The metal contents of eleven black tea samples, four cultivated in Iran and seven imported, and their tea infusions were determined. Twelve elements consisting toxic metals (Al, As, Pb, Cr, Cd, and Ni) and essential mineral elements (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Ca, and Mg) were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Al, Ca, Mg, and Mn ranged in black tea leaves at mg g−1 levels, while Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn were at μg g−1 levels. Analysis of variance showed no statistically significant differences among most elements determined in cultivated and imported black teas in Iran except for Ni and Cu. The extraction efficiency of each element into tea infusions was evaluated. The solubility of measured metals in infusion extracts varied widely and ranged from 0 to 59.3%. Among the studied elements, Cr, Pb, and Cd showed the lowest rates of solubility and Ni had the highest rates of solubility. The amount of toxic metals and essential mineral elements that one may take up through consumption of black tea infusion was estimated. The amount of realizing each element into tea infusions and acceptable daily intake, for safety consumption of black tea, was compared.  相似文献

Summary The sensitivity of the mineralization of nitrogen by a range of soils contaminated with heavy metals (up to 340 μg Cd g−1, 7500 μg Pb g−1 and 34000 μg Zn g−1) to the addition of heavy metals in solution were studied using pot incubations (ammonification) and a soil perfusion technique (nitrification). The ammonification of peptone showed little correlation between treatments with Cd, Zn (1000 and 5000 μg g−1) and Pb (10000 and 20000 μg g−1) and origin of the soil. Nitrification was considerably more sensitive to heavy metals than ammonification. All the soils had active, often large, populations of ammonifying and nitrifying organisms which showed substantial similarities between the soils. The rate of nitrifying activity (NO3−N production) was logrithmic in most cases. The presence of tolerant populations of nitrifying organisms in the contaminated soils was demonstrated. Tolerance was also eventually acquired after a longer lag phase, by the non-contaminated soil populations although the rate of activity was often reduced. Metals added in solution were adsorbed by the soil within 4 hours. Differences in toxicity between metal salts (chlorides, sulphates and acetate) were attributed to the amount left in solution. However, in many instances, acetate was found to stimulate all the stages in the mineralisation of nitrogen.  相似文献

Iron nutrition affects cadmium accumulation and toxicity in rice plants   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12
The effect of iron (Fe) nutrition on cadmium (Cd) toxicity and accumulation in rice plants was studied using a hydroponic system. The inhibitory effect of Cd on plant growth and chlorophyll content (SPAD value) was dependent on Fe level and the genotype. Malondialdehyde (MDA) content in leaves and roots was not much affected by an increased Cd stress at 0.171 mg l−1 Fe, but it showed a rapid increase when the plants were exposed to moderate (1.89 mg l−1) and high (16.8 mg l−1) Fe levels. High Fe nutrition caused a marked reduction in Cd content in both leaves and roots. Fe content in plants was lower at high Cd (5.0 μM) stress than at low Cd (<1.0 μM) stress. Cd stress increased both superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities at low and moderate Fe levels. However, with high Fe level, it increased the POD activity, but reduced the SOD activity. Our results substantiate the hypothesis that cell membrane-bound iron transporter (carrier) involved in high-affinity iron transport systems can also transport Cd, and both these ions may compete for this common carrier. The study further showed that there were significant correlations between MDA and Fe contents in leaves and roots of rice plants. It is suggested that the occurrence of oxidative stress in plants exposed to Cd stress is mediated by Fe nutrition. The present results also show that Cd stress affects the uptake of Cu and Zn.  相似文献

The objective of this study in 2009 was to examine whether levels of cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr) were higher in the leaves than in the stems of a submerged aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum in Anzali wetland. Cadmium, Pb and Cr concentrations were highest in the leaves. The mean concentrations of Cd and Cr in the leaves at all the sampling sites ranged between 0.94–1.26 μg g?1 and 1.03–2.71 μg g?1, respectively. Lead also had its highest concentrations in the leaves. The mean concentration of Pb in the leaves at all sampling sites ranged between 7.49–11.88 μg g?1. Copper and Zn concentrations were highest in the stems. The mean concentrations of Cu and Zn in the stems at all sampling sites ranged between 10.79–17.91 μg g?1 and 19.89–40.01 μg g?1, respectively. Cadmium and Pb concentrations were higher in the leaves than in the stems, while Zn concentration was higher in the stems than in the leaves. Accumulation of Cu and Cr in the organs of C. demersum was in descending order of leaf ~ stem, since there was no significant difference between their mean concentrations in the leaves and stems.  相似文献

The results of analyses conducted to determine contents of Cd(II) and Pb(II) in mushrooms of mycorrhizal fungi and selected parts of birches growing in an industrial desert surrounding a nonferrous works are presented in this study. The fruiting bodies of fungi accumulated several times higher contents (up to 80 μg g−1 dry weight) of Cd(II) compared to those found in the soil (20 μg g−1 dry weight). In contrast, the mushroom contents of Pb(II) were only slightly increased (up to 895 μg g−1 dry weight) than those present in the soil (500 μg g−1 dry weight). However, fivefold higher concentrations of the metals were found in the mycorrhizal roots. Comparing the distribution of the metals analysed, the protective role of the ectomycorrhizae in relation to the host tree was indicated. Mycorrhizal fungi persistently fixed heavy metals, forming an efficient biological barrier that reduced movement of the metals in birch tissues.  相似文献

Corchorus olitorius plants treated by 5 μg cm−3 of Cd, Pb, Al or Cu in hydroponic culture accumulated in leaves 190, 150, 350 and 325 μg g−1(d.m.) of these metals, respectively, after 6 d of exposure. Exposure of Corchorus plants to tested metals resulted in a sharp rise in content of amino acids in leaf tissues, however the magnitude of accumulation was different from one metal to another. Presence of sulphur in the growth medium significantly increased uptake of Cd and Pb and cysteine (cyst) was more effective than K2SO4. Similarly, addition of salicylic acid (SA) in the growth medium significantly enhanced the ability of Corchorus plants to accumulate all these metals. Growth of Corchorus plants was significantly reduced by treatment with any of the four metals except Cu and added cyst, K2SO4 or SA alleviated the growth retarding effect of metals. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

An ‘alternating solution’ culture method was used to study the effects of chloride ions and humic acid (HA) on the uptake of cadmium by barley plants. The plants were transferred periodically between a nutrient solution and a test solution containing one of four levels of HA (0, 190, 569 or 1710 μg cm−3) and one of five levels of Cd (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5 or 5.0 μg cm−3) in either a 0.006M NaNO3 or 0.006M NaCl medium. Harvest and analysis of shoots and roots was after nineteen days. The distribution of Cd in the test solutions between Cd2+, CdCl+ and HA-Cd was determined in a separate experiment by dialysis equilibrium. In the nitrate test solutions Cd uptake was clearly controlled by Cd2+ concentration and was therefore reduced by HA complex formation. In the absence of HA, chloride suppressed Cd uptake indicating that Cd2+ was the preferred species. However complex formation with Cl enhanced uptake when HA was present because of an increase in the concentration of inorganic Cd species relative to the nitrate system. The ratio root-Cd/shoot-Cd remained at about 10 across a wide range of shoot-Cd concentrations, from about 3 μg g−1 (sub-toxic) up to 85 μg g−1 (80% yield reduction). The ability of the barley plants to accumulate ‘non-toxic’ Cd in their roots was thus very limited. Humic acid also had no effect on Cd translocation within the plant and the root/shoot weight ratio did not vary with any treatment. At shoot-Cd concentrations in excess of 50 μg g−1, K, Ca, Cu and Zn uptake was reduced, probably the result of root damage rather than a specific ion antagonism. The highest concentration of HA also lowered Fe and Zn uptake and there was a toxic effect with increasing HA concentration at Cd=0. However the lowest HA level, comparable with concentrations found in mineral soil solutions, only reduced yield (in the absence of Cd) by <5% while lowering Cd uptake across the range of Cd concentrations by 66%–25%.  相似文献

It has been proposed that organic acid and nonprotein thiol are involved in the hyperaccumulation of metals. In this study, Cd accumulation, organic acid, and nonprotein thiol production and their relationships in the leaves of Cd-hyperaccumulator Rorippa globosa were examined and compared with a closely related species, Rorippa islandica. The results showed that there was no reduction in biomass of R. globosa when treated with 25 μg Cd g−1 (T2), despite Cd accumulation in the leaves was up to 158.2 μg g−1 DW. On the other hand, the growth of Cd-treated R. islandica was obviously inhibited as it accumulated more than 100 μg g−1 DW in the leaves. Therefore, R. islandica behaved as a Cd-accumulating plant. The Cd treatments could significantly induce the synthesis of acetic acid in both species, suggesting that acetic acid, as the most abundant organic acid, might be related to the Cd accumulation. Significant positive correlations between Cd concentrations and both tartaric and malic acid concentrations in the leaves of R. globosa were observed. There was a significant positive correlation between Cd concentrations and acetic acid concentrations in the leaves of R. islandica. This trend of tartaric and malic acids in the leaves of R. globosa and acetic acid in the leaves of R. islandica might be related to Cd accumulation. In addition, a quadratic relationship was obviously observed for NP-SH contents and total Cd concentrations in the leaves of R. globosa, indicating that NP-SH was significantly related to Cd accumulation and tolerance.  相似文献

Toxic effects of lead (>0.2 mM Pb) were measured in pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan Mill) cv. UPAS grown in sand culture as reduction in growth, yield, and quality of seeds. Leaves containing >38 μg g−1 Pb showed oxidative damage as decrease in chlorophyll content and induction of antioxidants such as carotenoids, proline, and non-protein thiol contents with enhanced activities of SOD and peroxidase. At excess (>0.2 mM) Pb, accumulation of >1,000 μg Pb g−1 root tissue was associated with increase in non-protein thiol content. It is concluded that inhibition in root-to-shoot translocation of Pb and induction in the level of proline, chloroplast pigments, and non-protein thiols and activities of antioxidant enzymes SOD and peroxidase at <0.2 mM Pb could have protected the pigeon pea plants from the deleterious effects of Pb. However, excess Pb at >0.2 mM showed a decline in yield, boldness, and quality of seeds despite the expression of an additional band each of Cu–Zn SOD and peroxidase isoform. The threshold of toxicity and toxicity values in pigeon pea leaves of plants exhibiting 10 and 33% yield depression at 27 days after metal supply were 27 and 56 μg Pb g−1, respectively.  相似文献

The coastal marine sediments near Santa Rosalía on the eastern coast of the Baja California Peninsula (Mexico) are heavily polluted by metals due to copper mining and smelting over the past century (up to 1984). The present study compares the accumulation of metals in the brown seaweed Padina durvillaei from the central segment of the coast of Santa Rosalía (polluted by Co, Cu, Mn and Zn) and from two segments north and south of the known “hot spot”. The seaweed samples were collected in May and August 2004 and June 2005 at 13 stations located along the Santa Rosalía mining region. Heavy metal concentrations were measured by instrumental neutron activation analysis (Co and Fe) directly in dried homogenized subsamples or by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (Cd, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) after complete strong acid digestion of sub-samples. The means and standard deviations of the concentrations in dry tissues of Padina durvillaei specimens for all the studied metals and stations lie in the following sequence: Cd (3.6 ± 1.6 mg kg−1) < Co (6.5 ± 6.1 mg kg−1) < Pb (7.8 ± 6.2) < Ni (9.96 ± 5.28 mg kg−1) < Cu (53 ± 38 mg kg−1) < Zn (63 ± 43 mg kg−1) < Mn (295 ± 269 mg kg−1) < Fe (2243 ± 2325 mg kg−1). This increase of the average concentrations was statistically significant. Principal Component Analysis showed that Factor 1 (36.46%) displays high positive loadings for Co, Cu, Mn and Zn, reflecting the influence of local anthropogenic pollution on the seaweed composition, while Factor 2 (26.91%) is important for Co, Fe and Ni and probably corresponds to the adsorption or accumulation of terrigenous elements of the regional origin, while Factor 3, with a high positive loading for Pb and a high negative loading for Cd, is probably controlled by local and regional anthropogenic input of Pb and episodic supply of Cd by local upwellings. The results of ANOVA for each element do not show any significant differences between the average concentrations for Cd, Fe, Ni and Pb in the seaweed of the three segments, or between the central and southern segments for Cu, Mn and Zn. Cobalt contents in the seaweed from the northern and central segments are, however, significantly different from the southern segment. This indicates that element concentrations in Padina durvillaei generally do not follow the drastic increases and gradients of Cu, Co, Mn and Zn contents detected in surface sediments. The apparent contradiction could be explained by a low geochemical mobility of these metals in the polluted sediments, composed mainly of stable residues of smelter wastes, with very low content of organic matter usually driving diagenetic mobilization of some metals into interstitial waters and then to the overlying water.  相似文献

Studies with sterile root materials showed that the optimum pH values of phosphatase activity in three varieties of each of corn (Zea mays L.) and soybean (Glycine max. L.) were 4 and 5, respectively. The activity on either side of the optimum pH fell sharply, and there was no activity at pH 9. Thus, these roots contain acid but no alkaline phosphatase activity. Acid phosphatase activity was not uniformly distributed in roots and root hairs. Studies with 20 metals showed that their effectiveness in inhibiting acid phosphatase activity of roots varied with the type of plant used. When the metals were compared at 250 μM (1.25 μmole. 5 mg−1 of homogenized roots), the inhibition of acid phosphatase of corn and soybean roots showed that Ag(I), Fe(III), Se(IV), V(IV), As(V) and Mo(VI) were the most effective inhibitors of this enzyme in corn roots, with percentage inhibition ≥30%. In addition to these metals, Sn(II), Hg(II), and W(VI) inhibited acid phosphatase in soybean roots by >30%. Other metals and one non-metallic element that inhibited acid phosphatase activity in corn and soybean roots were: Cu(I), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), Fe(II), Pb(II), Ba(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), B(III), As(III), Cr(III), and Al(III); their degrees of effectiveness varied with type of roots used. Generally, the inhibitory effect of the metals was much less when their concentration was decreased by 10-fold. In addition to the effect of these elements, phosphate ion inhibited acid phosphatase activity of corn and soybean roots. Related anions such as NO 2 , NO 3 , Cl, and SO 4 2− were not inhibitory.  相似文献

Potentially poplars and willows may be used for the in situ decontamination of soils polluted with Cd, such as pasturelands fertilised with Cd-rich superphosphate fertiliser. Poplar (Kawa and Argyle) and willow (Tangoio) clones were grown in soils containing a range (0.6–60.6 μg g−1 dry soil) of Cd concentrations. The willow clone accumulated significantly more Cd (9–167 μg g−1 dry matter) than the two poplar clones (6–75 μg g−1), which themselves were not significantly different. Poplar trees (Beaupré) sampled in situ from a contaminated site near the town of Auby, Northern France, were also found to accumulate significant quantities (up to 209 μg g−1) of Cd. The addition of chelating agents (0.5 and 2 g kg−1 EDTA, 0.5 g kg−1 DTPA and 0.5 g kg−1NTA) to poplar (Kawa) clones caused a temporary increase in uptake of Cd. However, two of the chelating agents (2 g kg−1 EDTA and 0.5 g kg−1 NTA) also resulted in a significant reduction in growth, as well as abscission of leaves. If the results obtained in these pot experiments can be realised in the field, then a single crop of willows could remove over 100 years worth of fertiliser-induced Cd contamination from pasturelands. Background

Cadmium (Cd) is well known as one of the most toxic metals affecting the environment and can severely restrict plant growth and development. In this study, Cd toxicities were studied in strawberry cv. Camarosa using pot experiment. Chlorophyll and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activities and mineral nutrient concentrations were investigated in both roots and leaves of strawberry plant after exposure Cd.

Results

Cd content in both roots and leaves was increased with the application of increasing concentrations of Cd. We found higher Cd concentration in roots rather than in leaves. Chlorophyll a and b was decreased in leaves but MDA significantly increased under increased Cd concentration treatments in both roots and leaves. SOD and CAT activities was also increased with the increase Cd concentrations. K, Mn and Mg concentrations were found higher in leaves than roots under Cd stress. In general, increased Cd treatments increased K, Mg, Fe, Ca, Cu and Zn concentration in both roots and leaves. Excessive Cd treatments reduced chlorophyll contents, increased antioxidant enzyme activities and changes in plant nutrition concentrations in both roots and leaves.

Conclusion

The results presented in this work suggested that Cd treatments have negative effect on chlorophyll content and nearly decreased 30% of plant growth in strawberry. Strawberry roots accumulated higher Cd than leaves. We found that MDA and antioxidant enzyme (CAT, SOD and APX) contents may have considered a good indicator in determining Cd tolerance in strawberry plant.

Cu 2408g hm~(-2)a~(-1),Pb 2027g hm~(-2)a~(-1),Cd 658.5g hm~(-2)a~(-1),As 250g hm~(-2)a~(-1),油菜-玉米模式下Zn和Hg的提取量较高,分别为Zn 4987g hm~(-2)a~(-1)和Hg 7.92g hm~(-2)a~(-1);对于多种重金属复合污染的土壤来说,油菜-油葵的种植模式要优于油菜-玉米的种植模式。

Response of 13 alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) genotypes to varied Zn supply (+Zn: 2 mg kg−1 soil, −Zn: no added Zn) was studied in a pot experiment under controlled environmental conditions. Plants were grown for four weeks in a Zn-deficient siliceous sandy soil. Plants grown at no added Zn showed typical Zn deficiency symptoms i.e. interveinal chlorosis of leaves, yellowish-white necrotic lesions on leaf blades, necrosis of leaf margins, smaller leaves and a marked reduction in growth. There was solute leakage from the leaves of Zn-deficient plants, while no solute leakage from Zn-sufficient plants. The ratios of P:Zn, Fe:Zn, Cu:Zn and Mn:Zn in Zn-deficient plants were extremely high compared with Zn-sufficient plants indicating disturbance of P:Zn, Fe:Zn, Cu:Zn and Mn:Zn balance within plant system by Zn deficiency. Genotypes differed markedly in Zn efficiency based on shoot dry matter production. Alfalfa genotypes also differed markedly in P:Zn ratio, Cu:Zn ratio and Fe:Zn ratio under —Zn treatment. The shoot dry weight, shoot:root ratio, chlorophyll content of fresh leaf tissue, solute leakage from the leaves, Zn uptake and distribution of Zn in shoots and roots were the most sensitive parameters of Zn efficiency. Zn-efficient genotypes had less solute leakage but higher shoot:root ratio and higher Zn uptake compared with Zn-inefficient genotypes. Under —Zn treatment, Zn-inefficient genotypes had less Zn partitioning to shoots (33–37%) and more Zn retained in roots (63–67%), while Zn-efficient genotypes had about equal proportions of Zn in roots (50%) and shoots (50%). This study was conducted to determine effects of nitrogen supply (75 and 150 kg(N) ha−1) and CO2 enrichment on partitioning of macro and micro nutrients in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. HD-2285). Plants were grown from seedling emergence to maturity inside open top chambers under ambient CO2 (CA, 350 ± 50 μmol mol−1) and elevated CO2 (CE, 600 ± 50 μmol mol−1). Leaves, stems and roots of the same physiological age were analyzed for carbon, nitrogen, calcium, copper, iron, zinc and manganese content at 40, 60 and 90 d after germination. C, Cu, Mn and Zn content was higher in the stem, leaves and roots on dry mass basis under CE than CA. However, N and Fe contents decreased in CE grown plants. Ca content was unaffected due to CE and variable N supplies. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The influence of various cadmium concentrations on organic acid levels in leaves of the Cd hyperaccumulator, Solanum nigrum L. and a closely related species, Solanum melongena L., were investigated. In particular, the relationship of organic acids with Cd accumulation in the two plants was investigated. The results showed that Cd accumulation in the shoots of S. nigrum was significantly higher than that of S. melongena. The accumulation of Cd in the leaves of S. nigrum ranged from 2.0 to 167.8 μg g−1 dry weight (DW), but only from 1.2 to 64.0 μg g−1 DW in S. melongena. Solanum melongena was considerably less tolerant to Cd than S. nigrum. Approximately 20% of the total Cd in S. nigrum leaves was water-soluble, suggesting that some accumulated Cd was associated with water-soluble compounds such as organic acids. Malic acid in the leaves of S. nigrum was the most abundant organic acid [up to 115.6–145.7 μmol g−1 fresh weight (FW)], but this acid was not significantly affected by the Cd concentration in soil. However, the level of malic acid in S. melongena plants was much lower, only 16.3–75.4 μmol g−1 FW. The significant positive correlations between total Cd and water-soluble Cd concentrations and both acetic and citric acid concentrations in the leaves of S. nigrum were observed. In contrast, there was no correlation between concentrations of the two acids and Cd concentrations in the leaves of S. melongena. These results indicated that acetic and citric acids in the leaves of S. nigrum might be related to its Cd hyperaccumulation.  相似文献

Joint effects of Cd and other heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Zn and As) on the growth and development of rice plants and the uptake of these heavy metals by rice were studied using the pot-culture method combined with chemical and statistical analyses. The results showed that the growth and development of rice plants were strongly influenced by the double-element combined pollution. There was an average decrease in the height of rice plants of 4.0–5.0 cm, and grain yield was decreased by 20.0–30.0%, compared with the control. The uptake of Cd by rice plants was promoted due to the interactions between Cd and the other heavy metals added to the soil. The Cd concentration in roots, stems/leaves and seeds increased 31.6–47.7, 16.7–61.5 and 19.6–78.6%, respectively. Due to interactions, uptake of Pb, Cu and Zn by roots and stems/leaves was inhibited, accumulation of Pb, Cu and Zn in seeds was increased, uptake of As by roots was promoted and uptake of As by stems/leaves was inhibited. In particular, the upward transporting ability of the heavy metals absorbed by rice plants was significantly increased.  相似文献

Cadmium accumulation, the relative content of different chemical forms of Cd, as well as the toxic effect of Cd on nutrient element uptake, physiological parameters, and ultrastructure of Sagittaria sagittifolia L. seedlings were determined after the seedlings were exposed to different Cd concentrations for 4 days. The results showed that S. sagittifolia had the ability to accumulate large amounts of Cd. In the root, stem, and bulb, the predominant chemical Cd forms were NaCl extractable. With an increase in the Cd2+ concentration, the chlorophyll content, the relative membrane penetrability (RMP) of root cells, peroxidase (POD) activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in leaves, malondiadehyde (MDA) content and the superoxide anion (O2) generation rate in roots all decreased following an initial increase. On the other hand, catalase (CAT) activity, SOD activity in roots, MDA content, and the generation rate of O2 in leaves all increased gradually. The toxic effect of Cd2+ was more severe on roots than on leaves at the same concentration. Cadmium affected the mineral nutrition balance; mainly, it promoted the uptake of Ca, Cu, Mn, and Fe, while inhibited Mg, Na, and K uptake. The physiological toxic effect of Cd2+ was close to the ultrastructural damage induced by Cd contamination. A significant correspondence was observed between the Cd dose and its toxic effect. Cadmium could destroy the normal ultrastructure, disturb the ion balance, and interfere with cell metabolism.  相似文献

Characteristics of cadmium (Cd) accumulation and tolerance in Rorippa globosa (Turcz.) Thell., a species with some characteristics of cadmium hyperaccumulation were further investigated and compared with a closely related species, Rorippa islandica. The results showed that there was no phytotoxicity for R. globosa leaves or reduction in biomass when treated with 25 μg Cd g−1, although the concentration of Cd accumulated in the leaves was up to 218.9 μg Cd g−1 dry weight (DW). On the contrary, Cd toxicity was observed in R. islandica leaves by way of determining changes in fresh weight (FW), malondialdehyde (MDA) level and chlorophyll content while treated with 25 μg Cd g−1 DW. R. globosa had stronger self-protection ability than R. islandica to adapt to oxidative stress caused by Cd. Application of Cd significantly increased the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in leaves, the activity of peroxidase (POD) in roots, and the activity of catalase (CAT) in leaves and roots of R. globosa. By contrast, in R. islandica, the activity of antioxidant enzymes was inhibited or unchanged by various Cd treatments. However, R. globosa leaves had higher activity of antioxidant enzymes such as SOD and POD than that of R. islandica. The antioxidative defense systems in R. globosa might play an important role in Cd tolerance. The Cd treatments significantly induced the synthesis of phytochelatins (PCs) in the two species. Leaf PCs and Cd accumulation by R. globosa were much greater than those by R. islandica, but root PCs and Cd accumulation by R. islandica were much greater than those by R. globosa, suggesting that PCs in leaves may be a biomarker of Cd hyperaccumulation, and the synthesis of PCs may be related to an increase in the uptake of Cd ions into the cytoplasm, not the primary mechanism for Cd tolerance.  相似文献
