Efficient dielectric scatterers based on a mixture of TiO2 nanoparticles and polydimethylsiloxane are demonstrated for light trapping in semitransparent organic solar cells. An improvement of 80% in the photocurrent of an optimized semitransparent solar cell is achieved with the dielectric scatterer with ≈100% diffuse reflectance for wavelengths larger than 400 nm. For a parallel tandem solar cell, the dielectric scatterer generates 20% more photocurrent compared with a silver mirror beneath the cell; for a series tandem solar cell, the dielectric scatterer can be used as a photocurrent balancer between the subcells with different photoabsorbing materials. The power conversion efficiency of the tandem cell in series configuration with balanced photocurrent in the subcells exceeds that of an optimized standard solar cell with a reflective electrode. The characteristics of polydimethylsiloxane, such as flexibility and the ability to stick conformably to surfaces, also remain in the dielectric scatterers, which makes the demonstrated light trapping configuration highly suitable for large scale module manufacturing of roll‐to‐roll printed organic single‐ or tandem‐junction solar cells.  相似文献

Semi‐transparent (ST) organic solar cells with potential application as power generating windows are studied. The main challenge is to find proper transparent electrodes with desired electrical and optical properties. In this work, this is addressed by employing an amphiphilic conjugated polymer PFPA‐1 modified ITO coated glass substrate as the ohmic electron‐collecting cathode and PEDOT:PSS PH1000 as the hole‐collecting anode. For active layers based on different donor polymers, considerably lower reflection and parasitic absorption are found in the ST solar cells as compared to solar cells in the standard geometry with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS anode and a LiF/Al cathode. The ST solar cells have remarkably high internal quantum efficiency at short circuit condition (~90%) and high transmittance (~50%). Hence, efficient ST tandem solar cells with enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to a single ST solar cell can be constructed by connecting the stacked two ST sub‐cells in parallel. The total loss of photons by reflection, parasitic absorption and transmission in the ST tandem solar cell can be smaller than the loss in a standard solar cell based on the same active materials. We demonstrate this by stacking five separately prepared ST cells on top of each other, to obtain a higher photocurrent than in an optimized standard solar cell.  相似文献

A three‐dimensional indium tin oxide (ITO) nanohelix (NH) array is presented as a multifunctional electrode for bulk heterojunction organic solar cells for simultaneously improving light absorption and charge transport from the active region to the anode. It is shown that the ITO NH array, which is easily fabricated using an oblique‐angle‐deposition technique, acts as an effective antireflection coating as well as a light‐scattering layer, resulting in much enhanced light harvesting. Furthermore, the larger interfacial area between the electrode and the active layer, together with the enhanced carrier mobility through highly conductive ITO NH facilitate transport and collection of charge carriers. The optical and electrical improvements enabled by the ITO NH electrode result in a 10% increase in short‐circuit current density and power‐conversion efficiency of the solar cells.  相似文献

Portable electronic devices have become increasingly widespread. Because these devices cannot always be tethered to a central grid, powering them will require low‐cost energy harvesting technologies. As a response to this anticipated demand, this study demonstrates transparent organic solar cells fabricated on flexible substrates, including plastic and paper, using graphene as both the anode and cathode. Optical transmittance of up to 69% at 550 nm is achieved by combining the highly transparent graphene electrodes with organic polymers that primarily absorb in the near‐IR and near‐UV regimes. To address the challenge of transferring graphene onto organic layers as the top electrode, this study develops a room temperature dry‐transfer technique using ethylene‐vinyl‐acetate as an adhesion‐promoting interlayer. The power conversion efficiency achieved for flexible devices with graphene anode and cathode devices is 2.8%–3.8% at for optical transmittance of 54%–61% across the visible regime. These results demonstrate the versatility of graphene in optoelectronic applications and it is important step toward developing a practical power source for distributed wireless electrical systems.  相似文献

Compared to inorganic semiconductors and/or fullerene derivatives, nonfullerene n‐type organic semiconductors present some advantages, such as low‐temperature processing, flexibility, and molecule structure diversity, and have been widely used in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this research news article, the recent advances in nonfullerene n‐type organic semiconductors which function as electron‐transporting, interface‐modifying, additive, and light‐harvesting materials in PSCs are summarized. The remaining challenges and promising future directions of nonfullerene‐based PSCs are also discussed.  相似文献

Organic solar cells that are free of burn‐in, the commonly observed rapid performance loss under light, are presented. The solar cells are based on poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) with varying molecular weights and a nonfullerene acceptor (rhodanine‐benzothiadiazole‐coupled indacenodithiophene, IDTBR) and are fabricated in air. P3HT:IDTBR solar cells light‐soaked over the course of 2000 h lose about 5% of power conversion efficiency (PCE), in stark contrast to [6,6]‐Phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)‐based solar cells whose PCE shows a burn‐in that extends over several hundreds of hours and levels off at a loss of ≈34%. Replacing PCBM with IDTBR prevents short‐circuit current losses due to fullerene dimerization and inhibits disorder‐induced open‐circuit voltage losses, indicating a very robust device operation that is insensitive to defect states. Small losses in fill factor over time are proposed to originate from polymer or interface defects. Finally, the combination of enhanced efficiency and stability in P3HT:IDTBR increases the lifetime energy yield by more than a factor of 10 when compared with the same type of devices using a fullerene‐based acceptor instead.  相似文献

Ternary strategies show over 16% efficiencies with increased current/voltage owing to complementary absorption/aligned energy level contributions. However, poor understanding of how the guest components tune the active layer structures still makes rational selection of material systems challenging. In this study, two phthalimide based ultrawide bandgap polymer donor guests are synthesized. Parallel energies between the highest occupied molecular orbitals of host and guest polymers are achieved via incorporating selnophene on the guest polymer. Solid‐state 19F magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic spectroscopy, graze‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, elemental transmission electron microscopy mapping, and transient absorption spectroscopy are combined to characterize the active layer structures. Formation of the individual guest phases selectively improves the structural order of donor and acceptor phase. The increased electron mobility in combination with the presence of the additional paths made by the guest not only minimizes the influence on charge generation and transport of the host system but also contributes to increasing the overall current generation. Therefore, phthalimide based polymers can be potential candidates that enable the simultaneous increase of open‐circuit voltage and short‐circuit current‐density via fine‐tuning energy levels and the formation of additional paths for enhancing current generation in parallel‐like multicomponent organic solar cells.  相似文献

Flexible and semitransparent organic solar cells (OSCs) have been regarded as the most promising photovoltaic devices for the application of OSCs in wearable energy resources and building‐integrated photovoltaics. Therefore, the flexible and semitransparent OSCs have developed rapidly in recent years through the synergistic efforts in developing novel flexible bottom or top transparent electrodes, designing and synthesizing high performance photoactive layer and low temperature processed electrode buffer layer materials, and device architecture engineering. To date, the highest power conversion efficiencies have reached over 10% of the flexible OSCs and 7.7% with average visible transmittance of 37% for the semitransparent OSCs. Here, a comprehensive overview of recent research progresses and perspectives on the related materials and devices of the flexible and semitransparent OSCs is provided.  相似文献

Next‐generation organic solar cells such as dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are studied at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), and their materials, electronic properties, and fabrication processes are investigated. To enhance the performance of DSSCs, the basic structure of an electron donor, π‐electron linker, and electron acceptor, i.e., D–π–A, is suggested. In addition, special organic dyes containing coumarin, carbazole, and triphenylamine electron donor groups are synthesized to find an effective dye structure that avoids charge recombination at electrode surfaces. Meanwhile, PSCs are manufactured using both a coating method and a laser deposition technique. The results of interfacial studies demonstrate that the level of the conduction band edge (CBE) of a compact TiO2 layer is shifted after TiCl4 treatment, which strongly affects the solar cell performance. Furthermore, a special laser deposition system is developed for the fabrication of the perovskite layers of PSCs, which facilitates the control over the deposition rate of methyl ammonium iodide used as their precursor.  相似文献

Tandem structure provides a practical way to realize high efficiency organic photovoltaic cells, it can be used to extend the wavelength coverage for light harvesting. The interconnecting layer (ICL) between subcells plays a critical role in the reproducibility and performance of tandem solar cells, yet the processability of the ICL has been a challenge. In this work the fabrication of highly reproducible and efficient tandem solar cells by employing a commercially available material, PEDOT:PSS HTL Solar (HSolar), as the hole transporting material used for the ICL is reported. Comparing with the conventional PEDOT:PSS Al 4083 (c‐PEDOT), HSolar offers a better wettability on the underlying nonfullerene photoactive layers, resulting in better charge extraction properties of the ICL. When FTAZ:IT‐M and PTB7‐Th:IEICO‐4F are used as the subcells, a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.7% is achieved in the tandem solar cell. To validate the processability of these tandem solar cells, three other research groups have successfully fabricated tandem devices using the same recipe and the highest PCE obtained is 16.1%. With further development of donor polymers and device optimization, the device simulation results show that a PCE > 22% can be realized in tandem cells in the near future.  相似文献

Solution‐processable organic semiconductor nanowires (NWs) offer a potentially powerful strategy for producing large‐area printed flexible devices. Here, the fabrication of lateral organic solar cells (LOSC) using solution‐processed organic NW blends on a flexible substrate to produce a power source for use in flexible integrated microelectronics is reported. A high photocarrier generation and an efficient charge sweep out are achieved by incorporating 1D self‐assembled poly(3‐hexylthiophene) NWs into the active layer, and an MoO3 interfacial layer with high work function is introduced to increase the built‐in potential. These structures significantly increase the carrier diffusion/drift length and overall generated photocurrent in the channel. The utility of the LOSCs for high power source applications is demonstrated by using interdigitated electrode patterns that consist of multiple devices connected in parallel or in series. High photovoltage‐producing LOSC modules on plastic substrates for use in flexible optoelectronic devices are successfully fabricated. The LOSCs described here offer a new device architecture for use in highly flexible photoresponsive energy devices.  相似文献
