In this work, a CL-20/DNB cocrystal explosive model was established and six different kinds of fluoropolymers, i.e., PVDF, PCTFE, F2311, F2312, F2313 and F2314 were added into the (1 0 0), (0 1 0), (0 0 1) crystal orientations to obtain the corresponding polymer bonded explosives (PBXs). The influence of fluoropolymers on PBX properties (energetic property, stability and mechanical properties) was investigated and evaluated using molecular dynamics (MD) methods. The results reveal a decrease in engineering moduli, an increase in Cauchy pressure (i.e., rigidity and stiffness is lessened), and an increase in plastic properties and ductility, thus indicating that the fluoropolymers have a beneficial influence on the mechanical properties of PBXs. Of all the PBXs models tested, the mechanical properties of CL-20/DNB/F2311 were the best. Binding energies show that CL-20/DNB/F2311 has the highest intermolecular interaction energy and best compatibility and stability. Therefore, F2311 is the most suitable fluoropolymer for PBXs. The mechanical properties and binding energies of the three crystal orientations vary in the order (0 1 0)?>?(0 0 1)?>?(1 0 0), i.e., the mechanical properties of the (0 1 0) crystal orientation are best, and this is the most stable crystal orientation. Detonation performance results show that the density and detonation parameters of PBXs are lower than those of the pure CL-20 and CL-20/DNB cocrystal explosive. The power and energetic performance of PBXs are thus weakened; however, these PBXs still have excellent detonation performance and are very promising. The results and conclusions provide some helpful guidance and novel instructions for the design and manufacture of PBXs.  相似文献

In order to elucidate why the inclusion of a nonpolar desensitizing agent in polymer-bonded explosives (PBXs) affects their sensitivity and safety, the intermolecular interactions between nitroguanidine (NQ: a high-energy-density compound used as a propellant and in explosive charges) and F2C=CF2 were investigated theoretically at the B3LYP/6–311++G(2df,2p) and M06-2X/6–311++G(2df,2p) levels of theory, focusing especially on the influence of intermolecular interactions on the strength of the trigger bond in NQ. The binding energies and mechanical properties of various β-NQ/polytetrafluoroethylene PBXs were also studied via molecular dynamics simulation. The results indicated that the weak intermolecular interactions between NQ and F2C=CF2 have almost no effect on the strength of the trigger bond or the energy barrier to the intramolecular hydrogen-transfer isomerization of NQ, as also confirmed by an AIM (atoms in molecules) analysis. However, the mechanical properties of the β-NQ/polytetrafluoroethylene PBXs were found to be significantly different from those of pure β-NQ: the PBXs showed reduced rigidity and brittleness, greater elasticity and plasticity, and—in particular—better ductility. Thus, β-NQ-based PBXs with polytetrafluoroethylene are predicted to be less sensitive to external mechanical stimuli, leading to reduced explosive sensitivity and increased safety.
Only mechanical properties influence the safety of nitroguanidine-based PBXs

Growth of kelee shad, Hilsa kelee, in the coastal waters of Pakistan was estimated from the lengthfrequency samples. The von Bertalanffy growth equation was L t = 23.10 (1 ? exp (?0.94(t + 0.18))). Estimated parameters of total mortality (Z), natural mortality (M) and fishing mortality (F) were 2.08 year?1, 1.78 year?1, and 0.30 year?1 respectively. The length-at-first capture was Lc = 10.88 cm. Biomass per recruitment (B/R) and yield per recruitment (Y′/R) were 0.87 and 0.031 respectively. The annual exploitation rate was U = 0.12. The exploitation ratio for maximum yield per recruit E max = 0.73 and fishing mortality for maximum yield per recruit F max = 1.52; biological reference point F opt = 0.89 year?1 and F limit = 1.18 year?1. Present estimations showed that the natural mortality was higher than fishing mortality in Hilsa kelee, indicating that the state of the stock is sustainable and the fishery of kelee shad should not be increased beyond current levels in the coastal waters of Pakistan.  相似文献

Stalk bending strength (SBS) is a reliable indicator for evaluating stalk lodging resistance of maize plants. Based on biomechanical considerations, the maximum load exerted to breaking (F max), the breaking moment (M max) and critical stress (σ max) are three important parameters to characterize SBS. We investigated the genetic architecture of SBS by phenotyping F max, M max and σ max of the fourth internode of maize plants in a population of 216 recombinant inbred lines derived from the cross B73 × Ce03005 evaluated in four environments. Heritability of F max, M max and σ max was 0.81, 0.79 and 0.75, respectively. F max and σ max were positively correlated with several other stalk characters. By using a linkage map with 129 SSR markers, we detected two, three and two quantitative trait loci (QTL) explaining 22.4, 26.1 and 17.2 % of the genotypic variance for F max, M max and σ max, respectively. The QTL for F max, M max and σ max located in adjacent bins 5.02 and 5.03 as well as in bin 10.04 for F max were detected with high frequencies in cross-validation. As our QTL mapping results suggested a complex polygenic inheritance for SBS-related traits, we also evaluated the prediction accuracy of two genomic prediction methods (GBLUP and BayesB). In general, we found that both explained considerably higher proportions of the genetic variance than the values obtained in QTL mapping with cross-validation. Nevertheless, the identified QTL regions could be used as a starting point for fine mapping and gene cloning.  相似文献

Porphyra spp. (currently Porphyra and Pyropia) are major sources of seafood globally. In this study, we investigated the effects of ammonium concentration, water temperature, and thallus stocking density on N-ammonium uptake rate (NUR), tissue nutrients content, N–NH4 + filtration efficiency (NUE: nitrogen uptake efficiency %) of Pyropia yezoensis at a laboratory scale and in a mesoscale to evaluate the potential of this species as a biofilter. Additionally, photosynthetic activity was examined using Diving-PAM fluorometer to evaluate the health status. At a laboratory scale, the NUR and tissue nitrogen (N) content of P. yezoensis increased with increasing NH4 + concentrations in the medium. The NUR at thallus stocking densities of 5 and 10 g fresh weight (FW) L–1 were significantly higher than that at 20 g FW L–1. Effective quantum yield (? F/F m ) and tissue N content was significantly higher at all stocking densities than that at the beginning of experiment. The NUE was over 90 % at 10 and 17 °C, while all thalli cultured at 25 °C died after 5 days. In a mesoscale, the NUE at a thallus stocking density of 10.0 g FW L–1 was significantly higher than that at a stocking density of 5.0 g FW L–1. No differences in the NUE occurred between 10 °C and 17 °C. Photosynthetic activity (?F/Fm and rETRmax) of P. yezoensis at optimal culture condition (10–12 °C and 10 g FW L–1) increased over time through the experiment. This indicates that thallus was healthy during culture and chlorophyll a fluorescence can be as a monitoring tool for evaluating the physiological status of seaweeds in an integrated multi-trophic aquaculture.  相似文献

First estimates of sex allocation patterns and body size‐at‐sexual maturity and at protogynous sex change are presented for the five major (including one endemic) species of parrotfishes of Hawaii. Median body size at initial maturation as a female (LM50) and at protogynous sex change from adult female to adult male (LΔ50) varied greatly among the five species. Estimates of LM50 were about 14, 17, 24, 34 and 35 cm fork length (LF) in palenose Scarus psittacus, Pacific bullethead Chlorurus spilurus, stareye Calotomus carolinus, spectacled Chlorurus perspicillatus and redlip parrotfish Scarus rubroviolaceus. Values of LΔ50 were c. 23, 27, 37, 46 and 47 cm LF in the respective species. Length at female maturation was proportional to maximum body size (Lmax) of the respective species, ranging from 50 to 72% and averaging 62% of Lmax across species. LΔ50 was also proportional to Lmax, ranging from 82 to 97% and averaging 92%. Males of both pairs of Scarus and Chlorurus spp. reported here are diandric. Only one of the five major species (C. carolinus) is functionally monandric, with either all or nearly all males secondarily derived from adult females. The broadly differing absolute body sizes at sexual maturation and at sex change among the five species have important implications for improving regulatory size limits for parrotfishes in the State of Hawaii, where parrotfish species have historically been managed based on a single minimum size limit of 30·5 cm LF. This study provides a model demonstration of why catch data for parrotfishes, and other size‐structured reef‐fish populations, should be recorded either by species or by functional size‐groups of species that allow setting more meaningful minimum size limits.  相似文献

The relationship between body dry weight (W) and shell length (L) of blue mussels, Mytilus edulis, can be expressed by the condition index (CI = W/L 3) which varies from population to population and during the year. Here, we examine the influence of CI on the relationships between maximum filtration rate (F, l h?1), W (g), and L (mm) as described by the equations: F W  = aW b and F L  = cL d , respectively. This is done by using available and new experimental laboratory data on M. edulis obtained by members of the same research team using different methods and controlled diets of cultivated algal cells. For all data, it was found that F W  = 6.773W 0.678 and F L  = 0.00135L 2.088 which are very similar to equations for mussels with ‘medium condition’ (CI = 4–6 mg cm?3): F W  = 6.567W 0.681 and F L  = 0.00150L 2.051, with b- and d-values within a few percent of the theoretically expected of 2/3 and 2, respectively. Further, based on the present data, we propose a correction factor expressed by the empirical relation F W /F L  = 0.3562CI2/3 which implies that F W tends to underestimate the actual filtration rate (F L ) when CI < 4.70 and to overestimate the filtration rate when CI > 4.70.  相似文献

A comparison of chlorophyll-a fluorescence in brown algae (Macrocystis integrifolia, Fucus vesiculosis), green algae (Scenedesmus obliquus, Ulva sp.) and higher plants (bean, corn) show differences in the relative fluorescence intensities and induction time courses which characterize each type of plant. These differences are not reflected in either the maximum fluorescence emission in the presence of 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (Fmax) or the nonvariable fluorescence (Fo). Constancy of Fo and Fmax suggests functional similarities of photosystem II and associated antennae pigments in the various classes of plants. The time course differences are observed only in the absence of 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea and appear, therefore, to be electron transport dependent. During induction, the peak in fluorescence (Fp) is much lower in all of the algae studied than in the higher plants. Exogenous O2 strongly quenches Fp in all plants studied and our data indicate that the low Fp in the algae can be partially accounted for by endogenous O2 quenching.  相似文献

Hill-type parameter values measured in experiments on single muscles show large across-muscle variation. Using individual-muscle specific values instead of the more standard approach of across-muscle means might therefore improve muscle model performance. We show here that using mean values increased simulation normalized RMS error in all tested motor nerve stimulation paradigms in both isotonic and isometric conditions, doubling mean simulation error from 9 to 18 (different at p?<?0.0001). These data suggest muscle-specific measurement of Hill-type model parameters is necessary in work requiring highly accurate muscle model construction. Maximum muscle force (F max) showed large (fourfold) across-muscle variation. To test the role of F max in model performance we compared the errors of models using mean F max and muscle-specific values for the other model parameters, and models using muscle-specific F max values and mean values for the other model parameters. Using muscle-specific F max values did not improve model performance compared to using mean values for all parameters, but using muscle-specific values for all parameters but F max did (to an error of 14, different from muscle-specific, mean all parameters, and mean only F max errors at p?≤ 0.014). Significantly improving model performance thus required muscle-specific values for at least a subset of parameters other than F max, and best performance required muscle-specific values for this subset and F max. Detailed consideration of model performance suggested that remaining model error likely stemmed from activation of both fast and slow motor neurons in our experiments and inadequate specification of model activation dynamics.  相似文献

Both conventional and genetic engineering techniques can significantly improve the performance of animal cell cultures for the large-scale production of pharmaceutical products. In this paper, the effect of such techniques on cell yield and antibody production of two NS0 cell lines is presented. On the one hand, the effect of fed-batch cultivation using dialysis is compared to cultivation without dialysis. Maximum cell density could be increased by a factor of ~5–7 by dialysis fed-batch cultivation. On the other hand, suppression of apoptosis in the NS0 cell line 6A1 bcl-2 resulted in a prolonged growth phase and a higher viability and maximum cell density in fed-batch cultivation in contrast to the control cell line 6A1 (100)3. These factors resulted in more product formation (by a factor ~2). Finally, the adaptive model-based OLFO controller, developed as a general tool for cell culture fed-batch processes, was able to control the fed-batch and dialysis fed-batch cultivations of both cell lines.Abbreviations A membrane area (dm2) - c Glc,F glucose concentration in nutrient feed (mmol L–1) - c Glc,FD glucose concentration in dialysis feed (mmol L–1) - c Glc,i glucose concentration in inner reactor chamber (mmol L–1) - c Glc,o glucose concentration in outer reactor chamber (dialysis chamber) (mmol L–1) - c Lac,FD lactate concentration in dialysis feed (mmol L–1) - c Lac,i lactate concentration in inner reactor chamber (mmol L–1) - c Lac,o lactate concentration in outer reactor chamber (dialysis chamber) (mmol L–1) - c LS,FD limiting substrate concentration in dialysis feed (mmol L–1) - c LS,i limiting substrate concentration in inner reactor chamber (mmol L–1) - c LS,o limiting substrate concentration in outer reactor chamber (dialysis chamber) (mmol L–1) - c Mab monoclonal antibody concentration (mg L–1) - F D feed rate of dialysis feed (L h–1) - F Glc feed rate of nutrient concentrate feed (L h–1) - K d maximum death constant (h–1) - k d,LS death rate constant for limiting substrate (mmol L–1) - k Glc monod kinetic constant for glucose uptake (mmol L–1) - k Lac monod kinetic constant for lactate uptake (mmol L–1) - k LS monod kinetic constant for limiting substrate uptake (mmol L–1) - K Lys cell lysis constant (h–1) - K S,Glc monod kinetic constant for glucose (mmol L–1) - K S,LS monod kinetic constant for limiting substrate (mmol L–1) - µ cell-specific growth rate (h–1) - µ d cell-specific death rate (h–1) - µ d,min minimum cell-specific death rate (h–1) - µ max maximum cell-specific growth rate (h–1) - P Glc membrane permeation coefficient for glucose (dm h–1) - P Lac membrane permeation coefficient for lactate (dm h–1) - P LS membrane permeation coefficient for limiting substrate (dm h–1) - q Glc cell-specific glucose uptake rate (mmol cell–1 h–1) - q Glc,max maximum cell-specific glucose uptake rate (mmol cell–1 h–1) - q Lac cell-specific lactate uptake/production rate (mmol cell–1 h–1) - q Lac,max maximum cell-specific lactate uptake rate (mmol cell–1 h–1) - q LS cell-specific limiting substrate uptake rate (mmol cell–1 h–1) - q LS,max maximum cell-specific limiting substrate uptake rate (mmol cell –1 h–1) - q Mab cell-specific antibody production rate (mg cell–1 h–1) - q MAb,max maximum cell-specific antibody production rate (mg cell–1 h–1) - t time (h) - V i volume of inner reactor chamber (culture chamber) (L) - V o volume of outer reactor chamber (dialysis chamber) (L) - X t total cell concentration (cells L–1) - X viable cell concentration (cells L–1) - Y Lac/Glc kinetic production constant (stoichiometric ratio of lactate production and glucose uptake) (–)  相似文献

A study has been made on the State 1-State 2 transitions exhibited by the unicellular green algae Chlorella pyrenoidosa. Chlorophyll fluorescence induction curves from algae adapted to State 1 or State 2 have been analyzed and a comparison made with similar curves produced by decreasing the intensity of light going to the photosystem II reaction centers. In both cases, quenching of the maximum fluorescence yield (Fm) and the initial fluorescence yield (Fo) were observed so that the Fv/Fm ratio and the area above the induction curve (Amax) remained constant. The State 1-State 2 transition also produced changes in the βmax component indicative of some alteration within photosystem II organization. The implications of these experiments on the in vivo mechanism for energy redistribution between the two photosystems are discussed in terms of changes in absorption cross-section rather than being due to spillover from photosystem II to photosystem I. These changes may reflect the phosphorylation of the light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b protein complex and its subsequent migration away from the photosystem II core leading to its closer association with photosystem I.  相似文献

The force-length relationship is one of the most important mechanical characteristics of skeletal muscle in humans and animals. For a physiologically realistic joint range of motion and therefore range of muscle fibre lengths only part of the force-length curve may be used in vivo, i.e. only a section of the force-length curve is expressed. A generalised model of a mono-articular muscle-tendon complex was used to examine the effect of various muscle architecture parameters on the expressed section of the force-length relationship for a 90° joint range of motion. The parameters investigated were: the ratio of tendon resting length to muscle fibre optimum length (LTR:LF·OPT) (varied from 0.5 to 11.5), the ratio of muscle fibre optimum length to average moment arm (LF·OPT:r) (varied from 0.5 to 5), the normalised tendon strain at maximum isometric force (c) (varied from 0 to 0.08), the muscle fibre pennation angle (θ) (varied from 0° to 45°) and the joint angle at which the optimum muscle fibre length occurred (φ). The range of values chosen for each parameter was based on values reported in the literature for five human mono-articular muscles with different functional roles. The ratios LTR:LF·OPT and LF·OPT:r were important in determining the amount of variability in the expressed section of the force-length relationship. The modelled muscle operated over only one limb at intermediate values of these two ratios (LTR:LF·OPT=5; LF·OPT:r=3), whether this was the ascending or descending limb was determined by the precise values of the other parameters. It was concluded that inter-individual variability in the expressed section of the force-length relationship is possible, particularly for muscles with intermediate values of LTR:LF·OPT and LF·OPT:r such as the brachialis and vastus lateralis. Understanding the potential for inter-individual variability in the expressed section is important when using muscle models to simulate movement.  相似文献

The effects of two anion/Cl? channel inhibitors, Zn2+ and niflumic acid (NA), on seedling photosynthetic and fluorescent parameters of two Glycine soja populations (salt-tolerant BB52; salt-sensitive N23227) and Glycine max cultivar (salt-tolerant Lee68) were studied and compared under salt stress. Treatments with Zn2+ and NA only (10, 20 μmol L?1) were also imposed for comparisons. Results showed that, there were non-toxic and non-nutritional effects of Zn2+ and NA treatments alone on seed germination and seedling growth of soybeans. Under 150 mmol L?1 NaCl for 6 d, leaf chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (Tr), and the maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (PS II) (Fv/Fm) except the stomatal limitation (Ls) significantly decreased in three kinds of soybean seedlings when compared with their control plants. The NaCl stress plus additional 20 μmol L?1 Zn showed an obvious enhancement of leaf chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, Pn, Gs, Ci and Tr, especially for the G. max cultivar Lee68, but the supplementation of 20 μmol L?1 NA showed the reverse effects.  相似文献

The present study investigated force–velocity and force–power relationships of bilateral and unilateral knee-hip extension movement in young and elderly women. Twelve healthy young (age, 19–31 yr) and 12 healthy elderly (age, 60–82 yr) women performed bilateral and unilateral knee-hip extension movements on the dynamometer against loads controlled by the servo system. Under the isotonic force condition, force–velocity relationships were measured. The maximum isometric force (Fmax), unloaded velocity (Vmax) and power output (Pmax) of the movements were calculated from extrapolating force–velocity and force–power relationships. Fmax and Pmax of bilateral and unilateral knee-hip extension movements were 20–30% lower in elderly than in young women. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in Vmax between young and elderly women and between bilateral and unilateral movements. Bilateral deficit was larger as the generation of force was larger in both young and elderly women. Also, bilateral deficit of Fmax and Pmax were not different between young and elderly women. The results were that lower maximum power output of bilateral and unilateral leg multi-joint movements in elderly women did not depend on the intrinsic shortening velocity of muscle action, but largely on reduction in force generating capacity. This suggests the importance of preventing a loss of force generating capacity of muscles during leg multi-joint movements in elderly women.  相似文献

Rod and cone visual pigments of 11 marine carnivores were evaluated. Rod, middle/long-wavelength sensitive (M/L) cone, and short-wavelength sensitive (S) cone opsin (if present) sequences were obtained from retinal mRNA. Spectral sensitivity was inferred through evaluation of known spectral tuning residues. The rod pigments of all but one of the pinnipeds were similar to those of the sea otter, polar bear, and most other terrestrial carnivores with spectral peak sensitivities (λmax) of 499 or 501 nm. Similarly, the M/L cone pigments of the pinnipeds, polar bear, and otter had inferred λmax of 545 to 560 nm. Only the rod opsin sequence of the elephant seal had sensitivity characteristic of adaptation for vision in the marine environment, with an inferred λmax of 487 nm. No evidence of S cones was found for any of the pinnipeds. The polar bear and otter had S cones with inferred λmax of ∼440 nm. Flicker-photometric ERG was additionally used to examine the in situ sensitivities of three species of pinniped. Despite the use of conditions previously shown to evoke cone responses in other mammals, no cone responses could be elicited from any of these pinnipeds. Rod photoreceptor responses for all three species were as predicted by the genetic data.Electronic Supplementary Material Supplementary material is available for this article at and is accessible for authorized users.  相似文献

The analysis of equilibrium binding isotherms obtained by methods such as the nitrocellulose filter binding assay, which measure the fraction. θ, of DNA to which at least one protein molecule is bound, as a function of the free protein concentration (LF) require a different type of theoretical framework from that required for analysis of conventional equilibrium binding data, in which the number of moles of protein bound per mole of DNA, θc is measured as a function of LF. The theoretical framework required to analyse equilibrium binding data generated by measuring θ(LF) is developed for co-operative and non-co-operative binding of a protein to a large number of non-specific sites and to a specific sites(s) in the presence of a large number of non-specific sites on a DNA molecule. The theory is simple to apply, equations for θ(LF) being easy to derive and evaluate, and is suitable for least-squares analysis. Two examples of the application of the theory to the analysis of experimental data are provided for the specific and non-specific binding of the EcoRI restriction endonuclease to bacteriophage λ DNA, and for the specific and non-specific binding of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase from Lactobacillus casei to pBR322 and pWDLcB1 DNA, the latter differing from the former only in a 2.9 × 103 base-pair insert containing the L. casei dihydrofolate reductase structural gene. The theoretical and experimental advantages and disadvantages of measuring θ(LF) rather than θc(LF) are discussed.  相似文献

From the relations between critical illumination in a flash (Im) and the flash frequency (F) for response of the sunfish to visual flicker when the proportion of light time to dark time (tL/tD) in a flicker cycle is varied at one temperature (21.5°) the following results are obtained: At values of tL/tD between 1/9 and 9/1 the F - log Im curves are progressively shifted toward higher intensities and lower Fmax.. Fmax. is a declining rectilinear function of the percentage of the flash cycle time occupied by light. The rod and the cone portions of the flicker curve are not shifted to the same extent. The cone portion and the rod region of the curve are each well described by a probability integral. In terms of F as 100 F/Fmax. the standard deviation of the underlying frequency distribution of elemental contributions, summed to produce the effect proportional to F, is independent of tL/tD. The magnitude of log Im at the inflection point (r''), however, increases rectilinearly with the percentage light time in the cycle. The proportionality between Im and σII1 is independent of tL/tD. These effects are interpreted as consequences of the fact that the number of elements of excitation available for discrimination of flicker is increased by increasing the dark interval in a flash cycle. Decreasing the dark interval has therefore the same kind of effect as reducing the visual area, and not that produced by decreasing the temperature.  相似文献

In this review we collected data on the length at maturity (Lm) and maximum reported total length (Lmax) of 565 Mediterranean marine fish stocks, representing 150 species, 68 families, 24 orders and 3 classes. Overall, Lm ranged from 2 cm, for the males of the toothcarp Aphanius fasciatus, to 350 cm, for the females of the bluntnose sixgill shark Hexanchus griseus. Lm was positively linearly related with Lmax for Actinopterygii (logLm = ?0.123 + 0.92 × logLmax; r 2 = 0.87, n = 471, P < 0.001) and Elasmobranchii (logLm = ?0.008 + 0.922 × logLmax; r 2 = 0.90, n = 92, P < 0.001) with the two slopes being significantly different (ANCOVA: F = 2,904, P < 0.001). The reproductive load (Lm/Lmax) ranged between 0.23 (sand steenbras Lithognathus mormyrus) and 0.94 (angular roughshark Oxynotus centrina and thornback ray Raja clavata). The mean Lm/Lmax was significantly (ANOVA, F = 34.14, P < 0.001) lower for Actinopterygii (mean = 0.59, SD = 0.122, n = 471) compared to Elasmobranchii (mean = 0.70, SD = 0.132, n = 92) and Holocephali (mean = 0.77, SD = 0.077, n = 2). The Lm/Lmax was significantly (ANOVA, F = 43.80, P < 0.001) higher for species providing some form of parental care, i.e. guarders, bearers, nesters (mean Lm/Lmax ± SD = 0.68 ± 0.141, n = 111) compared to non-guarders (mean Lm/Lmax ± SD = 0.59 ± 0.123, n = 454). The mean Lm/Lmax displayed a remarkable constancy with longitude (northern and southern Mediterranean coastline: ANOVA, F = 0.01, P = 0.93), latitude (western, central and eastern regions: ANOVA, F = 1.25, P = 0.29) and habitat (ANOVA, F = 0.85, P = 0.51).  相似文献

Needles from phosphorus deficient seedlings of Pinus radiata D. Don grown for 8 weeks at either 330 or 660 microliters CO2 per liter displayed chlorophyll a fluorescence induction kinetics characteristic of structural changes within the thylakoid chloroplast membrane, i.e. constant yield fluorescence (FO) was increased and induced fluorescence ([FP-FI]/FO) was reduced. The effect was greatest in the undroughted plants grown at 660 μl CO2 L−1. By week 22 at 330 μl CO2 L−1 acclimation to P deficiency had occurred as shown by the similarity in the fluorescence characteristics and maximum rates of photosynthesis of the needles from the two P treatments. However, acclimation did not occur in the plants grown at 660 μl CO2 L−1. The light saturated rate of photosynthesis of needles with adequate P was higher at 660 μl CO2 L−1 than at 330 μl CO2 L−1, whereas photosynthesis of P deficient plants showed no increase when grown at the higher CO2 concentration. The average growth increase due to CO2 enrichment was 14% in P deficient plants and 32% when P was adequate. In drought stressed plants grown at 330 μl CO2 L−1, there was a reduction in the maximal rate of quenching of fluorescence (RQ) after the major peak. Constant yield fluorescence was unaffected but induced fluorescence was lower. These results indicate that electron flow subsequent to photosystem II was affected by drought stress. At 660 μl CO2 L−1 this response was eliminated showing that CO2 enrichment improved the ability of the seedlings to acclimate to drought stress. The average growth increase with CO2 enrichment was 37% in drought stressed plants and 19% in unstressed plants.  相似文献

Comparative energetics of chicken latissimus dorsi muscles, tonic anterior (ALD) and phasic posterior (PLD), were investigated by measuring initial heat production. Heat components were analyzed in terms of the equation: E = A + W + αF(L) + f(P, t) As the muscles were stretched by increments, heat produced in isometric twitches and tetani decreased in a linear fashion. Two processes are involved: one tension independent, the activation heat, or A; and the other tension dependent, Wi + αF(L) + f(P, t). In twitches, A, per unit tension, is equivalent in the PLD and ALD. Tension-dependent heat, per unit tension, is greater in the PLD due to Wi; but tension-time-related heat, f(P, t), per unit tension, is similar in both muscles. In tetanic contractions, differences in A and f(P, t), per unit tension, are attributed to the greater Vmax in the PLD. The differences in the energetics of isometric contractions in the PLD and ALD, therefore, can be explained by inherent differences in tension development, compliance, and myosin and reticular ATPase activities. Data from isotonic twitches were quantified by means of the equivalent tension technique. Both muscles exhibited an extra heat associated with shortening, αF(L). In the PLD, the ratio αF/Pot is greater; it is load independent and ½ the value of a/Po in both muscles. Enthalpy efficiency, We + Wi/E, is comparable in both muscles. A Fenn effect is observed only when isotonic energy liberation is compared to a decreasing isometric energy expenditure base line.  相似文献
