One hundred and sixteen species of Rotifera are recorded from seven floodplain lakes of the Brahmaputra basin (northeastern India), the highest rotifer biodiversity recorded from these biotopes in the Indian subcontinent to date. The Australasian Brachionus dichotomus reductus and Lecane batillifer; the Oriental Keratella edmondsoni, Lecane blachei and L. acanthinula; the Palaeotropical Lecane braumi, L. lateralis, L. unguitata, Trichocerca tropis, Testudinella greeni and T. brevicaudata; the Pantropical Brachionus donneri and a rather widely distributed Horaella brehmi represent taxa of biogeographical interest. Three species are new additions to the Indian rotifer fauna and eight are new to the N.E. region. Lecanidae > Brachionidae = Colurellidae > Trichocercidae > Testudinellidae comprise the largest fraction (68.0%) of the examined fauna. Comments are made on the general nature and composition of the rotifer taxocoenosis as well as on acidophilic elements, ecology of various taxa and on the species richness of different lakes.  相似文献

A hitherto unknown rotifer species was found in ponds of Doñana National Park (Spain) during winter 1990, 1991 and 1992. It belongs to the family Lecanidae (Monogononta), is related to Lecane ungulata and superficially resembles Lecane leontina. Two specimens of this species hatched after two days incubation of pond sediments in the laboratory.  相似文献

The species composition of the rotifer fauna of Lake Kud-Thing, Nong Khai Province, northeast Thailand was investigated in a monthly sampling program from January to December 1998. A remarkably rich rotifer community consisting of 183 taxa was recorded, including 32 new records to the Thai fauna. The most diverse genera were Lecane (23.5%), followed by Trichocerca (16.9%) and Lepadella (11.5%). Lecane isanensis n. sp. is described and figured. Thirteen species (Aspelta circinator, Collotheca tenuilobata, Lecane nelsoni, Lepadella benjamini, Lepadella eurysterna, Sinantherina ariprepes, Testudinella cf. insinuata, Trichocerca abilioi, Trichocerca inermis, Trichocerca montana, Trichocerca orca, Trichocerca rosea and Trichocerca simonei) are new to the Oriental region. Notably, the record of Trichocerca orca is the first since its discovery in New Zealand in 1913. The rotifers can be classified into three groups based on duration of appearance; (1) common, perennial; (2) uncommon, perennial; and (3) uncommon, sporadic species. The high species richness of rotifers, particularly members of the genera Lecane and Trichocerca, but low diversity of Brachionus together suggest that the lake is probably not eutrophicated.  相似文献

Ninety-three freshwater habitats in the north-eastern part of Thailand were surveyed for rotifers during March–October 1993. Two hundred species were identified, 120 of which are new to Thailand. Brachionus africanuss Segers, B. lyratus Shephard and Trichocerca hollaerti De Smet are new to Asia. Brachionus niwati n.sp. is described and figured. Brachionus donneri Brehm, Keratella edmondsoni (Ahlstrom) and Lecane blachei Berzi, endemic to south and southeast Asia, were found also.Comments are presented on some insufficiently known taxa. Of special zoogeographic interest is the record of several species previously considered endemic to Australia. An attempt is made to characterise the Thai rotifer fauna in the light of recent developments in rotifer zoogeography.  相似文献

Lecane superaculeata. n. sp. is described from three localities in Thailand. It resembles the small, cosmopolitan L. aculeata (Jakubski, 1912) but is distinguished by its larger size and conspicuous anterolateral spines. Additional records of some recently described Thai Lecane species and comments on Oriental endemics are presented L. eswari Dhanapathi is newly recorded for the country.  相似文献

Laboratory-reared A. brightwelli were offered 16 different prey rotifer species from the genera Anuraeopsis, Brachionus, Epiphanes, Filinia, Hexarthra, Lecane, Lepadella, Pompholyx, Proalides and Trichocerca. Feeding responses (prey encounter, escape, capture, rejection and ingestion) were recorded. In general, the predator's ingestion time was positively correlated with prey length. B. falcatus and H. intermedia were never captured. Once captured, smaller rotifer species were ingested. Gut contents of field-collected A. brightwelli revealed increased occurrence of prey numbers when concentrated plankton samples were preserved after some delay.  相似文献

Identification of Acetylcholinesterase Receptors in Rotifera   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
We have identified acetylcholinesterase (AChE) receptors in six freshwater rotifers. Using β-bungarotoxin labelled with fluoresceinisothiocyanate (FITC), muscarinic and nicotinic receptors were found in Brachionus quadridentatus (females and males), Lecane luna, Lecane quadridentata, Plationus patulus, and Rotaria neptunia. Using α-bungarotoxin-FITC, nicotinic receptors were identified in B. quadridentatus, Lecane bulla, L. luna, L. quadridentata, P. patulus and R. neptunia. Concentrations as low as 1.5 nM of β-bungarotoxin, and 5 nM of α-bungarotoxin identified receptors in the digestive tract. Higher concentrations of both toxins identified additional receptors associated with the lorica. A preliminary analysis of fluorescence intensity in L. quadridentata showed that response to α-bungarotoxin increases with age from newborn to 48-h old, but not in older individuals, thus suggesting an increase in binding sites, and possibly in number of nicotinic receptors, during the first 48-h of life. Our study extends the number of rotifer species in which AChE receptors have been reported.  相似文献

One-hundred five rotifer species were identified from a sandy, plains river in Kansas, USA (the Ninnescah river). Of those rotifers identified, eighty occurred only in the interstitial sand, fifty-six in only the flow as plankton, and thirty-one from both habitats. Most species can be characterized as being more commonly found in littoral habitats, and not the interstitial or plankton. Lecane inermis (Bryce, 1892) had the highest density in the hygropsammon interstitial with an average 401 ind. 10 cm−3 at 1–3 cm depth in September 1993. New records for the US include Encentrum wiszniewski Wulfert (1939), E. longidens Donner (1943) ant E. (Parencentrum) longipes Wulfert (1960). A small form of Lecane levistyla Olofsson (1917) is further examined and discussed.  相似文献

The Okavango Delta has an annual flood cycle that spreads slowly from the northwestern`panhandle' into a widening delta to the southeast. Rotifers were sampled from areas where the flood was active, and from other areas not yet reached by the flood. In still waters, the samples were dominated by euplanktonic rotifers, particularly of the genera Brachionus, Keratella and Hexarthra, with about 20 species per 1000 individuals at a station. Where the water was moving the samples were dominated by periphytic rotifers, with over 100 species per 1000 individuals at a single station. The periphytic species were dominated by the genus Lecane, with over 45 species, followed by Lepadellawith 24 species, and Trichocercawith 23 species. Comparison of the Okavango with six other tropical localities reveals fairly consistent ratios of the numbers of species in the periphytic genera Lecane, Lepadellaand Trichocerca, indicating that there may be assembly rules for communities of tropical periphytic rotifers.  相似文献

Hydrolytic enzymes involved in rotifer digestive processes were investigated directly at the sites of enzyme action using the ELF (Enzyme Labelled Fluorescence) technique. After enzymatic hydrolysis of an artificial ELF substrate, the fluorescent product ELF alcohol (ELFA) marked the sites of enzyme action. The time development of ELFA labelling was studied at different incubation times. Phosphatases, β-N-acetylhexosaminidases and lipases were examined in Brachionus angularis, B. calyciflorus, Keratella cochlearis and Lecane closterocerca from fed-batch cultures. We detected activities of all studied enzymes mostly in the stomach and intestine of rotifers. L. closterocerca was the only species showing enzyme activity at the mastax. Lipase activity was observed in the stomach and intestine of all species and in the mastax of L. closterocerca. Phosphatases were frequently located at the corona of B. calyciflorus. In other cases, both phosphatases and β-N-acetylhexosaminidases were rarely detected at the corona, and on the lorica and epidermis of some species. Guest editors: S. S. S. Sarma, R. D. Gulati, R. L. Four novel yeast species are described, two from decaying mushrooms, viz. Candida cretensis and Candida vadensis, and two from rotten wood, viz. Blastobotrys robertii and Candida scorzettiae. Accession numbers for the CBS and ARS Culture Collections, and GenBank accession numbers for the D1/D2 domains of the large subunit of ribosomal DNA are: B. robertii CBS 10106T, NRRL Y-27775, DQ839395; C. cretensis CBS 9453T, NRRL Y-27777, AY4998861 and DQ839393; C. scorzettiae CBS 10107T, NRRL Y-27665, DQ839394; C. vadensis CBS 9454T, NRRL Y-27778, AY498863 and DQ839396. The GenBank accession number for the ITS region of C. cretensis is AY498862 and that for C. vadensis is AY498864. C. cretensis was the only species of the four that displayed fermentative activity. All four type strains grew on n-hexadecane. C. scorzettiae is the only one of the new species that assimilates some phenolic compounds, viz. 3-hydroxy derivatives of benzoic, phenylacetic and cinnamic acids, but not the corresponding 4-hydroxy acids. This is indicative of an operative gentisate pathway.  相似文献

Samples were taken from a Malaysian estuary along a salinity gradient from full strength sea water down to a conductivity of 27 µS cm–1. In a region where the conductivity fluctuated between 6500 and 14000 µS only empty loricas of Keratella cochlearis and Lecane bulla were found. Where the salinity reached a maximum of 3800 µS Lecane bulla was the dominant rotifer, and 17 other species were found. Where the conductivity remained below 1000 µS at all stages of the tidal cycle there were more species of rotifers, up to 33 at one station. The rotifer fauna of the estuary was compared to the assemblage found in two local ponds. Of the 63 species found in the estuary only 29 were also found in the ponds. Compared to the total known rotifer fauna of Malaysia the estuary has a higher proportion of Lecane species (40%), and the genera Brachionus and Trichocerca are under-represented.Species associated with inland saline waters, such as Brachionus plicatilis, B. dimidiatus and Hexarthra jenkinae were not found in the estuary.  相似文献

Multivariate analysis of vegetative and reproductive characters was used to examine morphological relatedness amongAntennaria alborosea A. E. Porsild,A. corymbosa E. Nels.,A. marginata Greene,A. microphylla Rydb.,A. parvifolia Nutt.,A. rosea Greene, andA. umbrinella Rydb. Both pistillate and staminate plants were examined. Some of the characters examined were variable in one species, but stable in another (i.e., presence or absence of papillae on the achenes). Our analyses indicate that the seven species are morphologically distinct. It is hypothesized that theA. rosea agamic complex arose through hybridization amongA. corymbosa, A. microphylla, A. umbrinella, and possiblyA. dioica (L.)Gaertn. However, hybridization between the three former species and others, as well as their subsequent morphological responses to different environmental conditions causes confusion in recognizing the taxa.Antennaria angustifolia Rydb.,A. arida E. Nels.,A. confinis Greene,A. scariosa E. Nels.,A. foliacea humilis Rydb.,A. concinna E. Nels., andA. viscidula E. Nels. are considered to represent F 1 hybrids.  相似文献

Stylosanthes sp. aff.S. scabra is an undescribed taxon showing affinities with the allotetraploid speciesS. scabra, but distinct in a number of attibutes. Several collections show potential as forage for clay soils in northern Australia. Twelve accessions have been analysed using STS (sequence-tagged-sites) as genetic markers, and they all displayed STS phenotypes of typical diploid species. Taking into account their morphological similarities, the STS analysis provides strong evidence thatStylosanthes sp. aff.S. scabra might be a diploid progenitor of the allotetraploidS. scabra. This speculation was supported by cytological examinations. Somatic chromosome numbers of two of these accessions were counted and both were found to be diploid (2n = 20). The level of polymorphism among the 12Stylosanthes sp. aff.S. scabra accessions, estimated using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) as markers, was 7.8%, and the dissimilarity value betweenStylosanthes sp. aff.S. scabra andS. viscosa (the other putative progenitor ofS. scabra) was 89%.  相似文献
