Index of new names of syntaxa published in 1990

The present work collects the new names of syntaxa (in the sense of the Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature,Barkman et al. 1986) above subassociation rank found in the literature received by the Library of the Conservatoire Botanique in Geneva. For the year 1990 454 names have been listed. For each one of them, a first appreciation about its validity is given relating to the Code of Nomenclature. 8 names are given in addition to the Index 1987 (Theurillat andMoravec 1990), 9 to the Index 1988 (Theurillat andMoravec 1991) and 4 to Index 1989 (Theurillat andMoravec 1992).

For the year 1989, 588 names have been listed. For each one of them, an appreciation about its validity is given relating to the Code of Nomenclature. 15 names are given in addition to the “Index 1987” (Theurillat etMoravec 1990) and 53 to the “Index 1988” (Theurillat etMoravec 1991).

For the year 1993, 1028 names have been listed and the validity of each one is considered in relation to the Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature. Two names are given in addition to the Index 1992 (Theurillat & Moravec 1995).

Each one is accompanied by an appreciation about its validity with respect to the Code of Nomenclature. 25 names are given in addition to the Indexes 1988, 1989 and 1990 (Theurillat & Moravec 1991, 1992, 1993).

For the year 1994 851 names were listed corresponding to 34 classes, 55 orders, 2 suborders, 128 alliances, 29 suballiances, and 603 associations. For each of them, an assessment of its validity is given relating to the Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature. 72 names are given to add to the Indices 1991, 1992, 1993 (Theurillat & Moravec 1994, 1995, 1996).

The list comprises 101 names of syntaxa; three names are added to the Index 1992 (Theurillat & Moravec 1995).

The sphinctozoid sponge generaFania Senowbari-Daryan 1990 andSpica Termier &Termier 1977 are preoccupied.Fania is replaced byFanthalamia nom. nov. andSpica by the younger synonymFistulispongia Termier &Termier 1977. The invalid subfamily name FaniinaeSenowbari-Daryan 1990 is replaced by Fanthalamiinae n. subfam. The invalid family and subfamily names SpicidaeTermier &Termier 1977 and SpicinaeSenowbari-Daryan 1990 respectively are replaced by FistulispongiidaeTermier atTermier 1977 and FistulispongiinaeSenowbari-Daryan 1990. The generaWaagenium de Laubenfels 1957 andCatubria Merla 1931 were previously overlooked.Waagenium DeLaubenfels 1957 is a younger synonym ofColospongia Laube 1865. The position ofCatubria Merla 1931 is uncertain. Most probablyCatubria is an alga.

Silva, Rozeira etFontes 1952,Genisto-Vaccinion Br.-Bl. 1926,Ulicetalia minoris Quantin 1935 andCalluno-Ulicetea Br.-Bl. etR. Tx. 1943     

Contribution to the knowledge of the savanna and forb-rich communities of Pinar del Rio Province (Cuba)

Phytosociological analysis of savanna and forb-rich communities in the Pinar del Rio Province was done in the area of Remates de Guane; one locality lies on the seashore in the western part of the province. Altogether six associations were distinguished. Five of them, viz.Sclerio curtissii-Centelletum erectae, Schultezio guianensis-Rhynchosporetum fascicularis, Cassio diphyllae-Hypericetum stypheloidis, Polygalo squamifoliae-Dichromenetum seslerioidis andPhyllantho juncei-Aristidetum, all newly described in this paper, are classified into the order ofAcoelorapho-Colpothrinacetalia Bal.-Tul. inBal.-Tul. etCapote 1985 with two alliances. One association, thePaspalo debilis-Asteretum grisebachii Bal.-Tul. etCapote 1992, was put into the order ofAsteretalia grisebachii Bal.-Tul. inBal.-Tul. etCapote 1992 with one alliance bound to inland moving dunes. The plant composition reflects soil quality, above all the water regime. Very interesting is the presence of theByrsonimo crassifoliae-Andropogonetalia teneris-species in the association ofPolygalo-Dichromeneteum seslerioidis indicating the rich presence of stones in the upper part of the soil profile.
