Two new species, M. insularis sp. nov. and M. woonhahi sp. nov., of the genus Melanotus Eschscholtz from Korea are described. The external characteristics of both species are similar to a Japanese species, M. senilis Candeze. In addition to the difference of male genitalia, however, M. insularis can be distinguished by the strong body punctures from M. woonhahi and by short antennae and small and sparse body puncture from M. senilis.  相似文献

A new species of anisogammarid amphipod, Jesogammarus (Jesogammarus) ikiensis sp. n., is described from freshwaters in the Iki Island, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, based on results of morphological and molecular analyses. The new species is distinguished from all members of the genus by the combination of small number of setae on dorsal margins of pleonites 1–3, short and small number of setae on posterior margins of peduncular articles of antennae, mandibular article 1 without setae, well developed posterior lobes of accessory lobes of coxal gills on gnathopod 2 and pereopods 3–5, and pectinate setae on palmar margin of female gnathopod 2. A key to all the species of Jesogammarus is provided.  相似文献

Attagenus arboreus sp. n. differs from A. silvaticus Zhant. in the structure of the antennae and aedeagus. A. cuneatus sp. n. may be distinguished from A. turcomanus Zhant. by the enlarged eyes and by the structure of the male antennae and aedeagus; A. gilanicus sp. n. differs from the two preceding species in the dark elytra and in the structure of the aedeagus, and from A. turcomanus, in addition, in the structure of the antennae of the male. A. fortis sp. n. differs from A. steinbergi Zhant. in the shape of the body and structure of the male antennae and aedeagus. A. doricus sp. n. differs from A. posticalis Fairm. and A. lynx Muls. et Rey in the fine pubescence, absence of distinct pale elytral bands, and the structure of the aedeagus. A. omanicus may be distinguished from the species mentioned above mainly by the structure of the aedeagus.  相似文献

The position of antennae in the ventral part of head in the species of the genus Eremodromus Zimin is considered. It is different in the three species: the antennae are situated close to the mystacal bristles (E. noctivagus), distant from them (E. gracilis), and near the border between dorsal and ventral parts of head (E. zimini). All three species have reduced pulvilli. It is shown that both species of Theurgus Richter have a single straight apical anteroventral spur on the middle tibia.  相似文献

The first Tomocerus species with a postantennal organ (PAO) in the adult stage is described from Vietnam. Tomocerus postantennalis sp. n. differs from the other PAO-possessing tomocerid, Tomolonus reductus Mills, 1948, mainly in the morphology of PAO, the number of ocelli, the number of chaetae in trochantero-femoral organ and several features of the furca. The new species is placed in Tomocerus because of the presence of a toothlet on the outer basal mucronal tooth and the absence of the diagnostic character states of Plutomurus Yosii, 1956 and Aphaenomurus Yosii, 1956. Besides the presence of PAO, the new species is peculiar in having six prelabral chaetae, instead of four as in other Tomocerus species. The new species is similar to Tomocerus folsomi Denis, 1929 and Tomocerus ocreatus Denis, 1948 in the type of dental spines but different from them in the body colour, the relative length of antennae to body, the number of unguis inner teeth and the number of mucronal intermediate teeth.  相似文献

Two new species of Argulus Müller, 1785 (Crustacea: Branchiura) are described from Africa. A. fryeri n. sp., parasitic on an unknown fish species collected from Lake Turkana, Kenya, is characterised by: deep antero-lateral depressions which delimit a pronounced frontal region; robust, square second maxillae ornamented with numerous small, simple scales; and the shape of the respiratory areas. The most distinctive features of A. gracilis n. sp., parasitic on Auchenoglanis occidentalis var. tanganicanus collected from Lake Tanganyika, are the anterior spines on the first antennae and the shape of the respiratory areas. A. brachypeltis Fryer, previously known only from the female, is characterised by: a narrow, elongate body with foreshortened carapace lobes; small, slender terminal spines on the first antennae; and short terminal segments on the second maxillae with minute claws. The identity of the male described as A. ambloplites Wilson is discussed and renamed A. confusus nom. nov.  相似文献

A new genus Moreiba is described for Strophosoma canariense Franz, 1995 (type species) and placed in Laparocerini. It differs from Laparocerus Schoenherr, 1834 by the small size, the strongly transverse rostrum, the dense longitudinal strigosity on head and rostrum, the body covered by dense, adpressed scales and short, semierect subspatulate to parallel setae, the slender antennae with bisinuate scape and short oval club, the granulate pronotum and all tibiae lacking a mucro in both sexes. Moreiba canariensis (Franz, 1995), comb. n., is the only described species, distributed in El Hierro and Gran Canaria. The tribal placement of the genera Aphyonotus Faust, 1895, Asmaratrox Heller, 1909, Straticus Pascoe, 1886 and Cyrtozemia Pascoe, 1872 is discussed.  相似文献

Differences between ceratopogonid faunas from different Late Eocene ambers are almost as great as between ant faunas and give evidence of their different geographical origins. The greatest similarity is recorded between ceratopogonid faunas of the Rovno and Danish ambers; it manifests itself, in particular, in the presence of Leptoconops, abundant Eohelea sinuosa, and rather frequent occurrence of Meunierohelea. Eohelea sinuosa is the most abundant ceratopogonid species in the Rovno amber. The abundance of Eohelea is probably accounted for by the abundance in these assemblages of small chironomids, with terrestrial larvae; which composed 40% of the Rovno amber chironomid fauna and were probably prey to Eohelea. It is shown for the first time that Ceratopogonini with feminized male antennae (with reduced plume) occur three times as often in syninclusions of specimens of both sexes (63% of all Eohelea inclusions from the Rovno amber);this is evidence that Ceratopogonini with feminized male antennae turned to mating on substrate. This supports the hypothesis of Dinwiddie and Rachootin (2011) that wing organs of female Eohelea were not used for stridulation.  相似文献

A new species of the xylomyid genus Solva Walker, 1859, S. richterae N. Krivosheina sp. n., is described from Sumatra. Larvae were found in decaying wood. The only reared female is characterized by the following combination of characters: black body with yellow humeral spots, wide yellow band along notopleural suture, yellow scutellum, coppery-reddish dense hairs on frons including area in front of antennae, and black hind trochanter. The larval morphology of the new species is typical of the representatives of Solva.  相似文献

A new pomacentrid fish,Chromis okamurai, is described from a single specimen taken from the Okinawa Trough (25°53.4′N, 123°59.4′E), in 135–175 m. This species is most closely related to the deep-dwellingC. mirationis, sharing with it the same meristic data (in particular XIV dorsal spines and 2 upper and lower caudal spinules), large eye, and relatively deep body. It differs in having a small round posterior nostril (large and slit like inmirationis), longer second anal spine, shorter pelvic fins, and in color: two dark brown stripes on body and a pale pectoral-fin axil (mirationis has a single, midlateral, yellow to yellowish brown stripe which extends broadly onto lower part of caudal fin, and a black pectoral axil).  相似文献

The typology, number and placement of antennal sensilla of the click beetle Melanotus villosus (Geoffroy) (Coleoptera: Elateridae) were studied using scanning electron microscopy. On both the males and females the antennae are made up of the scape, pedicel and nine flagellomeres. Two types of basiconic sensilla, three types of trichoid sensilla, one type of styloconic sensilla, one type of chetoid sensilla, dome-shaped sensilla, grooved pegs, and Böhm sensilla all appear on the antennae of the beetles of both sexes, with the exception of trichoid sensilla type II, whose large number (average of 1635 hairs per antenna) was found only in male beetles. Sensilla trichodea type II evidently respond to the sex pheromone produced by the female beetle. Unlike the other two click beetles, studied up till now, Agriotes obscurus and Limonius aeruginosus, the trichoid and basiconic sensilla of M. villosus, whose proven or assumed function is olfactory, are located predominantly on the flagellomeres ventral extensions. It is assumed that the placement of the olfactory sensilla, mainly on the ventral side of M. villosuss antennae, and their more or less even distribution on the flagellomeres, can be seen as morphological adaptation of this species of insect, whose specific behavioural reaction of olfactory searching is flying, both before and after contact with an odour plume.  相似文献

Sexual dimorphism and allometry in two seed beetles (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Male Callosobruchus chinensis (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) have elaborated, pectinate antennae, which are absent from conspecific females and both sexes of a congener, Callosobruchus maculatus. To begin to unravel the mechanisms producing this striking dimorphism, we examined which morphological traits best explain body size variation in bruchid beetles and quantified sexual dimorphism of antenna size through allometric analyses. Using principal component analyses, we found that elytron length and pronotum width were significantly correlated with the first principal component, which was interpreted as explaining variation in body size. Regressions of log‐transformed body size measures on log‐transformed antenna length revealed that males of both species had longer antennae than conspecific females for any given body size, although most of this effect was attributable to higher intercepts, rather than increased allometry, in males. Comparisons among heterospecific males revealed that C. maculatus males have noticeably longer antennae than C. chinensis males at large body sizes. Callosobruchus chinensis males, thus, appear to have increased the receptive area of their antennae by adding to the width of, rather than further elongating, their antennae. Finally, we found evidence for positive allometry between log‐transformed antenna length and log‐transformed antenna width in C. chinensis males. We discuss our results in the context of evidence supporting the presence of an additional, and potentially unique, sex pheromone in C. chinensis females.  相似文献

A new species of the fungus weevil genus Glaesotropis is described from the Late Eocene Rovno amber. G. diadiasashai sp. nov. differs from G. weitschati and G. minor described from Baltic amber in having a longer rostrum and in the structure of its antennae, with the third and fourth antennomeres being longer than the first and second ones. Additionally, the new species differs from G. weitschati in being smaller, in having unswollen frons, and weakly and smoothly concave elytral margin near hind coxae. The new species also differs from G. minor in having an uninterrupted posterior transverse carina on the pronotum, elytra less convex longitudinally, and a slightly broadened rostrum at the attachment of antennae.  相似文献

In crustacean species with precopulatory mate-guarding, sexual size dimorphism has most often been regarded as the consequence of a large male advantage in contest competition for access to females. However, large body size in males may also be favoured indirectly through scramble competition. This might partly be the case if the actual target of selection is a morphological character, closely correlated with body size, involved in the detection of receptive females. We studied sexual selection on body size and antennae length in natural populations of Asellus aquaticus, an isopod species with precopulatory mate guarding. In this species, males are larger than females and male pairing success is positively related to body size. However, males also have longer antennae, relative to body size, than females, suggesting that this character may also be favoured by sexual selection. We used multivariate analysis of selection to assess the relative influences of body size and antennae length in five different populations in the field. Selection gradients indicated that, overall, body size was a better predictor of male pairing success than antennae length, although some variation was observed between sites. We then manipulated male antennae length in a series of experiments conducted in the lab, and compared the pairing ability of males with short or long antennae. Males with short antennae were less likely to detect, orient to, and to pair with a receptive female compared with males with long antennae. We discuss the implications of our results for studies of male body size and sexual dimorphism in relation to sexual selection in crustaceans.  相似文献

An adult of Micromalthus is discovered in amber for the first time. The species, from the Miocene Dominican amber, is described as M. anansi sp. nov., and is generally similar to Recent M. debilis, but differs in the longer legs and antennae. The Miocene species appears to be less fetalized than its modern counterpart.  相似文献
