To evaluate the mechanism of potentiation of sweating after long-term physical training, we compared sweating function in trained and untrained subjects using the frequency of sweat expulsion (f sw) as an indicator of central sudomotor activity. Nine trained male subjects (trained group) and eight untrained male subjects (untrained group) performed 30-min cycle exercise at 35% maximal oxygen uptake at 25°C ambient temperature and 35% relative humidity. Oesophageal temperature (T oes), mean body temperature b, chest sweating rate ( sw,chest), forearm sweating rate ( forearm), andf sw were measured. The slopes of the sw,chest versus body temperature (T oes and b) and versusf sw relationships in the trained group were significantly greater than those in the untrained group (both,P < 0.05), while there was no difference between the groups in the slopes of the sw,chest versus body temperature or versusf sw relationships. Neither the body temperature threshold for initiation of chest or forearm sweating nor the slope of thef sw- b relationship differed between groups. We concluded that, during light exercise at moderate ambient temperature, the sw,chest in the subjects who had undergone long-term physical training was greater than that in the untrained subjects while the sw,forearm was not changed. The greater sw,chest in the trained subjects was concluded to be due to an increase of sensitivity of peripheral mechanisms.  相似文献

Six female subjects, aged 24-34 years, performed shoulder-neck exercise for 1 h or until they were exhausted by holding out their arms horizontally at 60° to the sagittal plane. One continuous and six intermittent protocols were applied, all with a mean load corresponding to the torque of the arms, i.e. about 15% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). The intermittent protocols varied according to cycle time (10 s, 60 s, 360 s) and duty cycle (0.33, 0.50, 0.67, 0.83). Electromyogram (EMG), mean arterial blood pressure ( a), heart rate (f c) and perceived fatigue were monitored at regular intervals during exercise. Blood concentrations of potassium, lactate and ammonia were determined in pre- and postexercise samples of venous blood. Before and up to 4 h after exercise, measurements were made of MVC, pressure pain threshold, proprioceptive performance, and of EMG, a and f c during 1-min arm-holding at 25% MVC. Endurance times ranged from about 10 min to more than 1 h, significantly relating to both cycle time and duty cycle. The a, f c EMG amplitude and perceived fatigue increased early during all protocols and continued to increase throughout the exercise period. Duty cycle influenced all of these variables, while only a and fatigue perception were related to cycle time. Cardiovascular and neuromuscular recovery was incomplete for hours after several of the protocols, as indicated for example by a sensitizised response to the 1-min armholding. The protocols differed substantially as regards the relationship between different responses. Thus, ranking of the protocols in terms of physiological strain was different, depending on the criterion variable. The result stresses the relevance of applying a comprehensive selection of variables when evaluating the responses to intermittent shoulder-neck exercise.  相似文献

We have previously observed that 11-year-old children of low socio-economic status (LSES) showed a delayed physical growth of approximately 2 years and developed lower normalized short-term power output than children of high socio-economic status (HSES) of the same age. In contrast, maximal oxygen uptake per unit of fat free mass was no different in either group. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of anthropometric characteristics between HSES and LSES prepubertal children in aerobic and anaerobic performance. To compare children of the same body dimensions, 11-year-old boys (n = 30) and girls (n = 31) of LSES and 9-year-old boys (n = 21) and girls (n = 27) of HSES were studied. Anthropometric measurements, (direct test), maximal anaerobic power (P max, force-velocity test) and mean anaerobic power ( , Wingate test) were determined. In these children having the same body dimensions: mean were the same in LSES and HSES children [1.2 (SD 0.2)1-min–1];P max and were lower in LSES subjects [154.0 (SD 33.2) vs 174.6 (SD 38.4) W and 116.3 (SD 23.3) vs 128.2 (SD 28.0) W, respectively]; the linear relationships between and fat free mass were the same in LSES and HSES boys but, in the girls, the LSES group had lower values. For anaerobic performance, the relationships were significantly different: the slopes were the same but LSES values for the both sexes were lower. These results would suggest that factors other than differences in body dimensions alone were responsible for the lower performance of LSES girls and boys. Cultural factors and motor learning, structural and functional alterations of muscle induced by marginal malnutrition have been discussed.  相似文献

To investigate the hypothesis that facial cooling (FC) exerts a greater influence on the cardiovascular system at lower versus higher levels of exercise, this study examined the effect of facial cooling [mean (SE): 0 (2)°C at 0.8 m·s–1 wind velocity] during 30 min low [35% maximum oxygen consumption ( O2max)] and moderate (70% O2max) levels of cycle ergometry in the supine position. Five male subjects were assigned in random order to four exercise conditions: (1) FC at 35% O2max(FC35), (2) no cooling (NFC35), (3) FC at 70% O2max(FC70), and (4) no cooling (NFC70). Heart rate (f c), stroke volume (V s), and cardiac output ( c) were measured at rest and every 10 min of exercise using impedance cardiography. During FC35, the change in f c [mean (SE)] was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than NFC35 at 10 [22 (5) vs 31 (3) beats· min–1], 20 [29 (6) vs 35 (3) beats·min–1], and 30 [29 (5) vs 38 (4) beats·min–1] min. No differences in f c were observed between FC70 and NFC70. Furthermore, FC had no effect on V s or cat either exercise intensity. However, when comparing the FC70 and NFC70 conditions, there was a significant main effect (P<0.05) in mean arterial pressure (P a) response with cooling despite the fact that neither V s or cwere different from the NFC70 control. The increase (P < 0.05) in the estimated change in systemic vascular resistance ( a· c –1) could partly explain the relative rise in aat FC70. No pressor effect of cooling was observed at 35% O2max. The results suggest that the FC condition promotes exercise bradycardia at low levels of exercise and exerts a greater pressor response during moderate exercise.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of low, moderate and high wet bulb globe temperatures (T wbg) on cardiovascular variables and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) during moderately prolonged, high-intensity exercise. Six subjects [four men and two women; mean (SD) age, 22.0 (1.2) years; maximum oxygen consumption ({ie519-1}), 51.0 (8.4) ml · kg–1 · min–1] completed 30 min of exercise (80% {ie519-2}) on a cycle ergometer at low [14.7 (2.1)°C], moderate [21.0 (1.5)° C], and high [27.4 (2.3)° C]T wbg. Two additional subjects completed 20 min of exercise in the high temperature condition, but completed 30 min in the moderate and lowT wbg. Heart rate (f c), blood pressure, blood lactate (La), mean skin temperature ( sk), , and RPE were measured at 10, 20 and 30 min. Results showed thatf c, rate pressure product, RPE, pulmonary ventilation and ventilatory equivalent for oxygen increased (P < 0.05) across time for all conditions, while decreased across time. sk andf c were significantly greater across time in the high condition [35.9 (0.65)° C; 176 (12.6) beats · min–1] compared to the moderate [34.6 (1.5)° C; 170 (17.2) beats · min–1] and the low condition [31.7 (1.5)° C; 164 (17.1) beats-min–1]. However, there were no differences throughout exercise in RPE [high,.16.2 (2.0); moderate, 16.4 (2.2); low, 16.3 (1.9)] and across the conditions. These data suggest that RPE is closely related to metabolic intensity but is not a valid indicator of cardiovascular strain during exercise in highT wbg conditions.  相似文献

We investigated the aerobic and anaerobic contributions to performance during the Wingate test in sprint and middle-distance runners and whether they were related to the peak aerobic and anaerobic performances determined by two commonly used tests: the force-velocity test and an incremental aerobic exercise test. A group of 14 male competitive runners participated: 7 sprinters, aged 20.7 (SEM 1.3) years, competing in 50, 100 and 200-m events and 7 middle-distance runners, aged 20.0 (SEM 1.0) years, competing in 800, 1,000 and 1,500 m-events. The oxygen uptake ( ) was recorded breath-by-breath during the test (30 s) and during the first 20 s of recovery. Blood samples for venous plasma lactate concentrations were drawn at rest before the start of the test and during the 20-min recovery period. During the Wingate test mean power ( ) was determined and three values of mechanical efficiency, one individual and two arbitrary, 16% and 25%, were used to calculate the contributions of work by aerobic ( aer,ind,16%,25%) and anaerobic ( an,ind,16%,25%) processes. Peak anaerobic power ( an,peak) was estimated by the force-velocity test and maximal aerobic energy expenditure ( aer, peak) was determined during an incremental aerobic exercise test. During the Wingate test, the middle-distance runners had a significantly greater than the sprinters (P < 0.001), who had significantly greater venous plasma lactate concentrations (P < 0.001). Moreover, aer,ind,16%,25% were also significantly higher (P < 0.05) in the middle-distance runners [ aer,ind 45 (SEM 4) % vs 28 (SEM 2) %; aer,16% 30 (SEM 3) % vs 19 (SEM 2) %; aer,25% 46 (SEM 3) % vs 29 (SEM 2)%]; an,ind,16%,25% in the sprint runners (P < 0.05) [ an,ind 72 (SEM 3) % vs 55 (SEM 4) %; an,16% 81 (SEM 2) % vs 70 (SEM 3) %; an,25% 71 (SEM 2) % vs 54 (SEM 3) %]. The aer,ind/ aer, peak and × an,ind/ an,peak ratios, however, were not significantly different between the two groups of athletes. These results would indicate that the sprinters and middle-distance runners used preferentially a metabolic system according to their speciality. Nevertheless, under the conditions of its experiment, they seemed to rely on the same percentage of both peak anaerobic and peak aerobic performance for a given exercise task.  相似文献

Hyperbaric oxygen at pressures of 300 to 500 kPa has been shown to induce changed distribution of cerebral blood flow ( CBF) in rats, in places reducing the supply of the supplementary O2. Thus, in the present study, the effect of hyperoxia at 101 (group 1, n = 9) and 150 (group 2, n = 9) kPa OZ on cerebral blood flow distribution and central haemodynamics was tested in conscious, habituated rats. During the control period the systolic arterial pressure (BPs), heart rate (f c), breathing frequency (f b), cardiac output ( c), arterial acid-base chemistry and glucose, as well as CBF distribution (r CBF) were similar in the two groups of animals. During O2 exposure, the acid-base chemistry remained unchanged. The haemoglobin decreased in group 2, but remained unchanged in group 1. The f c decreased rapidly in both groups during the change in gas composition, after which f c remained constant both in group 1 and in group 2, for whom pressure was increased. The c and f b decreased and BPs increased similarly in the two groups. Total CBF and r CBF decreased to the same extent in both groups, and the r CBF changes were equally scattered. In group 1, breathing of pure O2 did not increase the O2 supply to any cerebral region except to the thalamus and colliculi after 60 min, whereas the O2 supply to the hypothalamus decreased and remained low. In group 2, the O2 supply was unchanged compared to the control period in all regions. These findings agree with previous observations during exposures to higher O2 pressures. In air after O2 exposure the acid-base chemistry remained normal. The f c and f b increased to higher levels than during the control period. The BPs remained high. The brain blood flows were increased, inducing elevated O2 supply to several brain regions compared to the control period. In conclusion, O2 supply to the central nervous system was found to be in the main unchanged during breathing of O2 at 101 kPa and 150 kPa.  相似文献

Summary The electrophoretic mobilities of serum enzymes and other proteins were investigated at 35 loci in 25 unrelated individuals of the chimpanzee Pan troglodytes. In this population the mean average of individual polymorphism is =0181, and the average level of heterozygoty =0.022. The same pattern of individual variability is found in Pan troglodytes and Homo sapiens.  相似文献

Thermoregulatory responses to exercise in relation to the phase of the menstrual cycle were studied in ten women taking oral contraceptives (P) and in ten women not taking oral contraceptives (NP). Each subject was tested for maximal aerobic capacity ( ) and for 50% exercise in the follicular (F) and luteal (L) phases of the menstrual cycle. Since the oral contraceptives would have prevented ovulation a quasi-follicular phase (q-F) and a quasi-luteal phase (q-L) of the menstrual cycle were assumed for P subjects. Exercise was performed on a cycle ergometer at an ambient temperature of 24° C and relative air humidity of 50%. Rectal (T re), mean skin ( ), mean body ( ) temperatures and heart rate (f c) were measured. Sweat rate was estimated by the continuous measurement of relative humidity of air in a ventilated capsule placed on the chest, converted to absolute pressure (PH2Ochest). Gain for sweating was calculated as a ratio of increase inPH2Ochest to the appropriate increase inT re for the whole period of sweating (G) and for unsteady-state (Gu) separately. The did not differ either between the groups of subjects or between the phases of the menstrual cycle. In P, rectal temperature threshold for sweating (T re, td) was 37.85° C in q-L and 37.60° C in q-F (P < 0.01) and corresponded to a significant difference fromT re at rest. TheT re, andf c increased similarly during exercise in q-F and q-L. No menstrual phase-related differences were observed either in the dynamics of sweating or in G. In NP,T re, td was shorter in L than in F (37.70 vs 37.47° C,P<0.02) with a significantly greater value fromT re at rest. The dynamics and G for sweating were also greater in L than in F. The Gu was 36.8 versus 16.6 kPa · ° C–1 (P<0.01) while G was 6.4 versus 3.8 kPa · ° C–1 (P<0.05), respectively. TheT re, andf c increased significantly more in phase F than in phase L. It was concluded that in these women performing moderate exercise, there was a greater temperature threshold and larger gains for sweating in phase L than in phase F. Intake of oral contraceptives reduced the differences in the gains for sweating making the thermoregulatory responses to exercise more uniform.  相似文献

Summary Rosy finches (Leucosticte arctoa) breed at altitudes above 3500 m in eastern California. House finches (Carpodacus mexicanus) belong to the same subfamily (Carduelinae), but breed at much lower elevations. Oxygen consumption ( ) and ventilatory parameters of these two species were measured over a wide range of ambient temperatures (T a) at low altitude (LA; 150 m) and at high altitude (HA; 3800 m).Minimal nighttime 's of rosy finches and house finches at LA (T a=30°C) were close to allometrically predicted values for passerine birds. At both altitudes, increased linearly with decreasingT a betweenT a=20 and –10°C. Resting 's were slightly higher at HA than at LA on average. In both species, minute volume ( ) was inversely related toT a.T a-correlated increases in resulted from significant increases in both ventilatory frequency (f) and tidal volume (V T) at both altitudes. Oxygen extraction efficiency ( ) was independent ofT a in rosy finches at LA, but declined significantly with decreasingT a in rosy finches at HA and in house finches at both altitudes. At a givenT a, both species had significantly greater (BTPS) at HA than at LA. Altitude-correlated increases in resulted primarly from increases inf with little change inV T. was significantly greater at HA than at LA in both species. In spite of the difference in altitudinal distributions of rosy finches and house finches, there were few conspicuous interspecific differences in metabolic or ventilatory adaptation to altitude or lowT a over the range of conditions examined.Symbols and abbreviations BMR basal metabolic rate - BTPS at body temperature and pressure, saturated - oxygen extraction efficiency - f ventilation frequency - h mean coefficient of heat transfer - HA high altitude - instantaneous oxygen consumption - LA low altitude - RH relative humidity - SMR standard metabolic rate - STPD standard temperature and pressure, dry - T temperature - a ambient - b body - lc lower critical of thermoneutral zone - minute volume - V T tidal volume  相似文献

Summary The influence of local temperature changes within the posterior portion of the body on dorsal aorta blood flow ( ), femoral arterial pressure (P a ), peripheral resistance (R), skin blood flow ( ) and skeletal muscle blood flow ( ) was examined in unanesthetized lizards (Iguana iguana andTubinambis nigropunctatus). In response to local heating of the hind legs and tail and increased,P a was generally unchanged,R decreased and decreased or was unchanged (Fig. 2). It is suggested that the acquisition of heat may be favored by diverting the increase in away from the muscle to the warmer skin. In response to cooling and decreased,P a was generally unchanged, R increased and increased or was unchanged. Hence, during cooling the retention of heat may be favored by diverting blood away from the skin to the deeper muscle. The muscle-skin shunt is under sympathetic control since following blockade with phenoxybenzamine HCL (Dibenzyline) muscle blood flow changes in response to temperature were qualitatively similar to those of skin (Fig. 4). These changes in peripheral circulatory patterns are independent of changes in heart rate or deep body temperature.Baker and Weathers were predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees, respectively, under USPHS Grant HE-05696. In a randomly selected sample of 88 men and 115 women, aged 23–27 years from Denmark, maximal oxygen uptake ( O2max), maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVC) in four muscle groups and physical activity were studied. The O2max was 48.0 ml · min–1 kg–1 and 39.6 ml · min–1 · kg–1 for the men and the women, respectively. The MVC was 10% lower than in a comparable group of Danes of the same age and height studied 35 years ago. Only in men was sports activity directly related to O2max (ml · min–1 · kg–1; r=0.31, P<0.01). The MVC of the knee extensors was related to O2max in the men (r=0.31, P<0.01), but there was no relationship between the other measurements of MVC and O2max. In the women O2max (ml · min–1 · kg–1) was only related to body size, i.e. body mass index, percentage body fat and body mass [(r= –0.47, –0.48 (both P<0.001) and –0.34. (P<0.01), respectively)]. There were differences in O2max in the men, according to education and occupation. Blue collar workers and subjects attending vocational or trade schools in 1983 had lower O2max and more of them were physically inactive. In the women differences were also found, but there was no clear pattern among the groups. More of the women participated regularly in sports activity, but more of the men were very active compared to the women.  相似文献

Oxygen consumption ( O2), heart rate, ventilation and central rating of perceived exertion (RPE) in repetitive lifting while executing squat and stoop techniques were investigated in ten male forestry workers. In all five mass/frequency combinations studied, O2 was significantly higher for the squat than for the stoop technique. No differences were found in RPE between the techniques. The O2 and RPE recordings were also related to those obtained during maximal repetitive lifting (same lifting technique) and maximal treadmill running. The O2 expressed as a percentage of that obtained during maximal repetitive lifting with the same lifting technique was defined as relative aerobic intensity (% O2max, lifting). The % O2max, lifting was not significantly different between the techniques except for the lowest mass lifted (1 kg). This study therefore would support the hypothesis that RPE is more closely related to % O2max, lifting than to absolute aerobic intensity. Related to maximal treadmill running, it was demonstrated for both lifting techniques that relative RPE (percentage of the RPE during maximal running) was more accurate than relative O2 (percentage of maximal O2 during maximal running) for determining the % O2max, lifting in repetitive lifting. The study showed that the higher O2 during squat. lifting compared to stoop lifting was caused by the O2 expended in lifting and lowering the body rather than the O2 expended lifting and lowering the external mass. It was concluded that the stoop technique was not superior to the squat technique in terms of central RPE. Based on % O2max, lifting, there may be a rationale for choosing the stoop technique during repetitive lifting with light masses, but not with heavy masses.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to measure running times to exhaustion (Tlim) on a treadmill at 100% of the minimum velocity which elicits max max in 38 elite male long - distance runners max = 71.4 ± 5.5 ml.kg–1.min–1 and max = 21.8 ± 1.2 km.h–1). The lactate threshold (LT) was defined as a starting point of accelerated lactate accumulation around 4 mM and was expressed in max. Tlim value was negatively correlated with max (r = -0.362, p< 0.05) and max (r = –0.347, p< 0.05) but positively with LT (%v max) (r = 0.378, p < 0.05). These data demonstrate that running time to exhaustion at max in a homogeneous group of elite male long-distance runners was inversely related to max and experimentally illustrates the model of Monod and Scherrer regarding the time limit-velocity relationship adapted from local exercise for running by Hughson et al. (1984) .  相似文献

The aim of this study was to estimate the characteristic exercise intensity CL which produces the maximal steady state of blood lactate concentration (MLSS) from submaximal intensities of 20 min carried out on the same day and separated by 40 min. Ten fit male adults [maximal oxygen uptake max 62 (SD 7) ml · min–1 · kg–1] exercisOed for two 30-min periods on a cycle ergometer at 67% (test 1.1) and 82% of max (test 1.2) separated by 40 min. They exercised 4 days later for 30 min at 82% of max without prior exercise (test 2). Blood lactate was collected for determination of lactic acid concentration every 5 min and heart rate and O2 uptake were measured every 30 s. There were no significant differences at the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, or 30th min between , lactacidaemia, and heart rate during tests 1.2 and 2. Moreover, we compared the exercise intensities CL which produced the MLSS obtained during tests 1.1 and 1.2 or during tests 1.1 and 2 calculated from differential values of lactic acid blood concentration ([1a]b) between the 30th and the 5th min or between the 20th and the 5th min. There was no significant difference between the different values of CL [68 (SD 9), 71 (SD 7), 73 (SD 6),71 (SD 11) % of max (ANOVA test,P<0.05). Four subjects ran for 60 min at their CL determined from periods performed on the same day (test 1.1 and 1.2) and the difference between the [la]b at 5 min and at 20 min ( ([la]b)) was computed. The [la]b remained constant during exercise and ranged from 2.2 to 6.7 mmol · l–1 [mean value equal to 3.9 (SD 1) mmol · l–1]. These data suggest that the CL protocol did not overestimate the exercise intensity corresponding to the maximal fractional utilization of max at MLSS. For half of the subjects the CL was very close to the higher stage (82% of max where an accumulation of lactate in the blood with time was observed. It can be hypothesized that CL was very close to the real MLSS considering the level of accuracy of [la]b measurement. This study showed that exercise at only two intensities, performed at 65% and 80% of max and separated by 40 min of complete rest, can be used to determine the intensity yielding a steady state of [la–1]b near the real MLSS workload value.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to assess the relationship between the rapidity of increased gas exchange (i.e. oxygen uptake ) and increased cardiac output ( ) during the transient phase following the onset of exercise. Five healthy male subjects performed multiple rest-exercise or light exercise (25 W)-exercise transitions on an electrically braked ergometer at exercise intensities of 50, 75, or 100 W for 6 min, respectively. Each transition was performed at least eight times for each load in random order. The was obtained by a breath-by-breath method, and was measured by an impedance method during normal breathing, using an ensemble average. On transitions from rest to exercise, rapidly increased during phase I with time constants of 6.8–7.3 s. The also showed a similar rapid increment with time constants of 6.0–6.8 s with an apparent increase in stroke volume (SV). In this phase I, increased to about 29.7%–34.1% of the steady-state value and increased to about 58.3%–87.0%. Thereafter, some 20 s after the onset of exercise a mono-exponential increase to steady-state occurred both in and with time constants of 26.7–32.3 and 23.7–34.4 s, respectively. The insignificant difference between and time constants in phase I and the abrupt increase in both and SV at the onset of exercise from rest provided further evidence for a cardiodynamic contribution to following the onset of exercise from rest.  相似文献

Summary The effects of different ambient temperatures (T a) on gas exchange and ventilation in deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus) were determined after acclimation to low and high altitude (340 and 3,800 m).At both low and high altitude, oxygen consumption ( ) decreased with increasingT a atT a from –10 to 30 °C. The was 15–20% smaller at high altitude than at low altitude atT a below 30 °C.Increased atT a below thermoneutrality was supported by increased minute volume ( ) at both low and high altitude. At mostT a, the change in was primarily a function of changing respiration frequency (f); relatively little change occurred in tidal volume (V T) or oxygen extraction efficiency (O2EE). AtT a=0 °C and below at high altitude, was constant due to decliningV T and O2EE increased in order to maintain high .At high altitude, (BTP) was 30–40% higher at a givenT a than at low altitude, except atT a below 10 °C. The increased at high altitude was due primarily to a proportional increase inf, which attained mean values of 450–500 breaths/min atT a below 0 °C. The (STP) was equivalent at high and low altitude atT a of 10 °C and above. At lowerT a, (STPD) was larger at low altitude. At both altitudes, respiratory heat loss was a small fraction (<10%) of metabolic heat production, except at highT a (20–30 °C).Abbreviations EHL evaporative heat loss - f respiration frequency - HL a heat loss from warming tidal air - HL e evaporative heat loss in tidal air - HL total respiratory heat loss - MHP metabolic heat production - O 2 EE oxygen extraction efficiency - RQ respiratory quotient - T a ambient temperature - T b body temperatureT lc lower critical temperature - carbon dioxide production - evaporative water loss - oxygen consumption - minute volume - V T tidal volume  相似文献

Summary The cellular mechanism of K-stimulated Cl transport in locust hindgut was studied using double-barrelled ionsensitive microelectrodes and electrophysiological techniques. Steady-state net electrochemical potentials for Cl and K and the conductances of apical and basal membranes and paracellular pathway were determined under control conditions, during exposure to 1mm cAMP, and following ion substitutions. Under control open-circuit conditions, intracellular Cl activity (a Cl c ) was 3.5 times that predicted for passive equilibrium across the apical membrane. The net electrochemical potential opposing Cl entry from the mucosal side increased by 50% during cAMP stimulation of transepithelial Cl absorption whereas the net electrochemical potential favoring Cl exit across the basal membrane was unchanged. No correlation was observed between and the net electrochemical potential across the apical membrane for Na. The net electrochemical potential favoring K entry across the apical membrane was negligible underI sc conditions when Cl transport rate was approximately 10 eq cm–2 hr–1. Locust rectal cells showed electrical and dye coupling. The results also indicate that most transepithelial diffusion of ions is transcellular and that epithelial tightness effectively increases during exposure to cAMP becauseR a andR b both decrease, by 80% whileR j is unchanged. The cAMP-induced R b was abolished in Cl-free saline whereas R a was insensitive to Cl removal, but was blocked by removing K from the saline. Based on these findings, our model for Cl absorption in locust hindgut features i) an active entry step for Cl at the apical membrane which is stimulated by cAMP and by low levels of K on the mucosal side, but is not energized by or a large cAMP-stimulated Cl conductance in the basal membrane and a similar cAMP-stimulated K conductance in the apical membrane. cAMP dose-response curves are similar for the stimulation of active Cl absorption and Cl-independent (i. e. K) conductance, indicating that cAMP exerts dual control over active Cl transport and counter-ion permeability.  相似文献

Summary The effects of ambient temperature (T a) on ventilation and gas exchange in chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar) were determined after acclimation to low and high altitute (LA and HA; 340 and 3,800 m, respectively). At both LA and HA, oxygen consumption ( ) increased with decreasingT a atT a from 20 to –20°C. AtT a of 35 to 40°C, increased above thermoneutral values at HA but remained constant and minimal at LA. Water loss rates increased rapidly atT a>30°C at both altitudes as birds began to pant. Ventilation rates (f) during panting were 5-to 23-fold greater than the minimalf at thermoneutralT a.Increased atT a below thermoneutrality was supported by increased minute volume (V i) at both altitudes. The change inV i was primarily a function of changing tidal volume (V t), althoughf increased slightly asT a declined. Oxygen extraction ( ) remained fairly constant atT a below 20°C at both altitudes. BothV t and were considerably lower when birds were panting than at lowerT a.Chukars showed few obvious ventilatory adaptations to HA. The 35% change in between 340 and 3,800 m was accommodated by a corresponding change inV i (btps), most of which was accomplished by increasedf at HA, along with a slight increase in .Abbreviations and symbols HA high altitude - LA low altitude - rate of evaporative water loss - oxygen extraction efficiency - f respiratory frequency - V t tidal volume - V i minute volume - BMR basal metabolic rate - MHP metabolic heat production  相似文献
