Thiamine pyrophosphate was the predominant form of thiamine present initially in walleye Sander vitreus eggs from two spawning locations in Lake Oahe, South Dakota, U.S.A. Total thiamine content in the eggs at fertilization was 5·18 and 7·97 nmol g−1 for eggs from the Moreau and Grand River spawning sites respectively, and egg thiamine content in all its forms dropped dramatically at the next sampling period of 48 temperature units (TU). Thiamine values did not significantly drop after the 48 TU period, but mean total thiamine composition was < 0·9 nmol g−1 at the last sampling date (156 TU) just prior to hatching.  相似文献

Hemiculter leucisculus are multiple spawners with indeterminate fecundity, although previous fecundity estimates have assumed a determinate spawning pattern. Batch fecundity and spawning frequency of H. leucisculus were studied in Erhai Lake, China, in which the fish, as an exotic species, has become a successful colonizer. Spawning frequency was 16.05 %, as determined from the percent of females with postovulatory follicles 12 to 36 h old during the peak reproductive period (from May 27 to August 8). The average interval between spawning was 6.2 days and there were more than 16 total spawning batches during the peak reproductive period. The average batch fecundity (mean ± SD) was 11,934?±?5,921 hydrated oocytes in 40 females (standard length or SL: 9.1–14.4 cm), while relative batch fecundity was 560?±?137 eggs g?1 wet weight. The total potential annual fecundity was approximately 190,944 oocytes over the whole spawning season and was much higher than the estimated standing stock (31,585 oocytes) of yolked oocytes (36 females, SL: 9.5–16.2 cm) at the beginning of the spawning season in April 2010. This high annual fecundity is likely to have contributed to successful invasion of Erhai Lake by H. leucisculus.  相似文献

This work focuses on aspects of reproductive biology of Sardina pilchardus from the Atlantic coast of Morocco. The mean values of batch fecundity estimated for the species is 23150(+/-1301) oocytes for a mean size of 19.5(+/-0.49) cm, the mean relative fecundity being 346(+/-7.34) oocytes per gram of female without ovary. Batch fecundity increases with total length and body weight without ovary. Sizes at first sexual maturity (L50) are reached for males and females at 15.8(+/-0.29) cm and 15.8(+/-0.35) cm, respectively. The spawning period for the population extends between October and July and the spawning peak occurs from October to February. However, the small sardines (14.5-17 cm) in their first reproduction spawn between November and June, whereas larger fish (17.5-25 cm) spawn between October and July. The factor of condition (K) increased in summer during the sexual resting phase. It is weak in winter during the period of reproduction. Regarding, the sex ratio, there was no significant difference in the number of males and females.  相似文献

The physical factor inducing spawning of the Biwa catfish, Silurus biwaensis (Siluriformes: Siluridae), an endemic species of Lake Biwa, was investigated on the basis of field observations on 150 nights at the spawning site, the rocky shore of the Seta River, the lake's outlet, and environmental data from April to July in 1989–1994. The catfish gathered at the spawning site when the water level of the river rapidly rose and the rocky shoal became submerged, within a wide range of water temperature (15.0°–30.0°C); their spawning was induced in relation to increases in the submerged portion of the rocky shoal. This observation suggests that water level control operations in Lake Biwa might critically affect the spawning of this and other fish species. The testicular and ovarian maturation cycle of thedory snapper, Lutjanus fulviflamma(Forsskål) (Osteichthyes:Lutjanidae), acommercially valuable species in the western IndianOcean, is described macroscopically. The ovary wasalso studied microscopically. L. fulviflammahas one prolonged spawning season which begins fromNovember/December, lasting till April/May. Discontinuous spawning is established by (i) temporalvariation in the relative weight of testis andovaries, (ii) a seasonal occurrence of various maturitystages and, (iii) a seasonal occurrence of developingfish in the samples. Using volumetric andhistological techniques, the fecundity of this specieswas determined at 51,000 to 460,000 (mean: 167,000)oocytes in fish of between 17 to 30 cm total length,respectively. Oocyte recrudescence in the ovary isasyncronous, but the number and size of batches ofeggs released in a single spawning season are yet tobe determined.  相似文献

Basic biological information was collected to assist in understanding the biology of selected small-bodied fishes for use in environmental monitoring programmes. Gonado-somatic index ( I G) and hepato-somatic index ( I H) profiles of female blacknose dace Rhinichthys atratulus , mummichog Fundulus heteroclitus and golden shiner Notemigonus crysoleucas were similar, decreasing gradually during the spawning season. I G and I H profiles of female northern redbelly dace Phoxinus eos peaked twice suggesting oocyte recruitment was continuous throughout the spawning season. Regressions of ovary mass to adjusted body mass ( M A) were more variable in dace relative to the other fish species. For female blacknose dace, variability in the relationship between ovary mass and M A was minimized by selecting either 2 year-old fish and fish that weighed 2–4 g.  相似文献

Sectioned otoliths were used for age and growth determination of the alien Micropterus salmoides from Lake Chicamba, a hydroelectric dam in central Mozambique. Marginal zone analysis showed that annulus formation occurred during winter in August and September. The maximum estimated age was 5 years. Growth was described by the 3 parameter von Bertalanffy model as Lt=465.51 (1 – e-1.175(t+0.009)) mm FL. Juvenile growth rate was 23.1 mm per month during their first 7 months of life. The age at 100% maturity was 0.9 years, and spawning occurred during August and September. The juvenile fish fed sequentially on the most abundant prey items. Spawning occured before any of the indigenous fish species and so, there is little inter-specific competition. Conspecific juveniles formed the most important constituent in the adult M. salmoides diet from October to December when alternative prey was limited. The total annual mortality rate (Z) for the species in Lake Chicamba was 1.27 yr-1, the mean empirical estimate of natural mortality (M) was 0.73 yr-1, and fishing mortality (F) was calculated at 0.54 yr-1. The success of M. salmoides in Lake Chicamba was attributed to limited inter-specific and intra-specific competition for prey as a consequence of the timing of the spawning, cannibalism and high mortality rates.  相似文献

Exposure of adolescent turbot Scophthalmus maximus to low rations during vitellogenesis, covering the 4 months immediately prior to spawning, led to a drop of 70% in mean ovary weight, and was associated with poor growth of the vitellogenic oocytes or, in a third of cases, the absence of vitellogenic oocytes. Exposure to low rations during the recruitment of vitellogenic oocytes, 4–8 months prior to spawning, produced a more variable response. A few of these females produced well-developed vitellogenic oocytes, but in most, vitellogenic oocytes were absent or only poorly developed and in some cases there was a high incidence of atresia. Exposure to intermediate rations throughout oocyte recritment and vitellogenesis also depressed oocyte development. In maturing females the number of non-atretic vitellogenic oocytes (relative potential fecundity) averaged 998 per g of somatic body weight of fish at the start of the spawning season in mid-June. Maturation of the males was not significantly influenced by the dietary regime. The small size of the testes and the low levels of milt production, even in fish fed high rations immediately prior to spawning, showed that reproductive investment in males was much lower than in females.  相似文献

In 47 families of New Zealand chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha derived from two populations, differing in mean spawning date by 11–17 days and in juvenile life history, neither mean ovum weight nor mean time to hatch differed between the two populations, but substantial differences in mean family weight were apparent from 6 months after fertilization. Differences in growth rates from 12 to 24 months were relatively small, suggesting that most of the divergence in size and growth occurred during the first 6 months of life. There were differences in mean weight for families spawned 11–17 days apart, the approximate interval by which peak spawning date differs between the two populations, but these did not persist beyond 7 months. Differences between the two populations are consistent with their natural life history. The slower growing population experiences cooler temperatures during stream residence and is dominated by fish which spend a year in fresh water before seaward migration, whereas the faster growing population normally experiences warmer temperatures and migrates to sea in the first year of life. These results provide further evidence of life history evolution in partially isolated chinook salmon populations within 90 years ( c. 30 generations) of becoming established.  相似文献

st young-of-the-year (YOY) fishes in two lowland rivers in the Czech Republic (Danube Basin) drifted from mid-May to mid-July and almost exclusively at night. The peak of drift density lasted c . 3 weeks and depended on water temperature (by its effect on fish spawning), but not on discharge. Peak drift densities varied between years and rivers from 80 to 1354 fish 1000 m−3. More than 98% of drifting fish were cyprinids. Rutilus rutilus, Rhodeus sericeus, Gobio spp., Alburnus alburnus and Abramis brama were dominate in the 22 species encountered in the River Morava. Carassius auratus gibelio and R. sericeus were the most common of 17 species in the River Kyjovka. Species composition of drifting fishes was similar among years in the Morava but varied in the Kyjovka. The species composition of drifting fishes did not differ from those of the YOY fish assemblage in nursery areas during the drift season. Relative abundances in nursery areas decreased after the drift season in species that dominated in the drift, but increased in those that avoided drift. It is suggested that drift is a regular part of the life history of many cyprinid fishes and interannual variability in density and species composition of drifting YOY fish can be explained by variable spawning success among years. Differences in the relative abundances of the YOY fish assemblage in nurseries during and after the drift season suggests that drift may cause significant mortality.  相似文献

为探究五里湖仔稚鱼群落结构及分布特征,于2016年4—10月对五里湖仔稚鱼进行系统调查。期间共采集仔稚鱼70678尾,共鉴定出鱼类20种(属),隶属于7目8科18属。五里湖仔稚鱼密度均值为3825尾/100 m3,主要优势种为?属(Hemiculter sp.),其数量占比为68.76%。五里湖仔稚鱼主要采集于4—8月,密度高峰期为6月,各物种密度高峰期存在差异,最早的为鲤(Cyprinus carpio)、鲫(Carassius auratus,4月),最晚的为短吻银鱼属(Salangichthys sp.,8—9月)。五里湖仔稚鱼分布具有显著的空间差异,沿岸带仔稚鱼密度显著高于(P<0.05)敞水区,密度分别为5650和310尾/100 m3。西五里湖仔稚鱼的密度高于东五里湖,密度分别为4482和3600尾/100 m3。典范对应分析结果显示,水温、溶解氧、浮游植物和浮游动物密度是与仔稚鱼分布显著相关的环境因子(P<0.05)。研究结果显示,五里湖鱼类主要繁殖期为4—8月,主要产卵和育幼水域为沿岸带,其中西五里湖的育幼功能优于东五里湖,因此进一步维持对西五里湖的生境保护,加强东五里湖沿岸带植被恢复及入湖支流水质监控,控制外源污染物,对促进五里湖生境优化及鱼类资源自然增殖具有积极意义。  相似文献

A spawning pheromone in the milt (semen) and testes of the Pacific herring,Clupea harengus pallasi,is thought to facilitate school spawning of this species. We found that responsiveness to the spawning pheromone was variable among ripe fish (milt-producing or ovulated). Measurement of five principle reproductive steroids in the free form and five steroids in conjugated forms in the plasma of male fish early in the spawning season (newly ripe fish) showed that elevated plasma levels of 3α,17α-dihydroxy-5β-pregnan-20-one and 17α-hydroxyprogesterone coincided with responsiveness to the spawning pheromone in these fish; levels of other steroids did not differ. In contrast, responsiveness to the pheromone by female fish later in the spawning season (ripe-and-holding fish) coincided with lower levels of glucuronated 17α,20β-dihydroxyprogesterone and a lower gonadosomatic index. We suggest that these differences indicate a more advanced mature reproductive state in the responsive individuals among both the newly ripe male and the ripe-and-holding female fish. We found no differences in the level of cortisol in the blood of the herring that could be correlated with differences in pheromonal responsiveness. We conclude that differences in responsiveness to the spawning pheromone coincide to some extent with levels of reproductive maturation but probably not with recent stress.  相似文献

Gonad development of the silver therapon Leiopotherapon plumbeus in two volcanic crater  lake  habitats (Sampaloc Lake, Taal Lake) in south Luzon, Philippines was examined during the annual reproductive cycle. The minimum body size‐at‐maturity of fish in these two lake habitats was also compared. Four gonad development stages were characterized as basis for the classification of ovarian (immature, maturing, mature, spawned) and testicular maturation (immature, maturing, mature) phases. The occurrence of all development stages in individual gonads suggest an asynchronous development whereby advanced stages are recruited continuously from a pool of younger stage germ cells to result in elevated female and male GSI throughout the annual cycle due to active gonadogenesis. Together with the increasing occurrence of advanced stage oocytes and spermatozoa from March until October, the elevated GSI of fish may indicate peak gonadal growth during the onset of the dry season (December–January) for eventual spawning from the beginning (May–June) until the end of the wet season (October–November). In both lake habitats, male fish were smaller than females but, regardless of sex, the minimum size‐at‐maturity of fish in Sampaloc Lake was significantly smaller than fish in Taal Lake. Overall, asynchronous development during oogenesis and spermatogenesis allows for year‐round reproduction of silver therapon, with elevated gonad growth in the dry season in preparation for spawning during the wet season. Compared with fish in Taal Lake, a smaller size‐at‐maturity of fish in Sampaloc Lake may be a response of the wild fishery stock to long‐term high fishing mortality and degradation of the lake habitat.  相似文献

Pond smelt,Hypomesus nipponensis McAllister, in Lake Ogawara demonstrate alternative life history strategies, as evidenced by the coexistence of anadromous and resident fish. However, it is unknown if anadromous and resident groups interbreed. In this study, maturation and spawning processes were examined and compared between anadromous and resident groups. Histological observations indicated negligible variation in the maturational stage composition of oocytes, the frequency of oocyte diameter being unimodal for all specimens at different maturational stages. Oocytes were absent in the ovaries of spent fish. Accordingly, the species can be considered a semelparous spawner with unimodal oocyte diameter distribution. Temporal changes in the proportion of spent fish were compared between anadromous and resident groups. Spawning of both groups began in late March and peaked over April 8–12. Although both groups did not differ significantly in the period of peak spawning, anadromous fish finished spawning earlier than resident ones. Anadromous fish were not able to spawn upon migration into Lake Ogawara, and quickly matured after immigration, contrasting with resident fish.  相似文献

Three of the five major species of catfishes in Lake Victoria displayed continuous, protracted (fractional) spawning activity with half or more of the population in gonadal stages IV–VI. Pulses in reproductive activity occurred in all species and were generally positioned between the established, rainy seasons for East Africa. Although highly variable, relative fecundity was positively correlated with body length and weight of fish in all species. The annual migration pattern of round sardinella Sardinella aurita up and down the north-western African coast between 12° N (Senegal) and 22° N (western Sahara) was shown to be associated with spawning activity and a distinct seasonality in fish condition, based on monthly sampling from commercial catches (2000–2003). Some S. aurita were found to spawn throughout the entire year, but a peak in spawning existed during the summer (June to September). The spawning cycle is apparent from seasonality in maturity stages, but is also demonstrated by the increase in gonad mass and fat content of the fish in springtime, the period preceding spawning. During the months after spawning, although feeding is maintained, the physical condition of the fish collapses, and fat content rapidly declines.  相似文献

In this study, an outdoor pool experiment was used to evaluate the effect of prey resources during 4 months before spawning on the gonadal investments of male and female white crappie Pomoxis annularis , a popular freshwater sportfish that exhibits erratic recruitment. Fish were assigned one of three feeding treatments: starved, fed once every 5 days (intermediate) or fed daily (high). All measurements of male testes ( i.e. wet mass, energy density and spermatocrit) were similar across treatments. Conversely, high-fed females produced larger ovaries than those of intermediate-fed and starved fish, and invested more energy in their ovaries than starved fish. Compared to pre-experiment fish, starved and intermediate-fed females appeared to increase their ovary size by relying on liver energy stores ('capital' spawning). Conversely, high-fed females increased liver and gonad mass, implying an 'income'-spawning strategy (where gonads are built from recently acquired energy). Fecundity did not differ among treatments, but high-fed fish built larger eggs than those starved. Females rarely 'skipped' spawning opportunities when prey resources were low, as only 8% of starved females and 8% of intermediate-fed females lacked vitellogenic eggs. These results suggest that limited prey resources during the months before spawning can limit ovary production, which, in turn, can limit reproductive success of white crappies.  相似文献

Labeo horie Heckel is increasingly becoming commercially important in Lake Chamo but its reproductive biology in the lake is not well enough to guide its management. Sex ratio, breeding season, length at first maturity and fecundity of L. horie were studied from 1197 fish samples collected between August 1998 and October 1999 in Lake Chamo, Ethiopia. The sex ratio was significantly different (χ 2 = 12.12, P < 0.001). The peak‐breeding period was during the rainy months of March to May, during which time more than 90% of both sexes had ripe gonads. The size at maturity ( L m50 ) of males was 52 cm while the L m50 of females was 62 cm. The smallest ripe male in the catch was 46.7 cm and weighed 890 g while the smallest ripe female caught was 49.5 cm and weighed 1145 g. The weight of ripe ovaries ranged from 54.3 g to 991.8 g and contained between 68,400 and 1,320,400 eggs. Relative fecundity ranged between 60 and 290 eggs per g of body weight. The relationships between fecundity and total length and between fecundity and total weight were curvilinear, while the relationship between fecundity and ovary weight was linear. L. horie conformed to the general pattern of reproduction in a tropical environment where peak‐breeding activity occurred during the rainy season. In order to protect the spawning population, fishing pressure should be minimized during breeding time at the shallower littoral regions.  相似文献

Many wrasses on coral reefs exhibit daily spawning that peaks around daytime high tides. In this study, we examined tidal-related ovarian development in the threespot wrasse, Halichoeres trimaculatus, a species common on coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. When the fish were collected in the morning at different tidal phases, the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and ovarian histology changed; concomitant with increases in GSI towards high tide, a clutch of the most advanced oocytes developed from vitellogenic to maturation stages. Ovulated eggs and post-ovulated follicles (POF) existed in most ovaries around high tide, but only POF remained around ebb tide, suggesting that spawning occurred during or after high tide. We noticed that tidal-related spawning was considerable in the morning and that most ovaries collected on the afternoon high tide exhibited post-spawning features. This suggests that certain labrid species possess plasticity with regard to their spawning time and utilize potent environmental cues to ensure their reproductive success. When pieces of ovary were incubated with precursor steroids, high conversion of testosterone to 17beta-estradiol occurred during high and ebb tides, while that of 17alpha-hydroxyprogesterone to 17alpha,20beta-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one and 17alpha,20beta,21-trihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one was observed during low and flood tides. Incubation of pieces of ovary with human chorionic gonadotropin resulted in similar fluctuations in the steroid hormones with tidal phase. Production of these steroid hormones correlated with oocyte development in the ovaries and was probably regulated by gonadotropin. These results demonstrate that the daily cycle is fundamental for oocyte development, and that the tidal cycle is superimposed on this process.  相似文献

本文是对已达性成熟年龄的池养和江河雌性草鱼产卵前后卵巢组织学结构的研究。实验结果证明草鱼是一次产卵类型。经人工催产后的雌性草鱼,由于亲鱼的成熟程度存在个体间的差异,有的全产,有的部分产。在湘江天然产卵场捕得的雌性草鱼,也有全产和部分产的。人工催产全产后的卵巢组织学结构是Ⅰ、Ⅱ时相,部分产后的卵巢组织学结构是Ⅰ、Ⅱ和Ⅳ(Ⅳ+、Ⅳ++)时相,已达满熟阶段但未经人工催产的卵巢组织学结构是Ⅰ、Ⅱ和Ⅳ(Ⅳ+++)时相,以上都未发现有处于Ⅲ时相的卵母细胞。从江河天然产卵场捕得的全产、部分产和尚未产卵的雌性草鱼的卵巢组织学结构,与上述结果一致。证实由Ⅲ时相到Ⅳ时相是同步性的。5月全产后的雌性草鱼,其卵巢组织学结构在6-9月内处于第Ⅱ期,没有新的Ⅳ时相卵母细胞。因此,夏季全产后的雌性草鱼,不可能在当年夏季或秋季完成由Ⅱ-Ⅲ-Ⅳ时相的发育程序。草鱼的卵巢成熟系数在繁殖季节只出现一次高峰。    相似文献
