The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial effect of nisin-loaded chitosan/alginate nanoparticles as a novel antibacterial delivery vehicle. The nisin-loaded nanoparticles were prepared using colloidal dispersion of the chitosan/alginate polymers in the presence of nisin. After the preparation of the nisin-loaded nanoparticles, their physicochemical properties such as size, shape, and zeta potential of the formulations were studied using scanning electron microscope and nanosizer instruments, consecutively. FTIR and differential scanning calorimetery studies were performed to investigate polymer–polymer or polymer–protein interactions. Next, the release kinetics and entrapment efficiency of the nisin-loaded nanoparticles were examined to assess the application potential of these formulations as a candidate vector. For measuring the antibacterial activity of the nisin-loaded nanoparticles, agar diffusion and MIC methods were employed. The samples under investigation for total microbial counts were pasteurized and raw milks each of which contained the nisin-loaded nanoparticles and inoculated Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 19117 at 106 CFU/mL), pasteurized and raw milks each included free nisin and S. aureus (106 CFU/mL), and pasteurized and raw milks each had S. aureus (106 CFU/mL) in as control. Total counts of S. aureus were measured after 24 and 48 h for the pasteurized milk samples and after the time intervals of 0, 6, 10, 14, 18, and 24 h for the raw milk samples, respectively. According to the results, entrapment efficiency of nisin inside of the nanoparticles was about 90–95%. The average size of the nanoparticles was 205 nm, and the average zeta potential of them was ?47 mV. In agar diffusion assay, an antibacterial activity (inhibition zone diameter, at 450 IU/mL) about 2 times higher than that of free nisin was observed for the nisin-loaded nanoparticles. MIC of the nisin-loaded nanoparticles (0.5 mg/mL) was about four times less than that of free nisin (2 mg/mL). Evaluation of the kinetic of the growth of S. aureus based on the total counts in the raw and pasteurized milks revealed that the nisin-loaded nanoparticles were able to inhibit more effectively the growth of S. aureus than free nisin during longer incubation periods. In other words, the decrease in the population of S. aureus for free nisin and the nisin-loaded nanoparticles in pasteurized milk was the same after 24 h of incubation while lessening in the growth of S. aureus was more marked for the nisin-loaded nanoparticles than the samples containing only free nisin after 48 h of incubation. Although the same growth reduction profile in S. aureus was noticed for free nisin and the nisin-loaded nanoparticles in the raw milk up to 14 h of incubation, after this time the nisin-loaded nanoparticles showed higher growth inhibition than free nisin. Since, generally, naked nisin has greater interactions with the ingredients present in milk samples in comparison with the protected nisin. Therefore, it is concluded that the antibacterial activity of nisin naturally decreases more during longer times of incubation than the protected nisin with the chitosan/alginate nanoparticles. Consequently, this protection increases and keeps antibacterial efficiency of nisin in comparison with free nisin during longer times of storage. These results can pave the way for further research and use of these nanoparticles as new antimicrobial agents in various realms of dairy products.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of poly-ethylene-co-vinyl acetate (EVA) films incorporating different concentrations (0.1%, 0.5% and 1%) of nisin on the biofilm-forming ability of Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 7644, Staphylococcus aureus 815 and Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 35984. Nisin was incorporated into two grades of EVA (EVA14 and EVA28) in the melt during a common film-blowing operation. The efficacy of EVA/nisin films was evaluated by biofilm biomass measurements and Live/Dead staining in combination with fluorescence microscopy. In order to evaluate whether the nisin incorporation could modify the film surface properties, contact angle measurements and scanning electron microscopy were performed. The results revealed the efficacy of EVA14/nisin films in reducing biofilm formation on their surfaces with more evident effect for S. epidermidis than L. monocytogenes and S. aureus strains. In contrast, EVA28/nisin films showed unsatisfactory activity. Fluorescence microscopy confirmed poor biofilm formation on EVA14/nisin films, also characterised by the presence of dead cells. The data presented in this study offer new potential applications for developing strategies aimed to improve the effect of antimicrobial agents.  相似文献

The development of new polymeric materials aimed to control the bacterial biofilm appears to be an important practical approach. The goal of the present study was to prepare and characterize poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) copolymer (EVA) films containing citronellol, eugenol, and linalool and evaluate their efficiency on growth and biofilm formation of Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in monospecies and dual species. The results showed that the addition of oil components influenced the elastic modulus (15 % decrease), the tensile stress (30 % decrease), the elongation at break (10 % increase), and the contact angle values (10–20° decrease) while leaving the homogeneity of the surface unaltered. Among the polymeric films, EVA + citronellol and EVA + eugenol at 7 wt% had the best inhibitory effect. After 24–48 h of incubation, EVA + citronellol was more effective against the growth (30–60 % reduction) than EVA + eugenol (15–30 % inhibition). However, this inhibition decreased after 240 h of incubation. On the contrary, the biofilm evaluation revealed a strong inhibition trend also after prolonged incubation time: the amount of biomass per square centimeter formed on copolymer with oil components was significantly less (40–70 % decrease) than that on pure copolymer control for L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, and E. coli. When polymeric materials were simultaneously inoculated with combinations of S. aureus and E. coli, the biomass accumulated was higher for EVA + citronellol and lower for EVA + eugenol than that in monoculture biofilm. The findings were similar to the results obtained by 2,3-bis[2-methyloxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl]-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide assay that measures the metabolic activity of viable cells.  相似文献

Nisin A and polymyxin B were tested alone and in combination in order to test their antagonism against Listeria innocua HPB13 and Escherichia coli RR1, respectively. While the combination of both antibacterial substances was synergistically active against both target bacteria, nisin A alone did not show any inhibition of E. coli RR1. The nisin A/polymyxin B combination at 1.56/2.5 μg ml?1 caused lysis of about 35.86 ± 0.35 and 73.36 ± 0.14% of L. innocua HPB13 cells after 3 and 18 h, respectively. Polymyxin B at 0.12 μg ml?1 and nisin A/polymyxin B at 4.64/0.12 μg ml?1 decreased the numbers of viable E. coli RR1 cells by about 0.23 and 0.65 log10 CFU ml?1, respectively, compared to the control. Our data suggest that the concentration of nisin A required for the effective control of pathogenic strains Listeria spp. could be lowered considerably by combination with polymyxin B. The use of lower concentrations of nisin A or polymyxin B should slow the emergence of bacterial populations resistant to these agents.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to prepare new nanocomposites with antibacterial activities by surface modification of montmorillonite using quaternary ammonium compounds that are widely applied as disinfectants and antiseptics in food-processing environments. The intercalation of four quaternary ammonium compounds namely benzalkonium chloride, cetylpyridinium chloride monohydrate, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, tetraethylammonium chloride hydrate into montmorillonite layers was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The antibacterial influences of the modified clay variants against important foodborne pathogens differed based on modifiers quantities, microbial cell densities, and length of contact. Elution experiments through 0.1 g of the studied montmorillonite variants indicated that Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, and Listeria monocytogenes were the most sensitive strains. 1 g of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide intercalated montmorillonites demonstrated maximum inactivation of L. monocytogenes populations, with 4.5 log c.f.u./ml units of reduction. In adsorption experiments, 0.1 g of tetraethylammonium chloride hydrate montmorillonite variants significantly reduced the growth of Escherichia coli O157:H7, L. monocytogenes, and S. aureus populations by 5.77, 6.33, and 7.38 log units respectively. Growth of wide variety of microorganisms was strongly inhibited to undetectable levels (<log 2.0 c.f.u./g) when adsorbed to 1 g of benzalkonium chloride montmorillonite variants. This investigation highlights that reduction in counts of microbial populations adsorbed to the new nanocomposites was substantially different from that in elution experiments, where interactions of nanocomposites with bacteria were specific and more complex than simple ability to inactivate. Treatment columns packed with modified variants maintained their inactivation capacity to the growth of Salmonella Tennessee and S. aureus populations after 48 h of incubation at room temperature with maximum reductions of 6.3 and 5.0 log units respectively. New nanocomposites presented in this research may have potential applications in industrial scale for the control of foodborne pathogens by their incorporation into high-performance filters in food processing plant environments where selectivity in removal and/or inactivation of species in fluid flow streams is desirable. Nevertheless, extensive in vitro and in vivo studies of these new nanocomposites is essential to outpace the understanding of their potential impacts and consequences on human health and the environment if they will make an appearance in commercialized food packaging and containment food materials in the future.  相似文献

Mice were intraperitoneally infected with 2 × 108 cfu Staphylococcus aureus Xen 36 and treated with 2,130 AU (arbitrary units) nisin (equivalent to 27.7 μg pure nisin), a class Ia lantibiotic, over 7 days. The metabolic activity of S. aureus Xen 36, concluded from changes in cell bioluminescence, declined for the first 3.5 h, but increased over the next 24 h and remained at this level for the remainder of the 7-day trial. Similar results were obtained with heat-inactivated (25 min at 121 °C) nisin, suggesting that the decline in metabolic activity of S. aureus Xen 36 cannot be attributed to the bacteriostatic activity of nisin. The decline in lymphocyte numbers in infected mice was of smaller magnitude after treatment with active nisin compared to inactive nisin, suggesting that active nisin limited the apoptosis of lymphocytes. The drastic increase in neutrophil versus lymphocyte (N:L) ratio observed in the presence of active nisin suggested that the decline in metabolic activity of S. aureus Xen 36 was due to an immune response triggered by the infection. Nisin, active or inactive, stimulated the activity of cytokines interleukin-6, interleukin-10 and tumour necrosis factor. However, the overall immune response triggered by both forms of nisin was too minute to trigger an abnormally high antigenic immune reaction.  相似文献

Understanding the mechanism of the bacterial cell adhesion to solid surfaces is of great medical and industrial importance. Bacterial adhesion to inert surfaces, such as a catheter, and other indwelling devices can form biofilm, consequently cause severe morbidity and often fatal infections. Initial bacterial adhesion to the material surfaces is a complicated process that is affected by various physicochemical properties of both bacterial cells and substratum surfaces. The surface properties of the cells were characterized by the sessile drop technique. Moreover, the interfacial free energy of Staphylococcus aureus adhesion to the supporting materials was determined. The results showed that S. aureus examined at different pH levels could be considered hydrophilic. We noted hat the electron-donor character of S. aureus was important at intermediate pH (pH 5, pH 7, and pH 9) and it decreased at both limits acidic and basic conditions. In addition, the adhesion of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 to the hydrophilic glass and hydrophobic indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass surfaces at different pH values (2, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11) was investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and image analysis was assessed with the Mathlab® program. The data analysis showed that cells (number of adhering cells to glass and ITO-coated glass surface) adhered strongly at acidic pH and weakly at alkaline pH. Also, S. aureus has the ability to attach to both hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces, but the adhesion was higher on hydrophobic surface.  相似文献

Lactococcus lactis subsp lactis BSA (L. lactis BSA) was isolated from a commercial fermented product (BSA Food Ingredients, Montreal, Canada) containing mixed bacteria that are used as starter for food fermentation. In order to increase the bacteriocin production by L. lactis BSA, different fermentation conditions were conducted. They included different volumetric combinations of two culture media (the Man, Rogosa and Sharpe (MRS) broth and skim milk), agitation level (0 and 100 rpm) and concentration of commercial nisin (0, 0.15, and 0.30 µg/ml) added into culture media as stimulant agent for nisin production. During fermentation, samples were collected and used for antibacterial evaluation against Lactobacillus sakei using agar diffusion assay. Results showed that medium containing 50 % MRS broth and 50 % skim milk gave better antibacterial activity as compared to other medium formulations. Agitation (100 rpm) did not improve nisin production by L. lactis BSA. Adding 0.15 µg/ml of nisin into the medium-containing 50 % MRS broth and 50 % skim milk caused the highest nisin activity of 18,820 AU/ml as compared to other medium formulations. This activity was 4 and ~3 times higher than medium containing 100 % MRS broth without added nisin (~4700 AU/ml) and 100 % MRS broth with 0.15 µg/ml of added nisin (~6650 AU/ml), respectively.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to immobilise and characterise a variety of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) onto poly-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (pHEMA) surfaces to achieve an antibacterial effect. Four AMPs, viz. LL-37, melimine, lactoferricin and Mel-4 were immobilised on pHEMA by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) which assisted covalent attachment. Increasing concentrations of AMPs were immobilised to determine the effect on the adhesion of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The AMP immobilised pHEMAs were characterised by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to determine the surface elemental composition and by amino acid analysis to determine the total amount of AMP attached. In vitro cytotoxicity of the immobilised pHEMA samples to mouse L929 cells was investigated. Melimine and Mel-4 when immobilised at the highest concentrations showed 3.1 ± 0.6 log and 1.3 ± 0.2 log inhibition against P. aeruginosa, and 3.9 ± 0.6 log and 2.4 ± 0.5 log inhibition against S. aureus, respectively. Immobilisation of LL-37 resulted in up to 2.6 ± 1.0 log inhibition against only P. aeruginosa, but no activity against S. aureus. LFc attachment showed no antibacterial activity. Upon XPS analysis, immobilised melimine, LL-37, LFc and Mel-4 had 1.57 ± 0.38%, 1.13 ± 1.36%, 0.66 ± 0.47% and 0.73 ± 0.32% amide nitrogen attached to pHEMA compared to 0.12 ± 0.14% in the untreated controls. Amino acid analysis determined that the total amount of AMP attachment to pHEMA was 44.3 ± 7.4 nmol, 3.8?±?0.2?nmol, 6.5 ± 0.6 nmol and 48.9 ± 2.3 nmol for the same peptides respectively. None of the AMP immobilised pHEMA surfaces showed any toxicity towards mouse L929 cells. The immobilisation of certain AMPs at nanomolar concentration to pHEMA is an effective option to develop a stable antimicrobial surface.  相似文献

Enterococcus faecalis B3A-B3B produces the bacteriocin B3A-B3B with activity against Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens, but apparently not against fungi or Gram-negative bacteria, except for Salmonella Newport. B3A-B3B enterocin has two different nucleotides but similar amino acid composition to the class IIb MR10A-MR10B enterocin. B3A-B3B consists of two peptides of predicted molecular mass of 5176.31 Da (B3A) and 5182.21 Da (B3B). Importantly, B3A-B3B impeded biofilm formation of the foodborne pathogen L. monocytogenes 162 grown on stainless steel. The antimicrobial treatment of stainless steel with nisin (1 or 16 mg ml?1) decreased the cell numbers by about 2 log CFU ml?1, thereby impeding the biofilm formation by L. monocytogenes 162 or its nisin-resistant derivative strain L. monocytogenes 162R. Furthermore, the combination of nisin and B3A-B3B enterocin reduced the MIC required to inhibit this pathogen grown in planktonic or biofilm cultures.  相似文献

A multiplex PCR and DNA array for quick detection of Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli O157:H7, and Salmonella spp. was developed using specific genetic markers derived from virulence-related genes. The genetic markers of cytK, sei, prfA, rfB, and hilA gene specifically amplified DNA fragments of 320 bp, 500 bp, 700 bp, 1.0 kb and 1.2 kb from B. cereus, S. aureus, L. monocytogenes, E. coli O157:H7, and Salmonella spp., respectively. These markers are specific for the detection of the corresponding target pathogens. The sensitivity of the genetic markers was down to ~0.5 fg genomic DNA and ~101 CFU/ml (one bacterial cell per reaction) of bacterial culture. The combination of mPCR and DNA macroarray hybridization sensitively and specifically detected B. cereus, S. aureus, L. monocytogenes, E. coli O157:H7, and Salmonella spp., in complex mixed cultures and food matrices. Thus, this mPCR and macroarray-based approach serves as rapid and reliable diagnostic tool for the detection of these five pathogens.  相似文献

While nisin (lantibiotic), lacticin 3147 (lantibiotic) and vancomycin (glycopeptides) are among the best studied lipid II-binding antimicrobials, their relative activities have never been compared. Nisin and lacticin 3147 have been employed/investigated primarily as food preservatives, although they do have potential in terms of veterinary and clinical applications. Vancomycin is used exclusively in clinical therapy. We reveal a higher potency for lacticin 3147 (MIC 0.95?C3.8???g/ml) and vancomycin (MIC 0.78?C1.56???g/ml) relative to that of nisin (MIC 6.28?C25.14???g/ml) against the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes. A comparison of the activity of the three antimicrobials against nisin resistance mutants of L. monocytogenes also reveals that their susceptibility to vancomycin and lacticin 3147 changed only slightly or not at all. A further assessment of relative activity against a selection of Bacillus cereus, Enterococcus and Staphylococcus aureus targets revealed that vancomycin MICs consistently ranged between 0.78 and 1.56???g/ml against all but one strain. Lacticin 3147 was found to be more effective than nisin against B. cereus (lacticin 3147 MIC 1.9?C3.8???g/ml; nisin MIC 4.1?C16.7???g/ml) and E. faecium and E. faecalis targets (lacticin 3147 MIC from 1.9 to 3.8???g/ml; nisin MIC ??8.3???g/ml). The greater effectiveness of lacticin 3147 is even more impressive when expressed as molar values. However, in agreement with the previous reports, nisin was the more effective of the two lantibiotics against S. aureus strains. This study highlights that in many instances the antimicrobial activity of these leading lantibiotics are comparable with that of vancomycin and emphasizes their particular value with respect to use in situations including foods and veterinary medicine, where the use of vancomycin is not permitted.  相似文献

Dense and uniform polymer brush coatings were developed to combat marine biofouling. Nonionic hydrophilic, nonionic hydrophobic, cationic, anionic and zwitterionic polymer brush coatings were synthesized via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorostyrene, 2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl trimethylammonium chloride, 4-styrenesulfonic acid sodium and N,N′-dimethyl-(methylmethacryloyl ethyl) ammonium propanesulfonate, respectively. The functionalized surfaces had different efficacies in preventing adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA), adhesion of the Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas sp. NCIMB 2021 and the Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, and settlement of cyprids of the barnacle Amphibalanus amphitrite (=Balanus amphitrite). The nonionic hydrophilic, anionic and zwitterionic polymer brushes resisted BSA adsorption during a 2 h exposure period. The nonionic hydrophilic, cationic and zwitterionic brushes exhibited resistance to bacterial fouling (24 h exposure) and cyprid settlement (24 and 48 h incubation). The hydrophobic brushes moderately reduced protein adsorption, and bacteria and cyprid settlement. The anionic brushes were least effective in preventing attachment of bacteria and barnacle cyprids. Thus, the best approach to combat biofouling involves a combination of nonionic hydrophilic and zwitterionic polymer brush coatings on material surfaces.  相似文献

This study evaluated individual contributions of dissolving acids (acetic acid, lactic acid, and hydrochloric acid) or acid solubilized chitosan to the antibacterial activity against Listeria innocua and Escherichia coli as solutions and dried films. Solutions containing chitosan showed significantly (P?<?0.05) different inhibitory activity (measured as percentage of inhibition (PI), in percent) against L. innocua and E. coli, compared to equivalent acid solutions. This increase was calculated as additional inhibition (AI, in percent), which could be as high as 65 % in solutions containing 300–320 kDa chitosan depending on the acid type, bacterial species, and the chitosan form (α or β). Solutions containing 4–5 kDa chitosan had lower AI and showed much greater variability among the different chitosan forms, acid types, and bacterial species. Higher molecular weight (Mw) chitosan also showed significantly higher levels of adsorption to bacterial cells than that of lower Mw samples, suggesting that the observed increase in inhibition was the result of surface phenomena. The contribution of acids to the antibacterial activity of chitosan films was assessed by comparing non-rinsed and rinsed films (rinsed in the appropriate broth to remove residual acids and active fragments formed on the dried film). Rinsing β-chitosan films has reduced PI by as much as 28 % compared with non-rinsed films, indicating that part of the antibacterial activity of chitosan films is due to the presence of soluble acid compounds and/or other active fragments. Overall, both acidulant and chitosan were found to contribute to the antibacterial activity of acid solubilized α- and β-chitosan, with the exact antibacterial activity of chitosan varying based on the solution and film properties, suggesting a complex interaction.  相似文献

The strain Lactobacillus plantarum DM5 was isolated from fermented beverage Marcha of Sikkim and explored for its antagonistic activity against food-borne pathogens. The cell-free supernatant of L. plantarum DM5 showed antibacterial activity of 6,400 AU/mL in MRS medium (pH 6.0) against the indicator strain Staphylococcus aureus. MRS medium supplemented with 15 g/L of maltose at 37 °C under static condition yielded highest antimicrobial activity (6,400 AU/mL) with 3 % increase in specific activity when compared to 20 g/L glucose. The antimicrobial compound was heat stable (60 min at 100 °C) and was active over a wide pH range. It showed bactericidal effect on S. aureus and Listeria monocytogenes by causing 96 and 98 % of cell lysis, respectively. The cell morphology of the treated S. aureus and L. monocytogenes was completely deformed as revealed by scanning electron microscopy, suggesting the high potential of L. plantarum DM5 as natural preservatives in food industry. The antimicrobial compound was purified by 80 % ammonium sulphate precipitation and showed antimicrobial activity of 12,800 AU/mL with 19-fold purification and a molecular mass of 15.2 kDa, indicating the proteinaceous nature of the compound.  相似文献

Study of peptides adsorption on surfaces remains a current challenge in literature. A complementary approach, combining X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and time‐of‐flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF‐SIMS) was used to investigate the antimicrobial peptide nisin adsorption on hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces. The native low density polyethylene was used as hydrophobic support and it was grafted with acrylic acid to render it hydrophilic. XPS permitted to confirm nisin adsorption and to determine its amount on the surfaces. ToF‐SIMS permitted to identify the adsorbed bacteriocin type and to observe its distribution and orientation behavior on both types of surfaces. Nisin was more oriented by its hydrophobic side to the hydrophobic substrate and by its hydrophilic side to the outer layers of the adsorbed peptide, in contrast to what was observed on the hydrophilic substrate. A correlation was found between XPS and ToF‐SIMS results, the types of interactions on both surfaces and the observed antibacterial activity. Such interfacial studies are crucial for better understanding the peptides interactions and adsorption on surfaces and must be considered when setting up antimicrobial surfaces. Nisin is an antimicrobial polypeptide inhibitory toward Gram-positive bacterial pathogens, including Listeria monocytogenes. Encapsulating nisin in lipid nanocapsules (i.e., liposomes) has been shown to protect antimicrobial functionality in complex food matrices. The capacity of liposomes to encapsulate a fluorescent reporter was determined via spectroscopy. Survival and growth of L. monocytogenes incubated in fluid milk containing 50 IU/ml free or liposome-entrapped nisin was assayed via periodic enumeration of survivors. Liposomes were formulated from phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidyl-DL-glycerol (PG) and prepared as PC, PC/PG 7/3 or PC/PG 6/4 (mol. fraction). Antilisterial activity of nisin-loaded liposomes was determined in ultra-high temperature processed fluid milk containing approximately 4.0 log10 CFU/ml L. monocytogenes Scott A plus liposomal or free nisin at 50 IU/mL. Samples were aerobically held at 5 or 20°C; L. monocytogenes were enumerated via plating after 0, 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 incubation hours. Liposome entrapment did not enhance pathogen inhibition when compared to free nisin as a function of storage temperature or incubation duration.  相似文献

Polystyrene surfaces were conditioned with surfactin and rhamnolipid biosurfactants and then assessed regarding the attachment of Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, and Micrococcus luteus. The effect of different temperatures (35, 25, and 4°C) on the anti-adhesive activity was also studied. Microbial adhesion to solvents and contact angle measurements were performed to characterize bacteria and material surfaces. The results showed that surfactin was able to inhibit bacterial adhesion in all the conditions analyzed, giving a 63–66% adhesion reduction in the bacterial strains at 4°C. Rhamnolipid promoted a slight decrease in the attachment of S. aureus. The anti-adhesive activity of surfactin increased with the decrease in temperature, showing that this is an important parameter to be considered in surface conditioning tests. Surfactin showed good potential as an anti-adhesive compound that can be explored to protect surfaces from microbial contamination.  相似文献
