Superoxide dismutase proteins (SODs) are antioxidant enzymes with important roles in abiotic stress responses. The SOD gene family has been systematically analyzed in many plants; however, it is still poorly understood in maize. Here, a bioinformatics analysis of maize SOD gene family was conducted by describing gene structure, conserved motifs, phylogenetic relationships, gene duplications, promoter cis-elements and GO annotations. In total, 13 SOD genes were identified in maize and five members were involved in segmental duplication. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that SODs from maize and other plants comprised two groups, which could be further classified into different subgroups, with most members in the same subgroup having the same subcellular localization. The ZmSOD promoters contained 2-10 stress-responsive cis-elements with different distributions. Heatmap analysis indicated that ZmSODs were expressed in most of the detected tissues and organs. The expression patterns of ZmSODs were investigated under drought and salt treatments by qRT-PCR, and most members were responsive to drought or salt stress, especially some ZmSODs with significant expression changes were identified, such as ZmCSD2 and ZmMSD2, suggesting the important roles of ZmSODs in abiotic stress responses. Our results provide an important basis for further functional study of ZmSODs in future study.  相似文献

The pathogenesis-related protein 1 (PR-1) gene family play important roles in the plant metabolism in response to biotic and abiotic stresses. The present study aimed genome-wide identification and bioinformatics analyses of PR-1 genes in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.). The analyses resulted in the identification of 13 novel SlPR-1 genes, each of which produce a protein belonging to the CAP superfamily (PF00188). The KEGG annotation analyses revealed that the SlPR-1 proteins functioned in the environmental information processing (09130). The expression patterns of the PR-1 genes and some stress-related physiological parameters were investigated in Fusarium oxysporum sensitive and tolerant tomato varieties under drought stress. The drought stress leaded upregulation of all SlPR-1 genes, reaching up to 50 folds. The results indicate that the SlPR-1 genes play active roles in response to drought. This is the first study exhibiting the expression profiles of SlPR-1 genes under an abiotic stress, drought, in tomato.  相似文献

Calcium-dependent protein kinases (CDPKs) are Ca2+-binding proteins known to play crucial roles in Ca2+ signal transduction pathways which have been identified throughout plant kingdom and in certain types of protists. Genome-wide analysis of CDPKs have been carried out in Arabidopsis, rice and wheat, and quite a few of CDPKs were proved to play crucial roles in plant stress responsive signature pathways. In this study, a comprehensive analysis of Populus CDPK and its closely related gene families was performed, including phylogeny, chromosome locations, gene structures, and expression profiles. Thirty Populus CDPK genes and twenty closely related kinase genes were identified, which were phylogenetically clustered into eight distinct subfamilies and predominately distributed across fifteen linkage groups (LG). Genomic organization analyses indicated that purifying selection has played a pivotal role in the retention and maintenance of Populus CDPK gene family. Furthermore, microarray analysis showed that a number of Populus CDPK and its closely related genes differentially expressed across disparate tissues and under various stresses. The expression profiles of paralogous pairs were also investigated to reveal their evolution fates. In addition, quantitative real-time RT-PCR was performed on nine selected CDPK genes to confirm their responses to drought stress treatment. These observations may lay the foundation for future functional analysis of Populus CDPK and its closely related gene families to unravel their biological roles.  相似文献

Dehydrins are one of the characteristic families of plant proteins that usually accumulate in response to drought. In the present study, gene expressions of dehydrin multigene family (13 genes) were examined in flag leaves of tolerant (Yousef) and susceptible (Moroco) barley varieties under terminal drought to characterize the involvement of dehydrins in the adaptive processes. The stomatal conductance, RWC, and Chl a, b contents had more reduction in Moroco than the Yousef which has more elevated osmotic adjustment. Drought stress increased significantly MDA and electrolyte leakage levels, but greater in Moroco, indicating a poor protection of cell and cytoplasmic membrane in this variety. Yousef variety had no reduction in grain yield under drought condition. Five genes (Dhn1, Dhn3, Dhn5, Dhn7 and Dhn9) were exclusively induced in Yousef under drought stress. In the stress condition, relative gene expression of Dhn3, Dhn9 had the direct correlations (P < 0.05) with Chl a, b contents, osmotic adjustment, stomatal conductance, plant biomass and grain yield, and the negative correlations (P < 0.05) with MDA and electrolyte leakage levels. The results supported the impending functional roles of dehydrin Kn and particularly YnSKn types in dehydration tolerance of barley during the reproductive stage.  相似文献

Galactinol synthase (GolS; EC 2.4.1.123) is a member of the glycosyltransferase eight family that catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis pathway of the raffinose family of oligosaccharides (RFOs). The accumulation of RFOs in response to abiotic stress indicates a role for RFOs in stress adaptation. To obtain information on the roles of RFOs in abiotic stress adaptation in trees, we investigated the expression patterns of nine Populus trichocarpa GolS (PtrGolS) genes with special reference to stress responses. PtrGolS genes were differentially expressed in different organs, and the expressions of PtrGolS4 and PtrGolS6 were relatively high in all tested organs. The expression levels of all PtrGolS genes, except PtrGolS9, changed in response to abiotic stress in gene- and stress-type-specific manners. Moreover, short- and long-term stress treatments revealed that induction of PtrGolS by salt stress is obvious only in the early period of treatment (within 24 h), whereas water-deficit stress treatments continued to upregulate PtrGolS gene expression after two days of treatment, in addition to induction within 24 h of treatment. Consistent with these expression patterns, the galactinol content in leaves increased after four days of drought stress, but not under salt stress. Our findings suggest divergent roles for PtrGolS genes in abiotic stress responses in poplars.  相似文献

The role of polyol transporters in stress tolerance in plants have been elucidated by many studies. Sorbitol transporter genes MdSOT3, MdSOT4 and MdSOT5 in apple plants, which are important for sorbitol loading and unloading, are regulated by drought stress. To further confirm the role of sorbitol transporters in stress tolerance, the constructs harboring MdSOT3 and MdSOT5 genes were introduced into wild type Arabidopsis plants (Col-0) and the Arabidopsis transformed with MdSOT3 or MdSOT5 performed higher drought stress tolerance compared to WT. In order to further understand how sorbitol transporters are involved in drought tolerance in apple plants, upstream regions of sorbitol transporter genes were isolated from apple plant source leaves by Anchored PCR from genomic DNA obtained, and then were used to drive expression of the GUS reporter in tobacco plants. The results showed that the longest fragments of MdSOT3 and MdSOT5 promoters induced the highest GUS activity under drought stress conditions. Additionally, fragments of these promoters that contain cis-acting elements known to be involved in stress response also induced GUS activity under drought stress. Taken together, our data suggest that increased MdSOT3 and MdSOT5 activity, through cis-acting elements in the promoters of these genes, play important roles in imparting tolerance to drought in micropropagated apple plants.  相似文献

S-acylation is one of a group of lipid modifications that occurs on eukaryotic proteins, mediated by DHHC-CRD-containing proteins, which plays an important role in regulating the membrane association, trafficking and function of target proteins. Although genome-wide identification of PAT family has been carried out in yeast, mice, humans and Arabidopsis, little is known about apple PAT genes. In this study, a total of 33 putative apple PAT proteins, containing DHHC-CRD by domain analysis, have been identified, and were classified into three groups according to the phylogenetic analysis of PAT proteins in apple and Arabidopsis. More complex TMDs in the most MdPATs revealed the PM location of the gene family. Gene structure, gene chromosomal location and paralogs analysis of MdPAT genes within the apple genome demonstrated that tandem and segmental duplications, as well as whole genome duplications, have likely contributed to the expansion and evolution of the PAT gene family in apple. According to the microarray and expressed sequence tag (ESTs) analysis, the different expression patterns indicate that they may play different roles during fruit development and rootstock-scion interactions process. Moreover, PATs were performed expression profile analyses in different tissues, indicating that the PATs are involved in various aspects of physiological and developmental processes of apple. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a genome-wide analysis of the apple PAT gene family, and this genomic analysis of apple DHHC-CRD PAT genes provides the first step towards a functional study of this gene family in apple.  相似文献
