Sexual development is inhibited in Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) in short days (SD), and a small uterus is an obvious indicator of photo-inhibition. The small uterus in SD is presumably due to the delayed onset of estrous cycles. However, in an earlier study, the investigators reported that serum estradiol (E2) concentration was significantly higher in young females raised in SD than in long days (LD), with the highest concentrations measured in SD at 4 weeks of age. These seemingly contradictory findings were investigated in the present study. First, uterine mass and body mass were measured in SD- and LD-reared hamsters from 1 to 12 weeks of age. Uterine mass was significantly greater in LD than in SD by 3 weeks of age and onward. Thereafter, our investigation focused on 4-week-old hamsters. Serum E2 concentrations in LD and in SD were not significantly different and there were no significant LD–SD differences in uterine estrogen receptors (ER), as measured by immunohistochemistry and quantitative real-time RT-PCR. Therefore, alternative explanations for the photoperiodic difference in uterine size in young Siberian hamsters are considered.  相似文献

Short day lengths delay reproductive aging   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Caloric restriction and hormone treatment delay reproductive senescence in female mammals, but a natural model of decelerated reproductive aging does not presently exist. In addition to describing such a model, this study shows that an abiotic signal (photoperiod) can induce physiological changes that slow senescence. Relative to animals born in April, rodents born in September delay their first reproductive effort by up to 7 mo, at which age reduced fertility is expected. We tested the hypothesis that the shorter day lengths experienced by late-born Siberian hamsters ameliorate the reproductive decline associated with advancing age. Short-day females (10L:14D) achieved puberty at a much later age than long-day animals (14L:10D) and had twice as many ovarian primordial follicles. At 10 mo of age, 86% of females previously maintained in short day lengths produced litters, compared with 58% of their long day counterparts. Changes in pineal gland production of melatonin appear to mediate the effects of day length on reproductive aging; only 30% of pinealectomized females housed in short days produced litters. Exposure to short days induces substantial decreases in voluntary food intake and body mass, reduced ovarian estradiol secretion, and enhanced production of melatonin. One or more of these changes may account for the protective effect of short day lengths on female reproduction. In delaying reproductive senescence, the decrease in day length after the summer solstice is of presumed adaptive significance for offspring born late in the breeding season that first breed at an advanced chronological age.  相似文献

Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) exhibit reproductive and immunological responses to photoperiod. Short (<10-h light/day) days induce gonadal atrophy, increase leukocyte concentrations, and attenuate thermoregulatory and behavioral responses to infection. Whereas hamster reproductive responses to photoperiod are dependent on pineal melatonin secretion, the role of the pineal in short-day induced changes in immune function is not fully understood. To examine this, adult hamsters were pinealectomized (PINx) or sham-PINx, and transferred to short days (9-h light/day; SD) or kept in their natal long-day (15-h light/day; LD) photoperiod. Intact and PINx hamsters housed in LD maintained large testes over the next 12 weeks; sham-PINx hamsters exhibited gonadal regression in SD, and PINx abolished this effect. Among pineal-intact hamsters, blood samples revealed increases in leukocyte, lymphocyte, CD62L+ lymphocyte, and T cell counts in SD relative to LD; PINx did not affect leukocyte numbers in LD hamsters, but abolished the SD increase in these measures. Hamsters were then treated with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which induced thermoregulatory (fever), behavioral (anorexia, reductions in nest building), and somatic (weight loss) sickness responses in all groups. Among pineal-intact hamsters, febrile and behavioral responses to LPS were attenuated in SD relative to LD. PINx did not affect sickness responses to LPS in LD hamsters, but abolished the ameliorating effects of SD on behavioral responses to LPS. Surprisingly, PINx failed to abolish the effect of SD on fever. In common with the reproductive system, PINx induces the LD phenotype in most aspects of the immune system. The pineal gland is required for photoperiodic regulation of circulating leukocytes and neural-immune interactions that mediate select aspects of sickness behaviors.  相似文献

Summer and fall decreases in day length induce reproductive regression in adult hamsters and delay reproductive maturation of their young. The following year pubertal development is triggered by an interval timer (IT) that renders animals refractory to inhibitory short day lengths after approximately 25 wk. Timing of gonadal and somatic development was examined among offspring born to Siberian hamsters in early-August vs. late-September day lengths. Pubertal maturation was delayed in both groups until late winter. Gonadal growth occurred at significantly later ages among August- vs. September-born males as did late-winter spurts in ponderal growth of both sexes. Timing of reproductive and somatic development depended on postnatal rather than prenatal photoperiod exposure and was unrelated to the circadian entrainment status of dams. When developmental patterns were assessed in relation to time of year, group differences were largely eliminated. Because the IT triggers these developmental events, its duration must be plastic. This plasticity facilitates a relative synchronization or entrainment of developmental milestones in hamsters born into different late-summer/early-fall photoperiods.  相似文献

Differential allocation of energy to reproduction versus host defense is assumed to drive the seasonal antiphase relation between peak reproductive function and immunocompetence; however, evidence supporting this assumption is only correlational. These experiments tested whether photoperiod affects immune responses to antigens in peripubertal Siberian hamsters, whether such activation of the immune system exacts energetic and reproductive costs, and whether such costs vary seasonally. Male Siberian hamsters were raised from birth in long (LD) or short days (SD), which respectively initiate or inhibit the onset of puberty. To elicit a specific immune response, hamsters were injected with a novel antigen (keyhole limpet hemocyanin [KLH]) as juveniles. Reproductive development was attenuated and body temperature was elevated in LD hamsters relative to saline-injected control animals. In contrast, KLH treatments affected neither thermoregulation nor reproductive development in photoinhibited SD hamsters. In experiment 2, juvenile male hamsters were challenged with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in order to elicit an innate immune response. Febrile and anorexic responses to LPS were greater in reproductively stimulated LD hamsters relative to reproductively inhibited SD hamsters. LPS treatments attenuated somatic and testicular development in LD hamsters, but did not significantly affect circulating testosterone concentrations. In contrast, LPS treatments were without effect on somatic and reproductive development in SD hamsters. These experiments indicate that photoperiod affects antigen-specific antibody production, febrile responses to LPS, and sickness behaviors in juvenile Siberian hamsters, and that peripubertal activation of the immune system exacts energetic and metabolic costs that can diminish the magnitude of somatic and reproductive maturation in LD. The data also underscore the importance of seasonally dependent life history factors in assessing physiological tradeoffs.  相似文献

Follicular populations were investigated in female F344/N rats to better understand the aging process of the rat ovary. Ovaries dissected at various ages (spanning 1–36 months old) were submitted for histological examination. The total number of primordial, growing (primary and secondary), tertiary, and atretic follicles as well as corpora lutea (CL) were counted in hematoxylin–eosin- and azocarmine–aniline-blue-stained ovarian sections. The number of healthy follicles including primordial, growing and tertiary follicles decreased rapidly between the first and third months and gradually thereafter. CL were found in 3-month-old rats, and their number remained unchanged until 18 months of age, at which point it decreased. The number of atretic follicles started to increase in rats older than 18 months, which corresponded to the cessation of estrous cyclicity. Several healthy follicles and CL were observed even in 36-month-old rats.  相似文献

Animals living in temperate climates with predictable seasonal changes in food availability may use seasonal information to engage different metabolic strategies. Siberian hamsters decrease costs of thermoregulation during winter by reducing food intake and body mass in response to decreasing or short-day lengths (SD). These experiments examined whether SD reduction in food intake in hamsters is driven, at least in part, by altered behavioral responses to ghrelin, a gut-derived orexigenic peptide which induces food intake via NPY-dependent mechanisms. Relative to hamsters housed in long-day (LD) photoperiods, SD hamsters consumed less food in response to i.p. treatment with ghrelin across a range of doses from 0.03 to 3 mg/kg. To determine whether changes in photoperiod alter behavioral responses to ghrelin-induced activation of NPY neurons, c-Fos and NPY expression were quantified in the arcuate nucleus (ARC) via double-label fluorescent immunocytochemistry following i.p. treatment with 0.3 mg/kg ghrelin or saline. Ghrelin induced c-Fos immunoreactivity (-ir) in a greater proportion of NPY-ir neurons of LD relative to SD hamsters. In addition, following ghrelin treatment, a greater proportion of ARC c-Fos-ir neurons were identifiable as NPY-ir in LD relative to SD hamsters. Changes in day length markedly alter the behavioral response to ghrelin. The data also identify photoperiod-induced changes in the ability of ghrelin to activate ARC NPY neurons as a possible mechanism by which changes in day length alter food intake.  相似文献

The mammalian ovarian reserve is comprised of a finite pool of primordial follicles, representing the lifetime reproductive capacity of females. In most mammals, the reserve is produced during embryonic and early postnatal development with oocyte numbers peaking during mid‐to‐late gestation, and then experiencing a dramatic decline continuing until shortly after birth. Oocytes remaining after the bulk of this attrition are subsequently surrounded by a layer of somatic pre‐granulosa cells with these units then referred to as “primordial follicles.” The complex and varied cell death mechanisms intrinsic to this process are not only characteristic of, but also essential for, the proper formation of this pool of follicles, and as a result must be immaculately balanced to ensure long‐term fertility and reproductive health. Too few follicles can lead to Primary Ovarian Insufficiency, resulting in fertility loss and other features of aging, such as an overall shorter lifespan. On the other hand, whereas an excess of follicles might extend reproductive lifespan, this might also be the underlying etiology of other ovarian pathologies. The last decade, in particular, has vastly expanded our understanding of oocyte attrition and determinants of ovarian reserve abundance. By continuing to decipher the intricacies underlying the cell death processes and development of the initial primordial follicle pool, we may be in a much better position to understand idiopathic cases of premature follicle depletion and improve ovarian health in reproductive‐age women.  相似文献

The Neotropical bat species Artibeus planirostris and Eptesicus furinalis present a different morphology of the female reproductive organs: the first presents a simplex uterus, while the second presents a bicornuate uterus, but there is no information about their ovaries. Our aim was to compare the general ovary morphology and the folliculogenesis process in these species to increase the knowledge about the reproductive diversity of tropical bats. We observed a morphological distinction between the ovaries of both species: A. planirostris presents the primordial follicles located in a cranial portion of the ovary and the interstitial gland cells are not distinctive, while in E. furinalis, the primordial follicles are located throughout the cortex, and there is an abundance of interstitial gland cells. Both species present binovular or triovular follicles. Artibeus planirostris is a monovular species, with a preferential ovulation in the left side. Some females of E. furinalis exhibited two corpora lutea in the same ovary, and others presented a corpus luteum in both right and left ovaries at the same time; thus, E. furinalis is a polyovular species. Our results express the variation between two Neotropical species, reflecting the great variation in the reproductive aspects in Chiroptera.  相似文献

Temperate and boreal mammals undergo seasonal changes in pelage that facilitate thermoregulation in winter and summer. We investigated photoperiodic influences on pelage characteristics of male Siberian and Syrian hamsters. Fur density (mg fur/cm2 skin) was measured by weighing the shavings of fur patches removed from the dorsal and ventral surfaces of hamsters maintained in long days (LDs) or transferred to short days (SDs). Patches were reshaved 3 wk later to assess fur regrowth (mg regrown fur/cm2 skin). Fur density was greater in SD than in LD Siberian hamsters after 11 wk of differential phototreatment. The onset of increased fur density in SDs was accompanied by a transient increase in fur regrowth (11-14 wk on the dorsal surface and 7-10 and 11-14 wk on the ventral surface), suggestive of a seasonal molting process. Fur density, body mass, and pelage color of Siberian hamsters returned to values characteristic of LD males after a similar duration of prolonged (>27 wk) SD treatment and appear to be regulated by a similar or common interval-timing mechanism. In Syrian hamsters, dorsal fur density, fur regrowth, and hair lengths were greater in SD than in LD males. Castration increased and testosterone (T) treatment decreased dorsal and ventral fur regrowth in LD and SD hamsters, but the effects of T manipulations on fur density were limited to a decrease in dorsal fur density after T treatment. Decreased circulating T in SDs likely contributes to the seasonal molt of male hamsters by increasing the rate of fur growth during the transition to the winter pelage.  相似文献

The reproductive capacity and induction of dominant lethal mutations in adult female guinea-pigs and Djungarian hamsters were tested following treatment with 400 rad X-rays, 1.6 mg/kg triethylenemelamine (TEM) or 75 mg/kg isopropylmethanesulphonate (IPMS). A fairly high level of dominant lethals were observed in female guinea-pigs mated at the first oestrus after irradiation (23.4 +/- 6.4%) with a lower yield at 3 months (9.6 +/- 8.2%). Neither of the chemicals caused any significant induction of dominant lethals at either mating time. In the reproductive capacity experiments, the mean litter size of irradiated female guinea-pigs was reduced for about 12 months and this was especially marked in the first 6 months following treatment. Neither of the chemicals caused any significant differences in early litter sizes but there was a noticeable reduction in the litter sizes of TEM-treated females in the 18--24 month interval. With Djungarian hamsters a marked effect of X-rays on reproductive capacity was apparent. After 400 rad a smaller proportion of irradiated females littered in the first 25-day interval than after the other treatments, and no irradiated females produced more than one litter. Neither of the chemicals caused such a drastic reduction in fertility but TEM-treated females produced fewer litters and became sterile at an earlier age than control or IPMS-treated females. With IPMS, the number of litters produced was similar to the controls. Both chemicals caused a significant reduction in litter-size but further work is needed to establish whether this was due to induction of dominant lethals. No translocations were observed in the sons of treated female guinea-pigs or hamsters, but the numbers of animals studied were too small for any conclusions to be drawn.  相似文献

We investigated whether puberty influences the morphology of the medial nucleus of the amygdala (MeA) by comparing Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) that had been raised from birth in either long day (LD; 16:8 h light:dark) or short day (SD; 8:16) photoperiods. Hamsters were sacrificed at 42-49 days of age, at which point all LD hamsters were reproductively mature, as evidenced by adult-like testes weights (mean: 657 mg). In contrast, the testes weights of the SD hamsters were low (mean: 31 mg), indicating that the SD photoperiod had delayed puberty. The regional volume and mean soma size of the four MeA subnuclei was estimated bilaterally by stereological procedures. In the posterior dorsal and ventral MeA subnuclei, regional volume was 22-25% larger, and mean soma size 18% larger, in LD males than SD males. Unbiased cell counts in the posterior dorsal MeA showed that LD and SD hamsters have equivalent neuron numbers. In the anterior MeA subnuclei, regional volumes and soma sizes from LD and SD hamsters were equivalent. Additionally, the regional volume of the posteroventral subnucleus was larger in the right hemisphere than the left, but this laterality did not respond to photoperiod manipulation. These results suggest that the extant neurons within the posterior MeA, a steroid-sensitive nucleus implicated in socio-sexual behavior, grow in response to the elevated levels of circulating androgen accompanying puberty, and that photoperiodic regulation of puberty affects morphological maturation of this nucleus.  相似文献

The synergetic process of folliculogenesis is mainly regulated by GDF-9 and BMP-15 as well as their receptors, such as BMPR2, TβR1 and BMPR1B. Expressions of these factors and the receptors are significant different among species. This study was designed to detect expression of GDF-9, BMP-15 and their receptors in mouse, porcine and human healthy follicles by immunohistochemistry. Three ages of human ovary were studied according to ovarian developmental schedule, i.e. gestational week (GW) 16, puberty (14 year-old) and adult (40 year-old). The results showed that both GDF-9 and BMP-15 were detectable in oocytes from primary follicles onward, besides, BMP-15 also presented in granulosa cells (GCs) and follicular follicle of mature follicles in mouse. However, they were maintained in oocytes and GCs from primordial to mature follicles in porcine except that GDF-9 was undetectable in GCs of mature follicles. For human ovary, GDF-9 presented in oocytes of primordial follicles in all samples, whereas BMP-15 was only observed in primordial follicle of adult ovary. Receptors, BMPR2, TβR1 and BMPR1B were found in oocytes and GCs of all follicles in mouse and porcine. In human, they were stained in oocytes from primordial follices but BMPR1B was not expressed in pubertal primordial follicles. Furthermore, we found that GDF-9, BMP-15 and three receptors distributed in adult corpus lutea. Collectively, our studies suggested that GDF-9, BMP-15 and their receptors might correlate with primordial follicular recruitment in pig and human. Positive expression of the receptors (BMPR2, TβR1 and BMPR1B)in primordial follicles of mouse ovaries indicated that these receptors might interact with others ligands besides GDF-9 and BMP-15 to regulate primordial follicular activity in mouse. Moreover, presence of GDF-9 in oocytes and BMP-15 in oocytes and GCs of mature follicles from mice and porcine elucidated coordinated roles of GDF-9 and BMP-15 in cumulus oophorus expansion. Additionally, expression of these factors in adult human corpus lutea suggested they play roles in corpus luteum activity.  相似文献

Investigations of primordial follicle formation and growth are fundamental to our understanding of female gamete production. In all mammalian females the full complement of oocytes is established during fetal development. This store of primordial follicles is not renewable and serves the entire reproductive life span of the adult. The correct programming of fetal ovarian development and the number of primordial follicles formed will therefore limit the fecundity of the ovary. Primordial follicles are characterized by the presence of a single oocyte surrounded by a varying number of pregranulosa cells. The relatively small size, undifferentiated status and large numbers of primordial follicles make them prime candidates for use in basic and applied research in animal production, gene transfer and cloning. Furthermore, the development of cell culture systems that use primordial follicles as a source of oocytes for in vitro growth and maturation will enable us to maximize the potential of high genetic merit females and to shorten generation intervals. Despite these possibilities, primordial follicles are the least understood of all stages of follicle development. The factor(s) responsible for maintaining the primordial pool or, conversely, for activating primordial follicle growth remain elusive.  相似文献

Male Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) housed in long days (LD), but not short days (SD) release luteinizing hormone (LH) when exposed to females. This study examined whether this response is specific to a female and identifies the source of a stimulus that induces LH release. Serum concentrations of LH, testosterone (T), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and cortisol were examined in all experiments. T concentrations mirrored the LH response; FSH and cortisol were unchanged in response to all stimuli. Exposure to an LD female, irrespective of her reproductive status, but not an SD female, elicited LH release. Exposure to another male did not trigger LH release. Males released LH when allowed physical contact with an anesthetized female, but not when separated from a normally active female, suggesting that tactile or nonvolatile chemosensory stimuli elicit LH release. Urine and secretions collected from the vagina as well as oral, midventral, perineal, and rectal glands, elicited marked behavioral responses in male P. sungorus. Despite these behavioral responses, only feces from females elicited LH release in males. Males released LH in response to feces extracted from the rectum and to cotton swabs that had been rubbed against the rectal mucosa, suggesting that a component of rectal secretions may trigger LH release in male Siberian hamsters. Taken together, these data and previous data from our laboratory indicate that both the production of and the response to a pheromone that triggers the selective release of LH is regulated by day length.  相似文献

Age-related changes in ovarian morphology were studied in female Japanese monkeys,Macaca fuscata fuscata. A total of 47 nonlactating females of various ages ranging from new-born to >28 yr old were used. Ovarian size increased during the first decade of life, reached a plateau at around 10 yr. This was followed by a gradual decline throughout the remaining life span. The ovarian cortex of new-born animals consisted of numerous clusters of mitotic primordial germ cells. Such mitotic germ cells were observed even in the ovary of 28-day-old animal, but were not found in any animal after 1.5 yr of age. Numbers of primordial follicles decreased exponentially with the advance of age, and only a few primordial follicles were observed after about 16 yr of age. The numbers of primary and tertiary follicles increased from ages 4 to 16 yr, with a peak at 8 to 10 yr, and then decreased gradually. Developing tertiary follicles were observed as early as 1.5 yr of age. About 40% of tertiary follicles were atretic follicles throughout life, and their size was similar to that of developing tertiary follicles. Corpora lutea or corpora albicantia were found in ovaries more than 4 yr old. Remnants of corpora lutea and corpora albicantia, together with thick-walled blood vessels and fibrosis, became apparent in ovaries after 16 yr, and were observed characteristically in ovaries over 26 yr of age. There was no significant difference in the number or in the size of tertiary follicles between the breeding and nonbreeding seasons.  相似文献

Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) exhibit changes in reproductive and immune function in response to seasonal variations in day length. Exposure to short days induces gonadal regression and inhibits testosterone secretion. In parallel, short days enhance immune function: increasing leukocyte numbers and attenuating cytokine and behavioral responses to infection. We examined whether photoperiodic changes in leukocyte phenotypes and sickness behaviors are dependent on concurrent photoperiodic changes in gonadal function. Male hamsters were gonadectomized or sham-gonadectomized and either exposed to short days (9 h light/day; SD) or kept in their natal long-day (15 h light/day; LD) photoperiod for 10-13 wk. Blood samples were obtained for leukocyte enumeration, and hamsters were challenged with bacterial LPS, which induced behavioral (anorexia, reductions in nest building) and somatic (weight loss) sickness responses. Among gonad-intact hamsters, exposure to SD increased total and CD62L+ lymphocytes and CD3+ T lymphocytes in blood and significantly attenuated LPS-induced sickness responses. Independent of photoperiod, castration alone increased total and CD62L+ lymphocyte and CD3+ T lymphocyte numbers and attenuated somatic and anorexic sickness responses. Among castrated hamsters, SD exposure increased lymphocyte numbers and suppressed sickness behaviors. In castrated hamsters, the magnitude of most immunological effects of SD were diminished relative to those evident in gonad-intact hamsters. The SD phenotype in several measures of immunity can be instated via elimination of gonadal hormones alone; however, photoperiodic effects on immune function persist even in castrated hamsters. Thus, photoperiod affects the immune system and neural-immune interactions underlying sickness behaviors via gonadal hormone-dependent and -independent mechanisms.  相似文献

Siberian hamsters adapt to seasonal changes by reducing their reproductive function during short days (SD). SD exposure reduces uterine mass and reproductive capacity, but underlying cellular mechanisms remain unknown. Because matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) are important in uterine development, parturition, and postpartum remodeling, their expression in uterine tissue from Siberian hamsters undergoing photoperiod-mediated reproductive regression and recrudescence was investigated. Female hamsters were exposed to long day (LD, 16L:8D, controls) or SD (8L:16D) for 3-12 weeks (regression); a second group was exposed to SD or LD for 14 weeks and then transferred to LD for 0-8 weeks (recrudescence). Hamsters were euthanized, uteri collected, and homogenates analyzed by gelatin zymography or Western blotting for MMP and TIMP protein levels. Uterine weight decreased (67-75%) at SD weeks 12-14 and increased post-LD transfer (PT) reaching LD values by PT week 2. MMP-2, but not MMP-9 activity was reduced by SD week 12 or 14 but increased to LD levels at PT week 2. MMP-3 expression increased at SD week 9 compared to other SD and LD groups. MMP-14 and -13 protein levels decreased at SD week 3 but returned to LD levels by SD week 6. During recrudescence, MMP-3 (PT weeks 0-2), MMP-13 (PT week 4), and MMP-14 (PT weeks 2, 4) protein levels were higher than LD. TIMP-1 and 2 were present at low levels. Significant and differential variations in uterine MMP activity/expression during photoperiod-induced regression and recrudescence were observed. These changes likely reflect increases in tissue remodeling during both the adaptation to SD and the restoration of reproductive function.  相似文献

In our previous study, we demonstrated that the repair efficiency of DNA double-strand breaks declines with increasing age in rat primordial follicles. In the present study, we extended our studies to buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) wherein we studied the expression of BRCA-1 related DNA repair genes in primordial follicles of young (12 months-22 months) and adult (72–96 months) buffaloes. The relative expression of selected genes, as determined by RT-PCR, revealed a significant (p?相似文献

Chronic diseases including coronary heart disease and osteoporosis represent a substantial health burden to postmenopausal women, yet the initiation of these conditions and their relationships with reproductive aging remain poorly understood. This situation is due, in part, to the lack of animal models reflecting ovarian and hormonal characteristics of peri- and postmenopausal women. Ovaries of women approaching menopause are nearly depleted of primordial follicles but retain a pool of larger developing follicles and androgen-producing stroma, a condition known as reduced ovarian reserve (ROR). The long-term goal of the research presented here was to create a monkey model of reproductive aging, beginning with ROR and progressing to perimenopause and finally postmenopause. Here we sought to develop a method to reduce primordial follicles in cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) and document hormonal changes associated with follicle reduction or ROR. At 30 d after surgical placement of a biodegradable fiber containing approximately 200 mg of 4-vinlycyclohexene diepoxide (VCD) next to one ovary in each of 8 monkeys, primordial follicles were reduced by approximately 70%, with a corresponding decrease (83%) in antimüllerian hormone (AMH, a serum marker of ovarian follicle numbers). At 4 mo after VCD-treatment of both ovaries in 29 monkeys (approximately 200 mg VCD per ovary), AMH was reduced 56% from baseline, testosterone was unchanged, and follicular phase estradiol was slightly increased. These data indicate that VCD treatment markedly reduced primordial follicles while preserving larger estradiol- and testosterone-producing follicles and ovarian stroma, a condition that mimics ROR in women.  相似文献
