The concentration and bioavailability of Ni, Cu, Cd, Zn, and Pb in the sediments and leaves of grey mangrove, Avicennia marina, were studied throughout Sirik Azini creek (Iran) with a view to determine heavy metals bioavailability, and two methods were used. Results show that Zn and Ni had the highest concentrations in the sediments, while Cd and Cu were found to have the lowest concentrations in the sediments. Compared to the mean concentrations of heavy metals in sedimentary rock (shales), Zn and Cu showed lower concentration, possibly indicating that the origin of these heavy metals is natural. A geo-accumulation index (I geo) was used to determine the degree of contamination in the sediments. I geo values for Zn, Cu, Pb, and Ni showed that there is no pollution from these metals in the study area. As heavy metal concentrations in leaves were higher than the bioavailable fraction of metals in sediments, it follows that bioconcentration factors (leaf/bioavailable sediment) for some metals were higher than 1.  相似文献

This study evaluates heavy metal removal associated with phytomass management in a Typic Hapludox after three applications of pig slurry. Like humic acids in pig slurry were characterized through physics and chemical spectroscopy technics. Heavy metal levels were determined in ration that was offered to pigs, anaerobically digested pig slurry, and plant tissues from pig slurry-fertilized black oat (Avena strigosa Schreb.) and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) intercrop. Soil contamination was evaluated by the pseudo-total heavy metal levels in six soil layers and the bioavailable levels in the top soil layer. Results indicate that the ration is the origin of heavy metals in the pig slurry. The approximate levels in the ration were as follows (mg kg?1): Cu 23.9, Zn 92.02, 153.15, Mn 30.98, Ni 0.23, Pb 10.75, Cr 0.34, Co 0.08, and Cd 0.05. The approximate levels of these metals in the pig slurry were as follows (mg kg?1): Cu 71.08, Zn 345.67, Fe 83.02, Mn 81.71, Ni 1.13, Pb 4.35, Co 0.28, and Cd 0.16. Like humic acids contained 55% aliphatic chains, 14% oxygenated aliphatic chains, and 15% carboxyls, demonstrating their high capacity for interaction with heavy metals by forming soluble complexes. Soil contamination was indicated by the accumulation of heavy metals in the six soil layers in relation to the applied pig slurry dose (ranged as follows (mg kg?1): Cu 110 to 150, Zn 50 to 120, Ni 20 to 40, and Pb 12 to 16) and as bioavailable forms (levels ranged as follows (mg kg?1): Cu < 1, Zn 1.0–1.5, Ni 0.1–1.5, and Pb 1.9–6.3). The positive correlation between heavy metal accumulation in the plants and soil bioavailable heavy metal levels and the lowest heavy metal levels under higher intensity of phytomass removal demonstrate the ability of phytomass management to reduce soil contamination.  相似文献

The concentrations of nine metals were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry in surface sediments of three coastal creeks, namely, the Ifie, Egbokodo and Ubeji creeks, in the Niger Delta of Nigeria, from August 2012 to January 2013. The aim of the study was to provide information on the spatial and seasonal distribution patterns, degree of contamination, and ecological risks of metals in these sediments. The mean concentrations of the nine metals in these creek sediments ranged from 0.30 to 3.20?mg kg?1 Cd; 10.7 to 24.7?mg kg?1 Pb, 125 to 466?mg kg?1 Cr; 3.1.10 to 14.9?mg kg?1 Cu; 4.7 to 14.3?mg kg?1 Co; 61.1 to 115?mg kg?1 Ni; 106 to 183?mg kg?1 Mn; 52.0 to 170?mg kg?1 Zn and 5 469 to 20 639?mg kg?1 Fe. In general, the metal concentrations were higher in the dry season than the wet season, except for Cr. The concentrations of Cd, Cr, Ni and Zn were above their regulatory control limits in sediment as specified by the Nigerian Regulatory Authority and Cd was identified as the main ecological risk factor. The enrichment factors for the studied metals followed the order: Cd > Cr > Ni > Zn > Pb > Co > Mn > Cu. The average multiple pollution index values indicated that these sediments were severely polluted with significant inputs from Cd, Ni and Cr.  相似文献

Water and intertidal sediment samples were collected from 28 stations along the Thames Estuary, from the tidal limit to the outer estuary. Surveys were conducted in 1997, 1999 and 2001 to assess spatial distributions and short-term variability. Highest concentrations of trace metals in water coincided with high turbidity in the mid-estuarine region, although the particle-associated fraction varied from 22% (As) to 95% (Pb). Theoretical dilution line (TDL) plots showed that dissolved metals were largely derived from a combination of diffuse (sediment desorption) and localised point sources (outfalls, industry). Dissolved Cu and Zn both exceeded environmental quality standard (EQS) levels during the survey period. The majority of sediment metals showed common distributional patterns, with increasing concentrations upstream. This increase was greatest for pollutant metals: Ag, Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb and Zn. Partial extraction of sediment metals with 1 M HCl showed that >50% of Ag, Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn were potentially bioavailable and that the proportion of bioavailable sediment metals also increased upstream. The majority of sediment metal concentrations exceeded Interim Sediment Quality Guideline threshold effects levels (TELs) over much of the estuary. Sediment concentrations of Cu, Hg, Pb and Zn also exceeded probable effects levels (PELs) at many estuarine sites. Despite improvements in recent years, the Thames Estuary remains chronically contaminated with a range of metals.  相似文献

Abstract

Distribution of possible chemical forms of Al, Si, Sn, Pb, Zn, Fe, Hg, Cd and Cu in marine sediments of Cape Town harbour was investigated using a modified Tessier’s sequential extraction procedure and ICP-MS and ICP-AES for heavy metals determination. The mean fractions for all metals at all locations were: 1.5–7196 mg kg-1 for Si, 7.79–7266 mg kg-1 for Al, 161-639 mg kg-1 for Cu, 19–41978 mg kg-1 for Fe, 2.83–5864 mg kg-1 for Zn, 1.45–13.26 mg kg-1for Cd, 9.87–223 mg kg-1 for Sn, 11.98-979 mg kg-1 for Pb and 0.13–5.93 mg kg-1 for Hg. Si, Al and Zn were mostly associated with Fe–Mn oxides, whereas Sn and Hg were mainly bound to residual and organic matter. Pb existed mainly in the residual and iron/manganese oxide phases while Cd was evenly distributed in all the five phases. The loading plots of heavy metals bound to the various chemical forms, as well as Pearson correlation coefficients, enabled the determination binding relationship. Pb, Sn and Hg exhibited similar binding behaviour which indicated an anthropogenic point source from wastes from the ship maintenance workshop, and the presence of Sn in the organic phase can be identified with the use of anti-fouling paints at the harbour, whereas Al, Fe, Si, Cu and Zn would probably be of natural origin. Lastly Cd probably came from a diffuse pollution sources in the harbour due to its unique binding characteristic. The mobility of heavy metals varied depending on location and the heavy metal type. The mobility of metals followed the order: Si > Zn > Fe > Cu> Al> Cd> Pb > Sn > Hg. The high percentage of Cd and Pb in the bioavailable forms suggested the need to keep close surveillance on these metals because of their high toxicity.  相似文献

Abstract

In order to investigate heavy metal contamination in an urban environment during urbanization and economic development, 35 road-deposited sediment samples were collected from seven different land-use zones (commercial, residential, traffic, scenic park, educational, industrial and peri-urban) in Nanjing, a large city in P.R. China. The ranges of total metal concentrations found were: 28.7–272 mg kg?1 for Cu; 24.8–268 mg kg?1 for Ni; 37.3–204 mg kg?1 for Pb; 140–798 mg kg?1 for Zn; 0.44–2.19mg kg?1 for Cd; and 60.6–250 mg kg?1 for Cr. Metal fractionation was carried out using a modified three-step European Bureau of References (BCR) sequential extraction procedure. Cadmium and Zn were found predominantly associated with the acid extractable fractions; Ni and Cr were dominant in the residual fraction; Pb was predominantly associated with the residual and reducible fractions; Cu was dominant in the oxidizable and residual metal fractions. Based on the sum of the acid-extractable, reducible, and oxidizable fractions, Cd, Zn and Pb are potentially the most toxic metals in the road-deposited sediment in Nanjing. No significant differences, except for Zn, were found in the metal fractionation pattern for Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd, and Cr in different land use zones.  相似文献

Heavy metal distribution, bioavailability, and ecological risk in the surface sediment of Taihu Lake were evaluated. Samples were collected from eight representative sites in September 2011 and February 2012. In the surface sediment, average metal contents were in the order of Cr > Zn > Ni > Pb > Cu. Spatially, Zhushan Bay maintained higher Cu, Ni, and Zn contents and Xiaomeikou maintained higher Cr and Pb contents than other sites. Spatial and temporal variation were observed in the bioavailable metals determined by acid-soluble fraction of BCR extraction. The labile metals in Zhushan Bay and Xiaomeikou were quantified by diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) and DGT-labile concentrations of Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, and Cd were in descending order, indicating the inconsistence of labile concentrations of different heavy metals with the total metal contents and that the toxic effect of Cd in sediment should be given attention. The ecological risk assessed by Hakanson potential ecological risk index showed that Zhushan Bay suffered the most serious pollution and should be given special attention. Bioavailability of metals should be taken into account during risk assessment for more accurate estimation.  相似文献

Abstract

Sediments of a polluted reservoir were evaluated for total contents of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn along with their different geochemical forms (exchangeable, carbonate, Fe–Mn, organic matter and residual). Mineralogy of the sediments and physico-chemical parameters i.e. pH, OC and percentage of sand, silt and clay were also evaluated to see the dependency of heavy metals concentration on these parameters. The total concentration of heavy metals in the sediments varied according to sites and seasons. Except for station H1 which had moderately higher concentration of Cu (45.5 mg kg-1), concentrations of all other metals at all the sites under study were below the standard shale value. Maximum proportions of all metals were associated with the carbonate and residual fractions. The Risk Assessment Code showed a low risk for Cr, Ni and Zn, and a medium risk for Cu at station H3 and H4. On the basis of freshwater sediment quality guidelines, there is a strong possibility of Cr and Cu toxicity for aquatic biota of the reservoir. The data were further processed using Pearson’s correlation and factor analysis to obtain more accurate information about the behaviour of these metals. A positive relationship among the metals confirmed the anthropogenic sources of pollution in the reservoir. Significant positive relationships of heavy metals with the texture of the sediment were also obtained.  相似文献

In Dabaoshan mine, dumping sites were the largest pollution source to the local environment. This study analyzed the activation and ecological risk of heavy metals in waste materials from five dumping sites. Results indicated that the acidification of waste materials was severe at all dumping sites, and pH decreased below 3.0 at four of the five sites. There was a drastic variation in Cu, Zn, Pb, and Cd concentrations in different sites. Site A with 12915.3 mg kg?1 Pb and 7.2 mg kg?1 Cd and site C with 1936.2 mg kg?1 Cu and 5069.0 mg kg?1 Zn were severely polluted. Higher concentrations of water-soluble Cu were probably the critical constraint for local pioneer plants. A significant positive correlation was found between the concentrations of water-soluble and HOAc-extractable elements, and the regression analysis showed that, compared with Cu, Zn and Cd, Pb was more difficult to be transformed from HOAc extractable to water soluble. Concentration of water soluble metals should be an important index, same as concentration of HOAc extractable metals, in assessing ecological risks, availability, and toxicity of heavy metals. The modified ecological risk index indicated that all dumping sites had very high potential ecological risks. It is necessary to decrease the availability of heavy metals to reduce the impact of waste materials on environment.  相似文献

Phytoextraction of Risk Elements by Willow and Poplar Trees   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
To characterize the phytoextraction efficiency of two clones of willow trees (Salix x smithiana Willd., Salix rubens) and two clones of poplar trees (Populus nigra x maximowiczii, Populus nigra Wolterson) were planted in contaminated soil (0.4–2.0 mg Cd.kg?1, 78–313 mg Zn.kg?1, 21.3–118 mg Cu.kg?1). Field experiment was carried out in Czech Republic. The study investigated their ability to accumulate heavy metals (Cd, Zn, and Cu) in harvestable plant parts. The poplars produced higher amount of biomass than willows. Both Salix clones accumulated higher amount of Cd, Zn and Cu in their biomass (maximum 6.8 mg Cd.kg?1, 909 mg Zn.kg?1, and 17.7 mg Cu.kg?1) compared to Populus clones (maximum 2.06 mg Cd.kg?1, 463 mg Zn.kg?1, and 11.8 mg Cu.kg?1). There were no significant differences between clones of individual species. BCs for Cd and Zn were greater than 1 (the highest in willow leaves). BCs values of Cu were very low. These results indicate that Salix is more suitable plant for phytoextraction of Cd and Zn than Populus. The Cu phytoextraction potential of Salix and Populus trees was not confirmed in this experiment due to low soil availability of this element.  相似文献

The study of the concentrations of Cr, Zn, Cd, Pb, Ni, and Cu in soils under different land uses in rural, semi-urban, and urban zones in the Niger Delta was carried out with a view to providing information on the effects of the different land uses on the concentrations of trace elements in soils. Our results indicate significant variability in concentrations of these metals in soils under different land uses in rural, semi-urban, and urban zones. The maximum concentrations of metals in the examined soil samples were 707.5 mg.kg?1, 161.0 mg.kg?1, 2.6 mg.kg?1, 59.6 mg.kg?1, 1061.3 mg.kg?1, and 189.2 mg.kg?1 for Cr, Zn, Cd, Pb, Ni, and Cu, respectively. In the rural zone, the cassava processing mill is a potent source of Ni, Cr, Cu, and Zn while agricultural activities are a source of Cd, and automobile emissions and the use of lead oxide batteries constitute the major sources of Pb. In the urban zone, soils around the wood processing mill showed elevated concentrations of Cu, Cr, Zn, and Ni, while soils around automobile mechanic works and motor parks showed elevated levels of Pb. Elevated Cd concentrations were observed in soils under the following land uses: urban motor park, playground, welding and fabrication sheds, and metallic scrap dump. The contamination/pollution index of metals in the soil follows the order: Ni > Cd > Cr > Zn > Cu > Pb. The multiple pollution index of metals at different sites were greater than 1, indicating that these soils fit into “slight pollution” to “excessive pollution” ranges with significant contributions from Cr, Zn, Cd, Ni, and Cu.  相似文献

Abstract

Mining activities have introduced various heavy metals and metalloids to surrounding soil environments, causing adverse impacts to the ecological environment system. The extremely high concentration of various heavy metals and metalloids make the Xikuangshan (Hunan, China) an excellent model to assess their ecological risk. In this study, the soil samples from 26 locations of different land use methods in four areas (smelting area, road nearby ore, mining area, and ore tailing area) in Xikuangshan with different levels of various heavy metals and metalloids (Sb, As, Pb, and Cd) were analyzed; in addition, the index of geo-accumulation and the potential ecological risk index were used to evaluate ecological risk. The results showed that the average contents of Sb, As, Pb, and Cd in all soil samples were 4368.222?mg·kg?1, 40.722?mg·kg?1, 248.013?mg·kg?1, and 40.941?mg·kg?1, respectively, implying serious contamination of compound pollution of heavy metals in soil. The concentration of heavy metals in soil among smelting area, road nearby ore, mining area, and ore tailing area showed significant distribution characteristics of region because different mining activities such as smelting, mining, transportation, and stacking caused different pollution intensity. Moreover, the contents of Sb in soil samples decreased successively in residue field, wasteland, forestland, sediment, grassland, and vegetable field, and the contents of Sb in vegetable-field and ecological restoration grassland were relatively low, which indicate that the method of grassland ecological restoration is an effective method to control antimony pollution in soil. The results of ecological risk assessment showed that the antimony mining area was seriously polluted by Sb, As, Pb, and Cd, and had strong ecological risk, and Sb and Cd were the most important pollution factors, which indicated that the pollution of Sb and Cd should be a major concern of relevant departments of environment and health.  相似文献

In this study, the content characteristics, comprehensive pollution assessment, and morphological distribution characteristics of heavy metals (Mn, Cd, Cr, Pb, Ni, Zn, and Cu) were researched based on the processes of field investigation, sample collection, and experimental analysis. Results showed that the mean concentrations of Mn, Pb, Cr, Cu, Cd, Zn, and Ni in surface soils were 522.77, 22.56, 55.10, 25.41, 0.25, 57.02, and 48.47 mg kg?1, respectively. The surface soil from Sunan mining area was contaminated by Cu, Cd, and Ni in different degrees, and high CV values of Cd, Zn, Pb, and Ni were influenced by local human activities possibly. The evaluation results suggested that the mean Igeo values were in the sequence of Cd (0.657) > Ni (0.052) > Cu (?0.293) > Mn (?0.626) > Zn (?0.761) > Cr (?0.884) > Pb (?0.899). Besides, Cd was the most significant potential risk factor among all elements. Nevertheless, the Cd of bioavailable speciations with higher proportion had stronger migration and toxicity, and was more easier to be absorbed and enriched than other elements by some crops (e.g., vegetables, rice), and being at a relatively higher potential ecological risk in soil.  相似文献

The heavy metals Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Hg, Ag, and Zn, and the metalloid As were measured in surface sediments at permanent stations located in the Calcasieu River/Lake Complex. The relationships among metal concentrations in different areas of the system were investigated to determine sources, source strength, and transport. The point-source inputs of heavy metals were assumed to be industrial outfalls (Bayou d'Inde) and sewage outfalls (Bayou d'Inde and Contraband Bayou). Although these inputs have not seriously affected the entire river/lake system, stressed regions exist within each bayou. The background levels of arsenic and heavy metals were: 0.60 (As), 0.3 to 1.4 (Cd), 25 (Cr), 10 (Cu), 15 (Pb), < 0.05 (Hg), 0.07 (Ag), and 40 mg kg–1 (Zn). Stations near sewage outfalls and industrial outfalls had increased metal concentrations above these background levels, but the increases were restricted to the regions near the outfalls. The metals discharged into the bayous were not being transported to the remainder of the river/lake complex.  相似文献

An ecological survey was carried out to determine the levels of nutrients and heavy metals in the sediments and leaf tissues of two dominant mangrove plant species, Kandelia candel and Aegiceras corniculatum, in Futian mangrove forest, Shenzhen, the People's Republic of China. The spatial and seasonal variations of these elements were also investigated. The results show that there was no major difference between two sampling sites 150 m apart. In both sites, the sediment concentrations of total and NH4 +-N, total and extractable P, total and extractable K, total organic carbon were consistently higher in the landward locations and decreased gradually towards the sea. The sediment sample collected at the seaward edge of the mangrove plant community had the lowest levels of nutrient and organic matter. The vertical variations (from the land to the sea) of sediment heavy metals were less obvious and no particular trend could be identified. Extremely high contents of Cu, Cd, Pb, Cr and Zn were found at certain locations, suggesting the occurrence of some local contamination. The mean total metal concentrations in sediments decreased in the order Mn > Zn > Cu > Cr = Pb > Cd for the sample locations. Most of the heavy metals were not in a bioavailable form as the concentrations of extractable metals were relatively low (< 1% of total metals). Pb, Cr and Cd were not detected in leaf samples. Leaf C, N, P and K contents were similar between the two species and no significant difference was found among locations, although A. corniculatum seemed to have lower Mn concentrations than K. candel. With reference to temporal variations, no significant difference in sediment concentrations of some nutrients and metals was found between the spring and autumn seasons.  相似文献

The objective of this research was to determine the effect of the chelate EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), which is used in phytoremediation, on plant availability of heavy metals in liquid sewage sludge applied to soil. Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) was grown under greenhouse conditions in a commercial potting soil; the tetrasodium salt of EDTA (EDTA Na4) was added at a rate of 1 g kg-1 to half the pots. Immediately after seeds were planted, half of the pots with each soil (with or without EDTA) were irrigated with 60 ml sludge, and half were irrigated with 60 ml tap water. For the subsequent five irrigations, plants in soil with EDTA received either sludge or tap water containing 0.5 g EDTA Na4 per 1000 ml, and plants in soil without EDTA received sludge or tap water without EDTA. Of the four heavy metals whose extractable concentrations in the soil were measured (Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn), only Zn had a higher concentration in sludge-treated soil with EDTA compared to sludge-treated soil without EDTA. The concentrations of Fe, Cu, and Mn were similar in sludge-treated soil with and without EDTA. Of the three heavy metals whose total concentrations in the soil were measured (Cd, Pb, Cr), Pb (<10 mg kg-1) and Cd (< 1 mg kg-1) were below detection limits, and Cr was unaffected by treatment. The concentration of all measured elements in plants (Cd, Cu, Fe, Zn, Pb) was higher than the concentrations measured in the soil. With no EDTA, sludge-treated plants had a higher concentration of the five heavy elements than plants grown without sludge. Cadmium was lower in sludge-treated plants with EDTA than plants with EDTA and no sludge. After treatment with EDTA, the concentrations of Cu, Fe, and Zn were similar in plants with and without sludge. Lead was higher in plants with EDTA than plants without EDTA, showing that EDTA can facilitate phytoremediation of soil with Pb from sewage sludge.  相似文献

Abstract

Sequential extraction was carried out to determine the concentrations of some trace metals (Mn, Cu, Fe, Pb and Cd) in the Kainji lake sediments from seven different locations in four fractions: exchangeable, bound to iron and manganese oxide, bound to organic matters and residual. This was to undertaken to assess the environmental fate of these trace metals. The BCR technique, a modified form of the Tessier method of sequential extraction was used.

The proportion of the mean metal concentrations of the bioavailable metals follows the order Fe>Cu>Pb>Mn>Cd. Generally, Fe was most abundant metal in the sediment and about 40% was found in its bioavailable form. Although Cd contributed least to the bioavailable content, a greater percentage (~60%) was found in the bioavailable fraction. This suggests that Cd is highly mobile and, since it is known to be toxic, its concentration in the bioavailable form constitutes an environmental threat.

The contribution of metals bound to organic matter was found to be high and of the same magnitude as those bound to oxides and constitutes about 70% of the non-bioavailable metal contents. The petrological analysis of the sediments revealed that the sediments were predominantly quartz and rock clays with percussion marks and indentations.  相似文献

In situ interactions between cyanobacteria and metals were studied at Torrão reservoir (Tâmega River, North Portugal). The metal content of water and sediments from the reservoir was monitored monthly at Marco de Canaveses (seasonally subjected to toxic blooms of Microcystis aeruginosa) and upstream at Amarante (no blooms recorded), for 16 months. During the 16 months of the study period, M. aeruginosa bloomed twice at Marco de Canaveses, firstly forming a scum, and later with colonies scattered throughout the reservoir. Metals Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn were analysed in the sediment and in the water column. Cu-binding ligands in water were also determined. When no blooms were taking place, average metal levels for water and sediment were not statistically different at both locations. Therefore, it was considered that the absence of cyanobacteria blooms at Amarante was not due to differences in metal content. When blooms were taking place at Marco de Canaveses, a significant increase of metal levels in the sediment occurred simultaneously. Sediment quality guidelines showed that during this period, Cu and Pb concentrations (32.3 and 43.2 mg kg?1, respectively) were potentially toxic. However, quantification of the exchangeable metal fraction indicated that these metals were probably not bioavailable. Concentration of Cu-binding ligands in water was higher during the blooms, indicating that cyanobacteria are capable of changing the metal speciation in situ in a reservoir.  相似文献

Concentrations of four metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, and Cd) in the sediments of the Anzali Lagoon in the northern part of Iran were determined to evaluate the level of contamination and spatial distribution. The sediments were collected from 21 locations in the lagoon. At each lagoon site a core, 60 cm long, was taken. The ranges of the measured concentrations in the sediments are as follows: 17–140 mg kg?1 for Cu, 20–113 mg kg?1 for Zn, 1–37 mg kg?1 for Pb and 0.1–3.5 mg kg?1 for Cd in surficial (0-20 cm) and 16–87 mg kg?1 for Cu, 28.5–118 mg kg?1 for Zn, 3–20 mg kg?1 for Pb and 0.1–3.5 mg kg?1 for Cd in deep (40–60 cm) sediments. The results of the geoaccumulation index (Igeo) show that Cd causes moderate to heavy pollution in most of the study area. Environmental risk evaluation showed that the pollution in the Anzali Lagoon is moderate to considerable and the ranking of the contaminants followed the order: Cd > Cu > Pb > Zn. Some locations present severe pollution by metals depending on the sources, of which sewage outlets and phosphate fertilizers are the main sources of contaminants to the area.  相似文献

The relationship between the concentration of Pb, Cu, Cd, Zn, and Ag in soft tissues of mytilids Crenomytilus grayanus and Modiolus kurilensis and in bottom deposits was studied to determine the potential and limitations in the use of these molluscs as bioindicators of contamination of coastal waters near Vladivostok (northwest of the Sea of Japan). It was found that the mussel C. grayanus began to accumulate Pb and Cu after certain threshold concentrations of these metals (60 and 150 g/g respectively) in fine fractions of sediments was reached. Accumulation of Pb and Cu by M. kurilensis also depended on the level of sediment contamination, but the higher initial metal content in tissues and the higher individual variability reduced the sensitivity of this species as a bioindicator. Accumulation of Cd and especially of Zn in mytilid tissues is adjusted by the organism, which restricts the opportunity of their use for tracking the anthropogenic input of bioavailable forms of these metals.  相似文献
