All pith samples from 68 dead saguaro cacti in 3 plots and 11 isolated dead plants in Saguaro National Monument, Arizona, produced at least one species of myxomycete upon incubation at 20 or 30°C. Three species,Badhamia gracilis (Macbr.) Macbr.,Physarum straminipes Lister, andDidymium eremophilum M. Blackwell et Gilbertson, developed at high frequencies on the substrates in moist chamber culture.Perichaena corticalis (Batsch) Rost, andProtophysarum phloiogenum M. Blackwell et Alexopoulos were also present. Although previous literature reports [9] indicated that Myxomycetes grow best at low pH, these species all tolerated substrates of pH 8.7–10.4.Didymium eremophilum andP. phloiogenum had peaks in sporulation within 6 days; other species were slower. There was no difference in time of sporulation ofB. gracilis orD. eremophilum at 20 and 30°C; however, sporulation ofP. straminipes was significantly later at 30°C. Reduced spore germination and slower buildup of critically sized amoebal populations ofP. straminipes at 30°C may be a factor.  相似文献

Vesicular-arbuscular (VA) mycorrhizal fungi in pure patches of coastal dune plantsElymus mollis, Wedelia prostrata andZoysia macrostachya were examined for frequency of occurrence and number of spores of VA mycorrhizal fungi over one year. Six species in three genera of VA mycorrhizal fungi were recovered. Under a patch ofE. mollis, spores ofAcaulospora sp. 1,Glomus tortuosum, Glomus sp. 1,Glomus sp. 2 andScutellospora gregaria were recovered. Spores ofGlomus spp. were most common. In patches ofW. prostrata andZ. macrostachya spores ofAcaulospora sp. 1,G. tortuosum, Glomus sp. 1,Glomus sp. 2,S. gregaria andScutellospora sp. 1 were found.Contribution No. 112, Laboratories of Plant Pathology and Mycology, Institute of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Tsukuba.  相似文献

Seeds ofKarwinskia humboldtiana obtained from a 1997 collection in the locality of Villa de García Nuevo (León, Mexico) were contaminated with spores of filamentous fungi, bacteria and yeasts. The concentration of microorganisms in unscarified seeds ranged from 3.0×103 to 7.5×103 CFU/g. Predominant were bacterial isolates of the generaAeromonas sp.,Bacillus, andPseudomonas; from filamentous fungi were identifiedAlternaria, Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium sp.,Fusarium sp.,Mucor sp.,Penicillium commune, Trichothecium sp.; from yeastsRhodotorula sp. andSaccharomyces cerevisiae. Seed scarification significantly reduced the microbial contamination. Of the original fungal isolates, only two were identified on scarified seeds, viz. Cladosporium sp. andSaccharomyces cerevisiae; although a relatively high incidence of a unidentifiable ofPenicillium sp. was found, the bacterial spectrum was not altered. Treatment of scarified seeds with Vitavax 200 WP and Pomarsol Forte 80 WP (3 mg/g seeds) augmented germination by 10–19% compared to treated unscarified seeds, and by 16–31% compared to untreated unscarified seeds.  相似文献

One-hundred and eleven species and three species varieties belonging to 39 genera were collected from 50 dust samples on the five media used at 28°C. Using the hair-baiting technique with horse hair, 10 species ofChrysosporium were isolated:C. asperatum, C. state ofArthroderma tuberculatum, C. indicum, C. inops, C. keratinophilum, C. merdarium, C. pannorum, C. queenslandicum, C. tropicum andC. xerophilum. True dermatophytes were isolated:Trichophyton verrucosum andTrichophyton sp. Also, numerous fungi tolerating high levels of cycloheximide were encountered, such as members ofAcremonium, Aspergillus andPenicillium. On plates of glucose or cellulose Czapek-Dox agar (free from sucrose) the most frequent fungi were:Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus flavus, A. flavus var.columnaris, A. fumigatus, A. niger, A. ochraceus, A. sydowii, A. terreus, Chaetomium globosum, Cladosporium herbarum, Emericella nidulans, Fusarium oxysporum, Mucor hiemalis, Penicillium chrysogenum, P. oxalicum, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis andUlocladium atrum. On plates of 50% sucrose or 10 and 20% NaCl-Czapek's agar, some interesting species were frequently encountered:Eurotium amstelodami, E. chevalieri, E. halophilicum, E. montevidensis, E. repens, E. rubrum andScopulariopsis halophilica. The isolated, fungi have been tested for osmophilicity and halophilicity, they showed different rates of growth on sucrose and sodium chloride-Czapek's medium of various osmotic potential.  相似文献

Studies on the vertical distribution of marine fungi in aRhizophora apiculata mangrove stand in Morib, Selangor were carried out in June 1993 and June to November 1997. Prop roots, subterranean roots and overhanging branches ofR. apiculata were collected from three intertidal levels namely upper (high water mark), middle and lower. Fifty-three species were recorded including 39 ascomycetes, 13 deuteromycetes and one basidiomycete. The most common fungi wereHalocyphina villosa (frequency occurrence 21%),Kallichroma tethys (20%),Lulworthia grandispora (18%),Leptosphaeria australiensis (16%),Julella avicenniae (15%) andMassarina ramunculicola (13%). The fungi were found to be vertically zoned, some were limited to the upper level such asPyrenographa xylographoides, Julella avicenniae andAigialus grandis or lower level such asTrichocladium achrasporum andT. alopallonellum, while only five species showed a broader distribution, being present at all levels:Leptosphaeria australiensis, Halocyphina villosa, Cryptovalsa sp.,Lulworthia grandispora andLulworthia sp. The greatest diversity of marine fungi were collected from the middle level with a Shannon Diversity Index of 5.9 while the Jaccard Similarity Index of 2.25 indicated that the upper and middle levels were the most similar in terms of species composition. Fungi with certain characteristics were also limited to particular levels, for example, carbonaceous and superficial ascomata were confined above mean tide while membranous walls and immersed ascomata were common below mean tide level.  相似文献

Summary Interactions of 123 isolates of fungi, 17 of bacteria and 22 of actinomycetes, respectively, withSclerotium cepivorum were studied in agar culture. They were grouped into 4 different types of reactions. Amongst themTrichoderma viride, Fusarium graminearum, Coniothyrium minitans andGliocladium roseum inhibited the growth ofS. cepivorum and later grew over its colony.T. viride showed a characteristic coiling around the hyphae ofS. cepivorum. T. viride andF. graminearum prevented the development of sclerotia.C. minitans was found to parasitize the sclerotia ofS. cepivorum and produced its pycnidia within them.Aleurisma carnis, Cladosporium elatum, Penicillium expansum, P. nigricans, P. notatum, P. piscarium, P. puberulum, P. rolfsii, P. urticae, P. variabile, Tilachlidium humicola andHelminthosporium sp. inhibited the growth ofS. cepivorum at a distance. Eleven isolates of bacteria and 3 ofStreptomyces sp. showed pronounced antagonistic properties againstS. cepivorum.Experiments were carried out to study the effects on white rot development in soil of organisms selected from agar plate tests. None of the antagonistic micro organisms had any deleterious effects on onion growth. Of the organisms testedP. nigricans gave the best results in controlling white rot infection. This work was carried out at the Department of Botany, The University, Birmingham, England. I wish to thank Prof.C. J. Hickman for his invaluable advice and encouragement.  相似文献

Summary Fungi borne on or in ryegrass (Lolium spp.) seeds or invading ryegrass seedlings grown on field soils were isolated and identified. Selected isolates were tested to determine their pathogenicity to ryegrass seedlings. Seed-borne fungi were generally weakly virulent or non-pathogenic to ryegrass seedlings. Pathogenic seed-borne fungi includedChaetomium globosum Kunze: Fr.,Curvularia trifolii (Kauffm.) Boedijn, and species ofPenicillium Link andAspergillus Mich. ex Link. Species of fungi isolated from seedlings grown on field soils de pended on soil and temperature. Soil-borne fungi pathogenic to seedlings includedFusarium avenaceum (Fr.) Sacc.,F. culmorum (W. G. Smith) Sacc.,F. equiseti (Corda) Sacc.,F. oxysporum Schlecht.: Fr.,F. solani (Mart.) Sacc.,Pythium afertile Kanouse and Humphrey,P. debaryanum auct. non Hesse,P. irregulare Buisman,P. ultimum Trow, a sphaerosporangiatePythium sp.,Chaetomium globosum, Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk,Trichoderma koningii Oudem., and aPhomopsis sp. Individual isolates of fungi differed in virulence to ryegrass seedlings, and ryegrass cultivars differed in susceptibility to seedling pathogens.  相似文献

Berberine and (±)-bicuculline were isolated from roots and leaves, respectively, ofCorydalis chaerophylla. Both were effectivein vitro against spore germination of some plant pathogenic fungi (Alternaria brassicicola, A. brassicae, A. cheiranthi, A. melongenae, A. solani, Colletotrichum musae, C. falcatum, Curvularia penniseti, C. lunata, C. maculans, C. pallescens, Curvularia sp.,Erysiphe pisi, E. cichoracearum, Erysiphe sp.,Fusarium udum, Helminthosporium spiciferum, H. penniseti, H. frumentacei, Heterosporium sp.,Oidium erysiphoides andUstilago cynodontis). Berberine and (±)-bicuculline significantly inhibited spore germination of all the fungi at concentrations of 100–1000 ppm. Berberine was effective against all the fungi at all concentrations; most of the fungi did not germinate at 1000 ppm.H. penniseti conidia did not germinate at any cencentration of (±)-bicuculline.U. cynodontis was the least sensitive fungus at lower concentrations but 800 ppm dose was highly effective.  相似文献

Inhibition activity of the alkaloid (−)-corypalmine on spore germination of plant pathogenic and saprophytic fungi (Alternaria solani, A brassicicola, A. brassicae, A. melongenae, Curvularia pallescens, C. lunata, C. maculans, Curvularia sp.,Colletotrichum sp.,Helminthosporium speciferum, H. frumentacei, H. pennisetti, Heterosporium sp.,Penicillum sp.,Ustilago cynodontis) was determined. Spore germination of all the tested fungi was inhibited,Heterosporium sp. andUstilago cynodontis being the most sensitive (complete inhibition of spore germination was observed at the very low concentration of 200 ppm).Curvularia palliscens, C. maculans andCurvularia sp. were less sensitive; complete inhibition of spore germination occurred at 400 ppm.  相似文献

Dominant phylloplane fungi of guava (Psidium guajava L.) were screened for their antagonistic activities against the two pathogens,Colletotrichum gloeosporioides andPestalotia psidii, bothin vitro andin vivo. Culture filtrates ofAspergillus niger, Fusarium oxysporum andPenicillium citrinum caused more than 50% growth inhibition ofC. gloeosporioides. Filtrates ofCephalosporium roseo-griseum andF. oxysporum were most effective in reducing the growth ofP. psidii. Volatiles produced from the cultures ofA. niger, F. oxysporum, P. citrinum andP. oxalicum inhibited the growth ofC. gloeosporioides, whereas volatiles fromC. roseo-griseum, F. oxysporum andTrichoderma harzianum inhibited the growth ofP. psidii. The inhibitory effect of volatiles decreased with increase in incubation time. In general, the maximum effect of volatiles was noticed after 48 h incubation. Different grades of colony interactions in dual cultures were recognised between the two pathogens and the phylloplane fungi examined. Maximum inhibition ofC. gloeosporioides was caused byAureobasidium pullulans, Cladosporium cladosporioides, epicoccum purpurascens, F. oxysporum andMyrothecium roridum, whereasAspergillus terreus, C. roseo-griseum andP. oxalicum significantly reduced the growth ofP. psidii. Application of a spore suspension of each test fungus inhibited lesion development of guava leaves caused by the test pathogensin vitro. Inhibition was more pronounced when the spore concentration was increased.A. pullulans, C. cladosporioides, E. purpurascens, F. oxysporum, andT. harzianum were found to be strongly antagonistic toC. gloeosporioides. A. niger, A. terreus, C. roseo-grisem andT. harzianum were strongly antagonistic toP. psidii.  相似文献

We have cloned and sequenced the gene encoding the translation elongation factor eEF1A from two filamentous fungi,Podospora curvicollaandSordaria macrospora. These fungi are close relatives ofPodospora anserinaand also show senescence syndromes. Comparison of the sequences of the deduced proteins with that ofP. anserinareveals that the three proteins differ in several positions. Replacement of theP. anserinagene by either of the two exogenous genes does not entail any modification inP. anserinaphysiology; the longevity of the fungus is not affected. No alteration ofin vivotranslational accuracy was detected; however, the exogenous proteins nonetheless promoted a modification of the resistance to the aminoglycoside antibiotic paromomycin. These data suggest that optimization of life span between these closely related fungi has likely not been performed during evolution through modifications of eEF1A activity, despite the fact that mutations in this factor can drastically affect longevity.  相似文献

Summary The effect of different sulphur and phosphorus compounds on the growth and reproduction of three fungi causing storage rot, viz.,Fusarium solani, Botryodiplodia ananassae andMacrophomina phaseoli has been studied. Sixteen different sources of sulphur were used and out of them magnesium sulphate was found to be most favourable for the growth and reproduction of all the three fungi. Sodium sulphite and sodium bisulphite were toxic. Potassium metabisulphite prevented growth ofF. solani and M. phaseoli while it supported moderate growth ofB. ananassae. Only magnesium sulphate could induce the sporulation ofB. ananassae while sporulation and sclerotial development ofF. solani andM. phaseoli respectively varied with the type of sulphur sources used. Optimum concentration of magnesium sulphate was also determined and it was found that the growth and sporulation ofF. solani andB. ananassae were best at 0.375 g/l and 0.75 g/l.M. phaseoli tolerated higher doses of this substance as the best growth and excellent sclerotial development were recorded at 3.0 g/l (the maximum concentration used). Phosphorus was found to be essential for the present fungi as none of them could grow in complete absence of this substance. Onthophosphates and nucleic acid, were found to be favourable sources for growth and reproduction of the 3 organisms.  相似文献

Six ophiostomatoid fungi, i.e.,Ceratocystiopsis minuta, Ceratocystis laricicola, Ophiostoma brunneo-ciliatum, O. laricis, O. piceae andOphiostoma sp., were isolated from the galleries ofIps cembrae on Japanese Iarch (Larix kaempferi) logs in central Honshu, Japan. Japanese larch trees approximately 30 yr old were inoculated with all six fungi.Ceratocystis laricicola produced the largest lesions on the inner bark around the inoculation point and the largest dry zone in the sapwood. Furthermore,C. laricicola was the only fungus associated withI. cembrae that had the ability to kill Japanese larch, death occurring in 30-yr-old trees within 3.5 mo after inoculation.  相似文献

Fifty fungal types were isolated from the indoor atmosphere of saw mills by exposing Petri plates containing Czapek-dox Agar, Potato-dextrose Agar and Sabouraud Agar media for 5 min. The fungal flora of the outdoor surroundings was also studied for comparison. Species ofAspergilli dominated in the saw mills, being represented by 16 species including one ascosporic form. Other fungi were species ofCladosporium, Alternaria, Curvularia, Penicillium, Fusarium, etc. Variations in the fungal population in different months were also observed. Fungal spores recovered using the Rotorod Sampler wereAlternaria, Curvalaria lunata, Curvularia tetramera, Cladosporium, Dreschslera sp.,Epicoccum sp.,Pithomyes sp.,Nigrospora, Stemphylium sp. andTorula sp. Mycelial fragments and unidentifiable spores were also seen in abundance. Varying allergic responses of patients were also recorded by testing intradermally, the antigens of nineAspergilli, vizAspergillus flavus, A. fumigatus, A. japonicus, A. melleus, A. nidulans, A. niger, A. niveus, A. tammarii and A. terreus.  相似文献

A total of 20 fungal species belonging to 10 genera were found to be associated with all stages ofCulex pipiens. Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus flavus, A. fumigatus, A. niger andPenicillium chrysogenum were the dominant fungi.Beauveria alba andPhoma herbarum. A well known facultative pathogen have been recorded. Most of fungal isolates (63.22%) showed a moderate growth on a synthetic medium containing partially purified chitin. The water extract of bothArtmesia cina andCleome droserifolia showed an inhibitive effect on the protein content and growth of some selected isolates. One ml dose of crude extract ofA. fumigatus killed 90% of the larvae after 192 hr incubation but 36% of the test larvae were killed by the same dose extracted fromP. chrysogenum at the same period of incubation.  相似文献

Summary Evans' tube and cellophane agar-disc techniques were used to evaluate the colonization capacity of the soil microbes and fungistasis, respectively. Spore germination ofAlternaria tenuis, Curvularia geniculata, Helminthosporium rostratum andPestalotia sp. was studied on a natural soil. Aspergillus fumigatus was the pioneer colonizer, followed in the order of decreasing colonizing capacity by,A. flavus, A. niger, A. terreus andPenicillium nigricans. Sensitivity of test spores to soil fungistasis declined in the order,C. geniculata → Pestalotia sp. →A. tenuis → H. rostratum. The fungistatic level of the soil samples decreased gradually from side arms 1 to 7 of the Evans tube, inoculated with unsterilized soil from one end. Studies conducted with an inoculum of four soil fungi (A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. niger, andP. nigricans) as well as those involving fumigation of Evans tube by CS2 also proved the greater colonizing capacity ofA. fumigatus. The level of fungistasis followed closely the colonization pattern of this fungus. When added individually to the soil, all fungi were able to inhibit spore germination of test fungi to some degree or other.  相似文献

In wheat, corn and sorghum grains twenty-six genera and seventy-seven species including sixteen ofAspergillus and twenty-one ofPenicillium were identified. In grain samples adjusted to various moisture levels (up to 18.8 % on a dry-weight basis) and stored for 4 months at 8, 20 and 30 C seed-borne fungi were monthly identified and counted, and the germinability of the grains was tested. In the control samples (moisture content 7.1–8.2 %) temperature had no effect on the fungal counts and on the precentage germination. With the rise of temperature and moisture content the fungal counts markedly increased and the germinability declined. The list of fungi dominant in one or more of the experiments, included eight species ofAspergillus, six ofPenicillium, two ofFusarium and one each ofAlternaria andCurvularia. The order of dominance of these fungi varied according to the type of grain, the length of storage and the treatment.A. niger was the dominant organism in the control samples of the three grains. It could grow successfully at high moisture contents but above 15 %, it was usually overgrown by other fungi. In wheatP. citrinum andA. sydowii, in cornP. citrinum andA. terreus, and in sorghumA. terreus andA. niger were the dominant fungi at moisture contents above 15 % after four months storage at 30 C. When stored at 8 CPenicillium species tended to predominate over other fungi in grains with high moisture contents. In surface-sterilized grains adjusted to 15 % moisture content, inoculated with six dominant fungi separately and incubated at 30 C,A. niger, P. citrinum andP. variabile caused severe deterioration in the three grains;A. ochraceus in wheat only andF. moniliforme in wheat and corn;C. spicifer was slightly injurious to the three grains.  相似文献

The agamid lizardDraco volans from Palawan, Republic of the Philippines, was found to be parasitised by threePlasmodium species:P. draconis n. sp.,P. volans n. sp. andP. vastator, Laird 1960. BothP. draconis andP. volans, but notP. vastator, were also present inD. volans from Sarawak. The species are readily distinguished by schizont size, merozoite number, and gametocyte size and shape.P. volans has schizonts approximately one-half the size of those ofP. draconis and produces 4–6 merozoites in comparison to 4–16 in the larger species. Gametocytes of both new species are predominantly oval in the Palawan sample and elongate in that from Sarawak.P. draconis gametocytes are approximately twice the size ofP. volans gametocytes, but on average no more than one-half the size of gametocytes ofP. vastator.  相似文献

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi on Japanese semi-natural grasslands were investigated at three adjacent sites with different vegetation. The predominant grasses at the three sites were 1)Pleioblastus chino, 2)Miscanthus sinensis andArundinella hirta (M. sinensis/A. hirta), and 3)Zoysia japonica, respectively. The degree of colonization was higher inM. sinensis/A. hirta than inP. chino andZ. japonica. AM fungi were recovered by spore extraction and by pot cultures started from soil inoculum or from transplanting of field plants. Total spore number obtained by the spore extraction method was highest in the rhizosphere ofM. sinensis/A. hirta and lowest in that ofP. chino. AGlomus sp. resemblingG. geosporum predominated in association withM. sinensis/A. hirta andP. chino. FromZ. japonica, three species,Acaulospora gerdemannii, Glomus leptotichum, and a species resemblingG. clarum, were isolated by pot culture from soil and two species,A. longula andScutellospora cerradensis, by pot culture from transplanting ofZ. japonica. FromM. sinensis/A. hirta, one species,A. longula, was found by pot culture from soil. FromP. chino, no AM fungus was detected by either method. Single-spore culture confirmed thatG. leptotichum andA. gerdemannii are conspecific.  相似文献
