Head-out water immersion (HOI) induces a profound diuresis and natriuresis, which may endanger the body fluid balance of breath-hold divers during prolonged diving work. To investigate if adaptation is acquired by professional breath-hold divers, we have evaluated renal responses to 3-h HOI in 5 Korean women divers (Amas) and 11 nondiving housewives (controls). In both control and diver groups, the average urine flow during 3-h immersion was four times greater and Na+ excretion was 70%–80% greater than the pre-immersion value [urine flow: 3.7 (SD 1.0) ml·min–1 vs 0.9 (SD 0.4), P<0.001, in controls; 4.3 (SD 0.9) vs 1.1 (SD 0.4), P<0.001, in divers; Na+ excretion: 270 (SD 176) mol· min–1 vs 161 (SD 84), P<0.025, in controls; 303 (SD 31) vs 164 (SD 62), P<0.005, in divers]. In all cases, the values for a given period were not significantly different between the two groups. The plasma concentrations of Na+ and osmolality, and renal clearance of creatinine did not change significantly. However, the osmolal clearance increased [from 2.0 (SD 0.8) ml·min–1 to 2.8 (SD 0.7), P<0.05, in the controls; from 2.2 (SD 0.4) to 2.6 (SD 0.4), P<0.05, in the divers] and free water clearance changed from negative to positive values [from -1.1 (SD 0.5) ml·min–1 to 1.2 (SD 0.3), P<0.005, in the controls; from -1.2 (SD 0.4) to 1.6 (SD 1.1), P<0.01, in the divers] during immersion, again the pattern of change being similar in the two groups. It was, therefore, concluded from our study that the renal response to HOI was unchanged in the Korean women professional breath-hold divers compared to the nondiving women.  相似文献

The killing of Candida species by human neutrophils in a long-term 24-h assay and possible synergy with fluconazole (FCZ) for killing was investigated. The test medium (TM) consisted of RPMI-1640, penicillin and streptomycin (P/S), and 10% fresh autologous serum. TM alone was highly fungistatic for Candida species compared to TM without serum. When neutrophils were cocultured in TM with Candida species for 24 h the inoculum colony-forming units (CFU) were always significantly reduced (killing) by 58 to 99%. FCZ was tested over a range of 1–500 g/ml, and though almost always fungistatic itself, it synergized with neutrophils for significantly increased killing of C. albicans (isolate Sh27) (P<0.01) and C. albicans (isolate 94-20) (P<0.05). Killing of non-albicans Candida species was so efficient in the absence of FCZ that demonstration of synergy with FCZ was difficult.  相似文献

These studies investigated the effects of 2 weeks of either a high-fat (HIGH-FAT: 70% fat, 7% CHO) or a high-carbohydrate (HIGH-CHO: 74% CHO, 12% fat) diet on exercise performance in trained cyclists (n = 5) during consecutive periods of cycle exercise including a Wingate test of muscle power, cycle exercise to exhaustion at 85% of peak power output [90% maximal oxygen uptake ( O2max), high-intensity exercise (HIE)] and 50% of peak power output [60% O2max, moderate intensity exercise (MIE)]. Exercise time to exhaustion during HIE was not significantly different between trials: nor were the rates of muscle glycogen utilization during HIE different between trials, although starting muscle glycogen content was lower [68.1 (SEM 3.9) vs 120.6 (SEM 3.8) mmol · kg –1 wet mass, P < 0.01] after the HIGH-FAT diet. Despite a lower muscle glycogen content at the onset of MIE [32 (SEM 7) vs 73 (SEM 6) mmol · kg –1 wet mass, HIGH-FAT vs HIGH-CHO, P < 0.01], exercise time to exhaustion during subsequent MIE was significantly longer after the HIGH-FAT diet [79.7 (SEM 7.6) vs 42.5 (SEM 6.8) min, HIGH-FAT vs HIGH-CHO, P<0.01]. Enhanced endurance during MIE after the HIGH-FAT diet was associated with a lower respiratory exchange ratio [0.87 (SEM 0.03) vs 0.92 (SEM 0.02), P<0.05], and a decreased rate of carbohydrate oxidation [1.41 (SEM 0.70) vs 2.23 (SEM 0.40) g CHO · min–1, P<0.05]. These results would suggest that 2 weeks of adaptation to a high-fat diet would result in an enhanced resistance to fatigue and a significant sparing of endogenous carbohydrate during low to moderate intensity exercise in a relatively glycogen-depleted state and unimpaired performance during high intensity exercise.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the thermoregulatory changes induced by 27-h of sleep deprivation (SD) in men at rest both in a comfortable ambient temperature and in cold air. A group of 12 male subjects were placed in a comfortable ambient temperature (dry bulb temperature,T db = 25° C, relative humidity, rh = 40%–50% , clothing insulation = 1 clo) for 1 h and then they were submitted to a standard cold air test in a climatic chamber for 2h (T db=1° C, rh = 40%–50%, wind speed = 0.8 m·s–1, nude), before and after 27 h of sleep deprivation. Thermoregulatory changes (rectal temperature,T re; mean skin temperature, sk; metabolic heat production ) were monitored continuously. At comfortable ambient temperature, no significant change was observed after SD forT re, sk and . During the cold test,T re did not change but sk and were higher after SD (P<0.05). Increased (+ 6%,P < 0.05) was related to earlier and higher shivering, with a possible increase in the sensitivity of the thermoregulatory system as shown by the shorter time to onset of continous shivering (d): 8.66 (SEM 1.33) min versus 28.20 (SEM 1.33) min (P < 0.001) and by a higher sk observed at d: 27.60 (SEM 1.40)° C versus 21.40 (SEM 0.60)° C (P < 0.001). These results were associated with higher cold sensations and shivering following SD. They also suggested that SD modified thermoregulatory responses at a central level especially in a cold environment.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of a stimulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) activity induced by 2-chloropropionate (2-CP) on venous plasma lactate concentration and peak anaerobic power (W an, peak) during periods (6 s) of incremental intense exercise, i.e. a force-velocity (F-) test known to induce a marked accumulation of lactate in the blood. TheF- test was performed twice by six subjects according to a double-blind randomized crossover protocol: once with placebo and once with 2-CP (43 mg · kg–1 body mass). Blood samples were taken at ingestion of the drug, at 10, 20, and 40 Min into the pretest period, at the end of each period of intense exercise, at the end of each 5-min recovery period, and after completion of theF- test at 5, 10, 15, and 30 min. During theF- test, venous plasma lactate concentrations with both placebo and 2-CP increased significantly when measured at the end of each period of intense exercise (F = 33.5,P < 0.001), and each 5-min recovery period (F = 24.6,P < 0.001). Venous plasma lactate concentrations were significantly lower with 2-CP at the end of each recovery period (P < 0.01), especially for high braking forces, i.e. 8 kg (P < 0.05), 9 kg (P < 0.02), and maximal braking force (P < 0.05). After completion of theF- test, venous plasma lactate concentrations were also significantly lower with 2-CP (P < 0.001). The percentage of lactate decrease between 5- and 30-min recovery was significantly higher with 2-CP than with the placebo [59 (SEM 4)% vs 44.6 (SEM 5.5)%,P < 0.05]. Furthermore,W an, peak was significantly higher with 2-CP than with the placebo [1016 (SEM 60) W vs 957 (SEM 55) W,P < 0.05]. In conclusion, PDH activation by 2-CP attenuated the increase in venous plasma lactate concentration during theF- test. Ingestion of 2-CP led to an increasedW an, peak.  相似文献

A double-blind paired protocol was used to evaluate, in eight male volunteers, the effects of the endogenous opiate antagonist naloxone (NAL; 0.05 mg· kg–1) on cardiovascular responses to 50° head-up tilt-induced central hypovolaemia. Progressive central hypovolaemia was characterized by a phase of normotensive-tachycardia followed by an episode of hypotensive-bradycardia. The NAL shortened the former from 20 (8–40) to 5 (3–10) min (median and range; (P < 0.02). Control head-up tilt increased the means of thoracic electrical impedance [from 35.8 (SEM 2.1) to 40.0 (SEM 1.8) ; P < 0.01 of heart rate [HR; from 67 (SEM 5) to 96 (SEM 8) beats · min–1, P < 0.02], of total peripheral resistance [TPR; from 25.5 (SEM 3.2) to 50.4 (SEM 10.5)mmHg min 1–1,P < 0.05] and of mean arterial pressure [MAP; from 96 (SEM 2) to 101 (SEM 2)mmHg, P < 0.02]. Decreases were observed in stroke volume [from 65 (SEM 12) to 38 (SEM 9) ml, P < 0.01], in cardiac output [from 3.7 (SEM 0.7) to 2.5 (SEM 0.5) 1 · mint, P < 0.01], in pulse pressure [from 55 (SEM 4) to 37 (SEM 3)mmHg, P < 0.01] and in central venous oxygen saturation [from 73 (SEM 2) to 59 (SEM 4)%, P < 0.01]. During NAL, mean HR increased from 70 (SEM 3); n.s. compared to control) to only 86 (SEM 9) beats · min–1 (P < 0.02 compared to control) and MAP remained stable. The episode of hypotensive-bradycardia appeared as mean control HR decreased to 77 (SEM 7)beats · min–1, TPR to 31.4(SEM 7.7)mmHg · min · 1–1 and MAP to 60 (SEM 5)mmHg (P < 0.01), and the volunteers were tilted supine. Cardiovascular effects of naloxone on central hypovolaemia included a reduced elevation of HR and blood pressures and provocation of the episode of hypotensive-bradycardia.  相似文献

The liver is central to the metabolic response to exercise but measurements of effects of reduced liver function on the physiological adaptation to exercise are scarce. We investigated metabolic, endocrine, pulmonary and haemodynamic responses to exercise in 15 healthy untrained controls (Co) and in 30 subjects with reduced liver function (i.e. liver cirrhosis, Ci). The following protocols were used: protocol 1 maximal oxygen uptake and anaerobic threshold (AT), protocol 2 stepwise increases in exercise intensity from 0 to 40% giving steady-stage conditions, protocol 3 1 h exercise at 20% . Muscle glycogen content was determined in 15 Ci. Spirometry was essentially normal in Ci. Result: protocol 1 Ci had impaired and reduced AT (P < 0.05). Basal plasma concentrations of insulin, glucagon, growth hormone and adrenaline were increased in Ci (P < 0.05); cortisol was normal. During exercise, only glucagon remained different between groups. In protocol 2 Ci had decreased resting respiratory exchange ratio (RQ: p < 0.05) associated with increased plasma concentrations of free fatty acids and glycerol. They had disproportionately enhanced lipolysis and RQ. heart rate (+ 24%), ventilation (+ 28%), thermal effects of exercise (+ 31%) and intrapulmonary shunt volume (+ 76%), which accounted for 11.7 (SD 3.0) or 7.4 (SD 0.9%) of cardiac output during exercise in Ci and Co, respectively (P < 0.05 for all the differences reported). The metabolic effects of Ci were independent of the clinical and nutritional state of the patients. In protocol 3 muscle glycogen content was highly variable in Ci, but mean values were normal [16.9 (SD 8.9) mol·g–1 wet mass]. Glycogen content positively correlated with resting and exercise-induced RQ, but negatively correlated with the exercise-induced alterations in plasma glucose concentration. From these results we concluded that with reduced liver function , and AT are reduced, but metabolic, pulmonary and haemodynamic reponses per unit power output are enhanced. Muscle glycogen content would seem to contribute to the metabolic response, but its mobilization to be limited in individuals with reduced liver function.Dedicated to Professor D.F.W. The present investigation examined the relationship between CO2 sensitivity [at rest (S R) and during exercise (S E)] and the ventilatory response to exercise in ten elderly (61–79 years) and ten younger (17–26 years) subjects. The gradient of the relationship between minute ventilation and CO2 production ( E/ CO2) of the elderly subjects was greater than that of the younger subjects [mean (SEM); 32.8 (1.6) vs 27.3 (0.4); P<0.01]. At rest, S R was lower for the elderly than for the younger group [10.77 (1.72) vs 16.95 (2.13) 1 · min–1 · kPa–1; 1.44 (0.23) vs 2.26 (0.28) 1 · min–1 · mmHg–1; P<0.05], but S E was not significantly different between the two groups [17.85 (2.49) vs 19.17 (1.62) l · min–1 · kPa–1; 2.38 (0.33) vs 2.56 (0.21) 1 · min–1 · mmHg–1]. There were significant correlations between both S R and S E, and E/ CO2 (P<0.05; P<0.001) for the younger group, bot none for the elderly. The absence of a correlation for the elderly supports the suggestion that E/ CO2 is not an appropriate index of the ventilatory response to exercise for elderly humans.  相似文献

This study was designed to investigate in the saliva the influence in female athletes of handball or volleyball training on concentrations of cortisol [C], dehydroepiandrosterone [DHEA], and on the [DHEA]:[C] ratio over 16 weeks of training. Data were compared to those of sedentary women. Saliva samples were collected upon waking after an overnight fast during the 1st week (W1) of the training programme and in the 16th week (W16). The training programme increased the resting concentrations of saliva [DHEA] in all the sportswomen. In contrast, a decrease of [DHEA] was noted in the sedentary group (W16 < W1; P < 0.05). In none of the women did the [C] at rest change significantly during the study. Between W1 and W16, the [DHEA]:[C] ratio increased by more than 30% in all the sportswomen. In addition, the athletes with the highest performance levels and greatest amount of training had the lowest [DHEA]:[C] ratio. Negative linear relationships between the amount of training and the [DHEA]:[C] ratio were found both at W1 (r = −0.53 P < 0.001), and W16 (r=−0.73 P < 0.001), suggesting that the latter could be used as an indicator of the training status of sportswomen. We have previously observed that 11-year-old children of low socio-economic status (LSES) showed a delayed physical growth of approximately 2 years and developed lower normalized short-term power output than children of high socio-economic status (HSES) of the same age. In contrast, maximal oxygen uptake per unit of fat free mass was no different in either group. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of anthropometric characteristics between HSES and LSES prepubertal children in aerobic and anaerobic performance. To compare children of the same body dimensions, 11-year-old boys (n = 30) and girls (n = 31) of LSES and 9-year-old boys (n = 21) and girls (n = 27) of HSES were studied. Anthropometric measurements, (direct test), maximal anaerobic power (P max, force-velocity test) and mean anaerobic power ( , Wingate test) were determined. In these children having the same body dimensions: mean were the same in LSES and HSES children [1.2 (SD 0.2)1-min–1];P max and were lower in LSES subjects [154.0 (SD 33.2) vs 174.6 (SD 38.4) W and 116.3 (SD 23.3) vs 128.2 (SD 28.0) W, respectively]; the linear relationships between and fat free mass were the same in LSES and HSES boys but, in the girls, the LSES group had lower values. For anaerobic performance, the relationships were significantly different: the slopes were the same but LSES values for the both sexes were lower. These results would suggest that factors other than differences in body dimensions alone were responsible for the lower performance of LSES girls and boys. Cultural factors and motor learning, structural and functional alterations of muscle induced by marginal malnutrition have been discussed.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to determine the most appropriate duration for the measurement of the maximal accumulated O2 deficit (MAOD), which is analogous to the anaerobic capacity, to ascertain the effects of mass, fat free mass (FFM), leg volume (V leg) and lower body volume (V 1b) on anaerobic test performance, to examine the reproducibility for peak power output ( ) or maximal anaerobic power using an air-braked cycle ergometer and to produce approximations for the percentages of aerobic and anaerobic metabolism during exercise of short duration but high intensity. A group of 12 endurance trained cyclists [mean age 25.1 (SD 4.6) years; mean body mass 73.43 (SD 7.12) kg; mean maximal oxygen consumption 5.12 (SD 0.35) l·min–1; mean body fat 12.5 (SD 4.1) %] accordingly performed four counterbalanced treatments of 45, 60, 75 and 90 s of maximal cycling on an air-braked ergometer. The mean O2 deficit of 3.52 l for the 45-s treatment was significantly less (P < 0.01) than those for the 60 (3.75 l), 75 (3.80 l) and 90-s (3.75 l) treatments. These data therefore indicate that in predominantly aerobically trained subjects the O2 deficit attains a plateau after 60 s of maximal cycling on an air-braked ergometer. Statistically significant interclass correlation coefficients (P<0.05) between the anthropometric variables (mass, FFM, V leg and V1b) and or maximal anaerobic power (0.624–0.748) and MAOD (ml) or anaerobic capacity (0.666–0.772) furthermore would suggest the relevance of taking into account muscle mass during anaerobic tests. Intraclass correlation coefficients (0.935–0.946; all P<0.001) would indicate a high degree of reliability for the measurement of . The relative importance of anaerobic work decreased from 60% for the 45-s test to 40% for the 90-s one. Hence our study showed that both aerobic and anaerobic metabolism contributed significantly during all-out tests of 45–90 s duration.  相似文献

Candida albicans causes the majority of invasive candidiasis in immunocompromised adults while Candida parapsilosis is a leading cause of neonatal candidiasis. While much work has focused on how the immune system recognizes and responds to C. albicans, less is known about host interaction with C. parapsilosis. This study investigates the human neutrophil phagocytic response to these species. Neutrophils underwent phagocytosis of C. parapsilosis yeast and C. albicans hyphae much more efficiently than C. albicans yeast. Treatment of neutrophils with a galectin‐3 (gal3) blocking antibody inhibited phagocytosis of C. parapsilosis yeast and C. albicans hyphae, but not C. albicans yeast. The majority of neutrophil gal3 was expressed intracellularly and was secreted from neutrophils after treatment with C. parapsilosis mannan. When neutrophils were treated with exogenous gal3, phagocytosis of both C. albicans and C. parapsilosis yeast increased. Exposure of neutrophils to C. parapsilosis yeast increased phagocytosis of C. albicans yeast and was inhibited by gal3 blocking antibody. Taken together, these data indicate that gal3 secreted from neutrophils may act as a pro‐inflammatory autocrine/paracrine signal in neutrophil phagocytosis and suggest that gal3 has a unique role in neutrophil response to C. parapsilosis yeast and C. albicans hyphae distinct from C. albicans yeast.  相似文献

A meta-analysis was used to examine the independent and interactive effects of dietary restriction, endurance exercise training and gender on resting metabolic rate (RMR). Sixty different group means (covering 650 subjects) were identified from the scientific literature and subjected to meta-analysis techniques. Collectively (i.e., all groups combined), body weight loss was greater (P < 0.05) for men ( 18 kg) than for women ( 12 kg). There were no statistically significant exercise training or gender effects on RMR during weight loss. Collectively (i.e., all groups combined), dietary restriction resulted in a – 0.59 kJ min–1 ( – 12%) decrease in RMR (P < 0.05). When normalized to body weight, RMR was reduced by less than 2% (P < 0.05). These data suggest that exercise training does not differentially affect RMR during diet-induced weight loss. In addition, decreases in resting metabolism appear to be proportional to the loss of the metabolically active tissue.  相似文献

The study identified factors predisposing to non-albicans candidemia with special interest to prior antimicrobial treatment. A retrospective, case–case–control study was performed at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Greece, from November 2007 through September 2011 including adult patients. The study had three groups. The first included 58 patients with non-albicans candidemia, the second 48 with C. albicans candidemia, while the third (control) 104 without candidemia. Each of the two candidemia groups was compared with the control using multivariate logistic regression model. The mean (SD) age of the non-albicans, the albicans and the control patients was 67 (12), 67 (18) and 59 (19) years, respectively. The most common non-albicans Candida spp. isolated were C. parapsilosis in 19 patients (33%), C. glabrata in 17 (29%) and C. tropicalis in 15 (26%). Independent risk factors for non-albicans candidemia were prior treatment with quinolones (p < 0.001), b-lactam-b-lactamase inhibitors (p = 0.011) and presence of central venous catheter (p = 0.05), while for C. albicans candidemia were prior treatment with quinolones (p < 0.001), carbapenems (p = 0.003) along with cardiac disease (p < 0.001). Neither duration of hospitalization nor in-hospital mortality [41% for the non-albicans vs 29% for C. albicans group (p = 0.192)] was significantly different between the two candidemia groups. The study reveals the role of antimicrobial exposure as a risk factor for candidemia caused by different species. Prior treatment with b-lactam-b-lactamase inhibitors was associated with non-albicans, while with carbapenems with C. albicans candidemia. Prior use of quinolones was associated with candidemia in general.  相似文献

Four top-class runners who regularly performed marathon and long-distance races participated in this study. They performed a graded field test on an artificial running track within a few weeks of a competitive marathon. The test consisted of five separate bouts of running. Each period lasted 6 min with an intervening 2-min rest bout during which arterialized capillary blood samples were taken. Blood was analysed for pH, partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide (P02 and PCO2) and lactate concentration ([la]b). The values of base excess (BE) and bicarbonate concentration ([HCO3 ]) were calculated. The exercise intensity during the test was regulated by the runners themselves. The subjects were asked to perform the first bout of running at a constant heart rate f c which was 50 beats · min–1 below their own maximal f c. Every subsequent bout, each of which lasted 6 min, was performed with an increment of 10 beats · min–1 as the target f c. Thus the last, the fifth run, was planned to be performed with fc amounting to 10 beats · min–1 less than their maximal f c. The results from these runners showed that the blood pH changed very little in the bouts performed at a running speed below 100% of mean marathon velocity ( m). However, once mwas exceeded, there were marked changes in acid-base status. In the bouts performed at a velocity above the mthere was a marked increase in [la]b and a significant decrease in pH, [HCO3 ], BE and PCO2. The average marathon velocity ( m) was 18.46 (SD 0.32) km·h–1. The [la]b at a mean running velocity of 97.1 (SD 0.8) % of mwas 2.33 (SD 1.33) mmol ·l–1 which, compared with a value at rest of 1.50 (SD 0.60) mmol·l–1, was not significantly higher. However, when running velocity exceeded the vm by only 3.6 (SD 1.9) %, the [la]b increased to 6.94 (SD 2.48) mmol·l-1 (P<0.05 vs rest). We concluded from our study that the highest running velocity at which the blood pH still remained constant in relation to the value at rest and the speed of the run at which [la]b began to increase significantly above the value at rest is a sensitive indicator of capacity for marathon running.  相似文献

The degree to which the y-intercept (Y-int) of the linear regression of maximal work output on exercise duration represented anaerobic capacity was determined in ten well-trained male cyclists [peak oxygen uptake ( = 69.8 (SD 4.2) ml · kg –1 · min –1). Each cyclist performed three exhausting cycle sessions on separate occasions; the mean exercise durations were 312, 243 and 141 s for the low (approximately 104% , medium (approximately 108% and high (approximately 113% intensities respectively, and Y-int (kilojoules; joules per kilogram was derived from the regression of work output on exercise duration. The muscle anaerobic adenosine 5-triphosphate (ATP) yield (ATP) and anaerobic capacity (AC) were estimated from changes in metabolites in the vastus lateralis muscle and blood lactate concentration during the high intensity cycling session. The activities of glycogen phosphorylase, phosphofructokinase and citrate synthase, as well as muscle buffer value (in vitro ) were also determined. The Y-int (kilojoules) was positively correlated (P0.05) with AC (r=0.73), ATP (r=0.70) and in vitro (r=0.71); similar correlations (P0.05) were observed for Y-int (joules per kilogram). The Y-int was not correlated (P>0.05) with any enzyme activity. When the Y-int was transformed into oxygen equivalents [litres of oxygen equivalent (1 O2 Eq)] it was, on average, 0.92 1 O2 Eq lower than AC (P0.05); however, an alternative method of establishing the work-duration regression yielded a mean Y-int which was only 0.19 1 O2 Eq less than AC (P0.05). These findings support the validity of Y-int as a work estimate of anaerobic capacity in well-trained cyclists.  相似文献

Anti-Candida activity of murine neutrophils and its regulation by immunomodulators were studied in vitro. Murine neutrophils which were prepared from peritoneal-exudated cells inhibited the growth of Candida albicans at an effector: target (E/T) ratio of 30/1 or above. This anti-Candida activity of neutrophils was augmented by lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli, murine tumor necrosis factor (TNF), murine interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and murine granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) but not by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) added to the incubation medium. Greater extent of augmentation was obtained when TNF plus GM-CSF or INF-γ plus GM-CSF were used in combination. These results indicate that anti-Candida activity of murine neutrophils is regulated similarly to that of the human neutrophils reported previously. Therefore murine peritoneal neutrophils can be used as a favorable substitute for human neutrophils in studies on protective machinery against C. albicans infection.  相似文献

Red blood cell (RBC) susceptibility to oxidative and osmotic stress in vitro was investigated in cells from trained and untrained men before and after submaximal exercise. Whilst no significant change in peroxidative haemolysis occurred immediately after 1 h of cycling at 60% of maximal aerobic capacity ( max), a 20% increase was found 6 h later in both groups (P<0.05). The RBC osmotic fragility decreased by 15% immediately after exercise (P<0.001) and this was maintained for 6 h (Ps<0.001). There was an associated decrease in mean cell volume (P<0.05). Training decreased RBC susceptibility to peroxidative haemolysis (P<0.025) but it did not influence any other parameter. These exercise-induced changes were smaller in magnitude but qualitatively similar to those found in haemopathological states involving haem-iron incorporation into membrane lipids and the short-circuiting of antioxidant protection. To explore this similarity, a more strenuous and mechanically stressful exercise test was used. Running at 75% max for 45 min reduced the induction time of O2 uptake (peroxidation), consistent with reduced antioxidation capacity, and increased the maximal rate of O2 uptake in RBC challenged with cumene hydroperoxide (P<0.001). The proportion of high-density RBC increased by 10% immediately after running (P<0.001) but no change in membrane-incorporated haem-iron occurred. In contrast, treatment of RBC with oxidants (20–50 mol·l–1 in vitro increased cell density and membrane incorporation of haem-iron substantially. These results showed that single episodes of submaximal exercise caused significant changes in RBC susceptibility to oxidative and osmotic stress. Such responses may account for the increase in RBC turnover found in athletes undertaking strenuous endurance training.  相似文献

A possible relationship between aerobic fitness (AF), measured by maximal cycle ergometry (CE) and sympatho-adrenal response to acute, short lasting psycho-emotional stress was investigated by monitoring heart rate (f c) and excretion of catecholamines. The activation of the sympatho-adrenal system was characterised by the noradrenaline : adrenaline ratio. A group of 11 healthy men [22.8 (SD 2.52) years] lived under identical environmental conditions; their mean maximal oxygen uptake ( ) was 47.1 (SD 3.9) ml · min–1 · kg–1. After the physiological and psychological laboratory tests had been completed thef c of the subjects was monitored continuously during the guerilla slide and parachute jump by night, two emotionally stressful military tasks. Maximalf c (f c, max) attained during these events was 84.5% and 83% off c, max during CE (f c, max, CE), respectively. A significant relationship (r=–0.92,P<0.0002) betweenf c, max reached during the stressful tasks and was found only for the guerilla slide, which was preceded by physical strain, sleep deprivation and energy deficit. One subject with some prior experience in parachuting showed the lowestf c response and the lowest sympatho-adrenal activation in both events, independent of the degree of AF. In conclusion, AF was found to influence the sympatho-adrenal and fc response to acute, short-lasting emotional stress when the stressful event was aggravated by preceding physical strain, the magnitude of the stress response depending largely on individual experience and effective mechanisms for coping with specific stimuli.  相似文献
