Only a few authors examined several lateral asymmetries in families simultaneously. Seven lateralities (handedness, footedness, eyedness, earedness, hand clasping, arm folding and leg crossing) were examined in a sample of 292 biologically related parent-offspring triads and 36 sibling pairs. Analysis of the family data showed a significant association between parents and children in most lateralities. The frequency of left-sidedness increased with the number of left-sided parents. Only in the case of footedness and hand clasping there are no significant correlations. Additionally we investigated the inter-relationship between the lateralities in the parental generation. There is a relative strong relation especially among the functional asymmetries. The study analysed also the genetic association (linkage) according to McManus & Mascie-Taylor (1979) between seven different lateralized characteristics. It is shown that the lateral asymmetries correlate genetically relatively imperfectly with each other comparing the inter-relationship between the lateralities in the parental generation. This implicates a multigenetical and also multifactorial determination of laterality in human being.  相似文献

Four anthroposcopic traits, namely hand clasping, arm folding, tongue rolling and tongue curling have been studied in a total of 7763 individuals from Thessaloniki and its surroundings, representing a sample of the population of Northern Greece. The statistical analysis of the data indicates significant sex differences only concerning tongue rolling. The frequencies obtained for the four traits under study are compared with data from the literature.  相似文献

A study is carried out on the distribution of ABO, MN, Rh, P and Le blood groups systems, haptoglobins, and common anthropogenetic features in the population of two villages of the Samarkand district. The examined samples have appeared to be heterogenous for ABO, Rh and P systems. For MN and Le unification is possible. The summary data on the allotment of phenotypes are as follows: (%) 0-30.2, A-35.3, B-26.2, AB-8.3, M-33.9, N-26.2, MN-39.9, Rh- -1.5, P-78.6, Le(a-b+)-33, Le (a+b-)-22.2, Le(a-b-)-34.2, Le(a+b+)-10.6. Gene frequencies have are calculated. The occurrence with regards to haptoglobins in both the villages is the same. The summary data are as follows: Hp1=1-4.8, Hp1=2-36.2, Hp2=2-59%. Gene frequencies have been calculated. In the population of the village Karakent there is a change of the frequency in many features of dermatoglyphics. The frequencies of anthropogenetic features do not differ between the villages. The summary data are the following: the frequency of theelbow type of hand is 86.9%, the right type of "hand clasping"-55.0%, the right type of "arm folding"-50.4%, righthandedness-99.7%. The occurence of square lobe of the ear is 21%, spliced one is 26.2%, the hanging down is 52.7%. The frequency of the gene insensitivity for PTC taste is 0.47 in one village and 0.53 in the other.  相似文献

The literature concerning the asymmetry clasping hands is reviewed based on 192 studies. This paper describes the incidence, sex differences, age differences and genetical problems including twinning. The incidence of left hand clasping ranges from 30% to 75% (mean 43%). The review confirms the so-called east-west-gradient and there is a predominance of the left type in Europe. Age and sex differences are only small. There is only a small relationship between hand clasping and handedness. 18 authors examined hand clasping in families and 4 in twins. The family data suggest that hand clasping may be under genetic control, yet it is clear that no simple genetic model for the inheritance can be applied. Both monozygotic and dizygotic twins show a low concordance and the R-R, R-L and L-L pairs in monozygotic and dizygotic twins are in binomial distribution.  相似文献

14 population groups of Sikkim (India)--Lepchas (2), Bhutias (2), Sherpas, Tamangs, Gurungs, Mangars, Rais, Limboos/Subbas, Pradhans (Newars), Brahmans, Chhetris, Scheduled Castes--have been studied in regard of the intra- and intergroup variability of colour blindness, ear lobe attachment, mid-phalangeal hair and behavioural traits (tongue folding, hand clapsing, arm folding, leg folding, handedness). Some of these variables show a considerable distribution heterogeneity, which is discussed considering history and marriage patterns of these populations. As most of them are highly endogamous one can assume that this heterogeneity is caused by locally acting factors such as drift and/or founder effects, which could be preserved due to as good as lacking gene flow among the populations under study. Beyond that the Sikkim data are compared briefly with those reported for other Indian and Asiatic populations.  相似文献

The paper deals with the distribution of genetic markers (systems ABO, MN, Rh (D), Hp, PTC) and a number of demographic (folding of arms, hand clasping, tongue rolling, right- and left-handedness, of the type of ear lobe, of the types of dermatoglyphic patterns) in the inhabitants of 6 villages in the Mezen District of the Archangelsk Region of the RSFSR (river Peosa basin). The data presented in this work were obtained in the course of examination of over 800 persons. Differences in the interpretation of the results of generally adopted methods of statistical analysis of samples from small populations are discussed. Among the systems analysed in one third of all the cases there was a statistically significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg's ratios. For the MN blood groups and haptoglobins this was caused by the excess of heterozygotes. The test of Hardy--Weinberg's ratios at the level of two-loci phenotypes revealed no statistically significant deviations either in separate villages or in all the villages taken together. The analysis of heterogeneity with respect to markers inherited according to Mendel's law revealed statistically significant differences between villages in all the systems except haptoglobins. A considerable heterogeneity in the distribution of family names, the frequencies of some of them varying from village to village from 0 to 90%. Statistically significant differences between villages were shown for all the anthropogenetic characters except arm folding, hand clasping and right-left-handedness. Considering the uniformity of the environmental pressure in the region examined, the heterogeneity of the population studied is apparently associated with a random genetic differentiation (genetic drift) and, possibly, with the effect of the progenitor.  相似文献

Predominance of right‐handedness has historically been considered as a hallmark of human evolution. Whether nonhuman primates exhibit population‐level manual bias remains a controversial topic. Here, we investigated the hypothesis that bimanual coordinated activities may be a key‐behavior in our ancestors for the emergence and evolution of human population‐level right‐handedness. To this end, we collected data on hand preferences in 35 captive gorillas (Gorilla gorilla) during simple unimanual reaching and for bimanual coordinated feeding. Unimanual reaching consisted of grasping food on the ground, while bimanual feeding consisted of using one hand for holding a food and processing the food item by the opposite hand. No population‐level manual bias was found for unimanual actions but, in contrast, gorillas exhibited a significant population‐level right‐handedness for the bimanual actions. Moreover, the degree of right‐handedness for bimanual feeding exceeds any other known reports of hand use in primates, suggesting that lateralization for bimanual feeding is robust in captive gorillas. The collective evidence is discussed in the context of potential continuity of handedness between human and nonhuman primates. Am J Phys Anthropol 2010. © 2009 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Here we show that qualitatively, the building blocks folding model accounts for three-state versus the two-state protein folding. Additionally, it is consistent with the faster versus slower folding rates of the two-state proteins. Specifically, we illustrate that the building blocks size, their mode of associations in the native structure, the number of ways they can combinatorially assemble, their population times and the way they are split in the iterative, step-by-step structural dissection which yields the anatomy trees, explain a broad range of folding rates. We further show that proteins with similar general topologies may have different folding pathways, and hence different folding rates. On the other hand, the effect of mutations resembles that of changes in conditions, shifting the population times and hence the energy landscapes. Hence, together with the secondary structure type and the extent of local versus non-local interactions, a coherent, consistent rationale for folding kinetics can be outlined, in agreement with experimental results. Given the native structure of a protein, these guidelines enable a qualitative prediction of the folding kinetics. We further describe these in the context of the protein folding energy landscape. Quantitatively, in principle, the diffusion-collision model for the building block association can be used. However, the folding rates of the building blocks and traps in their formation and association, need to be considered.  相似文献

Structural features of protein folding nuclei   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A crucial event of protein folding is the formation of a folding nucleus. We demonstrate the presence of a considerable coincidence between the location of folding nuclei and the location of so-called "root structural motifs", which have unique overall folds and handedness. In the case of proteins with a single root structural motif, the involvement in the formation of a folding nucleus is in average significantly higher for amino acids residues that are in root structural motifs, compared to residues in other parts of the protein. The tests carried out revealed that the observed difference is statistically reliable. Thus, a structural feature that corresponds to the protein folding nucleus is now found.  相似文献

Despite the large number of publications on three‐helix protein folding, there is no study devoted to the influence of handedness on the rate of three‐helix protein folding. From the experimental studies, we make a conclusion that the left‐handed three‐helix proteins fold faster than the right‐handed ones. What may explain this difference? An important question arising in this paper is whether the modeling of protein folding can catch the difference between the protein folding rates of proteins with similar structures but with different folding mechanisms. To answer this question, the folding of eight three‐helix proteins (four right‐handed and four left‐handed), which are similar in size, was modeled using the Monte Carlo and dynamic programming methods. The studies allowed us to determine the orders of folding of the secondary‐structure elements in these domains and amino acid residues which are important for the folding. The obtained data are in good correlation with each other and with the experimental data. Structural analysis of these proteins demonstrated that the left‐handed domains have a lesser number of contacts per residue and a smaller radius of cross section than the right‐handed domains. This may be one of the explanations of the observed fact. The same tendency is observed for the large dataset consisting of 332 three‐helix proteins (238 right‐ and 94 left‐handed). From our analysis, we found that the left‐handed three‐helix proteins have some less‐dense packing that should result in faster folding for some proteins as compared to the case of right‐handed proteins.Proteins 2013; © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Resonant frequencies of arms and legs identify different walking patterns   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The present study is aimed at investigating changes in the coordination of arm and leg movements in young healthy subjects. It was hypothesized that with changes in walking velocity there is a change in frequency and phase coupling between the arms and the legs. In addition, it was hypothesized that the preferred frequencies of the different coordination patterns can be predicted on the basis of the resonant frequencies of arms and legs with a simple pendulum model. The kinematics of arms and legs during treadmill walking in seven healthy subjects were recorded with accelerometers in the sagittal plane at a wide range of different velocities (i.e., 0.3-1. 3m/s). Power spectral analyses revealed a statistically significant change in the frequency relation between arms and legs, i.e., within the velocity range 0.3-0.7m/s arm movement frequencies were dominantly synchronized with the step frequency, whereas from 0.8m/s onwards arm frequencies were locked onto stride frequency. Significant effects of walking speed on mean relative phase between leg and arm movements were found. All limb pairs showed a significantly more stable coordination pattern from 0.8 to 1.0m/s onwards. Results from the pendulum modelling demonstrated that for most subjects at low-velocity preferred movement frequencies of the arms are predicted by the resonant frequencies of individual arms (about 0.98Hz), whereas at higher velocities these are predicted on the basis of the resonant frequencies of the individual legs (about 0.85Hz). The results support the above-mentioned hypotheses, and suggest that different patterns of coordination, as shown by changes in frequency coupling and phase relations, can exist within the human walking mode.  相似文献
