammalian gastrointestinal (GI) tract communities in balance is crucial for host health maintenance. However, our understanding of microbial communities in the GI tract is still very limited. In this study, samples taken from the GI tracts of C57BL/6 mice were subjected to 16S rRNA gene sequence-based analysis to examine the characteristic bacterial communities along the mouse GI tract, including those present in the stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, colon and feces. Further analyses of the 283,234 valid sequences obtained from pyrosequencing revealed that the gastric, duodenal, large intestinal and fecal samples had higher phylogenetic diversity than the jejunum and ileum samples did. The microbial communities found in the small intestine and stomach were different from those seen in the large intestine and fecal samples. A greater proportion of Lactobacillaceae were found in the stomach and small intestine, while a larger proportion of anaerobes such as Bacteroidaceae, Prevotellaceae, Rikenellaceae, Lachnospiraceae, and Ruminococcaceae were found in the large intestine and feces. In addition, inter-mouse variations of microbiota were observed between the large intestinal and fecal samples, which were much smaller than those between the gastric and small intestinal samples. As far as we can ascertain, ours is the first study to systematically characterize bacterial communities from the GI tracts of C57BL/6 mice.  相似文献

Aims: To determine if orally ingested Bacillus spores used as probiotics or direct‐fed microbial feed additives germinate and the vegetative cells grow in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Methods and Results: Three independent experiments were done to determine if spores of Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus subtilis germinate and grow in the GI tract of pigs. After a 2 weeks spore‐feeding period, spores were detected in all segments of the GI tract. The lowest number of spores was found in the stomach, increasing in the small intestine to approx. 55% of the dietary inclusion. When spores were withdrawn from the feed, faecal excretion of spores reflected the dietary inclusion, but decreased gradually to the background level after 1 week. By containing spores in short, sealed pieces of dialysis membrane that were orally administered to the pigs, both the number of spores and vegetative cells could be determined by flow cytometry. Spores accounted for 72% of the total counts after 4–6 h in the stomach and proximal part of the small intestine. After 24 h, spores constituted only 12% of the total counts in the stomach, caecum, and mid‐colon. Less spores and more vegetative cells were detected after 24 h, but total counts increased only 2·14‐fold compared to time zero. Conclusions: The experiments showed that 70–90% of dietary‐supplemented Bacillus spores germinate in the proximal part of the pig GI tract, and that only limited outgrowth of the vegetative cell population occurs. The two Bacillus strains can temporarily remain in the GI system, but will be unable to permanently colonize the GI tract. Significance and Impact of the Study: A substantial population of growing vegetative cells in the GI tract is not a prerequisite for the mode of action of Bacillus feed additives and probiotics.  相似文献

为探讨栖息于昆明禄劝地区中缅树鼩(Tupaia belangeri)的消化道特征与环境之间的适应关系,在2008年6月和12月(夏季和冬季)分别对自然环境中缅树鼩的胃、小肠、大肠、盲肠的长度、含内容物重、去内容物重、干组织重等消化道指标进行了测定。结果表明,中缅树鼩消化道特征冬季和夏季存在变化,随着温度降低、食物质量下降,中缅树鼩的小肠长度和重量增加;各器官重量均在冬季最大;中缅树鼩在受到低温、食物质量下降等因子胁迫下,通过调节消化道长度和重量来满足能量需求的增加,维持正常的生理机能。中缅树鼩的消化道在冬季和夏季中表现出的变化模式及消化对策对其在自然环境中的生存是至关重要的。  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of the mixture of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. rhamnosus strain GG, Bifidobacterium lactis Bb12, and inulin on intestinal populations of lactobacilli, bifidobacteria, and enterobacteria in adult and elderly rats fed the same (in quality and quantity) diet. The portal plasma levels of two neuropeptides, neuropeptide Y (NPY) and peptide YY (PYY), were also evaluated to assess the physiological consequences of the synbiotic treatment for the gastrointestinal (GI) tracts of rats of different ages. Adult (n = 24) and elderly (n = 24) male rats were fed the AIN-93 M maintenance diet. After 2 weeks of adaptation, the diet of 12 rats of each age group was supplemented with 8% inulin and with strains GG and Bb12 to provide 2.2 x 10(9) CFU of each strain g(-1) of the diet. Blood and different regions of the GI tract were sampled from all rats after 21 days of the treatment. Treatment with the mixture of strain GG, strain BB12, and inulin induced significantly different changes in the numbers of lactobacilli, bifidobacteria, and enterobacteria of the stomach, small intestine, cecum, and colon microflora. Moreover, the GG, BB12, and inulin mixture increased the concentrations of NPY and PYY for adult rats. For the elderly animals, the PYY concentration was not changed, while the NPY concentration was decreased by treatment with the GG, BB12, and inulin mixture. The results of the present study indicate that the physiological status of the GI tract, and not just diet, has a major role in the regulation of important groups of the GI bacteria community, since even the outcome of the dietary modification with synbiotics depends on the ages of the animals.  相似文献

Glutathione S-transferase (GST) protein in gastrointestinal (GI) tracts of 16 organ donors, from whom all or substantial portions of the GI tract (stomach-colon) were available, was quantitated by HPLC and examined for interindividual variability/consistency of organ-specific patterns of expression. GSTP1, GSTA1, and GSTA2 were major components, and GSTM1 and GSTM3 were minor components. Consistent patterns of organ-specific expression were evident despite a high degree of interindividual variation of expression. GSTP1 was expressed throughout the GI tract and showed a decrease of expression from stomach to colon. GSTA1 and GSTA2 were expressed at high levels in duodenum and small intestine and expression decreased from proximal to distal small intestine. In contrast, GSTA1 and GSTA2 expression in colon and stomach of all subjects was low, particularly for colon where GSTA1 expression was 20- to 800-fold lower than that in corresponding small intestine. These consistent patterns of expression would suggest that compared to duodenum and small intestine, colon and to a lesser extent stomach always have low potential for GST-dependent detoxification of chemical carcinogens and are therefore at greater risk of genotoxic effects, particularly via substrates that are specific for GSTA1. This may be a factor in the greater susceptibility of stomach and colon to cancers compared to duodenum/small intestine.  相似文献

The gastrointestinal tracts of 76 free-living alpine marmots ( Marmota marmota) shot during a population control program in Switzerland were collected and analysed for patterns of change in morphology and function over the period from emergence from hibernation in April to just before re-entry into hibernation in September. Between first emergence and mid-summer (July) the fresh tissue mass of the stomach increased by 105%, the small intestine by 259% (among the largest recorded for a mammal), caecum by 185%, proximal colon by 138%, and distal colon by 144%. Mitotic activity was greatest in the small intestine; the mitotic index was high (40%) compared with indexes in the stomach and hindgut (approximately 4%) even at emergence, and increased to approximately 60% by mid-summer. Microbial activity in the caecum was also significant at emergence. The stomach (length) and caecum (length and fresh mass) increased in response to ingested food earlier than did the small intestine. Between mid-summer and September there were decreases in small intestinal tissue mass and mitotic activity. It is concluded that the gastrointestinal tract of alpine marmots probably continues to function throughout hibernation at a low level, with a mid-winter trough as part of an endogenous circannual rhythm. However, after emergence in spring, increases in size and activity of the tract appear to be a response to ingested food rather than to an endogenous signal. The early signs of down-regulation of the small intestine before re-entry into hibernation, together with its delayed up-regulation in response to food in spring, are consistent with the high costs of maintaining this section of the digestive system.  相似文献

为探讨禁食和重喂食对栖息于横断山地区大绒鼠(Eothenomys miletus)消化道形态的影响,对禁食和重喂食条件下大绒鼠消化道各项指标进行了测定.实验分别测定了大绒鼠禁食12h、24 h、36 h和重喂食12 h、48 h、7d后的总消化道、胃、小肠、大肠、盲肠的长度及其含内容物重、去内容物重、干重.结果表明:禁食后,总消化道含内容物重、胃含内容物重和胃去内容物重增加,重喂食7d后均恢复到对照组水平.小肠含内容物重在禁食12h时最大,在重喂食12h时最小,重喂食48 h后恢复到对照组水平.禁食和重喂食条件下,大绒鼠的大肠和盲肠各指标均没有显著变化.以上结果表明,大绒鼠在食物受到限制、饥饿等胁迫因子作用下,可能通过调节消化道形态来满足部分能量需求,维持正常的生理机能.大绒鼠的消化道在禁食和重喂食中表现出的变化模式,可能与其食物资源时常波动的野外生存环境有关,从一方面反映了该物种在食物胁迫下的生存机制和适应对策.  相似文献

The non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs, such as an indomethacin (IND), cause mucosal ulceration and increase the mucosal vascular permeability in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Some exogenous agents, e.g. the atropine, can protect the GI mucosa against these ulcerogenic effects. The gastrointestinal functions and mucosal protection, however, are regulated by the vagal nerve. The aims of this study was to examine the dependence of atropine-induced GI cytoprotection to the vagal innervation against the development of IND-caused ulcers and microvascular damage in the mucosa of stomach and small intestine in rats. METHODS: the observations were carried out on CFY-strain rats. The mucosal damage was produced by subcutaneous administration of IND in a 20 mg/kg dose 24 h prior to the killing of animals at the same time as the start of atropine-application, which was given in a small dose (0.1 mg/kg) every 5 h. The subdiaphragmatic bilateral surgical vagotomy was done 24 h before the experiment. The vascular permeability, indicated by the microvascular endothel damage, was measured by the appearance and concentration of intravenously administered Evans blue into the GI mucosa. The number and severity of mucosal lesions and the Evans blue content of mucosa were determined in the stomach and small intestine. RESULTS: (1) The IND caused mucosal ulcers and Evans blue extravasation into the mucosa of the stomach and small intestine. (2) The IND-induced mucosal ulceration and vascular permeability significantly decreased after atropine-administration in the same parts of GI tract. (3) The extent of cytoprotective effect of atropine against the IND was decreased after bilateral surgical vagotomy. CONCLUSIONS: (1) The IND causes microvascular endothel damage in the stomach and small intestinal. (2) The atropine has a cytoprotective effect in the stomach and small intestine against the aggressive effects of IND without decrease of gastric acid secretion. (3) The intact vagal nerve is necessary to the function of cytoprotective mechanisms of atropine against the IND.  相似文献

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic heavy metal that poses a threat to the health of humans and animals. It can cause serious damage to the small intestine, which is the main absorption site of Cd and the primary target organ after oral administration. Our previous study found that zinc chelate of hydroxy analogue of methionine (Zn-HMTB), a new type of feed additive, decreased Cd accumulation in the liver and kidneys. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Zn-HMTB on Cd absorption and Cd-induced toxicity in the small intestine of piglets. Twenty-four piglets (Landrace × Large White, 13.22 ± 0.58 kg BW) were randomly divided into four dietary treatment groups: basal diet, and diets containing 30 mg/kg Cd from CdCl2 and 0, 100 or 200 mg/kg Zn from Zn-HMTB. The experiment lasted 27 days. The feed intake and final BW of each piglet were recorded at the end of the experiment. Gastrointestinal (GI) tract tissue and samples of liver, kidney, spleen, heart, lung and longissimus muscle tissue and faeces were collected. The concentrations of Cd and metal trace elements in the GI tract and organs were analysed, as was the relative messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of inflammatory cytokines and metal element transporters in the small intestine, and epithelial apoptosis in the small intestine. The results showed that, compared with Cd-treated piglets, piglets in the Zn-HMTB and Cd cotreatment groups had less Cd deposition in the stomach, ileum, caecum, colon, liver, kidneys, spleen, lungs, heart and muscles (P < 0.05), and lower Cd concentrations in faeces (P < 0.05), suggesting that Zn-HMTB increased Cd absorption and the excretion of Cd in other forms (possibly urine). Zinc chelate of hydroxy analogue of methionine increased Zn deposition in the jejunum and the relative mRNA expression of divalent metal transporters 1 and zinc transporter 5 in the duodenum (P < 0.05), indicating that Zn-HMTB may promote the absorption and transportation of Cd and Zn together by upregulating metal element transporters. Competition between Zn and Cd may be responsible for accelerating Cd excretion. Furthermore, Zn-HMTB reduced Cd-induced apoptosis of enterocytes and inflammatory stimuli in the small intestine, suggesting that Zn-HMTB reduced Cd-induced toxicity to the small intestine. These results suggest that Zn-HMTB can be helpful in decreasing Cd accumulation in the GI tract and organs of piglets and relieving Cd-induced toxicity to the small intestine but cannot reduce the absorption of Cd.  相似文献

Melioidosis is a disease of humans caused by opportunistic infection with the soil and water bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei. Melioidosis can manifest as an acute, overwhelming infection or as a chronic, recurrent infection. At present, it is not clear where B. pseudomallei resides in the mammalian host during the chronic, recurrent phase of infection. To address this question, we developed a mouse low-dose mucosal challenge model of chronic B. pseudomallei infection and investigated sites of bacterial persistence over 60 days. Sensitive culture techniques and selective media were used to quantitate bacterial burden in major organs, including the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. We found that the GI tract was the primary site of bacterial persistence during the chronic infection phase, and was the only site from which the organism could be consistently cultured during a 60-day infection period. The organism could be repeatedly recovered from all levels of the GI tract, and chronic infection was accompanied by sustained low-level fecal shedding. The stomach was identified as the primary site of GI colonization as determined by fluorescent in situ hybridization. Organisms in the stomach were associated with the gastric mucosal surface, and the propensity to colonize the gastric mucosa was observed with 4 different B. pseudomallei isolates. In contrast, B. pseudomallei organisms were present at low numbers within luminal contents in the small and large intestine and cecum relative to the stomach. Notably, inflammatory lesions were not detected in any GI tissue examined in chronically-infected mice. Only low-dose oral or intranasal inoculation led to GI colonization and development of chronic infection of the spleen and liver. Thus, we concluded that in a mouse model of melioidosis B. pseudomallei preferentially colonizes the stomach following oral inoculation, and that the chronically colonized GI tract likely serves as a reservoir for dissemination of infection to extra-intestinal sites.  相似文献

Bats have a very high mass-specific energy demand due to small size and active flight. European bat species are mostly insectivorous and the morphology of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract should be adapted accordingly. This study investigated the general anatomy by histology and the function by analysing carbohydrate distribution in particular of the mucus of the GI tract of the insectivorous bat Pipistrellus pipistrellus. The GI tracts of three individuals were dissected, fixed in formaldehyde, and embedded in paraffin wax. The tissues and cells of the GI tract of P. pipistrellus were analysed by classical (acid alizarin blue, haematoxylin-eosin, and Masson Goldner Trichrome), histochemical (periodic acid-Schiff, Alcian blue at pH 2.5) and lectin histochemical (lectins WGA and HPA) staining procedures. The GI tract of P. pipistrellus is organised into the typical mammalian layers. The short, narrow, and thin-walled esophagus is simple with a folded stratified squamous epithelium without glands but mucous surface cells secreting neutral mucus. The stomach is globular shaped without specialisation. Mucous surface cells produced neutral mucus whereas neck and parietal cells secreted a mixture of neutral and acid mucus. Chief cell surface was positive for N-acetylglucosamine and the cytoplasm for N-acetylgalactosamine residues. The intestine lacked a caecum and appendix. The small intestine was divided into duodenum, jejunum-ileum and ileum-colon. The epithelium consisted of columnar enterocytes and goblet cells. The large intestine is short, only represented by the descending colon-rectum. It lacked villi and the mucosa had only crypts of Lieberkühn. Towards the colon-rectum, goblet cells produced mucus with N-acetylglucosamine residues increasing in acidity except in colon-rectum where acidity was highest in the base of crypts. Along the tube the surface of enterocytes was positive for N-acetylglucosamine and N-acetylgalactosamine. All over the mucus filling the lumen of the GI tract was positive for N-acetylglucosamine and increased in acidity in all parts except of the stomach.In conclusion, the simple GI tract showed an anatomical reduction of tissue enabling for a short retention time and a reduction of the load carried during flight: short GI tract, lack of lymphoid tissue, missing of glands in certain regions, and a distinct pattern of mucus distribution, indicating different physiological functions of these areas. The effect of different weaning ages, that is, 21 (G21), 28 (G28) or 35 (G35) days, on growth and certain parameters of the digestive tract was examined in rabbits to assess the risk of early weaning attributable to the less-developed digestive system. On days 35 and 42, G35 rabbits had 10% to 14% and 10% higher BW, respectively (P < 0.05), than those weaned at days 21 and 28. In the 4th week of life, early weaned animals had 75% higher feed intake than G28 and G35 rabbits (P < 0.05). The relative weight of the liver increased by 62% between 21 and 28 days of age, and thereafter it decreased by 76% between 35 and 42 days of age (P < 0.05), with G21 rabbits having 29% higher weight compared with G35 animals on day 35 (P < 0.05). The relative weight of the whole gastrointestinal (GI) tract increased by 49% and 22% after weaning in G21 and G28 rabbits, respectively (P < 0.05). On day 28, the relative weight of the GI tract was 19% higher in G21 than in G28 rabbits, whereas on day 35 G21 and G28 animals had a 12% heavier GI tract compared with G35 rabbits (P < 0.05). Age influenced the ratio of stomach, small intestine and caecum within the GI tract; however, no effect of different weaning age was demonstrated. The pH value of the stomach and caecum decreased from 5.7 to 1.6 and from 7.1 to 6.3, respectively, whereas that of the small intestine increased from 6.8 to 8.4 (P < 0.05); the differences between groups were not statistically significant. Strictly anaerobic culturable bacteria were present in the caecum in high amounts (108), already at 14 days of age; no significant difference attributable to weaning age was demonstrable. The concentration of total volatile fatty acids (tVFA) was higher in G21 than in G28 and G35 throughout the experimental period (P < 0.05). The proportion of acetic and butyric acid within tVFA increased, whereas that of propionic acid decreased, resulting in a C3 : C4 ratio decreasing with age. Early weaning (G21) resulted in higher butyric acid and lower propionic acid proportions on day 28 (P < 0.05). No interaction between age and treatment was found, except in relative weight of the GI tract and caecal content. In conclusion, early weaning did not cause considerable changes in the digestive physiological parameters measured, but it resulted in 10% lower growth in rabbits.  相似文献

Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis was tested as a method for examining the mineral contents of corn bran loaded in vitro or passed through the GI tract of pigs. Particles of dry-milled corn pericarp treated in vitro or retrieved from the stomach, ileum, and colon of killed pigs were prepared as microtomed bulk specimens directly embedded in resin. Because of heterogeneity caused by differences in substrate cell density and mineral content, X-ray count averages for a number of different specimens had a coefficient of variation greater than or equal to 0.24. Detectable amounts of K, Ca, S, and P, but not Na, Cu, Fe, or Zn were found in specimens of initial bran. Although detectable concentrations of Cu, Fe and Zn could be loaded in vitro, these elements generally were not detected in bran retrieved from the pig GI tract. During GI tract passage, sodium was loaded onto bran mainly in the small intestine and unloaded in the large intestine. Calcium was loaded in the stomach and unloaded mainly in the small intestine. At each GI tract location, content of Na, Ca, K, and P in retrieved bran was greater than in the initial bran. The cytoprotective effect of a small dose of atropine was proved against the indomethacin (IND)-caused gastrointestinal (GI) mucosal damage. This protective effect of atropine disappeared in the acute phase of surgical vagotomy (ASV) on the vagally-innervated parts of GI tract. The aims of our observations were: 1) to examine the effect of chronic surgical vagotomy (CSV) on the cytoprotective action of atropine in the GI tract; and 2) to compare the effects of ASV and CSV on the GI cytoprotection caused by atropine against IND-induced mucosal damage and vascular permeability in rats. The IND was given s.c. 24 h prior to the killing of the animals in a dose of 20 mg x kg(-1). Bilateral surgical vagotomy or sham operation were carried out 24 h (ASV) or 14 d (CSV) before IND-application. Atropine was given i.p. every 5 h after IND-treatment in a dose of 0.1 mg x kg(-1). The number of macroscopical mucosal ulcerations was noted and its severity was calculated by semiquantitative scale in the stomach, small intestine and three equal parts of colon. Vascular permeability was measured by Evans-blue leakage into the mucosal tissue. It has been found that: 1) Tte small dose of atropine significantly decreased the IND-induced mucosal damage and vascular permeability on the stomach, small intestine and the vascular permeability on the proximal colon; 2) the small dose of atropine did not cause any changes in the appearance of IND-induced mucosal lesions and in Evans blue concentration in the mucosa after ASV, but it significantly decreased the IND-caused mucosal damage and Evans blue concentration in the mucosa of stomach, small intestine and proximal colon after CSV; 3) the IND-induced mucosal damage and vascular permeability treated with atropine (given in cytoprotective dose) were significantly smaller after CSV than that after ASV on the stomach, small intestine and proximal colon. It has been concluded that the intact vagal nerve has an essential role in the appearance of cytoprotective mechanisms of atropine in GI tract.  相似文献

Eleven castrated male pigs weighing 88.1 +/- 3.9 kg on average were adapted to a diet containing DON (4.2 mg DON/kg) over a period of 7 days. Feed was given restrictively with 1.1 kg per meal (two meals per day). On the day of measurement, all pigs were slaughtered at different time intervals following the morning meal containing DON (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 15, 18 and 24 h after feeding), with the exception of one pig which was slaughtered unfed. DON and de-epoxy-DON were analysed in serum and digesta from consecutive segments of the digestive tract (stomach, small intestine divided into three parts of a similar length, caecum, colon, rectum). DON was rapidly and nearly completely absorbed while passing through the stomach and the proximal small intestine. Maximum serum concentration appeared 4.1 h after the DON-containing meal and half of the systemically absorbed DON was eliminated after 5.8 h. De-epoxy-DON appeared in increasing proportions from the distal small intestine and reached approximately 80% of the sum of DON plus de-epoxy-DON in faeces collected from the rectum. It was concluded that de-epoxydation of DON, which primarily occurs in the hindgut, probably does not contribute much to a detoxification in the pig.  相似文献
