Primary productivity, biomass and chlorophyll-a of size fractionated phytoplankton (<0.22 m, <3 m, <8 m, <10 m, <40 m, <64 m, <112 m and <200 m) were estimated in 6 ponds and 5 experimental enclosures. The results showed that the planktonic algae less than 10 m are important in the biomass and production of phytoplankton in saline–alkaline ponds. The production of size fractionated phytoplankton corresponding to <112 m, <10 m and <3 m in saline–alkaline ponds were 10.5 ± 6.6 , 8.6 ± 5.4 and 0.33 ± 0.1 mgC l–1 d–1, respectively. Mean community respiration rate was 1.80 ± 0.73, 1.69 ± 0.90 and 1.38 ± 1.12 mgC l–1 d–1, respectively. The average production of phytoplankton corresponding to micro- (10–112 m), nano- (3–10 m) and pico- (<3 m) were 1.61, 8.30 and 0.33 mgC l–1 d–1, respectively. The ratio of those to the total phytoplankton production was 15%, 79% and 3%, respectively. The mean respiration rate of the different size groups was 0.11, 0.31 and 1.38 mgC l–1 d–1; the ratio of those to total respiration of phytoplankton was 6%, 17% and 77%, respectively. The production of size-fractionated phytoplankton corresponding to <200 m, <10 m and <3 m in enclosures was 2.19 ± 1.63, 2.08 ± 1.75 and 0.22 ± 0.08 mgC l–1 d-1, respectively. Mean community respiration rates were 1.25 ± 1.55, 1.17 ± 1.42 and 0.47 ± 0.32 mgC l–1 d–1, respectively. The average production of phytoplankton corresponding to micro- (10–200 m), nano- (3–10 m) and pico- (<3 m) plankton was 0.11, 1.86 and 0.22 mgC l–1 d–1, respectively. The ratio of those to the total production of phytoplankton was 5%, 85% and 10%, respectively. The mean respiration rate of different size groups were 0.08, 0.72 and 0.46 mgC l–1 d–1, the ratio of those to total respiration of phytoplankton was 6%, 57% and 37%, respectively. The concentrations of chlorophyll-a of the phytoplankton in the corresponding size of micro- (10–112 m), nano- (3–10 m) and pico- (<3 m) plankton in the experimental ponds were 19.3, 98.2 and 11. 9 g l–1, respectively. The ratio of those to the total chlorophyll-a was 15%, 76% and 9%, respectively. The concentrations of chlorophyll-a of phytoplankton micro- (10–200 m), nano- (3–10 m) and pico- (<3 m) plankton in enclosures were 1.7, 34.3 and 3.0 g l–1, respectively. Samples of the phytoplankton in a freshwater lake, Lake Liddell, New South Wales (Lat: 32° 22 S, Long. 150° 1 E) were collected every 4 weeks between October 1987 and November 1988. Chlorophyll a concentrations ranged from 1.8 g 1–1 to 9.1 g 1–1 and were positively correlated with the following nutrient parameters: total and nett mass additions of nitrate/nitrite-N and total-N, total additions of Kjeldahl-N, and nett mass addition N-P ratios. There was no correlation between lake nutrient concentrations and chlorophyll a. Factors other than nutrient concentrations appeared to be effecting chlorophyll a concentrations as summer levels were low despite nutrient concentrations being at a maximum. In spring and summer the phytoplankton was dominated by chlorophytes, with dinoflagellates and diatoms most abundant in autumn. During winter cyanobacteria were the most abundant. The relative abundance of chlorophytes was positively correlated with in lake nitrate/nitrite-N concentrations whereas the relative abundance of cyanobacteria was negatively correlated with this parameter. Based on chlorophyll a concentrations and the phytoplankton flora Lake Liddell can be classified as mesotrophic.  相似文献

Synopsis Arsenic persists in Chautauqua Lake, New York waters 13 years after cessation of herbicide (sodium arsenite) application and continues to cycle within the lake. Arsenic concentrations in lake water ranged from 22.4–114.81 g l–1, = 49.0 ag l–1. Well water samples generally contained less than 10 g l–1 arsenic. Arsenic concentrations in lake water exceeded U.S. Public Health Service recommended maximum concentrations (10 g l–1) and many samples exceeded the maximum permissible limit (50 g l–1). Fish accumulated arsenic from water but did not magnify it. Fish to water arsenic ratios ranged from 0.4–41.6. Black crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus) contained the highest arsenic concentrations (0.14–2.04 g g–1 ), X = 0.7 g g–1) while perch (Perca flavescens), muskellunge (Esox masquinongy) and largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) contained the lowest concentrations (0.02–0.13 g g–1). Arsenic concentrations in fish do not appear to pose a health hazard for human consumers.  相似文献

The seasonal development and decline of phytoplankton was investigated in the eastern Weddell Sea during summer and fall 1991. During the first half of the study (15 Jan–13 Feb) in an area off Vestkapp, favourable irradiance/mixing regimes initiated net phytoplankton growth in ice-free waters on the shelf and in stretches of open water over the partially ice-covered deep ocean. Chi a concentrations in the upper water column were moderate (0.2–0.8 g l–1), but significantly above winter values. Later in the season (16 Feb–11 March), a phytoplankton bloom with surface Chl a concentrations ranging from 1.6–2.3 g l–1 was encountered in an area further to the east. We suggest that the upper water column must have been stratified in this region for time scales of weeks to faciliate bloom development. Bacterial biomass and productivity generally paralleled the seasonal development of the phytoplankton. Nitrate concentrations in the upper mixed layer were substantially lower than would be expected from the existing phytoplankton standing stock, suggesting that heterotrophic consumption of organic matter by bacteria and zooplankton removed a large fraction of the primary production. The shallow seasonal pycnocline was eventually eroded by the passage of a storm, resulting in a homogeneous distribution of phytoplankton biomass over the entire water column, followed by sedimentation and deposition of phytodetritus on the sea floor. After the storm induced destratification, bacterial productivity was particularly high, amounting to more than half of the primary production (range: 10%–120%) in the upper water column. Subsequently, phytoplankton biomass in the upper water column decreased to values <1 g Chl a l–1. The combination of low incident irradiances and incessant deep mixing prevented the phytoplankton biomass to increase again. During the last week of the investigation, extensive new-ice formation was observed. A major fraction of the residual surface plankton was incorporated into new sea ice, thus terminating the pelagic growth season of the phytoplankton in the eastern Weddell Sea.  相似文献

Planktonic microbial interactions in the central basin of Lake Baikal were examined on a summer day in 1999. The subsurface maxima of bacterial abundance and chlorophyll concentration were recorded at the same depth, whereas the vertical distribution of heterotrophic nanoflagellates was the inverse of those of bacteria and picophytoplankton. Release of extracellular organic car-bon (EOC) from phytoplankton was estimated by the NaH14CO3 method as 2.4µgCl–1day–1. Bacterial production (4.3µgCl–1day–1), estimated in a bottle incubation experiment using size-fractionated water samples, exceeded the EOC released. Thus, other supplying sources of organic matter are needed for the bacterial production. Grazing (2.6µgCl–1day–1) was also estimated in the experiment and accounted for 60% of the bacterial production. This is the first report on the microbial food web in the central basin of Lake Baikal.  相似文献

Isolated embryos ofKarwinskia humboldtiana were cultured in vitro. The growth of embryos and development to plantlets on woody plant medium supplemented with indole-3-acetic acid 6.10-2 mol l–1, gibberellic acid (GA3) 3.10-2 mol l–1, and 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) 2 mol l–1 was obtained. Multiplication of shoots and rooting of excised shoots has been achieved. The effects of eight microelements (I, BO3 3–, MoO4 2–, Co2+, Cu2+, Mn2+, Fe2+, Zn2+) on the biosynthesis of camptothecin and the growth of suspension cultures of Camptotheca acuminata were studied. The increase of I to 25 M l–1, Cu2+ to 1 M l–1, Co2+ to 2 M l–1 and MoO4 2– to 10 M l–1 in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium resulted in 1.66, 2.84, 2.53 and 2.04 times higher of camptothecin yield than that in standard MS medium respectively. Combined treatment of I (25 M l–1), Cu2+ (1 M l–1), Co2+ (2 M l–1) and MoO4 2– (10 M l–1) lead to improve cell dry weight, camptothecin content, and camptothecin yield to 30.56 g l–1, 0.0299%, and 9.15 mg l–1, respectively, which were 20.2, 208.9 and 273.8% increment respectively when compared with those of control.  相似文献

We intended to evaluate the relative contribution of primary production versus allochthonous carbon in the production of bacterial biomass in a mesotrophic estuary. Different spatial and temporal ranges were observed in the values of bacterioplankton biomass (31–273 g C l–1) and production (0.1–16.0 g C l–1 h–1, 1.5–36.8 mg C m–2 h–1) as well as in phytoplankton abundance (50–1700 g C l–1) and primary production (0.1–512.9 g C l–1 h–1, 1.5–512.9 mg C m–2 h–1). Bacterial specific growth rate (0.10–1.68 d–1) during the year did not fluctuate as much as phytoplankton specific growth rate (0.02–0.74 d–1). Along the salinity gradient and towards the inner estuary, bacterio- and phytoplankton biomass and production increased steadily both in the warm and cold seasons. The maximum geographical increase observed in these variables was 12 times more for the bacterial community and 8 times more for the phytoplankton community. The warm to cold season ratios of the biological variables varied geographically and according to these variables. The increase at the warm season achieved its maximum in the biomass production, particularly in the marine zone and at high tide (20 and 112 times higher in bacterial and phytoplankton production, respectively). The seasonal variation in specific growth rate was most noticeable in phytoplankton, with seasonal ratios of 3–26. The bacterial community of the marine zone responded positively – generating seasonal ratios of 1–13 in bacterial specific growth rate – to the strong warm season increment in phytoplankton growth rate in this zone. In the brackish water zone where even during the warm season allochthonous carbon accounted for 41% (on average) of the bacterial carbon demand, the seasonal ratio of bacterial specific growth rate varied from about 1 to 2. During the warm season, an average of 21% of the primary production was potentially sufficient to support the whole bacterial production. During the cold months, however, the total primary production would be either required or even insufficient to support bacterial production. The estuary turned then into a mostly heterotrophic system. However, the calculated annual production of biomass by bacterio- and phytoplankton in the whole ecosystem showed that auto- and heterotrophic production was balanced in this estuary.  相似文献

The Rías Baixas are four flooded tectonic valleys located on the northwest Iberian Peninsula that support a mussel production of about 250 × 106 kg y–1 from 3337 mussel rafts. Mussel production in this region is the highest in Europe and one of the most intensive in the world, giving employment to 9000 people directly and 20000 indirectly. The causes of this high mussel production are discussed through the analysis of published and some unpublished information. The interaction between coastal upwelling and the circulation patterns in the Rías, which channel the 3-dimensional variability of the open ocean into a 2-dimensional system, promotes a massive response in the productivity of phytoplankton populations inside the Rías, even during weak upwelling events along the coast. Coastal upwelling in the area typically occurs between March–April and September–October. The mean value of gross primary production during the whole upwelling season is 1.4 g C m–2 d–1, although high sporadic values of 4 g C m–2 d–1 may occur during upwelling relaxation events, when phytoplankton export to the coastal shelf is restricted. Mussel growth occurs mainly during the upwelling season. It is estimated that mussel harvest extracts 10% of the primary production. The phytoplankton response to upwelling provides food of high quality (f 0.5) that determines high absorption efficiency (0.6), whereas the characteristics of the Rías maintains the seston concentration at levels (0.5 – 1.3 mg TPM l–1 and <5 mg Chl a m–3) below the threshold of pseudo-faeces production. The physiological behaviour of mussels indicates that the high yield of mussel culture in the Rías of Galicia is a consequence of the particular characteristics of the seston.  相似文献

Comparative limnology of Sambhar and Didwana lakes (Rajasthan,NW India)   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Two alkaline saline inland lakes of Indian arid region were studied during 1984 and 1985, to assess functioning and interaction of various environmental and biological factors. Changes in physical and chemical variables, planktonic composition, chlorophyll content and phytoplankton primary productivity were examined.Salinity in both lakes fluctuated from almost fresh water (1.80), to hypersaline (300) and acted as the main controlling factor for almost all the biotic parameters. Maximum total alkalinities were 2162 mg l–1 and 2090 mg l–1, respectively in Sambhar and Didwana lakes. Dissolved oxygen ranged from completely anoxic conditions to maxima of 11.68 and 7.29 mg 1–1, respectively in Sambhar and Didwana lakes. Nutrient enrichment in the lakes was low.The phytoplankton species composition of Sambhar lake was reduced from an earlier reported 20 genera to only 11 (Nostoc, Microcystis, Spirulina, Aphanocapsa, Oscillatoria, Merismopedia, Nitzschia, Navicula, Synedra, Cosmarium and Closterium). Phytoplankton of Didwana was composed of only 9 genera including Anabaena and Nodularia. Sambhar lake, which once contained Artemia, is now totally devoid of them. On the other hand, Artemia was the most dominant zooplankter in Didwana lake at a salinity range of 15–288. Other zooplankters such as Moina, Cyclops and Brachionus flourished at lower salinity levels in Didwana lake. The seasonal quantitative and qualitative phyto- and zooplankton changes in relation to salinity are documented.  相似文献

The brine shrimp, most probably Artemia franciscana occurs in the solar salt plant (`salina') of Pichilingue (24°15N and 110°20W, total area about 10 ha), Baja California Sur, México. During the periods September 1999 to March 2000 and June 2000 to March 2001, salinity and temperature were determined weekly in selected evaporation ponds, as were the biological parameters of Artemia biomass, size of adult females and males, and monthly the biochemical composition of dried Artemia biomass. An explosive growth of Artemia was observed during moderate salinity levels (80–120 g l–1), reaching a standing crop level of 300 kg wet weight ha–1. With increasing salinity, biomass production and the size, especially of the females, decreased drastically, probably due to limited availability of natural food and to environmental stress. Brine shrimp survived up to a salinity of 270 g l–1. Despite wide variations in the environmental conditions, the proximate analysis of Artemia biomass showed only small differences, with the exception of the crude fibre content.  相似文献

The kinetic parameters of lipase, bacterial secondaryproduction (BSP) and bacterial numbers (BN) were determined fortnightlyduringthe development of the summer phytoplankton bloom at twostationsof Alte Donau, a hypertrophic stagnant dead arm of the riverDanubein Vienna. Until the middle of August we observed a gradualincrease in lipase activity as well as BN and BSP rates tothe maximum of 19.9 nmol l–1 h–1,4.5×109cells l–1 and 8.1 g C l–1 h–1,respectively. Atthe end of August and during September we found a markeddecreasein all bacterial parameters, coinciding with a progressingincreaseof chlorophyll a concentrations at both sampling sites. Themaximalvalues of lipase Vmax were determined in the bottom waterlayer (avg. 13.7±6.5 nmol l–1 h–1) probablyowingto the predominating importance of polymeric matter in thesubstrate pool for microheterotrophs in this water zone.Differential filtration experiments showed that 20.1% to56.3% ofthe total lipase activity and 4.2% to 9.0% of the totalbacterialnumbers in Alte Donau water samples occurred in 0.2-mfiltrate. Further experiments indicated that the highcontributionto lipase activity in the 0.2-m filtrate was rather dueto thepresence of 0.2 m filterable bacteria than to solubleenzymemolecules. Moreover, we observed higher bacterial lipaseactivityin 0.2 m filtrate than in unfiltered samples. Thepossibleinfluence of limiting factors on the metabolism of insitubacteria is discussed.  相似文献

We studied the effect of triacontanol (TRIA) on shoot multiplication and rooting of in vitro derived shoot tips of Capsicum frutescens and Decalepis hamiltonii W & A. In both shoot multiplication and rooting phases, TRIA was administered at 2-20 g l–1. TRIA resulted in highest promotion of axillary shoot proliferation at 2 g l–1 in Capsicum frutescens and 20 g l–1 in Decalepis hamiltonii while rooting was maximum at 5 and 10 g l–1 for Capsicum frutescens and Decalepis hamiltonii respectively. TRIA enhanced shoot growth and chlorophyll content of leaves and also influenced root induction and supported growth of the roots. This work reveals that TRIA can be used as an effective growth regulator in the micropropagation of Capsicum frutescens and Decalepis hamiltonii, an endangered shrub of Deccan peninsular India.  相似文献

A micropropagation protocol of Bupleurum fruticosumL. was developed, in order to obtain a great number of plants for the production of secondary metabolites. The combination of 1.0 mg l–1 indole-3-acetic acid and 1.5 mg l–1 6-benzyladenine added to Murashige–Skoog medium resulted in the best multiplication. Root formation gave the same results in hormone-free medium and in the medium to which various concentrations of 1-naphthaleneacetic acid had been added. In both the multiplication and the rooting phase, 2, 5, 10 and 20 g l–1 triacontanol were applied. After 4 weeks of culture, the number of shoots and nodes and the fresh weight were measured in the multiplication phase. Root number, shoot length, node number and fresh weight were determined in the root induction phase, while chlorophyll content was measured in both phases. In the multiplication phase 2 g l–1 triacontanol was found to be the optimal concentration, the same as was the case in the rooting phase, except for the production of epigeous structures, for which the optimal concentration was 10 g l–1.  相似文献

The mechanism of uptake of water-insoluble -sitosterol by a newly isolated strain of Arthrobacter simplex SS-7 was studied. The production of an extracellular sterol-pseudosolubilizing protein during growth of A. simplex on -sitosterol was demonstrated by isolating the factor from the cell-free supernatant and its subsequent purification by Sephadex G-150 column chromatography. The M r of the purified sterol-pseudosolubilizing protein determined by SDS–PAGE was 19kDa. The rate of sterol pseudosolubilization (5.2×10–3g l–1h–1) could not adequately account for the rate of sterol uptake (72×10–3g l–1h–1) and the specific growth rate (56×10–3 h–1). However in the unfavourable growth condition, when the cells were treated with sodium azide at the level of 30–60% of MIC, the sterol pseudosolubilization accounted for nearly 74% of the total growth containing 96% free cells. Cellular adherence to substrate particles was found to play an active role in the normal growth of the strain on -sitosterol. Unlike sodium acetate-grown cells, whose surface activity was negligible (60mNm–1), the sterol-grown cells had strong surface activity (40mNm–1). The high lipid content and long chain fatty acids in the cell-wall of -sitosterol-grown cells probably contribute to the high sterol adherence activity of the cells.  相似文献

Lactobacillus helveticus grown in milk with pH control at 6.2 had a slower growth rate (=0.27 h–1) and produced less exopolysaccharide (49 mg l–1) but increased lactic acid production (425 mM) compared to cultures without pH control (=0.5 h–1, 380 mg exopolysaccharide l–1, and 210 mM lactate), respectively. Both cultures displayed a mixed-acid fermentation with formation of acetate, which is linked not only to citrate metabolism, but also to alternative pathways from pyruvate.  相似文献

Certain yeast cells on solid nutrient medium produced colonies surrounded by a light zone of selenite absorption. This screening procedure resulted in the selection of 22 strains out of 200 isolates with different Se4+-absorbing capacity ranging from 16 to 98.8 g Se4+ g–1 l–1 h–1. The highest rate of Se4+ elimination from the Na2SeO3 solution was observed with an oval shaped, cream pigmented fermentative yeast, tentatively called Candida sp. strain MS4. This strain was isolated from wastewater and found to accumulate selenium oxyanions. Se4+ uptake involved both inactive and active phenomena. The amounts of selenium (initial concentration 2 mg Se4+ l–1) removed from aqueous solution by inactive and active phenomena were 667 g Se4+ g–1 l–1, and 1580 g Se4+ g–1 l–1, respectively. The strain also removed selenate inactively (135 g Se6+ g–1 l–1).  相似文献

Summary The neurohypophysis of sexually mature male and female Acipenser güldenstädti Brandt and Acipenser stellatus Pallas was studied light and electron microscopically. The recessus hypophysei lined with ependymal cells of two main types, narrow and wide, are in the center of the neurohypophysial roots. Processes from both cell types run radially to the basement membrane of the connective tissue layers abutting on the hypophysial intermediate lobe. Protrusions penetrating deep into the recessus hypophyseus are found in the apical parts of the wide cells. Pituicytes are rare in the neurohypophysis. The ultrastructure of both ependymal cell types and of the pituicytes is described. Nonmyelinated Gomori-positive (peptidergic) neurosecretory A1 and A2 type fibres and their terminals containing elementary neurosecretory granules (1400–1800 Å and 1000–1400 Å respectively) are the main structural elements of the neurohypophysis. Some dark and single myelinated neurosecretory fibres have been found. The adrenergic fibres (type B) were described earlier (Polenov et al., 1972a). The structural peculiarities of the neurohypophysis are discussed in functional and comparative-morphological terms.  相似文献

The production of erythritol and the erythritol yield from glucose by Torula sp. were improved, in increasing order, by supplementing with 10 mg MnSO44H2O l–1, 2 mg CuSO45H2O l–1, and both 10 mg MnSO44H2O l–1 and 2 mg CuSO45H2O l–1. Mn2+ decreased the intracellular concentration of erythritol, whereas Cu2+ increased the activity of erythrose reductase in cells. These results suggest that Mn2+ altered the permeability of cells, whereas Cu2+ increased the activity of erythrose reductase in cells.  相似文献
