Maleated thermoplastic starch by reactive extrusion   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Novel maleated thermoplastic starch (MTPS) with both improved processing and reactivity useful in the melt-blending with biodegradable polyester was prepared through in situ reactive modification of thermoplastic starch (TPS) with maleic anhydride (MA) as esterification agent. Glycerol was used as plasticizer. Physico-chemical parameters of MTPS were determined at different MA contents, while keeping both the content in glycerol (20 wt% by starch), and the processing temperature constant (150 °C). Soxhlet extraction attested for the complete incorporation of glycerol into the starch backbone during the maleation process at low content in MA. In addition, two-dimensional liquid-phase NMR measurements attested for the preferential esterification of starch backbone at C6, together with the occurrence of some hydrolysis and glucosidation reactions. Such reactions promoted by MA moieties reduced the intrinsic viscosity of the MTPS, expecting an improvement in its processability. WAXS diffraction analyses confirmed the complete disruption of the granular structure of native starch in MTPS during the reactive extrusion processing.  相似文献

Native corn starch was hydrolyzed with 0.36% HCl in methanol at 25 and 45 °C for periods of time up to 240 h. The action of acid penetration and hydrolysis was investigated by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-performance anion-exchange chromatography (HPAEC) and high-performance size-exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) equipped with viscometry, right-angle laser light scattering (RALLS) and refractive index (RI) detectors. Corn starch hydrolyzed at 45 °C for 240 h showed strong intensity of APTS (8-amino-1,3,6-pyrenetrisulfonic acid) fluorescence and sharp growth ring structure. Exocorrosion over the surface of corn starch was only observed on the corn starch hydrolyzed at 25 °C for 240 h and observed on all corn starch hydrolyzed at 45 °C. The Mw and Rh of acid-hydrolyzed corn starch decreased with increasing the degree of hydrolysis. The acid hydrolysis rate in methanol of corn starch was mainly dependent on the temperature, which dominated the penetration efficiency of acid.  相似文献

The effects of starch structural properties and starch modification on extruder operation were monitored via die pressure, motor torque, mean residence time and specific mechanical energy (SME). The structural properties studied involved variations in the ratios of amylose and amylopectin as well as the effect of a hydroxypropylated starch on the fore mentioned extruder properties. A full factorial design of experiments (DOE) was used to then determine the influence of starch type (unmodified starches with 0%, 28%, 50% and 80% amylose; 80% amylose hydroxypropylated starch) and screw speed (250, 300 and 350 rpm) on these processing parameters. The effects of starch type and screw speed on extrusion operation that were systematically investigated using the DOE and have provided valuable insight into the relationships between starch structure and processing. The design of experiments showed that starch type for both unmodified and modified maize had a statistically significant effect on parameters such as torque, die pressure and specific mechanical energy and that screw speed also significantly effected specific mechanical energy. Residence time distributions differed according to starch type (amylose content, hydroxypropylation) and screw speed. The additional study of residence time distribution also gave an indication of the degree of mixing in the extruder. Starch type variations were apparent at low screw speed however at higher screw speed the influence of starch type decreased significantly.  相似文献

Freeze-concentration of starch gels was controlled by temperature and gelatinization with glucose and lactose. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of freezing temperature and gel composition on starch recrystallization behaviour of corn and potato starch gels (water content 70%, w/w) in water or glucose or lactose (10%, w/w) solutions. Starch gels were obtained by heating in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Samples of starch gels were frozen at -10 degrees C, -20 degrees C and -30 degrees C for 24h and, after thawing, stored at +2 degrees C for 0, 1, 2, 4 and 8 days. The extent of starch recrystallization was taken from the enthalpy of melting of the recrystallized starch by DSC. Freezing temperatures, glucose, lactose and the origin of the starch affected the recrystallization behaviour greatly. The recrystallization of amorphous starch during storage was enhanced by freeze-concentration of gels at temperatures above T'(m). Molecular mobility was enhanced by unfrozen water and consequently molecular rearrangements for nucleation could take place. Further storage at a higher temperature enhanced the growth and the maturation of crystals. In particular, glucose decreased the T'(m) of the gels and consequently lower freezing temperatures were needed to reduce enhanced recrystallization during storage. Freeze-concentration temperatures also showed a significant effect on the size and the perfection of crystals formed in starch recrystallization.  相似文献

Molecular fractionation of starch by density-gradient ultracentrifugation   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Amylose and amylopectin in corn and potato starches were fractionated by centrifugation at 124,000g for 3-72 h at 40 degrees C in a gradient media, Nycodenz, based on their sedimentation rate differences. The fractions were collected from a centrifuge tube, and then analyzed by the phenol-sulfuric acid method and iodine-binding test. Amylopectin, a large and highly branched starch molecule, migrated faster than amylose and quickly reached its isopycnic point with a buoyant density of about 1.25 g/mL, exhibiting a sharp and stable carbohydrate peak. Amylose, which is a relatively small and linear molecule, however, migrated slowly in a broad density range and continued moving to higher density regions, eventually overlapping with amylopectin peak as the centrifugation continued. This could indicate that the buoyant density of amylose is similar to that of amylopectin. Under centrifugal conditions of 3 h and 124,000g, amylose and amylopectin molecules were clearly separated, and the presence of intermediate starch molecules (11.5 and 7.7% for corn and potato starch, respectively) was also observed between amylose and amylopectin fractions. The amylose content of corn and potato starches was 22.6 and 21.1%, respectively, based on the total carbohydrate analysis after the ultracentrifugation for 3 h. In alkaline gradients (pH 11 or 12.5), the sedimentation rate of starch molecules and the buoyant density of amylopectin were reduced, possibly due to the structural changes induced by alkali.  相似文献

Thermoplastic starch was prepared by mixing native high amylose potato starch and normal potato starch in a Buss co-kneading extruder at starch to glycerol ratios of 100:45 and 100:30. The materials were also conditioned to different moisture contents at different relative humidities at 23 °C. After the mixing, the compounds were extruded into sheets with a Brabender laboratory extruder. The thermoplastic high amylose materials exhibited a higher melt viscosity than the normal potato starch materials when conditioned at 53% relative humidity. Increasing the moisture content in HAP from 27% to 30% (by weight) lowered the melt viscosity to the same level as that of normal potato starch with a moisture content of 28%. In general, the high amylose materials were more difficult to extrude than the thermoplastic material based on normal starch. The main extrusion problems encountered with the high amylose starch were unstable flow, insufficient melt tenacity and clogging of the die. By increasing the moisture content, increasing the compression ratio of the screw and increasing the rotation rate of the screw, the problems were reduced or eliminated. However, only with a starch to glycerol ratio of 100:45 was an acceptable extrusion result obtained. Extruded sheets of such high amylose materials had a stress at break of about 5 MPa at room temperature and 53% relative humidity, whereas the corresponding value for normal potato (thermoplastic) starch was 3 MPa. The elongation at break was also higher in the case of the high amylose material. The results are discussed in terms of residual crystallinity of the starch materials.  相似文献

Abstract The capability of secreting thermoactive enzymes exhibiting α-amylase and pullulanase with debraching activity, seems to be widely distributed amongst anaerobic thermophilic bacteria. Interestingly, pullulanase formed by these bacteria displays dual specificity by attacking α-1,6- as well as α-1,4-glycosidic linkages in branched glucose polymers. Unlike the enzyme system of aerobic microorganisms the majority of starch hydrolysing enzymes of anaerobic bacteria is metal indepedent and is extremely thermostable. This enzyme system is controlled by substrate induction and catabolite repression; enzyme expression is accomplished when maltose or maltose-containing carbohydrates are used as substrates. By developing a process in continuous culture we were able to greatly enhance enzyme synthesis and release by anaerobic thermophilic bacteria. An elevation in the specific activities of cell-free amylases and pullulanases could also be achieved by entrapping of bacteria in calcium alginate beads. The unique properties of extracellular enzymes of thermophilic anaerobic bacteria makes this group of organisms suitable candidates for inductrial application.  相似文献

Modification of maize starch by thermal processing in glacial acetic acid   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods were used to determine if corn starch–glacial acetic acid mixtures can be melted and thermally processed at reasonable temperatures. DSC studies showed that the melting temperature of dry starch was reduced from about 280 to 180°C in the presence of >30% acetic acid. Glass transition temperatures varied from 110 to 40°C at 15 and 45% acetic acid, respectively. XRD showed the loss of native starch crystallinity and the formation of V-type complexes. Addition of 10% water decreased the melting temperatures to 140–150°C while addition of a base (sodium acetate) had little effect. Some possible applications of processing starch in glacial acetic acid will be discussed.  相似文献

Shear-thickening and shear-induced pattern formation in starch solutions   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Since Dintzis et al. reported shear-thickening behavior and shear-induced pattern formation in semidilute starch solutions for the first time in 1995, considerable efforts have been made to understand the science behind these observations. Despite these efforts, however, many questions regarding this behavior of starch solutions remain. Using a Brookfield programmable rheometer and a custom-built shear microscope, starch solutions in alkaline solution medium were investigated. In this report, we present data leading to the following conclusions: (1) gently prepared starch solutions are macroscopically heterogeneous with regions of highly concentrated gel-like structures dispersed in dilute starch solution; (2) shear breaks up these heterogeneous regions, increasing in viscosity (shear-thickening) which is thus seen to be a result of an increase in the concentration of dissolved starch; (3) pattern formation, observed when the solution is exposed to higher shear rate, is the result of a separate shear-induced aggregation process; and (4) aggregations are not induced below a certain critical threshold shear rate and time is also a factor in the behavior of the aggregate.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate some mechanical properties of starch films. Starch is a natural common polymer in nature and the use of natural materials is increasing in the industries. In this study, the mechanical properties of starch plasticized with 30 parts by weight, of glycerol, are investigated. For the mechanical testing films of different thickness were used, the thickness varied between 0.5 and 2.5 mm. Tg was measured with a differential scanning calorimeter and with a dynamical mechanical analysis. The starch films were tested in tension and characterised in terms of stiffness, strength and failure strain. Fracture toughness was measured by single edge notch tests. Both stiffness and strength showed a strong dependence on film thickness, stronger then expected from linear fracture mechanics. This can be due to the different molecule orientation in the films, and due to the crystallinity of the films.  相似文献

Starch nanocrystals (SNC) are crystalline square-like platelet about 10 nm thick and 50-100 nm equivalent diameters. Depending on the botanic origin of starch these platelets show different features. The aim of the present study was (i) to assess the thermal stability of SNC in different processing conditions (i.e., excess water and dry) and (ii) to investigate the potential influence of botanic origin on thermal stability. The thermal properties of five types of starches (waxy maize, normal maize, high amylose maize, potato and wheat) and their corresponding SNC were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). SNC revealed two endothermic transitions. No correlation between melting temperature and botanic origin was found. However, a review of starch thermal properties allowed to postulate for the mechanism involved in SNC thermal transitions. It was also found that SNC can be used in wet processes below 100 °C and in dry processes below 150-200 °C to avoid melting.  相似文献

Surface of corn starch films was modified through esterification using dodecenyl succinic anhydride (DDSA) as reactant. The effects of reaction temperature and time, concentration of alkaline aqueous solution for activating starch, concentration of ethanol diluted DDSA, and time of alkaline aqueous solution treatment on the physical properties related to material’s hydrophilic nature, such as moisture absorption and surface water contact angle, were investigated. It was found that the surface esterification modification significantly reduced the moisture sensitivity and surface hydrophilic character of starch film. Due to the hydroxyl groups in the film surface layer were reacted with DDSA, the equilibrium moisture content of the starch film under 95% RH declined 22% and the surface water contact angle increased up to 82% after surface esterification modification.  相似文献

Pasting viscosity and in vitro digestibility of oven-dried powders of waxy and normal corn starch gels (40% solids) retrograded under an isothermal (4 °C) or temperature cycled (4/30 °C) storage were investigated. Temperature cycling induced higher onset temperature for melting of amylopectin crystals than isothermal storage under a differential scanning calorimeter whereas little difference in crystalline type was observed under X-ray diffraction analysis. Temperature cycling caused higher pasting temperature and viscosity for the retrograded starches than isothermal storage. The retrograded waxy corn starch powders exhibited pasting behaviors similar to that of native waxy corn starch. However, the retrograded normal corn starch powders showed very much different pasting patterns with lower pasting viscosity but higher pasting temperature than native starch counterpart. The retrogradation increased slowly digestible starch content without changing resistant starch content, more effectively by the temperature cycling than the isothermal storage.  相似文献

Multi-endotherms of the gelatinization of corn starch, such as G, M1, M2, and Z endotherms, have been detected by DSC. The retrogradation of corn starch after initial thermal treatment at different temperatures was studied by DSC; in particular, the effect of thermal treatment before and after each endotherm of gelatinization on retrogradation was determined as a function of annealing time. The effect of thermal treatment at a certain temperature on the residual gelatinization endotherm at a higher temperature is also discussed. It was found that the higher temperature of thermal treatment always removed all the endotherms below that temperature. However, a certain thermal treatment temperature could affect the residual endotherm above this treatment temperature. The time-dependent retrogradation of corn starch is mainly due to G and M1 endotherms. The temperature and enthalpy of the melting of amylose–lipid complexes M2 and nonlipid complex amylose Z were not affected by aging time. The final enthalpy of retrogradation was found to be lower than that of gelatinization.  相似文献

The occurrence of surface effects in the acetylation of granular potato starch with acetic anhydride to degrees of substitution 0.04-0.2 was studied by two different approaches. The first approach involved the fractionation of granular starch acetates into five different size classes and analysis of their acetate content. Alternatively, two narrow size fractions of potato starch acetate granules were surface-peeled by chemical gelatinization in 5M CaCl(2), and the remaining cores were analyzed for acetyl content at different peeling levels. It was established that true surface peeling occurs in this medium and that the ester linkages are stable under the conditions applied. Both approaches led to the conclusion that the acetylation of potato starch granules is accompanied by a pronounced surface effect. The surface peeling method allows determination of the extent of substitution as a function of the radial position in the starch granule.  相似文献

The rates of starch breakdown at thermogenesis by clubs of the spadices of Arum maculatum L. were measured in individual clubs still attached to the plants. The values obtained were used as estimates of the rate of glycolysis at thermogenesis. Such rates were shown to exceed the maximum catalytic activities of phosphofructokinase (E.C. 2.7.1.11.), aldolase (E.C. 4.1.2.7.), and glyceraldehydephosphate dehydrogenase (E.C. 1.2.1.12.) in developing clubs. The marked increases in the activities of the above enzymes that occur during the development of the club have been shown to be a prerequisite for the attainment of the high rate of glycolysis found at thermogenesis, and thus to be an example of coarse control of glycolysis.  相似文献
