Clestobothrium gibsoni n. sp. is described from the intestine of the bullseye grenadier Bathygadus macrops (Macrouridae) collected in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. The new species can be distinguished from both C. crassiceps (Rudolphi, 1819), the type-species of the genus, and C. neglectum (Lönnberg, 1893), the second species in the genus, by its unique ovary, which is transversely elongate and tapered on both ends rather than being U-or H-shaped, and by having more testes (60-65 vs 40-50 and 35-45 per proglottid). The new species is also compared to Bothriocephalus acheilognathi Yamaguti, 1934 and B. kivuensis Baer & Fain, 1954, two species with similar scoleces which have previously been assigned to Clestobothrium . The generic diagnosis of Clestobothrium is amended to include species with either anoperculate or operculate eggs. This is the first report of an adult tapeworm from a species of Bathygadus , and the first report of a species of Clestobothrium Lühe, 1899 (Bothriocephalidae) from the Gulf of Mexico.  相似文献

Summary Bothriocephalus specimens from one Ctenopharyngodon idella (O+) were fixed using three different techniques and the scolex morphology was examined using scanning electron microscopy. The scolices were compared with figures of the five species of Bothriocephalus and one species of Schyzocotyle previously described from cyprinid fishes. The taxonomic history of the Bothriocephalus species parasitizing cyprinid fish is reviewed. It is concluded that there is only one Bothriocephalus species parasitizing cyprinid fishes, and that continued use should be made of the name B. acheilognathi Yamaguti, 1934. ac]19840326  相似文献

Allodidymozoon gasterale n. sp. and A. operculare Madhavi, 1982 (Digenea: Didymozoidae) were found encysted in pairs in the stomach wall and head muscles, respectively, of the yellow-finned barracuda Sphyraena obtusata in Kuwait Bay, northern Arabian Gulf. The new species can be distinguished from congeneric species by the site of infection, the arrangement of the two individuals in the cyst, the numbers of ovarian and vitelline terminal branches, the size and shape of testes, and the presence of a seminal receptacle. The two didymozoids were examined under the scanning electron microscope.  相似文献

A new nematode species, Paracapillaria epinepheli, is described from the stomach of the marine fish Epinephelus morio (Valenciennes), the red grouper, (Serranidae, Perciformes) from coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico in Yucatan, southeastern Mexico. It is characterised mainly by its small body (body length of male and female 2.73–3.22 mm and 5.94–6.35 mm, respectively), number (31–36) and structure of the stichocytes, length of the spicule (0.180–0.195 mm), structure of the male caudal bursa (considerably reduced), structure and size of the eggs (size 0.057–0.063 × 0.027–0.030 mm), and by their site within the host. It is the second Paracapillaria species known to occur in the marine and estuarine fishes of the Gulf of Mexico.  相似文献

Littorellicola billhawkinsi n. gen., n. sp. infects the myocardial lacunae of the ventricle and atrium of Florida pompano, Trachinotus carolinus in the northern Gulf of Mexico. It differs from other aporocotylid genera by the combination of having a body 10–30× longer than wide, a posterolateral body protuberance, lateral spine rows, an aspinous anterior sucker comprising a slightly muscular rim circumscribing the mouth, asymmetrical posterior ceca 14–20× length of the anterior ceca and lacking diverticula or secondary rami, tens of testes distributing in a cobblestone-like field anterior and posterior to the distal ends of the posterior ceca, an oviducal seminal receptacle comprising the distal portion of the oviduct, and a post-cecal ovary plus by lacking rosethorn-shaped spines, a pharynx, and a Laurer's canal. The new species appears host specific to Florida pompano because no conspecific infection was detected in 134 carangids of 8 species in 4 genera captured nearby the type locality. Psettarium sebastodorum Holmes, 1971 is transferred to the new genus, as Littorellicola sebastodorum (Holmes, 1971) n. comb., because it and the new species differ from species of Psettarium by the combination of having multiple testes plus 8 other features detailed herein. This report brings the number of nominal Gulf of Mexico aporocotylids to 12 species of 8 genera, represents only the second record of an aporocotylid from a carangid there, and supports the notion that elongated, “thread-like” aporocotylids with lateral spine rows are seemingly well-adapted for infecting myocardial lacunae or embedding in the myocardium of their definitive fish hosts.  相似文献

Selachohemecus benzi Bullard & Overstreet n. sp. infects the heart and kidney of the blacktip shark Carcharhinus limbatus in the northern Gulf of Mexico off Florida and Mississippi, USA. Specimens of S.␣olsoni Short, 1954, the only congener and only other named blood fluke reported from a chondrichthyan in the Gulf of Mexico, were collected from the heart of the Atlantic sharpnose shark Rhizoprionodon terraenovae from two new localities, Apalachicola Bay, Florida, and Mississippi Sound, Mississippi, USA. The new species differs from S. olsoni by having a larger body (1.4–3.8 mm long), robust tegumental body spines numbering 51–63 along each lateral body margin, a testis extending from the posterior caeca to the ovary, and a medial ovary with lobes. We amend the diagnosis of Selachohemecus Short, 1954 to accommodate it and provide a diagnostic key for all named chondrichthyan blood flukes.  相似文献

Schikhobalotrema longivesiculatum sp.n from Blennius sanguinolentus Pallas, 1811 at Gulf of Gaeta (Italy) is described, figured and compared with other species of the genus Schikhobalotrema Skrjabin et Guschanskaja, 1955. Schikhobalotrema longivesiculatum differs from Schikhobalotrema obtusa (Linton, 1916) Skrjabin et Guschanskaja, 1955, especially for sucker ratio, lobed ovary, seminal vesicle coiled and in larger size of eggs; from Schikhobalotrema pomacentri (Manter, 1937) Skrjabin et Guschanskaja, 1955 for lobed ovary, elongated seminal receptacle, smaller vitelline follicles and coiled seminal vesicle; from Schikhobalotrema sparisomae (Manter, 1937) Skrjabin et Guschanskaja, 1955 for elongated seminal receptacle, coiled seminal vesicle and extent of escretory vesicle.  相似文献

Scorpidotrema longistipes n. g., n. sp. is described from the intestine of Scorpis georgiana Valenciennes (Scorpididae) from off Point Peron, Western Australia. The new genus is distinguished by the combination of a remarkably long and retractable ventral sucker peduncle, a possible uroproct, well-developed cirrus-sac and a uterine seminal receptacle. The subfamilial relationships of the new genus are troublesome. It incorporates features of the Opecoelinae, Stenakrinae and Plagioporinae. The absence of a canalicular seminal receptacle suggests a relationship with the Opecoelinae and Stenakrinae, whereas the well-developed cirrus-sac suggests a relationship with the Plagioporinae and Stenakrinae. The overall arrangement of the gonads is not similar to that of existing genera of Stenakrinae. It is concluded that the genus is best placed in the Stenakrinae although that subfamily may now be an artificial assemblage. This new genus forms part of a distinctive fauna of trematodes restricted to Australian southern temperate fishes.  相似文献

Halarachnion is a newly reported genus for the Gulf of Mexico where it is represented by an undescribed species growing attached to rhodoliths at 52–73 m depth offshore Louisiana in the northwestern Gulf, USA. Aspects of the vegetative and female reproductive morphology of the Gulf species are documented, and compared to of Halarachnion latissimun from Japan. Halarachnion louisianensis sp. nov. is a monoecious, presumably heteromorphic species as inferred from the absence of tetrasporophytic specimens in our collections. Halarachnion latissimum, in contrast, is a dioecious species that is isomorphic. A distinct reproductive character that differentiates both species is the behavior of a connecting filament of which a lateral process fuses with an auxiliary cell lobe and effects more than one diploidization in H. louisianensis versus directly fusing with an auxiliary cell and effecting only a single diploidization in H. latissimum. Comparative chloroplast‐encoded rbcL sequence analysis indicates that the closest species relationship of isolates from the Gulf of Mexico remains equivocal, whereas reproductive morphology points to a closer affinity with H. ligulatum. This is the first report of the Furcellariaceae, a family in the Solieriaceae‐complex, for the Gulf of Mexico.  相似文献

During January 2002, 3 specimens of an undescribed species of Oochoristica Lühe, 1898, were collected in Ctenosaura pectinata (Wiegmann, 1834) from Santa Mará Mixtequilla, Oaxaca, Mexico. Oochoristica leonregagnonae n. sp. differs from 71 of 82 species of the genus by its large number of testes (78-112 [95] vs. less than 65 per proglottid, respectively). In addition, the numerous ovarian lobes (31-79 [51]) possessed by the new species distinguish it from the other 10, with a maximum of 20 ovarian lobes. The new species differs from Oochoristica acapulcoensis Brooks, Pérez-Ponce de León and García-Prieto, 1999, which also infects C. pectinata in Mexico, by the presence of numerous staining granules throughout the parenchyma of the scolex in the latter species; likewise, testes in O. acapulcoensis reach and even overpass the excretory canals, whereas in the new species they are limited to the central region between these tubules.  相似文献

Macrourimegatrema gadoma n. sp. (Digenea: Opecoelidae: Plagioporinae) is described from the pyloric caeca and intestine of the doublethread grenadier Gadomus arcuatus (Goode & Bean) (Macrouridae) collected from the northeastern Gulf of Mexico and off Venezuela. The new species differs from Macrourimegatrema brayi Blend, Dronen & Armstrong, 2004, the type and only species in the genus, in the distribution of the vitelline follicles and gonads, a larger body size, and the presence of highly-folded caeca with numerous outpocketings or pouches. It is suggested that species of Macrourimegatrema Blend, Dronen & Armstrong, 2004 probably infect their piscine hosts through the ingestion of a benthopelagic crustacean.  相似文献

Branchinecta oterosanvicentei, new species, a fairy shrimp endemic to the south of Coahuila, Mexico is described and figured. Differential features between the new species and the related B. lindahli are discussed on the basis of a SEM micrographs. The main diagnostic characters of Branchinecta oterosanvicentei are: (1) a pulvinus covered by scales localized on the middle of the median side of the proximal article of antenna, and (2) a network of prominent cortical crests on the cyst surface. Of seven Branchinecta species occurring in Mexico, four (B. belki, B. mexicana, B. oterosanvicentei, and B. sandiegonensis) have a restricted geographic range. Because, in addition, extreme fluctuations in the number of mature individuals per population occur, the survival of all of these species is threatened, and measures should be taken to protect them. Branchinecta mackini has a wide distribution in North America, but even this form is rare in Mexico.  相似文献

Neoechinorhynchus (Neoechinorhynchus) chimalapasensis n. sp. (Eoacanthocephala: Neoechinorhynchidae) is described from the intestine of Awaous banana (Valenciennes) (Pisces: Gobiidae) collected in the Río Negro, a tributary in the upper Río Coatzacoalcos basin, Santa María Chimalapa, Oaxaca State, Mexico. It is the third species of Neoechinorhynchus Stiles & Hassall, 1905 described from Mexican freshwater fishes, although 36 other species are known from freshwater fishes in the Americas. Like four other species of Neoechinorhynchus from freshwater fishes in North America and Mexico, N. (N.) limi Muzzall & Buckner, 1982, (N.) rutili (Müller, 1780) Stiles & Hassall, 1905, N. (N.) salmonis Ching, 1984 and N. (N.) roseus Salgado-Maldonado, 1978, males and females of the new species are less than 20 mm in length, lack conspicuous sexual dimorphism in size, have a small proboscis of about 0.1 mm in length with the largest hooks being the anteriormost, about 30–90 μm in length and of equal size, and have subequal lemnisci, larger than the proboscis receptacle but still relatively short and, in males, generally restricted to a position considerably anterior to the testes. The new species is closest to N. (N.) roseus, but it is distinguished from it by having: (1) a slightly larger cylindrical proboscis with almost parallel sides versus a globular proboscis with a rounded tip which is shorter and somewhat wider in N. (N.) roseus; (2) smaller but robust anterior proboscis hooks that do not reach the equatorial level or extend beyond the hooks of the middle circle as in N. (N.) roseus; and (3) the female gonopore situated ventrally subterminal, as opposed to being a significant distance anteriorly to the posterior extremity in N. (N.) roseus.  相似文献

Activities and properties of adenosine triphosphatases (ATPases) were studied in mitochondrial and microsomal fractions of cestodes Bothriocephalus scorpii parasitizing in pyloric appendages of the Brandt’s bullhead Myoxocephalus brandti. The highest activity was revealed in the mitochondrial fraction. The mitochondrial and microsomal fractions of B. scorpii had the ATPase activity dependent on the presence of cations Mg2+, Mn2+, and Ca2+. Effects of ions and inhibitors on the B. scorpii ATPase activity with various cations were. Both subcellular fractions were able to hydrolyze, apart from ATP, also GTP, CTP, and UTP.  相似文献

Fifteen species of dactylogyrid monogeneans, belong to Dactylogyrus and Dogielius were observed in seven different African species of Barbus and Varicorhinus (Teleostei, Cyprinidae). The barbels examined in West Africa were: Barbus occidentalis Boulenger, 1911, known in the large Sahel-Sudan rivers and in Gabon: B. waldroni Nordman, 1935, B. petitjeani Daget, 1962, B. sacratus Daget, 1963, B. parawaldroni Lévêque, Thys van den Audenaerde & Traoré, 1987 and Varicorhinus wurtzi (Pellegrin, 1908) are distributed in various coastal rivers in the Gulf of Guinea. B. bynni (Forskal, 1775) the seventh species, is found in East Africa where it is known in the Nile Basin and the lakes connected with it. Three previously reported monogeneans were found: Dactylogyrus pseudanchoratus Price & Géry, 1968, was identified on all the host species studied; D. falcilocus Guégan, Lambert & Euzet, 1988, was found on V. wurtzi from Little Scarcies in Guinea; D. ruahae Paperna, 1973, was found on B. sacratus, B. parawaldroni and V. wurtzi in the rivers flowing from the Fouta Djalon mountains in Guinea to the Atlantic.Twelve new species of monogeneans are described. Eight belong to Dactylogyrus Diesing, 1850 and the four others to Dogielius Bychowsky, 1936. Seven of the dactylogyrids described display strict specificity for their host fish: Dactylogyrus clani n. sp. and D. petitjeanii n. sp. on B. petitjeani; Dactylogyrus sacrati n. sp. and Dogielius phrygieus n. sp. on B. sacratus; Dactylogyrus parawaldronii n. sp. on B. parawaldroni; and Dactylogyrus wurtzii n. sp. and Dogielius vexillus n. sp. on V. wurtzi. The remainder have a broader host spectrum: Dactylogyrus archaeopenis n. sp. on B. petitjeani, B. sacratus and B. parawaldroni; Dogielius pedaloe n. sp. on B. parawaldroni and V. wurtzi; Dactylogyrus aferoides n. sp. and Dactylogyrus sahelensis n. sp. on B. occidentalis, B. waldroni, B. petitjeani and B. bynni; and Dogielius djolibaensis n. sp. identified on B. occidentalis, B. petitjeani and B. waldroni.Characteristics of gill parasitism in three particular hosts, B. bynni, B. occidentalis and B. waldroni, confirm the current opinion of the existence of clinal variations in individual Barbus specific complexes belonging to isolated basins. We discuss the differences in the composition of gill parasitofauna of barbels from different catchment areas. Cyprinids in isolated catchments in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia are parasitised in particular by interesting monogeneans which are true relic taxa. The problem of the use of these parasite groups as palaeo-ecological markers is raised.  相似文献
