In this work, a new strategy to design low‐temperature (≤200 °C) sintered dye‐sensitized solar cells (lt‐DSSC) is reported to enhance charge collection efficiencies (ηcoll), photoconversion efficiencies (η), and stabilities under continuous operation conditions. Realization of lt‐DSSC is enabled by the integration of hybrid nanoparticles based on TiO2‐Ru(II) complex (TiO2_Ru_IS)—obtained by in situ bottom‐up construction of Ru(II) N3 dye‐sensitized titania—into the photoelectrode. Incentives for the use of TiO2_Ru_IS are i) dye stability due to its integration into the TiO2 anatase network and ii) enhanced charge collection yield due to its significant resistance toward electron recombination with electrolytes. It is demonstrated that devices with single‐layer photoelectrodes featuring blends of P25 and TiO2_Ru_IS give rise to a 60% ηcoll relative to a 46% ηcoll for devices with P25‐based photoelectrodes. Responsible for this trend is a better charge transport and a reduced electron recombination. When using a multilayered photoelectrode architecture with a top layer based only on TiO2_Ru_IS, devices with an even higher ηcoll (74%) featuring a η of around 8.75% and stabilities of 600 h are achieved. This represents the highest values reported for lt‐DSSC to date.  相似文献

TiCl4 surface treatment studies of porous electrode structure of TiO2 aggregates synthesized using an acidic precursor and CTAB as a templating agent are carried out in order to understand and improve upon recombination kinetics in the photonanode film matrix, together with enhancing the intrinsic light scattering. The key beneficial features of the photoanode included high surface roughness, necessary for superior dye adsorption, nanocrystallite aggregates leading to diffuse light scattering within the film matrix, and a hierarchical macro‐ and mesopore structure allowing good access of electrolyte to the dye, thereby assisting in dye regeneration (enhanced charge transfer). Pre‐treatment of the TiO2 electrodes reduced recombination at the fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO)/electrolyte interface. The post‐treatment study showed enhanced surface roughness through the deposition of a thin overlayer of amorphous TiO2 on the film structure. This led to a notable improvement in both dye adsorption and inherent light scattering effects by the TiO2 aggregates, resulting in enhanced energy harvesting. The thin TiO2 overlayer also acted as a barrier in a core‐shell configuration within the porous TiO2 matrix, and thereby reduced recombination. This allowed the hierarchical macro‐ and mesoporosity of the film matrix to be utilized more effectively for enhanced charge transfer during dye regeneration. Post‐treatment of the aggregated TiO2 matrix resulted in a 36% enhancement in power conversion efficiency from 4.41% of untreated cells to 6.01%.  相似文献

Overcoming ionic diffusion limitations is essential for the development of high‐efficiency dye‐sensitized solar cells based on cobalt redox mediators. Here, improved mass transport is reported for photoanodes composed of mesoporous TiO2 beads of varying pore sizes and porosities in combination with the high extinction YD2‐o‐C8 porphyrin dye. Compared to a photoanode made of 20 nm‐sized TiO2 particles, electrolyte diffusion through these films is greatly improved due to the large interstitial pores between the TiO2 beads, resulting in up to 70% increase in diffusion‐limited current. Simultaneously, transient photocurrent measurements reveal no mass transport limitations for films of up to 10 μm thickness. In contrast, standard photoanodes made of 20 nm‐sized TiO2 particles show non‐linear behavior in photocurrent under 1 sun illumination for a film thickness as low as 7 μm. By including a transparent thin mesoporous TiO2 underlayer in order to reduce optical losses at the fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO)‐TiO2 interface, an efficiency of 11.4% under AM1.5G 1 sun illumination is achieved. The combination of high surface area, strong scattering behavior, and high porosity makes these mesoporous TiO2 beads particularly suitable for dye‐sensitized solar cells using bulky redox couples and/or viscous electrolytes.  相似文献

A 3D transparent conducting oxide (3D‐TCO) has been fabricated by growing Sn‐doped indium oxide (ITO) nanowire arrays on glass substrates via a vapor transport method. The 3D TCO charge‐collection properties have been compared to those of conventional two‐dimensional TCO (2D‐TCO) thin films. For use as a photoelectrode in dye‐sensitized solar cells, ITO‐TiO2 core‐shell nanowire arrays were prepared by depositing a 45 nm‐thick mesoporous TiO2 shell layer consisting of ~6 nm anatase nanoparticles using TiCl4 treatments. Dye‐sensitized solar cells fabricated using these ITO‐TiO2 core‐shell nanowire arrays show extremely fast charge collection owing to the shorter electron paths across the 45 nm‐thick TiO2 shell compared to the 2D TCO. Interestingly, the charge‐collection time does not increase with the overall electrode thickness, which is counterintuitive to conventional diffusion models. This result implies that, in principle, maximum light harvesting can be achieved without hindering the charge collection. The proposed new 3D TCO should also be attractive for other photovoltaic applications where the active layer thickness is limited by poor charge collection.  相似文献

Perylenes are well‐known pigments with excellent chemical, thermal, and photochemical stabilities and have been used in various optical and electronic fields. Although for sensitized mesoscopic solar cells there is rapid progress of metal‐free thiophene dyes, which now reach over 11.5% power conversion efficiency (PCE) at air mass 1.5 global (AM1.5G) conditions, the so far reported highest PCE of a perylene dye is only 6.8%. Here, a new metal‐free organic donor‐acceptor (D‐A) dye ( C261 ) featuring a bisarylamino functionalized N‐annulated perylene electron‐releasing segment and a cyanoacrylic acid electron‐withdrawing unit is synthesized. Combining a mesoporous titania film grafted by this structurally simple perylene dye with a non‐corrosive cobalt redox shuttle, an 8.8% PCE is achieved at an irradiance of the AM1.5G sunlight. By selecting the model dye G221 as a reference, theoretical calculations, steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopies, and electrical measurements are used to compare the energy‐levels, light absorptions, and mutichannel charge transfer dynamics that contribute to the photovoltaic behavior.  相似文献

Organic/inorganic hybrid solar cells, typically mesoscopic and perovskite solar cells, are regarded as promising candidates to replace conventional silicon or thin film photovoltaics. There have been intensive investigations on the development of advanced materials for improved power conversion efficiencies, however, economical feasibilities and reliabilities of the organic/inorganic photovoltaics are yet to reach at a sufficient level for practical utilizations. In this study, cobalt nitride (CoN) nanofilms prepared by room‐temperature vapor deposition in an inert N2 atmosphere, which is a facile and highly reproducible procedure, are proposed as a low‐cost counter electrode in mesoscopic dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) and a hole transport material in inverted planar perovskite solar cells (PSCs) for the first time. The CoN film successfully replaces conventional Pt in DSCs, resulting in a power conversion efficiency comparable to the ones based on Pt. In addition, PSCs employing the CoN manifest high efficiency even up to 15.0%, which is comparable to state‐of‐the‐art performance in the cases of PSCs employing inorganic hole transporters. Furthermore, flexible solar cell applications of the CoN are performed in both mesoscopic and perovskite solar cells, verifying the advantages of the room‐temperature deposition process and feasibilities of the CoN nanofilms in various fields.  相似文献

For a sensitizer with a strong π‐conjugation system, a coadsorbent is needed to hinder dye aggregation. However, coadsorption always brings a decrease in dye coverage on the TiO2 surface. Organic ‘‘D–A–π–A’’ dyes, WS‐6 and WS‐11, are designed and synthesized based on the known WS‐2 material for coadsorbent‐free, dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Compared with the traditional D–π–A structure, these D–A–π–A indoline dyes, with the additional incorporated acceptor unit of benzothiadiazole in the π‐conjugation, exhibit a broad photoresponse, high redox stability, and convenient energy‐level tuning. The attached n‐hexyl chains in both dyes are effective to suppress charge recombination, resulting in a decreased dark current and enhanced open‐circuit voltage. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies indicate that both the resistance for charge recombination and the electron lifetime are increased after the introduction of alkyl chains to the dye molecules. Without deoxycholic acid coadsorption, the power‐conversion efficiency of WS‐6 (7.76%) on a 16 μm‐thick TiO2 film device is 45% higher than that of WS‐2 (5.31%) under the same conditions. The additional n‐hexylthiophene in WS‐11 extends the photoresponse to a panchromatic spectrum but causes a low incident photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency.  相似文献

As a wide‐bandgap semiconductor, titanium dioxide (TiO2) with a porous structure has proven useful in dye‐sensitized solar cells, but its application in low‐cost, high‐efficiency inorganic photovoltaic devices based on materials such as Cu(InGa)Se2 or Cu2ZnSnS4 is limited. Here, a thin film made from solution‐processed TiO2 nanocrystals is demonstrated as an alternative to intrinsic zinc oxide (i‐ZnO) as the window layer of CuInSxSe1?x solar cells. The as‐synthesized, well‐dispersed, 6 nm TiO2 nanocrystals are assembled into thin films with controllable thicknesses of 40, 80, and 160 nm. The TiO2 nanocrystal films with thicknesses of 40 and 80 nm exhibit conversion efficiencies (6.2% and 6.33%, respectively) that are comparable to that of a layer of the typical sputtered i‐ZnO (6.42%). The conversion efficiency of the devices with a TiO2 thickness of 160 nm decreases to 2.2%, owing to the large series resistance. A 9‐hour reaction time leads to aggregated nanoparticles with a much‐lower efficiency (2%) than that of the well‐dispersed TiO2 nanoparticles prepared using a 15‐hour reaction time. Under optimized conditions, the champion TiO2 nanocrystal‐film‐based device shows even higher efficiency (9.2%) than a control device employing a typical i‐ZnO film (8.6%).  相似文献

Transparent top electrodes for solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (ssDSCs) allow for fabrication of mechanically stacked ssDSC tandems, partially transparent ssDSCs for building integration, and ssDSCs on metal foil substrates. A solution‐processed, highly transparent, conductive electrode based on PEDOT:PSS [poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)] and spray‐deposited silver nanowires (Ag NWs) is developed as an effective top contact for ssDSCs. The electrode is solution‐deposited using conditions and solvents that do not damage or dissolve the underlying ssDSC and achieves high performance: a peak transmittance of nearly 93% at a sheet resistance of 18 Ω/square – all without any annealing that would harm the ssDSC. The role of the PEDOT:PSS in the electrode is twofold: it ensures ohmic contact between the ssDSC 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis‐(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenylamine)9,9′‐spirobifluorene (Spiro‐OMeTAD) overlayer and the silver nanowires and it decreases the series resistance of the device. Semitransparent ssDSCs with D35 dye fabricated using this Ag NW/PEDOT:PSS transparent electrode show power conversion efficiencies of 3.6%, nearly as high as a reference device using an evaporated silver electrode (3.7%). In addition, the semitransparent ssDSC shows high transmission between 700–1100 nm, a necessity for use in efficient tandem devices. Such an electrode, in combination with efficient ssDSCs or hybrid perovskite‐sensitized solar cells, can allow for the fabrication of efficient, cost‐effective tandem photovoltaics.  相似文献

To further boost the efficiency of dye‐sensitized solar cells, a correct evaluation of the real limitations of this type of solar cell should be conducted. From a simple analysis of the photovoltaic data found in the literature, it is evident that the Voc decrease, through energy losses, seems to be the most crucial factor diminishing the overall system efficiency. In particular, losses arising from the regeneration of the dye by the iodide/triiodide redox mediator are huge. The most convenient manner to recuperate these losses is the use of alternative redox mediators with more positive redox potentials than that of the iodide‐based shuttle. Among various types of redox active compounds, ferrocene/ferrocenium, Cu+/2+, and Co2+/3+ complexes are found to be the most effective in solar cells and the obtained efficiencies of more than 12% clearly show that a breakthrough is close, paving revolutionary roads towards making new records.  相似文献

A new self‐assembly platform for the fast and straightforward synthesis of bicontinuous, mesoporous TiO2 films is presented, based on the triblock terpolymer poly(isoprene ‐ b ‐ styrene ‐ b ‐ ethylene oxide). This new materials route allows the co‐assembly of the metal oxide as a fully interconnected minority phase, which results in a highly porous photoanode with strong advantages over the state‐of‐the‐art nanoparticle‐based photoanodes employed in solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells. Devices fabricated through this triblock terpolymer route exhibit a high availability of sub‐bandgap states distributed in a narrow and low enough energy band, which maximizes photoinduced charge generation from a state‐of‐the‐art organic dye, C220. As a consequence, the co‐assembled mesoporous metal oxide system outperformed the conventional nanoparticle‐based electrodes fabricated and tested under the same conditions, exhibiting solar power‐conversion efficiencies of over 5%.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of plasmonic core‐shell structures, consisting of dielectric cores and metallic nanoshells, on energy conversion in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is investigated. The structure of the core‐shell particles is controlled to couple with visible light so that the visible component of the solar spectrum is amplified near the core‐shell particles. In core‐shell particle – TiO2 nanoparticle films, the local field intensity and light pathways are increased due to the surface plasmons and light scattering. This, in turn, enlarges the optical cross‐section of dye sensitizers coated onto the mixed films. When 22 vol% of core‐shell particles are added to a 5 μm thick TiO2 film, the energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs increases from 2.7% to 4.0%, in spite of a more than 20% decrease in the amount of dyes adsorbed on the composite films. The correlation between core‐shell particle content and energy conversion efficiency in DSSCs is explained by the balance among near‐field effects, light scattering efficiency, and surface area in the composite films.  相似文献

A detailed investigation of the effect of hole transport material (HTM) pore filling on the photovoltaic performance of solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (ss‐DSCs) and the specific mechanisms involved is reported. It is demonstrated that the efficiency and photovoltaic characteristics of ss‐DSCs improve with the pore filling fraction (PFF) of the HTM, 2,2’,7,7’‐tetrakis‐(N, N ‐di‐ p ‐methoxyphenylamine)9,9’‐spirobifluorene(spiro‐OMeTAD). The mechanisms through which the improvement of photovoltaic characteristics takes place were studied with transient absorption spectroscopy and transient photovoltage/photocurrent measurements. It is shown that as the spiro‐OMeTAD PFF is increased from 26% to 65%, there is a higher hole injection efficiency from dye cations to spiro‐OMeTAD because more dye molecules are covered with spiro‐OMeTAD, an order‐of‐magnitude slower recombination rate because holes can diffuse further away from the dye/HTM interface, and a 50% higher ambipolar diffusion coefficient due to an improved percolation network. Device simulations predict that if 100% PFF could be achieved for thicker devices, the efficiency of ss‐DSCs using a conventional ruthenium‐dye would increase by 25% beyond its current value.  相似文献

Cobalt‐based electrolytes are highly tunable and have pushed the limits of dye‐sensitized solar cells, enabling higher open‐circuit voltages and new record efficiencies. However, the performance of these electrolytes and a range of other electrolytes suffer from slow electron transfer at platinum counter electrodes. High surface area platinum would enhance catalysis, but pure platinum structures are too expensive in practice. Here, a material‐efficient host‐guest architecture is developed that uses an ultrathin layer of platinum deposited upon an electrically conductive scaffold, niobium‐doped tin oxide (NTO). This nanostructured composite enhances the counter electrode performance of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) using a Co(II/III)BPY3 electrolyte with an increased fill factor and power conversion efficiency (11.26%), compared to analogous flat films. The modular strategy is elaborated by integrating a light scattering layer onto the counter electrode to reflect unabsorbed light back to the photoanode to improve the short‐circuit current density and power conversion efficiency.  相似文献

Novel approaches for the fabrication of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) are reported in which all the main constituent materials are processed by laser radiation. In addition to laser sintering of the nanocrystalline TiO2 film it is shown that lasers can be successfully utilized for nc‐TiO2 film patterning, platinization of the counter‐electrode, and efficient gasket sealing. All the mentioned processes are optimized and utilized for the fabrication of the first efficient and durable all‐laser‐based DSCs. Under one sun A.M. 1.5 illumination the power conversion efficiency (PCE) is 5.3% (6.2% unmasked) and also greater than or equal to the PCE of the cell fabricated with the same materials set but processed using conventional procedures (5.2%). These results open up a new scenario for DSC technology, i.e., that of setting up an entire, laser‐based, three‐step DSC pilot production line with tangible advantages in terms of effective processing, automation, large area scalability, and embedded energy.  相似文献

Here an all‐purpose fibrous electrode based on MoS2 is demonstrated, which can be employed for versatile energy harvesting and storage applications. In this coaxial electrode, ultrathin MoS2 nanofilms are grown on TiO2 nanoparticles coated carbon fiber. The high electrochemical activity of MoS2 and good conductivity of carbon fiber synergistically lead to the remarkable performances of this novel composite electrode in fibrous dye‐sensitized solar cells (showing a record‐breaking conversion efficiency of 9.5%) and high‐capacity fibrous supercapacitors. Furthermore, a self‐powering energy fiber is fabricated by combining a fibrous dye‐sensitized solar cell and a fibrous supercapacitor into a single device, showing very fast charging capability (charging in 7 s under AM1.5G solar illumination) and an overall photochemical‐electricity energy conversion efficiency as high as 1.8%. In addition, this wire‐shaped electrode can also be used for fibrous Li‐ion batteries and electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions. These applications indicate that the MoS2‐based all‐purpose fibrous electrode has great potential for the construction of high‐performance flexible and wearable energy devices.  相似文献

Organic photovoltaics (OPV) represent a thin‐film PV technology that offers attractive prospects for low‐cost and aesthetically appealing (colored, flexible, uniform, semitransparent) solar cells that are printable on large surfaces. In bulk heterojunction (BHJ) OPV devices, organic electron donor and acceptor molecules are intimately mixed within the photoactive layer. Since 2005, the power conversion efficiency of said devices has increased substantially due to insights in the underlying physical processes, device optimization, and chemical engineering of a vast number of novel light‐harvesting organic materials, either small molecules or conjugated polymers. As Nature itself has developed porphyrin chromophores for solar light to energy conversion, it seems reasonable to pursue artificial systems based on the same types of molecules. Porphyrins and their analogues have already been successfully implemented in certain device types, notably in dye‐sensitized solar cells, but they have remained largely unexplored in BHJ organic solar cells. Very recent successes do show, however, the strong (latent) prospects of porphyrinoid semiconductors as light‐harvesting and charge transporting materials in such devices. Here, an overview on the state‐of‐the‐art of porphyrin‐based solution‐processed BHJ OPV is provided and insights are given into the pathways to follow and hurdles to overcome toward further improvements of porphyrinic materials and devices.  相似文献

The fluorescence quenching of pyranine by benzoquinone in acetonitrile medium was studied using steady‐state and time‐resolved fluorescence techniques. The quenching process was characterized by a Stern–Volmer plot, which displayed a linear aspect. From the linear plot, the bimolecular quenching rate constant was obtained. The obtained rate constants are within diffused controlled limits. The results show that benzoquinone can efficiently quench the fluorescence of pyranine with dynamic quenching rate constants in the order of 1010 M–1 s–1, suggesting that the pyranine can act as a good electron donor for photoinduced electron transfer in artificial photosynthesis and organic solar cells. In addition, the electron injection dynamics of a pyranine/titanium dioxide semiconductor film was also investigated and electron injection from the excited state pyranine into the conduction band of titanium dioxide is suggested. These preliminary results hold promise for the possibility of using pyranine in dye‐sensitized solar cells. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An attractive method to broaden the absorption bandwidth of polymer/fullerene‐based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells is to blend near infrared (near‐IR) sensitizers into the host system. Axial substitution of silicon phthalocyanines (Pcs) opens a possibility to modify the chemical, thermodynamic, electronic, and optical properties. Different axial substitutions are already designed to modify the thermodynamic properties of Pcs, but the impact of extending the π‐conjugation of the axial ligand on the opto‐electronic properties, as a function of the length of the alkyl spacer, has not been investigated yet. For this purpose, a novel series of pyrene‐substituted silicon phthalocyanines (SiPc‐Pys) with varying lengths of alkyl chain tethers are synthesized. The UV–vis and external quantum efficiency (EQE) results exhibit an efficient near IR sensitization up to 800 nm, clearly establishing the impact of the pyrene substitution. This yields an increase of over 20% in the short circuit current density (J SC) and over 50% in the power conversion efficiency (PCE) for the dye‐sensitized ternary device. Charge generation, transport properties, and microstructure are studied using different advanced technologies. Remarkably, these results provide guidance for the diverse and judicious selection of dye sensitizers to overcome the absorption limitation and achieve high efficiency ternary solar cells.  相似文献

Data‐driven materials discovery has become increasingly important in identifying materials that exhibit specific, desirable properties from a vast chemical search space. Synergic prediction and experimental validation are needed to accelerate scientific advances related to critical societal applications. A design‐to‐device study that uses high‐throughput screens with algorithmic encodings of structure–property relationships is reported to identify new materials with panchromatic optical absorption, whose photovoltaic device applications are then experimentally verified. The data‐mining methods source 9431 dye candidates, which are auto‐generated from the literature using a custom text‐mining tool. These candidates are sifted via a data‐mining workflow that is tailored to identify optimal combinations of organic dyes that have complementary optical absorption properties such that they can harvest all available sunlight when acting as co‐sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Six promising dye combinations are shortlisted for device testing, whereupon one dye combination yields co‐sensitized DSSCs with power conversion efficiencies comparable to those of the high‐performance, organometallic dye, N719. These results demonstrate how data‐driven molecular engineering can accelerate materials discovery for panchromatic photovoltaic or other applications.  相似文献
