High-NaCl diets elevate arterial pressure in NaCl-sensitive individuals, and increases in plasma sodium may trigger this effect. The present study tests the hypotheses that 1) plasma sodium displays a circadian rhythm in rats, 2) the plasma sodium rhythm is disturbed in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), and 3) excess dietary NaCl elevates plasma sodium concentration in SHR. The results demonstrate that plasma sodium has a circadian rhythm that is inversely related to the circadian rhythm of arterial pressure. Although the plasma sodium rhythms of SHR and control rats are nearly identical, the plasma sodium concentrations are significantly higher in SHR throughout the 24-h cycle. Maintenance on a high-NaCl diet increases plasma sodium concentration similarly in both SHR and control rats, but it blunts the plasma sodium rhythm only in SHR. These results demonstrate that in rats, plasma sodium has a circadian rhythm and that high-NaCl diets increase plasma sodium concentration.  相似文献

The energy that can be released in plasma due to the onset of instability (the excess plasma energy) is estimated. Three potentially unstable plasma states are considered, namely, plasma with an anisotropic Maxwellian velocity distribution of plasma particles, plasma with a two-beam velocity distribution, and an inhomogeneous plasma in a magnetic field with a local Maxwellian velocity distribution. The excess energy can serve as a measure of the degree to which plasma is nonequilibrium. In particular, this quantity can be used to compare plasmas in different nonequilibrium states.  相似文献

Diurnal changes in plasma ANF and AVP levels were investigated in four calves under standardized conditions. Both levels in plasma were measured at hourly intervals for 24 h along with arterial blood pressure, blood haematocrit, plasma cGMP, sodium, potassium, osmolality, proteins and albumin. Plasma ANF exhibited a first peak at mid-day while plasma AVP was low and a second peak at evening while plasma AVP was high. Changes in plasma cGMP correlated with variations in plasma ANF. feeding and/or plasma volume elevation probably accounted for both peaks in plasma ANF and the low mid-day level of plasma AVP, but the rise in plasma AVP at evening may represent a diurnal rhythm.  相似文献

Epidemiological evidence has raised concern that a moderate elevation in body iron stores may increase oxidative stress and risk of heart disease. We examined the cross-sectional association between plasma iron and factors that could affect its levels (antioxidant enzymes, diet), with the concentration of plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) as a marker of lipid peroxidation. Participants were 162 non-smoking institutionalised elderly. Our results show that those in the highest tertile of plasma iron were at least twice as likely to have higher plasma MDA levels. Among the factors affecting plasma iron levels, we found that the upper tertile of erythrocyte-superoxide dismutase (E-SOD) was inversely associated with higher plasma iron, and potato intake explained a sizeable proportion of the variation in plasma iron levels. In addition to potatoes, eggs, wine, fruit in men and green vegetables in women showed a positive association with plasma iron levels. Only potatoes in both sexes, wine in men and eggs in women had an independent effect on plasma MDA. Potatoes, wine, plasma lycopene and plasma iron accounted for 43% of the variability in plasma MDA for males, and E-SOD, potatoes, eggs, plasma lycopene and plasma iron explained 45% for women. A longitudinal study should confirm, whether these MDA levels are related to morbidity and mortality.  相似文献

The initial stage of the one-dimensional expansion of a hot electron cloud into a “warm” plasma (i.e., into a plasma with a finite electron temperature) is studied with allowance for plasma turbulence. It is shown that, in a nonturbulent plasma or in a plasma with sufficiently weak turbulence, counterstreaming warm plasma flows interpenetrate one another; in this process, the plasma flows are accelerated and form beams escaping from the heating region. A stronger turbulence gives rise to electron heat waves that also propagate away from the heating region.  相似文献

It is shown that a short laser pulse propagating in a plasma with electron density fluctuations can emit electromagnetic waves with frequencies much lower than the laser carrier frequency. Emissions with frequencies close to the plasma frequency and the doubled plasma frequency in a nonisothermal plasma, as well as emission generated in a turbulent plasma, are examined. The effects in question are related to the transformation of the laser pulse wakefield into electromagnetic radiation by electron density fluctuations. The phenomenon under study opens new possibilities for diagnostics of both plasma fields excited by laser pulses and electron density fluctuations in a plasma.  相似文献

Studies demonstrating benzodiazepine-induced reductions in plasma norepinephrine (NE) have assumed that changes in circulating plasma NE closely parallel changes in sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity and that benzodiazepines suppress SNS outflow. However, decreases in plasma NE could also result from increased removal of NE from plasma via neuronal uptake or tissue metabolism. This study used a tritiated norepinephrine ([3H] NE) isotope dilution technique for measurement of plasma NE kinetics to determine if the fall in plasma NE induced by a single dose of diazepam orally administered to eight psychiatrically-healthy volunteers was due to a fall in plasma NE appearance rate or an increase in plasma NE removal. Diazepam decreased plasma NE appearance, but not clearance, and also decreased plasma epinephrine and mean arterial pressure, memory performance and alertness. Plasma levels of diazepam were correlated with drug effects on memory and alertness but not cardiovascular or SNS effects.  相似文献

Comparative studies on platelet responses in citrated, hirudin and heparin plasma were carried out. The adhesion of 111In-labelled rabbit platelets to the subendothelium of rabbit aorta was more pronounced in hirudin plasma than in heparin and citrated plasma. There were no significant differences in the collagen-induced aggregation and secretion of 14C-serotonin of human blood platelets in the three plasma samples. The extent of the ADP-induced aggregation was nearly the same in the three plasma samples, however, the aggregation was reversible in hirudin plasma. Adrenaline induced a small primary aggregation in hirudin plasma whereas in citrated and in heparin plasma the aggregation was a biphasic one. Secretion of 14C-serotonin induced by ADP or adrenaline occurred in citrated plasma only. Hirudin proved to be a suitable anticoagulant for studying platelet functions at physiological calcium concentrations.  相似文献

In this study, the long-term (6 months) biochemical effects of varying levels of Catha edulis leaves on the plasma concentration of glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, total protein, albumin, uric acid, urea and creatinine were examined. Our results demonstrated a significant decrease in plasma cholesterol throughout the treatment period by all levels of C. edulis leaves tested. This significant decrease in plasma cholesterol was halved at the end of the treatment period and corresponded with a significant increase in plasma HDL-cholesterol and a significant decrease in plasma glucose and triglycerides concentrations. Moreover, C. edulis treatment increased plasma uric acid significantly, in a time-dependent manner with the higher concentrations (20% and 30%) of C. edulis leaves. Only plasma albumin was decreased significantly at the end of the treatment period, with no significant effect on plasma total protein. This also coincided with a significant, dose-dependent decrease in plasma urea at month 6, with no significant effect on plasma creatinine concentration.  相似文献

Infective larvae of Anyclostoma braziliense were tested for orientational response to rat plasma, to mouse plasma, to rat plasma fractions, and to salts. A high percentage of larvae accumulated at sources of rat plasma, mouse plasma, rat plasma diffusate, concentrated rat plasma dialysate, and some salts, notably sodium chloride. Because sodium chloride is present at an effective concentration in mammalian plasma, and because this salt may form a gradient between the blood and the skin surface, sodium chloride from the blood may direct the penetrating larvae through host's skin. Preliminary tracking of the larvae in gradients of rat plasma and of sodium chloride suggests that orientation to sources of these attractants was via a taxis, possibly a klinotaxis, whereas accumulation at these sources was via a klinokinesis.  相似文献

Thrombotest clotting times of mixtures of coumarin plasmas and normal plasma yielded a patterm similar to that observed in mixtures of plasma with congenital coagulation disorders and normal plasma. The presence of 10 or 20% of test plasma in the mixture failed to affect the clotting times which resulted in normal limits. The only exception to this rule was the hemophilia BM plasma. In this case even the presence of 10-20% of patient plasma in the mixture caused a prolongation of the clotting time. This indicates that no inhibitor is present in coumarin plasmas and in the plasma of congenital coagulation disorders of the prothrombin complex save for hemophilia BM plasma which does contain an inhibitor.  相似文献

Water-restricted rats exhibit a rapid decrease in plasma corticosterone after drinking. The present study examined the effect of restriction-induced drinking on plasma aldosterone and plasma clearance of corticosterone. Rats were water restricted for 6-7 days and then killed before or 15 min after water administration; plasma and adrenal hormones were assayed. Plasma and adrenal corticosterone decreased after drinking without a change in plasma corticosteroid-binding globulin; plasma ACTH decreased or did not change. In contrast, plasma aldosterone did not change or increased after drinking; plasma renin activity was elevated by water restriction and increased further after drinking. In another experiment, rats were adrenalectomized, and corticosterone and aldosterone were replaced with pellets and osmotic minipumps, respectively. Rats were water restricted and killed. There was a small decrease in plasma corticosterone but no change in aldosterone after drinking in adrenalectomized animals. These data suggest that changes in plasma steroids after restriction-induced drinking result from zone-specific responses of the adrenal to known secretagogues, with minimal contribution from increased plasma clearance.  相似文献

The basal and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH)-induced plasma concentrations of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) were studied in four anestrous and four ovariectomized (OVX) bitches. Blood samples were obtained via jugular venipuncture 40min before and 0, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120min after the i.v. administration of synthetic GnRH in a dose of 10microg/kg body weight. The basal plasma FSH and LH concentrations were significantly higher in the OVX bitches than in the anestrous bitches. In the anestrous bitches, the plasma FSH concentration was significantly higher than the pretreatment level at 10, 20, and 30min, whereas the plasma LH concentration was significantly elevated at 10 and 20min. The maximal GnRH-induced plasma FSH concentration in the anestrous bitches did not surpass the lowest plasma FSH concentration in the OVX bitches, whereas the GnRH-induced plasma LH concentrations in the anestrous bitches overlapped with the basal plasma LH concentrations in the OVX bitches. In the OVX bitches, GnRH administration did not induce a significant change in the plasma FSH concentration, whereas the plasma LH concentration increased significantly at 10 and 20min. In conclusion, the results of the present study indicate that in anestrous bitches GnRH challenge results in increased plasma levels of both FSH and LH, whereas in the OVX bitches, in which the basal plasma FSH and LH concentrations are higher, only a rise in the plasma LH concentration is present after GnRH stimulation. The results also suggest that a test to measure plasma concentration of FSH in single samples appears to have potential in verification of neuter status in bitches.  相似文献

Abstract: In adult New Zealand white rabbits, the effects of food deprivation and of massive elevations of plasma uridine or thymidine concentrations on CSF and plasma nucleoside and oxypurine concentrations were studied. Nucleoside and oxypurine levels were determined by high performance liquid chromatography using unequivocal methods of compound identification. After 48 and 96 h of food deprivation, the concentrations of uridine, cytidine, inosine, thymidine, deoxycytidine, deoxyuridine, hypoxanthine, xanthine, and uric acid in CSF and plasma were not different than in controls, except at 96 h, when the plasma uridine concentration was 35% lower (p < 0.05). After elevation of the plasma and CSF thymidine concentrations to ∼200 and 100 μM, respectively, with intravenous thymidine for 5 h, there was a large increase in CSF and plasma thymine to ∼100 μM and a smaller increase in plasma and CSF deoxyuridine concentrations. After elevation of the plasma and CSF uridine concentrations to 0.6 and 0.2 mM, respectively, there was a large increase in CSF and plasma uracil and a smaller increase in plasma and CSF deoxyuridine concentrations. Elevated plasma concentration of thymidine and uridine significantly decreased the CSF to plasma ratios of deoxyuridine and thymidine; however, only elevated plasma uridine concentrations decreased the CSF to plasma ratio of uridine. These results document the powerful homeostatic mechanisms that regulate the concentrations of the principal nucleosides and oxypurine bases in CSF.  相似文献

Abstract

Liver glycogen, liver lipid, liver triglycerides, plasma glucose, plasma total lipid, plasma cholesterol, plasma corticoids, hypothalamic serotonin and pituitary pro‐lactin levels were assayed at five times over a 24‐h period in Carassius auratus maintained under a specific photoperiod regime at various times throughout the year. Diurnal variations were observed in all parameters monitored. Daily variations of liver glycogen, plasma glucose, plasma lipid, plasma corticoids and hypothalamic serotonin were affected by time of feeding. Liver glycogen, plasma lipid and plasma corticoid levels were also affected by time of feeding. Diurnal variations of liver glycogen, plasma glucose and plasma lipid were influenced by light‐dark cycles. These data illustrate that feeding time, photoperiod and time of sacrifice are important considerations in the study of metabolic and hormonal parameters in fishes.  相似文献

A new type of plasma source with titanium hydride granules used as a hydrogen accumulator was employed to inject a dense, highly ionized plasma jet into the Globus-M spherical tokamak. The experiments have shown that the jet penetrates through the tokamak magnetic field and increases the plasma density, without disturbing the stability of the plasma column. It is found that, when the plasma jet is injected before a discharge, more favorable conditions (as compared to those during gas puffing) are created for the current ramp-up at a lower MHD activity in the plasma column. Plasma injection at the instant of maximum current results in a more rapid growth in the plasma density in comparison to gas puffing.  相似文献

Spontaneous fibrinolysis of plasma clots was studied by following the lysis of the clots formed in 125I-fibrinogen-supplemented citrated plasma. Lysis of the clots invariably follows sigmoidal kinetics with S50 (the time required for 50% clot lysis) ranging from 3.5 to 4.7 days in 8 samples of pooled blood bank plasma and in the majority of apparently healthy donor plasmas. The spontaneous lysis of factor XII-deficient and prekallikrein-deficient plasmas was found to be similar to that of normal plasma. Addition of ellagic acid or antibodies against kallikrein or urokinase to normal pooled plasma did not alter significantly its rate of spontaneous lysis. On the other hand the addition of antibody against tissue activator (t-PA) inhibited over 80% of the spontaneous fibrinolysis in a 7-day incubation period at 37 degrees C, and the clot visually persisted for more than a month. Therefore, the factor XII-dependent components and prourokinase/urokinase system do not contribute significantly in whole plasma fibrinolysis in vitro, while the t-PA-related protein appears to be the major plasminogen activator responsible for initiating spontaneous fibrinolysis in whole plasma. Exogenous addition of increasing amounts of purified HeLa cell t-PA to normal pooled plasma in the ng/ml range cause progressively faster clot lysis. By extrapolation, normal pooled plasma is found to contain endogenous tissue activator in an amount functionally equivalent to 2 ng/ml of purified 60-kDa t-PA. The molecular nature of the t-PA-related proteins in plasma was studied by zymographic and immunological methods. The major t-PA-related protein in plasma was found to have a molecular mass of 100 kDa as determined by zymography. By incubating purified HeLa 60-kDa t-PA with a t-PA-depleted plasma, the 100-kDa component can be generated in plasma, suggesting that the latter is formed as a result of the binding of 60-kDa t-PA to a binding protein in plasma.  相似文献

The principal feature of this experiment is the electron showers consisting of three tungsten wires embedded by the plasma, which are heated up consequently emitting electrons inside the diffused plasma to control the plasma parameters in the discharge section of a double plasma device. These cold electrons emitted by the heated filament are free from maintenance of discharge which is sustained in the source section. The target plasma, where electrons are injected is produced as a result of diffusion from the source section. It is found that, plasma density and plasma potential can be effectively controlled in this way.  相似文献

Experiments were performed to characterize plasma lipid transfer protein activity (LTA), and the rate of [3H]CE transfer from HDL to lower density lipoproteins in plasma of hamsters. Compared to rabbits, hamster plasma has about one-tenth the level of d greater than 1.21 LTA but a relatively high level of VLDL-triacylglycerols, and a higher fractional rate of HDL-[3H]CE transfer in plasma (in vitro) than predicted by the d greater than 1.21 LTA. Like the rat, hamster plasma contains an inhibitor(s) of LTA; the level of the inhibitor activity in d greater than 1.21 g/ml plasma was similar in normal and hyperlipoproteinemic hamsters. Hypertriglyceridemia in sucrose-fed hamsters did not affect LTA, cholesteryl ester transfer or the plasma level of HDL-CE. However, a comparable degree of hypercholesterolemia was associated with a 122% increase in plasma d greater than 1.21 LTA and a 63% increase in the fractional rate of [3H]CE transfer from HDL to lower density lipoproteins in plasma. Cholesterol feeding in hamsters was associated with increased plasma levels of LDL-cholesterol and, to a lesser extent, with VLDL- and IDL-cholesterol.  相似文献

Phenomena accompanying the injection of a dense plasma beam from the payload of a rocket into ionospheric plasma are analyzed. The dynamics of both the quasineutral plasma beam and the beam-induced disturbances in the ionospheric plasma are investigated. It is shown that the electric field in the beam has a complicated structure, which leads to the generation of currents in both the beam and the ambient ionospheric plasma. The transverse size of the disturbance zone in the ionospheric plasma is found to greatly exceed the beam diameter. The proposed model of the current closing in the ionospheric plasma agrees well with the experimental data. The xenon beam temperature at moderate distances from the injector is determined by using the plasma shadow theory. It is found that the ion beam temperature is at least four times lower than the plasma temperature in the injection zone. This unexpected result is explained by the adiabatic cooling of the current system. The critical radius beyond which a constant temperature in the beam is established is found to be less than 11 m.  相似文献
