While exercise heat stress and hydration status are known to independently influence heart rate variability (HRV), the combined effect of these physiological stressors is unknown. Thus, heat-acclimated subjects (n=5) performed exercise heat trials (40 °C, 20% relative humidity) in the euhydrated and hypohydrated state (3.9±0.7% body weight loss). During each trial, cardiac cycle R–R interval data were collected for 45 min at rest (pre-) and after (post-) completing 90 min of cycle ergometer exercise. Pre- and post-exercise RRI data were analyzed by Fast Fourier Power Spectral analysis to determine the high-frequency (HF), low-frequency (LF), very low-frequency (VLF), and total power (TP) components of HRV. Overall HRV was decreased by both hypohydration and exercise heat stress. Hypohydration reduced TP, LF, VLF, and LF:HF ratio (P<0.05) while HF was significantly higher. The change in both LF and HF power (pre- vs. post-exercise) were blunted during hypohydration compared to euhydration. These data suggest that dehydration alone positively influences the parasympathetic (HF) control of HRV, but the reduction in overall HRV and the blunted oscillations in LF and HF power following exercise heat stress support an overall deleterious effect of dehydration on autonomic cardiac stability.  相似文献

BackgroundWe have previously shown that high fat (HF) feeding during pregnancy primes the development of non-alcoholic steatohepatits (NASH) in the adult offspring. However, the underlying mechanisms are unclear.AimsSince the endogenous molecular clock can regulate hepatic lipid metabolism, we investigated whether exposure to a HF diet during development could alter hepatic clock gene expression and contribute to NASH onset in later life.MethodsFemale mice were fed either a control (C, 7% kcal fat) or HF (45% kcal fat) diet. Offspring were fed either a C or HF diet resulting in four offspring groups: C/C, C/HF, HF/C and HF/HF. NAFLD progression, cellular redox status, sirtuin expression (Sirt1, Sirt3), and the expression of core clock genes (Clock, Bmal1, Per2, Cry2) and clock-controlled genes involved in lipid metabolism (Rev-Erbα, Rev-Erbβ, RORα, and Srebp1c) were measured in offspring livers.ResultsOffspring fed a HF diet developed NAFLD. However HF fed offspring of mothers fed a HF diet developed NASH, coupled with significantly reduced NAD+/NADH (p < 0.05, HF/HF vs C/C), Sirt1 (p < 0.001, HF/HF vs C/C), Sirt3 (p < 0.01, HF/HF vs C/C), perturbed clock gene expression, and elevated expression of genes involved lipid metabolism, such as Srebp1c (p < 0.05, C/HF and HF/HF vs C/C).ConclusionOur results suggest that exposure to excess dietary fat during early and post-natal life increases the susceptibility to develop NASH in adulthood, involving altered cellular redox status, reduced sirtuin abundance, and desynchronized clock gene expression.  相似文献

Thirty-eight single male lambs (3.6 ± 0.08 kg live weight at birth) were used to study the influence of feeding system on carcass and non-carcass composition of Churra Tensina light lambs. Treatments: indoor (IND), lambs housed indoors consuming concentrate ad libitum until weaning at 53 days of age, and ewes grazing 8 h a day without their offspring and receiving a supplement of barley meal after grazing; grazing (GR), ewes and lambs grazed continuously without concentrate and lambs were unweaned. When lambs reached 22–24 kg live weight they were slaughtered. Carcass and non-carcass composition was recorded. GR lambs displayed higher carcass shrink (P < 0.05) and lower dressing percentage (P < 0.01) than concentrate-fed lambs. IND lambs had more body fat mainly due to the heavier kidney (P < 0.001) and subcutaneous (P < 0.001) fat depots. Total non-carcass weight was not affected by treatment (P > 0.05), but red organ (heart, lung and trachea, thymus, liver, spleen, kidney, diaphragm, pancreas, gall bladder, bladder, and testicles and penis), digestive tract (stomach, small intestine and large intestine) and head, skin, and feet (HSF) weights differed between treatments (P < 0.05). IND lambs had heavier red organs and HSF (P < 0.05) although this difference disappeared when expressed as a percentage of empty body weight. Small intestine weight in grazing lambs was heavier (P < 0.001) and, consequently, the total digestive tract differed similarly (P < 0.01). Treatment influenced the weights (P < 0.05) of all joints except leg (P > 0.05), showing heavier joints for IND carcasses. The feeding system had a greater effect on subcutaneous fat (P < 0.001) than on intermuscular fat (P < 0.05) in most of the standardized joints. IND carcasses produced a greater proportion of muscle/bone in all joints, except neck, whereas GR produced a greater proportion of muscle/total fat due to the lower amount of fat recorded in this treatment. The percentage of fatty acids was not affected by treatment (P > 0.05) although the percentage of C18:3 was greater and the ratio of C18:2/C18:3 was lower in grazing-fed lambs. The absence of any effect of treatment on the fatty acid percentages may be influenced by the short raising period and by the similar amount of intramuscular fat in both treatments. It is concluded that light lambs reared under grazing conditions can produce carcasses of acceptable quality, due to the lower percentage of subcutaneous fat, but with a similar intramuscular fat content.  相似文献

BackgroundThe body mass index (BMI) is based on the original concept that body weight increases as a function of height squared. As an indicator of obesity the modern BMI assumption postulates that adiposity also increases as a function of height in states of positive energy balance.ObjectiveTo evaluate the BMI concept across different adiposity magnitudes, in both children and adults.MethodsWe studied 975 individuals who underwent anthropometric evaluation: 474 children and 501 adults. Tetrapolar bioimpedance analysis was used to assess body fat and lean mass.ResultsBMI significantly correlated with percentage of body fat (%BF; children: r = 0.893; adults: r = 0.878) and with total fat mass (children: r = 0.967; adults: r = 0.953). In children, body weight, fat mass, %BF and waist circumference progressively increased as a function of height squared. In adults body weight increased as a function of height squared, but %BF actually decreased with increasing height both in men (r = −0.406; p < 0.001) and women (r = −0.413; p < 0.001). Most of the BMI variance in adults was explained by a positive correlation of total lean mass with height squared (r2 = 0.709), and by a negative correlation of BMI with total fat mass (r = −0.193).ConclusionsBody weight increases as a function of height squared. However, adiposity progressively increases as a function of height only in children. BMI is not an ideal indicator of obesity in adults since it is significantly influenced by the lean mass, even in obese individuals.  相似文献

Forty-eight Pelibuey × Katahdin (38.8 ± 0.67 kg) crossbred male lambs were used in a 32-day feeding trial (four pens per treatment in a randomized complete block design), to evaluate the influence of zilpaterol (β2-agonist) supplementation level on growth performance and carcass characteristics. Lambs were fed a dry-rolled corn-based finishing diet (3.04 Mcal/kg of ME) supplemented with 0, 0.15, 0.20, or 0.25 mg/kg of live weight d−1 zilpaterol (as zilpaterol chlorhydrate, Zilmax®, Intervet México, México City). DM intake averaged 1.099 ± 0.042 kg/d and was not affected (P = 0.40) by treatments. Compared with control lambs, zilpaterol supplementation increased gain efficiency (15.8%, P < 0.03), apparent energy retention per unit DMI (10.9%, P = 0.03), and tended to increased daily gain (16%, P < 0.07) and total gain (17.7%, P < 0.08). Zilpaterol supplementation did not affect (P = 0.20) carcass weight, longissimus muscle area (LM), or fat thickness, but increased (2.3%, P = 0.04) carcass dressing percentage and reduced (36%, P < 0.01) kidney-pelvic fat. Increasing level of zilpaterol supplementation increased total weight gain (linear component, P < 0.05), gain:feed (linear component, P < 0.01), and dressing percentage (linear component, P < 0.02), and decreased (linear component, P < 0.01) kidney-pelvic fat. We conclude that zilpaterol supplementation enhances growth performance and dressing percentage in lambs in a manner comparable to that of cattle (greater muscle accretion, reduced body fat). Responses to zilpaterol was optimal when supplemented at 0.20 mg of zilpaterol/kg of live weight d−1.  相似文献

BackgroundOsteoporosis is characterised by loss of bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue microarchitecture that leads to fragility related to the risk of fractures. The aim of the study is to analyse the effects of a training program based on explosive movements and impact, assessed in a swimming pool, on body composition, explosive strength and bone mineral density in women over 60 years old.Material and methodsA total of 35 healthy physically active women (60 ± 4.19 years) were divided into a training pool group using multi jumps (JG) and a control group (CG). JG trained for 24 weeks, 3 times a week, an hour and a half per session. Body composition testing, explosive strength, and bone mineral density were assessed before and after the program.ResultsThere were differences in the explosive force (JG vs CG = P < .05 to .001) and the estimated power (JG vs CG = P < .05 to .002) between JG vs CG, with significant increases in JG. There were no significant differences in the percentage of fat and lean mass, bone mineral density lumbar and femoral between groups, although slightly significant increases in bone mineral density lumbar and femoral could be seen in JG after program implementation (JG pre-test vs JG post- test = P < .05).ConclusionsThe training program with impact and explosive movements assessed in a pool induces gains in muscle strength and power with slight adaptations in body mass index in women over 60 years.  相似文献

An experiment (complete randomised design) was conducted to investigate the use of lactose in finishing pig diets on nitrogen excretion patterns and ammonia emissions. Diets were formulated to have similar digestible energy (13.8 MJ/kg) and total lysine (11.0 g/kg) contents. Thirty boars (58 kg) were assigned to one of the five dietary treatments (six per treatment) as follows: (T1) 0 g Lactofeed/kg (860 g whey permeate/kg, 140 g soya bean meal/kg, Volac International, UK) (LF70); (T2) 40 g LF70/kg; (T3) 80 g LF70/kg; (T4) 120 g LF70/kg; and (T5) 160 g LF70/kg. After a 14-day adaptation period, pigs were housed in metabolism crates and faeces and urine were collected for nitrogen balance and ammonia emission. NH3–N emission was measured over 10 days using a laboratory scale procedure. Coefficient of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) for dry matter and gross energy digestibility were affected by dietary LF70 inclusion (quadratic, P<0.05). T1 had a higher urinary N and total N excretion (P<0.1), a lower N retention (as a proportion of intake) (P<0.05) than the LF70 supplemented diets. T1 had a higher NH3–N per gram of N intake from days 0 to 4 (P<0.05) than the LF70 supplemented diets. In the faeces isobutyric acid and isovaleric acid were affected by dietary LF70 level (quadratic, P<0.01). There was a linear decrease in the ratio of acetic acid: propionic acid with increasing LF70 levels (P<0.05). In the caecum and colon lactobacilli concentrations were affected by dietary LF70 inclusion (quadratic, P<0.05). In conclusion, the current study demonstrates that the incorporation of lactofeed in finisher pig diets increases CTTAD for gross energy and the concentration of lactobacilli in the hind-gut and decreases total nitrogen excretion. The inclusion of lactofeed also reduces the quantity of ammonia emitted from fresh manure in the first 4 days of storage.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo determine the clinical and functional differences at hospital admission and at 1 year after a hip fracture (HF) in nursing homes (NH) and community-dwelling (CD) patients.MethodsAll patients with HF admitted to the orthogeriatric unit at a university hospital between January 2013 and February 2014 were prospectively included. Clinical and functional variables, and mortality were recorded during the hospital admission. The patients were contacted by telephone at 1 year to determine their vital condition and functional status.ResultsA total of 509 patients were included, 116 (22.8%) of whom came from NH. Compared with the CD patients, the NH patients had higher surgical risk (ASA ≥3: 83.6% vs. 66.4%, P < .001), poorer theoretical vital prognosis (Nottingham Profile ≥5: 98.3% vs. 56.6%, P< .001), higher rate of previous functional status (median Barthel index: 55 [IQR, 36-80] vs. 90 [IQR, 75-100], P< .001), poorer mental status (Pfeiffer's SPMSQ >2: 74.1% vs. 40.2%, P< .001), and a higher rate of sarcopenia (24.3% vs. 15.2%, P< .05). There were no differences in in-hospital or at 1-year mortality. At 1 year, NH patients recovered their previous walking capacity at a lower rate (38.5% vs. 56.2%, P< .001).ConclusionsAmong the patients with HF treated in an orthogeriatric unit, NH patients had higher, surgical risk, functional and mental impairment, and a higher rate of sarcopenia than CD patients. At 1 year of follow-up, NH patients did not have higher mortality, but they recovered their previous capacity for walking less frequently.  相似文献

This study was carried out to evaluate the anti-obesity effect of Vernonia amygdalina Del. (VA) supplemented diet. VA leaf powder was fed at 5% and 15% to diet-induced obese rats for 4 weeks and its effect compared with orlistat (5.14 mg/kg p.o.), an anti-obesity drug. Food intake, body and organ weights, total body fat, some lipid components and amino transaminase activities in serum, hepatocytes and brain; as well as serum glucose, were measured during or at end of the study. Result showed respective decrease of 12.78% and 38.51% in body weight gain, of VA fed rats against 17.45% of orlistat at end of study (P < 0.05); but with no effect on food intake. Total body fat was lowered by 28.04% and 30.02% vs. obese control rats (CDC) (P < 0.05). Furthermore, serum triacylglycerol (TG), serum and brain total cholesterol (TCHOL), were down regulated at 15% VA supplementation (P < 0.05). Serum glucose which increased in obese rats by 46.26% (P < 0.05) vs. NC, indicating intolerance, was restored by VA (38.75% and 34.65%) and orlistat (31.80%) vs. CDC (P < 0.05). VA diet also exerted hepato-protection, via lowering serum alanine amino transaminase (ALT) (41.35% and 27.13%) and aspartate amino transaminase (AST) (17.09% and 43.21%) activities (P < 0.05). Orlistat had no effect on these enzymes. Histology of adipose tissue corroborated the changes on total body fat. We concluded that, diet supplemented with VA can attenuate dietary obesity as well as ameliorates the potential risks of hepato-toxicity and glucose intolerance associated with obesity.  相似文献

The current experiment with 3 trials aimed to study the effect of two levels of dietary fibre – high fibre (HF; 323 g aNDFom/kg) and low fibre (LF; 248 g aNDFom/kg) – and the effect of mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) addition (1 g/kg) to the LF diet (LFM) on the performances and health status of growing rabbits, digestibility and caecal fermentative characteristics. In the growth trial 132 rabbits of both sexes were used (11 cages with 4 rabbits per treatment) from weaning (32 days of age) to slaughter (67 days of age). Rabbits fed HF diet showed a significantly higher weight gain and live weight at 67 days than rabbits fed LF diet (2032 g vs. 1935 g) (P<0.05). Feed and digestible energy intake increased with dietary fibre level (P<0.05). During the growing period rabbits fed HF diet had a feed intake 26% higher than those fed LF diet. Feed efficiency ratio was worse in HF animals (0.334 vs. 0.385; P<0.05). Addition of MOS to LF diet did not affect growth performance parameters (P>0.05). Mortality and morbidity rate were not affected by treatments. In the digestibility 24 rabbits from 46 to 51 days of age trial were used. The HF diet resulted in a significant (P<0.05) decrease in digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and protein while the aNDFom digestibility was not significantly different between diets (P>0.05). Supplementation with MOS had no effects on digestibility (P>0.05). In the 3rd trial the caecal traits were measured in 30 rabbits with 46 days of age that received the experimental diets in the previous 14 days. Caecal production of total volatile fatty acids (VFA), acetate and propionate were significantly higher (P>0.05) on rabbits fed HF diets than on rabbits fed LF diets. The total VFA concentration increased 64% (from 5.01 to 8.20 mmol/100 ml) and acetate increased 73% (from 3.73 to 6.44 mmol/100 ml). Butyrate production was not different between diets (P>0.05). Fibre level did not affect proportions of VFA and caecal contents and caecal weights. Addition of MOS to LF diet did not affect any caecal trait (P>0.05). It was concluded that the reduction of dietary fibre level increases feed digestibility but worsens rabbit growth performances. Supplementation of low fibre diet with 1 g MOS/kg is not enough to reduce its negative effects on growth performances.  相似文献

The cerebral cortex has massive connections with autonomic nervous system and then arouses cardiovascular events, but the coupling mechanism between brain and heart is not clear. In this study the heart rate variability (HRV) and directed transfer function (DTF) methods are used to investigate the cortico-cortical functional coupling and direction of information flow between brain and heart during a mental arithmetic (MA) task. Electroencephalogram (EEG) and ECG were used for measuring neural/cardiac activity. Forty-three healthy male subjects were voluntarily participated in the study. Our results showed compared with control, LF/HF and LFn significantly increased while HF, HFn and total power significantly decreased (P < 0.05) during MA task. HR (79 ± 1.7 beats/min) was also significantly higher compared with the control (71 ± 1.4 beats/min). Moreover, MA task trigger the neurons of pre-central and central areas and then information transmit from front to back, and finished information integration at parietal and occipital locations. Our findings suggested that MA task caused an increase of the coupling of brain regions and quickened heart rate by virtue of increasing sympathetic activity and decreasing parasympathetic activity. The regulation from post-central areas to heart as well as feedback regulation from heart to central areas exists in the MA task.  相似文献

Apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype is believed to play an important role in cardiovascular risk. APOE4 carriers have been associated with higher blood lipid levels and a more pro-inflammatory state compared with APOE3/E3 individuals. Although dietary fat composition has been considered to modulate the inflammatory state in humans, very little is known about how APOE genotype can impact on this response. In a follow-up to the main SATgenε study, we aimed to explore the effects of APOE genotype, as well as, dietary fat manipulation on ex vivo cytokine production. Blood samples were collected from a subset of SATgenε participants (n = 52/88), prospectively recruited according to APOE genotype (n = 26 E3/E3 and n = 26 E3/E4) after low-fat (LF), high saturated fat (HSF) and HSF with 3.45 g docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) dietary periods (each diet eight weeks in duration assigned in the same order) for the measurement of ex vivo cytokine production using whole blood culture (WBC). Concentrations of IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and TNF-alpha were measured in WBC supernatant samples after stimulation for 24 h with either 0.05 or 1 μg/ml of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Cytokine levels were not influenced by genotype, whereas, dietary fat manipulation had a significant impact on TNF-α and IL-10 production; TNF-α concentration was higher after consumption of the HSF diet compared with baseline and the LF diet (P < 0.05), whereas, IL-10 concentration was higher after the LF diet compared with baseline (P < 0.05). In conclusion, our study has revealed the amount and type of dietary fat can significantly modulate the production of TNF-α and IL-10 by ex vivo LPS-stimulated WBC samples obtained from normolipidaemic subjects.  相似文献

ObjectiveWe investigated the correlation between the severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and carotid intima media thickness (IMT) as a marker of atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes.MethodsThe study group consisted of 140 normo-tensive Egyptian patients (68 males and 72 females) with type 2 diabetes and DR. Carotid IMT was evaluated using high-resolution B-mode ultrasonography. DR was assessed and graded using colored fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography, as either nonproliferative DR (NPDR) or proliferative DR (PDR).ResultsCarotid IMT was greater in patients with PDR compared to those with NPDR (1.094 ± 0.142 mm vs. 0.842 ± 0.134 mm; P < .001). Carotid IMT showed positive correlation with diabetes duration (P < .01), systolic blood pressure (P < .001), diastolic blood pressure (P < .01), fasting blood glucose (P < .01), postprandial blood glucose (PPBG) (P < .001), glycated hemoglobin (P < .01), total cholesterol (P < .01), triglycerides (TGs) (P < .001), and DR (P < .0001). No significant difference was found between males and females in any of the studied parameters. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the determinants of carotid IMT in the studied group were age (P < .01), PPBG (P < .01), TGs (P < .001), and DR (P < .0001).ConclusionOur study proves that both NPDR and PDR are strong determinants of carotid IMT and atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes. ObjectiveThere is a need to identify biomarkers for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Recently the soluble pro-renin receptor (s[Pro]RR) has been shown to be associated with GDM. We investigated the association of s(Pro) RR levels in Asian Indians with GDM.MethodsWe recruited 222 pregnant females, 147 without GDM (non-GDM) and 75 with GDM visiting antenatal clinics in Tamilnadu in South India. We included singleton pregnancy and excluded those with pre-existing diabetes mellitus or hypertension. Oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs) were performed, and GDM was diagnosed using the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group criteria. s(Pro)RR was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to identify s(Pro) RR cut-off points to identify GDM.ResultsThe mean levels of the s(Pro)RR were significantly higher in subjects with GDM (34.0 ± 12 ng/mL, P < .001) compared to non-GDM (21.4 ± 6.5 ng/mL). The proportions of subjects with GDM were 11 (15%) in the first tertile of s(Pro)RR (< 19.61 ng/mL), 20 (27%) in the second (19.62-26.8 ng/mL), and 44 (59%) in the third tertile (> 26.8 ng/mL). In multiple logistic regression analysis, s(Pro)RR showed a significant association with GDM (odds ratio [OR]: 1.201, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.065-1.355, P = .003) after adjusting for potential con-founders. A s(Pro)RR cut-off of 23.3 ng/mL had a C statistic of 0.828 (95% CI: 0.738-0.918, P < .001), sensitivity of 68%, and specificity of 70% to identify GDM.Conclusionss(Pro)RR levels are higher in females with GDM, and this could be used as a potential biomarker. ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of exenatide therapy on cardiometabolic risk factors and anthropometric parameters in patients with metabolic syndrome.MethodsFrom June 2005 to June 2007, we performed a retrospective analysis of data extracted from the records of adult patients with metabolic syndrome being treated with exenatide. Diagnosis of any type of diabetes mellitus was exclusionary. Patients were initiated on exenatide therapy, 5 mcg, 1 hour before their morning and evening meals for the first month and were instructed to titrate up to 10 mcg. Cardiometabolic risk factors (total cholesterol, high-denssity lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, calculated low- density lipoprotein cholesterol, and blood pressure) and anthropometric parameters (absolute body weight, body mass index, and abdominal girth) were measured at baseline and at 16 ± 4 weeks after initiating exenatide therapy. Data collected also included age, sex, metabolic syndrome diagnosis, and other concomitant medication used in the management of endocrine disorders.ResultsThe study population consisted of 299 patients (259 women, 40 men) with an age range of 18 to 74 years. Exenatide treatment was associated with significant reductions in mean body weight (P < .001) and body mass index (P < .001). Weight loss in 76.6% of patients was concomitant with a significant reduction in mean abdominal girth (P < .001). Further analysis revealed significant decreases in mean triglycerides (P < .001), total cholesterol (P < .01), and both systolic (P < .01) and diastolic blood pressure (P < .03). Approximately 60.2% of patients used metformin concomitantly, and half either decreased or discontinued metformin therapy.ConclusionsThis is the first report examining the effect of exenatide on patients with metabolic syndrome. We observed a significant improvement in cardiometabolic risk factors and anthropometric parameters as a result of exenatide over the treatment interval. (Endocr Pract. 2008;14:993-999)  相似文献

ObjectiveTo demonstrate the hypothesis that aerobic exercise training inhibits the development of insulin resistance through IL-6 and probe into the possible molecular mechanism about it.MethodsRats were raised with high-fat diets for 8 weeks to develop insulin resistance, and glucose infusion rates (GIRs) were determined by hyperinsulinemic–euglycemic clamping to confirm the development of insulin resistance. Aerobic exercise training (the speed and duration time in the first week were respectively 16 m/min and 50 min, and speed increased 1 m/min and duration time increased 5 min every week following it) and/or IL-6shRNA plasmid injection (rats received IL-6shRNA injection via the tail vein every two weeks) were adopted during the development of insulin resistance. The serum IL-6, leptin, adiponectin, fasting blood glucose, fasting serum insulin, GIR, IL-6 gene expression levels, p-p38 in various tissues and p-STAT3/t-STAT3 ratio in the liver were measured.ResultsRats fed with high-fat diets for 8 weeks were developed insulin resistance and the IL-6mRNA levels of IL-6shRNA injection groups in various tissues were significantly lower than those of control group (P < 0.05), respectively. The development of insulin resistance in exercise rats significantly decreased, however, compared with that, the GIR of exercise rats injected by IL-6shRNA was lower (P < 0.05). The IL-6mRNA levels were highest in the fat tissue and lowest in the skeletal muscles in all the rats. The serum adiponectin levels decreased (P < 0.05) following the development of insulin resistance, and it increased (P < 0.05) when the rats were intervened by aerobic exercise training for 8 weeks at the same time. However, there were not significant differences when serum leptin concentrations were compared (P > 0.05). The p-p38 significantly increased in the rats fed with high-fat diets, however, p-p38 of the exercise high-fat diets rats in the liver and fat tissues significantly decreased than that (P < 0.05). The changes of p-p38 in exercise rats injected by IL-6shRNA were irregular. The activation of STAT3 in the liver significantly increased (P < 0.05) following the development of insulin resistance, and it decreased (P < 0.05) when the rats were intervened by aerobic exercise training for 8 weeks at the same time, and the gene silencing of IL-6 did not have effects on the activation of STAT3 in the liver (P > 0.05).ConclusionsIn conclusion, aerobic exercise training prevented the development of insulin resistance through IL-6 to a certain degree. The gene expression and secretion of IL-6 could inhibit the development of insulin resistance. The mechanism of the effects were possibly related with elevating the levels of serum adiponectin, and/or inhibiting the activation of STAT3 in the liver and p38MAPK in the skeletal muscles, liver and fat tissues.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between cardiometabolic disease risk factors (CDRFs) among ethnic minorities and anthropometric factors including body mass index z score, waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-height ratio (WHTR) in Hispanic and non-Hispanic black youths originating primarily from Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.MethodsClinical data of 167 young persons 2 to 19 years of age encountered in an outpatient pediatric endocrinology clinic were analyzed. The CDRFs included fasting insulin and glucose, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, cardiac C-reactive protein (CRP), and apolipoproteins.ResultsFor both the non-Hispanic black and the Hispanic youths, WC was significantly correlated with SBP (r = 0.63; P < .001 and r = 0.50; P < .001, respectively), DBP (r = 0.61; P < .001 and r = 0.47; P < .001, respectively), and cardiac CRP (r = 0.76; P < .001 and r = 0.26; P = .026, respectively). Similarly, WHTR was significantly correlated with SBP, DBP, and cardiac CRP for the non-Hispanic black study subjects, whereas SBP (r = 0.22; P = .01), DBP ( r = 0.34; P < .001), fasting insulin ( r = 0.43; P < .001), HOMA-IR (r = 0.38; P < .001), apolipoprotein A-I (r = 0.30; P = .01), and CRP (r = 0.44; P < .001) were significantly correlated for the Hispanic group. For both groups, body mass index z score was not consistently correlated with CDRFs, and waist-to-hip ratio was not significantly correlated with any CDRFs, except for apolipoprotein B in non-Hispanic black youths.ConclusionOur study shows that WC and WHTR may be useful anthropometric factors for better identification of ethnic minority youths at risk for adult-onset cardiometabolic disease. The objective of the present study was to compare live animal performance and carcass characteristics of 3/4 or 7/8 Dorper (DO; n = 30), purebred Katahdin (KA; n = 20), purebred St. Croix (SC; n = 17) and purebred Suffolk (SU; n = 10) lambs born in the spring and fall of 2001. After weaning, lambs were supplemented with up to 680 g of a corn-soybean meal supplement while grazing bermudagrass pastures overseeded with ryegrass. Lambs were slaughtered at approximately 210 d of age. From birth to weaning, DO lambs gained faster (P < 0.001) than KA or SC lambs, whereas KA lambs had higher (P < 0.001) ADG than SC lambs. Additionally, DO and SU wethers had greater (P < 0.02) ADG from weaning to slaughter than SC or KA wethers. Suffolk lambs were heavier (P < 0.001) at slaughter and produced heavier (P < 0.001) carcasses than lambs from hair-sheep breeds. Carcasses of KA lambs were fatter (actual fat thickness; P < 0.02) resulting in higher yield grades (P < 0.03) than carcasses of DO, SC, or SU lambs. Carcasses of DO and SU had larger (P < 0.001) longissimus muscle (LM) areas than those of KA or SC carcasses, whereas kidney fat weight and percentage were greater (P < 0.001) in carcasses from KA and SC than DO and SU lambs. Lean maturity was similar (P = 0.32) among breed-types. However, skeletal maturity was greater (P < 0.001) in SU than hair-sheep carcasses. Flank-streaking scores were similar (P = 0.19) among the breed-types, but conformation scores were higher (P < 0.001) for DO and SU carcasses and resulted in higher (P < 0.001) quality grades than SC carcasses. The LM of SU lambs was lighter (higher L* values; P < 0.05) than that of KA and SC lambs, whereas the LM from DO lambs was redder (higher a* values; P < 0.001) than SC and SU and more (P < 0.001) yellow than that of the other breed-types. Chops from SU lambs were tougher (higher shear force values; P < 0.007) than chops from the hair-sheep breeds. Results of this study indicate that ADG, carcass muscularity and meat quality were similar between DO and SU lambs, and, although fatter, carcass muscularity of KA was similar to that of DO lambs.  相似文献

IntroductionSpanish National Health Surveys do not establish synergistic relations between variables. The purpose of this study was to perform a deeper historical analysis of body mass index (BMI) and its relation to other parameters included in the questionnaire for children.Material and methodsData from interviews conducted (between 1987 and 2006) to parents and guardians of schoolchildren aged 9-15 years were analyzed. Height and weight reported by parents were selected and used to calculate BMI. Subjects were stratified by age, gender, time spent sleeping and watching television and, finally, frequency of physical activity. The historical trend of BMI and its dependence on the above factors were analyzed using ANOVA tests. Results and conclusionsSignificant weight and height increases were seen, which were more marked in boys aged 12 to 15 years. Influence of physical activity on BMI was shown, but decreased (P < .001) as exercise time increased. By contrast, BMI increased (P < .001) as time spent watching television increased. On the other hand, the role of sleep as modulator of body size was confirmed, since schoolchildren aged 9-11 years who slept over 9 h had lower BMIs (P < .001). In subjects aged 12 to 15, BMI decreased (P < .001) from 6 h of sleep.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo determine whether prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations in type 2 diabetic men with hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism are lower than those in eugonadal men with type 2 diabetes and whether PSA concentrations are related to plasma testosterone concentrations.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, we measured serum total testosterone, sex hormone–binding globulin, free testosterone, PSA, hematocrit, and hemoglobin A1c in consecutive type 2 diabetic men who presented to 2 endocrinology referral centers between January 2006 and January 2007. We collected other clinical and demographic data including age, height, weight, and ethnicity.ResultsOf 400 eligible patients, 280 men met inclusion criteria. Plasma PSA concentrations were lower in type 2 diabetic men with low free testosterone concentrations than in those with normal free testosterone concentrations (25.65 ± 2.02 ng/dL vs 31.70 ± 2.31 ng/dL, P = .011). PSA concentrations were positively related to age (r = 0.34, P < .001), total testosterone (r = 0.29, P < .001), free testosterone (r = 0.17, P = .02), and sex hormone– binding globulin (r = 0.22, P < .001) and negatively related to body mass index (r = –0.28, P < .001). In stepwise backward regression analysis, PSA concentration was predicted by age (P < .001) and free testosterone (P < .001), but not by body mass index or sex hormone–binding globulin.ConclusionsPlasma PSA concentrations are lower in type 2 diabetic men with hypogonadism than in eugonadal men with type 2 diabetes, and plasma PSA is related to age, plasma total testosterone concentrations, and free testosterone concentrations in patients with type 2 diabetes.
